Adam Lambert Unveils “Better Than I Know Myself” Artwork (Photo)

Adam Lambert unveils the cover of his next single, “Better Than I Know Myself” set to be released within the next couple of weeks.  The song is co-written by Claude Kelly.

The album cover was shot by Adam’s friend, photographer Lee Cherry.

What do you think? Very pretty distressed background, and Adam is looking good.

Listen to a snippet of “Better Than I Know Myself”. The single has a December 20th release date.

I love it.  Adam is so handsome.  I can hardly wait until the cd comes out

  • Anonymous

Firstly, Adam is so fucking beautiful it’s unreal.  Secondly, I even like the crazy font this time around.  It goes very well with the whole vibe.  His name has a kind of graffiti feel I like which goes well with the overall vibe and styling.

HE’S SO PRETTY. And looking mighty fantabulous in that jacket.  *needz the song now*

Love the cover.  Adam looks gorgeous!  This must be Lee Cherry’s handiwork.  Well done!

I like it a lot better than the art he’s used in the past. Not fond of the way they did his name.

Adam looks mighty fine on his album cover.  He looks like a modern James Dean.

Adam looks great, but that font (his name) sucks big time. Cheap looking. Otherwise, awesome!

Congrats on the trending too! Lol. I think this was Jim’s way of saying Adam looks tasty. I concur.

@adamlambert Nice! The zipper and collar remind me of a peeled banana. Nomnomnom. Can’t wait to hear it!

  • Avari

    That is a fabulous picture!!

Font? What font? I’m too busy looking at the picture to concern myself with font! :-)

  • Anonymous

I actually like the font used for his name.   To me, it gives off kind of an eery, spooky, mystery sort of vibe.   I can see Adam going for something like this.

TBH, I wish this was his album cover!

  • Anonymous

Apparently Lee Cherry took the photo and did the graphics!

  • Anonymous

He looks really great. Yay EMA’s Queen jacket!  Thumbs up

    @leecherry: Yes, i shot @adamlambert ‘s #BetterThanIKnowMyself and CherryMultimedia.com also did the graphics/layout. :D

  • Anonymous

Wow.  Classic “tall, dark, and handsome.”  I like that in this photo nothing detracts from his amazing, beautiful features.

  • Moria Polonius

Haha, I’ve never watched a single James Dean movie but my first thought on seeing the cover art was “rebel without a casue”.

This must be Lee Cherry’s handiwork.

The cover has the same vibe as Lee Cherry’s photos from the studio. He seems to like bringing out Adam’s prettiness. I love the juxtaposition of Adam’s delicate features and the emo leather look.

  • Anonymous

Amazing cover. Adam looks stunning. His hair is just a work of art! lol

  • Anonymous

It is indeed Lee’s work. His smiley is cute.

    leecherry:
    Yes, i shot @adamlambert ‘s #BetterThanIKnowMyself and CherryMultimedia.com also did the graphics/layout. :D

  • justshootme

Do we know if Lee Cherry did the album cover also?  Hope so.

  • Moria Polonius

Thanks for the confirmation! Lee Cherry’s style does seem distinctive when it comes to photographing Adam!

  • Anonymous

    First off… Yum!

Second, are we sure that’s the same jacket from the EMA?  It looks different to me.  Then again, that’s a pretty complicated jacket and I might not have seen this particular configuration…?

  • Anonymous

Very likely. They apparently redid the album photoshoot recently, as this picture definitely didn’t come from the shoot we knew about before. Otherwise his hair would be shaved on the sides.

Thank whatever deities made him change his mind of using pictures with that style! Lol.

  • Nele621

Looks like the name was done by hand. None of the letters are the same.

It’s a different jacket. The one from the EMAs had a more full collar and label situation and was not edged in a zipper.
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/thumbnail_570x321/2011/11/adam-lambert-emas-l.jpg

  • Emmy

Wow – gorgeous cover! Nice work Lee Cherry.  Nice face Adam Lambert!  Why you people keep talking about fonts? I don’t see any fonts!!!

  • Anonymous

LOve Love Love it! And I finally noticed the freaking font & I love that too. It’s perfect.

  • Anonymous

    Lol twitter is dead.

Oh Sauli you are one lucky guy!  He has never looked this beautiful.  Promo for the sophomore album is kicking very prettily ;)

  • Anonymous

Twitter down now. LOL Was up to #2 & trending WW.

  • sagi

Love it! So glad to see the flowing hair and not the Pompadour style. (I am so over that style) He has the greatest, thickest hair and I love to see movement in it! I need to hear this song ASAP!

  • Anonymous

Seems like there’s duality at work in the photo. Looks a bit mysterious.  But the font used for his name leans toward pop art.  It’s almost like a muted, stripped down Roy Lichtenstein print, but I don’t know it they quite pulled it off.  But I’m no artist, so what do I know?  :-)

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

    Very nice. I likes!

  • justshootme

I like his hair like this, kinda reminds me of his old “cockatoo” pic from People. Glad the sideburns are back.  I’m not really ~concerned about the font.  Lol.

  • Anonymous

The one from the EMAs had a more full collar and label situation and was not edged in a zipper.

That’s what I thought. But I wasn’t sure that the leather piping wasn’t a zipper — and maybe if you zipped it a different way….

But why would Adam use the same jacket anyway, since he’s now got “too many” in his closet. :)

  • Moria Polonius

The font looks a bit as if somebody painted the name with a paintbrush.

And now I’m thinking what the cover would look like if the background included and old wall with Adam Lambert painted or sprayed on it.

  • Anonymous

    Did we crush Twitter? LOL!

  • Anonymous

Did Glamberts just broke the twitter?

  • Moria Polonius

Adam’s hair is serious business. I support its present incarnation. The photo must have been done very recently, I think?

Very likely. They apparently redid the album photoshoot recently, as this picture definitely didn’t come from the shoot we knew about before. Otherwise his hair would be shaved on the sides.

I need to remember to refresh before posting questions.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

    GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Anonymous

His hair is moving b/c all his secrets are being released ;)

  • mmb

Love the cover art. Just because he doesn’t have the shaved sides doesn’t mean that they re-did album photo shoot. 1) the single cover could be from separate, more recent photo shoot for additional promo photos and 2) they can easily just manipulate the photo to fill in the shaved sides if they didn’t like the look. Anyway. Yum!

  • askance

“Looks like the name was done by hand. None of the letters are the same”

Not really, probably just alternate glyphs to make it look more ~handdrawn. If you look closely there are repeated elements in the letters that are mirrored (for instance the As and Ms)

  • http://twitter.com/crackletlightin B

Love the cover pic of Adam!

  • Anonymous

Oh this is so pretty <3  It's getting close Adam fans!

  • ronnie

I like it, I don’t think it’s as memorable as the silver metal fingers with the chains between them and his face behind it, but it is still very nice.  There’s nothing really negative you could say about it except maybe it’s not that creative, but he looks really good.

  • Anonymous

sure did. worldwide trending up to #3 I hear lol

  • Anonymous

The letters aren’t actually fully mirrored. You can tell by the curve to the right stroke on the lower M being different from the one above and the middle line stroke on all the A’s is varied.

It’s likely an special font created with two levels of capitalization. Handwriting fonts often to this. I love font making!

  • Moria Polonius

I agree: it’s on the safe side, but it makes up in the male beauty thing. Quite a bit of female gaze there.

  • Anonymous

He looks strong but delicate at the same time.  It’s different than how males are normally portrayed. It’s really pretty.

  • Anonymous

Oh wow I love it, his hair is magick, he looks amazing. LOL that I’m so excited over a single cover that will only be seen on iTunes etc but I’m so happy that the new stuff is starting.

  • Anonymous

Nice cover art. Has a sort of James Dean 1950-ish vibe to it

  • Anonymous

Love this cover…boy, you sure can spot a Lee Cherry photo of Adam a mile away.  There is a true connection between them and it shows in Lee’s photos of Adam.  I actually love the font they created for his name, personal and yet mysterious.  I also like the way ADAM is bigger than Lambert, since this is how I think most of his fans think about him…as ADAM lambert.

  • Tess

I think that is what gives it the James Dean feel.  Pretty boys (like James and Adam) can easily capture that (for want of a better word) feminine essence to something that is very masculine without appearing fake or contrived.  Really great male models have been doing “this look” for years…it’s not easy and can look pretty weird if not done well.

