Adam Lambert talked to FOX news this morning about those rumors that Queen is interested in Adam as their new lead singer. Adam says I think there was some interest…that would be really wild.” When the reporter pressed he laughed, “I’m pleading the 5th.”

He says sharing the stage with Kris Allen and great bands like KISS and Queen was a “crowning achievement.”

  • silverwings

Adam, love ya, but don’t do it. You gotta make your own music first.

  • Renina

Adam is so awesome. He completely deserved that win, but I have no doubt that he will be better off for not getting it, and totally surpass any expectations made for him. :thumbup_tb:

  • isisdagmar

If he could do a few special performances with Queen, that would be seriously incredible–but I do want to hear his own music, and I think that’s what he wants to make. I guess, as he said, we’ll see!

He and Kris are such lovely people. Really, the kind of sweetness they have is rare, and to find it in two such talented people is amazing.

Danny’s words were very sweet. I will never be able to figure out what to think about him–there are signs of unpleasantness in things like that video, and then there are words like this. Odd.

  • GeminiDolly

Dont fade away, Adam. Pursue music. please. you are too amazing to just fade away like the other runner ups (minus clay, archie)

  • annabelina

I like how they managed to get a big clip of Gokey in there, and then John McCain directly following!

    “Adam Lambert à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Pleads the 5thà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on Queen Rumors”

I see what you did there, mj ;)

Serious: I’m a little disappointed that Adam didn’t win. I’m not even sure I’d like his album but it would have been more interesting if he had won IMO. But I’m really happy for Kris. Most of all I’m heartened by the effortlessly caring and admiring vibe between Kris and Adam.

“If he could do a few special performances with Queen, that would be seriously incredible”

Yeah, I agree, special performances with them would give him great exposure and validation, but I’m really curious what HIS own music would sound like…

  • JB1

Adam as Queens lead singer would be amazing!!

Kind words by Danny… maybe we in bloggerville don’t really understand how these guys all get along after all.

  • JB1

The more i think about Adam with Queen the more I like it. It gets him instant mega exposure. it would be the most talked about tour ever. Major major instant credibility, then in a few years he goes off and does his own thing. It never hurt anyone to be the front man of a popular band…

  • Victoria

    Don’t do it, Adam. Please!

He needs to make his own music. If he wants to perform with Queen occasionally, fine. But he needs to be a current artist and do his own thing.

  • Heart

Adam is so gracious towards everyone.

Can’t he do the Queen frontman thing sometimes? Would love to see that on TV again! MTV awards shows are coming up. Maybe on other music award shows?

It is so typical Gokey to make the Adam question about Danny Gokey. I’m glad he remembered to switch gears and talk about Adam and say good things. I’ll give him credit for that.

  • monleo1705

Er…..anyone please tell me what is Plead the 5th???? pleasee?? anyone??? :doh_tb:

  • snuffles

I think the Queen thing would be performing with them on occassion. Not literally joining the band. Don’t they mostly tour these days? They haven’t put out original music in nearly 20 years right?

I think Adam can put out his OWN album this fall and later (maybe next year) do some tour dates with Queen overseas to help introduce him to the world wide audience.

  • snuffles

“Plead the 5th” mean he doesn’t want to say anything on the grounds he might incriminate himself.

  • goldenlpb

Could he make his own music and do it with the Queen band? It would be double the exposure.

  • http://twitter.com/nokking nokking

ohhh I love the idea of Adam as Queen frontman, but there’s also a lot of other things I want to see him do, so I don’t know! I’m just glad that these professionals can appreciate his talents, that something good is coming his way. Go Adam!

A person can remain silent to avoid self-incrimination. So, Adam doesn’t want to give anything away at this time until everything is looked at and see if it can happen.

  • impqueen

Wow, maybe my fangirly hopes from last night are coming true after all!

The cool thing about Adam doing a run with Queen is that Brian May and Roger Taylor are not likely to want to keep touring forever. They’re kind of part-time rock legends now. It’s like, stay home and hang out, then go be a rock legend for awhile, make some cash, do some dates, then go home and recover again.

Appearing with Queen for a few dates, or a tour, or even an album or six would not keep Adam from making his own music – if anything, working with Queen could facilitate that for him. Freddie Mercury himself did side projects even during Queen’s initial heyday. While nobody can ever be Freddie again, Adam has the purity of tone, the incredible range, and definitely a similar (if updated) stage presence.

People all over the world love Queen. People love Adam. We know he can sing their stuff. I think it’s brilliant, and I really hope it happens.

  • abbysee

I love the idea of Adam being asked to front Queen, not the reality of it. I would love for him perhaps to do a few high profile gigs with them, but I need Adam to do his thing, whatever that may be, new, current rock/pop music. I can get behind it.

