This is so crazy. I just refuse to give up on kids with potential.

Is it indeed better to be talked about & controversial? Or to be, like Anoop, rather lonely in a 5-comment thread? Fascinating stuff. It’ll be interesting to see how it all shakes down in the end.

I don’t know what Alex is getting out of being talked about or controversial to a few people on a Idol blog. Most of the world doesn’t know who he is. A lot more people know who Anoop is. He has way more recognition, having been in the Top 10. Right now I’d say Anoop would be more likely to draw a crowd to a concert than Alex.

Not really. Just people expressing different opinions. YOu can cheer them on if you wish! :)

I haven’t seen that show… so I have NO idea what this dude is like. I’ll say this and then shut up… I have a huge music collection and I’m sure many of the musicians in it are douchebags. I am not sure why if you’re on television you have to be a golden boy. Most artists are self-centered pricks, and that’s why they succeed. You gotta have balls to get on stage and act like a bad ass. That was sorely missing from Idol this year.

But I’m not sure why he’s universally hated, since I haven’t seen the show. I suppose the hair is enough for me…

  • Lu

Maybe it’s because of the overinflated ego PJ. I don’t know. Alex talked some smack about the very people he said he was friends with on idol… pretty douchey if you ask me… just obnoxious arrogance. Why he’s arrogant, I have no idea. I just don’t see the talent that everyone else does I guess.

Lu, I haven’t watched one episode of the show and I’m not really concerned with defending this mullet guy. It’s a reality show and probably edited at the very least. I’d guess it’s scripted too.

I don’t like it when people talk smack about their fellow Idols, either. Unless they deserve it. Ahem. Not sure what he said.

  • Lu

LOL @ mullet guy, PJ. MJ had it posted here a while back. If I remember correctly, he dissed Casey pretty hard.

Well, Lu. All’s fair in love and reality shows. Let’s see who wins between Casey and Mullet guy. I’m guessing Casey is a better musician.

Just watched the vid. This dude is trying too hard. He sounds like he’s trying to be a cross between John Mayer and Jack Johnson. I wasn’t impressed.

To those who call him a douche for the peeing in shampoo prank. Obviously you don’t know the other IICD roomates played mean pranks on Alex 3 times before he did anything back. They poured water on him while asleep and woke him that he peed on himself, and all laughed at him. Then Amanda and chef Caitlin played another prank and made Alex eat a cake that Amanda already chewed in her mouth and spit out, and she had dental infection at the time. Alex didnt know she had it her mouth before, and when he realized it he took it in stride, while they all laughed at him. Don’t you think that’s disgusting and mean thing to do to him? And he’s the douche? Then the next day Caitlin and Gig played another prank and poured mixture of bad food and cocoa mixture on Alex while he slept by the pool. He didn’t say anything, but he was clearly upset and sad and just went inside. That’s when he finally had enough of their mean pranks – and while washing off the junk he did his shampoo prank to go with the pee one they first did to him. I know most of you only read about shampoo prank in interviews, but the others pushed him to retaliate after their mean pranks – he didnt start it – he took it in strides while they had a good laugh at his expense until he couldn’t take it anymore. I don’t think they should be playing pranks, and I don’t think Alex should be attacked for it without considering what lead to it — blame the others too. Oh and he did fine singing at dodger stadium.

To those who call him a douche for the peeing in shampoo prank.

My feelings about him have nothing to do with this. Rather, it was more the somethingpithcy clip that MJ had poasted a while back where I felt he insulted some of his idol castmates. That is how I perceived it and I think some others here felt the same. It also appeared that he was overly impressed with himself. It was a trmendous turnoff for me. I guess time will tell. If he’s as talented as he appears to think he is, he should do well. As far as this SSB clip is concerned, I’m most unimpressed.

That’s how I perceived it, too. His saying that if it was a singing competition he’d still be there because he’s a better singer (that’s my paraphrase, not a direct quote btw) than most of the other guys left really turned me off. Then he dissed Tim for having fangirls. He has a pretty short memory, because he had plenty of fangirls too. They even created a petition to get him back on the show. Add that to the rude and obnoxious things he said about Crystal and Casey (who are both incredibly talented) and I was done.

If he’s as talented as he appears to think he is, he should do well.

Just listened to it and I thought Alex did a nice job.

I do think he was one of the more talented people on Season 9. I don’t watch all of his intereviews, etc, because I’m just not that interested in his personal life, but I do really love his voice and I’m hoping he records some songs that I like.

I never understand why people get bent out of shape when one idol says something negative about another idol. Yes, it’s probably more tactful not to say it, but to me, it’s not a big deal.

Alex did have a hard upbrining and I think this whole experience has to be overwhelming for him. I grew up in not the best environment and I know when I was 19, I was a mess, even though I worked fulltime and supported myself. I personally am rooting for mullet guy. We can talk about AI and plants, etc. Season 8 was full of contestants with experience, but I didn’t feel as if the judges laid it on so thick with the “oh, we just plucked him fron obscurity” BS. Alex, to me, is the real “paint salesman” this year. I think he is the type of person AI is really supposed to be about finding, someone who sang only a couple of times in public with zero connections to the music business.

You can call the kid whatever you want, or criticize his singing all you want, but, judging by the number of comments, more people are interested in him than in the winner of Season 9. Heck, more people are interested in Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta than Lee Dewyze. That a contestant who didn’t even make the top 10 is more popular than the winner pretty much sums up Season 9.
