Here’s the latest media storm.   Adam Lambert strolling out of the Guys and Dolls night club holding hands with his rumored boyfriend, Drake Labry.

Let the media frenzy begin!

Perez Hilton, who’d been critical of Adam for not wearing his “I Am GAY!” t-shirt after the finale seems to finally be satisfied with this photographic evidence.   You know, since there’s never been pictures of Adam snuggling with other dudes on the internet til now. Ahem.

I just knew pics like this would turn up sooner than later, because that’s been the thing with Adam.   He’s just been living his life as he always has, as an openly gay man. No big deal. No major bulletin necessary.

Some extra stuff:

  • Elisabeth Hasselbeck takes Kara DioGuardi to task for “outing” Adam on The View yesterday. Gah, she’s annoying. Clay Aiken was also “outed” on The View–by Rosie O’Donnell, remember?. via Earsucker.
  • Radaronline had a spywitness inside the Guys and Dolls nightclub, if you care. Sigh. I miss the old Radar… via Radaronline.
  • More photos via Gossip Girls
  • Adam bought Drake a jacket on a shopping trip earlier in the day. via Entertainment Tonight.

  • honowoowoo

    Awww … lucky Drake!

  • honowoowoo

Hasselbeck … does she really think Kara “outed” Adam? She IS a blonde!

  • adamandeva

soo fierce. I can so see Adam as the party monster clubbing type. Maybe the delusional fangirls can stop proclaiming Adam is straight now. :P

  • LisaE

I think Adam’s too serious about his music to be a complete party monster. I also find it suspect that he downed glass after glass of vodka. He doesn’t even look drunk in any of the pictures. Rather, he just looks happy. (yay!)

I hope all the speculation dies down regarding this now and we can move on and focus on the MUSIC and Adam’s crazy crazy talent.

  • PippiHippie

As always, Adam is loving and affectionate. The same Adam we all fell in love with!!!

  • http://www.myspace.com/rjveritas MrRJ

The fangirls are sure they could “turn him” if they got near him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

I think Adam can do so much better heh ;) … he is cute… but I dont think his boyfriend can handle the media exposure…

  • St.Lucia

Wow. This speculation will never die down, will it? And when he does say he is gay(SHOCKER!) it will STILL be a big deal.

    WHY?

It wouldn’t have been if Adam had been straight, but alas being homosexual is always so much more fascinating than being heterosexual.

All the same, I could care less who he dates, male, female, both,

I’m just glad Adam is happy.

Now when is his album coming out?

  • kate09

I am a total Adam fantard…he could come out of that club holding Bin Laden’s hand & it wouldn’t phase my Adam love.

  • AC

wtf. I hate the view. I actually saw the clip where they were talking about Kara “outing” him and it’s a little ridiculous because Barbara was the one who kept probing and was interrupting the others to do so. It’s stupid that they blame Kara. and Kara didn’t even out him, he’s already out

  • elephant1212

    HOT!!!

  • karenw

Nice to see him out having fun …. oooo the beast …lol

.. and yeah he doesn’t look that drunk to me .. or perhaps he can just hold his drink.

  • adamlover

i love adam no matter what. i hope this drake guy likes him for him and not the notariety, thats the only thing that bothers me…because i just love adam.

i am just excited that we still get to read about him and see him every day. i just miss his singing!!!!!

  • twinkle

here’s some footage of them. adam is a gentleman, of course “after you”

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6me9WWDQsQ&feature=player_embedded

way to go adam, drake is totally hot!! and i LOVE that adam is just living life. if anyone still thinks he is playing games, they are just blind. all of his “avoiding the answer” were just formalities with 19 and RS… so he showed it rather than said it.

i dont think drake looked mad or annoyed, i think hes just not used to it yet. im sure adam tried to make sure he was ok with things before doing this, but you cant really prepare someone for a thousand flashbulbs going off in your face after leaving a dark club. only our magical creature from planet fierce can handle that unphased ;)

  • RubySlippers

Actually, David Cook going out with Kimberlee Caldwell last year was WAY more disturbing to me than this.

Need to qualify, this isn’t even disturbing, it makes me happy. :)

  • lola

I admire him all the more for being who he is. It may turn off some but it will also bring in some admiration and an inspiration who cannot be themselves. He is setting a trend. Now everybody can focus back on his talent. On the other note, he has good taste.

