If I preordered off Itunes how do I go about getting the songs now- should they automatically upload or do I actually buy the album

Yay. I love the album. Broken Open is so beautiful to me. Wow. I like Whattaya Want from Me a lot more than I did before. I like Fever too. The only one that I’m not cookoo for is Aftermath, but it could grow on me. I can’t wait to see him on Letterman and GMA.

Sales predictions?

Already got mine, love it. My sales prediction 400,000.

Well, my download hasn’t started yet. But then again, it’s the first time I pre-order something from my local iTunes store, I had always pre-ordered on the US one, they might just be quicker there. I guess I’ll have to wait.

This album deserves a chance. It’s seriously good. At least Adam has this thing under his sleeve. I still believe, tonight more than ever, that FYE was a dreadful choice as a first single.

The best luck in the world for Adam with this album. When he promised eclectic, he delivered, in a great way.

BTW, I really believe that A Loaded Smile is the masterpiece on this record.

And sales predictions? I won’t even dare. After tonight, I’m thinking 90k, over 150k would be nice though.

I love this album. I got my CD from AO yesterday and it is one of the best compilations of songs I’ve ever heard.

Just want to forget about the AMA performance and listen to Adam’s beautiful voice.

FYE is such a great work-out song. Goes so well right after Gaga’s Love Game.

A Loaded Smile is so lovely. Just shows how many sides Adam has. I hope the world gets to see them all!

But there are no bonus tracks on Amazon’s digital download. That’s why I think they are discounting it. All of the bonus tracks are on Itunes and AO.

Very glittery thank you note which I loved (Spelled Allison wrong when he was listing the other Idols in his thank you, LOL). Also, I wonder if he knows another Kris, because he listed a Kris as one of his “gypsies”, and that’s the last thing I think of when I think of Kris, LOL.

Most of the songs are bland electronic music, but there are a few gems, so it’s not a total waste. I was looking forward to Soaked. It didn’t live up to my expectations at all………

IT EXCEEDED THEM AND HOLY MOTHER OF ALL ADAMGASMS. Why aren’t there more songs like this? By Adam’s standards, a bit of a disappointment, but my pop music standards today, it’s relevant. The instrumentation is terrible, though. It’s more grating than Lady GaGa’s type of electronic music.

Still, I bought it, and Soaked is f*cking amazing. The rest of the album, eh, not so much. There are some pretty decent songs, but personally there’s too much bland stuff. Really hit-or-miss. It’ll live, and it’s not a terrible start to Adam’s career, but if we were to compare Adam’s Idol stuff to this stuff, Adam’s Idol stuff really kicks this stuff out of the water. I’m still mad at myself for not buying Season 8 Favorite Performances from Adam.

A quarter of the songs are really good, the rest of them are okay or not very good. Not a great ratio, but hey, there’s at least one song I’d listen to. I’d give it a C, C+? I usually have an 80-100% ratio of songs I like when I listen to an album, this goes way under that.

In conclusion, not totally worth the buy, but not really “not worth it” either. I still wish Adam would’ve stuck to the rock style he did on the show, since I’m not seeing very many signs of that here. Although I do commend him for sticking to his desire to do electro-pop, I’m just not seeing glam rock in this very much. Hopefully his second album is better.

*electropop hater here, so that might be why Adam’s album isn’t my type*.

Still, it’s probably a bit better than I expected if I’m not regretting buying it.

An aggressive pricing strategy like that certainly can’t hurt. Digital albums are generally unlikely to contribute more than 10-15% of total units this first week, but deep discounts at Amazon can increase digital volume to the point that it makes a difference. Amazon’s $3.99 sale pricing was largely credited with giving Lily Allen’s last album a top 5 debut in the U.S.

Right now it is sitting at #14 and #25 on iTunes chart. Lady Gaga’s new album (Fame Monster) is at #4 and #20 (The Fame is at #12) while Susan Boyle’s is at #6 and Rihanna is at #22

Just heard Soaked on youtube. Sounds very reminiscent of the opening themes for cheesy Asian dramas in the 70s-80s, as well as the always present slow Vietnamese ballads at your local Vietnamese restaurant which seem to never go out of style there. Definitely not to my liking.

