Adam Lambert is in Australia on a promotional tour for his album Trespassing, and on Friday he stopped by the morning TV program, Sunrise to sing and chat a bit.

Watch a slowed up version of “Whataya Want From Me” and a sweet acoustic performance of “Trespassing” with an interview in between.

He says being an Idol judge would be really fun, but he said, “I don’t know anything! If you know anything, will you let me know?”

He also talked about performing with Queen and had advice for hopefuls thinking about auditioning for shows like Idol and X Factor.

If he’s not chosen, that’s just the way it is. Some people are going to like it and some won’t. There has never been a consensus about Adam whether people are fans or non fans, so I suspect there will be a range of emotions no matter what the decision is. Graciousness is not an emotion that some people tend to extend to Adam, especially when other Idols don’t receive the same opportunity that he did. I’m happy with whether he get’s it or not, the main thing for me is that I get to see his on tour either with his band or with Queen, hopefully both.

Like a few commenters posted downthread, it’s not who WE think would make good judges, it’s what and who TPTB at Fox/Idol or whoever making those decisions think… their decisions are I’m sure more business related and cutthroat – what the judges can do for Idol, bring to Idol to boost their revenue and bottom line – not necessarily our viewing pleasure, because I tend to think they may think of their current demo as a captive audience in many respects… they’ve done their job investing people in and out of season in this show, in the contestants new and old, so I’m sure they know what the threshold of viewer dropoff may be before they really start panicking, or seriously start to consider what the fans of the show think… they aren’t letting this cash cow go for a while, methinks… A small percentage of folks dissatisfied with their judges decisions on an internet blog is not going to matter – the ‘average’ or ‘casual’ fan may find the changes new/fresh/intriguing enough to make up for any that scoop up their little Idol ball and go home, lol… IMO, of course.

For the record, I think he’d be OK as a judge – no better or worse than anyone else in contention. They all have to prove themselves, so that makes them all even right now.

Vocal master is what he is.

I don’t know, I haven’t polled every fan or non fan who thinks that Adam would be a good judge.

I don’t really understand your question. Are you asking if everyone should like anyone that AI chooses to be a judge? If so, my answer would be “no”. There are some judges I would prefer to see get the job more than others, just like everyone else. What does that have to do with the original comment that was being addressed: that Adam shouldn’t be considered because it wouldn’t be fair to the other Idols? No one stated that everyone had to like Adam as a judge, just that AI wasn’t going to consider this preschool philosophy when making a business decision for what is best for their multi-million dollar operation. It has nothing to do with goodwill and graciousness.

I don’t see any other former contestants are more qualified than him, unless you are talking about CD sells. He may not sell as many copies as a few former contestants, but I don’t think CD sells is the only criterion of choosing a qualified judge.

I have my fingers, toes, my whole body crossed for him. Hope he’ll get the job.

    Great point! Totes agree!

Judging ability is too often tied to degree of financial success, IMO.  Truly effective judging is more teaching than it is performing.  The most successful singer in the world wouldn’t necessarily make a good judge.  Judging takes the ability to critique what somebody is doing and offer constructive advice with such clarity and consistency that it’s perfectly understandable and never confusing.  No magic wand is waved over everybody who happens to sell millions of CDs to give them that kind of ability.  People either have it or they don’t.  I believe Adam does.

Yes Sharon -Adam was a good mentor & that’s what I think TPTB should do -bring him back to mentor along with other Idols as well- who also have a lot to offer. It is not good PR to excessively promote one idol over others who are just as good or even more successful than Adam has been & if he were made a judge -the extra pimpage of his music [ like JLo had] would be an unfair advantage

I don’t get this whole notion of “fairness”??  These artists/former contestants aren’t in little league where everyone gets a trophy.  TPTB will (and should) hire whomever they think is the best person for the judge, regardless of how it makes former contestants or their fans feel.

The entertainment industry is a cut throat place.  If the opportunities are available for one that doesn’t mean they should also be available for others.  It’s supply and demand.

As for it being good PR to excessively promote one idol over others (which they aren’t doing) that’s how it works when said Idol brings attention and press to the show.

THIS! Word For Word!!! Exactly! and well said.

I want someone who is articulate and understands singing/performing but is also able to communicate (teaching moments). Adam for me is an Ah-mazing communicator. On one of the recent morning Aussie radio show things he was asked to critique a couple of u-tube videos of kids doing his songs. He had really great, spot on comments about them.

This is a joke, right? You get that Idol is a competition with winners and losers and that once the competition is over Idol doesn’t give a flying f……ig if you won or not, they care about buzz and success.

Jennifer Hudson is constantly mentioned, you might say excessively, over other Idols who did better than she did on Idol. But Idol promoters promote her because she makes the brand look good. Idol is only ever concerned with what makes Idol look good and what can make them money. This idea of “all Idol contestants must be treated equal” or “she doesn’t deserve that she didn’t win” only exists in certain corners of Idol fandom, it does exist in the world of Idol itself. If Adam is made a judge I promise you no one at Idol HQ will spare a single second wondering how the other former contestants feel about it.

It is not good PR to excessively promote one idol over others

I just saw this on the side with the other comments, and just want to say that once the alums idol season is over, they are no longer contestants or idols.  They all need promoting, and it is no longer about who won, finished second, fourth or whatever.  It’s about promoting them individually, and based on what type of return they can bring.

I don’t think that Adam will make a good judge, but that has nothing to do with what any other idol alums are doing, it’s all about Adam.  Just like whatever other alums have achieved, or how much attention they’ve gotten is about them, and not Adam or anyone else who has competed on the show.

  • lovetheusa1776

Lambert’s a superb communicator – the contestants would be lucky to have him there.

  • bridgette12

I think some times people forget, that once that the show ends, it’s every Idol for themselves. The real competition begins and alone with their management team and label, the Idol themselves has to do what’s necessary to stand out in a very crowded field of singers.

Humble, smart, articulate, intelligent, amazing voice (vocal master, thank you spinning), an interviewer’s dream, he can span musical genres, appeals to a huge range of fans from 5 to 85, stylish, considerate, polite and maybe the most important, very loving & loyal to his family, fans & friends.

Now what does any of this have to do with judging? Indirectly, everything IMO!

  • Josey9720

Here, you said a lot better than what I tried to say. And yes, I believe Adam does too.

  • yksask

A person can have all the ability in the world but I believe Idol wants someone who will draw fans. Adams latest CD numbers has proven many have forgotten or just do not care any more.

  • Larc

The big sellers aren’t always the best choices.  I’d rather have substance than window dressing.  A judge who can be consistently entertaining and keep people interested is far better than a famous superstar who may be worth a look, but isn’t very interesting for long when he/she’s not performing.

  • spinning

I know lots of people that don’t even know he has new music.  They are surprised when I tell them.  If radio won’t play it most people aren’t aware of it.  Most people aren’t ferocious fans or blog readers to keep up with everything.  Most people just hear new music on the radio or on tv.  Look at PP’s Home.  No one would have bought it if it hadn’t been heard.  I think people would be pleasantly surprised if they saw him again and heard his music.  He has such talent and it should be heard by more than just his stans.

  • HKfan

Beautiful performances, and he looked great, even with the lilac hair:)

  • lovetheusa1776

Wonder what color it’s eventually going to turn up as.

Yeah… I enjoy watching youtube video  interviews of Adam Lambert as much as watching  youtube video  singing performances of Adam Lambert…
