Noooooo my ears. ROTFLOL. I never liked Backstreet Boys as a teenager. I remember one of their overplayed earlier songs (I think it was “Get Down”) was at the back of my head annoying the hell out of me during a Math exam in secondary (high) school. “I Want it That Way” was a monster hit but urrgh so boyband-ish. I hope Max Martin’s track for Adam is nothing like that (other than it being even a quarter as successful)!!!! Adam though, would probably sing that song in a much better way than BSB could

It was considered by VH1 as the 3rd greatest song from the 90s. With U2′s “One” at the 2nd place and Nirvana’s “Smell Like Teen Spirit” as the #1.

I wasn’t a fan of the Backstreet Boys, but I still love that song, compared to hundreds of songs released by boy bands, this was a great single and a really big hit, which is what Max Martin does best.

This is funny because for one reason or another I know music from the 60s, 70s, 80s and post 2000, but the 90′s are a complete blank. I was pretty busy during my “blank out” and didn’t pay attention to music, but maybe I didn’t miss much?

But an Adam version wouldn’t be musak. It would have more personality, be stronger and cleaner and … no comparison. Even without the hip thrusts it would be a different song; adult, edgy not teenage pap. and hopefully a much better video.

If I can listen to “Want” followd by a chaser of “NoBo”… then I can
listen to anything if it’s from Adam.

And i agree with those who say Adam would sing it a lot better. He’d twist it and make it different, give it a new beat, and re-interpret the lyrics.

Well I’m thanking you! I love BSB and that song. At least all those guys could sing and the song focused on their vocals. I’m looking forward to their new CD in October.

If they have written a song for Adam that is half as radio friendly as this one, it will be a huge hit. Let’s face it, if we want Adam on the radio, he’s not going to be able to go glam and glitter.

Oh, Valentin, just no. Boy bands = pop pablum for me, for you. Eeesshh.

And, ok, maybe Adam could make that song sound good, much like he did with Want and No Bo, but why do we even need to go there?

So I will now take solace in some truths that I know. Max Martin has the ability to make a hit. Great. there are other opinions in the mix besides his. Good. It’s Adam. The man makes songs that I would even care about sound amazing. I have now successfully talked myself out of a panic attack about this particular collaboration.

About Aimee Mayo, I think we have to understand her. In one of her twittered she mentioned that Adam’s voice has woke her up again as a songwriter after a very long time. So I guess she’s going thru a period where she didn’t have any ideas to write good songs and i guess as soon as she heard Adam’s beautiful voice all the ideas just popping up. Adam’s voice also gave ideas to RedOne that made him call the show producers.

I really like my flaming headdress. I donned it this morning as soon as I woke up. Along with squeeing out loud occassionally. It’s Saturday after all.

After every season of Idol, i’m normally really interested to see how eager I am for an Idol’s debut album to come out. I remember still being most excited for Kelly’s, mainly because she was the first person i really thought was incredible that i loved listening too, and I was floored to see an actual reality star NOT disappear into the abyss once their show was over. After her it was Clay- mainly because his voice again, immaculate. Fantasia and diana i was mildly excited over. Then Elliot i was about medium-high excited for. Not much til archie then, which i was probably second most excited for after kelly….

But i can say, after reading all these things about Adam’s album and the 2012 song…and after seeing him on Idol, I have to say he takes the Ultimate Cake – im dying with anticipation. Literally. Someone call 911. It just makes me sad for the future of Idol and (potentially) X-Factor because finding another Adam talent would be like lighting striking twice. And im enjoying this anticipation because i rarely feel this way about upcoming music. But stranger things have happened… I just hope the album can top Thriller, or else its a failure. (joking joking…) But seriously, its gunna be amazing.

Have been without internet at home for about 2 months so have only been able to read the stories and not the comments at work. Just wanted to say that I sure have missed you guys. You never fail to entertain.

I plan on checking out their album when it comes out. And I own Take That’s comeback album “The Circus” as well. My musical tastes run very wide, and I never had any prejudice against one type of music or the other, apart from reality TV singers ofcourse which I always abhorred. But even that prejudice has been broken down by Adam.