  • calimari

I remember this same argument when Chris Daughtry finished 4th, some band offered to bring him on. Half the folks thought he should do it as it’s a great offer/honor/instant money and career. While others thought he should take the risk and put out his own music.

Slightly different situation here w/ Queen in that they aren’t really putting out more music anymore, but they do occasionally tour, and they have to have a front man for it now. They did a tour a couple years back & I did not go as it was not Freddie Mercury (I saw Queen live back in 1980). But last night I told my husband I would see Queen again in a heartbeat w/ Adam fronting them.

This would result in instant exposure/experience/credibility for Adam, but since it would not be full time it would also give him the opportunity to put out his own record. Maybe make some really wonderful connections.

It might be that Queen doesn’t plan on touring for a year or two. If that’s the case, he could put out his album and then tour w/ them. I think it would be cool. I’d love to see him work both angles.

  • Isuzan

There’s a tiny chance that Danny and Adam have a good relationship, but look at the body language during their tenure…umm…no. I think both are just trying to be PC (which is fine – I don’t want them to tear each other down!)…but I doubt they’re buds!

I agree snuffles, Queen wanted to perform with Adam, do you think that any record company in their right minds would say no to Adam getting that kind of exposure worldwide? I have also heard that KISS wants
Adam to perform with them when he can legally do so. Our boy’s star is on the rise in the music business.

I can’t believe all those ppl who saw Adam sing Crawl thru fire got to see him perform that live! Too generous imo! That voice of his is worth big $$$$$ and I would gladly pay even though I’m a university student and pretty much broke most of the time lol he deserves it

  • heathus

I’d rather he didn’t. This is like when Fuel tried to get Daughtry to be there new lead singer. He should work on his own music first.

  • virgo03v

Yes. You summed it up for me. This way, he could have the best of both worlds. Make his own current music, as well as appear in special performances with a legend band. Life can’t get any better than that!!

  • http://www.AuthorsTeam.com ghostwriter

tricky question. He was really good with Queen, not so interesting with Kiss. Fuel was a band with a few hits, Queen was legendary– and the music totally fits his voice. Of course, demographically, he will get famous with a bunch of older boomers, so prolly not his best move. But he would get an amazing opportunity to sell out arenas.

  • David

The problem with being the current frontman for Queen is there is no way to avoid being compared to Freddie Mercury, and there was only one Freddie Mercury. As far as I’m concerned Queen just isn’t Queen with anyone else at the helm, no matter how good they are. They become more of a “tribute band” than the real thing. This is not a slam at Adam.

  • maturin

On the contestant’s web sites: this is interesting.

Those are definitely RCA websites–in fact, it’s the same frustrating web site structure, complete with backwards board posting, as David Cook’s. They just cloned the same site and used different colors and banners.

I’m guessing this is meant to correct a boat that was missed last year, when official MySpace pages for the winner and runner were created right after the show, but the labels did not put up full official websites until the end of the tour. In the interim, fan-created communities got the bulk of the hundreds of thousands of page views, video views, for Cook and Archie throughout the summer.

In the case of David Cook, the fan-run site “david-cook.org” built such a lead on visits, posts, and members that to this day Google ranks it higher then http://www.davidcookofficial.com

I guess they figured out this year there’s an advantage to getting an early entry into the fan community thing.

I’m not positive that means for sure both singers are signed to the RCA label–because they could set up these sites now to grab the post show hype, and simply replace them with other sites if circumstances changed.

Or, it could mean what it looks like, and both Kris and Adam are going to join Cook, Kelly, and Daughtry as RCA labelmates.

  • sallyas1

I love the idea of Adam fronting Queen fulltime. As long as Queen is willing to record again. I suspect the only way Adam would consider it would be if they were willing to record.

If Queen doesn’t want to record, then I can see him doing the “special occasion” thing with them. And not a bad way for him to go either. Adam would be gaining valuable contacts through them and could work on his solo music as well.

Fronting Queen would give Adam more cred with the rock world. The rock world, especially the classic rock style guys, are for the most part very snobby. They view Idol contestants as “lightweights” (for lack of a better word). Yes Daughtry was offered the lead for Fuel, but even he is still not given his just due by that world. But no one in the rock world would dare dream to call Queen lightweight.

I still think another offer may be coming down the pike – from Zeppelin. Just a hunch. Once Zeppelin gave clearance to Idol for one of their songs, the first time in Idol history that has ever happened, I started thinking they had to be looking at Adam as a replacement for Robert Plant, who has said he wants to continue his Allison Krause work.

  • gbvrallyci

Queen put out al album at the end of the summer. So they do have new material out. I for one would love to see them tour as Queen Adam Lambert for a little while!

