Here it is–the long awaited video for Adam Lambert’s “Time For Miracles” from the 2012 soundtrack. Enjoy!

ETA: Adam is GCI’d into scenes of destruction and mayhem. Sun spots are exploding, cars flying, people panicking–Adam walks through it all like a zen vision, as if he’s there to single-handedly give mankind hope with his golden-throated glory notes. Seriously. It’s going to look epic on the big screen. Crazy, epic stuff.

UPDATE: By the way, “Time for Miracles” will be included on For Your Entertainment. I checked with a source who was able to confirm the information with 19.

    Epic!

  • DLee

Epic, like it’s supposed to be. I love it!

  • ShariG

Does anyone else think that Adam Lambert would be a great vampire on the Twighlight series or True Blood? I think it is the contrast between his very pale skin and very dark hair. I could see him as an actor.

  • bruno

    you are the best mj!!!!

  • sidewalkstory

Adam is such a natural. That video was perfect.

  • bruno

    crap! deleted

  • CCAdamFan

Didn’t have to wait until midnight!!! Thanks, mj! Congrats to our dear Adam! Great song, great video!

  • Tess
  • christyo

His intensity in this video is incredible. I got chills!!! I also don’t think I have EVER seen him look better. The guy is GORGEOUS…sorry to sound so shallow, but OMFG!!!!!! I love him!!!

  • Totalele

Can’t believe I missed it. :( I really have to go to bed and got really hopeful for a second that I would be able to see today….

  • spencer

Wow, that was quick LOL glad I got to see it–I liked it more than I thought I would. Thanks, MJ

  • TwigLA

I think the video works and Adam’s voice, look, and style suit the theme of the movie. Editing is a bit choppy in parts and he’s out of sync at times. Not his fault, of course – that’s editing’s job.

I liked the people bumping him while he was singing down the street. Pretty bizarre when you think about it.

  • BeckyMD

    move from anther thread.

Adam is gorgeous, tall and slim. Love the jacket, the boots, the pants and the scarf. Not digging the coat.

I like the part starting at 2:55 ‘baby can you feel it coming’ to 3:08.

btw, it seems the planet of earth is not totally destroyed at the end of the movie.

I think at the end of the video when the flame dies out and it start to rain, Adam is actually smiling. I hope they have a zoom in at that part.

  • suebrody

    EPIC!ADAM.

    *flailing and squeeing*

Third Adam thread today. Good things come in threes. Thanks, mj!!!

ETA: I said this in the other, now defunct thread ;) , but this works because:

Adam has just the right amount of intensity
    He is gorgeous
He has on the long coat he wore for MW (finale) and the emo!hair and that is my favorite look.
    He lip syncs remarkably well.
    It’s Adam.

HOW CAN I BUY OR DOWNLOAD THIS MOTHER???

    Lyndsey Parker lurrrves it

Finally checking in from RL…FLOVE the video. FLOVE the details spread even with flighty self-absorbed (not!) Adam. FLOVE his interview with Laura Saltzman.
I am a mature and intelligent woman of a certain age. Love Adam but in a respectful and objective way.
    Okay…was.
    My first official flail.
    Hyperventilation.
(Hoppers, if you are around and have your carpet bag with you, I could use a drink…)
    Thud.
Now back to our regular programming…which seems to consist of a wide variety of interesting topics that somehow manage to stay on topic. Thanks to everyone for terrific posts on the preview thread, even though not all of it would be to everyone’s taste. When there are (how many hundreds?) of posts, there will be something for everyone and some things for no one.
    Carry on!

  • lovingadam

    perfect! epic! love adam

  • christyo

Will this be available on itunes???

  • KTINTN

Crazy good! Glad to catch it b4 poof! but its worth the wait.

  • alxsavage

I love the song, I can’t wait to see the video, I wouldn’t mind if his album was filled with this kind of stuff, my taste might be a bit old-fashioned but I enjoy it. But then again, I honestly believe that he has the kind of voice that goes well with most genres and rhythms.

Yes, I can wait a couple of extra hours to watch it, I’m waiting for my mom so we can enjoy it for the first time together, just like it was the first time we saw Adam on tv. Yes, it does sound corny, but I love corny stuff.

    (Corny, an alternative for cheese!)

  • Squirrely

Adam Adam everywhere. So happy we have music, videos and fun!

  • HermeticallySealed

funny. i can still see it. Is it really deleted?

  • PattyH

Why is it deleted? Wasn’t Myspace Music the official premiere?

  • Dallas

I loved it. I love to hear Adam sing, but I love to SEE Adam sing more than anything. I can’t wait until we get a good HQ version to buy. I think it will be even better.

He definitely can entertain — I am always in awe of his talent.

Oh, and did I mention SMOKIN F**KING HOT?

  • bruno

    thanks tess. much appreciated!

  • CindyM

bringing from other thread…except substituting Squeeeee!! due to overuse..lol

How about…YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!

Just watched it again and I love it!!

Adam, in all his incarnations, is just mesmerizing. No way he’s lost in the shuffle and I love it!!

  • Natasha

    Pass the cheese whiz!!!

Ah what a cheesy spectacle. I mean that in a good way though. I like cheese a lot. He looks gorgeous and his presence on camera is amazing. Frankly, I think without his OTT intensity the whole thing would be a waste of time.

I wouldn’t say this makes me want to run out and see the movie. The only really good thing about it is Adam and he isn’t in the movie. I can see a lot of stuff blows up but that was a safe bet to begin with.

  • suebrody

You can see it on Lyndsey’s site:

    http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/279195/adam-lamberts-first-music-video-explodes-fans-heads-follow-suit/

Cindy, squeeing and flailing is still available until midnight tonight from iTunes. ;)

  • abbysee

I think at the end of the video when the flame dies out and it start to rain, Adam is actually smiling. I hope they have a zoom in at that part.

World saved by The Glittery Alien from Planet Fierce. Thanks Adam. :)

  • CindyM

I think it was deleted because when the link was originally posted by ontd_ai, the video didn’t look like it was finished processing. It was blurry and out of sync a bit.

  • Studio57

there is close to 700 people on here at 11:00 pm. Yep- people either love him, or love to hate him, but it’s all good. It’s always great to be an Adam fan!

  • Maria22

He looks great, very appropriate to an end of the world movie, but even the dirt and mussed up hair can’t hide the pretty! :)
Love the coat! Thankfully he has the height and long legs to carry it off and make it look great!

  • Truthiness

Adam is gorgeous, tall and slim. Love the jacket, the boots, the pants and the scarf. Not digging the coat.

Oh I loved the coat as well. I loved the whole look, even his hobo skin tones. Though some of the hair and I had moments of hmmm. Guess the end of the world makes one look scruffy. Actually he looked at lot like he did when he was a hair model. Well from one of the shots, photographer also had some Kat McPhee pictures as well.

Anyhew, kind of cheesy and predictable and some OTT acting from Adam, but yeah, that’s the song and film, so to me it fits much better than just the clips.

Oh and did I mention that Adam is looking pretty through a lot of this video? Cuz he is and well, priorities. End of the worl…hey, Adam looks cute!

  • PattyH

I hope it doesn’t lose all the ratings and the count it had. It was over 12,000 in less than an hour!

  • CindyM

Lindsey Parker has weighed in on the video:

    http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/279195/adam-lamberts-first-music-video-explodes-fans-heads-follow-suit/

I liked this part of her column:

So with all this blowing-up going on, it makes sense that the just-premiered video for the cranked-to-11 track is an epic and explosive affair, sort of like a mini-movie version of 2012 itself. In the doomsday clip, the leading man (matinee Idol?) is in full-on trenchcoated Mad Max outlaw mode, fearlessly traipsing miraculously unscathed through a post-apocalyptic cityscape of looters, nosediving airplanes, freefalling great balls of fire, and imploding skyscrapers. And all the while, the camera basically makes love to him from every angle as draws on his many years of theatrical training (not to mention braving the fiery elements of the Burning Man desert) to deliver an appropriately OTT performance

  • stopthemusic

This video is bad bad bad. Maybe Adam will get lucky and the MJ movie flops. The fewer people who see this, the better.

  • tls62

It’s so obvious Adam is a natural entertainer…this is what he was meant to do.

I emailed our local radio station today and asked what their intensions were on giving TFM radio play. Their reply was that at this point, it appeared that his only fan base was a hyperactive minority group. If he broke out of that bubble, the air time play would start. Hmmm…..we’ll see how they feel in a few weeks. I truly feel Adam will break away from this Idol bubble pretty quickly.

  • Glamour

I’m not a super fan, but I like this video a lot! Also love the song!

  • stelladallas

So here’s the deal: Adam is beautiful.

    The end.

  • heartforadam

Watching Adam singing in this video sure put a smile on my face. Okay, a big smile. It is so nice to be an Adam Lambert fan. I am enjoying the ride. =)

  • Truthiness

Oh and yeah, here is Adam before rocking the hobo look (and kind of the same style of coat, though shorter, pea as opposed to trench. And things didn’t have to e’splode to look like that!

  • twinkle

i see many amazing music videos in adam’s future. he was born to do this!

  • girlygirl

Sorry – Adam sounds great and looks fantastic, but this video is not epic — it’s ridiculously cheesy. Which is pretty standard for music videos promoting big action films, but still.

It serves its purpose (promoting the film and the song) and it gives Adam more exposure, which is nice. That’s all, though.

But as I say, this won’t harm Adam’s image. It may even give a boost to the song’s sales, although the sales were doing just fine even before the MV leaked.

I hope that the music videos for Adam’s own music are a lot more interesting than this.

  • adamisthemanfan

there is close to 700 people on here at 11:00 pm.

Holy shit…really? How do you know?

  • Miss Chaos

I just love Adam and love the video! Its a lot like Steven Tylers, but better singing. Just a great disaster video. And his teeth are sooo white LOL. I know I have watched it to many times.

  • dyg1

OMFG, just coming back from my birthday dinner, and look what I have found. I have no words to describe how I feel. Adam is just out of this world. No wonder he was offered that song. His voice, his performance, his look. Hoooot!!!! Flailing ain ´t enough. Adam gets better every minute. I won ´t be able to sleep. Need to keep watching.

Well, at least you didn’t waste $10 or $15 going to the Imax to see it….see, life does have its perks.

  • HarlequinofHate

I am very underwhelmed with the video.

  • suebrody

    LOL stelladallas. You nailed it.

Emo!Adam and Emo!Adam’s coat FTW! (I was so afraid of Pirate!Adam; I guess that was just a temporary thang.) How can one man get away w/ so many looks? (This and James Dean!Adam are my favorites ;) )

    *happy dancing*

BTW, I see that Adam is still at #11 on iTunes chart and #9 on pop chart (US). I know that that there may be a log jam, as hwc so astutely described it in an earlier thread, but I am ready for Adam to break out of the log jam. Perhaps the video will help?

  • Chicagolaw

This may be the best I’ve ever seen Adam look—gorgeous. Love the song, love the video.

  • jtoms

oh…k. that was some wonky cgi. and the people running into him kind of made me laugh.

let’s just say i look forward to his real single and video. lol.

    Adam = gorgeous.
    Song = gorgeous
    Voice = gorgeous

That’s all I need. Well, it’s not ALL I need. But, you get my drift.

  • lakhesis

    Holely moles…

It’s definitely epic when the music + the video is together. The beginning was slow for me… the pictures didn’t match the tune of the song. But then when Adam hits those crescendos and the climax of the song sweeps in… it’s beautiful…

  • BeckyMD

downloaded it (not the official version) and put it on top so that I can post here and watch Adam the same time.

  • adamisthemanfan

Oh and yeah, here is Adam before rocking the hobo look (and kind of the same style of coat, though shorter, pea as opposed to trench. And things didn’t have to e’splode to look like that!

Better vocals and better looking!!! Adam is gorgeous and Tyler is… yick

  • leeann

I have it playing on my iPod right now, just sayin’ – loving it!

Was it a leak or was that scheduled as a sneak preview only?

I downloaded it to Real Player and can send it to someone if they tell me how.

I’ll have to keep an eye on this tubey. It’s going to be deleted in a minute. I hope the OP isn’t partial to her You Tube account. lol.

  • CindyM

Woohoo!! One idol’s video down, two more to go! I imagine Kris’s will be next, I can’t wait. Clocks and the desert! Do we have any idea of Allison’s setup for hers?

Darn. Also, how irritating is that! How are any of these guys supposed to break out of the Idol bubble if their songs don’t get airplay? Well, let’s see how high this baby climbs the iTunes charts , and Billboard and how his single does. Also, the premiere of this song in front of MJ’s movie should kick Adam out of the Idol nest. It’s a good thing he likes feathers. He’s been fashioning himself a set of wings out of his music. I’m sure they will carry him far.

  • Mtlfan

    Just watched the video.
I think the cheesy label fits in (being overdramatic, excessively emotional and clichd ) of course but it fits this specific genre, no?
On the positive side’ ¦ great vocals and just love Adam’s look. Please dont ever do the pompadour or Elvis hairstyle again, it just looks old. Anyone thinks he looks younger with the hairstyle in the video?

  • mitchellvii

Adam is great but the editing is just horrible.

  • Truthiness

I liked the video much more on second look, I have to say. And Adam looked even prettier, and his gestures fit more with the song for me. And I even liked the song more. Well again, taking 30 seconds off was exactly the thing to do (still could use another 30 second cut, lalalala).

I like it more. Not sure if it sells the movie more. The first movie trailer clip and his voice were I thought the best selling of the movie (and the song, actually). But this is better for the song, so there ya go.

  • stopthemusic

Tess, did some people here really pay for TII just to see the video for TFM (a video that’s leaking a week early)? Oh man, that’s actually really funny.

I’m actually getting second-hand embarrassment from the fact that this will be Adam’s introduction to many people. Adam, hope TII flops lol.

  • smartalek

I thought this wasn’t supposed to be leaked until next week. And can we also buy the video yet?

    Adam, hotter than bursting fireballs.

Perhaps by using relevant media — movies, TV and online. I still say FM radio is not a driver of sales anymore — just Billboard charts because they are included in the Billboard ranking.

  • cheese

I loved the Mariah hand at 2:40-2:41. I had to rewind and watch it again.

I don’t usually find Adam attractive, but he definitely looks good here (I think it’s the lack of orange makeup, hair grease and heavy eyeliner), except for when the camera catches him singing his “beautiful high notes.”

I kind of feel like I saw the whole movie now, lol. There’s probably not much more to it. (It would be highly entertaining if Adam randomly appeared during the actual movie)

How is he so pretty even when he’s supposed to be a victim of the apocalypse? It’s not fair.

I have to admit, even though I love Adam’s vocals, “Time For Miracles” isn’t really my kind of song…but it’s grown on me sooo much. :)

  • jpfan

I’m amazed the radio station was so honest. And hyperactive sounds like Adam’s fans are annoying the station. The Mariah hand needed to be edited out.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I kind of feel like I saw the whole movie now, lol. There’s probably not much more to it. (It would be highly entertaining if Adam randomly appeared during the actual movie)

Cheese, we are sharing a brain.