In the wise words of Tom Petty, “The waiting is the hardest part.” I’m wondering why dates and an actual snippet of music leaked for Kris, yet for Adam, we can only piece together little comments from Twitter (tweats? twats?). Maybe making us wait to “unwrap the whole package” before hearing ANYTHING is all part of the marketing plan for Adam? I mean, part of his appeal is his surprise factor. I noticed that during Idol, when spoiler leaks came out, it was rare to find Adam’s song selection among the lists(and when it was, the song listed was usually wrong), so maybe they’re just purposely being really good about keeping a lid on his single info., too. I’m sure I’m overthinking it all, but the suspense is starting to drive me a little nutty!

And that was pretty much Backstreet Boys in a nutshell. Catchy. Nice to look at. Nothing deep. Nothing (usually) horrendous, but nothing great.

My biggest gripe with BSB was their earworm songs that were overplayed in shopping centers, radios, so much so that they even infested my brain during my GCE O level preliminary mathematics examinations. But I guess that’s kinda OT in this thread. I’d better stop here before I get into trouble with MJ.

I just really think Adam can take any lyrics and make them sound uniquely his, so I’m really not worried about it. I mean, think of how different NoBo sounds sung by Adam than it does by Kris. Same lyrics, two completely different vibes. His take on “Crazy” is also quite different from the original, yet is still crazy-good sung in his style.

I never got into the boy band thing, I think I perceived them as too formulaic and lightweight at the time. But I can’t argue with the fact that they had catchy-as-hell songs that sold insane numbers. And they can sing.

I think that you’re right. Anticipation and surprise or, in Adam’s case, shock and awe will work. As long as his first single doesn’t stray too far from what he did on AI and the tour, they know it will go down well. They don’t need to test the waters. Stuff that’s further out of the box will wait.

Not right away, anyway. My partner had never seen the initial Adam auditions, so we had a little utube party last night with BR and RWY. No eyeliner, no glitter, no nail polish. Just nice vocals, polite behavior and a true belief in himself.

It got him in the door and then he began to pull out all the tools in his fiery arsenal of happiness making through song and performance and slowly but surely he gathered in a huge fan base by being incredibly versatile and very, very interesting. By tour time, his intense glam glitter covered set was welcomed everywhere he went, all but two reviews spoke well of him, his set, his performance power.

I have no doubt that he will continue to use these skills now that Idol is over and he is in the world of making music as a solo artist. Slow build to pull people in with that amazing voice and then pour on the glitter! top with flaming headdresses and some fire dancing, some leather, feathers and studs and we’re off!

It just makes me sad for the future of Idol and (potentially) X-Factor because finding another Adam talent would be like lighting striking twice.

Oh, I’m sure Idol will be able to find somebody to finish second next year!

So he did have a gig, and I would be inclined to think it was a private party as it was not advertised (not even one tweet by Adam or Drake). Being in NO, it was desirable since Drake lives there part of the time (or so it says on his twitter page).

Maybe… I don’t really know enough about marketing to know what the better strategy is, and I’m sure different strategies are used for different entertainers. A lot of internet interest was generated when the dates were “leaked” for Kris, though, so I find it interesting that, if this is, indeed, part of a big plan, they seem to be using suspense to generate interest for Adam. My concern is that while this might work for those of us who are already Adam fans waiting with bated breath, I can’t imagine that it would have any impact on those in the general population who doesn’t know who he is or are indifferent.

Also, it’s good to get an idea about what a songwriter has done in the past, but it may not indicate what they would do for a different artist or for one that inspires them or for a song that doesn’t need to establish them and put the first few scraps of dinner on the table. If we’re gonna get worried about past track records, perhaps we should start with Aimee. Listen to her country stuff; the genre where she’s had most of her success. Her pop stuff is better but … she’s chosen to go the Murcurial Led Zeplin route for Adam? Quite a departure from her usual fare. Less so than Max and the BSB translated to something for Adam. But still Adam and his team have chosen her song. She must have pulled off quite the bait and switch and, I bet that others will too. How often do they have an artist that is so different from the rest?

Watching the BSB video makes me SO EXCITED just thinking about Adam’s first video from his upcoming CD.

