I only hear an Adam song during an interview.

I heard two of the interviews, the sophie one and the star one. He was great on both of them and boy did the djays love him (and I LOL’ed at all the fans who emailed star 94.1 I was hysterical at the woman who wanted to adopt Adam and then said that she had a son and if he was gay, she would have liked to set him up with Adam. I particularly was happy that he picked IIHY as his favorite song on sophie (well, no, I think Music Again, might be, but he wanted them to play IIHY first) and it sounded GREAT.

I was also thinking that Adam sounded great on Ellen but BRILLIANT singing that way w/ the flu. Guess no rest for the weary, or not today. But that’s fine–good publicity all the way around!

Yes, I have heard that a song needs about 1000 spins in seven days-they count from Sun-Sat. So it probably wont get there this week, but should move up alot. I know Audience Impression is a factor too, and he is being played on two huge stations. I know there are others here who know more about this than I do..I just obsessively look at the numbers!

BTW FYE is pretty much dead today-think I saw 11 spins

You’re right — for the Liberty Counsel folks it IS about homophobia. I went to their website to read their FCC complaint against ABC, and at the bottom of the page announcing the complaint, they included a message that encourages their members to buy the following book:

“Same-Sex Marriage: Putting Every Household at Risk

Anyone who cares about children should read this book by Mat Staver.”

Gives you a good sense of where they are coming from, doesn’t it?

Eventually ABC’s actions will have a backlash effect from their own on air talent because it is restricting them as well in presenting their best shows.

And I can’t see them as an innocent partner here, they pimped the shock value of his show and approved of the general setup. They had to power to edit part due to the delay. This is probably not the first time something like this has happened.

Do you all realize how easy it is to file an FCC complaint? You don’t have to be a lawyer, anybody can do it and it takes about 15 minutes. If Matt Barber and the Liberty Counsel were not pushing their well known anti-homosexual agenda by filing and publicizing their complaint, then why did they not file against anyone but Adam for the AMA show?

Adam’s act was not the only offensive performance that occurred before 10 PM. The fact is their focus is not protecting the children, it is going after homosexuality. If this were not true, they would not have singled Adam out. Spin it all you want, but the fact that Adam is gay has everything to do with the Liberty group’s outrage.

Well I happen to agree that ABC’s decision had nothing to do with homophobia. GLAAD wants to go after things that do, like CBS’s decision to blur out a picture of Adam/Tommy and not Britney/Madonna. I don’t consider that eating their own.

I happen to disagree. It may not be only the reason but it is the underlying reason at minimum. I don’t think GLAAD should have responded at all. They are perpetuating a bigotry and don’t even realize it. With the most recent statement of the performance being a Lude Stage show when 97% of what was shown was in rehearsal is hypocritical. You can not tell me if it was a straight guy and it was a women this would go this far. Yes people would be upset but not to this degree. Adam has a simulated BJ gesture with a woman right after and no one is even talking about that image. I think people are confusing two separate issue. Was it crude and OTT. I sure the hell think so. But so was about 5 other acts that night and no one even blinks an eye. Excuses are made for each of those other performance. (I don’t see where being and established artist means you can be crude and then it is ok.) Say what you will the Kiss is fueling most of the outrage. Because it was done defiantly and spontaneously. (and is similar to the Adrian Brody Kiss because Halley Barry did not expect it. Where is the harassment, being forced argument there. Just saying) ABC is making this a media hoopla and I am sure made some deal with GLADD to get pressure off of them. Er, or homophobia either. That was a lame typo on my part. Not as lame as ABC, but lame nonetheless.

Anyhew, no I don’t, no I didn’t read the LA Times article (more stupid corporate work today, grrrr) yet, but I don’t think it will matter if it chooses to go after idea of the AMAs and ABC’s response with the GMAs being due to homophobia, not general “lewdness.” Though if they explore the idea that Disney/ABC and indeed the FCC might be bowing more to groups who actually are homophobic, like that Liberty crap, than that’s a valid point. Because groups like that group are indeed mixing up valid concerns about Adam’s performance with the fact that it was men/men acts and kisses.

But I think those are in separate issues. The issue of FCC being too swayed by homophobic/Christian Right groups organizing spurious, but highly organized campaigns against perceived wrongs, is a valid one and one that pisses me off. Separate from that however is the argument that people’s objections as a whole from Adam’s performance were homophobic. Because most people I know who hated Adam’s peformance, myself included, are not homophobic. It was an icky performance and might have been FCC fineable.

Anyways, just because I think Adam is wrong about that, doesn’t mean that I think ABC is justified in their over(imo)reaction and doesn’t mean I stop being a fan of Adam. So, I’m looking forward to seeing all the interviews and pictures when I get home tonight. It will give me something to look forward to.