  • Studio57

Austinmidwife- the dj’s HATE it when people call them about AI contestants because they have always been annoying. The clerks at Walmart hate AIfans because people “street team”- meaning they arrange the shelves at the stores so their idol’s CD is front and center. Oh, Ai fans have a long, long history of annoyance and I see why DJ’s hate to play them. Adam will make it on his own- maybe not with this song because of the genre ( and maybe he will- were ANY of us expecting the Itunes sales today to be as great as they were?) but definitely with his next one.

In the meantime, I will enjoy this video and buy it if it becomes available- LOVE IT.

JPfan- believe me- Kris fans are also calling the radio stations.

  • oceanarose

This may be the best I’ve ever seen Adam look’”gorgeous.

ITA, Chicagolaw! I love this look! I also love watching Adam sing. All the emotions he puts into the song come out in his movements and facial expressions. I haven’t watched any videos of him singing lately and almost forgot how much I liked watching him perform. Can’t wait to see the rest of what’s in store for us.
Must watch one more time before I turn in for the night.

  • SybilTrelawney

    First impression after first look:
    1. Adam looks WAY better without his eye makeup. Reminds me of his audition. Go au naturel, Adam.
    2. Love the long coat.
    3. Was only meh about the song itself when I heard it last night, though I thought Adam sounded great.
    4. CGI’ing Adam into scenes of death and destruction? Overwrought Kara DioGuardi lyrics as the Apocalypse unfolds? It makes me like the song better.
    5. God help me. I think I may love it.

  • Glamour

Just have to add…love Adam’s hair and wardrobe!

  • PattyH

I’m confused, MJ. Wasn’t MySpace authorized to premiere it? Why was it pulled?

  • BeckyMD

I think the trailer before TII will be different from the video. This is Adam singing TFM video, not 2012 being introduced video. I think the trailer will be mainly the movie footage, featuring some Adam clips.

  • Mary102

Hopefully someone can help answer this, but does the itunes update feed freeze overnight? My link doesn’t show any new time stamps.

Re the vid – fits the movie and the song, and I just LOVED seeing Adam in full throttle, epic emoting super ballady mode throughout! Especially the last minute – SOO big and EPIC – just like Adam :-) Also looking hot despite the angsty search for hope.

  • Dr. Tracey

I don’t give a fig about the movie but Adam looks gorgeous!

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

Perhaps by using relevant media ‘” movies, TV and online. I still say FM radio is not a driver of sales anymore ‘” just Billboard charts because they are included in the Billboard ranking.”

Thanks, Q3. I feel better now.

  • smartalek

Adam is hot in this and for that reason I would buy this vid. But the video could have used better editing IMO. Like why is part of the song sung with Adam in front of intact buildings that do not collapse in the vid while the vid cuts to scenes of buildings collapsing that don’t have Adam or a scene with Adam in front of a police car. I would have kept Adam in all scenes with buildings collapsing in the background of where he’s standing and police cars. The vid doesn’t make so much sense this way unless the intention was to contrast Adam’s part from the movie scenes. But even so, why have 3 different scenes spliced together as opposed to two- Adam and movie.

  • adamisthemanfan

I still say FM radio is not a driver of sales anymore ‘” just Billboard charts because they are included in the Billboard ranking.

THIS…its true, just look at Josh Groban. He barely gets ANY radio airplay (if at all) and his albums and tours sell very well…it has to do with the type of music he sings (which doesnt really fit todays pop music scene) which I happen to love…he was also fortunate enough to do songs for soundtracks (of movies) that were very successful, like Troy and Polar Express…it seems Adam is going the same route only he wants to be a mainstream artist so he’s going the “blockbuster film” route…
personally I dont think I will be going to the theater to see this movie (Ive seen countless movies with the same theme and this one in particular is very predictable), but I def want to see TII :)

  • hwc

were ANY of us expecting the Itunes sales today to be as great as they were?

    I was.

  • Studio57

I’m actually getting second-hand embarrassment from the fact that this will be Adam’s introduction to many people. Adam, hope TII flops lol

stopthemusic- TII will definitely not flop- it’s already sould out in most venues and it’s expected to have a better opening than The Dark Knight. Most Adam fans love the video, and the song, and since we are the ones buying the song, it really doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks- no one can vote against buying Adam’s song.

But everyone is entitled to their opinion :)

HWC- I actually kind of was too but it was more wishful thinking, lol. I would have been happy with top 20 for this song.

  • Summer

“Baby can you feel me feeling you”

    Oh yeahhhh!

    Awesome vid!

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

LOL Cheese. This is not a movie I would go to see, either. Poor John Cusak. I used to love him so…

As for Adam, the song isn’t up my alley. He looks good. He sounds good, but I can’t get past the song itself. It fits the movie, so… no wonder I don’t have much interest in it! I do love the anguished looks, though. Heh. They amused me.

were ANY of us expecting the Itunes sales today to be as great as they were?

I expected it to do well. Crappy songs often do. That doesn’t make me like it any better. I’m happy for Adam, though. :)

I know! I am kind of liking the song now, and that just wasn’t happening for me before. Wacky! ‘Splosions and pretty (and tighter song) somehow made a much better song. I am so dowloading the ripped version of this one. Hey, I bought it already. But just in case, I’ll buy it from Amazon to assuage my guilt.

Well let’s just say that this is just not gonna happen. It’s already predicted to be the biggest limited run movie, ever…..in the creation of motion pictures. It will also insure that millions upon millions of people will see this awful video…..poor Adam.

  • Mary102

    Emo!Adam and Emo!Adam’s coat FTW!

YES!! LOVED the hair and coat! What a great look – armegeddon should always look so epic HAWT!

were ANY of us expecting the Itunes sales today to be as great as they were?

I think now the question is are ANY of us expecting the itunes sales tomorrow will be as good as (or better) than today? Will the music video boost ituen sales?

ETA, my guess it’ll slide to #20-50 end tomorrow.

  • abbysee

‘Baby can you feel me feeling you’

Oh yeah! I think I like that part the bestest……

  • sidewalkstory

Do we know what number Adam is at now on iTunes

  • Kitwana

were ANY of us expecting the Itunes sales today to be as great as they were?

    Brian May?

  • Mary102

I know! I am kind of liking the song now, and that just wasn’t happening for me before.

I must say, I was a fan of the song from the beginning – but a little critical of some transition moments. However, hearing it more, and now seeing the vid, I love it even more!

  • cher

Love it!! Chills and goosebumps for sure. I thought about the songwriter that died and am so sorry she didn’t get to see her song sung by Adam. It’s so moving. Wow!!!

  • Gigi3

Time for Miracles is a great match between song and movie theme.

    LOVE the video.
    LOVE the “look.”
    LOVE the vocals.

Austinmidwife- the dj’s HATE it when people call them about AI contestants because they have always been annoying. The clerks at Walmart hate AIfans because people ‘street team’ - meaning they arrange the shelves at the stores so their idol’s CD is front and center.

JPfan- believe me- Kris fans are also calling the radio stations.”

Thanks for clearing this up for me, Studio. I’ve never been invested enough in an AI contestant to call a radio station, although I came close with Daughtry. I’m getting quite an education this year.

The video is good. His voice is better. His look is hot. I’m happy. And I will go see this on the big screen. Why not? This is Adam and he is For my Entertainment. Bless him.

  • alaadam

The part that I don’t understand is how everyone is rushing past him. Even if it was the end of the world, I think I would have to stop and stare and then, mob him, clinging to the last best looking thing on earth. Just don’t get some peeps priorities.

  • BeckyMD

Why are they pulling the video off of MySpace? Does anyone know?

Hope it’s because they are improving the editing and correcting the sync issue.

  • sunchick

I don’t give a fig about the movie but Adam looks gorgeous!

Ha, this. I think I saw that Isham directed? He sure has a talent for capturing teh pretty.

  • ppwars

mj: I kind of feel like I saw the whole movie now, lol. There’s probably not much more to it.[]

Cheese, we are sharing a brain.

I streamed 2012 from Netflix a few nights back. SO, I’ve seen the movie, or facsimile, and heard the song…saved 30 bucks in the process!

Adam’s TFM is an epic song in an Titanic movie. Great rendition and vid for the purpose. Wonder if they tried to get Celine to do it?

  • tiger92

were ANY of us expecting the Itunes sales today to be as great as they were?

    Hell yes!

I would just like to say I’ve followed AI since season 2 and I’ve had many favorites along the way. NEVER have I bought more than one single or cd, called radio stations, voted in polls, or rearranged cds at Walmart. I think there are alot more normal AI fans than crazy ones.
I’m also sure that all past favorites have had their share of crazies-it’s not a new concept this year, nor is the title exclusive to Adam fans.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

If this craptastic song outsells his (hopefully) way better first single, then I will scream in annoyance. I have high hopes that I will actually like the songs off his ridiculously titled FYE CD. I also think it would be better for him in the long run to have a hit off his album do better than one that’s just on a soundtrack, assuming he’s getting writing credits on the album…

OMG. ROFLMAO!!! You are soooo right.

  • jpfan

Mmm. I actually thought the iTunes sales weren’t all that and a big of chips myself. S8 and S7 were even on tour sales and two Davids combined sold about 266K downloads of their single the first week.

Kris’ fanbase only accounted for about 30K. So I figured Adam would pick up the difference. Since the first day is always the Idol fan base, I was surprised TFM didn’t go top 5 today. It may go up when new fans see the video but the huge Adam fan base actually didn’t roar that loud today.

So who else was driving the tour? Danny Gokey, I am now awaiting your first single. Anyway, this video should spur some sales unless people think it’s silly.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Valilac1 VAlilac

For those who commented in these threads that Adam is overacting or the scenes don’t fit the song lyrics or flow smoothly, it’s likely they shot multiple takes and in the end it’s up to the Director and editors to choose the takes they want for the video. Wayne Isham is an experienced director but maybe they were on a short deadline?

It will also insure that millions upon millions of people will see this awful video’ ¦..poor Adam.

And all those poor people that are going to see the subdued style of Michael Jackson will not get Adam AT ALL. They will be running from the theaters!

Becky- I think if the music video didn’t boost it tonight, things won’t change much. All the idols get the initial sales rush and then it dies down. Of course, the other idols didn’t have the movie tie in opportunities that Adam has coming in the next month. I am really psyched for that. I wonder if it will help more than radio play?

  • LeeTravers

There’s nothing you’ve seen that will give you the effect it will have in the theater.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

jpfan, I don’t think TFM counts as Adam’s single. It’s just off a soundtrack. I think it’s doing well for that. It’s not being promoted as his single, although I know it’s being promoted.

I hardly think Gokey will outsell Adam. LOL.

  • Sherena

jpfan the situations aren’t comparable because this isn’t an album single. Its genre is not half as modern as the genre Adam will attempt in his actual album, and it’s not being marketed as his first album single. Many fans are probably waiting for the first ALBUM single… or perhaps only a few are, but we can’t tell for sure. After his first album single is released, we can compare sales with S7.

  • Tess

Ya know…if enough posters keep letting everyone know that this video is the worst thing known to man…maybe Sony can get the rights to Single Ladies Put A Ring on It….Beyonce’s ass wiggling out on an Imax screen…epic. Just a thought!

  • Mary102

Mmm. I actually thought the iTunes sales weren’t all that and a big of chips myself. S8 and S7 were even on tour sales and two Davids combined sold about 266K downloads of their single the first week.

But this is not his official first single, unlike Kris, or the Davids last year. I think it was mentioned before about how the Davids had a lot of airplay on radio, promos, interviews, etc, to help pump up the sale of the first single. TFM is for the movie, not specifically JUST Adam – different roll out, no Adam publicity (except random tweets), so I don’t think it can be compared the same.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Hey, I am not buying this peice of crap song, but I’ll probably buy Adam’s single based on the description of it. Sounds more up my alley. :-)

  • jpfan

No Gokey won’t outsell Adam but he might sell more than people expect. Anyway, true that TFM isn’t the first single.

Wasn’t Adam a runner up to Kris? How is he supposed to pick up what Kris’ fan didn’t accomplish? Supposedly, he has a smaller fanbase than Kris. He mentioned in the ET clip that he was surprised that there are people supporting him. Charting #11 in day 1 already exceeded my expectation.

ETA, and agree that TFM is not even his album single.

It is #1 on Amazon. I don’t beleive a song can go to #1 on iTunes in under 24 hours. Can’t find an example of it happening.

  • Truthiness

It is being promoted as his single. Quote from a TfM ad on iTunes:

‘Get the Second Single from American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert.’

Yeah, but that’s weird, because Adam hasn’t had a first real single.

And while Adam has had some promotion, it’s part of the movie. Yes, there is an iTunes banner…with the 2012 logo on it. The video is rightly about selling the film. Adam hasn’t been on radio stations offically dropping this as his single. And he’s said that repeatedly that his first single will come out soon, and hasn’t been decided, but that is that he will be performing at the AMAs. Not this.

So yeah, whatever randomness, but I think of that as randomness. That or they meant Adam’s real single to come out before this and it is delayed.

  • Mila

I dont understand a lot of sales figures, but I had to learn last week in this blog that one day, one week, two weeks, four weeks are not enough to judge how a song will do. So, I will wait at least 24h lol.

But its not his album single and its doing incredibly well with no airplay. 11th in itunes is overwhelming, and its holding steadily and not falling like a rocket like may happen with idol songs. The video will help, he is too gorgeous.

  • jpfan

“I don’t beleive a song can go to #1 on iTunes in under 24 hours. Can’t find an example of it happening.”

Last year’s runner up. His first single went to #1 on iTunes in less than 24 hours.

  • adamisthemanfan

hopefully he will tweet something about the song and clear things up as to whether it will be on his album or not…and hes already said this is not the first single off his album so Im assuming this song is just an added bonus…I think the song did pretty well and his album’s pre-sales did even better by just word of mouth and no promo!! Still cant get over that…
I think it all depends on his first single and how well that does and how ppl react to his AMA performance.

  • Chicagolaw

Well, I think TFM is doing great; but the best thing that can happen—what certainly needs to happen— is for Adam’s actual first album single to outsell his soundtrack single. I wouldn’t expect much more movement on iTunes until tomorrow. I would guess that the people up watching the video now are the same ones who bought the song in the first couple hours.

  • Sherena

for some reason, I expected Adam to be an ok actor.

I can’t imagine what reason… Adam has always been OTT in his facial expressions and body language, and I love that. But I do think that the video is a different medium, and that what looks good in person or in what you know is a live performance can seem overly exaggerated in a professional video. It’s the same concept as why actors have to, sometimes counter intuitively, hold back their facial expressions in close up shots because if they made normal facial expressions, it would come across as overly exaggerated in a close up shot. So same thing with videos v. real life. Does that make sense? Ugh, it’s really difficult for me to express what I’m trying to express logically, so I’m going to give up now and just post it.

People have brought up great points in that it’s a disaster vid and not supposed to be subtle though. In that context, maybe the facial expressions fit. I sure hope so, because I like them :)

ETA: Oh! It’s like how people were saying that the Bowie Medley moves that seemed too cheesy or OTT in the concert vids were just playful and normal in real life. That’s a better comparison!

  • Truthiness

Supposedly, he has a smaller fanbase than Kris.

    Ha. Right.

Adam lost, obviously his fanbase was smaller than the guy who won. I don’t see what’s so odd to think that is the case.