My concern is that while this might work for those of us who are already Adam fans waiting with bated breath, I can’t imagine that it would have any impact on those in the general population who doesn’t know who he is or are indifferent.

He has gotten more than the lion’s share of mainstream media buzz (USA Today, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly). People know that he will be releasing an album on November 24th. I don’t see why knowing the single release date makes a difference.

I also really don’t think that Kris’ single release date generated a ton of buzz. If it did, I totally missed it.

Okay, that was bad. The danger being labeled “boy band” is illustratedhere loud and clear. Where do you go after that? Are they now a “man band?” How can they change their sound and yet retain enough of it to keep fans and add new ones? That vid certainly didn’t do it for me.

And– those citizen vein performances are priceless! I had to laugh, though. They’re in what looks like a smoky cellar… the musicians look like typical grungy, hairy rockers.. and there’s our glittery boy ADAM in the midst of it all– looking clean and sparkly and very, very sweet– despite the rocker face he’s got going.
He sounded divine. And looked even better.

If that party gig is half of what’s described … it’s one bizarre birthday party. But if it puts you in your boyfriends home town, where you can visit some friends and make a penny towards buying a new home outright … I guess it would be worth leaving the studio where you were recording your first CD for rabidly impatient fans … except that we the rabid fans weren’t invited … and may grow restless. I want him to sing at my next birthday party … songs from said first album.

Regarding this rumor, I find it very hard to believe he could possibly have had time to create, much less recreate, ANYthing remotely resembling an Idol set OR line up a cast of look-alikes when he just got to town that day and has been working on his CD all week (unless the rich party-throwers did it for him thinking it would be cool instead of majorly cheesey, but then why the conflicting reports of him being spotted in a bar?).

That’s probably all very true, redbarns. Good points. I think the combination of being an avid fan and hanging out in these threads can sometimes skew my view of the general population and what they might be thinking. I guess I never really thought before about what all goes into releasing a single or album and am just wondering how they arrive at the strategies they do.

redbarns, I think your right, there wasn’t a lot of buzz about Kris single dropping. I think his PR people tried to generate some, but they screwed up with having him release a cover song first. He’s getting more coverage for releasing a cover than the actual song. I hope when Adam’s single drop that those two dreaded words are not applied to it “wordy and catchy”. I think anyone who like pop or rock music knows when his cd is coming out. He’s received so much media press, that RCA doesn’t have to spend a lot of money promoting his new song and album. All they have to do is release the song and see how it sells. If your song is good, you shouldn’t have to do a whole lot to sell it. But having said that, I want to see Adam every where talking about his music and maybe singing one of his new songs. Can’t wait to see him on The tonight show, david letterman , Ellen and OPRAH! He would be so terrific on Oprah, all she would have to do is ask a few questions and simply let him talk.

Guys freaking out about Adam supposedly showing up for a party…it’s a ruse. There’s an Adam impersonator, early to mid thirties, who was in the press after being hired for a party a while ago. He pretends to be Adam Lambert, sings some (horrible renditions) of songs, takes pictures, etc, though it’s not his day job. If he really did get $60000 for the gig, then he might not even need one at this point.

@bridgette12, I hope Oprah has him on earlier, but he would be perfect for her birthday show, since it’s his birthday too.

Also, he is such a great example of everything she has been preaching all these years: being true to yourself despite adversity, nurturing your gifts, rising above prejudice, not giving up, conducting yourself with integrity and having the courage to embrace your individuality without shame or apology.

The DonorsChoose is also a great story, as she is a huge public education advocate. Not to mention, she and Gail love themselves some power singers.

Well, he didn’t need any practice to re-create his Idol tour set. And MAYBE he performed to a pre-recorded track. Or whoever put the party together provided him with a band. It IS the Big Easy, there is an excess of excellent musicians. And YES I CAN see him taking a break for a PAYING gig. Because THAT is GUARANTEED money when whatever payout HE’s going to get from his album is NOT.

Recording artists are the LAST to get paid from album sales. They make their money from gigs like that, touring, merchandising, endorsement deals, etc…

These private parties are the unspoken dirty little secret of the celebrity world. They ALL do it. Especially the Idols. I remember in Season 6 Sanjaya was hitting the bat mitsvah circuit to make some extra cash.