Broken Open is Enya and Madonna-esque and meditation-y. Don’t like at all.

I’ll have to dig through the other tracks, or “sample” them via youtube.

Well, predictions were never really my thing, so we’ll just wait and see.

His music is good, so I think it’ll eventually sell well.

I also think he’s going to sing WWFM on GMA and Letterman.
While it’s not my favourite track on the album, I think it’s a good decision to sing something simple at this point.

From what I have seen, several people have already imploded with righteous indignation. I would love for him to sing Fever and then listen to people go on a tirade about him trying to be a male GAGA. My prediction for sales will be 400,000. I think people have forgotten about the international sales, which I think will be significant.

loving my itunes I downloaded a few songs. I can’t possibly remember the last time I bought a whole album. I bought the songs I liked after I listened to the live stream a few weeks ago, and that’s all. I love what I bought though.

19E and the record company were expecting a BIG PUSH from his performance last night, but many people HATED IT. They expected a great performance to bust his sales, but it was a big mess. So they probably panicked and dropped the price to meet the reported high numbers they planned on.

No, not every album. But it is an increasingly common strategy to drive digital sales volume, as I posted above. There was a Billboard article about a year or so ago that indicated Amazon MP3 sells 2x the volume of digital albums (not singles) as iTunes, due to their frequent weekly fire-sales. They used to limit this to catalog titles (You would see Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues randomly shoot to the top of the digital album chart, for example, because Amazon would sell it digitally for $2.99). But this past year Amazon Mp3 has been employing the strategy more and more frequently with new releases. As I said, Lily Allen sold 70K units to open in the top 5 largely due to discount pricing at Amazon.

And no, before anyone asks, I don’t believe this kind of price cut has been done for any high-profile Idol releases in the past. I think I remember Melinda Doolittle’s album selling for $5.99 at Amazon MP3 at one point (I remember because I bought it), but none others that I recall.

It’s a good thing for Adam, at least in the short term. It will help increase his unit sales (though again, I don’t expect him to sell much more than 15% digitally). At some point RCA is going to have to worry about revenue, but that time is not now.

I like Down the Rabbit Hole. I like the layers of his voice. And the “Tune in, Drop Out’ line that he likes to use is in ther. I didn’t know that was from the musical Hair, until I saw it a few weeks ago.

There is a discrepency between the top 10 on the main page and the top 10 when you click on the top 100 albums on Itunes- one has Adam at #9 and the other has him at #10

Grrr…I pre-ordered the deluxe version on itunes and now when I try to download it it says the the item is no longer available. I have never pre-ordered from itunes and never will again.

Still have not listened to the album. Taking kids to daycare and going right to the store to purchase hard copy. I might try to get the itunes to download but am too frustrated right now.

ETA – just looked at itunes again and it looks like it is selling for 14.41 instead of 16.99 so guess that’s the problem, the price changed.

This is an amazing review! The reviewer went track by track which I really like and I pretty much agreed 100%. I really hope this amazing album is not overshadowed too much by the AMA thing. It deserves to be heard.

oceanarose- I had the same problem but then I got an e-mail saying it was ready for download and I used the link on the e-mail and it worked.

To get my pre-order to download, I had to click on my account and login and then it said my pre-order was ready and started downloading.

Why is that OUCH? The vast majority of the reviews for FYE have been terrific, and most reviewers ranked it better than KA. There are always bound to be reviewers who feel the opposite. C’est la vie.

Actually AdoK, I read that NYT review yesterday during the day. It definitely came before the AMA disaster.

And realvivi? Beyonce’s album is a full year old. Pricing like that for a year old album is not unusual. Her album was a HUGE hit, one of the top 3 of the chart year. It has nothing to prove.

RCA is really doing everything they can to sell this record. I thought it was iteresting that the single cost .99, it makes me think that RCA, like some of Adam’s fans, had expectations that were totally out of whack, and now they need to cover themselves in order to try and break even.

The problem is how much money will RCA make. They do this in order to have bragging rights when an album charts high on billboard, and to make encourage people to purchase the album beyond the first week. The problem is that this doesn’t always work, for example, Bon Jovi’s tally last week was due to the same dealy, but they will have close to a 75% drop this week. Getting a bigger than usual drop is one of the risks in doing something like this.