Isn’t is more accurate to look at Kris’ (the AI winner’s) single sales as reflective of how bad the industry is doing right now, and adjust Adam’s (the runner up’s) sales expectations accordingly rather than saying Adam’s should pick up the slack for Kris’? I guess I’m missing something.

But I do agree that Adam is a good model! :-)

  • Chipmunk

It is being promoted as a single, from a soundtrack. And I dont see how making it to #11 in its first day is any form, shape or realm of possibilty, …a bad thing!LOL! Because it is not! It did really good on its first day!

I think it will sell reasonbly well….fingers crossed! Its sure to get some love when it debuts on the MJ thing next week.Good times peoplel nothing to fret about here

  • AnninSD

There is actually two looks in this video that I think will work well for the international audience (and they are both very good looking).

Look 1 is clean anime Adam. Tuxedo long coat on top of the roof ‘above’ all the mayhem.
    and
look 2 is dirty anime Adam. Black trench amidst the turmoil but breaking through unscathed.

The very beginning with him crouched down on the roof top almost looks like a computer anime shot of something from final fantasy or a video game. Very nice.
And around 3:04 to 3:07 walking towards the camera powering through the vocals, also nice.

Both very good looking and I think commercial looks that will garner interest no matter how a ‘new’ (non AI) audience sees this video.

The music will stand or fall on its own, but from a commercial standpoint, introducing Adam to the music buying public; great PR, visuals are everything when introducing your brand/self.

Overall I give it an A- or a strong B+

Why are we comparing Archie to Adam? Isn’t that like apples to oranges or cookies to steak or something? Srsly.

Anyway…so…I am surprised that they would call this his FIRST single, b/c he said this wasn’t even going to BE on the album. So even if it IS on the album, it’s like a bonus track, right?

My head hurts. And there is NO WAY he is gonna sing this on the AMAs. He already said he wouldn’t, unless RCA makes him, and I doubt it. As if I had any idea.

In other news, Allison tweeted that her album is done!!!

Well, he was in Wicked. I know that is theater, and a completely different sort of acting, but I thought he’d… recognize the difference between a music video and a stage.

yeah, it makes sense. Was it you I was talking to about his overacting and it being like the drama/comedy masks of greece? exaggerated so people far away can see them.. well.. he needs to tone it down. because it’s tv and all up in his face. and you would think he would know that. adam isn’t that song. He didn’t write it, it’s not about him, he shouldn’t be in it. Does that make sense? You’re not yourself when you’re acting. Otherwise, it’s not acting. It’s standing.

Bottomline, Kris won that we know. Adam lost, this we also know. Therefore there is no reasonable expectation that Kris doesn’t have a bigger fanbase and reasonably be expected to do better than the person he beat. So it’s reasonable to expect that of what they sell.

Number of votes doesn’t equal the number of people in a fanbase. I’m not apart of either guys’ fanbase but I voted for Kris because I liked him more than Adam.

But to preserve MJ’s sanity, I think we should just leave this conversation here since it’s rehashing old discussions.

And all that prooves to me that sales are not my personal marker of good music or success.

    I agree 100%

  • Mila

Well, he was in Wicked. I know that is theater, and a completely different sort of acting, but I thought he’d’ ¦ recognize the difference between a music video and a stage.

There is a diretor to choose how Adam should behave. If he wanted him to be more subdued, he would have said. Or maybe he would not have Adam at all because he is too OTT. He could call someone more organic. It seems the director liked it, maybe he was a Glambert within the idol bubble too? lol

  • Truthiness

This song will be on his album? It better as hell be a bonus track, is all I’m saying. Bonus, pay back the Sony piper, track.

  • HermeticallySealed

Do you not understand the concept of acting? Are’ ¦ you saying.. you thought he was adam lambert and that he wrote that song and is walking through an apocalypse while singing that song?

A bit OTT, ya think? Seriously, you didn’t like it, others did. Personally I saw nothing wrong or out of place with his acting. Seemed appropriate enough.

  • houstonrufus

Whether or not this is Adam’s first single or not can be endlessly debated, I suppose. I say it is his first post idol single, regardless of where the song comes from. After all, his fans have been clamoring for anything he’d release. As big a base as he has and as vocal as they are I just expected them to rally in huge numbers and get the song, no matter what the song was, higher on the first day. Is 11 great? Yes! But the bar has been set very, very high for Adam. That’s all I’m saying.

  • iluvai

So I just showed my sweet 14 year old the video, and she said, “he got famous too fast”. She would have loved to meet him (me too), but Adam is going to be a super star!!!! We’re so happy!!! Love him!!!

P.S. We do not flove him. We love him and we admit it. ;D

  • BeckyMD

Otherwise, it’s not acting. It’s standing.

I think the script that Adam got from the director is like: [singing while walking or posing gorgeously]

It’s a music video not the movie itself. Adam’s role is not to act. Otherwise, Nickleback need to do spiderman fly during Hero music video.

  • becausehelives

Do you not understand the concept of acting? Are’ ¦ you saying.. you thought he was adam lambert and that he wrote that song and is walking through an apocalypse while singing that song?

adam isn’t that song. He didn’t write it, it’s not about him, he shouldn’t be in it. Does that make sense? You’re not yourself when you’re acting. Otherwise, it’s not acting. It’s standing.

This rant does not answer the question. U said he was just being …Adam. so who was he supposed to be?. no need to get excited or snarky.

  • twinkle

britney has been around for over 10 years now… i would imagine that 10 years of exposure does not compare, even if adam has gotten a great media roll out. i think he has done AMAZING for being a new artist with a really great PR team. if the numbers for archie are true, i would accept that as a comparison – but a new britney song makes no sense as a reference point.

  • FolkFan

What happened to the old thread? I was reading it, and poof. The good thing was, I already had the pages in my cache, so I at least got to read the comments.

Can’t say that I liked the video, but I’ve been negative on the movie since I saw the preview early this summer, so that’s not too surprising, right? I am so tired of 2012 advertising—I wish that the damn thing would open, so that they would stop running commercials for it every two minutes. I’m almost viewing campaign ads as a welcome break. [Almost.]

  • Mtlfan

i was surprised to see already 185 comments on this new post …. it’s being mixed with the Adam’s video post

  • Truthiness

Problem with this is, he’s not supposed to be anyone, but Adam Lambert. That’s kind of what he’s there for. Adam Lambert…singing the cheesy song in a cheesy OTT disaster film. So yes, I think Adam played himself very well as Adam Lambert singing a cheesy song for an OTT cheesy disaster film. In fact I think Adam did a brilliant job playing himself.

    woop, the thread is back.

  • suebrody

Well, alrighty, I will try this again. lol (brought these over from 2nd thread that became 1st thread, now 2nd again). Poor mj!

I always meant Emo!Adam like in the video, sort of brooding, maybe, no dirt, of course. Honestly, my favorite look is clean cut, just the guyliner, simple (sort of the way he looked for his first audition, when he wasn’t skerred, or def for MW, finale, which is not that different than he looks in the video).

Yes, I love Adam’s voice, and yes, he can sing Want or NoBo or the phone book and I will still love it and I will still buy it.

    cont.

One last thing and then I will DEF go to bed. I was thinking about him reaching out in the video with his arm a number of times, and then I thought, well, this is kind of the opposite of RoF (tho there was reaching as well, remember, just in a different context). RoF was kind of angsty (or defiant? I don’t know) and this was different (hence the name of the song). And I thought, I love them both, b/c I love all sides of Adam. (I will not call Adam emo anymore, but I still think his hair is, Animated.)

I keep watching the video and loving it more each time (the same thing happened w/ the song, I guess the way it did with RoF’“the more I listened,. the more I loved it). So I’m good, and if others aren’t, well, Adam will deal, I’m sure. ;)

(I want the video. Please, iTunes, let me download the video tomorrow. Please….)

    Ciao.

  • boredinschool

In school today I heard someone expressing a liking for Adam Lambert, someone who I had thought to be homophobic or at least ignorant (she would say that things were ‘gay’ if they were bad and called people ‘gay’ as insults). She was defending his voice saying it was clear not gritty. She also said she knew he was gay. She also never watched American Idol. Also, a few days ago someone in my class was trying to figure out the last name of another Adam and one person guessed Adam Lambert. It seemed like everyone knew who he was, but not that he was on AI (when this was stated everyone was confused). I was shocked to say the least.

Oh and the video is awesome! Although the cgi is bad on some parts and Adam over acts. But he’s purdy so that’s okay. (:

  • Mitla96

    Ooops, this thread came back!

I posted this on the other thread while this one was down, but bears repeating.

I think Adam looks glorious in this, not a bad frame in the whole video, and as for his acting, it’s the Apocalypse for God’s Sake, it’s okay to look a little anguished!

    I’m thrilled for him.

  • Sarah Quipayco

MJ: do you have any idea, either given by 19E or just your own, of whether TFM will be one of the 12 songs on the album, a bonus song, or if they will just have 13 songs on the album?

I feel like they won’t want to lose out on one of the songs written by one of the major hitmakers they’ve got, so I would be kind of surprised if the song was one of the 12 tracks, though it’s possible I suppose. I would rather not lose out on a new album track or a bonus track, though if they decide to sacrifice one in exchange for better sales brought by TFM, I won’t be heartbroken. But it would be better if it’s a 13th track, or an extra bonus track. What do you think?

  • ilovekrisallen39

Well am off to bed it’s all ready 12:30 and I have to be up with the guys to get them ready for school, and it takes me forever to sleep. I really enjoyed today. With all the Adam stuff. Hope when I get up later the song well be at least #10, or even closer to the top spot. I hope nothing more exciting things happen before I get back later. Night people.

    Reminder:

I am deleting angry and defensive posts.

  • SparklesATL

I hope the video gets cleaned up some before its official debut on the big screen. Some parts were a little sloppy.

The one standout mistake is in one of the scenes where people are running around him. There is a woman with a big purse over her shoulder that runs by him and in the next scene she’s running by again.

Obviously much of it was filmed “green screen” and the background added later. It’s a little clunky. Like it’s not quite finished.

The song I love and can’t get out of my head.

Change of heart on this. On the first viewing. I loved Adam in it but found the vid pretty meh. After watching another 3 times, I’m convinced this whole thing is going to be flat out awesome on the big screen. Yeah, there are a few places which could do with better cgi but overall I think it’s going to be a huge hit. Very excited and looking forward to seeing it in the theatre.

It makes sense that they would have it on the CD itself rather than as a hidden bonus track or something, but would they really want to miss out on 12 new songs rather than just making it 13? Or is there a rule about 12 songs that I don’t know about?

Thank you for trying to get more specific information, I appreciate it! :)

  • greeneyedlady

I’ve watched the video several times, and while I would never normally be interested in a movie like 2012, I might be interested in seeing it, even if I had never heard of Adam.
Most movies of this type appeal to guys, with OTT special effects, crashing and burning, etc. But the video shows a mysterious man walking through the devastation, singing of love and loss and hope, and as a woman, that is appealing. It brings the tragedy to a personal level, and makes me want to see the movie in order to see how the characters deal with the situation.
And it doesn’t hurt that Adam is absolutely gorgeous, singing in his ethereal voice, like a bedraggled black swan, drawing the viewer in with his piercing eyes.
    Absolutely lovely….

It is #1 on Amazon. I don’t beleive a song can go to #1 on iTunes in under 24 hours. Can’t find an example of it happening.

Archie fans were on here today saying he did it by noon .

Crush did do it — thanks. It was #1 on iTunes the first day — at 7:00PM based on the press reports — so in 19 hours. That is impressive. Wow!

  • Maria22

Just wanted to say how happy I am that the video is out. I am having so much fun listening to the single (yes, it sounds so much better from itunes) and I think he looks great in the video. I am also extremely impressed by the single charting so well and am looking forward to Details and Out magazine soon. Then there are the AMA awards, the album…my head is spinning I can only imagine how happy (and overwhelmed) Adam must feel about all the positive energy in his life.
I am happy for him and happy to be his fan. It’s been an interesting ride so far and I am grateful that somehow I caught ROF and was able to tag along! Can’t wait for what might come next. :)

I really love this video. My brother and sister-in-law came over tonight and they don’t watch American idol at all, never have. They’re not Amish and they buy music, they just like to watch reruns of CSI and shows like NCIS and the like.

I showed them the video, my brother thought it was awesome, said he’d see the movie. My sister-in-law just wanted to know who the hot singer in the cool coat was. They both loved the song and thought it would do awesome!

    Win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ITA! I cannot stop listening to it! And I love the video.

I wonder if the shorter version used in the video will be released for radio. It’s only 4:10.

I hear ya, greeneyedlady. Adam just gliding, gliding, gliding through the devastation. You can’t keep your eyes off of him. He really is the black swan in the middle of chaos.

Why the angst over having TfM on his album? I thought people here liked the song?

  • Q3

BeckyMD: I think I’m the only person who thinks the trailer before TII will be a different video from this one.

There is a new 2012 trailer and a MV for TII that will be premiered in LA on 10/27/09. They haven’t been clear about how much will be different but there is a second, longer version schedule for the 16 10/27/09 premieres. And that one is IMAX with full IMAX sound!

I still can’t imagine how much better Adam will sound in IMAX — that is 6x the quality of CD sound.

  • aa618892

BeckyMD- I agree with you. I believe Adam said they filmed a special trailer with the MV to be shown with the MJ movie not that the actual video would be shown. I am thinking it will be similar with Adam and the extras but not the whole song.

  • http://none tamie2785

Adam is really the best ever, ever, ever!!!

  • aa618892

Wow, just had to watch Adam again before bed. He is one gorgeous man and the vid is great. I can’t believe how well this song is doing, this is much more than I expected. Does anyone have any information when the MV will be available to purchase on itunes?

  • kitkat973

It felt choppy. Oddly thrown together at parts, jarring in a way that had nothing to do with what was going on and everything to do with a lack of connecting thread. Dramatic in parts, theatrically over-acted.

I’m an Adam fan. I enjoy the song. I’m not a fan of this video.

Q3, it’s all amazing. This has been a great day for Adam. Can you imagine how he feels, having his song reach #1 on Amazon? Seeing himself all over the entertainment shows? Thank you greeneyedlady. Beautifully said and my sentiments as well.
I had to come back and watch the video, couldn’t wait until tomorrow.
The more I hear the song the more it hooks me. I can’t stop listening.

I love Adam the character in the video. He is front and center all the way through and I do not get bored in the least. I want more. I want to know who he is and what happened to him.

Adam himself does a brilliant job conveying the depth of emotion called for in context.

Love the video, love Adam. Looking forward to the debut single.

As far as TfM charting today I thought it did great. I wasn’t sure it would break the top 40 and it still has not had radio play. I cannot make comparisons because I don’t have the history that others do but it is a movie soundtrack for an unreleased movie so there is yet time for it to grow.

It was nice to join you all and read everyone’s comments in the middle of the night. Toodleloo.

Thanks Q3 and aa618892, some previous posters were worried that this video would pose Adam unfavoritely in front of larger audience before TII. I like the song and think Adam is gorgeous in the MV but the quality of the MV (editing, cgi, sync etc) is subpar. I just want to make sure a higher quality video featuring Adam will be the trailer before TII.