ETA: Another dirty little celebrity secret – big name celebrities doing cheezy commercials in foreign countries (usually in Japan). The money is HUGE and the effort is minimal.

Susan M, Adam and Oprah would be a fantastic interview. She would get great ratings and he would be probably one of the most interesting interviews she had ever done. Your right she would love the fact he got involved with the Donors Choose program. She love helping children and she would love the angle he is helping kids in the United States. You hear all the time about celebrities helping kids overseas, but not enough of them help our own kids. The biggest plus for her, is that he’s an unbelievable singer and some delicious “eyecandy”. I couldn’t help that last part, he is gorgeous.

Yeah, she’s had other Idols on the show. Season 2 the Top 3 (Clay, Ruben and Kimberley – I know cause I was THERE for that one!). She’s had Carrie Underwood and David Cook on her show performing. She’s also had Jennifer Hudson on for an interview and to perform when “Dreamgirls” was coming out.

I’ve read that a lot of musicians record in New Orleans. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Adam was actually working, maybe in a writing or recording session, and invited Drake to come with for some R&R. Helps that Drake lives or lived there — probably has a lot of friends they could hang/party with.

Max Martin is probably the biggest hitmaker of the past decade, so yes he wrote some good songs too (he also is responsible for most of Britney Spears discography).

I agree with Adam doing what he’s told, I can easily believe the private gig, but I find the impersonator bit a huge stretch.
Let’s not forget, that this is a thirdhand account, with a lot of the game telephone involved.
We had a second hand account of a mob and a backstreet exit yesterday that turned into shaking hands and friendly, went upstairs today. So I would keep my salt shaker handy on the impersonator bit.

Oprah comes on when I’m at work. So I don’t really have time to watch it. I really don’t watch much t.v. anymore, outside of sports, a couple of shows I like and of course AI…

And its not like she does not know who he is…When she had Simon on and asked him who he thought was going to win…he said Adam…and she acknowledged his choice by saying Adam as if she was well aware of who he was and his talent….IMHO…So I don’t think it is out of the possibilities and if his album winds up being successful I could see this being a strong possibility. Being the runner-up and openly gay and still having a successful album would be right up Oprah’s alley. (Though I think Ellen would get him first)

Well I think right now the only thing we can be sure of is that Adam is in NO. Anything else who knows. I just can’t figure out why he would, after flying all over the country for the past 10 days, fly back across the country to simply hang out at a bar and maybe go to a Journey concert. I would have to say it was career related otherwise it just makes no sense to me.

If you have any doubt, you can find Brad Pitt’s Japanese commercials on the internet if you dig around. They tend to be funny, but its even more amusing to realize HOW MANY he’s done. And this is a guy who probably would NEVER do a commercial these days in the US, or even Europe.

My biggest gripe with BSB was their earworm songs that were overplayed in shopping centers, radios, so much so that they even infested my brain during my GCE O level preliminary mathematics examinations. But I guess that’s kinda OT in this thread.

I had to sit GCE O level exams in high school. You bring back so many memories with that mention. Will go back OT now.

I think you are confusing Adam with the winner of American Idol who is beholden to 19 for certain “appearances and projects” whereas Adam didn’t get the winners contract and is probably signed to a standard management deal that any artist would be signed to. Also, Adam isn’t an indentured servant and can accept or turn down any offer that comes his way, regarless of how 19 feels about it.

I just giggle at this notion that these artists are treated basically like mindless puppets, forced to shuffle to and fro at the whim of 19.

Well time off to me doesn’t encompass spending several hours in airports and on planes for a couple of days in a city across the country especially when he’s going to be back on a plane in the near future to promote his single and CD. To each their own though but the original tweet at LAX said he had a gig in NO.

clearone: Well I think right now the only thing we can be sure of is that Adam is in NO. Anything else who knows. I just can’t figure out why he would, after flying all over the country for the past 10 days, fly back across the country to simply hang out at a bar and maybe go to a Journey concert. I would have to say it was career related otherwise it just makes no sense to me.

Well, Mika is playing The Bourbon Pub this weekend.