  • Ellie2

I am a total Adam fantardà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦he could come out of that club holding Bin Ladenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hand & it wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t phase my Adam love.

    So wrong. And so true.

  • SODF

Elisabeth Hasselback – the stupidity is one thing. It’s her relentless sanctimoniousness that gags me.

Drake is gorgeous. Good for you, Adam.

  • Tess

I think Adam can do so much better heh ;) à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ he is cuteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ but I dont think his boyfriend can handle the media exposureà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I think it might be a bit much to judge Drake on a couple of media pictures lets give him the benefit of the doubt.

    http://id4720labry.blogspot.com/

This is an old blogspot from Drake but it tells me a bit about this intelligent, good looking man. And its an educational blogspot so don’t think you are going to get any personal info. I looked at it because what he is blogging about is related to my own career.

  • Sunn

They look so sweet together, and Adam looks so happy. Yay!
I’m sure 19 was fully aware of this outing and approved it before it happened. Good for 19.

  • downeast

I hope this drake guy likes him for him and not the notariety, thats the only thing that bothers meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦because i just love adam.

If anything, Drake looks seriously NOT loving the notoriety. Hope he can handle it. Hate to see Adam pulled in two different directions, he’s a got a career to get on the road here!

Anyone else really really missing new Adam music every week?

  • rockvixen

Radaronline…is the Enquirer. If you believe what they print you believe anything. Adam is there with his boyfriend and he’s dancing with other guys…yeah right lol.

  • PattyH

Perez realized that he cannot control Adam (although he has tried mightily) so he had to readjust his tactics and now say Adam HAS à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“come outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ because of a hand-holding picture but the kissing picture was not a coming out nor proof enough??? Perez, Perez, Perez. Adam was never in, so he cannot come out. You have never controlled Adam and you never will! He is just living his life as usual, albeit now with cameras in his face. Adam bitch-slapped Clay with just a very few well-chosen words and shut him the freak up, and I wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be surprised to see him do the same to no-talent Perez some day soon. Perez is over there living Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s life and Adam is over there living Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s life, so who is living Perezà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s life? Oh yeah. He doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have one.

Screamingisgood, this is the best post ever! Now someone needs to bitch-slap Perez!

  • lola

Yes, I think 19E has the approval. He signed a contract. I believe they are testing the waters if America is ready to embrace a gay singer. Nothing new, it’s just like having an updated Boy George.

  • kate09

Thanks for the link to that blog Tess. Drake seems to have an appreciation for Baton Rouge, a city dear to my heart.

Maybe Adam finds something charming in boys from the South, b/c he sure gets along well with Kris & now Drake, a Louisiana boy.

  • baxter

WTF???? ADAM’S GAY???? When the hell did this happen???

  • suebrody

LOL, RubySlippers. So true. I just hope we still get Adam on the Rolling Stone cover. Total hotness. Drake is cuteness. I hope this gets Adam more p.r. for the tour, his album, his solo tour (The Adam Lambert Experience), etc. He’ll be interviewing musicians like Katy Perry and Lady GaGa on Extra! Very stoked.

For anyone who cares about Adam partying or not partying or whatever, Adam addressed this with Slezak during his Idolatry interview:

Gene “Adam is not a rock singer” Simmons was concerned that Adam might fall because of his boots. Adam explained that these were “his” boots and said that his boots had seen much more rowdy days (can’t find exact quotes) in clubs, with alcohol (as he motioned to drinks in the bar), etc. Zodiac, anyone?

    Lucky Drake.

  • OutlandoGirl

The Radar link didn’t work for me. Anyone??

I want Adam to be happy. Just like I would with anyone else I respect and admire. Don’t we ALL deserve that?

  • Layla

    Amen sista!

Drake is hot and he and Adam look good together. I have known gay guys since my first year at university and have even had some really good make out sessions with a few. I can understand the younger (older? hee.) female fans who find gay men hot and sexy-especially Adam.

Those wenches on The View give women a bad name. Was so disappointed when Whoopi joined that cackling crew.

  • Chipmunk

BRADAM was way hotter than DRADAM! Just saying…………….. :smoke_tb:

  • Ellie2

If anything, Drake looks seriously NOT loving the notoriety. Hope he can handle it.

I think it’s just a lot for someone to get used to, especially someone who has never sought out a career in the entertainment industry. I suspect most of us would look the same way. I don’t think it’s necessarily a reflection on the strength of their relationship. I’m sure Drake knew what he was getting into as far as Adam’s level of fame goes. And when Adam made it into the final Drake was as excited as anyone, jumping up and down and screaming and hugging Adam’s mom.

