Adam Lambert taped an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show on Friday afternoon, and it appears all went well, according to reports from the twitterverse and messageboards.

The air date of the show–focusing on favorite reality stars–is still to be determined.

The following is a snip from a poster at the Idol Forums message boards who attended the taping. Multiple tweets from other attendees confirm her info:

Basically Adam came on live via video, wore a simple black T, no makeup, his hair was emo, back to the old part, which will make some of you happy. He looked relaxed and happy! They played BTBW on the big screen to huge cheers from everyone. He was voted favorite reality show star by the Oprah audience, which is why he was on. Said his album drops Nov 23rd, which really surprised us. He said it twice, I believe. Oprah asked him whether he’d come back to sing something at a later date and he said ‘I really hope so’ . Had the feeling Oprah really wants him on the show. He was asked about whether he was upset that he didn’t win and he gave the usual answer, that no, he still got everything he wanted.

Yes, the album release date has changed from Tuesday November 24 to Monday November 23.

I’m hearing that Universal Records decided to release their artists’ albums on Monday instead of Tuesday the week of Thanksgiving, calling the day “Super Monday”.   That move prompted Sony Records, the parent of Adam’s label RCA, to do the same.

Tape all Oprah episodes this week, to be on the safe side. This is reality star week, and Adam will be on, but prob not Monday.

Are all RCA releases originally due out 11/24 being moved up to 11/23 (to compete with Universal) or is Adam’s being moved up to take advantage of his appearance on the AMAs? I’m inclined to think the latter. If anyone has info on other releases being pushed up, please post it. :)

  • saga

Wasn’t Lady Gagas changed to the 23rd also?

    when is tfm on iTunes?

  • Tess

For those in the know….what clock does I-tunes work off of…when do they hit midnight and move to the next day. I thought it was PDST which would mean that the clock switches at 3am in New York.

All of this will be interesting with the AMAs just hours before….I would think that, If Adam does well and impresses, there is a great tie-in to the I-tunes release just hours afterwards.

I can see why the album release date has been moved to the 23rd but why oh why has the date for TFM been pushed back a week? Especially since it’s already been released in Belgium, Holland and Italy. Is Sony throwing darts at a map? Are they totally ignorant about file sharing technology?

It’s still there — so it doesn’t look like a mistake.

My guess is they are releasing it the day before THIS IS IT because they want to see how many people buy it after seeing it before the movie. If that is the reason, i actually think it is a smart move.

Excellent. It’s too bad they had to focus on the reality star angle this time around and rehash American Idol stuff, but next time he goes on Oprah it would be about his own music. So I’m very, very happy that this anonymous source suggests that there will be a next time…. *crosses fingers*

  • BestAI

So I’m very, very happy that this anonymous source suggests that there will be a next time’ ¦. *crosses fingers*

Several people who were at the taping witnessed Oprah inviting Adam back to sing on her show. Since it was more than one source saying the same thing, it must be what happened. It is now a matter of scheduling. I thought Oprah might be interested in Adam after Simon Cowell told her that Adam had the “IT” factor.

Wondering if there is a different mix for the TFM USA release? because of the 27th release date.

  • yinyang

Wondering if there is a different mix for the TFM us release? because of the 27th release date.

    Interesting thought.

I’m hoping that it was moved back a week so the single from the album could be out sooner, (the 20th, or whenever they get the notion to randomly release it, since Tuesdays don’t seem related to the releases these days.) But, that’s probably just wishful thinking on my part.

  • 4mula1

Why haven’t TFM been released yet ? what are they waiting for?

My bet is they won’t release TFM until a day or two before the premiere of This Is It on Oct 28 because they want to lead into the TII movie premiere with TFM at #1 on iTunes. Because they are playing the TFM music video as a special trailer at the beginning of TII.

The fanbase buzz is strong enough that as soon as TFM’s released, there’s a good chance it will hit #1 on iTunes. It might only stay there for a few days though. So they don’t want to release it too soon.

They want to be able to maximise the cross-promotional opportunities. They want to be able to run ads for TII saying “and see the music video of the #1 itunes hit Time for Miracles”. (I’m not in marketing – but it makes sense to me.)

  • Truthiness

I really do hope that he does get to go in person and gets to perform some of his new music. That would be a killer opportunity for him. And have a chat with Oprah, bond her with….get her minions to like him too. Work that Oprah magic on her audience, whatever. I don’t care, as long as it benefits Adam.

  • FifthHouseSun

    ‘I really hope so’ .

What? Adam, the answer to Oprah if she inquires about singing on her show of 20 million viewers and game-changing website is your choice of “YES! Would love to! As often as you like! Do you want me to come to Santa Barbara this weekend… Alone..and I love golden retrievers”

Maybe he was saying “hope” like if you’ll have me, if you really mean it, what a dream come true.

Because, “can I fit it in the schedule”, or “will my handlers approve and hope we can work it out” are not really issues. If Ms. Winfrey wants you, count your blessings and show up when she says.

  • dietcoke

Why are they releasing TFM in Italy, Belgium, and today France? It’s not like people over there know who Adam Lambert is. He hasn’t done any promotion oversea. I am pulling my hair out trying to understand the logic behind it.

Is tfm still on italy and the benelux itunes? They haven’t pulled it? Was this intentional from the start?