  • Anonymous

He kinda reminds me of Zayn Malik in that picture, except badass. Like, “damn dude you better watch out or I’ll use my powers of glittery darkness and tear out your soul” badass. Urban-Dictionary defines it as “Ultra-cool motherf*cker”. That’s totally the vibe I get from his look.

That’s a pretty sick album cover, although the title’s font looks kinda plain. I like the Adam Lambert font (looks painted to me, which is awesome) and he looks kinda badass.

Damn this album better have some epic or dark-sounding music or some epic hard rock, something like The Show Must Go On by Queen. That album cover and that kind of song mixed together would be epic.

Cover is beautiful!  Finally I came here after trying to see it via twitter for about 30 minutes.  Tough getting in and pic wouldn’t open probably due to so many trying to open it at once.  Love the font – reminds me a bit of Michael Jackson’s Bad – wasn’t that the one with the wall in the background?  I love his expression as well – hints at something; I’m not sure what.  Thanks for posting it here so quickly!

Two thumbs up from me. I love it. I love his expression, the fonts, the background, the jacket and his hair…. his hair needs it’s own time zone!!! seriously. The music, the music needs to be here. I know it’s going to be good.

The snippet fits right in with the current pop scene. Definite hit potential.

  • Anonymous

I looooooove that snippet! Is it me or does it have a very urban feel? It may be the tempo as WWFM but other wise totally different. Damn, I love it!

  • Anonymous

I like the bass track too. I believe someone described it as a killer mid-tempo and I think that’s aptly labeled.

Can you imagine him singing it live? I am so ready.

Still having problems with Twitter, Imagine what will happen when single is released.

can’t wait for it to be released. sounds really good. it’ll probably be my favorite adam song to date, and then once the allure of it wears off, fall down slightly behind the acoustic WYWFM, which is currently my favorite of his.

  • Anonymous

OMG I just got home. That pic I can’t eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeven. And now I just listened to the snippet and it’s exactly how I thought it would sound with that high note! CANNOT WAIT *GRABBY HANDFS*

  • Anonymous

OMG…love the 30 second clip of BTIKM….great beat and bass line….Pleasantly surprised at the range shown in just this clip, potential for some amazing glory notes live.

  • CindyM

Jammasta, that’s the single cover, probably not the album cover.

  • Anonymous

They did in fact do a different shoot to get this picture b/c the photographers are different. Tony Duran was mentioned at being the only photographer at what was said to be the album shoot. So, perhaps not exactly a re-shoot, but they didn’t use a picture from that original one. Lee Cherry did this.

  • Anonymous

If Amazon crashes over this, expect a lot of folks–myself included–to be upset.  We’re trying to shop, people!

  • Moria Polonius

Well, bummer. I was prepared to love it to pieces… but I don’t. I’ll save my judgment for when I hear the whole song then.

  • HotHotHot

I love it! Who else can sing like that????

  • Anonymous

I absolutely LOVE the snippet.  Ever since I heard the demo, which I liked, I have been waiting to hear Adam sing that title hook.  It’s  been a long wait, but Adam delivers, satisfaction guaranteed!  And now I can’t wait to hear it over and over and over on the radio (along with the rest of the song)!

  • ronnie

The song sounds just like the demo, which I did not like that much.

  • Joyed

I really like the cover – they used a great photo of Adam. :)

I listened to the snippet of the single on Amazon, and musically I enjoyed listening to it (the lyrics, I kind of ignored cause they didn’t really speak to me).  I think how much I’ll like the full song will depend on how repetitive the song is – can’t wait for the leak!

Also, weirdly, it doesn’t remind me of the demo at all (which admittedly I only listened to a couple times).

  • Anonymous

Adam broke Twitter….AGAIN!!! Single cover art is TO DIE FOR!!! I immediately snagged the large, HQ one that Adam tweeted and made it my computer background. Still gotta go listen to the snippet now. Getting sooo excited!!

  • Dakota01

Love the demo!  Can’t wait to hear more.

And Adam confirms the December 20th release:

    @adamlambert
Better Than I Know Myself drops on December 20th! avail on all digital music providers. Happy Holidays!!

  • Anonymous

It has a different beat than the demo though. I dig the vibe of it, and I’m glad he’s launching everything internationally at once b/c it sounds like it’d do well in international markets.

  • Kylee

Hmm, sorry, based on the snippet, I don’t see much hit potential for that song. Its more adult contemporary. But, stranger things have happened.

  • Anonymous

    I like it!

  • Anonymous

I am a huge fan of Adam and love his voice on this song. HOWEVER, the repeatitive backbeat on this song almost drove me up a wall, and that was on a :30 sec. snippet. I hope I don’t notice it as badly on the full song …… It sounds like something AHA or Tears for Fears would have released in the 1990′s.

  • http://twitter.com/Universal_Love Universal_Love

Love the cover art picture and this is a hit song by listening to the snippet.  Can’t wait to hear the whole thing on 12/20 tues.

Listened to the snippet – such a tease!  What a voice, wow.  Cannot wait to hear the whole thing, in a much higher quality. This low res version is just not cutting it.

  • http://twitter.com/Universal_Love Universal_Love

It has a feel of Can’t Let You Go which got released on FYE European Edition and I love that song.  Can’t get enough of listening to this snippet.  Love you Adam!

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig ShreddingHalien

His vox sounded over processed on that snippet but I think that is the standard and probably normal for the genre he is marketing. Other than that, could be a good song once the whole thing is released.
DISCLAIMER: I think he has a great voice and doesn’t need all the over processing before any Glamberts tear into me:)

1990s? I have my own reservations about the song but I can’t fault the sound for not being current.

Adam has fans across the globe. They are usually not on Twitter all at the same time but he gave a heads up that this was happening and when so ppl in different time zones all made an effort to be on Twitter around the time the announcement was supposed to be made. So to answer your question…yes he does :)

Love the snippet. Can’t get enough of it.

I’ll be waiting patiently for the WHOLE song until Tuesday.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

The snippet is very low quality, only 64 kbps. Can not wait to hear the real thing!

  • YeahRight

It sounds like something AHA or Tears for Fears would have released in the 1990′s.

Tears for Fears had an album come out in the 90s and it sounded nothing like that mess.  AHA had music out years ago.  Now, I don’t know what it sounded like, but I know it didn’t sound like that mess.

  • Moria Polonius

Amazon snippets are so compressed? It’s actually a relief to hear that.

  • CindyM

The song sounds very current to me, kinda of a mixture of Bruno, Rihanna’s We Found Love and One Republic.  I can’t wait to hear a high-quality version! This version is too fuzzy.  Is it Tuesday yet??

  • Anonymous

Now, I don’t know what it sounded like, but I know it didn’t sound like that mess.

If you don’t know what it sounded like, then by admittance you don’t know what it sounded like and thus have no basis for comparison. Lol.

  • Tess

It does sound entirely different with earphones than it does coming through my computer speakers…and I’m not enough of a music expert to process how the entire song will sound based on a random snippet.  I think I will wait until I can download Tuesday morning to make a judgment on the quality of the song or its relevant sound.

  • http://twitter.com/idolfanatic44 idol fanatic

Sounds just like the demo which is not a good sign at all. This song doesn’t seem like a Top 40 pop hit but rather a moderate HAC hit.

  • Anonymous

Lol. We won’t tear you apart for speaking the truth, especially politely. His voice is overly processed, but I think it has more to do with the audio sample and compression than the actual song. The small part of the chorus is effected less.

LOL Trina.  I’m not a stan, but I did really enjoy several tracks from FYE.  I must say I’m definitely impressed with the single cover.  It gives me hope for a cool album cover (one that won’t make people afraid to buy it in the store).  I like Adam, but that last album cover was beyond weird (you can be weird if the art is good, but when the cover art is weird and not so good – that really doesn’t work.)

I don’t really ever listen to the short snippets, because I feel like I never get a good impression.  So, I’ll wait until Tuesday to decide how I feel about the actual single itself.

At any rate, I’m not going to flail (I just don’t do that!).  But, I am happy to know soon we’ll have some new music from Adam.  And, I do wish him lots of success, whether I end up buying the album or not.

I can’t tell a thing from that snippet. Sounds like it could be interesting though. Still love the cover art!