  • snuffles

If Adam does the Queen thing, I think it should be PART TIME. Do the occassional tour across Europe and stuff.

  • kimberann

I think Adam would be GREAT with Queen! Many have said that throughout the season. Queen is one of the most popular bands of all time.

  • gangreen29

I’m sorry but I think touring with Queen is a horrible idea, I was not the biggest fan of Adam on the show, but I loved his preshow dance music and I hope that is the direction he goes in. I think the biggest knock against Adam for me on the show was that he felt very dated, stuck in the early 80s, something that I think he could very easily break with new current relevant music, not touring as a second rate freddie mercury impersonator for a predominantly middle aged audience.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I’m confused here. Why is everyone assuming that if Adam did in fact join Queen he couldn’t do his own music? Would it suddenly render him incapable of writing? I can’t imagine Brian May and Roger Taylor would be adverse to creating brand new songs.

As for stuck in the 80′s all I can say is please go check out Lady GaGa, Cobra Starship, My Chemical Romance, Paramore…….

  • mandalay

sallyas1, Adam could replace Plant in a heartbeat. I personally think he has a better voice. A lot of casual AI fans I know have said that Whole Lotta Love was better than Plant.

Still think Queen would be awesome too. Not permanent necessarily. But if he can make new music with them…………………………..

  • adamisthemanfan

The 80′s had great music, much better than a bunch of the crap out there today! That is why Adam is so appealing to ppl of all ages…please stop trying to diss Adam and the 8o’s 70′s it was a great period for music.

  • gangreen29

starrlight, their is a difference between being influenced by the 80s, and still creating a new modern sound, and performing like someone transplanted right from the 80s which adam came across a lot of the time to me.

This kind of gets me in the gut, because of course Adam (and especially his managers and all those kinds of people) will be thinking about how this will affect his career, his new music, his image, his target demographic. And really, shouldn’t he just be allowed to indulge and BE Queen for a while? You know he must have dreamed about it as a kid, what Queen fan didn’t? But it’s likely just so much fluff, will come to nought. It also seemed a bummer when the X Factor runner up Rhydian Roberts turned down the offer to star in Phantom of the Opera at the West End, even though he said he’d always wanted to do it. He sold a lot of records in the UK, so I guess it was worth it? I sometimes cynically wonder if these high-profile offers are just an effort to get names in the news (Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber, I mean you).

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

starrlight, their is a difference between being influenced by the 80s, and still creating a new modern sound, and performing like someone transplanted right from the 80s which adam came across a lot of the time to me.

  • glamadamfan

Long term major Queen here, and much as I’d love to see Adam front Queen for a special event or two, right now, he’s better off going out on his own. Let Queen hire George Michael who did a great job on “Somebody To Love” for one tribute. Adam could do it way better, of course, but Adam is going to have his own awesome career after this.

By the way, Queen did record an album with Paul Rodgers last year called “The Cosmos Rocks”. Personally, I couldn’t even listen to it, but a lot of people liked it.

The only way I’d go see Queen live is if they had Adam as their lead singer, or someone of his caliber, capable of covering Freddie, but there aren’t many who can.

  • goldenlpb

MTV rating of Adam 5 is one person’s opinion…..did you see who is first according to him? My opinion would be completely different…that rating holds no water in my book.

  • glamadamfan

Starrlight, I don’t think Adam could do both his own music and a worldwide tour with Queen. That would be too much.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

While I do want Adam to go forge his own path musically, anyone would be a fool to give a flat “no” to any interest Queen may have shown. Hopefully he can keep that door open while proceeding with his own plans and maybe if it ever really comes to pass do a date with them here or there.

He really needs time to digest things and complete the tour before taking on too much. I did hear him say he was eager to get started writing and seemed to imply that people were ready when he was. No doubt offers have been coming in from all directions. I remember how tired Cook got last year flying in and out of every state in the union while on tour, but they have to strike while the iron is hot I guess.

I was very happy to hear him say that he was going to pursue visuals to accompany the music. Cannot wait!!

Dare I dream that he will put out a DVD?
    I just drooled a little :wub_tb:

  • carolinacharms

Lol, at first I thought the title meant something else.

  • IdolThoughts

If he had an opportunity to front Queen…even as a small tour etc….he should take it. They will not be around forever…but they were soooo important to rock history. And, if the members of Queen recognize that Adam could step into Freddie Mercury’s shoes…I would have no problem with him taking that opportunity. Adam has his entire career to promote and create his own music. But, a short window to sing with the original band members of Queen. I also gather that Freddie Mercury is important icon for Adam. So, yeah…in other words…I’m totally in favor of him going for it…if he chooses!

  • GeminiDolly

I cant wait for Adam to go on his own tour. Its going to be so much fun.

