Just wondering- has the debut album for the runner ups and winners always been available for pre- order before the album name was known? Have they all had the TBD title?

I suppose the album will be released in other countries eventually, but all those say Import, which means the album is coming from US, doesn’t mean the album is being released in those countries. (Other than Canada) Those Amazon stores just get it from the US to people in those areas and it’s way cheaper than getting it directly from the US.

I like to buy Adam’s music through iTunes. I assume I’ll be able to… eventually.

The Amazon.com US site is messed up a bit — they haven’t taken down the old Adam Lambert TBD Album listing. So the old page comes up at #4 and the pre-order page in #13 (2nd page) when you search on “Adam Lambert”.

And, I haven’t gotten an email to say it is available for pre-order yet. Maybe other people have. But, hopefully, they will get rid of the old page soon.

I ordered two………I think Adam’s cd will be high on my gift giving list this Christmas I will hold off and order the rest later so that Adam’s sales numbers will continue.

It looks like it’s a separate product — so that might mean that it will have some bonus or that the tracks included will be different. I also expect that there will be a Japanese edition at some point in the future.

Yes, it looks like RCA decided to invest in a UK version right out of the gate. Otherwise Amazon UK would have the US Import on 11/24 — instead of 12/7/09. And it’s been up for a long time, so it is not a mistake.

Maybe there is no “European version” (there usually isn’t, only Japan gets their own versions these days it seems), but the European release date, sometimes around 07/12/2009, is only a date when the physical cd’s are officially delivered to regular stores. It makes sense that the mail order stores are able to start selling the album the same day when it only arrives to the huge center storages for later distribution.

MJ I have a question about Itunes I have a Mac and of course have Itunes on it I have tried to order through you site before by clicking on your Itunes link. It brings me to my Itunes application on my computer. I can not tell if you then get credit for it. Amazon link you can see in the toolbar your blogs name but my Itunes application I can not tell. It’s not an import, it’s a UK edition, which is quite common for US artists releasing in the UK. We don’t usually get a lot of imports, they’re too expensive. With the UK economy what it is today, an expensive Adam Lambert (import) CD would cut down the sales numbers appreciably, so a UK produced copy is a good move by 19/RCA.

I’m not going to be pre-ordering this early for no apparent reason when it’ll be widely available on that day, whether in stores or as a digital d/l, but what I’m wondering is if pre-sales count toward the CD’s sales numbers pre-release. What I mean is, is it hypothetically possible for an album to go ‘gold’  (or whatever the first magical quantity is that makes people sit up and take notice) before a CD is actually available?

That would be the only reason I’d bother to pre-order, to help with sales totals in my own miniscule way.

Pre sales count for first week sales. Last year Cook’s big pre sales helped give him a big opening week which is always a good thing.

Every sale counts – pre-orders will go into first week sales – that’s why people are saying SuBo will be big competition for Adam in the first week. She’s had massive pre-orders.

@Squirrely: normally money is drawn when the product is shipped, but I think you need to enter the gift certificate no when you order – otherwise Amazon will think that you’re going to use your regular card (I don’t know if that can be changed later though).

Honest to God. I’ll stop being such a wet blanket. But it’s Adam’s Idol fans that even know this album is available for sale. No one outside the bubble is aware of stuff like this. Adam won’t make NEW fans until he releases a single.

Pre sales for Adam will always measure his fanbase until radio plays the single. It’s almost a textbook way to judge how big the fanbases are. As in Kris doesn’t have a very big one. Oh, and Amazon doesn’t sell a heck of alot of albums so a strong fanbase can really get you up this chart quickly (they chart hourly).

Not necessarily. Since the rankings are relative real time numbers, it is possible that a #24 ranking corresponds to a couple of hundred albums in the past few hours – I think.

Not exactly. Muse debuted at no 1 Itunes UK the day it was released, so did Jay Z. I’m not sure how they calculate their number but I’m inclined to think, from watching chart movements, that their equation takes into account BOTH time relativity and total sales.
The fact that they keep their ranking method secret, always felt a bit dodgy to me tbh.

