Adam Levine, on the Ellen DeGeneres Show with his fellow coaches Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera responded to Randy Jackson’s derisive charge that The Voice was a “second chance” show.

“I heard about this,” said Adam. “Shame on Randy Jackson for saying that, because he out of anybody should know that if you’re in this business you need second, third, fourth and fifth chances. So we love and embrace that being part of the show. You know, god bless Randy. He was a working musician for a long time and had a lot of success and then the show Idol kind of blew him out of the water. And he is a household name now. It was an irresponsible thing to say that.”

Randy is getting it from all sides lately. That’s what happens when you talk smack!

The Voice cast play “Gestures”

  • koshka

Adam Levine and his ego speaking.. thats the only down to Randy’s verbal smack down. Why does there have to be a down side to everything good?

Good for Adam. He told it like it is but was classy in the telling.

I love Gestures on Ellen. That was fun and funny.

  • sp34567

    He’s right.  He’s totally right.

hahahaha thats hilarious! I love the gestures game it was funny Adam Levine is an idiot eh? hahaha

It’s not like Adam is no angel either.

my question is…what was randy’s exact quote? bc it’s true, the voice is more about 2nd chances than raw, undiscovered talent….more so than idol (bc we all know some idols have had deals and such before). So was Randy saying that as a smackdown about the voice? Or just a general statement?

I just watched an episode of S7 of Idol where the judges made a comment about second chances bc of the heat they were getting about some those idols’ pasts. Idol has made comments about giving people 2nd chances all the time.

So I don’t see how it was an “irresponsible” comment when it is true. Unless….Randy compete comment and demeanor of the comment was intent on being rude.

Oh Adam, Adam, Adam, I love you, but you sure now how to stir the turd huh?  That wasn’t an insult it was true.  You spent the entire first season rubbing our noses in the differences between the voice and Idol, and then when someone pretty much tells the truth about those differences you use it to fan the flames even further.  Gotta love you.

Wasn’t one of the big differences that the voice didn’t have ‘cattle call’ auditions, but they were invited?  How do you invite folk who are unknowns?  They all had to have had some kind of prior exposure.  Eh, who cares, show pretty much is crap after the chair episodes….

WOW. Christina REALLY let herself go.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Randy said it disparagingly at an Idol press conference, so I agree with Adam Levine on this one. I can get insulting the show (I don’t like it, but I get it) however I have issues with going after the contestants like that.

    LOL.
The poop-throwing contest between three shows is amusing.
And Adam certainly can dish it out (and then pull righteous indignation) far better than Randy Jackson.

But then again, Randy is an awful spokes person, and should not be allowed to represent… well… anything.

It’s unfortunate that although I agree with his response to Randy, coming from him it just loses all credibility.  Here is the guy who dissed AI singers and did very little to help his “protoge” Javier Colon.  He is on “The Voice” only to help Adam Levine.  He could care less about these singers and their second chances.  I may be proven wrong about Levine but I just get a very narcissistic vibe about him.

  • superfudge

He did very little to help Javier? What is he supposed to do? You don’t see Randy, Steven and J.Lo going around booking shows for Scotty, Lauren or James. Once these shows are over they are in the hands of their management and labels. And Adam has talked about Javier a number of times, brought him out to play the Hollywood Bowl and recorded a duet with him on his album. Did JLo or Steven duet with anyone from season 10?

Randy Jackson’s not having a very good week, huh? First, Betty Buckley gets on him on Twitter and now this.

I really wish the judges/coaches/mentors would realize it’s not a zero-sum game. The better one show does, the better the acceptance of other shows.

Anyone who is a fan of daytime TV knows this, as one soap after another has bit the dust.

Adam Levine has his faults, but I thought his reply was very appropriate, and delivered in a mature way.  Randy to me is Idol’s biggest weakness, and there is no comparison between Randy and Adam Levine in any way.  I know who I would rather see on my television every week despite the fact that American Idol is my definitely the superior show.

Using a show like Idol or The Voice to give someone a “second chance” is a recipe for failure. I think this is why Season 10 of AI was so successful. For the most part, they stuck to their original mission of finding undiscovered amateur singers. Pia, Thia, and Paul were the only true professionals in the group, and the voters wisely got rid of them in short order. Hopefully this trend will continue in Season 11.

hahahahahahah makes me excited for The Voice

  • Anonymous

well when half the cast from last year were people who had already been around (javier, dia, frenchie, etc), randy kind of has a point that the voice is about second chances… and i wouldn’t really be insulted by that because the show is only giving these artists exposure, and how is that a bad thing? i’m still bitter when adam said that any of the finalists on the voice last year could win any year of idol… hahah like that would ever happen!!

i’ll just be over here with my popcorn while simon v. nigel & randy v. adam happens. it’s entertaining. lol

Oh Christina. You look like such a mess.

throw that dowdy dress away Christina.   Gestures was fun.   Love Ellen.   Love the Voice,  love Idol after voting starts but it needs some freshness.

Good for Adam Levine.  It’s about time people in the business like him and Betty Buckley yesterday (re: Broadway disses) stood up to Randy (and Nigel) in all their arrogance. Bravo!

Hahaha  Blake’s face when he gets DIVA. Speaking of Blake, ran across this on twitter. Turns out the back-up singer he had on Leno is someone that tried out for The Voice. Wondering if she’s one of Blake’s picks and he already is using her OR if she didn’t make the final cut but he liked her voice well enough to hire her.

Was Thia a professional? She was only 15 years old when she joined. I guess it is a good mix of what I think are non-professionals (like Jacob & Thia), singing contest “professionals” (Scotty, Lauren) and professionals (Pia, Paul).

I like Christina’s look and attitude a lot here, runnning around barefoot and having lots of fun with the game. The dress looks cute, and no, she is not super skinny, but so what? On another note: not that I love Randy, put Levine playing the goodhearted supporter of talent when he is really all about himself was not convincing.

  • http://twitter.com/nancy2heart nancy

I don’t think Scotty, Lauren or James seemed to need any help – they received LOTS of help either from fans or Country Music (in the case of Scotty & Lauren), and Idol itself maybe?  But though I loved Javier, I hardly ever hear anything about him – therefor, “the Voice” should step in & help him, IMO. It’s not easy. Maybe he just needs better management – which the Voice should provide to get him started. I have no idea what they do for their winners, but it obviously isn’t much!

Now if only somebody would stand up to Adam’s arrogance…

  • Anonymous

It’s different because the judges on idol aren’t mentors.

  • Anonymous

Didn’t “The Voice” bill itself as the show that would topple (and is better than) Idol before the first episode aired? I actually agree with Randy – I was surprised they picked it up for a second season. What he said may have been mean, but it isn’t any worse than what the Voice judges say about Idol.