  • ShariG

I called this last night. I think he would be a great front man for Queen and there are worse ways to break into the music industry than fronting one of the greatest bands ever. I have been comparing him to Freddy Mercury all season. Good for him either way. He is going to be a great star, but wow, what an honor.

  • pleazurs

    I :wub_tb: QUEEN and I :wub_tb: ADAM !

  • Anastasia72071

Personally, I don’t think I care what type of music Adam does from here on out – I have loved everything he has done so far (I wear out my youtube playlist on a daily basis) and I’m certain I will love whatever he does in the future. I DO want to see/hear him do his own stuff (and lots of it, for years and years to come), but I’ve always been a fan of singers/bands who throw the odd cover tune into the mix, and Adam is sooo great at reinventing songs, so I hope he continues to do that as well.

  • ettacandy

I think this is extremely exciting, and incredibly flattering, for Adam.

If there is any interest or offer, I don’t think it would be the same as Fuel’s offer to Chris Daughtry. As I understand it, Fuel was looking for a new full-time lead singer at the time – and Chris wanted to build his brand, and his reputation, so he formed his own band with his name on it.

Queen’s made it clear that they will never replace Freddy Mercury. Everytime they’ve appeared or recorded with another singer, they call it “Queen and . . ..” I do HIGHLY doubt they would want, nor would they seek, a full time commitment with anyone. They may well be looking at this as a way to revitilize their brand and catalog by featuring a fabulous new singer.

Similarly, Adam will build a name for himself as a recording artist and performer. Appearing with Queen occasionally as their vocalist could easily build his brand (if you will) as his name stays separate from the band name. Know what I mean???

19E would be all over it if it means more record sales, more income, and more visibility for the Adam Lambert brand.

I absolutely love Queen. Having Adam sing with them, and do his own thing too, would be the freaking bomb!

  • lizland

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I meant write with Brian and Roger. They wrote some of Queen’s greatest songs. It just struck me as odd the people would assume that doing one meant he could not do the other. Adam strikes me as the kind of guy who would have no problem saying “I have original music. Let’s take a look at that.”

  • TKat

I remember this same argument when Chris Daughtry finished 4th, some band offered to bring him on. Half the folks thought he should do it as ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a great offer/honor/instant money and career. While others thought he should take the risk and put out his own music.

Daughtry was offer a position as the lead singer with Fuel. At the time they were a multi-platinum band. But that’s not quite the same as a Queen offer, if there is one. Queen has sold over 400 million records. They have a huge fan base and their 2006 Greatest Hits album is the UK all-time best selling album, with sales upwards of 5-1/2 million copies, just in the UK. If I’m not mistaken, they hold a number of Guinnesse records for most weeks at #1 in the UK and US.

I love Queen and for my own personal pleasure, would love to see Adam live with Queen — and make a new Queen album. But aside from doing something like the MTV awards show with them, IMHO it would be a career mistake for Adam to link up with a classic act — no matter how big — instead of making his own music.

Among other things Adam choose to cover Dilana Supernova and Muse. I hope he continues in this direction — alternative rock, progressive rock, new prog and symphonic rock. It really seems to suit his voice, is current and he could really create something new in this space.

You know, I think Adam proved one thing last night. That he is different, but as good as, Freddy Mercury — as a vocalist and as a stage presense. It was an amazing performance. He was even good with — urgh— Kiss.

One thing that Adam could do is do a whole album of performances with his favorates. I would love to hear him do a duet with Christine Aguilera (he said he wanted to do this and she is also on RCA), a song with Queen, a duet with Steve Tyler — after hearing the opening vocal he did with Santana, a duet with Santana. And so on. Let’s make it a double album.

My only worry about Adam is the I don’t trust 19E at all. They seem better equipt to deal with more MOR performers. And one thing is for sure, Adam is not MOR!

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Oh I agree they would have to tour. But a limited tour of the larger festivals would be great exposure without a permanent commitment.

Personally my choice hope is that of all the rumors out there the one that happens is that Adam sings on one of the songs on Slash’s new solo album. He is having guest vocalists for it and *that* I think would be the best of both worlds as far as something new and something with an established act.

  • LaurelG

I agree. A limited tour with Queen as a guest frontman would bring him instant cred but not tie him down. Plus a song on Slash’s new album!! Make it happen.

So Adam’s #5 on the all-time Idol list out of 8 seasons and he didn’t win, hasn’t sold a single album yet or been nominated for an Academy Award. The show just ended yesterday. Too funny.

  • alxsavage

For me, this would be a wonderful way to start his career outside of idol. Just some shows, maybe after the idols tour.

You don’t know how many people are dying to see Adam in Latin America, I have never seen an Idol have that kind of impact around here. If he started as the vocalist of Queen, he would get even more exposure internationally.