Those won’t be reported in the U.S., however. Sales get reported country by country except for the handful of people who buy from a U.S. hard-copy store and have the thing shipped. But not many people buy abroad when an album is or will soon be available in their own country.

If I were Amazon selling an mp3 album with *no* bonuses available (when there are bonuses available with mp3s bought at Itunes) *and* was trying to push my mp3 business (as Amazon is, with lots of lower pricing than Itunes on many products, often better-quality mp3s in many people’s opinion, and none of the DRM issues that Itune songs carry), I think I might well slap a low price on an album to get people to buy it and improve my position in the mp3 market. They have a lot of quite popular albums available at low prices. I suspect this pricing has a lot more to do with Amazon’s own business plan regarding downloads than it has to do with Adam in any way, shape or form, actually.

The Deluxe version is #8 (all) and #4 (Pop)…the regular version is #11 (all) and #7 (Pop)…he is climbing!!

Yhe NY Times article is interesting, because they trashed Kris during th AI run…they not only thought Adam should’ve won, they didn’t even think Kris deserved to be in the finals. Then they trashed him again in their review of the tour. And they really liked Adam during the show and on tour. So to say they think he put out a better album than Adam is interesting.

Meanwhile, FYE has moved up the iTunes charts, sitting at #7 overall an #5 and #7 on pop chart. To this point (7 hours after midnight Pacific Coast time), those are lower ranks than what Kris’ album were at 7 hours after midnight Pac Coast time on the day his album dropped (he was at #4 overall and #1 pop). Of course, this doesn’t mean Adam won’t eventually surpass (or in case of the #1 pop, equal) those ranks, or that Adam hasn’t actually sold more albums on iTunes over these few hours. We’ll have to wait and see on those. Kris’ album has dropped back down the charts faily quickly, so perhaps Adam’s will have more staying power. Again, we’ll have to wait and see. However, the fact that he is behind Lady Gaga, Susan Boyle and Rihanna on the iTunes chart right nw does make me wonder if he’s going to be able to finish in the top 5 for sales this week (esp. since he also is going up aginst the John Mayers and Norah Joneses of the world). Will wait until after the GMA and Letterman performances to see if those bring upward movement on these charts or not. Right now, I’d say the album is off to a good start — but not a great one.

Question….on the itunes charts do the ranking reflect purchases over the last 24 hours or so, or do they include pre orders from last week? Are the pre-orders that propelled him to No. 1 on pop chart last week “double counted” if you will when they are converted to real downloads today

Since last week I was focused on Kris’ album hoopla, I did not listen to a stream of FYE. Can someone tell me where I can listen to it? Also, if I want to buy a physical cd, where would I get any bonus tracks (WalMart?). Thanks, and party on!

I’d love to compare the sales numbers of downloads to physical CD sales. I’m one of those who remembers buying records and cassettes so I prefer to buy physical CD’s and not downloads. I know when I went out to buy mine this morning, there were several other close to middle age ladies also buying his CD.

Funny, with all the hype, I would have expected it to shoot up to number 1. Interesting.

I cannot pick a favorite but the more telling thing is that I cannot pick a least favorite either. On my second listen and liking it even more than the first time around. Wow!

Anyone have any information about the bonus download from AO Collector’s Edition? not seeing anything up at AO about it, clicked on the Buy Now and bonus tracks link, but it only has the FYE, WWFM and MP ~ also, strange, but I bought the itunes deluxe album as well, and it was downloaded twice ~ hope, the AO Deluxe extra bonus is something entirely new, love DTRH, still feeling edgy about the AMAs, hope Adam gets some rest, this is a mad world twirl he’s taking us on, up one day, down the next, love him, he’s taking me to the “fine line”, don’t know whether to laugh or cry, maybe just howl.
But then, when i get that way, all i have to do is go and listen to my playlist ~ still in love!

Love the album! It’s doing great on the charts thus far. But GaGa is whooping everyone’s butt and not taking prisoners on the Itunes charts! #1 Single, Music Video, and Album! What a “monster”! heh.