The snippet sounds so frickin AMAZING!!!!!!!!! The cover art is so frickin HOTTTTT! The best Xmas gift from Adam for me! Can’t wait to the 20th to hear the whole song! I’m flailing hardddddd!

  • Anonymous

It’s little too urban with the beat to be just a HAC hit. The Dr. Luke vibe is obvious. I don’t know if it’ll be a hit, but it sound to be in line with Rihanna and Britney type songs (production more than anything). It’s got definite ear worm potential that is necessary for Top 40.

Both HAC and Top 40 success would be great though. We’ll have to wait and see. :)

  • Anonymous

“Tears for Fears had an album come out in the 90s and it sounded nothing like that mess.  AHA had music out years ago.  Now, I don’t know what it sounded like, but I know it didn’t sound like that mess.”

OK 1980′s then. I was actually thinking of the beat behind “Shout” from 1985 by Tears for Fears, when I posted this. And for the record, not the literal backbeat, it is just that the beat behind Adam sounds to be of this era.

Hey, I loved me some Fine Young Cannibals, INXS, Billy Idol and, yes TFF and AHA back in the day. And that snippet does seem to be of that era TO ME! (But then again, I have noticed that about a few other songs on the radio recently. As they say, everything old is new again!)

  • Anonymous

This song doesn’t seem like a Top 40 pop hit but rather a moderate HAC hit.

Kind of like MKIA from Kelly, that now sits at #11 on the pop charts? lol
(That’s the same thing I read about MKIA.) Top 40 radio needs some mid-tempo songs as well as dance songs and rap collabs in their top 20 mix.

I love the cover, love the snippet, reminds me of something Bruno would sing. Very current.
The single cover gives me hope for the album cover :)

  • Anonymous

I need to hear the whole song as it is on the album or radio. I can’t tell that much from the snippet. I tend to need to hear things multiple times before I can really tell what I think. I will say that I’m not fond of the strong, repetitive back beat. I was just listening to something yesterday with that same beat and thinking how tired I am of that sound. So I would agree that must be current. Again need to hear the whole song to decide. As to whether or not it’s a hit… well needs to be on the radio and then we’ll see. Lot’s of songs hit that aren’t my personal preference.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I know what you mean I think. That kind of atmospheric/New Wave/Depeche Mode/Tears For Fears/pop-ish type of sound would actually sound good on Adam I think. A lot of new stuff actually has those elements anyway.

  • Anonymous

wow, I really like the snippet–i didn’t listen to the demo, so no comparison, but i was expecting something more wwfm-like and this seems faster.  This is more Bruno Mars-ish or like Rihanna’s We Fell in Love–that kind of up-mid-tempo that’s big right now.  I have no idea if it’ll do well, but it definitely seems like it could. :) I mostly listen to pop stations while I’m driving, and it would fit in (but stand out in good ways) well there.

And apart from that, I genuinely really like it.  Just the snippet makes me want to hear the whole song.  He sounds amazing–singles generally have the most processing, so if his voice is this awesome on the single, I can’t wait for the rest of the album. :)

  • Anonymous

And he looks beautiful on the cover, as per usual. :)

  • Dakota01

I wonder how soon we’ll get a video.  My guess is he’s already shot the video.

  • CindyM

Kind of like MKIA from Kelly, that now sits at #11 on the pop charts? lol
    (That’s
the same thing I read about MKIA.) Top 40 radio needs some mid-tempo
songs as well as dance songs and rap collabs in their top 20 mix.

If you look at POP right now, there’s Bruno with #3 “It will rain” (midtempo, not dance) and Usher/David Guetta  #4 Without You (midtempo, not dance) and Kelly with #11 Mr. Know it All (midtempo, not dance).  I like selecting a midtempo for winter, just seems right. :)

  • ronnie

I wish someone would convince them to change this single.  If he is going to underperform, I would rather him do it with a song he wrote and believes in rather than do it with some meaningless boring Claude Kelly/Dr. Luke song.

  • Moria Polonius

It does sound entirely different with earphones than it does coming through my computer speakers…

I just tried that and it really does. I can actually hear the beat clearly and enjoy it. I guess I’ll wait to hear the whole thing in the best resonating chamber that’s my car.

  • Anonymous

Nothing really seems to suggest that he doesn’t believe in this one. Personally, I’ll wait until I hear the fully song rather than a half minute to judge whether it’s boring or meaningless.  Not really enough to go on for me.

  • Anonymous

The snippet preview has been removed from Amazon. Too soon all around?

  • shell29

I’m no Adam stan (I like him, but just not a hardcore fan) but I love the single artwork-looks great!  As for the snippet, I’ll wait until I hear the full track before forming an opinion.  Looking forward to hearing the song in its entirety.

  • Anonymous

Haha, definitely NOT a sleepy ballad! :)

  • Anonymous

Exactly!  I am not saying I hate the song, nor that it will not be popular, I am just saying that the backbeat is bothering me because it competes with Adam’s voice. Now, many of the songs that employed such a repeatitive back beat did so with great succes. (“She Drive Me Crazy” is an excellent example). It made the song – perhaps that will be the case here as well. I will have to listen to the whole song to be sure.

But yes, today’s artists are surely influenced by the techno-pop of the 80′s and 90′s.

  • Anonymous

ITA! And his voice sounds amazing!

That particular brand of atmospheric sound has seen a resurgence in pop recently, so I understand your point. The 80s are very in right now more than just fashion. Lady Gaga’s most recent album is such a throw back in many ways that it’s sometime hard to tell they’re not Madonna songs.

  • Anonymous

OMG! Love the cover, love the snippet! Love Adam!

So did we break the amazon snippet??? Here it is on youtube:

I don’t think it sounds like the demo at all.

Thank you! You’re a doll for bringing that over.

  • CindyM

I think too much traffic for snippet.  Amazon doesn’t have it anymore. :(

  • Anonymous

That’s why I’d like to hear the full song at the proper kbps. Right now the back beat kind of reminds me of Already Gone.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Nice cover art and Adam looks very good.  Hard to tell from that little snippet, but the song sounds hummable (which is a good thing).  lol

  • Anonymous

Hard to stop squeezing long enough to type but YAY for a snippet and a release date and so help you jebus Adam you better mean it this time.

  • Sofa King

It sounds fantastic.   And a new era begins.

    Here it is.

    ENJOY!!!  :)

  • justshootme

His voice is divine.  And I like the backbeat.  I know I said I would be happy with just a snippet … but now I need more.  I’m verrrrry curious about the bridge.  Is it Tuesday yet?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ashetalia-Staatz/100001792695528 Ashetalia Staatz

It’s so slow and dated that it’s almost retro, hence could work on chr. It is hummable. I don’t much like it, but I like Adam, so hoping for the best. I have a feeling that he is taking a risk here, but in the weirdest way imaginable, kind of like, “let’s see how far I can go with a song that would have sounded dated in 1984.”

This is, literally, the very last thing I expected as the first single from this album.

  • GS61

The song is …meh, but he looks good on the cover. Little or no makeup, which is good.
But I LOVE the hair, especially the shaved sides …. very familiar.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ashetalia-Staatz/100001792695528 Ashetalia Staatz

Let’s pray that there IS a bridge.

  • YeahRight

No.  I listened to Tears for Fears and AHA in the 80s and that mess still sounds nothing like it.

Yes, nowadays artists are trying to go back to the 80s with their music, but it’s just not working.  I listened to 80s music.  I still listen to it to this day.  It’s not working.  And from the snippet, I’m not getting that feel.

  • Anonymous

Yep, he’s worn that close cropped to the side style in the past (most noticeably on tour last year).

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

The cover art for BTIKM single is fantastic.   Love this look, and hope the album is similar.   Can’t tell much from the snippet, but I love Adam’s voice and everything he sings so much more than other artists.  I won’t be disappointed.

    The Cover:
Love, love, love the cover (who wouldn’t ?) !!

    The Snippet:
Hmmm, I will wait for the full version before I make my final judgement.  Not what I was expecting for the first single.    Crossing my fingers on this one and staying positive that this will be a hit for him  :-)

    Yep, Tess, you nailed it.

Adam is beautiful.  The rest? Not so much.

Adam looks so sexy!!!!  I love the cover!

I loved, loved, loved the demo and I’m glad he didn’t alter it too much.  I cannot wait to hear the entire song!

  • Karen C

I love the cover, like the snippet, can’t wait to hear the rest. It kind of reminded me of Sleepwalker which was my favorite song on the last album.

