I love music again! And seems like soo many do. Most people think its different and like the rock and dance vibe to it. So isn't that a good representative of what the response would be to the song? Most ppl seem to like it more than not, so isn't that a good reason to make it into the next single?

lambert's not only extremely talented, but also an intelligent and savvy entertainer, who recognizes the industry for what it is.

the interview was also somewhat depressing and poignant, as it illustrates and brings to light the downward spiral of the music industry to what it has devolved to today.

oh for the glory days of geffen... music, film and the written word have not benefited by the corporate bean counter mentality who controls things and does not possess a creative bone in its body. it's all about the bottom line.

so why ask why? what is is.

If rock is dying, it’s due to having been left to the devices of more neutral/neutered musicians, like some mentioned by previous posters. Rock used to be dangerous! and exciting!, but the type of rock now heard on pop radio mostly sounds indistinguishable from Christian rock – pretty bland and very safe. (No offense intended to CR fans.)

The problem, though, may not be that the musicians aren't out there, it may have more to do with the attitude by the record companies that rock music won't have a hit. I'm sure there are plenty of rock bands out there that will not get signed by a major label because of this. I am hoping that there will be a band that really changes what is going on in music, like Guns and Roses in the late 80's then Nirvana in the 90's. Though even if an artist isn't really creating or bringing back a sound, they could create some terrific music within the type of music they are in.

I am also a fan of David Cook, and I really like his more rock orientated music, some of which wasn't on the cd but he did it on tour. This may explain why there weren't more rock songs actually on the cd, or even of the songs that were released, because the record companies do not believe a rock song can be a hit.

I think that rock seems to be gaining a bit of popularity this year, especially with Kings of Leonand Paramour being so popular. It might be that I'm listening to music more, but it seems like there is more that I like. I mainly like classic and alternative rock. I also like Muse, and can see Adam doing that type of rock, which he touches on in this cd. Before this past years a lot of the alternative bands that were out were interchangeble to me.

I do think that if Adam had tried to do more of a rock cd, it might have been sucessful being that the rock songs he did on the show were well liked. If he wanted to do something different, that's his choice over what kind of artist he wants to be. I do really like some songs on his cd, and I love him and his voice.

mr: Yes, I see your point. Even Adam has said that Neil is very cynical. His cyncism could be derived from numerous experiences: 1) When in CA, he worked in a dead-end job after college; probably a mindless position for someone who needed more challenge. 2) As a poli sci major, he has been frustrated with the government for many years. 3) His emotional age needs to catch up with his intellectual brain. 4) His perceived personna: negativeneil. 5) For such strong convictions, he is still very young.

BTW, his blog has become very popular (because of Adam), and he has gotten responses, probably similar to yours. Some have advised if he wants a career in journalism... this is what you need to think about. He actually was very receptive to some, and I'm sure he is taking those to heart.

BestAI- I wasn't saying Neil wasn't intelligent or knowledgable! He most certainly is! But, and this is my own personal opinion, I believe that in order to really create, you have to be able to let go of your cynicism a little- because cynicism is a mask- and art and truth cannot emerge when you're hiding behind a mask.
That's what I mean when I say "teenagerish". Definitely not stupid! Just hiding a little- and venting out with lots of negativity, not always justified...

That is, btw, one of the things I love about Adam so much- he is determined to really experience things, to be open and positive and exposed- and therefore his ability to really create is optimal...
Yes, he loves dressing up- but it's always with a wink and not too seriously, and he'll immediately strip down and be himself again later.

And please please don't get me wrong! I'm not dissing Neil! I really like him, and reading his stuff, like I said. Nothing wrong with a little constructive criticism though, I think (hint: I was given the same advice myself a few years back and it has done wonders to improve my creativity in what I was doing then, so I think it works...)

MR - I agree, Neil could grow up just a bit. I agree, it is fine when you are young, but then you need stop with the hostility.

BestAI - Neil is obvioulsy very smart/witty and does write well, however he is way too cynical and sometimes even hostile to those who have differening opinions. I prefer open dialog/discussion that might include all sides. They used to call it debate. Analyze and discuss topics and then decide your own point of view. But no hostility.

Yet, I briefly met neil, and though he might have been toasted he was very warm. Im sure, just like the rest of us when we are young --- he is finding his way.

Oh, I really like Neil’s writing too! I think he really has a way with words, and has real potential to be a writer, journalist, etc. I was merely stating my little piece of criticism, that I think sometimes, not always, his comments are bordering on teenagerish naysaying… if that makes any sense to you… but, yeah, he’s written some awesome blogs before!
I loved his recap of the AI performance, or his description of a very unsuccessful night with some girl… too funny!

And I totally missed Venus with a penis! Man, those interviewers were drunk, weren’t they? lol
I don't understand the teenagerish reference. Neil's writing and vocabulary is much more sophistated than a teenager. Adam has said, when asked about Neil, that he is really, really smart, and knows a lot about a lot of things. I think his expertise is in politics (Poli Sci major). Neil is an excellent writer (and speller, ha!) and quick witted with pen, whereas Adam is quick witted verbally. Neil has said Adam has a gift for speaking, which many reporters have mentioned after interviewing him.

I have nothing to say about the interview that hasn't already been said. One of the best ever. Lyndsey did a great job focusing on the music, but with a less articulate interviewee it wouldn't have come off nearly as well. He's just a fabulously articulate & savvy guy.