Exactly. They weren’t going to take a chance on someone who had no intention of hiding who he was and honestly, I can’t say I blame them. It’s a lot of money and time that goes into developing a new artist. Adam was brilliant to go on AI IMO and I bet RCA is thanking their lucky damn stars he did!

If someone sells 10, 000K albums on iTunes in an hour, it is very possible to get a #1 album on iTunes. You don’t really need to sell that many albums. Remember, iTunes sells way more singles than albums.

But iTunes is very secretive about how they rank. I can’t really figure it out. Amazon is alot easier to understand.

I think Amazon update it every hour, but I don’t think it is based on how many copies they sold for the past hour because that is just not reasonable. Plus, if it is 1hr selling, they won’t need the “movers and shakers” part, which is the hourly change. I would think it add all the sells together in a certain time (eg. from last two months to now, this is just my thinking), just like iTunes, so like Susan has been there for several weeks, her accumulated selling # is very strong to keep her there, while Adam, just got this release for pre-order, the accumulation cannot be that huge when compared with the tops. We’ll see.

After Adam gets a single released, and if it does well, his album will stay waaaay up on amazon.com. At least, that’s my guess. Am most curious about iTunes, just b/c so many of us use it *raising hand*. Of course, I can pre-order amazon and still download iTunes. And that is exactly what I plan to do.

Unless there’s something that specifically explains otherwise, I interpret that to mean the numbers are updated hourly, i.e., published to the web site, not measured hourly. The Bestsellers list is exactly what’s it’s called… BestSELLERS. The Movers & Shakers list measures degree of movement over 24 hours.

Of course, I can pre-order amazon and still download iTunes. And that is exactly what I plan to do.

Wow, I went away for a little bit, and came back to see Adam’s CD at #6 for US preorders. I know it’s too early to know if that means anything at all, but considering that the PR hasn’t started yet, and it’s just folks like us here who know it’s available for preorder, (it still doesn’t show up as available for preorder if I just search for Adam on Amazon), that’s still looking very promising.

Me too, I really don’t care about numbers right now. It just makes it seem more real that we can buy his album. I still remember on AI, Top 13 or 36 episode I think, when he said that getting to record an album would be a dream come true for him. I’m happy for him and for us.

I believe that the poster is referencing the fact that the only clue that people had that it was available for pre-sale on Amazon was on the internet, through message boards. If you search for Adam Lambert on Amazon’s home page, the page to pre-order it does not come up. There have been no announcements on any of the entertainment sites that it is available for pre-sale, but I imagine those are coming.

That said, it certainly speaks to the size of Adam’s internet fan base in a VERY positive way.

Yes we can, but other people have. Here’s an MSNBC article that explains the algorithm of Amazon’s hourly bestseller list. In this case they talk about books, but the equation is the same for all Amazon products.

Amazon is nothing if not diligent about their statistics. They don’t take these formulations lightly and even though they may convey some “false positives” early on, they do seem to get the big picture pretty accurately overall.

So not to rain on anyone’s parade while we’re all giddy with joy looking at the numbers, but if the info in that great MSNBC article is accurate, there’s a good chance that Adam’s album may drop back down a ways as soon as all of us hardcore fans who plan on pre-ordering click that button.

The album’s current ranking seems like a good measurement of fan engagement inside the Idol bubble, but since there’s been no radio promo or press specific to the album or single I’m guessing most of the more casual fans who don’t scour the internet daily probably don’t even know about it. Although if the purported “Adam Storm” actually does happen next week, maybe that could keep those numbers from dropping too far.

Well – I think the unofficial official word right now is that Adam’s single drop date WILL NOT be the same date as MJ’s, who was set for Oct 13, iirc. So Adam is predicted to be the week before or after.

Luv, if you cut on your iPhone/iPod by highlighting the section with the blue dots (tapping on section and dragging what you want to include), you can tap this Leave a Reply window and “Paste” will come up. Hit that and your passage will paste.