The cover — Adam looks great.  The font on “Adam Lambert” is weird; it was literally the last thing I noticed on the cover, but, I guess, who cares because it’s definitely not hard to figure out whose song it is.  The song — right now, meh.  But, it’s so hard to say from such a tiny snippet

Ain’t feeling it so far.  But maybe it’ll sound better in full song.

And it doesn’t sound a bit urban.  Somewhat rhythmic, maybe.  But not urban.

Yep. The progression of his hair is well documented in fandom as people seem to be fascinated with it (a bit crazy, but what stan isn’t?). He’s gone from completely shaved (one and or both sides) to cropped to even having patterns shaved in and having the top up (short and long) or flopping a bit more. The top is more reminiscent of the Most Beautiful People’s shoot.

  • Anonymous

This is supposed to be the earthshattering song… not from this clip
Maybe the whole song will sound better as this clip sonds like he is trying to sing over the music.

  • Anonymous

The demo didn’t receive negative feedback though, for the few sites it got posted at. The reviews on the final product haven’t come out yet, really, except for the opinions of Rolling Stone and radio DJs who have heard it, which were positive.

I’m sure RCA pays attention to everything, though. We’ll have to see if radio and the music buying public supports it, but calling doom over a 30 second snippet is more than a little premature.

  • Anonymous

Meh, I’ve seen more positive than negative so far. No music would ever get released if a label dropped a song at a few negative reports. Until we get more than 1/7 of the song released, kind of hard to judge one way or the other.

  • GS61

    Like the pics.
Now if he lays off the makeup, grows a little stubble, maybe adds a blond streak….. he’d be right up my alley ;)

  • Moria Polonius

I’m not in love with the snippet, but from what I’ve seen here and on fansites there’s more positive than negative feedback from fans.

As to the RCA paying attention to “us”: just a few days ago I read an article in a movie magazine about fan and anti-fan subcultures and the conclusion was that big companies (that I would describe RCA as) love hardcore fans but ignore them since their aim is go create a product for the mainstream public. RCA run that single through a few listening parties with PDs, so I suppose they’re not going to listen to a displeased fan.

  • Anonymous

Stunning cover art & stunning vocals on the snippet. The hook is very catchy as well. I predict a world-wide hit.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S7SESS3YJTJIQGNSE7PL5YUEGQ Silas Warner

Sounds like Nickelback with a hip hop back beat. I’m confused.

  • Anonymous

Cite your sources.  The snippet is getting the feedback that all snippets and songs get when they come out.  Some love, some loathe and that rest are reserving judgment until the whole song comes out.

  • Anonymous

Love, love, love the artwork, he looks so gorgeously hot….. and love the snippit!!!!
The last 2 years of being an Adam fan has been so much fun, era 2 is coming, and I’m looking forward to the next…20 years or so!

  • Anonymous

Lol. To each their own, obviously.

He’s already done the blonde effect though (and blue and green). Though it doesn’t look good on everyone, eyes as pretty as his were made for makeup ;)

  • Tess

I wouldn’t count half a dozen comments as negative feedback…I think the positives, at least on this thread, have way out-weighed the negatives.  No artist will get 100% “excellent” ratings…if every song had to measure up to that standard we’d only get a half a dozen songs played on the radio every year.  Besides…the demo wasn’t Adam and the snippet is barely 30 seconds long that people are playing, for the most part, through phones or computers whose sound systems are suspect at best.

I would think that RCA has measured the feedback they received from the djs and radio programmers who were privy to Adam’s marketing package, as well as company insiders who have been doing this, collectively, for more years than most of us have been alive.  And since the company is still in business and they are still producing and selling millions of records every year I think their guesstimates are more spot on then a few commenters on twitter or a blog site.

I won’t judge the song till I really hear it Tuesday and will then judge it as a stand along and not in conjunction with a demo done years ago and the small snippet I heard on Amazon.  If the naysayers are “victorious” and Adam doesn’t get any radio play out of this then I will applaud them for their foresight.

  • Anonymous

Adam shaved the sides of his hair during the summer of his GN tour, which was 18 months ago. Who else is shaving the sides of their hair? Perhaps they are copying Adam?

  • Moria Polonius

Well… that would be something new? (Personally, I think it sounds Rihanna-ish, though)

  • Anonymous

The radio pd’s and dj’s who heard it all had positive things to say. I’ll take their judgment over people that heard a low quality snippet on Amazon.

  • Anonymous

Higher quality snippet with less fuzz just surfaced on AO. It’s shorter though as it’s just the chorus.

    http://www.adamofficial.com/us/news/adams-new-song-better-i-know-myself-snippet

  • Anonymous

Of course labels don’t get it right all the time, but I was excited that the Z100 djs said they’d heard great things about the single from non-label people (ie nonb-biased people) and were really excited. :) That seems to bode well.

  • larc

The demo got negative feedback, now this snippet is getting negative feedback, does RCA pay attention to this at all?

Probably not.  They likely know, as many others do, that opinions about demos and snippets really don’t tend to mean a lot.  Demos because the finished product may bear little or no resemblance to them, and snippets because they are tiny, isolated parts delivered in abysmal sonic fidelity that rarely reflect the true quality of the actual tracks.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m a little taken aback as well, but I can’t tell too much from this short clip.  I like Adam too, but I’ve sort of expected that he might be headed in a musical direction that is outside of my taste for this second album, but I felt that way for his debut album, and I liked most of the songs on that.  lol  I guess that I’ll have to wait and see.  I think that Adam needs to produce the music that he wants to produce and find his audience based on that.  I hope that all goes well for him.

  • Anonymous

Oh man! Ok I like Adam, loved FYE and was prepared to end up liking what he puts out this time around…but the snippet + the cover? I may end up becoming a full fledged Adam stan lol

Welcome…..we’ve been waiting for you, lol!

The demo got negative feedback, now this snippet is getting negative feedback, does RCA pay attention to this at all?

Yeah, cause a few negative comments on a blog is going to change someone’s artistic vision?  I can think of a good dozen songs that idol fans just knew would become hits…..and a good dozen that idol fans panned that became hits.

This is supposed to be the earthshattering song..

I’ve heard nothing of the sort from MOST rational Adam fans.  Most were just hoping for some new music.  Preferably something we could sing to, dance to, screw to, or just hum.  I am sure we will get that.  Anything else is gravy.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, the feedback overall has been really good from djs and people–again, that doesn’t guarantee anything–some songs that are hits, I get it, some I don’t–but it’s a good start. :)

  • Anonymous

WOW! So much Photoshop in one picture. No wonder the single was delayed…

Well, count me EXCITED for new Adam, whatever! But, then again, I’ve not read (m)any other comments or opinions… Just looked and listened… And, I LIKE!

And, yeah, I “liked” abbysee’s last post, too… Full of LIKE tonight… :-)

Thanks, Adam, for making me smile on an otherwise blah day~

  • Anonymous

I repeat, the activity function is so interesting.

  • Tess

I also think that many Adam fans still are looking for a song where he wails like he did when he sings old time Glam Rock…and they may also be looking for him to sing in the style of Queen and Led Zepplin.  And it ain’t going to happen, at least at this juncture.  Besides that sound not being financially lucrative right now, it isn’t what interests Adam.  So I don’t expect hard 4/4 drum beats, with blasting rhythm guitars and a deep bass echo…at least not on the album…though I think others may still think Adam is going there.

  • Moria Polonius

I had this impression too. The beat seems different or just more production?  I don’t remember the previous version well enough to compare, though.

Lol, maybe the Amazon took down the snippet because they got the wrong remix.

  • Anonymous

To be fair, most Adam fans are sqeeing and flailing as much as their hearts can take.  Talking about ‘breaking’ Twitter and such. Which is to be expected. So it stands to reason that if the snippet isn’t ‘earthshattering,’ some will question it.  Par for the course, all that jazz.

  • Anonymous

Bravo to Lee Cherry for a great cover. He certainly knows Adam and understand his personality and style and it’s reflected in his photos of Adam. I love the cover and I must say, that snippet makes me eager to hear the whole song. What I love most about it, is that I am hearing Adam’s voice above anything else. The 20th can’t get here soon enough for all of his fans around the world.

  • Anonymous

It sounds exactly like the demo.

  • Anonymous

Fan response with excitement doesn’t equate with people thinking it’s earth shattering. That’s just people being happy.