  • lucy

Tess, thanks for the link to the Drake blogspot (poor Drake, with all this privacy invasion — but, still, thanks). What a thoughtful, interesting guy. (Doesn’t hurt that I agree with just about every word he writes there, of course.)

I think he’s just tense in these pictures. He looked quite happy and relaxed in some of the audience shots during AI.

  • clearone

ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just like having an updated Boy George.

Please, God no. Just no. Boy George is in jail as I recall.

I’m not a YouTube devotee for nothing….Drake in Europe.

I’m sure that Drake and his friends never thought they would be fodder for a blog site….oh well, you post on a public media and it becomes public property.
From this link you can see several other posts from the trip. Enjoy

  • lola

“Please, God no. Just no. Boy George is in jail as I recall.”

Really!!!! Then my bad….but what I meant is that he was the first “all out” gay who hit the music scene with success. Am I right? Maybe I’m not really updated. Anyway, just love the way Adam is handling the media.

  • kate09

Hmmm…I think Drake is better looking than Brad. Brad is a bit of a Diva himself…maybe Drake is more laid back & I think in the long run, that suits Adam better.

I hope Adam finds happiness & of course allows me to be his surrogate. He is too talented & beautiful not to reproduce.

  • borntobeadam

    HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Adamà ¯ ¼Ã…’you are sooooo brave and sooooo sweetà ¯ ¼

    LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    adam looks so happy.

  • RubySlippers

Anyone else really really missing new Adam music every week?

Well going with the theme of partying…

This a dance remix of Mad World, and there are other versions of Adam’s songs by this youtuber.

  • twinkle

yeah, chipmunk… im still kind of partial to brad (cheeks). he is so flippin hilarious. it’s a new day in celebrity gossip… instead of wishing brad was back with jen, we can start wishing adam was back with brad. :)

drake is way hot though. and he has his “blue steel” face down pat!

i dont think adam will risk his career and current popularity by going too far down the party-kid route. i think he will go out and have fun and we might get some tipsy rambling from him, but i think he is smart enough to know that stumbling out of clubs a la brit and lindsey is not going to be good for buying that house he wants!

  • wjmtv

Tess, thanks for the link to Drake’s blog. He has some interesting comments on life in suburbia. (And some very interesting syntax!)

Except that George is a mothereffing trainwreck. :wink_wp:

  • revcat

Just watched the video of Adam and Drake entering the club (Guys and Dolls). I love Adam’s giggle. He puts on that fierce face when performing but he’s really just a fun loving guy. That’s just one of the things I love. Also, Drake may just be a bit shy?

I’m not sure 19 approved (as in arranged) this outing (no pun intended!). Wouldn’t they have waited until after the Rolling Stone issue featuring Adam comes out? Anyway, its ridiculous that a grown man (its not like he’s a minor like Allison) needs permission on who to be seen with.

Let’s say 19 didn’t know in advance, I seriously doubt they would drop Adam for just being Adam IMHO.

  • ross

edit: don’t tell posters what to do

  • popo830

    http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2009…t-hollywood-bar

The article on radaron has been taken down! Why?

  • cay

I wonder if 19 knew about this and if he still gets the RS cover? I could see Adam being sick of the gay blogger hate and just doing it. I hope he got the RS cover for his music. Rolling Stone has been such fans during the show, and the latest teaser article talks about him being the first real rocker on Idol. They seem to admire his talent and rare vocal skills.

I still think he’ll always be hurt by his sexuality. Losing Idol. And I’ve read all over how nobody has started a career being so openly out and made it. There are a lot of people who are fine with the “don’t ask, don’t tell” or “I know you’re gay but I don’t want to see it”. I don’t have a lot of confidence in America; especially after all I’ve read and seen throughout the whole Idol process.

Adam is lucky in that he can do other things than being a recording artist. He is smart to take the guest correspondence job for Extra that was announced yesterday, and he can still do Broadway. I think he is becoming a true “celebrity”, but I doubt that will transfer into a legitimate recording artist. We’ll see. My money is still on Allison for the breakout star this year.