After that, tap the selection again. It may only highlight one word, but it should give you the dots to drag out. Drag to highlight everything you want to block quote, then just hit b-quote and it will blockquote the entire passage.

ETA: Double-clicking (i.e., tapping twice quickly) seems to work best and it will give you a “select all” option, which makes it much quicker. Same thing after you paste. Click on the Reply window once: it will give you the Paste option. Click on that. Double tap the passage again and hit Select All. If it doesn’t cooperate, just drag the blue dots out. Then click b-quote.

Yeah, I’d be really surprised if his ranking doesn’t drop at least a little bit. For the movers and shakers list Adam won’t be ranked by this time tomorrow, of course. Unless he makes a huuuuge drop in the bestsellers ranking. Just saying so people won’t panic when he disappears .

On another note, it looks like Adam’s climb has encouraged more people to buy Kris’s as well – it is now up to #141 on the bestseller and #6 on the movers and shakers list.

I’ve been posting on MJs for just a couple of weeks now, but thought I might recap what I’ve heard predicted about Adam’s future just in that short time:

1) He will be an international star
2) He will do movies & television
3) He may have already done television (Flash Forward end scene)
4) Time for Miracles is likely to be nominated for an Oscar and Adam will, naturally, perform the song at the Academy Awards
5) Adam will perform at the 2010 VMAs
6) Adam will perform at the 2010 Grammys
7) Adam will be nominated for 2010 VMAs/Grammys
8 ) Adam will have a #1 album

And that’s just off the top of my head. All I can say is that the intertubes really need some actual music from Adam before someone has him becoming President or Pope.

For today, Adam’s ranking numbers are essentially based on hourly figures. Tomorrow, the equation will alter slightly.

Adam’s album is now #4 on Amazon.

#6 on Amazon US is pretty hot!! Since they just put it up on a Sunday with no promo — not even an Adam Tweet.

And lloks like the Idol Bubble includes Japan because Adam is still at #28 on Amazon Japan. It’s only been on the site for 16 hours and hit #34 13+ hours ago.

YA, Amazon is like Itunes, it has banners for new and upcoming releases.

I usually buy all my hard copy CDs through Amazon because It takes longer for them to get to Kuwaiti stores.
I’m not sure about Amazon’s market share of the CD sales market, I can find out, but I’d be surprised if it were less than 10%.

I’m sure Q3 can give us exact numbers on the market share.

I don’t think they are specifically. But — and this is just me — before this morning happened, I was envisioning Adam’s mini press tour (like the one Kris did for LLWD) for his single starting later this week (well, I was hoping, but of course it could be much later). I figured they’d time the ability to pre-order the album right along with those radio and online publication interviews about the single, and that would send casual fans and curious people to the album pre-order.

So this morning seemed backwards, the pre-order is available but Adam’s either at some private gig in NOLA or slaving away in the studio, he’s not out telling people about it. And so I was pretty surprised with the speed it rose up the rankings because of that. Was it announced that Adam’s TBA album would be available for pre-order by amazon.com on their banners? Did several of you receive emails? At the same time, did the information make it onto IDF which then got relayed to mj (and to Twitter, perhaps simultaneously)? And at that point, lots of pre-orders were made, which made Adam go to the Top of Movers and Shakers, and then go to #24 to 6 to 4 on the #of pre-orders that were made (I assume that is that’s what it meant)?

I mean, this is awesome, but I don’t quite get what happened *slow*. And halfie, as always, you crack me the hell up. God, two Adam threads in two days? Geez. Wait till TFM is leaked (Thursday during 2012 roadblock, perhaps) and/or released, not to mention the first single (possible but not limited to Strut). If this article is accurate, that is good news! I still think that MJ’s posthumous song will suck up a good portion of the press, even if it is being released only to radio on the 16th rather than as a single. But probably not as intense, since their big marketing push will likely happen more for the album instead.