  • alxsavage

It’s been years since I’ve cared about music videos from my favorite artists. So I feel weird to be so interested on this particular video. But I really like it, I also belong to the rare segment of Adam’s fandom that does not want to sleep with him and do not really care about his looks. But there’s something about him on this video that ignites intensity.

Overacted? It’s just his way of singing, I wouldn’t have expected anything less from him while the world was crumbling down in pieces around him.

The one part that doesn’t work for me is where he is standing at the top of the building, the lack of a smooth chroma key separation jumps on the eye, it makes it too obvious that it was recorded on a blue screen. If you’re gonna go for the fantasy look, embrace the look, make your human character blend the right way in your CGI atmosphere (a la Sky Captain), if you don’t want that, well, make it less obvious that you’re using a CGI, environment, specially if you’re trying to promote a movie that is known to be an special effects extravaganza.

However, I do really, really, really like the video, just as I’m loving the song right now.

I shouldn’t be interested in crappy movies, my internal elitist movie lover feels betrayed, but I keep drowning its voice and can’t help having the feeling that this video will stay on my hard drive as a very cherished and overplayed group of epic bytes.

BTW, his trench coat truly rocks.

Upon several more viewings, ;) the parts of the video where he’s walking through mayhem reminds me of the end of the movie Carrie. You know, after the “blood bath” at the prom and she’s walking home while everything is on fire and the town is being destroyed.

Well, it is said that nothing is original, it’s all been done before.

Johnny Depp ain’t got nothin’ on Adam Lambert. Charismatic, sexy, gorgeous, cute, fine actor … He’s got it. Oh, and the voice.

  • anamazonruns

So, so beautiful. So much talent. I can’t believe they just filmed this thing a few days ago. Although that may account for a couple of choppy edits. I don’t care. I’ll watch this a million times.

Adam is the miracle as far as I’m concerned. His attitude about himself and life and other people, combined with what he can do, changed my attitude about myself and life and other people way for the better.

Fabulous! Even with all the chaos surrounding him – it’s Adam who pulls focus. Quite impressive. So. How do you spell superstar? Why Adam Lambert, of course. Talk about stratospheric career paths!

  • natsmavenus

Am I the only one who doesn’t think this video is what viewers will be watching before TII next week? It does not promote 2012, it promotes TfM. This is the music video for TfM. Adam looks absolutely gorgeous, but the final product shown at TII will have a lot less of his angelic mug, and a lot more of that of the movie’s star, John Cusack – who by the way is not in this video at all. There will also be a lot more movie dialogue in what is shown in the trailer before TII. Not saying the entire song -or most of it – won’t play, just that the focus will be on the movie’s plot and characters. This actually looks like a rush job was done with the editing. Perhaps the main reason a video for TfM was filmed at all was because the TII opportunity came up and they needed some scenes with Adam in it. I don’t believe Adam is overacting here. He is giving the director what he wants. If he was acting calm in the face of chaos he would be getting crap for that too.

To alaadam’s earlier comment re everyone rushing past Adam. You’d think at least one woman would have had the sense to insist Adam make the supreme sacrifice and get to work with her on possibly repopulating the earth!

    I don’t think so!

  • adamaloha

Adam is not the greatest actor but he is entirely appropriate for this video and the movie disaster theme. I don’t really get the “overacting” thing because music videos are not usually realistic or subtle.

There was a director telling Adam what to do. Telling him what to reach for. If Adam was OTT for the effect they wanted the director would have stepped right in and told him to try it another way. They do several takes of each little scene… sometimes even of parts of scenes.

Adam’s first music video. Yay for him!!
He is starting off gangbusters. He will only get better and better.

I think he looks like the most fashionable, sexiest dirty man on earth.

    Love it!!!

No songs are moving but not much.

I have been wondering why TfM is #1 Amazon US but #11 on iTunes — I am sure there are a number of factors but here are two that make sense to me:

    1. Adam has a lot of affluent adult fans and that is the market that Amazon does well with.

    2. Many of the Adam fan sites have information about the higher quality of Amazon MP3 vs. iTunes MP3. So some people may have shifted to Amazon for this purchase.

It will be interesting to see the sales numbers on TfM next week.

  • tamalepie

The very first shot of the video reminds me of Wim Wenders’ “Wings of Desire”–the angel looking down on the foibles of humanity. The rest, well…didn’t, lol.

Adam said in an interview that it would be a bonus track..

Did he? Do you remember where he said that? I thought he said at the AMA thing that he didn’t know if it would be on the album or not.

I suppose it’s possible that it would be on the album as a buy-this-album-get-this-bonus-song thing–that would make it “on the album” but it wouldn’t take the place of one of the 12 songs.

I don’t really know anything about the official, technical aspects of album-making, but it just seems odd to me that they would spend all this money on these major hitmakers, who they are obviously hoping will produce hit songs, only to replace one of those 12 songs with TFM when they could just as easily make it 13 songs, with TFM as kind of an on-album bonus?

Or is there a rule about having 12 songs on the album? Is it way more expensive to make it 12 or something?

I mean, it’s the difference of one song so it’s not a big deal, but I’ll take one more new song if I can get it. :)

Some thoughts: Adam being in the top 10 of Amazon for over 24 days tells me that more then just his fans are interested in him or his fans base is much bigger then what people believe. Yes I know that that does not necessarily mean huge numbers but still something to be glad about. (shows possible staying power). People thinking Adam did not do as well as they thought today I have to disagree. He is number 11 with a song that many have said is not current or representative of today’s music. (to me in some ways I think that is a good thing.) A theme song for a movie that seems (at least from reading on hear) to be considered crap and will bomb. Just because someone else from AI went to number 1 on Itunes faster does not mean that if Adam does in 5 days instead of 24 hours that he is a let down or not as good. (He could stay there for many more weeks.) The Video ( I like ) no matter what you think of it in terms of Quality or not being award worthy ,does show that Adam has the “it” factor. He stands out in the video. The camera loves him. Regardless if he is overacting or not or the video is not 100% in sync. If I did not know who Adam was, and even if I agreed with all the nit-picking critiques, I still would want to know who this person is and would be open to the next project or song he came out with. Adam Sounds absolutely amazing! Which, call me crazy, is really the important thing. This song will be awesome in concert. If anyone thinks it is all that easy to sing, try it. (the dogs in my neighborhood all growl out me now when they see me for attempting to sing the song myself) Everything that is coming from Adam so far to me is Great… I love it and honestly would still love it if he did not sell at all. (But he will and thankfully more people can be introduced to an amazing talent, person, and performer. Peace out.

I have been wondering why TfM is #1 Amazon US but #11 on iTunes ‘” I am sure there are a number of factors but here are two that make sense to me:

    1. Adam has a lot of affluent adult fans and that is the market that Amazon does well with.

    2. Many of the Adam fan sites have information about the higher quality of Amazon MP3 vs. iTunes MP3. So some people may have shifted to Amazon for this purchase.

iTunes has a 69% share of the digital music market. Amazon, however, only has a 7.6% share. That is why many people disregard rankings on Amazon as it represents a small number of people….when compared to iTunes.

Does anyone know if this is True? Is Amazon’s a superior Quality? Why would that be? I may have to buy an Amazon copy just to make sure (Through MJ’s site of course) ;-)

Eff me! Adam looks so freakin’ sexy! I was salivating while watching him. Vocals are on point…love, love love his voice.

However…video’s depiction of chaos is mediocre. I was hoping for something more artistic and subtle….that’s just MY taste.

I’m rooting for Adam and hope he knocks it out of the ball park.

  • lob

Morning all. I literally got tears in my eyes watching this – I’m so happy for him. I think I just realised that he is really going to be presented to the world with this.
As for the video itself, it’s cool and everything I thought it would be, but is the lip-synching a little off, especially in the beginning? It bugged me a bit. (If this has already been discussed, don’t bother to answer – I haven’t had time to read the thread yet, will do so a little later but just wanted to record my first impression :) ).
Oh, and I love his look for the video – it’s perfect for the situation, but I do prefer him a little less scruffy looking, normally.

    All in all – yay!

Tony thanks for that link. Interesting but from what I can see is that while Itunes is a lions share of the market. Amazon is showing a steady and continued growth in the market. Amazon’s presence I think will become more and more respected as their trending up in the market share. we’ll see.

One last question why is this song not classified under Rock Genre too. Whether you like it or not it is a rock song (granted some say Rock Cheesy Ballad but Rock nonetheless).

  • lorismile

Considering TFM had no radio play or any big “debut” and the fact nobody really knew WHEN it was going to be on sale, I think making it to #11 is pretty damn awesome. Hell, I would think it’s awesome even if it had all that stuff. I’m just glad we finally have new Adam music!

I can’t imagine what that beautiful man would look like 30 feet tall on my local IMAX screen. And that voice! that voice on that sound system!!!

    I can’t wait.

People all over the world are going to fall in love with Adam Lambert.

    Congratulations HBIC!!!

Just wanted to say how happy I am that the video is out. I am having so much fun listening to the single (yes, it sounds so much better from itunes) and I think he looks great in the video. I am also extremely impressed by the single charting so well and am looking forward to Details and Out magazine soon. Then there are the AMA awards, the album’ ¦my head is spinning I can only imagine how happy (and overwhelmed) Adam must feel about all the positive energy in his life.
I am happy for him and happy to be his fan. It’s been an interesting ride so far and I am grateful that somehow I caught ROF and was able to tag along! Can’t wait for what might come next.
    ……………………………………………………………..

Well, I predict a Oscar nomination, for best song in a movie.

I truly believe it will happen. Adam sang this song, with such

emotion. He vocally & visually, captures the movie’s

intention. To connect with the viewing audience, and deeply

move them. Yep,…..I feel an Oscar!

My head is spinning too, so off to bed, to dream of a golden

    Oscar, for Adam.

The song writer must be thrilled!

Oh, and also a Grammy, for best song, in the movie!

    Yep, a Grammy too!

The Black Swan, will be soaring! Just think? Now, off to

    Adam DREAMLAND!

  • Sarah Quipayco

Adam, this is the best I have ever ever ever seen you ACT………… and of course, coupled with your magnificent voice and unequaled vocals, you are leaving all the others in your rearview mirror. You’re the best and whatever happens, I firmly believe you’ll be ICONIC. Errrrr, thanks Paula….

Forget about manic, but who has a range like yours – it’s insane, I don’t think they ever existed. You are a really good singer, really (thanks Cara).

  • Grammie Kari

8Jean8, is the song a part of the movie itself? You mentioned the 30 foot screen? Or will it be included as a bonus feature on the DVD?

I am so impressed with Adam’s singing, looks, charisma, and presentation! He is becoming a star! Congratulations!

  • Ladyguard

This video is bad bad bad. Maybe Adam will get lucky and the MJ movie flops. The fewer people who see this, the better.

I disagree with you. I love it.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com honowoowoo

AMAZING! Adam is simply AMAZING! A fantastic video! Just home from work and haven’t read the blog yet … but is this video version available for sale? Love it, love it, love it!!

Is the “arse” back on tonight? Nmind … Going to read now! Woo Hoo! Sqqqquuuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Adamaloha, are you here yet? And jeez, is he GOGEOUS or what? Great job Adam!! :)

  • Daniel B

This is the first time I listened to the song. It’s actually not half bad, though not particularly memorable. For me it’s a B+, not as bad as I feared but not utterly fantastic either. It sounds like a movie song, no doubt about it, like a poor man’s ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’ or ‘Everything I Do (I Do It For You)’.

Again, not bad really. I found it listenable. From the previews I’ve seen, I think the song is going to be more of a hit than the movie, which looks faintly ridiculous, even though I like John Cusack.

  • Ladyguard

Adam lost, obviously his fanbase was smaller than the guy who won. I don’t see what’s so odd to think that is the case.

Everything that has happened since AI ended has not pointed towards Kris having a larger fanbase than Adam. In fact the exact opposite is being shown.

  • Ladyguard

I watched it again…..OMG he is so beautiful.

  • springboard

I think that both the song and the movie are suitable for a cheesy disaster movie promotion.

Now want to hear Adam’s real music. Will it be electro dance pop, electro rock or cheesy MOR pop-rock ballads?

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm. Isn’t it the fact THAT YOU COULD PREORDER from Amazon and not iTunes?

I always buy from iTunes, but prordered from Amazon for the first time to help drive Adam’s numbers up last week. I bet lots of folks did.

  • http://www.f3properties.com Animated

I think my life has turned into a series of I cant’ wait fors …
Every performance and every song we get from Adam , reboots us for the next one. Now I can’t wait to see Adam on the Big Screen !

This is for me the Mother of all Music Videos ….In the beginning his eyes mirrors the pain and confusion that is all around him, and then it appears like his soaring voice could still all the chaos and destruction, and restore calm and bring healing.

I am so glad that Adam was given this chance to sing the soundtrack. Hard to forget him after seeing this. This will be very good indeed for his career.

  • alxsavage

4:55 am around here…had too watch it one more time before going to bed after getting some urgent work done. I really love it.

  • http://www.f3properties.com Animated

I think the TFM Music Video will help increase song sales. Though I think they should sell the Music Video on iTunes and Amazon as I think this will get more sales as Adam is a visual candy.
Look at the songs ahead of TFM in iTunes , these are mostly songs that twenty and below would be downloading. The video visuals of TFM would be more an attraction for them rather than just the song.
They probably would be the market for dance electro pop tunes. That would be Adam’s album lead single.

  • mitchellvii

Yep, they fixed the synching problem at the beginning. Good.

I don’t like when Adam does that “growl-ly” sound with his voice. It’s unnecessary and takes away from the beauty of his tone. It’s like he is TRYING to make his voice sound rock. He doesn’t need to do that.

  • flicker

To the person who asked if there is something wrong with itunes –

I’ve been watching the Glee songs, and Sweet Caroline is slowly climbing, through last night to this morning. So I don’t think itunes is broken.

Regarding Amazon – I remember when Bo Bice was number one in preorders for the longest time. Carrie always trailed him, sometimes by a lot. I was a Bo fan, and I thought he would sell a bajillion CDs, and poor Carrie, well, she’d have modestly good sales…… ummm, we know how that turned out.

The lesson I learned is that Amazon doesn’t tell the story. I think Adam will have great sales, but don’t put too much stock in the Amazon ranking.

I wasn’t moved by the video. Does anyone else think that Adam isn’t a very good actor?

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

Uh oh. Just come right out and say I don’t like the vid much. Had they left out all the green screen shots (on the roof, seeking proof), I think I would like it more. The street scenes are pretty good, though.
With that said, I will be watching anyway – I like to watch Adam sing while listening to him singing.

  • TXArchitect

Adam’s styling of TfM is just so amazing! I can’t even get a grip on the melody, let alone the key change and the range – and I think it’s wierd not to be able to sing along with a song. Very unusual and intregeing

Now, Oh My Ra – I’ve got down pat.

  • Studio57

You know you got Lambertitis bad when you wake up in the morning, get out of bed and head straight for the computer BEFORE your morning cup of coffee.

Flicker- that was the same year I realized it too- when everyone bought Constantines album after he got voted off and it charted pretty well ( top 10). But when the sale numbers came out it was something like 13,000. And I have a feeling Amazon was bigger back then becausae Itunes was just getting started.

The other thing too though- we have no idea how many units the top 10 are selling. It just seems so weird he hit that wall after so much momentum. I think #11 is great for a soundtrack song.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

I wasn’t moved by the video. Does anyone else think that Adam isn’t a very good actor?

