I want Adam Lambert and Adam Levine to do some little youtube
video skit about the media and public getting their names mixed up all the
time. I think they’d both be good sports about it, and it would be hilariously
awesome (well, at least in my mind. :-) )

I’m actually more afraid of Adam getting half-assed support for a third album than of him getting dropped altogether.  Album sales notwithstanding, there is still interest in Adam – hence him getting opportunities like the VH1 hosting gig and international concerts in large venues.  I have a reasonable degree of confidence that RCA recognized that “Trespassing” was a strong album.  The label might not be so eager to drop him and allow him to find a home at another label, and possibly break through and earn big money there.

I remember when Adam was mentoring on “Majors and Minors”, he made a point of stressing the importance of networking and leaving a good impression on those with whom they would be working – that opportunities can easily come from such connections.  It’s advice that he clearly lives, day in and day out, in his own career, and I agree that it has already paid off for him and will continue to do so.

If he’s smart, he will save a portion of the money he is getting from these overseas shows and put it into an account towards his next album.  Many of the most successful artists reinvest into their own careers.

Since I no longer “buy” music, neither I-tunes or CDs (just like I no longer buy videos or DVDs) because if I want to hear something I can find a hundred ways of accessing it, I no longer look at “sales” as being the only indicator of any Artist’s viability, staying power, or popularity…and I really don’t think I am the only one.  Rarely, are my favs the number one sellers, intense popularity at a particular time and place is not an indication, for me, that these sellers are the best thing to hit music…nor do I put a lot of store in the number ones on radio because I look at it as a very finite measure.  I can think of hundreds of recording artists that I have listened to or watched over the last few months and they aren’t number 1 with a bullet on either list.

Adam, I believe, has found his niche and is doing very, very well within those parameters.  He will probably never be teeny bopper popular (the biggest source of recording revenue) nor is he or will he be mainstream and he definitely isn’t an everyman, milk toast singer who has broad appeal because people have issues with “those who rock the boat”.

Funny thing is…I don’t really fan any of the Idols anymore….but the ones I tend to see or hear about Adam is surely among that bunch, and you can’t say that about many former Idols these days.

Yeah, my Adam fantasy is that he establishes himself as a touring act that people consistently want to see, so that he can finance his own albums.

Isn’t the concesus here that if your favourite gets dropped, it’s a good thing….

  • loveroftalent

This would be great…Would love to see them do a little rap song about it…It would be so funny..

  • loveroftalent

Loved you post, and I agree with everything you said…

  • loveroftalent

I believe this is what Adam has been doing all along..He has talked about this before about reinvesting what he makes into future endeavours…

I think Adam def has a second career going as a “personality.” He can co-host talks shows, etc. The main problem  is radio and I just don’t see much potential for him on CHR.  I think Adam can make $ touring (especially overseas). He has many loyal fans even though he may not have broad popular support.

Is RCA a good label for dance music? If not, he may be better off on a more niche label

  • YankeeFan08

That does seem to be the consensus in the Idol bubble, but IMO it’s only a good thing if there’s another label ready to sign them immediately.  IMO having no record deal is never better than being signed to a label.

  • loveroftalent

Yes that’s what I always thought before that it’s better to have another label ready to sign you.  Maybe it is just the idol bubble that think that…I don’t know much how all this works…The only thing I do know is that I beleve without a doubt that Adam will succeed without the radio support…

  • Axxxel

yeah , both artist have the same initials as well : A.L.

  • bscfan

Yeah but if the label can’t get you played on the radio, I feel like half the reason to be on a label is gone. Although it is true, the label pays for all the production and marketing, which is very nice.