I read in the newpaper yesterday about the annual “VooDoo” Ball being in NOLA this weekend. I don’t remember if it was for charity or what did not pay much attention to the article. So looks like Adam was part of the entertainment at this event. BTW if anyone has ever been to NOLA there are alot of VooDoo shops that sell potions, voodoo dolls and other “junk”. Ever since “Katrina” I stay away from NOLA – too much crime and city corruption.

Coming in here too; the blog is from “Kim’s Blog” on the web site. Upon further searching it’s written by singer songwriter Kim Fransson. He said he was working with Desmond Child.

Oops. I see what I did wrong. The adjustable knot was still in it; I just slid it together so it looked like one knot. Thanks. I kinda wish it was twice as big so I can wear it lower, but I guess that would be triple the price (altho I’m worth it). For those who have not received theirs, it is a little bigger than a quarter. I wear it choker length, but it does get more attention that way, and people aren’t looking at my boobs.

He’ll definitely do the late-night circuit and the daytime talk shows (View, R&K, Ellen), Oprah’s not automatic, but it’s not at all far-fetched (as multiple Idols and runners-up have been on her show) and she has a HUGE worldwide audience. Any author, entertainer, athlete in the world would give their right arm to be on “Oprah,” even if they are as big as Elton or McCartney.

Say what? I watched The View nearly every day last year and I never got the impression that either Sherri or Elisabeth couldn’t stand him. From what I could gather Barbara barely watched Idol.

I don’t know if Gaga has been on Oprah’s couch, but when she was on The View she mainly just performed. They do really short segments for the most part, as long as they don’t bug him about the gay thing I’m fine with it. I don’t think it’s appropriate to ask personal questions that would be considered in bad taste if the guest were heterosexual. Put the shoe on the other foot: When did you realize you were attracted to the opposite sex? When was your first heterosexual experience? How will being heterosexual affect your career? Do you believe in heterosexual marriage? See how dumb it sounds!

It could be that this sone is a Andreas Carlsson-Desmond Child song (see headline thread for lengthy discussion) produced by Max Martin. Retro rock with some new beats and a lighter Max Martin tone. Well I am being very optimistic. And there is no reference to Max Martin co-writing anywhere, just listed as an “Involved artist” on the Cheiron Studios site. And, based on Adam’s tweet, I think Max Martin produced the song (even if he gets a songwriting credit). And Andreas co-wrote it with someone else. Adam’s tweet:

I added ROF, WLL and Mad World to a playlist one night when they were all at my home. ROF had them all clamoring’ ¦’ Wow! Who is that?’ ’ ¦’ Cool song’  ‘Who is that?’ 

I showed them some vids and even played the ‘Brigadoon’  clip. They were blown away and now have Adam tunes on their iPods. They really want to hear what Adam’s album will sound like.

I mentioned that Adam was gay and they all gave me the’ ¦yeah, so?…look. Needless to say, it made me very happy on all counts.

Nice mischa. This has been generally my strategy as well. I even have a playlist titled “Adam for friends” and another titled “Adam with friends” a fun mix of lots of my fave songs with plenty of Adam thrown. It’s pretty effective.

My Idol moment: I was at an outdoor jazz/blues fest in the South End of Boston today (was excellent, but very crowded). One of my friend’s friends, for some inexplicable reason (maybe it was in a program? I think it was) mentioned Sanjay. Apparently, Sanjaya (or his sister) goes to Berklee College of Music (the event was sponsored by the college). I snickered a bit, said yes, he had made the tour that year, and that he was energetic but not a particularly strong singer, then noted that I was going to see Cook next month. He said, cool, and asked if I had been to the Tour this year. I said yes. My friends’ eyes rolled, as they are tired of hearing about my…interest in Adam. Apparently talking about SANJAYA is okay, however. Heh.

SO COOL on WLL being played in a stadium of 90,000 sports fans! (Ironic, too, given Adam’s lack of interest in or knowledge of anything sports, including but not limited to Michael Vick and professional football). I cannot believe I do not hear MW anywhere. Yes please do! I had a feeling that he was working down there. AAAHHH! Here, please. And why is he going to Lafayette?

Well, I’m all caught up now.