Good question. Was all this a way to build up even more excitement and hype?

    Very likely.

Norwegian iTunes had “leaked” Kelly Clarkson’s single “All I Ever wanted” earlier this year. She’s with RCA/Sony Music. This means Sony/RCA would be very well aware of this problem and the potential risk. Plus they seem to have been very effective at controlling leaks re Adam’s album.

So it probably the “leak” was intentional to keep the fans invested until they release TFM the day before the This Is It premiere.

  • rblaha1234

When A I season 8 was over, I e-mailed Oprah and Ellen and asked them to pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee have Adam on their shows. I am happy to see Oprah came to her senses. So it probably the ‘leak’ was intentional to keep the fans invested until they release TFM the day before the This Is It premiere.

I don’t think it was a “leak” since Sony Pictures Entertainment posted the HD audio for the full song online — and it is now all over YouTube. YouTube pulled the copies of the Italian audio and the the HD version was posted and has been up for almost two days.

Strange set of countries but I think it must be intentional.

Adam does have a HUGE fanbase but considering the type of song tfm is I don’t think you can garuntee it’ll be #1 on iTunes ..:)

You have a point there, the consumers for the recording business are in hundreds of millions and right now I think Adam’s fan base is just a dot in the continuum.
Time for Miracles is a very good vehicle for millions more to be aware that he even exists.
Like I was just having lunch with a group of young men in their late twenties and thirties . They heard of someone in American Idol who is a really good rock singer but have no idea about all the details there. As one guy said, he heard about Adam from his mom.
So when I told him it’s the same guy singing Time for Miracles , they were surprised. They thought someone from a reality show don’t get to do that.
They saw the snippet with Adam on it but they just thought he was a new singer and did not connect him with American Idol.
They thought the song was really cool and awesome (their expression ) and they had been checking out iTunes if they can download.
These guys were talking more of the Mayan prophecy thing so their interest on Time for Miracles and consequently Adam was an offshoot of their interest on the film.

So I think more exposure for Adam at Oprah will continue to fuel the growth of his recording career.

  • celtcwrtr

adam is on his well on his way to international superstardom… mastered, no doubt, by an uber savvy management team – and i’m not referring to 19. in conjunction, maybe… solely, highly doubtful.

however, this withholding of the download of tfm in the u.s. is more than annoying. especially for someone who could give a rat’s ass about the jackson doc.

  • suebrody

I agree with animated and celtcwtr. Time to release the new single. Time to release TFM. I mean, at some point, ppl are gonna say, oh, yeah, I remember Adam from Idol, can I hear his new music? Oh, wait. IT’S NOT OUT YET?? So, really, who does that ultimately have. I think this is roll out is perhaps taking TOO LONG.

And yeah, there is, to me, no question that Adam will be back on Oprah as soon as she asks him, and I believe (without having seen the piece yet–Tuesday?) that she will.

  • luvadamlambert

adam is on his well on his way to international superstardom

Aimee hasn’t tweeted about Adam for a while:(

  • zuper

I was at the Oprah taping. I did not take anything negative from Adam regarding her question about a future appearance. He gave the normal enthusiastic answer/expression to all future opportunities – a raised eyebrow, high-pitched I hope so. Same type of response when asked about hosting SNL, touring with Lady Gaga, Queen, etc. He is up for anything at all and taking it all in.

I don’t know if the bit about their birthdays will make the TV show because SKYP froze up then and it was difficult to make out what he was saying.

Something else I haven’t seen anyone mention (but I haven’t read all the comments), is that Oprah mentioned that his presale hit Amazon #1 ahead on other big names and asked for his response. Obviously he was flattered etc… I’m not sure why they asked Lambet fans to submit questions because about the only question she asked him was why hadn’t he been discovered before and what was he doing before Idol. Pretty generic questions that have been asked a hundred times. I thought that information was pretty common knowledge.

As far as Oprah being a great opportunity for Adam, I think it works both ways. I think it will bring younger viewers to Oprah too. I would have never gone to that taping if it weren’t for the Adam piece. Not that I am very young by any stretch, but I think the median age of the audience was easily 50.

He said he didn’t believe that people get discovered anymore. That you need an established fan base already which is why he chose to do idol.

The producer before the show said that she didn’t have an exact air date yet but looking at the content of the script she imagined it would be “rather soon”.

the majority of Adam fan aren’t ‘young’ ’ ¦.

Pretty big generalization, this, based on a few of old bats hanging out on a blog site. We have no way of knowing who Adam’s fans are…they may be young, middle, old, boy, girl, dogs, cats, horses. I think that we are just too quick to make judgments about things based on the insular world of MJs blog and other fan sites.

Most young people, I know, don’t have the time to be on the internet day after day….they are busy living RL and taking care of school and work and families and friends. And, based on my behavior when I was in my late teens and early twenties, I wouldn’t think to holler my head off about any of my favs…I was too cool for that stuff, even though I bought records and went to movies and concerts and “rooted” for the ones I really liked.

Zuper, Did it seem like the show lasted about 45 minutes? I guess they edit it somewhat. I’m wondering if that taped show will be on the entire hour or if it is just one segment. Sometimes they have two segements on Oprah.

The reason why I’m asking is that I was looking at the shows for next week, and that taping does not show in the clips. However, I guess I’ll tivo all of Oprah shows until Adam airs. Hopefully, I’ll see it on her website so I don’t have to do that, tho.