Adam was acting in the video? Where?

Not sure how much acting you can do when you’re singing while always staring at the camera. The few reaction shots when people jostle him while running past him on the road can hardly be called acting.

Just to clear a little misinformation. Apple’s(itunes plus) AAC format is superior to Amazon’s antiquated MP3 format.

Apple’s codec is more sophisticated and powerful than MP3′s. One example, AAC handles sounds above 16KHz better. The overall AAC algorithm uses approximately like 52 channels compared with MP3′s 2-channel approach.

The only advantage of MP3 is that is more widely compatible than AAC, and if you have an ipod, you have nothing to worry about.

  • Planet Fierce

OMG some new visuals of Adam singing!!!!!! I love the distressed look, the dazed eyes, the “somebody please lick my lips for me they are so dry”….oh, excuse me I ah forgot where I was there for a minute. He is freaking awesome. The man knows how to pull off whatever look he needs to sell the moment and the music. Anything that may be wrong with this (and I think it’s great frankly) has nothing to do with him, so to me it’s all good for Adam. Again, it’s a disaster movie!!!!

  • Ladyguard

I wasn’t moved by the video. Does anyone else think that Adam isn’t a very good actor?

I don’t think Adam’s acting is what is important in the video….it’s his singing that is important.

LOVE the video, LOVE the song….adam looks hot and sounds great….video is pretty much what I expected it would be…obviously sony thinks that this song and video are going to help both adam and the movie because they have started promoting it and are gonna include it (or something like it) in the specal trailer…i think the video is going to get a lot of play on VH1 (did we ever figure out how adam got to the top of the most popular artist list?) and maybe on mtv…during the 1 hour a day that either of these channels play music videos anymore…

Interesting… the TFM single on iTunes Canada has been available for a few days already but still lists its release date as Oct 23, 2009. Typo or was the release pushed up because of all the internet leaks everywhere?

I thought the love scenes were a little stiff, but his delivery in the dramatic court scenes was great imo.

    ROFL!

    2. Many of the Adam fan sites have information about the higher quality of Amazon MP3 vs. iTunes MP3. So some people may have shifted to Amazon for this purchase.

The only way to get MP3s from iTunes is to make them yourself. As Rub mentions above, the iTunes format is AAC which generally achieves better sound quality than MP3 at similar bit rates. The following are AAC filename extensions – .m4a, .m4b, .m4p, .m4v, .m4r, .3gp, .mp4, .aac.

Besides iPods/iPhones, AAC is supported by more recent models of mobile phones from Sony-Ericsson, Nokia and those that use the Android operating system.

I’m trying to make myself love this music video, but I just can’t. I hate the cheesy/fake looking background. I also see what people mean by the “acting.” He emotes much better live. BUT this is his first music video! It’s a digital effects frenzy of a movie. And he didn’t exactly have much control over how they directed him to do the video.
ETA: I truly believe the music videos for his first single (and album) are going to amazing and much better!

Of course, it doesn’t matter what I say. Adam is apparently very happy with it, great!

It’s the first time (musically) that I haven’t loved something he did. I really like Adam singing the song. I just dislike the video. My enthusiasm has died a tiny bit because of it, but I’m still very excited for his album.

  • glamatheart

Let’s see. Super hot guy singing his ass off while the earth is being destroyed around him. Yep, works for me. But I agree, his acting could have been a little more ‘subtle’. Perhaps a flaming headdress would have added the necessary gravitas.

Adam looks like a star. He sings his face off. He looks sexy with dirt on his face and tight pants and a cool scarfy thing around his neck.
He brings rock star glamor to a big budget movie. His voice is divine…

That’s a trollish prank imo. The poster couldn’t provide a URL link or a screencap or a ripped audio to support her claim. Just a scanned paper image. Surely anyone who can operate a scanner and an upload knows how to do a screencap. It’s also convenient that the song she mentioned happened to be reported just a week earlier in a magazine article.
The poster also said she heard the sing, but refused to answer any questions about. She wouldn’t say one word to describe it.

My judgement on this rumor is that it’s untrue. A poorly executed hoax (unlike the balloon boy incident which will go down in trolling history as full of epic WIN!!)

I can’t agree here. I see what you all are saying aobut it being tighter… but I love the longer version, which to me sounds downright majestic.

I love the video.. as is.

I hate to say I’d actually prefer to hear less of his awesome vocals, but the last part of the single after the bridge is just too convoluted, to me. I like the song and Adam sounds incredible. The chorus has a great hook on “time for miracles.” The video–I think the director should have cut more of the substance of the movie into it. It isn’t until the last minute of the movie that we see John Cusack and Amanda Peet. It seems like a pretty simple disaster movie love story plot, which is perfect for a music video.

Had they left out all the green screen shots (on the roof, seeking proof), I think I would like it more.

Agree. They had two disaster movie sets w/extras for Adam, which were expensive and impressive. But the green screen really sucked the energy down.

I dont see it as acting, just putting emotion in the singing

Umm. Good acting is living the experience. Re: Adam’s acting–I think he’s very restrained here, given his theater/stage performance background, and I think it’s good. The video is aimed at mainstream–he’s not wearing a lot of makeup–just a dark brooding person.

  • JazzRocks

Adam looks awesome in this video…one of his best looks ever. I love the song and his voice is, of course, incredible. The only criticism I have is the choppy editing. I assume that will be fixed for the roll-out.

  • Suzanne

Does anyone know for sure if he was offered while still on AI?

While on AI last year, I know that David Archuleta was offered a spot in High School Musical 3, which was a summer release film, so the offer probably came in really early in the competition. He declined it, which in hindsight does seem like a mistake–it was a huge move–but maybe he feared being mentally diverted from the competition. With this fall release for Adam, the timing couldn’t be better–it’s this huge exposure right after the tour. Incredible for “Adam Lambert–the product.”

  • Tara

Thank you Rub. Good information. Can I ask one more?

When you download from itunes, as I did from here to get TFM, is it lesser quality once I download from my computer to a Cd than if I waited and bought a CD from Amazon/ Barnes and Noble.etc.???

  • Suzanne

The only criticism I have is the choppy editing. I assume that will be fixed for the roll-out.

You know, I think it could use faster-paced editing for the bridge of the song to add excitement. (I have a bit of a problem with the editing and pace of the video in general.) Adam’s great, but the whole entertainment experience could be more compelling.

  • adamaloha

I LOVE the “acting” once past the bridge where it really kicks in…

Adam is wailing his heart out and his face and body reflect that anguish and anger and even defiance… it’s a physically thrilling and draining emotional experience for him and for me, the viewer.

If he was more “subtle” how would that match his all out kick ass vocals?

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

This Adam fan certainly recognizes that he’s overacting in some scenes. Most specifically, the ones when he is shown singing on the rooftop, with overly intense facial expressions and dramatic hands reaching for the camera. I think he looks better in the scenes on the street — this is probably because is was directed to be ambivlant to the destruction going on around him.

But the overacting is fine, after all it’s a freakin’ disaster porn movie! I mean, hasn’t anyone noticed the acting from John Cusak and company?

  • 4Msrmyn

Just my two cents about Adam’s acting in the video. I think he would have had to rely on the director for the context to get appropriate facial expressions and gestures. It doesn’t seem like he would know exactly what would be edited in around him while he sings. The director could say look angry, sad, ready to fight, etc. I think the director would need to make sure to what is needed. The beginning on the roof and the parts where it looks like he’s going to get knocked down by crazy panicked people look fine. Anyway, that’s the way I pictured it happening. If someone could explain how the video would really be put together, I’d be interested.

  • Kirsten

My judgement on this rumor is that it’s untrue. A poorly executed hoax (unlike the balloon boy incident which will go down in trolling history as full of epic WIN!!)

Ugh. And now it’s 2012 relevant because the dude apparently intended to use the hoax to get a television show so that he could make lots of moolah and buy a bunker to protect himself from the effects of 2012 of which he is an ardent believer.

but the last part of the single after the bridge is just too convoluted, to me. Actually, not too much Adam, but too much orchestra. The mix just isn’t right to me; sounds like two songs are playing at the same time.

Yeah, the orchestra goes a little crazy there. I got enough on my damn plate with the world ending already. Do I have to deal with a storm of killer bees too?

The videos fine. It’s the music video for a disaster movie. If it wasn’t overwrought, I’d be surprised.

  • lurksalot

I’m now sitting here wondering if this is the video that will be presented with TII. Don’t think so. Think someone else mentioned that the preview will focus more on Cusack and the cast and film. And for the ending credits thing, we may just get the song and not this video.

Haha you’re right. Makes adam seem almost tame.

Still love Adam’s “overacting”– which to me means nothing more than being carried away by the song.

  • Kirsten

    1. Making it to #11 on itunes isn’t that impressive, even for a song with zero radio play and even though the other guys single only made it as high as #28

I’m not sure why the other guy is relevant except that it indicates that this season, like Season 6, is struggling to move units. Archie and Cook set the benchmark for Idol singles last year and I’m kind of shocked that this season is failing to measure up. I initially thought that the lower post-Finale numbers were due to people buying more singles during the season. Now, I’m not so sure.

I really don’t think the few spins that Cook and Archie had for their singles last year compares with the massive exposure that Adam got this past week, but YMMV. I’m deeply puzzled because the Adam online fanbase seems larger than those for Cook and Archie and every bit as dedicated. Those are the people that normally run a song up to the top 5 in the first 24 hours.

It will be interesting to see how this season unfolds. I’m recalibrating my expectations for album sales.

  • DLee

Why the angst over having TfM on his album? I thought people here liked the song?

Because it might mean we get one less song.

  • Tara

Koshka. Yes, much more ott than Adam. And did you catch that tongue twirl. Rivals Adams tongue action.

I thought that overall it is a success. His vocals are outstanding, gah..and he looks fantastic. I even liked the rooftop shots. Especially when he throws his arms up and out, the coating falling open, chest out. This could however just be a fangirly moment.

  • Lynneville

The ending credits will most certainly NOT be the video.. jsut the song. But i expect it’ll blow us away with the surround sound quality.

And I am also pretty sure this vid we’re looking at is not what will show before TII– the have some finessing to do.. and i suspect they will show more of the actual movie.

Does anyone know if the video will be at the end of the movie 2012 or just the song

Likely just the song will play over the extensive end credits of the film. The music video is for promotional purposes on music video tv channels and the internet.

  • universal

I’m deeply puzzled because the Adam online fanbase seems larger than those for Cook and Archie and every bit as dedicated.

I was just wondering what part the international fanbase plays in the online fanbase? I didn’t follow AI last year so I don’t know how much international buzz Cook and Archie had. But following the discussions about Adam it seems that there are a lot of international fans taking part in the online discussions.

  • adamaloha

I initially thought that the lower post-Finale numbers were due to people buying more singles during the season. Now, I’m not so sure.

Kirsten, unless you know the season sales numbers you really still cannot make a judgment on this.

  • emmuzka

The video looks nice, but cheaply made. It’s like they got the right idea with the “walking forward while people running around like headles chickens”-concept, but somehow run out of material and had to use much more of the cheap-ass CGI rooftop material than what was originally intended. Which raises the question of why didn’t they use the most common way to bail them out and just used more material from the movie.

Also, this is a great example of how the budgets for music videos are cut down because there isn’t a sure-shot, high def release format like television available anymore. Why put thousands for a video that will be viewed as a pixelated five inch mess, anyway? But they still should have used more time for the rooftop shots.

  • Kate8

Wow, I love his look in this video. I really always loved his passion and love for singing as much as his unbelievable vocals. It is inspiring to see someone doing something he loves so much,so well. I hope Adam is very successful, he has the talent and has worked very hard.

  • koshka

Kirsten, could the fact that it was also released in most other countries before effect the numbers? Less gifting of songs to those in other countries in which the song is unavailable??
Because isn’t it top 10 in Canada and Finland? And rising on all the countries charts as well as the US one?
IDK, Im impressed but Im a newbie round these parts.

LOL, koshka!! That is hysterical. Adam’s OTTiest OTT is about 1/10 of Tyler’s.

  • lizziegs

woke up this morning and watched it again – love it even more than last night. wow – he is so beautiful and his voice is just crazy. The only thing wrong with the video it is that if I didn’t know any better and went to see the movie on the basis of seeing it I would be deeply annoyed that the gorgeous “bedraggled black swan” isn’t in it! No disrespect to John Cusack of course…

  • lucy

Although saying that Depp’s a better actor and Adam’s a better singer is probably a safe bet.

    Indeed.

And when it comes to charisma and beauty, I think I might give it a tie. (I’m very glad that we have both of them, in other words — wouldn’t want one to disappear from view because the other is “better” in some way, lol.)

As for the video and song. Well, if they were just a video and a single from a recording, I wouldn’t like them much, though I would still think that Adam does an absolutely fabulous job singing and a perfectly credible job by music-video standards “acting” in them. Love the “bedraggled black swan” look, even though I wouldn’t want him to abandon his glitter prince look entirely to be that bird.

But as a song and a video intended to be seen on a big movie screen and in tandem with an uber-cheesy disaster-love-story movie, I think they’re both perfect (even though the video has some glitchy stuff in it, kind of …) The repetitious cheesy song with Adam’s way dramatic singing evokes the perfect mood, seems to me.

  • mr

Well, I’m an international fan, and I can’t download anything (I could only manage to pre-order his album on amazon- Yay!!)
And I know lots of people here who love Adam and would pay for his stuff, only they can’t…

And I had never heard of any of the previous Idols except Kelly Clarkson- and then Jennifer Hudson AFTER she won the Oscar- so don’t be discouraged, people- when he becomes available worldwide- I’m positive he’ll do great!!!

  • adamaloha

IA Lucy, and I do think there will be re-editing done for the TII version. This is great but it does look like it was rushed…. and I expect they’ll take a lot longer time and more care with a video that’ll be up on big screens around the world.

Agree with you about Depp and Adam– there’s certainly room for both. Lucky us!!

  • Studio57

I’m not sure why the other guy is relevant except that it indicates that this season, like Season 6, is struggling to move units. Archie and Cook set the benchmark for Idol singles last year and I’m kind of shocked that this season is failing to measure up.

What peak did Cook reach on Itunes and when? I know he didn’t get to number one, and he sold 109.000 his first week- debuting at#17 on billboard.

Archie’s first single Crush was the perfect song for Itunes, and Light On rode on the tails of the Nickelback craze. Rock seems to be dead again, and especially a classic rock sound so this song did exceed my expectations. I am going to wait to hear Adam’s REAL first song before I judge his success to last year, because the direction he seems to be going in is what is playing on the radio now.

Let’s not forget- Adam WILL be debuting his new single in less then a month. He will have two songs on the charts at the same time. I think when this happens no one will be saying that this year can’t measure up to last.

  • unique28v

I love the song and video, but with all the buzz around it I guess we will be waiting 2 or 3 more weeks now until his single is out? Not that I’m complaining, lol.

I”m thinking it’ll come out in a couple of weeks. So its out there for about 2-3 weeks before Adam performs it on the AMAs award.

But yeah, this time for miracles video is going to look real epic on the big screen. I have my TII tickets for next Saturday. Can’t wait to see both Adam and MJ!!