I’m glad Simon mentioned the fact that he believed in Adam as a world-wide star. As an international viewer, I’ve always felt that TPTB have been way to naive trying to find the idols that fit only the USA culture and radio trends. It’s like a tunnel kind of vision from them.

I’m still a bit sad (I hate to see that sad look on his eyes in some videos, he is a class act and a great friend, but his eyes can’t lie), but on the other hand I’m so, so excited about his post-idol career. I just have this great feeling about it. :thumbup_tb:

On a side note, I found it a bit funny…the online number of fans on Adam’s official site have been around 800 and 900 the whole day, while the number of visitors on Kris’ site have been below 300. Another interesting statistic fact to think about.

I think the MTV list is a total crack-up — #5 of all time. Nice. Very nice.

  • Thea

I second most of what said above: Queen would be GREAT if for special performances or anyway leaving him time and space to put out his new music. Slash single? YES thank you.

I really think he should take advantage now of these openings by real, certified rock stars, so that his credentials are established from day one, and the music industry sees him as a star, and not “the guy from Idol” (which does tend to bring a “light weight” connotation in the music industry, particularly rock). If you front Queen and collaborate with Slash, people pay attention. Plus, he could get immediate exposure on occasions like the Grammies and similar, and blow people out of the water.

I was watching (and watching, and watching again…) yesterday’s We Are the Champions, and it’s such JOY to see, and hear… Kris gesturing to Adam as if to say “this one is yours”, Adam’s happiness, the approving look on Brian May’s face (I have seen that exact same look during the Freddie Tribute while George Michael was slaying Somebody to Love)…

  • hwc

If Adam can establish an international brand by, for example, doing a world tour with Queen, he doesn’t need the US market and its Brittney/Hip Hop Top 40 market. There is big money touring.

  • Scifisam

The more i think about Adam with Queen the more I like it. It gets him instant mega exposure. it would be the most talked about tour ever. Major major instant credibility, then in a few years he goes off and does his own thing. It never hurt anyone to be the front man of a popular bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

My thoughts exactly. I had heard a rumor top 4 week that Slash had offered him an audition to front Velvet Revolver, and I loved the idea. But that seems to have been nothing more than a rumor. Anyway, I think fronting Queen (or any band of that calibre) for a few years would be perfect for him. I’m always worried for him if he’ll suffer from the “idol stigma” and some time with legendary band like Queen would make that null and void. It would even be a 2 way street, Idol fans who are following Adam would be added to Queens fans, and Adam could TONS of fans from being part of Queen .

No one would have to worry about whether or not he will “make it” again.

  • rockvixen

Say no to Queen Adam. Go do a Daughtry move and do your own music your way…your concerts your way…you will be successful. Remember JD Fortune and INXS…look how that turned after a few years they kicked him to the curb.

Adam has changed me, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not quite sure if I would consider the change an evolution or a regression.

Well, he did promise that a Change was Gonna Come :tongue_wink_ee:

I saw this, too, but I actually thought he looked happier. Thing is, I haven’t seen many genuine smiles on Brian May’s face since Freddy died. Last night, he was really smiling. I loved it.

The change came for me the minute he opened his mouth to sing, he had already caught my attention but I was hooked from the 1st note.

Brian May was indeed a very happy camper last night. The look on his face was like “I thought he was really good, had to come here and find out for myself and hot damn he can get the job done!”

  • 4got

Any one would be a fool to turn down Brian May as their lead guitarist. You CANnOT compare Queen and Fuel.

Queen isn’t Brian May & Co. and it hasn’t succeeded after Freddie Mercury because Queen was Freddie. With such a high launching pad, Adam could soar and make Queen his. Freddie Mercury’s shoes are huge to fit into and no one has succeeded so far but Adam could do it.

He could take Queen to this century with his own music but Queen is timeless. Bohemian Rhapsody is a university mantra and We will Rock You & We are The Champions is a sports mantra. Everyone’s heard that music.

  • EllieA

If it makes you feel any better, I’m five years older than you and just joined his official fansite. I haven’t been a member of a “fan club” since back in the days of Duran Duran fabulousness. LOL. Adam has changed a lot of us and I don’t care if it’s evolution or regression, I just know I’m loving it!

Yeah, I just went back to watch that video again. It makes me happy.

Sorry, but Fuel’s offer to Daughtry was nothing compared to a potential offer from Queen to Adam. Fuel is a few-hit band that is not even on the radar anymore. Queen is a phenomenal, iconic band that has been around for decades, and their music is still revered by millions. Adam’s voice is so uniquely suited to the classic rock sound that I am tempted to side with those who say he should do the Queen gig, if even part-time. The hype it would generate would be huge….I for one would be willing to pay several hundred $$ to see that on tour.