  • zuper

Adam is only one VERY SMALL part of the show (maybe 5 minutes). Also fetured is Ace of Cakes contest, Project Runway Fierce interview and fashion models, and Randy Jackson’s Dance crew winners from season 4 perform.

  • 4mula1

considering the type of song tfm is I don’t think you can garuntee it’ll be #1 on iTunes ..:)

Adam’s fan base is just a dot in the continuum.

Agree with both these points. Music industry insiders can’t guarantee what will be #1 on iTunes, let alone someone like me who know next to nothing about it.

I do think it’s possible that the first of Adam’s songs released to iTunes will get to #1. Yes, Adam’s fan base might be relatively small – nowhere near as huge as Beyonce’s or Robbie Williams or even SuBo’s at this stage. But it’s comprised of a whole lot of individuals who are focussed and networked and cashed up and ready to pounce on iTunes the second Adam’s first song is released – regardless of what it is.

It’s not about the total aggregated number of fans – it’s about those fans concentrating their activity (buying one particular song on iTunes) in a short timeframe.

It’s the same principle as trending on Twitter. Adam fans or Kris fans might be relatively small in number compared to the total number of people using Twitter overall. But when we all join together at the same time and tweet the exact same thing, we manage to trend. We even get to #1 sometimes!

On top of that, the Adam Lambert dynamics seem to be so unusual that nothing at all would surprise me!

We have no way of knowing who Adam’s fans are’ ¦they may be young, middle, old, boy, girl, dogs, cats, horses. I think that we are just too quick to make judgments about things based on the insular world of MJs blog and other fan sites.

Actually on the AI forums, there were quite a few young Adam fans. I believe most of his international fans were around their 20s. I don’t know where they all dispersed to, possibly many went over to Adam Official. I know he has a number of different fan groups, including internationally. I have a feeling mjs has many “older” posters, meaning beyond teens and twenties. I’m not sure how many came from AI forums.

and can someone tell me why itunes is divided country wise? Why not have everything in one big itunes shop, just with different languages?

    This.
For those of us who speak and enjoy music in more than English – ridiculous that there are separate itunes. I assume it has something to do with copyright, but in these global times it is way past due for everyone to get together and form an international copyright convention, at least the US and the EU.

And FYI, actually people in France do know who Adam Lambert is. He is not well known, but definitely he is on the radar.

  • Q3

Just go over to IDF, ONTD_AI or AO and you’ll find tons of young Adam fans.

    I’m back:)

sorry,I phrased my prior comment wrong.that’s a generalization not just from this blog but from what I’ve seen over the internet.I meant diehards.also,I’m SURE there are many younger diehards just not as many as older fans.also,
I know the “competition is over”(hate that phrase btw) but I think(and I could be wrong) that from what ive seen most Kris fans are in their 20s-30s ,Adam fans 40 or older and surprisingly for Allison grown men.i guess she has some little girl fans too?

    personally, I couldn’t care less about fans ages.doesn’t matter at all.but it’s interesting…..kinda…:)

And plenty of us “old folks” are young at heart at least. IMO, Adam is not looking for Britney/Miley fans (tho they would be welcome). He is striving for a broader base of true music lovers who will embrace his vision of the whole presentation of music, visually and aurally…something beyond the Top 40, auto-tuned dreck that’s out there now. I can’t wait!

Age is but a number and who can tell how old people really are anyway? On the internets, you can pose as any age. Therefore, I’ll take what I saw with my eyes at the Glendale concert. Saw lots of tweens, teens and younger kids with Adam t-shirts and signs. Saw lots of 30-somethings standing up and cheering for Adam. Saw older people cheering for Adam. Didn’t see many 20-29 year olds at the concert cheering for anyone. Maybe AI isn’t that popular for the demographic. Maybe Details is perfect for that as well.

  • CindyM

  • Summer

I think all of the timing of the cross promotions has been very well thought out- by having him appear in so many different media he will be a familiar face by the time his album drops.
Think about it, the casual person will see him on the cover of magazines every time they walk by a magazine rack, he is being teased on the nightly entertainment shows, he is on Oprah, he is on the end credits of a major movie, his movie/music video will be played with the very hyped movie about MJ – you may not know who he is when you see him in one or more of these places, but by the time his album drops, you are already gonna be familiar with his face and his name- and wondering who the heck this guy is who is EVERYWHERE- thus much more likely to want to check out his album.
It’s really quite brilliant and very cool that his record company deems him worthy of such a great marketing plan.

    Hi Cate,

I remember her saying ‘unfreakingbelievable’ (hard to forget) but I didn’t know that it was her most recent tweet. By all accounts, Aimee is an active twitterer.

Do we know that she actually has a song for the album though? There was one tweet where she sounded distinctly downhearted because a song for Adam wasn’t chosen (it had, since, gone to someone else). Was there more than the one song? Geez I hope so. Wasn’t she had what might be the first single?

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

and can someone tell me why itunes is divided country wise? Why not have everything in one big itunes shop, just with different languages?

I think it has to do with foreign licensing and distribution deals. Instead of thinking of iTunes as something you can access from a computer, think of it as a physical record store. If a label does not have a distribution and/or licensing deal for a song or album in Sweden, the stores in Sweden will not have the album on their shelves. So, iTunes has to be set up by countries to make sure a customer registered in Italy can’t buy music that was never licensed to be sold in Italy.