My friends (ages 24-31) all like NKOTB and BB (I, at 46, missed all of this; I was listening to other sorts of music, like U2 and REM, and them the grunge scene; I did have to listen to Madonna and Bon Jovi when I was a djay from 85-86 professionally, but let’s not go *there*). I think it’s funny that BB are a *man* band, but the single is awright. And didn’t NKOTB (OKOTB, really) record an album last year that tanked?

Anyway…I trust that Adam will only put out strong material. He is a pretty firm professional; he did what he wanted to do (I would guess, flaming headdress excluded) during the Tour to rave reviews, so I would be surprised if he released schlock. I wonder who leaked Kris’s LLWD and why Adam’s had not been (when, in fact, a number of ppl have heard at least a few of the tracks). Is there some sort of cease and desist order? And what about TFM? I keep going to the 2012 website: NADA. I am still baffled, not so much about TFM but about other songs. Not even a tiny taste. Why do I stilll feel that Strut has a good chance of being the first single?

I am NOT an Oprah fan, but God knows she will give Adam huge exposure if he’s on there (look what she has done for authors she chooses for her book club). And b/c of his charitable work, I can absolutely see her asking him to be on.

Re the private party…..my friend that attended the Memphis concert with me (we are both from NO) is facebook friends with another fan from NO who attended the private party and has facebook pics up but I am not her friend so I haven’t seen these yet……reportably Adam was flown in to perform at a private party at a Hotel in NO….and was paid 60,000 and given an additional 10,000 dollars….there were impersonators for other Idols and reportably pictures of the Paula and Randy lookalikes with Adam….i have requested her to be my friend so I can see this with my own two eyes…

What were Streisand’s numbers going to be if she hadn’t appeared on Oprah the other day? And not only older acts appear on Oprah, she had Jay Z last week, she’s had many mainstream folk as well.

Every now and then she does a show with several up and coming artists, she’ll have like 4 or more and they’ll each have a segment, this is made for Adam. There is so much to like about Adam, and they have alot in common, he read the Ekhart Tolle (sp) book which she heavily featured last season. She is a huge proponent of gay rights, she loves the big theatrical singers, hell Adam is the personification of the teachings from the church of Oprah, I guarantee she would love him, he will charm the pants of of her, and it will be ratings gold. If Gail fall for him too, then he will be king, and will be featured on more than one show. Oprah is the only show besides Lettermen, that I would really like to see Adam on. The other stuff is just par for the course Lettermen would be big as he does alot of under the radar people too, and a Lettermen get is good because he doesn’t do idols often until they are big.

The only event I see for today is “Downtown Alive”. That could be an interesting cultural event. Cajuns and downtown Lafayette. Lafayette is a small town compared to LA, but cajuns like to party. Adam may learn to zydeco.

I think they all want to be selected because I just think based upon Adam’s choices, vocal skill, ability to improvise will improve anything that is thrown his way. Okay…… I have been lurking throughout the summer immensely enjoying all the tour reviews, vids, conversation, intelligence, and humor that Mj’s Blog have provided. I am a HUGE Adam fan and am old enough to be his mother. As a matter of fact, I have a son who is exactly Adam’s age. I would love to meet Leila. I’m sure she and I would become fast friends!
I want to say that I found the above statement very insulting. Age discrimination is just as bad as being homophobic. For the first time in my life I actually voted on AI. I also plan to be first in line for Adam’s CD and concert tour — can’t wait for both!!! Please don’t minimize the “power” of Adam’s “middle-age female fan base”. We can be pretty strong and powerful. Having said all of that, I would prefer to see Adam on Ellen rather than Oprah anyway. I know that Ellen loves Adam — not so sure about Oprah!

The ontd_ai girls were going cray cray over the Adam Storm thing a few nights ago, and,yes, it’s the supposed media blitz that’s heading our way soon, if elephant1212 is correct. Funny, though, that name is no longer associated with a twitter account. I’m pretty sure that was a twitter name. So who knows?

I really have no idea since I’m one of the the ones that has been ignoring popular music for the last decade or so… I just assumed that when they released a single nowdays that it was digital only. What on earth does a CD of a single cost? The production and distribution costs seem too high for what you could charge for it?