  • DLee

AFTERMATH sounds like a cool song title.

  • 4Msrmyn

I would like to hear him sing TfM live. Watching Adam live is always a pleasure. The video we have is better than none. I just don’t know if TfM would fit into his concert.

  • dyg1

I am sure there are a number of factors but here are two that make sense to me:

    1. Adam has a lot of affluent adult fans and that is the market that Amazon does well with.

    2. Many of the Adam fan sites have information about the higher quality of Amazon MP3 vs. iTunes MP3. So some people may have shifted to Amazon for this purchase.

Let me give you another reason (mine, at least). TFM is not available on iTunes Spain, but I can buy from Amazon UK. Same goes for the Album.

  • Mary102

They did the whole thing in 12 hours. Why so quickly? Don’t know, but I thought it was pretty good. I have not noticed all the little discrepancies people are picking up I can’t take my focus off his face and body, he looks WOW!

Yeah – all the more impressive considering the insanely tight schedule they had to both film this and put it all together. Wow indeed.

As for the acting – I agree that Adam is doing pretty much what he should in a mv like this for a song and movie like this – perfectly fits the angsty, somewhat OTTedness of the song and film themselves. I think Adam is actually a really good actor (Best Week Ever clip? That kind of comedic timing is NOT easy).

I’m not sure why the other guy is relevant except that it indicates that this season, like Season 6, is struggling to move units. Archie and Cook set the benchmark for Idol singles last year and I’m kind of shocked that this season is failing to measure up. Those are the people that normally run a song up to the top 5 in the first 24 hours.

I really don’t see how we can yet compare TFM with the first singles of the Davids last year – as far as even most Adam fans are concerned, this song is not at all rolled out like a typical “first official” single would be. It doesn’t have the airplay leading up to it, the Adam interviews ABOUT TFM etc. As far as even many of us are concerned, it is just NOT the same as his first official single.

Sure, the AI bases make up a huge part of the initial sales for all the contestants, but whenever the song is out there ahead of time, and being pimped as the first single, etc, it is also picking up other purchasers, plus the AI fanbase that CONSIDERS it the first single.

Kinda hard to make the point I want to, but I’m just not getting how TFM can really be compared to how Cook and Archie did with their first singles. JMO of course.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

When you download from itunes, as I did from here to get TFM, is it lesser quality once I download from my computer to a Cd than if I waited and bought a CD from Amazon/ Barnes and Noble.etc.???

    The short answer is “yes”.

CDs store uncompressed audio at a bit rate of 1,411.2 kbit/s. AAC (iTunes standard format) and MP3 are both lossy compressed formats, meaning while file sizes are much smaller than CD audio, there is a trade-off in reduced audio fidelity as well.

I really don’t see how we can yet compare TFM with the first singles of the Davids last year ‘“ as far as even most Adam fans are concerned, this song is not at all rolled out like a typical ‘first official’ single would be. It doesn’t have the airplay leading up to it, the Adam interviews ABOUT TFM etc. As far as even many of us are concerned, it is just NOT the same as his first official single.

Mary102, I totally agree but folks love to make comparisons anyway.

It’s relevant because if people think getting to #11 is a disappointment then they must think only making it to #28 is an absolute disaster.

I don’t know any number watcher that thinks it’s a good sign. It means that he doesn’t have a very large strong on-line, dedicated fan base. One can always gain new fans, but it doesn’t show a strong initial fan base. And #11 shows that Adam’s fan base isn’t as large or as strong as Cook or Archie either. It’s stronger than Kris’s, though. So, yay! I guess. My point is that both sets of numbers are a sign for concern and taken together they are worse. The point is not to outsell the other guy, it’s to sell enough units to stay signed. If Adam gets dropped (and I’m not saying he is), it’s cold comfort if Kris gets dropped too. IMO.

Kirsten, could the fact that it was also released in most other countries before effect the numbers? Less gifting of songs to those in other countries in which the song is unavailable??

iTunes normally releases songs in Canada and US at the same time. Usually it does it worldwide. Where the gifting comes in is for fans that live in countries with no iTunes at all (or for those fans that cannot afford the $1.29).

  • gulfluv

Oooh, that is a cool video! I like when he is walking down the sidewalk with mayhem all around and people bumping into him, but he presses on, believing in miracles :) My favorite part of the song is the last minute or so when he gets to let loose, and its great to see him sing it, too.

Yep, I think so, too. For one thing, I can’t imagine that they’re really giving it *all* away in this “preview.” Just as the song has come out in a higher-quality version, so will the video, I expect.

On TFM and Adam concerts — It might make a very nice third encore!

  • abbysee

I won’t make any judgements about sales until Adam is seen on the big screen opening for MJ’s TII. And his performance at the AMA’s and his own single drops. I also wonder why we must be alarmed that Adam rose to #11 in a day, yet a few weeks ago we were told that this is a waiting game, and that some songs climb more slowly than others. Someone keeps rewriting the playbook and it’s getting confusing.

Okay, so I liked Adam during his run on AI but I wasn’t doing cartwheels or anything.

This video has, seriously, sent me over the top. If his album is anything like this video, it’s going to be freakin’ awesome. Gah!

Good point – first, this is very new to him (sure he’s acted a lot, but something of this scale, etc. – not so much). Second, acting with a green screen, even for veteran actors, is very very difficult – you really need a lot of backup from the director to get the sense of what’s going on – and with the tight schedule, etc. you don’t have much wriggle room to nail it.

Well, I sent my friend the video this morning. She never watched American Idol and gets sick of hearing me talk about Adam. This is what she sent me via email after watching the video:

OMG’ ¦.SOOOO GOOD! I was resistant in the beginning but I just might have to jump on your Adam bandwagon. He is just dirty hot.

So yeah’ ¦ score one for Adam’ ¦.and by dirty hot she means Johnny Depp hot’ ¦

    LOL! Dirty hot indeed :-)

Last year, neither LO nor Crush were released internationally as singles, only as part of the album when they got released. I am absolutely certain about the UK at least.

ITA. And I would also add that until yesterday TFM wasn’t really expected to chart at all because it was too long, cheesy and outdated. But now at #11 it’s a failure. Okay.

Bravo to who wrote tfm and director of video. Adam did wonderful!!!Bravo Adam tender emotion and beautiful vocals. BRAVO ADAM!!!!!

It’s a song that is sung by Adam. Adam has been featured as singing the song. When I see the video, I see Adam singing the song. When I look on iTunes, I see Adam’s name listed as singing the song. When I watched ET for the last two nights, they prominently featured that Adam singing the song. When I read articles about the song, I see that Adam is singing the song.

This is the first song that Adam has released in months to a song starved fan base. Adam fan bases have every insentive to buy this song like there is no tomorrow to prove that he is the next best thing. Idol fan bases by the crap out of the first songs. I’ve not heard a large swell in the Adam fanbase saying “This song sucks donkey balls. I’m not buying this piece of crap”. I’ve seen a lot of squeeing, so I’m given the impression they like it. So, why aren’t they buying it? Or are they buying it and there just aren’t that many of them (shocks the hell out of me).

I’ve heard for months that this guy’s buzz is off the chart. That the entire world cares about him. That he’s featured everywhere like no other Idol before him. If so, why isn’t he getting the numbers that other Idols have managed?

I’m not writing the dude off. He can gain new fans. All that the first 24 hours speaks to is his existing fan base. #11 is pretty darn good, it’s just not in the realm of the great Idols that came before. Sure, he’s beating the “other guy”, but the other guy isn’t offering much competition. Some people who post here don’t even know his name.

  • Mary102

Still can’t see how we can compare them though, Kirsten. Didn’t Crush get a TON of airplay before it was released? At that point it is not just the AI fanbase that knows about and is buying the song. And Light On was probably set up with some airplay, interviews, etc. Not at all the same as what has happened with TFM.

Plus, not sure how much this is taken into account, but it sounds like there are Adam fans out there (maybe even many) who are NOT purchasing TFM because this is not his style, and they are viewing it in the context of being for a movie first and foremost. Many people seem to be saying they’re waiting for the “official” single. Again, just trying to put things in perspective.

I think making it to #11 on Itunes and #1 on Amazon in one day is awesome. Wait until TFM gets radio play and the video is shown on VH1 not to mention the exposure it will get from TII. It’s just getting started. I’m not sure why there’s so much negativity. I think Adam is off to a great start.

  • Mary102

I also wonder why we must be alarmed that Adam rose to #11 in a day, yet a few weeks ago we were told that this is a waiting game, and that some songs climb more slowly than others. Someone keeps rewriting the playbook and it’s getting confusing.

    ^^ THIS! Great point.

  • boredinschool

Personally, I dont care that it isn’t selling as well as those from years previous but I understand what Kirsten’s saying.

Im personally just wondering why it’s stuck at 11! Seems weird to me.

  • unique28v

Jim from MTV likes the video at least. I know he was iffy on the song. Here’s his tweet:

jambajim “Time For Miracles” music vid = awesome! We knew he worked as an actor before, but now we know that boy can ACT. Wow Wow WOW! @adamlambert

  • tinawina

What peak did Cook reach on Itunes and when?

It got to number 3 on ITunes. It was released at midnight and peaked at 3 the following afternoon.

Archie’s first single Crush was the perfect song for Itunes, and Light On rode on the tails of the Nickelback craze.

Cook’s album was released the same day as Nickleback’s, not the single.

I’m deeply puzzled because the Adam online fanbase seems larger than those for Cook and Archie and every bit as dedicated. Those are the people that normally run a song up to the top 5 in the first 24 hours.

I never thought Adam’s fanbase was all that massive, or he would have won. But I agree that with all the online fervor and the Adam hype it did seem like he would shoot to the top. 11 is not horrible though, it’s pretty damn good. He has a strong fanbase IMO. He’ll open well I think.

Again, we’re splitting hairs in a way, because this kind of stuff only matters for the first couple of weeks of album sales, then people have to like then outside the bubble.

  • Mary102

Im personally just wondering why it’s stuck at 11! Seems weird to me.

I think someone may have said before that the Top 10 can be hard to crack – the higher up you move, I’m thinking, the more new units you need to sell to get to the next spot. (Imaging, for instance, that the difference between spot 100 and 99 may only be 10 downloads, while the differences between 10 and 9 may be 10,000.) Just a thought.

  • AnninSD

    I’d like to add that in comparison, Time for Miracles to I Don’t want to Miss a Thing;
    So Far
TFM – #11 on itunes, #1 on Amazon less than 24 hours
we don’t yet know the future couple of weeks with continuing promotion it could still rise.

IDWTMAT – released August 18th, but wikipedia says it debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100; September 5th and stayed #1 for 4 weeks. the stats for the Aerosmith song end up as:
    U.S. Billboard Hot 100 – 1
    U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks – 4
    U.S. Adult Contemporary – 13

How does something release August 18th and debut on Billboard later? Does this have to do with radio play, spins, etc.?

Its hard to compare epic disaster songs when we don’t have the full picture yet.

I like the video. I have said previously in this thread I believe its more like a commercial for Adam and it works on that level.

The song will/is doing well. I think it is only good for Adam.

  • Kirsten

Someone keeps rewriting the playbook and it’s getting confusing.

It’s a book. There is more than one rule in the book. And the rules do change from year to year because the industry is changing. Here are a few suggested rules:

Idol fan bases are good at getting songs to the top of the iTunes chart (and anything poll related). If you can’t get to the top of the chart in 24 hours, that says something about how big and dedicated your fan base is.

Promo is good. If more promo doesn’t result in increased sales, that’s a bad sign.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. While big initial numbers are a good sign (it gets you good press and attention), it’s the long haul that matters. You can still build a fanbase just like other artists out there.

Just because the other guy falters, it doesn’t mean that any old numbers are a good sign for you.

Off to stock up on asbestos underwear.

  • springboard

Still can’t see how we can compare them though, Kirsten. Didn’t Crush get a TON of airplay before it was released? At that point it is not just the AI fanbase that knows about and is buying the song. And Light On was probably set up with some airplay, interviews, etc. Not at all the same as what has happened with TFM.

Yes, Crush already taken off on the radio when it was released, but Light On only had a few spins, not enough to make a difference. It premiered on AOL, with little fanfare, a small itunes add, similar to the one Kris had, and hardly any interviews. Adam has has TV promo, banners on itunes and MTV.
I am a fan, but there is no hiding that it’s not, so far, going too well. We’ll have to see how it fares in the next few days.

  • unique28v

It’s a song that is sung by Adam. Adam has been featured as singing the song. When I see the video, I see Adam singing the song. When I look on iTunes, I see Adam’s name listed as singing the song. When I watched ET for the last two nights, they prominently featured that Adam singing the song. When I read articles about the song, I see that Adam is singing the song.

But it isn’t Adam’s song. Adam is the vocalist but it is being promoted as the theme song for a movie. Even the banner’s on Itunes says 2012. Its not an Adam Lambert song but a 2012 song. Its all about perception. I watched Access HOllywood and ET this week as well and the song was always tied in with the movie. The host even said, what did Adam Lambert think when he was approached with singing the theme song for the big blockbuster movie 2012…….

I’m not a fan of comparing, but if we’re going to do it, we should wait until his first single (the one he is singing at the AMA’s comes out).

As far as number watchers are concerned, if they are concerned about anyone it should be Kris right about now. I haven’t read anything that is projecting Adam’s doom with the exception of blog comments. Especially since its only been a day and a half….

I remember hearing about that too, but this is the longest stall it’s had and I hope that it’ll crack the top 10 soon. *crosses fingers*

I remember a few days ago people were saying it would be hard for him to reach #40 and to not expect it. I think that once TII comes out it’ll rise exponentially, and if it doesn’t well that sucks, but we still have his single to look forward to. Que sera sera.

  • LaurelG

My thoughts, now that I’ve had a chance to ponder the video.

    1. Whoever said upthread (Sunn?) that the shortened version of the song works better was absolutely right, imo. It still packs a wallop at the end and I think the tightened version would sound better on the radio.

    2. I also agree with those who thought the video editing could have been better. I’m wondering though if certain details that seem off are only apparent to those of us who are Adam fans or Adam haters who are laser focused on him to the exclusion of everything else. For me, the big distraction was the hair. In back-to-back shots, the part was different, the comb out was different. Couldn’t they just change the clothes but keep the hair the same? But you know what? The average person probably won’t even notice.

    3. The acting. I’m glad somebody posted that Steven Tyler video, ’cause I almost linked to it last night. To those who keep harking back to Adam’s musical theatre background and saying it all seems like overacting to them, what’s your explanation for Tyler’s moves? Last I checked, his background isn’t in musical theatre. :) Seriously, it’s all in the editing. If the editor splices in too many shots with the same arm gestures, it seems repetitive and overdone. Adam can’t control every variable. All he can do is sing the hell out of the song, which he did.

    4. It sounds like I’m being critical, but I’m actually very pleased with the video. Adam sounds incredible (c’mon people, it’s far and away the most important part) and looks like a damn fine chimney sweep. When he hits that 3 minute mark … well, that part makes the whole video for me right there.