To be fair, Adam fans have crashed a few servers by admittance by the people running them (ex. Charity Water) though it’s not a limited occurrence caused by only Adam fans (fans other Idols and musicians cause similar events). Twitter is too nebulous to know for certain without more study. I discussed the twitter impact in the headlines thread from earlier a little more, if anyone is interested.

  • Moria Polonius

The photo is new, though, marchle, it can’t have taken more than a few days of photoshopping.

  • mmb

I hate snippets because its so hard to tell anything from them…but couldn’t help myself.  Adam sounds really great.  Like what I’m hearing a lot. Sounds like a song he will be able to sing the heck out of live.  But as with all snippets, can’t tell much about whole song.  Man he looks great on the cover art.  Lee Cherry really knows how to take good pictures of his friend.

  • Anonymous

Just listened to the snippet. I am surprised…
I thought the demo was supposed to be redone into that practically unrecognizable “killer track”.
And if you play them back to back yes, I am sure there are differences to be found. But overall impression is very much the same as I got from that demo. And I didn’t like that demo… “No sir, I did not like it”.
    Heh.
If you ask me with Kelly and Daughtry RCA had chosen one of the most underwhelming tracks from there respective records to represent the album. And now it seems like the same is happening with Adam.
    So frustrating.

  • alterego7

The photo shop cover makes him look younger and slimmer than he is in real life.  The pressure is on for this next single, next album – to avoid the sophomore jinx.

  • http://twitter.com/ucla2014 lovemehateme

You guys are right, it doesn’t matter what a displeased fan thinks, but if a large majority of displeased fans don’t like it, what makes anyone think that the general public will like it? Something to think about.

  • Anonymous

I read through some of the comments and am surprised to see comparisons to Bruno Mars and Rihanna songs. I don’t hear that at all but I do hear a drop of Nickelback weirdly enough!!

This is definitely not a dance tune.

  • Anonymous

That’s exactly what he said, this time around he makes music that he wants to make rather than trying to please his fans. He has fans around the world and it won’t be easy to please us, so I’m glad he made that decisions. And pretty sure his fans will find some songs they will like in Trespassing plus brand new audience :)

  • Anonymous

Not sure they get to pick the song that will be the single. This was not what I was expecting. Underwhelmed.

  • Anonymous

There isn’t a large majority of displeased fans though. Not on here, twitter, or other sites that are publishing the story. It’s enviable that some people will dislike it, but so far, fans seem very positive.

General public will be something else entirely, of course, and we’ll have to wait to see when it reach the actual public via radio.

  • Anonymous

None of Bruno’s hits are dance tunes and Rihanna just released back to back mid-tempo songs. It seems to be the popular choice right now. The production is in like with Rihanna re: We All Want Love (seriously, the background effect is almost identical).

  • Anonymous

I said the sqeeing and flailing to be expected.  Not disagreeing with you.

And we all know Adam–or any Idol–can’t ‘break’ Twitter. It’s why I put it in quotes.

WOW I LOVE the cover art!!!!!!
It reminds me of the old sepia photographs that have been restored when you thought they were completely lost to damage.  It gives the photo an ethereal quality that I love. Lee Cherry does good work.  And god I love his hair…haha

I can’t tell from the snippit lol what my opinion of the song it….I LOATHE those things.  But damn if it isn’t great to hear his voice again.  Does he even have to use his falsetto to reach those high notes?  Damn!!!

Everyone is a music critic.   WTF?   Let the music stand on it’s own, not on what others perceive Adam should be singing.   I can’t hold a tune, but I know what I like and it is Adam Lambert singing songs his own way.

tempo wise, it seems somewhere between Halo and Rihanna’s new song, We Fell In Love. And to me it seems even more ear-wormy than WWFM.  Obviously that’s subjective and there have been songs I thought would/should be hits that weren’t and vice versa, but I am pretty excited.  And the DJ/non-fan reaction seems very positive overall (as does the fan reaction, but obviously that doesn’t matter as much, lol), which is good. :)  I can’t wait for them to really start promoting it.

IT’s interesting because we know the other two songs in consideration were up-tempo, so I wonder if they figure that winter seems like a great time for those more mid-tempo songs (since they’re doing great right now), and maybe if this one does well, around album release time they’ll release the second one? That would be cool.

Wow, this “photoshopped” cover looks almost as good as the twit pics some people took of him at a new LA club the other night. No photoshop, no tricks, just a camera phone and the same gorgeous man.

  • http://twitter.com/whiskey401 Whiskey

The single cover is amazing and Adam looks good. the snipet isn’t that far off from the demo but I’ll wait to hear the whole song before I can judge it. I don’t think we heard the best parts yet. I’m glad Adam went with a midtempo as a lead single which fits perfectly for the winter season. Come spring/summer he can put out a dance single which I’m sure he will. The little I heard is very catchy and earwormy and his vocal towards the end is stellar. All the right ingredients are there for a worldwide hit song. Can’t wait for the 20th.

  • Anonymous

Lol. I thought you were saying that that equating claims that it was “earth-shattering” like another poster claimed. My mistake, very sorry.

I wasn’t passing judgment on your use of the word “broke,” but was rather expanding on that and stating that crash is a more applicable word. Broke is often used, even in my field, so I don’t see anything inherently wrong with it even though it’s hyperbolic. Your use of quotes was perfect imo.

  • Moria Polonius

The musical direction of the new song appears to be truly different than WWFM and IIHY so that’s understandable.

  • kingmikol

Seems like 90& of adam’s fans love the song so far and 90% of the non fans dislike it.
Sounds like the norm to me!

  • Anonymous

Wow, just listened to that mp3 download with good earphones and I love it even more! It does not sound the demo at all to me. Definitely a midtempo dance tune, very catchy and Adam sounds great! Can’t wait to get the whole song! I have been to several sites catching up and the reaction is overwhelmingly positive but I knew there were people that wouldn’t like it, however I am very happy I do and I think it will fit in very well on pop radio.

  • Anonymous

I keep listening to the snippet and is loving it more and more. If this is the direction he’s taking with this album, then I am very happy.

  • Anonymous

Not surprising since I’m a fan but I’m completely in love with the snippet, like it’s taking every bit of my willpower not to just put that 30 secs of his voice on repeat for the rest of the night but I don’t want to burn myself out on the LQ version before we get the full real thing in HQ.

Loving the heartbeat-y drums and the slightly atmospheric vibe in the background. But most of all I love what Adam does with his voice, so much quiet power behind the high notes in the chorus, and it kills me that the snippet only gives us a tiny bit of the verse because his voice is so rich and gorgeous down lower.

I’ve turned it off, but my brain is completely stuck singing a loop of BETTER THAN I KNOW MYSEEEEEE-EEEEEE-EEEEE-EEELF heh.

The AO soundcloud snippet is so much richer and deeper than the Amazon snippet. Can’t stop listening to it with headphones on!

  • http://twitter.com/Quu3 Q3

Seems like a smart choice for the lead single to me — similar enough to WWFM to be recognizable to causal fans, upbeat and Top40-HAC-AC radio worthy.

I’m just pleased to hear the vocal up front and clean.

Great single from a beautiful man.

Finally able to listen to the snippet. I hate snippets, but I can’t resist them either.

First thing I thought was, I can’t wait to hear the bridge.  This is a safe choice. Maybe that’s best for the lead single. I’m sure it’s not as interesting as album tracks, singles rarely are.  So, hopefully it’ll get good airplay and

Very much the same pattern as Kelly’s rollout with MKIA being mid-tempo.  Not sure I agreed with it, but seems to have worked out ok for her.  So, well done Adam and RCA.

And his voice sounds amazing. Can’t wait to hear it live.

  • Anonymous

What is the most thing to me that his voice is out front and crystal clear, so I can hear every word and the feel the emotions he’s trying to relay through his music. I’m very happy with what I have heard so far and pleased with all of the tweets from dj’s who have heard Adam’s debut single.

  • shawn clark

Depends on where the negative feedback is coming from ronnie.  RCA doesn’t much give a crap about bitter idolberts who have an obvious bias against anyone and anything that isn’t put out by their favorite.  I’m guessing RCA has previewed this song, in full, for radio people and judging from the responses we’ve seen via twitter the consensus is that they love the song and the new material.