No announcement, no banners, no fanfair, nothing like the SuBo presale press releases and promots. I don’t think Amazon has sent the emails yet in any country — at least no one has said they got it. It just started. IMO Japan gets the credit because they were the first.

I think when it hit the 30′s in Japan and went on pre-sale in Germany, there started to be a lot on buzz online — and around 2:00AM EST, Adam fans in the UK must have noticed it was on pre-sale there — because sales started accellerating in the UK were it was just sitting.

AS far as I know, it wasn’t announced. I didn’t get any email and I had the notification to receive one. Late last night here on MJ’s someone (Q3) I believe noted that Japan was selling his CD. Not sure where her intial finding came from. Then on this site and I’m sure on others, people started looking at other countries…UK, Germany (again Q3 kept us informed.) Many were lamenting that you could buy in those places but not US. I searched through Amazon’s site and it wasn’t listed as being available on their general search and it’s STILL NOT. I’m sure someone kept investigating and found it and shared it on IDF..which made it’s way to all the other blogs. OR…it was here first The internet rules at detective work. Hopefully, it wasn’t supposed to be kept quiet until the simultaneous TFM/Single News ETC in order to get the biggest splash the next day. If it was, oops!

Let me see if I can take a stab at the chronology.
1. Someone (do not know who or what community) discovered that Adam’s album was available for pre-order on Amazon Japan, and posted it online.
2. It quickly spread through the online Idolsphere, and those of us who are wicked insomniacs or super early birds and in non-US time zones entertained ourselves by continually refreshing Amazon Japan while simultaneously flailing as hour by hour it shot up the site quickly.
3. This also made everyone curious about THEIR country, and links to other international pre-orders were posted as they were found. There was more flailing. And we all started obsessively refreshing Amazon US.
4. And FINALLY during one of those refreshes, magic happened, it was available ON US SOIL.
5. There was much rejoicing, links were immediately posted anywhere Idol related anyone could think of.
6. And not to be underestimated, twitter, twitter, twitter.
7. Then we all popped popcorn, and settled in to *cross fingers* or pray to @god or whatever, and hope that Adam’s rise up the Amazon US rankings would at least match the Amazon Japan ones. Which they did. And then some. Much much much (probably kinda irritating to those who don’t care about Adam) more flailing ensued.

ETA: I think it’s possible that having it climb the Amazon US list made it visible to people who happened to be on Amazon looking at music, and the link to the pre-order tweeted over and over also pulled in some casual fans along with the hardcore ones. ETA: Honestly, I am not remotely worried about Adam’s TBD (or TBA or A D A M or whatever) album. The dude is pretty damned savvy, as well madly talented. He only killed it on the Idols Tour (never mind Idol). The album will do well, but I think his Tour will do better, and he can sell thousands more albums that way.

Maybe it will be for the album? Because it seems as if the single isn’t part of the Itunes pass? Or if it is, it isn’t registering as such currently? It would be wrong for the Itunes sales not to count toward his album sales, certainly. But the album hasn’t started selling there yet, right?

How many people put out their stuff with passes? I wonder if the rankings algorithm has the ability to incorporate the passes? I would think it would. If it didn’t, then record companies wouldn’t see any benefit to the passes, since they wouldn’t register in some important rankings.

Considering Simon said to Adam he thought he would be a worldwide star, I’m not in the least surprised that his album was going to be released internationally. I never expected his album to be an import to the UK.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a CD with an import label stuck on it, unless it was a deluxe version from Japan! And that was many years ago when I saw that!

Certainly, Kelly, Jordin, Cookie, Archie and Daughtry’s albums were all available from the off in the UK. They weren’t imports. AI is received very well in the UK. There’s no reason why Adam’s album would be an import here.

I can’t even tell whether this comment is meant to be sarcastic or not, but if it’s not, I think I’d rather release on the biggest sales week of the year where SuBo (who sells to a completely different demographic) is pretty much the only competition for the number one spot, than release on a week where I might be buried under John Mayer, Avril Lavigne, Leona Lewis, 50 Cent, Shakira, Norah Jones, etc. etc.