    Hi Newfan!

I think Aimee’s tweets have slowed down a bit since the songs were chosen for Adam’s album. At least, she’s not flailing as much so we don’t have to worry about her hyperventilating. LOL SueBrody is the expert on AimeeMayo tweets, but I remember “unfreakinbelievable”, too!

If I’m not mistaken, there was also a song she did with Ryan Tedder that might make the album. It was the song with Ferras that went to someone else. Where’s Q3 when we need her with her list?!

ETA: Yes, it was the song with Ferras that Adam didn’t use:

@suebrody1 the song with @ohferras is getting played for other artists. It is really amazing but wasn’t what Adam needed. Everything’s good.

  • CindyM

    There were two songs.

Aimee and Ferras wrote a song for Adam AFTER he’d recorded her first song during the Ryan Tedder sessions.

It’s the former that they’re shopping around to other artists. The second hasn’t been decided yet, i don’t think.

  • NewFan

At least, she’s not flailing as much so we don’t have to worry about her hyperventilating

I’m with you on this one Cate … but lets also hope that self-harming won’t be an issue either.

turtle_island The song I got to hear Adam sing is a different song. For now- it’s still on his record. I pray it stays that way

When I first read this I thought that turtle island was the name of the song. OMG Can you imagine? I pray that a song called turtle island would not stay on the record … otherwise … I’m still rooting for Aimee.

  • Sherena

When I first read this I thought that turtle island was the name of the song. OMG Can you imagine? I pray that a song called turtle island would not stay on the record ‘ ¦ otherwise ‘ ¦ I’m still rooting for Aimee.

A song sung by Adam called Turtle Island would be my FAVORITE THING IN THE WORLD. As long as the rest of the album was relatively sane, of course. I’m rooting for Aimee as well, though I don’t think I want her to get the first single– I don’t have that much trust in her songwriting abilities. But I want her to get a song on the album.

  • NewFan

If you’re not careful Sherena, we’ll have to put you in the padded playroom with Aimee. And no sharps or shoelaces.

Sounds like another Oprah show. My Favorite Things No, she’s already got that one covered. Unorthodox fan behavior of Adam Lambert fans…. the dark side. No… let’s see now…

    ETA
Actually, I agree that carefully qualified rooting … may be the best attitude to take when it comes to Aimee.

  • Janus

I don’t think I want her to get the first single

Yeah, I’m thinking whatever she wrote, it’s most likely a ballad…don’t thing that’s going to go well with dancers, fire, explosions and glitter bombs…

  • Valentin432

And FYI, actually people in France do know who Adam Lambert is. He is not well known, but definitely he is on the radar.

Not sure what you mean by on the radar, if you mean the ultra miniscule percentage that follows American Idol, I would say close to 0 percent knows who Lambert is. There is a growing number of persons who watch US TV shows, but AI is not popular at all if you go to forums or blogs.

What is happening is simple, the only country where Adam is selling some singles right now is Holland, because it’s the country where there are the most people following American Idol, everybody there speaks english and Kelly Clarkson and Jordin Sparks actually sell there.
Kelly even mentored one episode of the X factor in Holland.

  • Q3

If I’m not mistaken, there was also a song she did with Ryan Tedder that might make the album. It was the song with Ferras that went to someone else. Where’s Q3 when we need her with her list?!

Yes, Adam recorded a Aimee Mayo, Chris Lindsey & Ryan Tedder song, produced by Ryan Tedder. The second song that Aimee wrote with Ferres AlQaisi was not needed by Adam.

  • Janus

Yes, Adam recorded a Aimee Mayo, Chris Lindsey & Ryan Tedder song, produced by Ryan Tedder. The second song that Aimee wrote with Ferres AlQaisi was not needed by Adam.

Didn’t see many 20-29 year olds at the concert cheering for anyone. Maybe AI isn’t that popular for the demographic. Maybe Details is perfect for that as well.

AI isn’t that popular among those demos, especially the concert. I wanted to see Adam live, but I wouldn’t have gone if my mother wasn’t also an Adam fan. She asked to go to the live show for her Mother’s Day present, so I obliged. My mom was my excuse, basically.

I do have friends that like Adam, but aren’t that into AI and looked at me like I had grown an extra head when I said I was going to the AI show. They however said they’d go to a solo Adam show with me or see him as an opening act if they liked the headliner (like Lady GaGa).

Honestly, as a twentysomething, I do feel a bit like a square peg in the AI World. Especially considering outside of pop/dancepop, my tastes run more underground. I’ve met quite a few Adam fans like me on various boards though. ;) I do think he has the potential to appeal to my peer group quite a bit though, and content like the Details and RS articles really help to shed some of the AI baggage which can be off-putting.

Anyway, I’m rambling. Even if Oprah doesn’t open Adam up to new demos, she sure does give a boost to sales. That’s not a bad thing.

  • Janus

I do think he has the potential to appeal to my peer group quite a bit though, and content like the Details and RS articles really help to shed some of the AI baggage which can be off-putting.