Bowie1 — I took probably 300+ shots of Adam at the Indy and Columbus shows; much fewer in Cleveland. I have a continuous shutter and would just hold it down for stretches at a time, while I was trying to watch the show too (ha). I’ve learned to do both at once.

Also, this news does seem to confirm elephant1212′s tips because “picking” it implies that there are at least two songs (maybe more) under consideration. She said there were three and they were all upbeat and catchy (pop rock).

Very slow today. Confirmed by Adam himself that he is in NO for the weekend. What he’s doing there, besides showing up at a Bar and having a good time seems murky to me, although there may have been a private party involved. Tweets by the very excited Aimee Mayo that suggest a song will be picked Monday as the single.

We are all fervently praying for some sort of tuneage soon before our flaming headdesses explode.

I’m going back to read, but if anyone can summarize, that would be awesome.

I heard AO was trending #AdamStorm, or maybe AdamCast, which consists of a lot of AO folk. I got a tweet saying it was on tonight but don’t remember from who. Definitely not an ontd_ai production but it would be nice if they helped.

I’m no expert on how singles are released, but it has been my experience that a single from a projected CD gets released to radio and the internet and gets played, hopefully many many times to get people excited for the CD when it drops. When the entire CD drops, that’s when you see it on the shelves. Rarely do you see a physical CD for a single.

iluvai, yes, the teasing is a drag, but I’m just glad Adam’s song is being used in any way. I loved the show. Haven’t watched it for a second time. I saw a fan thread this morning flailing about the “Adam scene” at the end. I would have never imagined that coming. LOL!!

Impressive with the Japanese preorders. I just checked amazon.co.uk and the CD is now listed as no 947, so it’s climbing the chart . I then did a search for Kris’s CD – it does not look like they are going to release there in the same way as Adam’s. I mean it can be ordered but it is listed as an import (release date 11/17) and the price is much higher ( £16ish) – I couldn’t find a chart ranking either. Does anyone know what that is about?

ETA: @Blondie: besides the number it says “sales rank”, so I’d assume it was actual sales (or in this case preorders).

ETA2: checked Allison’s status as well. She has the same status as Kris (import, higher price, 12/1, no sales rank). The reason I’m noting this is that I don’t really know what the difference between import and apparent national release is. Import looks like it’s available from the US drop date – wouldn’t that be preferable? Or is it perhaps because they are going to give Adam’s a real promotion, which could explain the two weeks delay irt the US drop date?

Yes, Adam is such a gifted universal artist.
But let me add a few thought, most Japanese are not bound by those Bible ethics, Christians are rare here in Japan.
Also we have Kabuki, traditional Japanese play, where the men actors play and dance women role with heavy make-up and beautiful kimonos.
So we have no allergy against men’s make-up and gay things.
We can appreciate true ability open-heartedly, IMHO.

Well, thinking of today’s economic situation in Japan, I’m afraid the CD market in Japan might be so small that the ranking of Adam’s is going up so rapidly without any particular marketing, or someone at IDF said that Chinese people may do pre-order at amazon.co.jp because there are no pre-order at Chinese amazon.

This may be a stretch, but I wonder if the reason it isn’t on Amazon US is because of Hi-Fi. Under the pic of Adam they have on there now it says RCA release, but according to the message board below it, it used to say Wilshire records. I wonder if there is a legal problem there? I know. I am bored and tinhatting.

Doesn’t seem logical to me. Obviously, it’s intentional that they do not have it up for pre-sale yet. I’m thinking that they are waiting for the promotion to begin so the numbers can climb rapidly during the Adam storm. I am really happy that things are taking time. I don’t want them to rush anything. I am keeping a small (very small but still existant!) hope that Adam will have some say in the production of the song tracks (I know MJ is rolling her eyes at me!) based on the fact that he has cleared his schedule after the tour to focused solely on recording. If he was only laying voice tracks and being uninvolved with the rest he would have time for doing promotion and other things. Am I being naive?

readon, I agree with you about Kris. And about waiting. The competition is over, and the two of them are practically polar opposites in terms of style, so it really shouldn’t matter, but it does. They’re still the guys from AI, and I can’t see Adam NOT overshadowing Kris. He’s done so since the tour began just by being Adam. I was not surprised his album was set to debut a week later, and I’m not surprised that Kris’s team rushed out a single to ensure he had SOME publicity before the storm broke, even if that single had to be a cover, and even if he’s going to be out of the country next week.