  • shawn clark

I think it depends on who the negative feedback is coming from.  if it’s DJ/PDs then yes, RCA would certainly pay attention; however, if it’s from the bitter fans of other artists probably not so much.

  • Anonymous

    Ugh, the lyrics….

  • Anonymous

I love the cover art and am really encouraged by the snippet!  Count me as one who actually loved the original demo, though; after listening to that just a couple times way back the first day it was linked, I’ve been singing/humming it ever since–what an ear worm!  Much moreso than WWFM, IMO, and I really like that song, too. I think I’m going to prefer BTIKM, though, because the lyrics are more complex and I get the sense there will be greater opportunity for Adam do let loose with his amazing vocal range.  I like that it’s mainstream enough to (hopefully) be picked up by radio but still vocally challenging enough that it shows off Adam’s talent.

No, Cole Porter they ain’t, but, as lyrics go today, IMO they’re pretty good.

  • Anonymous

    You are a jealous dickhead.

  • Anonymous

Well, technically, the single was not delayed, it was pulled out of the Claude Kelly’s trash at the last minute, because the material that Lambert submitted to the label sucked so bad.

Adam causes so much commotion.  Such a relief from all of the bland out there!!

  • Anonymous

TexasMeterMaid — is that directed at me?  Excuse me for having an opinion.

  • Anonymous

Just gorgeous. The man and the voice!!!!

  • Anonymous

Yeah the lyrics are the weakest part of the song. The song has potential although just from a snippet it’s really hard to tell. Although it seems like they changed the demo hardly at all. So yes it does appear that pulled out a Claude Kelly tune that’s been around for awhile.  Very, very safe choice.

  • Anonymous

Yes, I’m sure they hate the song written with Pharrell so much that they decided to use it as the title track. LMAO.

  • Anonymous

Just listened to the soundcloud version and I agree it is even better. Love Adam’s voice on this. I am not getting the demo version at all. Adam’s vocals and the great production make all the difference. This has a much more urban, R&B flavor and is very different from FYE, therefore I don’t think it is safe at all. It it a great fit for top 40 though, I just love it.

  • Anonymous

So true – sign of a great artist.

  • Anonymous

Adam causes so much commotion.  Such a relief from all of the bland out there!!

That’s an interesting statement, considering that WWFM and (based on the snippet and demo) this song are not edgy, different or particularly original.  They pretty much fit in with the HAC and midtempo songs that are currently on the radio.  Even with the arrangement, all they did was slap on a beat that isn’t a perfect fit for the song, but it’s what a lot of artists/labels are doing today to make sure that they get airplay.   I don’t have a problem with that, and the decision to release songs like these is probably a good one, but these songs don’t set Adam apart from everyone else, or make him sound different.

  • Anonymous

In many ways I wish we’d never heard a demo.  For whatever reason, it seems people are criticizing the snippet more because it sounds like Claude Kelly’s version than they might have had this been their first listening.  Most songs derive from a demo, but since we never hear them, we think of the songs as “originals.”  I feel like some of the people invested enough to have listened to the demo are now viewing Adam’s version of BTIKM as a karaoke version of some old song. Luckily, the vast majority of the listening public won’t have heard the demo and won’t be able to draw comparisons or look down on Adam for finding a demo he liked and going with it.

  • Anonymous

All that may be true, but the commotion continues unabated whenever his name appears – lol.

  • http://twitter.com/idolfanatic44 idol fanatic

Does Adam have Kelly’s name recognition and track record on Pop radio??? No…so that comparison isn’t a good one.

  • http://twitter.com/idolfanatic44 idol fanatic

I listen to top 40 and am quite familiar with Rihanna’s and Britney’s discography. Can you explain which songs of theirs sounds like this? Because I don’t hear it at all. lol

  • Anonymous

    ZOMG!

From the first full review of the song, CANNOT WAIT to hear this!

The most emotionally potent moment is the bridge, where the richer synths yield to a tinkling piano and the lyrics turn unexpectedly vulnerable: “I get kinda dark/Let it go too far/I can be obnoxious at times/But try and see my heart.” It’s a lovely turn, with a candor that’s refreshing to hear in pop music, and it makes the song truly memorable.

Also as suspected, as much as I adore the snippet as fan, it apparently doesn’t do the song justice. Not surprising, snippets rarely do.

First off, I should say that the snippet, which was released today, doesn’t really do the song justice. You can hear that the chorus sees Adam reaching into the higher part of his register, with booming, “Halo”-like drums and a skittering backbeat. But part of what makes the song magical is the way it builds from the opening of whining synths and a nicely percussive backing track, then builds instrumentally into the chorus.

  • Anonymous

Can’t wait to hear the whole song!! What a great preview write-up!!
I’ll be in twitter jail on the 20th for sure! #Excited!!

  • Anonymous

Great review! Looking forward to the whole song…Mr. Lambert is breathtaking, like always.

  • HotHotHot

I love this song a lot and I find it odd to condemn it after hearing a 30 second snippet. But, hopefully, a lot of people will like it and it will be popular and zip up the charts!!! Hahaha!!! I chose to think positively!!

  • Anonymous

Some of Rihanna’s song on her current album, Talk That Talk, have similar production. Some have mentioned a similarity to “We Found Love”, which I hear, but more aptly the percussion (the shaking drum beat) and atmospheric background sounds are extremely similar to “We All Want Love”.
Considering she (and Britney) are often produced by Dr. Luke, it’s easy to see some of his key tricks in this track as well.

  • Anonymous

Wow, great review! I can’t wait to hear that bridge. The snippet is a total ear worm to me already, so excited!

OMG that review is amazing. I hope MTV tweets it out to their 3million followers. Like Sony said get ready for good things to come. I’m not worried that Adam is has no co-write or writing credit on this single as long as radio play it and it becomes a hit. We’ve seen idols with writing cred and their singles went on to still flop. As for their writing skills that is also debatable.  As executor producer of his album I’m sure DMG his management got him a good deal. So if his album does well he’s set to make some nice change. I remember last time Adam album came out peeps were saying that the last Idol to get back to back pop hit songs was Jordan and Adam did it. He didn’t close out his era with a flop single so radio play should be much better this time around. *fingers cross*.

Ooo this snippet is different from the one I heard earlier. I love it! He looks amazeballs. :)

but it’s what a lot of artists/labels are doing today to make sure that they get airplay.

Well if ever there in an artist that has to tread carefully with US radio and airplay it is openly gay Adam Lambert, for some strange reason.  Makes perfect sense to me to go with something ‘safe’ for the first single, the more of a staple you become on radio, the easier it is to get radioplay for anything you put out.

The added bonus for me is that I already like this song way more than WWFM just on the snippet.  You are right it is a perfect fit with the current HAC chart and the midtempo tracks that are also doing well in top40.  I think there is the potential for a big HAC #1 and top 10 on pop which would possibly break down some barriers for one of those dancey S&M tracks as a followup.

The only real question for me is, will US radio give it a fair shot this time?  Guess we’ll see soon enough!

  • Anonymous

These lyrics sound so much like Adam I wouldn’t be surprised if he wrote them and gets himself a writing credit on the song. That MTV review has got me all wired up and now I can’t sleep, lol.

  • Anonymous

Don’t know if I like that or not, that is just a sick single cover, it would make an epic album cover.

  • Lynne

Adam’s voice alone sets him apart from the others.

  • TurkeyIdol

I totally agree.  There is talk about Adam not having writing credits on this first single.  But do we know he doesn’t.  The demo had no bridge at all, so he could have wrote the bridge for this version.  We will see! :)

  • Anonymous

I really hope Adam did have a hand in co-writing the bridge, I think he does bridges particularly well, perhaps because of his ‘theatre kid’ appreciation of drama.

The bridge is the only part of Pick You UP I can even listen to, the rest of the song does zilch for me.

  • Lynne

Some fans may not like this, but wait … you may get some that you like from the album TRESPASSING.  But it will be out in Feb. or March.

Right now, I’m enjoying this little snippet until Tuesday for the whole song.
I’d been waiting for his new songs for so long.

Love, love, love the photo of Adam. Based on the snippet, this song is really not my thing. I don’t get a Bruno vibe at all. Am disappointed that it doesn’t appear to be an Adam cowrite. Curse you RCA and your unimaginative single choices. I guarantee you that there will be songs on this album that are miles better than this one, for me.

I am so confused. Truthiness has been an Adam fan for as long as I’ve been coming to MJ’s?