What he needs to do is get on The Daily Show or Colbert Report (my personal preference being The Daily Show). I think that would go a long way to introducing him to the 20-30 somethings. Colbert could give Lambert the “Colbert Bump” — which, you know, Adam really deserves since he’s been giving others the “Lambert Bump”. :)

ETA: But of course the downside to that is Adam would then have to name a song after Stephen Colbert…

  • adamandeva

Like I said before, I’m concerned because Adam has quite the competition thanksgiving week. It’s Pop Divas week for album releases! He’s up against Rihanna, Gaga, Susan Boyle, and I think I read somewhere Britney’s latest greatest hits drops that week too. I hope Adam will be able to beat out all of them for no. 1. Neither Cook or Archie grabbed no. 1 their week. Taylor Swift and Beyonce both trounced them in sales.

I know Adam will be fine, and its more about sustainability in album sales for the following weeks. But I would really just love it if Adam were able to come out on top! I have a feeling that Gaga might end up the biggest seller that week. Even though hers is a re-release, she has 8 new songs coming out on it, and her following now is HUGE.

  • sdmama

Maybe it was because I was also listening to TfM, too, but when I read that Adam was voted to be the favorite reality show star, I cried. It can’t be more mainstream than Oprah, their viewers can’t be be more middle of America. And Adam was voted to be their favorite. The audience can’t be made up with just the hardcore fans like us.

This is a Time for Miracles to me. Sometimes, we get somebody who can change the mind of a lot people, maybe a little at a time, with smile, without preaching, because we can’t help loving the person for who he is and what he does. To me, Adam is that person of my generation and my kids’. I am getting hopeful about the future again.

I am sorry but I love Ballads. I was already on the edge from the back story of the song writer. I don’t think I can listen to TfM ever again without choking up. So, so, happy…

Valentin, I don’t think that he is known as an Idol, particularly. As to music, Mad World can be listened to on several teen sites in France; also if you search for Adam Lambert on google.fr (specify French in the language options) it is surprising how much there is.

I really don’t give a damn if he gets No.1 or not.

It’s far, far more important that his CD has staying power on the charts. That I care about.

If you’re not careful Sherena, we’ll have to put you in the padded playroom with Aimee. And no sharps or shoelaces.

No sharps or shoelaces? I could work around that… :D

agreed. but no. 1 would be a beautiful thing.

  • suebrody

Hey, you were talking about Aimee without me!!! ;) I tweeted her yesterday, but I think she is chilling, tho she and @ohferras are still working together. So she has one song that is still in the running. and it might make it b/c of Ryan Tedder’s stamp. If she DOES get it on there…Adam Storm won’t be nothing next to her tsunami. ;)

So…anyway…I am a sucker for Adam’s slow songs. My favorites are:
    FG (studio, haunting)
    MW (studio and performance)
    One (studio)
    ACIGC (both)
    Starlight (tour, of course)
    ToMT (performance)

I cannot wait to hear his other songs, and I have become a HUGE Muse fan over the past few months, so I would LOVE his album to have a lot of songs like that. I am not a huge Pink fan, but I love his voice so much that I highly doubt there is anything I won’t like on the album. I do not LOVE TfM, but I like it a lot, and b/c he is singing it, I appreciate it. If it were someone else, I doubt it. He has the *it* factor, and so you put that together w/ his looks and personality and superlative voice and down-to-earth but honest attitude, and voila. Superstar. Yep, hope he goes on The Daily Show and Colbert (fun!) b/c there are, as you say, 20, 30, even 40-somethings (me) who might not watch Idol but DO watch those shows and will be attracted to him. And of course, Oprah gains him an audience he would never have reached otherwise.

I don’t think you would call Kelly, Carrie, JHud, or Daughtry “little stars.” If you know pop/country/r&b, you know who they are, even if you never watched Idol (tho 22 mil did every week). Idol is the platform, but the singer takes it and runs with it, or not.

And I honestly don’t think it matters if Adam goes against some of the others in the long run. His fans will buy his album, he will have received recognition on the AMAs (huge) and GMA, and if ppl like what they hear, they will buy/download the album (or at least some tracks), and if they don’t, they won’t. I would buy two albums in a week if I liked them equally. I am just pickier than most people. ;)

No offense, Adam, or any of you who are actually reading this ;) , but I detest Britney. Ugh.

ETA: #1–not concerned with (tho happy as hell). I don’t see him getting there, either, or not right away (up against the others mentioned). Airplay and recognition–you betcha. A slow build/burn would be fine. The long haul would be fine with me.

  • suebrody

Oh, I keep meaning to ask this:

Does anyone know of the release date of the first single off the album? Is it in all likelihood a week from Tuesday (since Tuesday is when TFM gets its download in the states, and if it’s released on the 27th, I think,. that’s about a month from his album drop)? It hasn’t been confirmed yet, right? And has Strut hasn’t been given the first go-ahead, right? For someone who posts so much, you’d think I would know these things, but no, and no one on Twitter seems to, either.

A chronological list of what is coming .
A lot of competition going on.
Most of us have done our part with the pre orders. So now Adam has to work his … off to obtain sales beyond his fandom.

Saying that Adam Lambert is an unknown in most part of Europe is pretty accurate. Where would people have heard of him if they didn’t follow AI? From what I know they didn’t sell the RS issue over here, maybee in airports or english/american libraries but that’s it. Wonder how people would have known about donorschoice.
Holland is the only country where TFM charted and it peaked in the 140′s if I remember correctly, how many singles does that make? Could be less than 500 if even that.