Just looking at the archives to kind of compare Light On to TFM- it was released early morning September 30th. If you want to see the archive thread it’s here :http://mjsbigblog.com/david-cook-light-on-drops-on-itunes-today.htm/comment-page-8#comments

We are talking about 2 different things. One is the initial day’s sales as a measure of the online fanbase, one is the natural life span of a song getting airplay, and whether that song will end up a hit. If Adam goes for adds you’ll be prompted to wait a few weeks to judge it’s fate as well.

  • ptslittlecomment

Stage actors frequently have trouble transitioning from the stage, where expressions have to be large and overdone to be seen past the fourth row, to film where everything is played down because there is a camera stuck right in your face catching every little tic. (I frequently hear direcotrs give stage actors the note “you’re doing film” in rehearsals because they are too reigned in.)

That having been said Adam – who has said he didn’t think himself to be the best actor- is just fine in this video. He’s emoting the feelings of his lyrics and he is selling the product. Character wise he’s trying to convey his feelings to someone he loves and is losing (via the camera) while the world blows up around him. That would cause anyone to go a little overboard.

  • http://twitter.com/terra_zephead terraj

OMG. I just watched the TFM video in its entirety for the first time. I LOOOOOVE IT. He’s so filthy and hot in it lol (being completely shallow here).
But what’s up with the wrong aspect ratio for such a major release? Web team needs to be fired or something. It’s clearly shot for widescreen but flash version on myspace has been wrongly encoded in 4:3. This has been a common occurrence for most (if not all) the videos found on AdamOfficial. It’s really annoying.

Personal anecdote: while on the bus to pick up my copy of Details Magazine (YES it’s actually available in Singapore on newsstands before you US people) and in some of the buses we have mobile televisions. They were playing ET’s TFM snippet just 4 mins before I was about to get off. Cooool.

  • dot_jp

    Really better than none.
The problem of this video is not only money and time but the lack of attention.
I often feel the same defects on American TV dramas and movies, too clean people looking like just out of hair salons in the time of the very danger.
    The lack of reality.
I’ve never found it on European dramas and movies.

If they intend to provide this video world-wide, they should darken the street scene…. need a lot of editing, IMO.

  • Kirsten

How does something release August 18th and debut on Billboard later? Does this have to do with radio play, spins, etc.?

Back in the days of yore, they used to not release singles for sale for a few weeks after releasing the song to radio. The Hot 100 consists of both airplay and sales (and, recently streaming). So, labels would wait until the airplay was high enough before releasing the song for sale so that they could debut high on the Hot 100. But, then people started stealing songs so it made more sense to stop encouraging it and allow people the option to buy the song.

I don’t know the history of “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”, but it’s probably either that or that is when the movie came out.

  • carol522

I usually just read this board and wonder where people find the time to follow every aspect of Adam’s life and watch download charts. At this point; however, I must voice my opinion.

    1) Not all Adam fans have downloaded this song simply because we haven’t had an opportunity and believe it or not some fans (like me) really would like to buy the entire CD.
    2) One day does not make or break a career. Big money has been invested in Adam and he will deliver. Speculating regarding a record label dropping either Adam or Kris is way premature at this point.
    3) Adam hasn’t done many radio interviews promoting the song and the release wasn’t very smooth. It will pick up steam over the the next few days as radio stations rework their playlists.
    4) It’s a music video for a disaster movie! Should he be sitting a piano or having dinner and a glass of wine?

I love watching Adam Lambert and those piercing blue eyes and I love this video. To borrow the popular abbreviation…YMMV

  • Gigi3

Although saying that Depp’s a better actor and Adam’s a better singer is probably a safe bet.

I’m sure both statements are true, but I did enjoy Depp’s singing quite a bit in Sweeny Todd, although the film is certainly not for the faint of heart.

So, It looks about the same as Adam’s on the first day. How can it be said that Adam is doing so terrible in comparison?

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

To my fellow Adam fans: why would we not be a little bit surprised about the single stalling out at #11? I recognize there are factors that may be holding it back, but there are others that are propelling it forward, too. Plus, when I posted the poll yesterday about when it would reach the Top #10, the results looked approximately like this:

    A) 90% thought it would reach #10 within an hour after it hit #13
    B) 9% thought it would reach #10 within two hours
    C) 1% (jpfan) thought it would take longer (he said 7 hours)
    D) 0% thought it would take a day
    E) 0% said “never”

And lots of people were talking about Top 5 or even Number 1. Now, personally, I have faith in Adam’s appeal and I think that he is in this business for the long haul. I believe that he has the capability to attract non-Idol fans in droves like no one since Carrie Underwood (and yes, that is high praise). But Kirsten is right that #11 shows us that his established fan base is either: A) Not as big as we thought; or B) Not full of fucking psycopaths (copyright Alex Trugman, 2009); or C) Not that into TFM.

But whichever the answer, it’s okay people. Take a deep breath. Play your copy of TFM again. Have a cup of tea. Relax. Adam will be around for years to come even if he’s not as initially popular as David Archuletta. If you are a fan, you should believe that. Cheers.

  • Mary102

Re the TFM numbers debate – I’m still sticking with my earlier assessment of TFM too – which is that, as soon as it was announced he would be singing it, I considered it as icing on the cake – another chance to do well with a song, to get his name out there, more PR, etc – but since it’s not technically an “Adam Song” – it doing less well or not blowing up the charts was hardly a big deal in the bigger scheme of things.

And ftr – I really think the song is doing well, and I was beyond thrilled to see it get as high as it did so quickly, with so much confusion surrounding its release.

  • crisanne

also tfm is an international released.
a fans from all over Europe can purchased the song from their Itunes so not much of gifting campaign is going on like last year

I agree. Thats how I saw it too. Especially since Adam’s next single is giong to be more upbeat and “glammy”. He has two different songs out there that will be marketed to different types of music lovers. Its a win/win situation. Double exposure.

  • unique28v

To my fellow Adam fans: why would we not be a little bit surprised about the single stalling out at #11?

As an Adam fan I don’t understand why some people are surprised it is stalling at #11 after a day and a half. LOL People just look at things differently. I see it as much ado about nothing.

As far as David Acheletta is concerned, I didn’t even know who he was until I began visiting this site this year, and honestly, no one on my job, family, friends, associates, etc. know who he is either. Just like there are still lots of people who don’t know who Adam is either. Thats why the more exposure all of these peeps get the better off they will be.

  • Kirsten

what numbers do you have, that the rest of us don’t, that show he’s not getting the numbers other idols have managed?

Go read Archie’s iTunes release thread from last year. MJ archives her threads so you can see how that song managed to do.

All I’m saying is that other Idols have done better, so I’m not impressed with the number #11. I’m not impressed with the #27, either. Both have to build fan bases outside of Idol, but that’s true for all Idols.

Let’s recall that Carrie Underwood, who has sold upwards of 11 million albums only held on in the top 10 for a few days when her single was released

Country rarely moves singles like other formats do. Carrie has her own set of benchmarks developed over three albums. Carrie fans seem content to wait to buy the album. This isn’t Carrie’s first post-Idol single (which seem to be strange beasts).

And, I repeat, I’m not saying that Adam is going to get dropped (or that Kris is either). I’m just saying that the fanbase is weaker than I thought and being featured on ET and releasing a video didn’t seem to help out very much. I’m not saying these things had no effect and that Adam only has two fans. Now, the hard work begins.

LOL@ some people who post HERE don’t even know his name! Really? who are these people, where are they and how did you find them?

I’m not allowed to call out other posters. Use your imagination.

I’m still interested in this “international” angle. LOL Maybe it has something to do with me being an international fan.

Someone said earlier that iTunes usually releases songs everywhere at the same time. But then someone said that LO and Crush were released as singles only in the US (or something like that). Does anyone know where to check this?

I’m not saying that the international sales of TfM are that significant at this point but I’m just curious. (And a proud Finn :) )

  • ladymadonna

I initially thought that the lower post-Finale numbers were due to people buying more singles during the season. Now, I’m not so sure.

Kirsten, just curious – was this speculation or did you have reason to think sales during the season were so much higher? Because the (albeit limited) glimpses into iTunes that we got during S8 wouldn’t seem to support that theory. The first leak during the wildcard round showed the bestselling track of the week (Matt’s ‘Who’s Loving You’) selling at a rate of about 10% of the track at #100 on the iTunes chart. Obviously it was early in the competition and these were live, semi-final performances which might not be expected to sell all that well. But during the S7 semis at least 3 Idol tracks went to #1 or #2 overall on iTunes: Archie’s Imagine, Cook’s Hello, and Castro’s Hallelujah – and those tracks continued to linger high on the overall chart for the rest of the competition.

iTunes lifted her skirts again for us at top 7 week, and while ‘Mad World’ was the bestselling Idol track at the time, it was still only lingering in the lower 30′s on the overall top sellers. By contrast, here’s a screenshot of the iTunes bestsellers from the same competition week during S7 – there are 5 Idol performance tracks in the top 20 overall at Tunes, including Cook’s ABMB at #1.

Of course the second S8 leak was weeks after Mad World was initially performed, and the track likely peaked much higher in prior weeks closer to when it first aired. But in general, the fact that during the heart of the competition, the bestselling performance track of all the Idols was in the 30′s (and thus all other Idol tracks were well below that) does not indicate to me that in-season sales were proportionally higher than S7.

Either way though, I still think it’s way too early to be making predictions on the commercial prospects of Adam, Kris, Allison, or any of the S8 crew. The fact that Time For Miracles is currently stalled outside the top 10 simply indicates to me that the noise surrounding Adam may in fact just be noise right now. Adam’s fanbase, like all fanbases, can only push their guy so far up the charts. At a certain point the product itself and all that promo has to start doing its job, and the real story will be told in the coming weeks and months.

Everybody is so funny with the numbers debating–trends! comparisons! worry! fear!

This song of Adam’s is going to be a great hit for him and it will help promote the movie a ton. I bet that the week that “My Heart Will Go On” was released (did they have downloads back then?) it wasn’t huge either. Millions of people will see that movie and will love the song. It will get a ton of radioplay.

Let it grow, folks, because it royally will.

  • lizziegs

On the move!!! now top 10!

  • PattyH

It boggles my mind that getting to #11 in 36 hours is consiered a bad thing. The way I see it is that this single, so far, has only been purchased by the diehards. Even some of Adam’s fans here have said they are not purchasing it because it is a cheezy song from a cheezy movie and is not Adam’s true single. If Kris got to #28, with sales of what, 39,000? Wouldn’t #11 be closer to 80,000 which is pretty darn great. After the MJ show, it should do even better. I predict it will go at least Gold and pretty quickly too. (Yes, I am a glass half full kind of person.)
Also, haven’t the experts here always said that the Idol fanbase is not enough to make any Idol successful. So, getting this song out to the general public will do exactly that. Adam’s “non Glam” look should surprise a lot of people who have only heard about him or seen PR photos. Yes, I think this video will pick up tons of new fans for Adam.
Then when their interest is piqued and Adam’s “real” single comes out, it will be nothing but good for him.
This is my scenario and I’m sticking to it! :)

    here’s a surprising fact:

Not everyone watches ET or videos on Youtube. Some people listen to good old-fashioned radio and won’t hear the song until its actually played.

Tess, you’re absolutely correct. Not everything can be measured in one day of numbers from only one source and method of sales.

One more thing…the only comparison to Aerosmith that is valid is that they’re both songs for disaster movies. Aerosmith had been an established band for 25years when that song was done and they were enjoying a resurgence and coming off 2 multiplatinum CDs. Liv Tyler was the new it-girl and Bruce Willis was a huge star. Adam Lambert is just getting started…there is no valid comparison to be made beyond the movie genre.

  • crisanne

I still do think Adam is so freaking popular than the Davis

at the moment TFM is #2 (Finland). #6 (canada) #10 (usa)

I also have those bars on my iTunes store chart – go to one of the empty columns, right click at the top of the column, and select “popularity.” I’m new to iTunes, but it’s been interesting to watch. Adam barely passed up “Empire State of Mind” and has been slowly inching up (and past) “Who Says” ever since. The exception to the popularity and ranking correspondence is “Run This Town,” for which there seem to be 2 versions… I wonder why?

I’ve never heard any Archie songs on the radio, but then again, I don’t listen to Disney Radio.

I hear Cook occasional and usually it’s ToML.

Daughtry on the other hand…sometimes I wonder if I’m listening to All Daughtry All the Time radio. You know the guy is successful if you change the station when Daughtry is on and he’s on the other station too.

I don’t know most of the songs on the Itunes top 10 pop and overall charts. I’ve never heard of some of the artists either.

I listen to all kinds of stations, Adult Contemp., Urban, Rock, Classic Rock and Pop. Maybe I just don’t pay attention to who is singing and what the name of the song is.

Anyway, all of this rambling really means, for God’s sake, the song has only been out 36 hours. What difference does it make if it’s at #1 in 1 hour or 24 or if it’s #1 for a day? As long as it charts and has longevity that’s what really counts in the end.

  • suebrody

Yay! #10! YAY! I knew TfM could do it! Oh, ye of little faith!!! :) (I agree, HotHotHot). I watched it right before I went to bed and I am going to watch it now.

This is an exciting time to be an Adam fan, and even more exciting to be Adam!!!

BTW, I love John Mayer, but we told him to move down a space, and he did. Watch out BEP, we are coming for you. ;)

  • lizziegs

I might go so far as to say that Adam’s/19′s strategy seems almost to be to market him as far away from the Idol audience as possible. This is either gutsy or nuts, (kind of like Adam) and its presumably some sort of longer term bet . It might not translate into “Archie” type day one sales – but who knows, I certainly don’t and I reserve the right to take it all back if he makes No. 1
    ….and yay to top 10!
and did I mention that I LOVE tfm and LOVE the video.

  • tierbee

Maybe different people have different perceptions. Some people thought it wouldn’t make the top 20 and people who said it would were deluded. Some people thought it would be an instant #1. And a whole lot of people are probably right in the middle. So the people who thought it would shoot to #1 right away? They are probably disappointed. The people who thought it wouldn’t? They are probably perfectly happy. How can there be one single “playbook” with so many posters on here? It’s opinion, and perception, but what Kristen DOES bring is facts… hard numbers from last year, for example. You can interpret the fact how you will based on the expectations.

The whole point is that as vocal as the fanbase seems to be and as much promo as this has gotten, it’s a bit of a surprise TO SOME PEOPLE that it didn’t get up to the top faster. Does this mean that Adam’s career is over? Nope. He may do extremely well outside the Idol bubble and that is actually good… because that’s where you need to win over new fans to grow a career.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that if it doesn’t do well it’s because it is a 2012 song and marketed as such. If you want to spin it that way, then if it does *well* it is because it is a 2012 song and marketed as such, not because of Adam.

It’s way too soon to tell how it will do long-term. But he definitely has had good promotion, so I think it is valid to be a little surprised that it is climbing slower than people expected. We all have different expectations, right? It’s waaaaay too early for anyone to be the best ever anyway. Who knows, one of the Idols off the radar might have a smash hit in a couple years and blow everyone away.

  • Kirsten

Yesterday I remember someone saying that the fans expecting this song to make the top 20 within 24 hours were deluded and that it wasn’t going to happen.

That wasn’t me. I think people who think that can’t happen are deluded. Brit went to number one in 24 hours just a few weeks ago. It happens frequently. Any numbers watcher knows that.

and just because the other guy falters doesn’t mean that it’s necessary to try to drag Adam down to make it seem he’s faltering too.