Just wanted to add that it all comes down to the first big television performance. I really think he will kill this live, in a good way.

actually the lyrics posted by Sam Lansky of the bridge to not match the lyric’s originally in the song we heard from the demo.  Adam quite possible could have rewritten the bridge…so there is that.  And Claude did say when you hear the song it was going to be differant.

how you label yourself and what you reveal about yourself in your comments are often two very different things.

Obviously no one can know yet how the song will do, but it seems great that Sam Lansky loves it so much–he’s a professional, non-idol music writer who has no stake in Adam doing well, so his opinion seems honest, and he honestly thinks the song is fantastic. :)  The DJ response so far has been positive, and hopefully they’ll play it.  The z100 djs talking about it seemed great–getting play there would be awesome.

I’m excited to hear the bridge too.  If Adam had written it, I think he would have said that, but maybe not. He’s said he co-wrote on most of the songs, so I’m excited to hear those since Broken Open and DTRH are two of my favorite songs on FYE, but I don’t mind non-co-writes as long as they’re good. :)

I don’t care if Adam has a co-write on his first single or not. It don’t make a bit of difference to whether the song is going to be a hit or not. From what I heard of this song, I am over the top about the vocals. His voice sounds phenomenal and he’s going to kill this song live and that along with getting radio play will sell this song. After listening to the song a few more times last night, I have to agree with some that the chorus there sounds the same as the CK version. I am okay with that though because that part of the song I liked. I just didn’t like CK trying to sing it, lol. It was the rest of the song I had a problem with- it just lacked anything remotely hook-y. I’ll take CK and SL’s word that those parts changed and really look forward to the rest of the song, because seriously, if you can make up your mind on a 15 second snippet, you have some amazing precognitive abilities :)

Am not going to comment on the snippet since it doesn’t give me enough of an idea on the whole song (didn’t listen to the demo) but I love the cover art for the single. I like the dark feel to the cover, I wonder if some of the songs will be dark also. If the single is like WWFM than I’ll love it since I love that song. I also hope something on the disc has a feel to it like Sleepwalker since its another of my favorites from the other album. I love Adam alot on his faster style music than the slower music, at least on the first album.

  • cwm

I love the single cover, the photo is awesome!

I too love the snippet. His voice is amazing on it, and I’m so thrilled to hear that voice on a new song. I also like the juxtaposition of his voice to the atmospheric background and the heartbeat percussion. The chorus is very hooky and is stuck in my head.

OMG, can you imagine Adam singing this chorus live?? Ahhhhh.

I’m really looking forward to hearing the whole song – especially after that amazing review from the guy at MuuMuse.

From what we can hear so far and from what people have said, I think it’s a very good choice for a first single, because it is radio-friendly and builds on Adam’s previous radio success. Next single can take further risks.

The only real question for me is, will US radio give it a fair shot this time?

Yup, that is the big question isn’t it.  I’m cautiously optimistic after reading so many positive statements from various radio peeps. Radio play is such a ~mystery tho. My favorite part of Sam Lansky’s review was at the end:

… I would be stunned if it didn’t perform excellently on the charts …

    Here’s hoping.

  • Tess

Why should Adam, of all the Idols, be brought to task for not reinventing the wheel everytime he opens his mouth to sing.  Up to this point I can’t recall a single Idol who has come up with a new, unique, and different sound that they have presented to radio to get themselves heard.  Its easy enough to go down the list and see that for Idolettes and most of the other singers of today that they are all formula driven when it comes to putting out music.

The “sounds” of music change very slowly…its more that a sound falls out of favor than it is that a new one suddenly bursts on the scene.  Sure it would be great if an Idolette could come up with something brand spanking new to put themselves into the forefront of music…but the odds of that happening are far less than minimal.

I, personally, have no problems with any of the Idolettes presenting us songs that are composed of current sounds…as long as those songs and the singer impress me with their “take” on the formula.  If Adam’s song in its entirety turns out to be bland and dull then I’ll be the first to claim what he is doing needs to be changed…but if his music is passionate, impressive, catchy, ear-wormy, and highlights his vocal skills, even though it is pretty formulative, I will be impressed.

I must have missed something last go-round because I thought that Adam had reached #10 with WWFM on Top 40 and charted with IIHY.  Considering all the songs released to radio I think that what he did was pretty damn good (individual perspective and all that).  His first few singles were good but not earth-shatteringly great and ended up pretty much where they fit in.  And, WWFM has been playing in recurrents for the better part of two years and has ended up as one of the top played Idol songs consistently for the last year.

I still love the snippet the day after!  Can’t wait for Tuesday to hear the full song!

So glad we are only days away from starting the new promo cycle!  I missed all of this, the excitement, and the craziness!

  • gferna

The way this song sounds, only Adam can sing something like that.  Maybe that was the reason nobody before picked it.  It’s slow paced, like a ballad, but I’d better hear the entire piece before judging.

I think the issue with WWFM and radio was the speed with which the various radio conglomerates adopted it.
The early adopters were quick to get on board but by the time the later ones added WWFM the earlier adopting stations had moved on.
If everyone had added it even within two months it could have done better than it did as far as radio play and charting.
The hope is that this time around he is more of a known quantity and that there is not as much waffling.

  • justshootme

Fair enough. *TO ME* WWFM coulda/shoulda/woulda charted higher if adds had come in in a less staggered fashion.  But like you said “individual perspective and all that”.  I’m not interested in rehashing.  I just want things to go well “this time”.  Which is the part of the quote I was really focused on.  :)

    ETA Or what aatami said.

ETA2 This was in reply to Tess, lol.

“Sounds like Nickelback with a hip hop back beat. I’m confused.”Whut???? Sry this makes me laugh.

  • LaurelG

I am BEYOND excited about the prospects for this song.  Ecstatic, thrilled, RELIEVED!  This song sounds exactly like what’s playing on my favorite Pop stations RIGHT NOW (and I say stations because I’m a big channel switcher so I listen to multiple Pop channels).  The only difference is that I’d expect to hear this sung by Bruno Mars (who will soon be kicking himself that he didn’t get to it first although I think he writes most of his own music.)  But Adam’s voice is superior and will soar on this piece.

I think they (Adam and his team) did everything right this time.  Everything.  A song that is completely contemporary written by a couple of proven hitmakers in the Pop field – right where he/they want to be.  A song that is not only earwormy (my take based on that snippet and the reviews) but one that will showcase Adam’s voice.  I think people who don’t know Adam (and, yes, there are plenty out there) will stop and go, “Wow, who is that guy?”  It sounds as if they have been building excitement and anticipation at key, big market radio stations.  Plus I think Adam will launch at a time when stations will be looking for fresh music.  And there will be plenty of itunes gift cards to use up after the holidays.  Not to mention the cover art is stunning.

I’m uber excited.  Can you tell?  Ha.

  • justshootme

Lol, me too. No offense to the OP, but I don’t get the Nickleback comparison at all.  At. All.  I mean, it’s a guy singing along to musical intruments, so there’s that.  Cracks me up.

  • Dakota01

Even though WWFM reached #10 on the Billboard Hot 100, it would have charted higher had the Cumulus stations added it sooner.  By the time they added it, WWFM had already peaked.  On a positive note, they added IIHY much quicker so hopefully this bodes well for BTIKM.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_C654KSWBJAFJCD664DPMTO4D5E Lyoness7

I really like the snippet and the excitement on twitter by DJ’s and Program Directors Nationally and Internally have me excited that BTIKM will SMASH world wide.  Adam deserves this.  He works hard for it and even if Adam is not your cuppa come on admit he has one of the best voices in the biz.

Cirus Radio messed up the launch of WWFM.  They would not add the song.  It took them forever to do so.  But regardless of that they seem on board now.  Not many idol alum can claim a top 10 World Wide hit which is what WWFM was.
    Its all good.

  • iani

Hmm, Adam going “urban” it’s not I’ve been expected, hope it’s the only one in his album. Not because the song is bad, the voice is great, good chorus, but the change in style to R&B, even for only one song, it’s the single that “talks”, introduces the album and hope he keeps his casual fans who know him as the glam, electro pop dance artist. If the rest of album is completely different, then WTF RCA, don’t try to explore now other musical dimensions only because he can sing anything, he needs to continues his success not to start over with different style in the name of diversity. Hope I’m totally wrong and he’ll be successful, there is only a concern about shifting musical-gears with the single when it could be one of the album’s song to make it eclectic, not the single to alienate casual fans, only my thought.