We have seen where Adam has the beginning of a fanbase with the amazon pre orders and now with TFM and it’s in countries where American Idol is kind of popular like the UK or Japan where Elliot Yamin has had success and Kelly also went there.
Australia and Canada are also good bets because of history.

Adam has all that it takes to have international success, he’s talented, has a strong image and perhaps the most important is that he has the full support of RCA/Sony but saying that he’s worldwide famous right now is a big stretch

I’m pretty sure he said that Strut wouldn’t be his first single…I can’t remember what interview that was, but it was recent.

ETA: Oh, and Feeling Good is hand’s down my favorite recording of his. IMO it’s better than Muse’s version (I have also become a huge fan of Muse — thank you Adam! — Their Haarp live concert DVD is awesome btw) — But Muse pwns Starlight. Sorry Adam.

  • Sherena

I’m pretty sure he said that Strut wouldn’t be his first single’ ¦I can’t remember what interview that was, but it was recent.

He said he liked Strut but that he didn’t know what his single was yet. He didn’t specifically rule out any song, so it still COULD be Strut.

ETA: I’m remembering this from an interview after the AMA noms, I don’t remember which. I haven’t listened to the Laura Saltman one, so he could very well have ruled out Strut during that interview.

  • suebrody

I think you’re right, Janus, about Strut (maybe that was in the interview with Laura Saltman?), but I am more bummed about the lack of a release date for single #1. :( I realize that haven’t finalized this yet (well, as of a few days ago), but don’t they need to SOON? It has to before the AMAs, and I assume the press junket would start before the album drops (is it afterward? God, I am clueless). Anyway, guess we’ll hae to see.

Okay, so goodnight, all. Hope to find Details tomorrow (or pre-order it) and get some more news. Off to listen to TfM before bed. :)

  • boredinschool

I think in one interview he said Strut was NOT his single and in another that it COULD BE. Im assuming that his publicist corrected him but, I’m not sure which interview happened first so I don’t know which one is right.
    Oh hmm
I think that the one where he said it was a possibility was the one posted recently, he was still in the press room at the time. Then I THINK Laura Saltman asked him and he said no (I THINK). He was interviewed by her in a seperate room, so I assume after the aforementioned interview. Conclude from that what you will….

As far as we can tell it should be on the 27th, same day as it’s scheduled to be released on Amazon. But the dates have changed a few times so hard to say for sure. I’m sure that as soon as it’s available, someone will post an announcement here and MJ will put up a thread with the download link for both iTunes and Amazon. That’s how it usually works anyway.

Naw, that was pre-idol demo work Adam did as a hired-gun session singer. The Want demo wasn’t intended for him, he just sang it so it could be shopped around for other artists. And when it first surfaced, there was another artist that had recording it officially.

I love it too. Its lyrical genius is unsurpassed by all except, possibly, that of ‘I Got This’

While it is difficult to beat Micheal Burtscher’s lyrical artistry of repeating “Love is all we want, love is all we need” like thirty times in Want, I think Adam as a budding songwriter does it with the heartfelt line “bendy bendy, bangy bangy, lose your mind on all my candy” in I Got This.

    /snark

LOL, I may giggle at some of Adam’s first attempts at pop music lyrics, but I actually do think he CAN be clever with words, and I’m really hoping that some of the great people he’s collaborating with can bring this out in a good way. But still, I cannot tell a lie, I Got This in all its lulzy glory is one of my guilty pleasures. Its play count in my iTunes is embarrassingly high.

  • cosem

TFM is available on itunes in Greece too, I just bought it… I don’t know why or how this is happening.. Maybe it has something to do with the movie? Because the buzz around 2012 is HUGE here, more than Twillight. And TFM is a song from the soundtrack not Adam’s first single. Anyway I trust that today, sooner or later it will be released everywhere.

  • smartalek

When is TFM going to be released on iTunes in the US? It’s driving me crazy already. I need to know. So I can buy it. The Oprah thing sounds nice but not if for my Adam fix right now if u know what I mean.

But still, I cannot tell a lie, I Got This in all its lulzy glory is one of my guilty pleasures. Its play count in my iTunes is embarrassingly high.

The bad lyrics quotient and amateur music of that and “I’ve Got This,” are fairly high, so lulz on, is what I say.

That being said, Adam’s voice in “Want,” is pretty nice and it has a Beatles-esque vibe that with Adam’s voice, almost manages to maybe save it. It’s pleasant, at least. “I’ve Got This” has such a bad intro and bad lyrics, oy. Yet parts of it are the skeleton of a decent “electro-pop-rock,” song, so it’s not totally without value. But it would need a serious lyric overhaul and much better production values, and tightening up that beginning.

A less than enthusiastic review of TFM.

Well considering how much, IIRC, Buddy dislikes Adam and was against his will liking the clip with the movie he heard, not terribly surprising. And what’s more I agree that the full clip isn’t as good, because that clip had some of Adam’s best vocals and the full clip was a flabby cheesy mess. The good part of this review is that he rightly, to my mind, doesn’t blame Adam for the weaknesses in the song. And Adam’s vocals were enough to make him want to hear the some better music for his real single. Agreed.