    That’s not my motivation.

Kirsten, just curious ‘“ was this speculation or did you have reason to think sales during the season were so much higher?

It was just a guess. Season 7 was the first year for iTunes sales during the season and I thought that people might be more used to doing it in Season 8 (people would have learned to do it over Season 7). Then the tour numbers showed up and they were pretty close indicating a similar amount of support. But, it may have just been that Season 7′s support was more concentrated.

It’s a black box. You can theorize one thing and the picture changes as you get more information throughout the year.

Based on the past couple of week’s results, I think the S7 probably did better in iTunes sales than this year.

  • beehiway

For those of you who want to put the video on your ipods or mobile video players but are annoyed with the incorrect aspect ratio in the myspace version, I’ve fixed the file and it can be found here (mp4):
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BNVWK6A5

Note that the film is shot in 2.35:1 format but the MySpace version with the black bars was supposed to be in 16:9 format (edited for TV), which the web team mucked up and encoded as 4:3 hence the horizontally squashed look.

Normally I would upload this to my YouTube channel. But I don’t appreciate Sony shutting down my channel after the indignation of having found my TFM 1:26 promo being unceremoniously pulled down and accused of copyright infringement.

I agree with everything you said. Thats why I’m more surprised at the fact that SOME people are saying Adam is a failure already after a day and a half just because a video was released less than 24 hours ago. The real promotion will happen (in my opinion) next week when it plays before the TII audience, and soon after that we will get another single and Adam will perform it at the AMA.

I just think some people, whether they are a fan of these people or not use their own personal opinions and musical tastes as indicators of a person’s success and thats rarely accurate.

  • tierbee

It boggles my mind that getting to #11 in 36 hours is consiered a bad thing.

Did people say it was a bad thing? I think it was more that some folks were a little surprised that it hadn’t gone higher. There’s a difference between declaring the song a failure (haven’t seen that) and expressing surprise that it didn’t jump up the charts faster (this I have seen). Heh. I went through this last year and the advice I can give you? Just relax and enjoy the ride… there are going to be people who don’t think Adam is the best thing since sliced bread, and that’s ok! Ya’ll aren’t going to survive the album drop… you think this is bad? Wait until that happens. And let’s face it, the expectations ARE ridiculously high for Adam. He’s had a ton of press/magazines, we consistently hear that he’s the best thing ever… so that means high expectations. Realistic expectations? Maybe not.

Just enjoy it. He’ll be fine.

Thats why I’m more surprised at the fact that SOME people are saying Adam is a failure already after a day and a half just because a video was released less than 24 hours ago.

I think that’s a really, really minority opinion. I don’t think 99% of folks out there think he’s toast because he didn’t meet the really high expectations. People are surprised, that’s all. I’ve expressed concern for the kid all along that the expectations are so insanely high that he’ll have a hell of a time attaining them. I’ve never seen the kind of promo/media attention that he’s gotten and while it should really boost his sales, it is a double edged sword because it raises expectations as well. I think Adam is well aware of that, he seems like a savvy, smart guy. I like the guy, I hope he does well. I don’t see any way that he won’t sell enough to get album #2 and that’s the treasure buried under the X for these kids.

  • Q3

I think it is great that iTunes is doing so well — for a classic rock ballad (not exactly the hotest genre right now) — that was done to market a movie, to be selling so well is surprising to me.

It makes me think that Adam’s first real single — from his album — will have a shot of also getting into the top 10.

  • saramcvt

I am in agreement with the marathon, not a sprint, comments. The movie hasn’t even come out yet people, and the single has been available for legal download for less than 48 hours? Songs from movies tend to build in favor as more and more people see the movie!

I can also say that it does have appeal for some who were not Adam fans during the show. I played the video for two of my coworkers, and they were very impressed and thought he looked and sounded great. I was so glad to see and hear their reaction!

Yay indeed! Well, this necessarily proves Adam’s fanbase is larger than we thought, right?

I wonder if we are Adam fans because he believes in the power of positive thinking so we tend to see the glass half full too?

The scientist in me is skeptical about correlating 1-day or 2-day sales with fan base size – there are too many other variables that could lead to other logical conclusions. But have fun arguing while we wait for more data. ;_J

Based on the past couple of week’s results, I think the S7 probably did better in iTunes sales than this year.

I think you’re probably right about that. But, I think that during S7, the iTunes downloads were still a new-fangled toy for a lot of the viewers. And, by S8, a lot of people were just not as interested in running to iTunes to buy the glorified karaoke they had just heard. I have no evidentiary basis for that theory by the way.

I also think, after 8 seasons, not as many people are willing to continue shelling out money for their favorite reality tv competitors just to “support” them. Year after year of pre-ordering and getting crap in return starts to make people a little jaded. So, for Kris & Adam, I think it’s even more important that the music be good and capture an audience outside the bubble.

  • Q3

I am very surprised that TfM is doing so well just with online marketing and a couple small TV features on ET.

  • Mom in the Suburbs

I guess we should all share a moment of silence for Mr. Mayer.

I was thinking the same thing! If John Mayer, a highly established artist is only at #11 in about the same amount of time his single is out as Adam’s, gosh, this Mayer guy must be a flash-in-the-pan! lol.

So I’m not feeling badly about Adam’s future in the business. At all. I think this is a good start and it will grow and grow in popularity. Comparisons to the two Davids are fine but something feels different here. This is not the same type of song as LO or Crush. It has the type of appeal to play on regular pop stations and adult contemporary, potential to be a huge hit, but one that grows as the rest of the population outside of the idol bubble discovers it. Wait until the movie comes out, and the preview for TII.

Can I ask a dumb question here? I can’t find my post from last night. I dowloaded on Amazon last night, installed the software. Bought the song but couldn’t see how I get charged and pay for it? halfie, I wanted dinner. Booo. I just caught up in the hoopla, and once hwc provided the racing analogy (easier for a car to get to top 30 and then wait and push than the initial ability to the top 10 or higher),

    This news thrills me, b/c:

    It happened in less than 36 hours (not that I’m counting, mind you);
    It is not technically “Adam’s song”: the banner reads 20012, tFM by Adam Lambert;
    Not everyone has a clue as to what 2012 is;
    Not everyone has a clue as to who Adam Lambert is;
There has been so airplay (or little of it); and
Some people don’t buy singles (I typically don’t), they buy albums.

So this is big news, as far as I’m concerned. And it just sets the stage for further success, b/c I am sure ppl didn’t download it b/c they didn’t like it but like Adam (or the song). There are others who liked the song but won’t like future songs. Different strokes and all that.

And I still love the video. The more I see it, in fact, the more I like it, and someone broke down how it works (e.g, a sort of anime Adam at the start, and then the Adam who walks through the crowds, dirty but unaffected, and the Adam on the rooftop, differently dressed, which I missed eventually triumphant as the sun comes up.).

Anyway, I’m really happy and hope I can download the video soon!

  • mmb

wow, so much sturm und drang….i think Adam is doing great! itunes top 10 and amazon #1 within a day? on a song that is getting no radio play yet? that has been promoted solely via word of mouth on the internet and entertainment news shows? For those complaining that adam didn’t hit itunes #1 i I can tell you that last year I liked Cook but did not follow any internet sites/twitter etc. and I am never home from work in time for ET/insider/AH etc. so until I saw poster in the store and heard a song on the radio i had no idea that he had a record out…w/r/t BOTH kris and Adam i’m sure there are many fans in the same boat this year….we also should remember that AI had less viewers this year than last year…now the fun really starts — all of the tv appearances and performances, the poster and pos materials to hawk the albums etc., the videos etc….lets check back in a few months and see how everyone is doing….for now, at least IMHO, Adam is doing far better than I ever expected (and I expected him to do pretty well)…gotta go watch the video AGAIN

And does anyone have numbers on sales for Paparazzi and I Gotta feeling for last week? Those are Adam’s next two hurdles- I think he can do it!

Paparazzi was #8 on the digital songs chart and sold 108,303 this past week.

IGF came in at #11 and sold 97,136.

    Britney’s “3″ was #1 with 171,583 tracks sold.

  • Suzanne

This isn’t even his first single.

What’s a “single?” It’s been released for download; it has a video that has also been released; it will be included in an album. Is it not a single because it hasn’t gone for adds yet? (Seriously, i don’t know why Time for Miracles is not a single.)

  • suebrody

Does anyone know when iTunes plans to release the video?

  • rockvixen

    Yay Adam’s at #10!

For those concerned about airplay for Tfm, the BEP songs I Gotta Feeling and their latest release are both over 4 min. long and hugely popular on radio so the length of Adam’s song won’t factor into how much it’s played imo. If it becomes popular it will be played alot.

  • Rub

    Thank you Rub. Good information.

    You’re welcome Tara

    Can I ask one more?

When you download from itunes, as I did from here to get TFM, is it lesser quality once I download from my computer to a Cd than if I waited and bought a CD from Amazon/ Barnes and Noble.etc.???

Tara, the quality should be the same when burning to a CD from itunes. The quality suffers/degrades when you re-encode back to your computer from a burned CD. There’s more to that but I don’t want to bore you to pieces.

Btw, if you are into sound integrity, I would buy that CD from Barnes or any store because the quality on the disc will always be superior.

Tip: When ripping a CD(official from store) to your computer/itunes, do it at a minimum of 256kbps in AAC.
Personally, I encode my treasured songs at 320. Bigger file, but its virtually indistinguishable from a CD.

  • Starshine

To sr4mjc, I used the Amazon Downloader for the first time last night. It will put a folder called “Amazon MP3″ in your Music Folder on your PC. The song will be inside that folder.
    Go there to find it.

The Downloader software was confusing to me at first too, but it seems to work well. And I didn’t get a page confirmation after the purchase either, but received an immediately email acknowledging my purchase.
    *****

Adam’s 2012 was the first MP3 and first music download of my life, by the way. So, he is getting people to buy singles who have never, ever bought one before.

He also encouraged me to buy two “Tokio Hotel” CD’s based on his recommendation of the band.
    First CD’s I’ve bought since 1995.

Don’t underestimate the power of Adam Lambert, folks!

I don’t even have an iPod or iTunes. Adam is hitting a whole new market of people like me.

Adam Lambert has gotten us interested in music again.
Which to me, is more than a miracle than “Time For Miracles” is.

Well if so, I assume it will be a bonus or hidden track. And I guess it makes some wierd sense because TfM is all about selling 2012.

BUT Put me officially on record on this one — putting TfM on Adam’s debut album is a braindead idea. I still hope they come to their senses. But I never thought 19R and Sony ME were that smart. Proving it once again.

    1. The has a new artist who is positioned as noveau glam fusion electronica dance — and the throw a classic rock ballad on his first album. What about branding?

    2. Why would the put the song on Adam’s album when they have the 2012 Soundtrack to sell? It only has 3 new tracks on it — including TfM. So Tfm is going to be on 2 albums?

I’ve heard for months that this guy’s buzz is off the chart. That the entire world cares about him. That he’s featured everywhere like no other Idol before him. If so, why isn’t he getting the numbers that other Idols have managed?

See, I think the “featured everywhere” part hasn’t quite happened, yet. Rolling Stone was awhile ago. Details is just coming out (I personally haven’t seen it on the stands yet). ET had two small clips, but just in the last couple of days. The InStyle blurb just came out, and it’s only a blurb. The AMA performance hasn’t happened yet (I don’t really count the award announcements). The TfM video introduction before TII isn’t until the 28th (?). Oprah has been taped but not shown.

I think the only place Adam has been prominently featured has been in the recording studio finishing his album. I’m inclined to hold off comparing the numbers until after some of these bigger events have taken place. These are the things that will put Adam on people’s radar, not internet leaks of his songs or articles by AI insiders like Slezak.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

LOL! *raises hand* I was one of those who downloaded EVERYTHING from Idol during Season 7. (Well, okay. I never downloaded anything from sweet lil Rami.) But, it was completely new and exciting last season. Then, shortly after the season ended, an Idol song would pop up on my iPod, and I’d quickly hit the forward button. I ended up deleting all most all of them. (I have a sneaking suspicion I’m going to end up deleting most of my Glee stash after awhile.) This season, I learned my lesson and rarely downloaded anything.

Honestly, I’m just so happy that Adam has a song out that I love, a video in which he looks gorgeous, and that he’s already hit the top of one chart and has made the top 10 of another. I’m not going to spend time making excuses (I mean, why is being in the Top 10 a BAD thing? And if he does eventually hit #1, will that not be good enough because he didn’t do it fast enough? If so, oh well. Nothing we can do about it.) Adam had a nice first day. And he’s got lots of exciting things coming up in the future. I’m just going to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

  • Mary102

Based on the past couple of week’s results, I think the S7 probably did better in iTunes sales than this year.

In light of all the comparisons between Adam and Archie/Cook last year – I think in the end that it doesn’t really matter. If we’re only talking size of AI hardcore, buy immediately fans, the name of the game is getting more fans BEYOND that – so I couldn’t care less how many hardcore Adam vs Archie fans there are out there.

No offense to Archie, but he had one huge hit, and since then, not much (though don’t get me wrong, he is still doing well). But I don’t want Adam shooting up to #1 if he is to meet a similar fate – not that he would, of course, just that, I’d much rather he build the bigger, non-AI base, and have MANY hit songs, not unlike Kelly or Carrie – they may not necessarily all be #1 in less than 24 hrs, but they are still huge.

  • Rub

Q3, its a brilliant idea if you are the label looking out for your bottom line.

Its an incentive for a prospect casual buyer looking for a reason to buy the album. I can see the CD cover with a sticker/label reading: “Includes the smash hit TFM.”

    Impulse=cha-ching.

  • clearone

    1. The has a new artist who is positioned as noveau glam fusion electronica dance ‘” and the throw a classic rock ballad on his first album. What about branding?

I think branding went out the window the minute Adam recorded TFM and a video was released of it. TFM is going to draw an entirely different audience for the mostpart than TBD (yes it’s still TBD to me!) so those who like TFM might have their curiosity peeked and purchase TBD so they get TFM and a listen to Adam’s other music. Doesn’t seem like a bonehead move to me.

  • Mary102

I think it is great that iTunes is doing so well ‘” for a classic rock ballad (not exactly the hotest genre right now) ‘” that was done to market a movie, to be selling so well is surprising to me.

This too! I think it’s interesting to note that this song plus the first single are going to represent two entirely different sides of Adam. He had so many sides on the show, and some people loved all sides, while many many others loved one side vs another.

That’s why maybe it isn’t so far-fetched to imagine that some people who love big, ballady, old school Adam will flock to buy TFM, while others who love electronic, dance, pop, party Adam will buy the other one. And some may not necessarily buy both based on that preference.

That may also be behind the strategy to have TFM on the soundtrack – maybe RCA figures it will get more of his fanbase to buy the album, since it will have a little bit more of the “different sides of Adam”.

Paparazzi was #8 on the digital songs chart and sold 108,303 this past week.

IGF came in at #11 and sold 97,136

Thanks lady Madonna! So what range do we think Adam is in here?

If TFM can sustain top 10 position, then a ball-park estimate is 100,000. But when Adam’s fanbase runs out and not enough new fans are buying, TFM could slide down anytime.

    I totally agree.