I don’t mind buying at full price in order to get it immediately. And I think, that one or two dollars extra is a small price to pay in support of Adam.

Re: SuBo. I don’t she is going to attract the same demographic as Adam. She was a novelty, the recluse opens her mouth and nails Les Miserables most famous song. They want to merchandise Adam; would you buy a SuBo t-shirt? Poster?

And a word of warning. I bought Leave This Town from Amazon and there were NO bonus songs. Bonus songs goes to the big retailers – WalMart and Target and Itunes. Maybe there won’t be any bonus songs but it is the latest gimmick to get fans to buy the actual cd and not hand pick tracks from the internet. Itunes sometimes throws in the video from the first single. So be forewarned, you may regret ordering from Amazon.

BTW, Amazon guarantees their price, if they see other stores selling the same BASIC cd for less, they will reduce the price also.

Do artists get a percentage of sales? Or just a flat rate? I don’t mind spending a little more just to have it done, have it on its way for sure, and maybe send a few extra pennies Adam’s way. A twisted form of karma for me, who hopes to be published one day and just learned about royalties and warehouse discounts and remainder racks.

Re: The SuBo issue. Yes, I’ve underestimated her before, but really? Thank you advern, you’re totally right. She’s done what? Two/three songs while we’ve heard a thousand (well, maybe several hundred) hours of Adam. In every style, every genre.

Granted, that’s no guarantee of success and they have to pick a (sort of) genre, but I will say, he not only handles a genre, he is often the best interpreter of any genre I’ve ever heard him sing.

And, it was mentioned on there that if the price goes down, it will be applied to all pre-orders. And, I got the free shipping as I ordered new headphones, which I needed anyways. But, my CD won’t be sent until 11/30, so……

I’ll also be buying another CD at Walmart, probably at midnight on the 24th. I won’t be able to wait for UPS either. And, if there’s extra stuff on the Walmart one, I want that too. Just want to be sure I’m covered…lol!

We sent tons of packages to soldiers (you can get a list online) included the cd and other things that the soldiers has asked for.

I think something about Adam’s album will be cool (trending) so everyone will know it’s available for pre-order.

Cool that it’s going world wide right away, because it means someone thinks there’s a market for it. Otherwise, everything seems pretty cool. The album will be available soon from many places and in many ways, and it will be available for many weeks, at least, after it first drops. Everyone’s different, but for me, the least stressful thing is to just wait and buy it in a store (if I hear liner notes are worth it) or download it from iTunes.

Now, real news would be getting to hear some tracks. I’m chill enough to not buy until I’ve heard it, but that doesn’t keep me from wanting to know whether it’s worth looking forward to. Cough it up!

As soon as I am home I will be ordering several copies (not on a secure network). One for my friend that can’t afford the cd (an earlier xmas present!). She came to the concert with me and we will travel to a solo concert!!! One for my co-worker that I took to the concert and I have partially converted, one for my daughter who pretended not to like Adam until I got to the tour concert (where she begged me for the t-shirt!) and one for my son, who pretends not to like Adam (but I think is just totally perplexed about his mother!!!) In the next week, if I think of anyone else I will add them to the list. I am soooooo hoping for a single, very very soon! And will certainly be watching tv at 10:45 pm on Thursday.

They want you to buy more than one.

I’m just going by history. All the Idols that do well in the music industry keep selling week after week. It’s not the Idol fans who keep buying Carrie Underwood CDs and Daughtry Cds. It’s the casual radio listener. If you want to buy multiple copies, feel free. But it won’t really matter in the long run if it doesn’t catch on with the general public and get radio play (see: Hicks, Taylor and Aiken, Clay).

I might buy more than one if they have different bonus tracks and I want the songs.

Finally, I’m not telling anyone else what to do. I’m just not going to spend my money in hopes of helping someone else achieve stardom. To me, it’s about a product that I hope I will love.