    Hi Truthiness.
I didn’t mind this review at all. The guy gave an honest opinion.

I do disagree that the full song is inferior to the clip. I love the song.. the emotional opening, the build, the rock wailing and the sweet, subdued ending.
I love the layered harmonies, all sung by Adam.
Adam tells a story with TFM. It makes me feel.

That said, I always respect a reviewer who doesn’t pander.

  • saga

So I am guessing that Adams single will be released next week? He is still recording this week right?

That said, I always respect a reviewer who doesn’t pander.

Or who doesn’t listen with an ear open only for something to criticize. Sometimes it feels like they couldn’t be bothered to listen but are writing only to repeat how much they dislike him. A blank page is so much of an opportunity to them that they just can’t resist yet another jibe.

I actually agree with some of what he said- the transitions in TFM do not work for me at all.

  • lizziegs

so far the reviews at Rolling Stone are all 5 stars and great.

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

Sony would have to be insane to not release Time for Miracles today, or tomorrow at the latest. To continue to allow rampant illegal downloading will take a bite out of sales.

  • Studio57

Doesn’t look like Adam will be on Oprah this week- she has her schedule up and there is no Reality Star segements scheduled. They don’t have anything for Friday except that it will be a live show.

  • Chicagolaw

I really don’t get why they are waiting with iTunes. The song is out there already, people are reviewing it; seems a strange business move to me. Unless they think releasing it at the time of it’s “opening” for MJ will give it big early numbers (although I don’t know why they would care when it is a soundtrack single and not even off Adam’s album). If they wait too long, it will end up releasing at the same time as Adam’s single—and that doesn’t make much sense.

  • unique28v

I don’t think they care that much about album sales. The only sales they care about are movie sales. I see the song as another way to promote the movie. Its not to promote Adam. Some movies don’t even release singles. You have to buy the whole album to get any of the songs.

  • unique28v

Have there been only blog reviews of TFM? buddyTV, Yahoo, etc. Have any actual music sites reviewed the song like billboard, rollingstone, etc.?

So, I do agree that the transitions are probably the weakest bits of the full TFM (especially the one around the 3:15 mark – with the modulation into a new key). But I think the full version is definitely better than the little snippet. I also love his vocal subtleties throughout the song, showing how he can go from an earthy, sweet ballad to full out rocker, emo mode. Very lovely voice. Though Cavallo should have tightened the production a little bit. Just a few tweeks and it would be about perfect.

That’s a good point – 2012 will be big overseas, more so than in just the US (movies like this do well with the worldwide distribution, rather than necessarily just US box office.) I’m reminded of films like Troy, too -similar success overseas.

So maybe the song roll out is matching that interest. Of course, it means it suddenly sucks to be in the US :-(

  • ljsmack

Since Kris and his team are choosing his album tracks today and his album comes out a couple of weeks before Adam’s, it doesn’t make sense that Adam’s single from his TBD titled album will be any time soon. I would bet that Sony/RCA wants to get the max out of TfM and that the TBD single will be a rockin’ Adam.

  • koshka

Have there been only blog reviews of TFM? buddyTV, Yahoo, etc. Have any actual music sites reviewed the song like billboard, rollingstone, etc.?

I’m not sure I would toss this over to music critics, but maybe movie critics instead. Its for a movie & has a different purpose and therefore the construction requirements are different. The song is almost 5 minutes long.. no doubt on purpose to get through all those credits. So, yeah, I think Mary102 is right, it could be tightened up and it would sound better, but then it would be constructed for radio, not for the movies. I think the song is ok & Adam’s vocals save it. I’m not disappointed, the song serves its purpose well.

I’ll be more interested in what the critics say about his first single… if we ever hear it.

Another Magazine thing to add. This time it’s InStyle
    http://www.adam-lambert.net/gallery/albums/Mags/InStyle/IMG_0021.jpg

OMG. HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT

Is it bad that I’m scouring this for style tips from Adam ;-) Hmm, make-up, hair products to use…

I tend to agree, based on the concerts, and even boards, that Adam’s fans are probably the most diverse demo of all of this year’s contestants. TONS of younger kids love him, plus tons of other people in their teens on up. Kris seems to have the most college/20-somethings.

In general, though, I agree with CindyM above that the 20-29 age group is not as invested in Idol in general (many of my friends look down on it as a stupid show, for instance, and laugh at me for getting so invested in it. Whatevs – I’m having a good time, and that’s all that matters :-) )

Good point about it being designed for a movie, hence serving a different purpose. I hadn’t thought of that. I can point out one very minor, yet irksome flaw (imo) in this song – the transition at that 3:15 mark (or thereabouts), is about a beat to beat and a half too long – just trim that and I’m a happy camper (not sure why that was allowed to stay that way – it just doesn’t flow as well).

But then, as with everything Adam, I tend to over-analyze it all to death. Otherwise I do really really love the song, and his voice is AMAZING on it!

  • Q3

IMO the full TfM is far better than the 0:28 sec clip. I was totally surprised that Henrik Batallones wrote the “goosebumps” review of the clip in the first place since he was so negative about Adam during the Idol competition. But the fact that even in this negative review of TfM, from one of Adam’s harshest critics, inclulded this:

But, to Adam’s credit, I don’t blame him for it. I still think his album would be an excitingly scary weird mix of his vocals and slightly blatant indulgences, and I still think it’d all work out fine in the end. I just hope his work won’t go the direction of “Time for Miracles”–cheesy, boring, and more or less terrible. Unfortunately, it was a damper to my expectations, sort of.