  • twinkle

maybe because the radar story wasnt true.

i think if he had been in there canoodling with a bunch of guys and downing lots of vodka, im sure we would have some camera pix and video floating to prove it.

was that Extra gig real? i thought it was a joke in the middle of the segment…

  • TKat

I think Boy George is out of jail — but Adam isn’t much like BG or Bowie, for that matter. Adam didn’t need to create a fake identity — like Boy George, Ziggy Stardust or Nick/Norman.

I cut Bowie a break because it was different to be gay in 1972 vs. 2009 BUT I hope Adam continues to be so matter-of-fact about it. “I am who I am.” I really respect that.

I think Adam can do so much better heh ;) à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ he is cuteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ but I dont think his boyfriend can handle the media exposureà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

From what I can tell, Adam is doing just fine. I guess we’ll find out what Drake can handle — now that they are out of the Idol bubble. But Drake and Adam have been together for several months and I can’t imagine it’s been easy.

  • lucy

but I doubt that will transfer into a legitimate recording artist.

Well, I sure hope you’re not right.

If you are, this is definitely one for the “only in America” file, where a person can’t become a “legitimate…artist” because they’re gay. This will come as a big surprise to, oh, Leonardo da Vinci, for example. I’d love to see what the whole art canon would look like if all contributions from gay people were removed. lol.

But if this does threaten, all he has to do is become an expat, I think. Even moving to Canada would most likely solve the whole “problem,” I’ll bet.

  • elw

OK, I may sound like a ‘mom’ but… I hope Drake is good enough for Adam and I hope Drake is good to Adam…(he doesn’t look very friendly). Adam, you seem so amazing and kind, make sure people treat you well.

  • Mary102

LOL – regarding David Cook and Kim Caldwell last year. Yeah, I guess the AI publicity insanity is not just reserved for Mr. Lambert, because I remember the hot button issue this time last year was ALMOST as intense (tvguide and other sites kept updating about “are they dating?”) And all the fangirls went crazy over the news.

I love the fact that Adam is just true to himself. Completely proud, because it’s really no big deal.

  • Jolene

    They make an attractive couple.

This whole “is he or isn’t he” crap is so effin’ ridiculous, that I was sick of it before it even started. Seriously, media, when there’s no story there, there’s no story there.

  • TXArchitect

I understand Drake graduated from LSU with an architecture degree in interior design. If that is the case, he got through several years of the most grueling, time- and mind-consuming degree programs possible and must have a very analytical intellect as well as much self-motivation and dedication. This is a very difficult major, and his website indicates that he took the program quite seriously.

Since Adam seems to be similarly analytical as well as dedicated to his own career, I imagine that these two might have a good chance at a mutually-supportive relationship. Both are obviously creative and driven. The fact that they can each express themselves in different fields of endeavor should ease the process.

I have noticed that Adam, in recent video clips, seems to have developed the southern tendency to elongate single syllable words into two-syllable words (“hair” becomes “haaa – iiiir”) – listen for it…. Drake’s southern charm is obviously affecting Adam and creeping into his own speech pattern!

I hope they get a chance to figure out if they do, indeed, have something together. I like that Adam has got him a “smart one.”

  • Ellie2

but I doubt that will transfer into a legitimate recording artist.

Sorry, but I don’t buy that argument for a second. Times change. Society evolves. And I think a lot more people are open-minded and accepting than you think. Adam’s going to be singing and entertaining and he does it so well I don’t think anything else will matter much in the end. People respond to honesty and to human beings who are comfortable in their own skin. Adam’s going to be just fine.

  • Sunn

Wow! Adam’s career is over before he’s even made his first record because he went clubbing with his boyfriend?! Well I guess we can all pack up and go back to our lives now.

  • Layla

yes I was sad he didn’t take the crown after such great performances all season, but now I am really truly glad he didn’t or he wouldn’t be able to live his life like this or the media and homophobes would make it hell for him.

I can just imagine how many people would be freakin out at the American Idol leaving a club with his boyfriend.

The gods work in mysterious ways.

  • sallyas1

I’m not able to watch the View video, but I have to agree with Elizabeth on this one. Depending on where she is coming from of course. Outing Adam is not going to happen – he did that himself many years ago. However I do believe it was not Kara’s place to say anything. She’s been in the media world long enough to know how to deflect questions or just not answer. If Elizabeth was commenting on Kara’s answering the question, then I’m with Elizabeth. If Elizabeth thinks Kara actually outed Adam then Elizabeth is just being dumb (the usual for her) and I don’t agree with either person.