I’m happy for Gaga though, I love her work! She was fantastic last night. When all the other artists had dud performances and didn’t market themselves correctly, Gaga came out swinging.

If other digital albums are being sold at $3.99 like Beyonce’s, not sure what the fuss is about, unless of course a fuss wants to be made.

Most people who really like Adam will still buy the ITUNES and AO versions because of the bonus tracks.

Most of the FYE reviews have been great. Kris also put out a solid album in a different genre. Some folks are going to like that album better. Good for both guys for making solid debut albums.

Thanks, Tammy. I’ll shop at Best Buy because I’ll get 10 copies of FYE for my sister’s graduation as party favours for her friends. They love Lady Gaga. Hope they’ll like Adam. Then I’ll get 10 more copies to take home for x-mas and New Year gifts for friends.

I don’t know if my pre-order from Amazon will arrive before December 6th. I also ordered The Ten Commanments- DVD Musical and other artists’ CDs. I can buy a lot of FYE cds because I’m not lucky enough to get to go to Adam’s concerts. So my concert money goes to spreading his music to music lovers.

I’m listening to Down the Rabbit Hole right now. Can’t say anything about it yet. Will listen to it a few more times.

AMA wasn’t televised here so I only saw Adam’s performance on YouTube. It wasn’t his best performance and not best vocals. I avoided reading pages of comments (no time and just a glance it was not nice.)

And no, before anyone asks, I don’t believe this kind of price cut has been done for any high-profile Idol releases in the past. I think I remember Melinda Doolittle’s album selling for $5.99 at Amazon MP3 at one point (I remember because I bought it), but none others that I recall.

DAUGHTRY in 2006. I seem to recall there was a $6.99 Best Buy special the weekend of Black Friday that year. I don’t think it’s that unusual for a new release, even for Idols. This works to Adam’s advantage if the opening week numbers look healthier. I don’t think it’s necessarily healthy for the bottom line over the long term though.

Incidentally, when I purchased Kris Allen’s CD from Walmart last week, it was marked $13.98 but I was charged $9.98. Not complaining, but I wonder why they didn’t advertise that price publicly (or maybe they did and I missed it??).

Well, #7 and #10 is pretty darn good so far. It is a very tough week. Really curious to see Susan Boyle’s numbers.

And, the deluxe albums sold on his website will count in first weeks’s sales right?

i bought both the deluxe and the itunes..and i received the deluxe early without the bonus tracks..i was annoyed..it cost nearly 30 bucks.

i also bought both the Deluxe AO edition, and the itunes deluxe, the deluxe AO edition bonus tracks are not on the CD you have to download them from the AO site – make sure you click “save” not open when downloading – they will show up in your computer documents then you can click and itunes will open them, I found them under “recently added” playlist, if you still have your email notice they sent with the order number, just click on that and it should take you to the downloads, however, I note that the one supposed available for dl today isn’t there, i emailed the sony support and asked them about it, still waiting for reply, they did acknowledge the email and say within 24hrs i should receive answer. Somehow, my deluxe itunes edition downloaded twice – sure i’ll be charged for that, oh, well ~I haven’t received my Deluxe AO edition in the mail yet. Love DTRH

I picked up a copy of FYE at Best Buy this afternoon (the sticker price was $13.99, but a sign said $9.99). There were 7 copies left after I got mine, but a lot of open space in two different areas where Adam CDs had been. A clerk was restocking and I mentioned that FYE copies were about gone. He said he knew, but he didn’t have more to put out. Seems they’ve been selling well at that particular BB.

During the season, I always thought Adam was more talented than Kris. But — I generally really liked all of Kris’s performances and only some of Adam’s. I fully expected to prefer Kris’s alum to Adam’s. I don’t.

Wow, this is my favorite American album in ages! I really, really like “A Loaded Smile”. “Sleepwalker” is probably my second fave, followed by “Soaked”. But I’m very excited about the whole album.

Adam and Bonjovi fan here. Bonjovi’s new cd “The Circle” went for sale also at $3.99. I know this because I got an email notice from Amazon but it was only good for a few days. So, it’s not strange if Amazon offered it too for Adam’s cd.