Damn this thread is moving fast lol. To answer someone’s question about Walmart – yes, they are generally open 24 hours and yes they usually stock new releases (books, CDs) on the shelves to be sold at midnight on the release date. Check with your local Walmart though to make sure yours does this.

I love your post because I think it represents what people outside of “the bubble” are thinking about Adam’s album, if they’re thinking about it at all. I am very hopeful, based on Adam’s talent, and the A-list collaborators he’s working with, that he can come out with some excellent, hit-worthy songs.

The thing that pisses me off about amazon.com is that the album is $13.99 PLUS shipping, whereas it will probably be $11.99, no shipping involved not sure what the cost is at Best Buy or Walmart).

Actually, they’ll charge whatever the price is at the time they ship it. And at that point the price has usually dropped. I’ve pre-ordered before and have never paid the price as high as the one listed when I pre-ordered. Though there’s always a first time, of course.

Yes they do. And big first week single sales make for headlines, which make for buzz which make for free marketing which make for more sales.

Well I just pre-ordered 6 copies of Adam’s CD – stocking stuffers for the kids and for one friend. I’m still going to Target on D-day to buy it before I get it from Amazon. It’ll be $13.99 at Target – usually new CD’s are. At least MJ gets credit for all the entertainment she provides us.

And it doesn’t pay to argue with a stubborn 80 year old! The 80 year olds will win every time.

So – to keep peace – I ordered two.

Any song Adam touched during AI turned to Gold imo, so I hope this is the same case for his new album.

The difference is that the stuff they sing on AI (No Boundaries excepted, of course) is all music that’s become pretty popular, stood test of time, etc. On a brand-new Idol’s album, they’ll have brand new stuff, most of it churned out extremely quickly. Even with songwriters who are largely quite successful, that stuff can easily range from mediocre to pure pure crap. And 19 and Sony have not had a good record for ensuring that the songs themselves aren’t pretty crappy.

That said, Adam can make crap into at *least* copper or nickel or brass, or something, if not gold, I’m sure. And if he gets a *mediocre* song — I think he could take on of those and make it at least silver or gold plate. This is what makes him luckier than most of the other Idol alums, I think.

BTW, not having cared b4 now, but has any other AI person ranked this high on Amazon?

I have always been curious about this as it has been alluded to before and I never quite got exactly what happened.

I routinely buy CDs, DVDs and books as Xmas/birthday gifts for my family and close friends (i.e. people for whom I think I have an of what their tastes or dislikes are in such matters). Therefore this would be normal for me.

The thing that pisses me off about amazon.com is that the album is $13.99 PLUS shipping, whereas it will probably be $11.99, no shipping involved (not sure what the cost is at Best Buy or Walmart). Now granted, if you cannot get to these locales, then yes, you buy it on amazon, of course. But I usually buy stuff there b/c of the savings (I see that Harry Connick, Jr’s album has been discounted). If you buy more items, you save the shipping charges (so I suppose I need to buy another item, like a book, to bring it to $25.00 and therefore no shipping charges). But still’ ¦isn’t amazon about the savings? *shaking head*

I’ve bought preorders from Amazon before. When it was actually shipped, I was charged the price at the time of shipping. I received a notice that the price had changed, and I got the discounted price. I Imagine that will be the case here too.

For me (for you) it’s important to physically have the CD. To see the picture. To read everything. Downloading just doesn’t give me the same joy as owning a CD. That’s why years ago when music cassettes were popular I stuck with vinyl. It’s sad to think that even though Adam’s face was made to grace an album cover we’ll have to make do with a CD.

The soldiers ask for a lot of different things, magazines, snack food. I think only the government can drop things out of airplanes so I highly doubt they were dropping Taylor’s cd.

Seriously, I’m only planning to buy 3-4 as gifts: one for my girlfriend in North Carolina, one for my mother-in-law and poss two for friends in Toronto and New York. Two of these folks caught a couple of episodes of AI and were impressed with Adam, one was hooked when I sent him a CD of all Adam’s performances and pre-Idol videos, and my MIL just loves good music.