That is exactly what I’m wondering. I’m in Denmark, not the UK so obviously I have no idea if there has been any kind of promotion. Perhaps the majority of the UK/European fans haven’t been aware of the fact that the album was available before now. It might be possible that a lot of fans stopped looking at the internet when the show ended. Now we’re entering the autumn where the new music comes out so perhaps more people are checking for updates more frequently? Or perhaps a jump from 12000 to 500 only signifies a few hundred albums ordered, which I suppose could be explained by multiple orders from a few overly dedicated fans or a fanboard that recently directed its members attention to Amazon?

I really have no idea, but my best guess is that now we are closer to the drop date so more people might be looking.

Saga, I’ll go with you on that. After all, there is always hope. I wonder – and this is a huge question mark I know – that since Adam is going for such a different sound/performance style (by all accounts), they might be allowing more of his input than previous contestants, because he has repeatedly proven his instincts about his own abilities have been dead-on almost all of the time. Now again, same was said about Cook (and since I wasn’t around for that, I only know what people have said here, but his album, though very successful was considered very safe.)

But Adam with his stage show potential and cross-genre abilities, needs to have some input, because he’s been his own visionary from the beginning. They let him do his thing on tour and look how that worked out. There’s always hope. *crosses fingers*

Another thought: From various videos, you can get a sense of his collaboration style – he’s always OTT reverent and respectful of who he’s working with, but he still, with positive enthusiasm, gets his ideas across. That’s got to be tough to ignore. And because of his depth of experience, TPTB are going to find it a little tough to just pat him on the head and say, “We’re the pros here, you just shut up and sing.”

(In my hopeful opinion, for all humanity.)

I have no idea where numbers might be found – but the ranking charts I’ve seen include released albums where I’d assume numbers would be available. If that is the case, then it should be possible to estimate numbers for the pre-sale albums – and then why not have them available as well?

@Miss Chaos: I don’t think Adam has told us, and I don’t think he will. Also, it might be a moot point after the tour where they all seemed to grow closer.

I have been in the amazon.com list to be notified when Adam ´s album is available since July. But today, I read that it was available for pre-order in Amazon UK, so I went there and ordered 3 albums. I will increase my order near Dec 7 when they will deliver my orders. I will also download from iTunes if available here in Spain.

You need a certain number of sales units to be ranked. Kris’ album was just added to the Amazon UK site last week (I think.)

Just like Adam’s album is unranked on Amazon France (riht now).

Thanks Q3 – I thought maybe the “import” status disqualified it from being listed in some versions of Amazon. Hmm.

Hmm maybe the sudden jump in rankings is due in part to all the buzz about his possible single release next week/2012 song unveiling. On Facebook he’s got close to 350k fans and twitter was all abuzz about the #adamstorm. People have been posting stuff on AimeeMayo’s tweets on Facebook and there’s been quite a bit of flailing on Facebook. One cannot underestimate the power of social media, methinks.

There’s also been quite a bit of press on his album release in November, so it’s entirely possible that people are by coincidence seeking out his album all at the same time this weekend.

Ranks are relative, so unless Adam’s Japanese fans go to sleep earlier than other fans, it should have any effect. But it will probably dwindle soon because no one has heard anything from the album.

ETA: Some buyers may wait to see if there is a Japanese version — because they typically have special bonus tracks or different tracks. Also some Americans buy the Japanese releases of albums to get these tracks.

The other four are my friends… AI is not popular here and we can only watch it in the internet. I have been a loyal reader of this blog since last year (DC fan also) but I’m not comfortable with my english too, so basically I read and enjoy all the wonderful conversations quietly (thank you, thank you Mj for this site!!).
But today I realized something and I need your help! I’m 100% sure that Adam’s album won’t be available in itunes.gr or in greek shops because here he’s basically unknown. Can I buy it through amazon.uk? Help me because I really want to have it as soon as it’s out and legally…