  • Anonymous

While we haven’t heard the whole song,  this snippet hasn’t even one ounce of urban in my book.  Maybe I have the wrong definition of urban.  RnB?  What?  I’m confused.

This song is a cross between Bruno Mars and One Republic with a slight over taste of Rihanna merely in the sound (being the production).  That’s pop on pop on pop.

I feel the same way.  It’s rhythmic-leaning pop, but urban? No.  I don’t see Urban AC playing the song, based on the snippet.

Not really liking the snippet…hopefully his new cd will have more diversity on it…not so much dance/electro/pop….this sounds like more of the same

  • iani

“Maybe I have the wrong definition of urban.  RnB?  What?  I’m confused.”

I’m not the only one who say that, and I think R&B is part of urban music, the two lines of the verse “all along, i tried to pretend it didn’t matter” has R&B beat, hope I’m wrong.

  • Moria Polonius

    More diversity than….?

    More of the same as…?

For what it’s worth, from most descriptions, the album is going to be even more dance/electro/pop.

  • Tess

What kind of music should Adam be singing?  I’m always curious when folks “want” something from Adam as to what that sound should be and how it would relate to him getting more exposure to the listening public.

I’ve been crazy busy, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been monitoring this thread.  I’ve deleted posts, and have even banned a couple of people. This is a gentle reminder to respect your fellow commenter’s opinions. This thread is for EVERYONE to share their opinions on the topic.

Also, deleted posts that made vague allusions to stalking so-called “haters” through the disqus functions. Wow. I’m not going to comment on that except to ask that you keep that shiz to yourself. Stay on topic. Your fellow commenters are NEVER the topic.

I do love some RnB but I hear no Rnb in that snippet.  Maybe it’s a new kind of RnB/urban?  I don’t know.  I understand that other people have said it.  Maybe I’m just not informed enough in genre.  It’s all good.  Whatever it should be called, honestly I think it’s good for pop radio.  And that is what counts for me.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHIRO4P2ZPNQFGMK5KR57VH3E4 Nanc

Than FYE….Adam had stated that this next CD would be more “dark”, with more of a rock edge and vibe to it…based on this snippet this looks like FYE 2.0 which I won’t purchase if it is…

  • Anonymous

Hopefully,  your hopes remain thus, as far as I’m concerned.  It’s really all about personal likes and taste after all.  But imo, it is not for the artist to satisfy someone’s needs, but for the person to find the artist that will satisfy their needs.

Nanc – he said all that like 10 months ago. Then he fell in love, got all happy and basically discarded a lot of that stuff and went a very different direction starting with Pharrell in June. It’s still different from FYE but maybe not the way you want it to be.

  • Anonymous

I am mezmerized by the beautiful shape of that eyebrow.

  • Anonymous

FYE was very diverse. And from what I’ve read Trespassing will be too. According to Joe Ricatelli (sp?) there one song where Adam channels Freddie Mercury. The only thing that seems more of the same to me will be the incredible vocals.

  • Anonymous

That muumuse.com review was already posted but it is awesome if anybody missed it. I really don’t care if it is pegged as pop/rnb/rythmic/gregorian/salsa/whatever, I just know I love it so far, and from what people that have heard the whole song are saying, I will probably love the rest even more. I just hope radio will play it and they should because I think it fits right in with Top 40 right now.

  • Anonymous

Stalking through Disqus? That’s not creepy in the least. Why would . . .  nevermind, I probably don’t want to understand.

  • Anonymous

press release is out.  I’m sure someone will link.

We have an ALBUM release date:  March 20th 2012.

Also  BRUNO MARS is one of the collaborators.  SO excited right now.

  • YeahRight

Because he and his fans talk like whatever he puts out will be the most amazing thing ever and it will change music forever.

  • Moria Polonius

More  diversity than FYE? FYE was extremely diverse, for many it was a drawback. Trespassing is supposed to be more cohesive. In my opinion  BTIKM sounds very different than anything on FYE, it’s more in the vein of the current top40.

Adam had stated that this next CD would be more “dark”, with more of a rock edge and vibe to it.

Lol, he said that at the very beginning of the recording process. Then he changed his mind and apparently a soul-searching with William Pharell resulted in a new musical direction. “Dark with a more of a rock edge” went into the trash can together with “like WWFM and IIHY” and “thinking of what people expect” replaced by electro and funk and whatever else.

Official RCA Press Release. Album drops on March 20th of 2012. OMG! Squeee… And Bruno Mars collaboration???? OMG!!!! Whut??? The first time see this. Super excited!!! :)

Hmm, iono. This could still wind up being a “darker and more personal” album, though.  No doubt, though, that the rock edge probably did go out.

  • Moria Polonius

Fair enough, it’s not like the lyrics of BTIKM and OOL are sunshine and happiness. Even the full on dance tracks can end up having a darker vibe, I believe there supposed to be something about “fucked up S&M relationship”…

  • Moria Polonius

Oh cool. Now fans can flail about every new piece of information without the frustration attached.

  • whoisthatwoman

I hope it’s dubstep lite…had to go listen to Skrillex to find out what that was.  Too electronic for me.

  • Tera2

I heard the original demo of “Better than I know myself” by Claude Kelly that was posted here few weeks ago and I really liked the song and how Claude sang it.  (I like Pop-soul music.)  I figured Adam will change it up a bit.  Its hard to tell from this snippet, but I didn’t care for the first part that Adam is singing it too high and shrill – but when he changed to his normal voice towards the end it sounded better.  I have to hear longer portion to judge better how Adam did on this.   I think the song has a good melody though.

That cover of his CD has the same harsh brush strokes painting effect background and him wearing a black coat and black hair like James’s CD cover.

  • Moria Polonius

    I don’t think Adam’s going to go full dubstep on a mainstream-oriented record…

  • asifclueless

Today is a good day, a happy day… for me with all of these snippet,  reviews,  new information from insiders,  and press release.  :)

Adam never disappoints me. He always brings me joy. This year has been a hard year so I cling on to his music …old (pre-idol) and new, to cheer me up.

March is my birth month, with little money I have, I’ll buy me a present (TRESPASSING) that I’ll cherish it for a long time.

And today I got a pleasure of hitting this thread many times, actually all day, just to see the photo of Adam’s COVER ART above.

Thanks mj.  You don’t know how much you make this gal happy.

  • Anonymous

Not a big fan of Bruno Mars but he sure can write a hit so I’ll take it, lol. I think we had a hint of this when Adam started following a couple of Bruno’s songwriting team members? And yay! we have a date. If BTIKM takes off, do you think we might get a second single before album drop?

  • Anonymous

Adam’s eyebrow is shaped like an inkstroke of Chinese calligraphy (it is the symbol, I believe, that means “seksai”).  JK :)

  • Anonymous

Then you and I will just have to agree to disagree to a point. I was a DJ in the 80′s and pretty much got tired of the sound, but there are some songs that I still listen to today. In fact, I listened to “Shout” and other songs last night after making my first comments and before listening to Adam’s snippet again.  And Adam’s song – at least the snippet – does remind me of that genre.

But, as I have said earlier, the 80′s influence is all the rage today. I feel for the drummers who, of the ’80′s are any example, stand to lose their jobs to the electronic drum tracks.

  • Anonymous

That is probably one of the better press releases I have seen.  It made me very excited about the music but without a big eyeroll because they opened a thesaurus and basically claimed that the album is going to cure cancer LOL

    Well done Sony/RCA

  • Anonymous

A wonderful post, asif – yes, Adam makes us happy – and thanks to MJ for having this great thread.

  • asifclueless

smeggs … you cracked me up.  LOL

The album will cure my blue, though.

I’m glad he won’t sing something like ..my exes left me for Texas, they took my dog and  crashed my Lexus.

  • Anonymous

Just from this little snippet, this sounds like a radio hit to me! Adam has a great recording voice. Congrats to him on all his successes.

I love that “Global Superstar Adam Lambert” in the RCA Press Release.

  • http://twitter.com/Loretta31 Loretta

Adam looks GREAT in that photo.  This is more the look I like than the glam. I like the single.  I prefer rock but rock certainly isn’t doing that well.  :(.  I hear rock and funk elements and pop.  I think this will be the smash Adam hopes for.