.. give me hope that his album will get a fair critical review — and that is all that ask for.

  • Mary102

See – from this critique, though, it brings to mind that TFM is supposed to serve a VERY SPECIFIC PURPOSE in the context of the movie (ending the whole thing, setting the mood for, well, a time for hope, miracles, what have you) – if that doesn’t scream cheese, bombast, ballady goodness, I don’t know what does. So in that respect, I think the song more than does what it needs to do, that Adam’s voice makes it rise and standout even more than similar big budget ballady songs, and that it is most certainly not to be compared to what the album will be like, since TFM is for another purpose entirely (to support the movie).

There is alot of love for Adam there as well, I’d almost say equal love. I think Adam’s no nonsense attitude and ‘in your face’ music will appeal to this age group especially when it is all said and done. What teen and 20-something doesn’t want to live their lives without having someone else telling them how?

ETA: Mary102, I think you are right that one part of the song is not good. I kinda wonder if they didn’t add lyrics or somehow extend it to get the song length.

  • Studio57

Poor Adam. Bad reviews for this movie song are going to kill his career. Just like it did for Carrie Underwood and that cheesefest that was Ever Ever After from the movie Enchanted.
    Lyrics:

Storybook endings, fairy tales coming true
Deep down inside we want to believe they still do
And a secret is taught, it’s our favorite part of the story
Let’s just admit we all want to make it too

    Ever ever after
If we just don’t get it our own way
    Ever ever after
It may only be a wish away

What ever happened to that girl? Oh, well. She will probably pop up on one of those Celebrity Rehab shows with Dr. Drew sooner or later.

Allow me to clarify, because I don’t think what I wrote was correctly worded – I think Kris’s biggest demographic is 20 somethings (college age, etc.) as well as probably lots of teens too. However, I think Adam probably still has more fans than him within these groups. Adam has a substantial AI fanbase – and I think it is easily the most diverse – ranging from the very young to the very old. Everyone else, imo, has more niche followings, Kris included. Generalizations, I know, but, take it fwiw.

And wrt TFM – very possible that they needed to add an extra beat or two for the purposes of the movie – wish with the official “non-movie” release (e.g. – radio-friendly one) they had edited those extra beats out.

Here we go! My take on the Gaga connection with Lambert is that there is something going on. (You know, the old where there is smoke, there is fire tired cliche.)

I’m not sure what it could be, but every chance Adam gets, he mentions that he would like to work with Lady Gaga. (See InStyle interview for the latest.)

Also, when Dish of Salt was asking questions, Adam very specifically says “No OFFER has been made.” When I heard that, my first thought is that is his way of being vague, but not denying that NEGOTIATIONS may be ongoing. JMO of course.

Also, Q3 said a few days/weeks ago that there was a buzz going around LA about Lambert and Gaga but nobody really knew anything.

I checked the comments, and although I spek absolutely none of this language, I think it says “the best of all -Adam Lambert music for the fiim-”Time for Miracles” Either this is a fan already or they noticed the song.

  • Dallas

Also, IMHO, Time for Miracles is going to be released in a manner that works for the movie, not necessarily for Adam. This is a movie song, produced for a movie and a movie soundtrack NOT an Adam song. I really do think that the release of the song is more centered around what works best for this 2012 global movie and how they can use the buzz around Adam to best promote the movie. While I am sure Adam’s people want to make sure it doesn’t interfere with his own song/album promo, I still think the reason it was changed in the US was due to the music video trailer etc. during This is It in conjuction with movie promo, etc.

At first I thought Adam might do something w/Gaga on the AMA’s just as Alicia Keys has invited JayZ to perform with her on the AMA’s. But then I figured the AMA’s were such a coup for Adam, so why does he need to share the spotlight? I think LadyGaGa performing w/Adam would demote Adam to 2nd billing rather than the spotlight.

If it turns out that their meeting IS for the AMA’s, I don’t think we will be in suspense for long. It was announced that JayZ would be performing with Alicia Keys only a couple of days after the initial line-up was announced.

  • Dallas

Adam just mentions her way too much for there not to be some kind of connection. If he had not been in contact with her peeps, it would almost sound like he was begging or something (which I do not believe he would do.)

I have believed and still do that there are some negotiations going on or there is already a collaboration and he is pimping her just like he does all of his friends and colleagues. And I mean that in a good way of course.

I hope he is performing on the AMAs on his own.

I truly can’t imagine that Adam’s team would want him to share his AMA spotlight with anyone else — it’s just too big an opportunity for him to introduce himself to a wider audience. The only exception I could imagine is if they feel they need to do something to create extra buzz, so people are talking about it the next day when his album releases.

Well – he did mention performing his first single on the AMA’s – so that would seem to rule out a Gaga duet, unless they do some cool segue from him to her. If it can generate buzz the next day, and good buzz, not Kanye-quality buzz, that’s ok with me :-)

Also, IMHO, Time for Miracles is going to be released in a manner that works for the movie, not necessarily for Adam. This is a movie song, produced for a movie and a movie soundtrack NOT an Adam song.

I think people are forgetting this point…..