As for his own music, I see no problem in forging his own “rock” music….it’s about time someone started doing original rock music instead of the phony, generic stuff “rock” bands today are putting out. I disagree that Adam is a ‘dated’ performer….

  • lavender1960

Isn’t it ironic that Constantine Maroulis is nominated for a Tony award and this year’s almost American Idol winner came from musical theatre?

Auditions next year should be interesting. Should be filled with musical theatre people because that field is full of people with amazing voices and competition is so fierce for roles let alone starring roles, and Adam might just inspire them to see a new way up the ladder.

  • virgo03v

MTV rating of Adam 5 is one personà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s opinionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..did you see who is first according to him? My opinion would be completely differentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦that rating holds no water in my book.

Actually, Fantasia is a FANTASTIC performer. Her rendition of Summertime is still considered one of, if not the best performance in Idol history.

Adam being rated one of the best idol contestants of all time isn’t just MTV’s opinion. Its also Entertainment Weekly’s, Time Magazine, Newsweek, Rollingstone, Billboard, etc.

Your guy won. Don’t be so bitter. Its ok that people still like Adam too. LOL

  • virgo03v

I think the MTV list is a total crack-up à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ #5 of all time. Nice. Very nice.

At least Adam made the list. haha I do think it was low, but happy he was included. LOL

So Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s #5 on the all-time Idol list out of 8 seasons and he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t win, hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t sold a single album yet or been nominated for an Academy Award. The show just ended yesterday. Too funny.

Not really. Even a blind person can see the impact Adam made on the show. He was the most talked about, wrote about, discussed, plastered contestant. People are STILL talking and writing about him. EW gave him his own cover before he even made the finale. You can’t buy that type of free publicity.

  • Dlynne

Does the name J.D. Fortune ring a bell? He won the “Rockstar INXS” competition. He’s NOT in the same league vocally as Adam but he was a pretty great second to Michael Hutchence. It was not a great move for him. It lasted a couple of years and then he faded into obscurity.

IMO, it’s impossible to fill the shoes of an icon like Freddie Mercury. You would never be able to measure up. There would be constant comparisons. I just can’t imagine it ending well. A couple of appearances just for fun would be ok but not more than that.

Adam needs to make his own music. He’s so much better than being a stand-in for someone else.

  • lavender1960

Because JD Fortune made a mistake that all reality contestants including Adam have to remember. Reality fame can be fleeting if you don’t work it right and hard and often and even then you may not get where you want to go. Even if you won.

Now it may have been Fortune thought he still had a gig with INXS when their tour ended, we don’t know if he really got the boot at the end of the tour or much later, in which case he was even more foolish but the story was JD was doing a solo album with the band’s blessing as they took a break. Even if he thought he had a gig to go back to he should have been hustling to get out his solo album – he had to know this gig wasn’t going to last and this was his shot to get that solo career established and if it went well it would have benefitted the band if they had worked next on a band album. Some of us are not so sure INXS had any intention of doing more than one album and one tour. And INXS is not Queen. Not even with Hutchence. So anything keeping their name in the media during their break would have been a benefit.

Part of the problem was his previous management – long story. That is another lesson Idols, your manager will make or break you so choose wisely babies.

Having said that the guy has talent and charisma, he still has IT – his new songs are pretty damn good [people are still waiting for the official release after he promised an album in September 2008]

But you gotta have a plan and you gotta hustle because this industry is tougher than evah. If you don’t want to play the game then don’t be surprised you are forgotten in the shuffle.

Even U2 has to promote promote promote their butts off.

That is why I say Adam get your solo gig going now while the irons are red hot and besides, people seem to be forgetting 19 Entertainment has a big say in what happens. Who knows what their evil plans are for Mr. Lambert.

  • TKat

    Lavender1960 very wise advice.

I think that Adam has a couple of advantages over other past Idol contestants except possibly Daughtry. He seems to understand how important it is to make careful decisions, work incredibly hard and listen to advice but make your own decisions. I think that some of the other contestants we’re mature or experienced enough to handle their fame (ex: Rubin) or didn’t really understand how to transition from AmIdol to commercian music (ex Taylor).

My hope is that 19E doesn’t hold Adam back with their “evil plans”.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Well JD’s 4 bag a day coke addiction might have contributed to the fact that they did not re-up his contract. Cause he was a contracted singer with INXS, not really a true member of the band. And if Adam DID sing with Queen I would hope it was a contracted deal for say 2 years max and a world tour.

Not that I see 19 and RCA going for that.

  • NOLA

While I think it would serve Adam best to join Queen; I think he will make his own decision wisely and I will respect that decision. Who are we to decide what is best for him?