I agree that we don’t know if the complaint to FCC was behind the decision, even though both Barbara and Adam says so. If it’s not, I still say they are overreacting a bit. This became big because they made it big. Adam went too far from script, yes, and he didn’t understand how vital it was to stay on script when you play with male/male sexuality.

He’s eating healthy. I saw him with Freshology at an AMA rehearsal, I remember because it’s too expensive for me but I’d do it in a minute if I could !

Yeah, I noticed today how skinny he is (not thin, skinny). He said he had gained around 15 lbs on the show, but I bet he’s lost at least 30, and he’s so tall that it’s probably easy to lose weight. He said he’s eating more healthy, but my guess is that he isn’t really eating at all right now (like I’d know). He had said that he had eaten a lot of junk food on the show, too, but I should try his current diet. Heh.

I agree w/ MJ. Something is fishy at ABC. And I mean a LOT fishy, b/c the other stations are picking him up really quickly, and yet ABC seems to be bashing him a lot. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him pulled off the most fascinating people. It’s ironic now, at any rate.

Ugh. First off, TMZ’s headline and story are very misleading. GLAAD isn’t “backing” ABC’s decision, they’re simply saying they’re satisfied that homophobia isn’t the reason for it. Nowhere do they say they support the cancellations.

Why their statement is so focused on the kiss is mystifying. The kiss was never the central issue in any of this, except perhaps in Elizabeth Hasselbeck’s mind.

GLAAD does seem to be backing off of their earlier stance when they were highly critical of the GMA cancellation.

But the Liberty Counsel isn’t just one person. Groups like that, or the PTC organize their members to all individually complain, and go to their lawmakers and threaten lawsuits and they go to sponsors. Some will cave, some will not. I remember the brouhaha about Rachel Ray’s “terrorist scarf,” in a commerical for Dunkin’ Donuts that groups like that, using things like Fox, were able to make a big enough stink over, so that the ad was pulled. And that was just a checkered scarf that they contended look like Yasser Arafats. What Adam did was lewd so they can get support for that beyond their normal homophobic/Religioius Right base. Plus their normal working with other Conservative like-minded groups. I mean it, that small slice of PTC timeline was chilling, though not at all, suprising to me. Small, but organized groups of religious/political conservatives can have an outsized reaction to their size because of this and because laws and precedents were set in the last administration.

Because Babs and Adam aside, the FCC still isn’t saying anything and either is ABC about that issue. Which if they’re investigating, fine they might not want to comment, but odd that there is no offical statement at all for such a high profile incident as this has turned out to be. But then 1500 complaints really isn’t that impressive. Though again sure, it could very well turn out to this be FCC, or more like groups threatening to go the FCC if not listened to, and/or sponsors. That’s an old one from the playbook.

Oh and yeah, Adam is getting pretty thin, though he still looks his pre-Idol weight, though maybe a bit thinner than his audition weight. If he’s happier being at that weight, I don’t think it’s a problem. Unless as I’ve said before, his AMA performance was the result of being too nervy and not having enough pasta in him. Maybe with a bowl of Amy’s organic mac and cheese that day, he wouldn’t have made such disasterous choices onstage. (no, I don’t really believe that).

I totally adore the ‘fresh’ look. Less is more where I’m concerned. The mophead he had on Star was just too adorable for words.

From what I understand the Liberty group has filed a formal complaint with the FCC saying that Adam’s performance violated the FCC legal standard for obscenity. Which includes something along the lines of it’s obscene if that’s what most people would find offensive???? So the FCC is required to investigate and make a ruling regarding whether or not a violation occurred (if they rule yes, then ABC can get huge fines). ABC will have to cooperate with the investigation which is going to cost them legal fees to try to keep from getting fined. I’m thinking that if ABC received no complaints about any performance but Adam’s (I’m referring to the 1500 complaints that ABC says it received) wouldn’t this seem to indicate that the public accepts that level of “sexiness” or “lewdness” for lack of a better word. Then it comes down to proving Adam’s performance was more “lewd” than the other earlier performances and enough more lewd to be considered obscene by the FCC standard. I hope what I said makes some sense.

Regardless of all that it still doesn’t make a lot of sense why ABC is continuing to cancel his performances.

According to the LA Times article, the FCC only has obscenity rules to 10pm. Adam’s performance was at 11:00pm (10:55pm). So what is being held over ABC’s head to cancel all of Adam’s appearances because I am sure it all comes down to money. Could it be the Disney image influence? Apparently Chris Brown isn’t allowed to perform either. Is there some “moral” hypocrit in control of ABC who can throw his authority around and blame it on the fCC? If it is the FCC who also controls the other networks, why isn’t Adam banned from the others too? That is why I think it is ABC’s decision.

Please, not the time zone thing again. I don’t have the energy to explain it. Suffice it to say the AMAs ended at 11:00 in NY and Calif but the very same show ended at 10:00 in the middle of the country. This is nothing new, prime time shows end an hour earlier there, always have as far as I know.