I just don’t want anyone I know to download him illegally. I’m not big on that practice anyway, but I def want our boy to make money.

not at all .. I’m the same .. in fact I very rarely pre-order an album for myself untill I’ve heard a few sample snippets. I’m a huge Robbie Wlliams fan but I haven’t even pre ordered his even though I love the single that’s been released to the radio. I just like to get a feel of the whole album. … I know I’ll buy it but I just want to hear a bit more first.

The same with Adam’s .. I am 100% sure I’ll buy it but I’m waiting for previews before ordering.

I was looking for Kris’ ranking earlier and the easiest way to find it is to go to the Movers and Shakers list and it will also show his ranking there – he was 141 last time I checked (6 on the M&S).

I love some Streisand and wouldn’t mind if the she and the Beatles are ahead of Adam in Amazon charts. They have been in the industry for a looooooong time. But Adam……just fresh coming out of the AI bubble. It must be something else. I would wonder however if later on Susan Boyle will be ahead of Adam.

Wait, are people organizing a mass send-out to the troops for Adam’s CD? Where is that coming from?

Also, while buying by the boatloads isn’t worth anyone’s time really, they do plan on cashing in on hardcores buying the various copies with extras — a lot of artists do that. Also, they plan on people buying the album as a gift–hence the release date.

However, en masse missions without knowing the recipient’s taste or caring about them is never a good idea. It happens all the time though, not limited to AI fans. The crap CDs I have got in Secret Santa exchanges at work…

Hi smokeyvera. Actually, Sin Synthetic is an electronica artist, and the name of his single is “Adam Lambert.” It’s been selling on iTunes for quite awhile now. I haven’t listened to it (or the other one, which may be a remix) but it’s supposed to be about a stalker chasing after Adam. Not very tasteful, but I think it’s legal.

Not a lawyer, but I’m fairly sure there is nothing wrong with titling your own creative work, “Adam Lambert”.

First, IIRC, titles are not copyrightable, only content. Second, Adam is a public person and therefore fair game for tribute or parody.

I think his name in this context may fall under “fair use.”

Remember the song “Bette Davis Eyes”? I might be able to come up with some others, but I’m not an intellectual property expert. I’ll defer to someone who might be – we have LOTS of professionals on this blog!

IMO: buying music you like as a gift is perfectly OK. That’s how you buy gifts – the stuff you like… And from my VAST “recruiting” experience during the voting season – everyone who gets exposed to Adam loves it (remember “resistance is futile” mantra = very true). Besides – the first edition of his first CD will become a collectable in a few years…- here, I said it first

I was going to put my lips t-shirt on eBay, but I decided to keep it b/c I think it will also be collectible in a few years, too.

It is clear that Adam is going to be an international star. Pauler was so right about this. And this is why it’s so exciting. If you had told me someone like Adam would end up in the finale a couple of years ago, I would have said NO FREAKING WAY (e.g., RoF, PTFM, WLL). But b/c he is so talented and so charismatic, he went all the way to the end, and it’s just begun. I could not be more excited about this. As they say, the excitement is palpable. And now it’s not a competition. It’s just about Adam. I could cry for him; truly, this is the American Dream.

I want to hear his singles, see his videos, buy his album, flail at his Tour. And I have NEVER felt that way about a contestant before. Or anyone before. It’s amazing. I am going to buy the bloody album now. I will just find a way to buy a .70 pencil.

Um, no. People have talked about buying multiple copies for themselves (one for the car, one for the home stereo, for example) or as gifts for friends and family they think might enjoy Adam, especially if he were free.

However, many people seem to be worried that there are those lurking that MAY be considering ignoring the consequences of past crazy behavior, and shipping crates of CDs to our troops or something. No one has copped to this plan though, the consensus seems to be that it would be seriously cray cray, not to mention counterproductive, behavior.