  • lavender1960

We won’t mention that the amount of cocaine the band did in their heyday, by their own admissions in their official bio, amongst other typical rockstar behaviour, make JD look like a boy scout so many of the fans aren’t buying that story plus INXS sold a different story to their fans and were happy to let fans believe differently. INXS fans are arguing and have argued this to death taking different sides and there will never be a consensus until ALL the facts come out and that is not going to happen anytime soon if ever. Let’s not bore the AIers with that.

The moral of the story is like the movie Rock Star with Mark Wahlberg, fronting for a band you idolize looks better in the fantasy than the reality methinks.

Adam already has the high profile from American Idol, he has options, he doesn’t need to front any band [other than his own] and do covers. Be original, be yourself, Mr. Lambert.

Yes it is his decision, well along with his management team of course. We are just voicing our opinions on the subject matter. It is what we do.

  • cwg509

19 seems to really support Adam’s ambitions and will help make him an international star ($$). I actually do not think they have evil plans for Adam. Being from the UK, 19 can get a lot of things happening there for Adam if he wants it.

One thing that really stands out is how collaborative Adam is on stage. He worked amazingly well with everyone that he shared the stage with (Slash, Queen, Kiss, etc).

Queen is one of THE iconic bands, it would be like taking over for Mick Jagger, imo, big-time visibility and credibility in the music business. It would give him rock stage experience at a very high level of professionalism. Plus, they won’t be touring forever, although these old bands seem to get very lucrative touring gigs.

That said, I agree that a limited run of shows would generate the most interest, and would allow Adam to work on his own music. He will not have the same level of press/interest in six months, there will be another season of AI, and he has to get some of his own music out there (like Daughtry did, rather quickly).

He’ll be working harder than ever, that is for sure! Good luck to Adam! I’ll be rooting for him to make it big.

  • lavender1960

I was being somewhat facetious about ” evil plans” but anyone who has watched David Cook’s post idol career or better yet Kelly Clarkson realizes that 19 Entertainment and their record label colleagues are not always on the same page as their clients. Even clients that made them a lot of money and have proven themselves. But they are no different than the rest of the industry. It’s always a struggle between the artists and the suits. And in the Idol scenario, it’s the trade off for instant fame.

  • GeminiDolly

Adam is too freaking adorable. Love him.

I have a feeling Adam is going to get extra-special treatment from 19E. They have to see his star potential and I’m betting they won’t try to box him in like they have other Idols and runners-up (remember the struggles Bo had with his first album). Adam is very sophisticated. He’s not some kid off the farm. He’s also not naive and has followed the show. He certainly has to know what can happen and I suspect he’s going to do whatever he can to avoid those types of traps.

As far as Queen is concerned, I think it would be a smart move to take them up on their offer, if indeed there is an offer on the table, as long as it’s a short-term commitment. Maybe a two or three month tour. The exposure he’d get would be invaluable and as others have noted, he could work on his own music and maybe even debut some of it. Hell, I would go see that one!

I hesitate to make any predictions – I was certain he would win Idol, after all – but I really think he is going to be wildly successful no matter what he chooses to do. He’s not only one of the best Idol contestants ever, he appears to be one of the most savvy. I have been impressed with him from day one. Can’t wait to see him live!

  • hwc

    Here’s the reality:

    1) Adam does Idol tour (as a warm up act) and records an album, taking him through the end of this year. Then,

Option A: Put together a band and tour his album in the US, either as an opening act or playing small clubs. This is a tight money proposition with a good band and won’t allow any kind of fancy stage show.

Option B: Hit the road in South America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Europe for a series of stadium dates (with full on pyrotechnics) with Queen — a tour that gives him world-wide recognition and serious coin in his pocket, not to mention a much higher visibility platform for peddling his own record. Hell, have Queen play on it and incorporate some of the material in the Queen tour.

If Option B is really an option, Lambert and his management should very seriously consider it. The “fame” from being a runner up on TV talent show is fleeting indeed.

  • http://idolthoughts.today.com/ foxydonna

I like the way you think, hwc!

  • hwc

And here’s something else to consider. The whole Zodiac Show/Cirque du Soleil thing is very European. Just look at what they do for Olympics Opening Ceremonies in Europe compared to our Up With People velveeta cheese fests.

There is a possibility that 19E will simply turn Adam over to the European office and record a theatrical techno European album, bypassing the godawful bad Brittney/hip hop of the US top 40 market. It could be smart strategy, and a Queen deal would fit perfectly with that marketing plan.

  • dyg

He he, I am 50 and I have, for the first time in my life, joined a fan club or whatever it is, and I feel sooooo happy :-) I liked many artists in the past, Rolling Stones, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Traffic, among others, but I never had the drive to join a club, to read everything about them, or even to buy all their albums. Adam is really promoting changes in us.

I never said the guys in INXS were choir boys. Does not change the fact that JD is currently viewing the world from CokeACabana.

I never much cared for the whole JD Rockstar thing. He was so obviously an Elvis impersonator who could pull off a decent Hutch impersonation as well. Had they really wanted to “re-launch” INXS they should have gone with Dilana. Faux Hutch sucks and always will suck.

Wasn’t Dilana in Rockstar Supernova? I think JD was the same time as Mig Ayesa and Mig was touring with Queen’s We Will Rock You that was a sell out show. I don’t know if he’s going to do the 2009 show.

  • lavender1960

The better question is what is Dilana doing now. And yes she wasn’t competing that season. Faux Hutch made INXS more money than they would have with any other contestant. And some fans are beginning to see, that was what the “comeback” was all about in the end.

A certain segment of the audience loved Mig and the band thought he was a nice talented guy but lacked that dangerous rock star quality. Mig is a Magic Rainbows and Unicorn kind of guy. We were saying that before Time of Your Life, bwah. This was very apparent when they did original song writing. One of the band members slagged poor Mig the weekend before the finale on Aussie radio so I pretty much knew Mig wasn’t winning.

The reality is that Suzie McNeil, who ironically also did a stint in We Will Rock You after Rockstar did a better version of Bohemian Rhapsody on the show than Mig did in the finale and yet he performed it every night for 5 years. And Suzie killed in We Will Rock You, she got rave reviews and I saw her and she stood out from all the musical theatre veterans. Rock voice vs theatre rock voice. For those who don’t know, Suzie’s voice is similar to Pink, with perhaps more of an upper register, she actually was a backup singer for Pink for a short tour, after Rockstar, and they have written songs together for each other.

There was another musical theatre guy on the show, Ty Taylor, who I preferred over Mig. The guys loved his voice, he has loads of charisma but he couldn’t shake off the theatre training or the band felt he was playing at rockstar. Sound familiar?

  • ettacandy

I loved Rockstar. Supernova was STUPID by not choosing Dilana… but they thought she would overshadow them, or something. Dumb move, IMO. I seriously thought she would go on to some major success and… where is she now? This buisness is brutal, and fickle.

The Rockstar INXS season was the better show. And JD was my least favorite on the show, but he had the ‘tude – I will say that.

No one on that show (in any season) compares to Adam Lambert, at least not to me. His voice is amazing. He is distinctive. He is insanely marketable – but I agree that the most potential is overseas, for him.

  • lavender1960

I would argue that Adam was as good as the best in that pack of singers. And having seen enough musical theatre over my lifetime, he is as good as most of the singers in musical theatre, better than some and gasp yes there are few who are even better than Adam. Some of his compadres might consider AI as a new option if they meet the age cut off.

I even saw a minor musical production in Canada and I actually remember saying to someone wow these kids sing better than anyone on American Idol. I also remember the reason I started watching Rockstar INXS [I was not happy with the concept at first] was a friend said, it’s American Idol for adults. [She prefers only rock voices].

You have to be that good to even get work in musical theatre especially any major production and when you sing every night for 6 nights a week and matinees on weekend you do perfect that musical instrument.

The reality is Adam in essence brought theatre to American Idol in an otherwise generally dull season along with changes to the format that didn’t make the show overall better though thanks to Kris stepping up his game finally made it a real contestant by the end.

Which is ironic because Amercian Idol contestants have been flocking to the theatre. And shoot, AI now has one Tony/Grammy/Oscar winner – all Jennifer Hudson needs now is an Emmy and one Tony nominee.

Everyone should chill a bit. Queen aren’t looking for a full-time lead singer to catapult them back into worldwide prominence. Why on earth would they want that? They’re friggin’ living legends and Rock And Roll Hall Of Famers as it is, plus they’re 60 years old. Brian May has his Ph.D. now (the guy is literally a genius, with or without a guitar in his hand), and he has a full-time day job running a university. He and Roger Taylor do a handful of shows every year. They’ve also made it clear that they’ll never replace Freddy on a permanent basis. Even when they were working with Paul Rodgers or George Michael, who are established stars, they always bill themselves as “Queen And _____”

So relax. I’m sure Queen wouldn’t mind having someone as talented and flashy as Adam front them for a few shows. It would probably make them feel 30 years younger. But there’s no way it will amount to anything more than that. Just something cool for Adam to do between projects and Queen to do to get out of the house every so often and have some fun.

This. It would be a handfull or a dozen dates and Adam would get maximum exposure and respectability. He can record in any country, a lot of people will record in 3-4 cities/countries, just look at the credits on their CDs. It would be a win-win situation for Adam and for 19/RCA.