Regarding Adam’s relationship with Drake. I’m sure the reality of the situation now (with paparazzi everywhere) is quite a bit more daunting than they could even realize. Drake does seem a bit “gun-shy” with the pics while Adam is smiling at the camera often. But I think the media blitz on Adam’s personal life right now is simply media people trying to get the scoop. Hopefully once the RS cover is out, everything will calm down.

As for the radaronline article, about Adam dancing with other guys in the club. Yeah, I would believe that if there were photos of it. Just some insider talking noise.

As for loving Adam even if he came out holding hands with Bin Laden – nope. Sorry. That would be the downfall. But happily, that is not likely to happen.

What is this about Adam on Extra interviewing some musicians? Will this air on Extra on tv or just their website? When?

Any news yet on his record deal. Rumour is RCA, but I’m wondering if that is confirmed. Who is he working with? Will he have a song on Slash’s new cd?

  • greenT

I love this guy, he can rule the world.

I’ve got to wonder as well…..why would some people bother buying Rolling Stone for the big story when they can get it for free all over the tabloid press? I think something like this might fly in the face of any agreements for an exclusive where RS is concerned.

Drake was in several videos here! he and friends in Europe in 2007! it looks like they were having fun and he was cute and funny! :)
it makes me smile thinking Drake was with Adam’s family on the show for several weeks! and when they announced Adam was in the finals, the hug between Adam’s mom and Drake!
    sweet!
these are like the most awesome people in the world!

oh carroll… there’s a whole contingent of us on here. trust me… it’s possible. deluding myself into thinking i have a chance with a gay celebrity isnt really that much different than deluding myself into thinking i have a chance with any celebrity. and just him being gay is just not a turn-off. there is wayyy to much else about him that i find sexy. but YMMV.

I think the Kimberly Caldwell thing was a much bigger deal. Many fans felt like they were duped by Cook because he said he was single on the show and than rumors surfaced that he had been dating Kimberly before the finale. Adam hasn’t duped anyone so I think people can feel pretty good about their fandom towards him. I don’t see anyone pissed off about Drake.

Ok, my mom thing is kicking in as well. I like that Drake is educated and has a career outside of the entertainment business. I think this bodes well for a healthy relationship. Also, I understand Adam’s mom is an interior decorator? Is that correct? I think Drake would fit in nicely with the Lambert family.

But having said that, I hope Adam doesn’t talk about Drake in RS because it’s too new of a relationship. Cook talked about Kimberly in his RS interview, and now they aren’t together. I wonder if he regrets that when he flips through is scrapbook?

  • Glenda

I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand how a woman can be in love with a gay man. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make any sense to me. But, hey, I lived in the fifties.

’cause it just means I love him but it’s my business after all and has nothing to do with his preference.
’cause I’m not his preference, but he’s definitely mine!!
’cause you don’t have to love someone on condition that he is able to love back !
most importantly, ’cause some gay men are totally hot, sexy, stylish, nice, awesome, talented and all…

I there a woman in love with Adam? I know there are fangirls crushing on him but that’s different. Fantasies are not dictated upon by reality’s terms. Crushing on Adam is very much like crushing on Brad pitt or James McCavoy. With Adam you fantasizes turning him. With Brad or James you fantasize about them dropping their gorgeous movie star wives for you.
Also, you can love a gay man without being in love with him. I certainly have a gay man in my life that I love more than any other in the world. And that statement includes my boyfriend. I’m just not in love with him.

First, what woman are you speaking of?

Second, my mother was married to (and loved deeply, also in the 50′s) my gay father who only came out 30 years into the marriage. Even after they finally divorced she continued to live next door to him and cared for him while he died of AIDS.

Apparently the radar article was taken down. It must not be true and someone may have threatened legal action or something. (perhaps, I don’t know but it’s interesting) I’m glad people are looking out for Adam if this is true. I didn’t buy the “knocking back shots of vodka”. Not because I don’t think he parties, but because he is smart and he knew paps were out there. In People “sightings” last week, they mentioned seeing Adam partying at a cabana at a NY rooftop pool area and they said he was drinking water (some fancy kind).

Edited. Hmm. I can click on it from here. On IDF they are talking about it being taken down. It doesn’t matter – sounds like he had a good time. The people “sightings” was just comments about observations. I didn’t see any pictures.

I think the Kimberly Caldwell thing was a much bigger deal. Many fans felt like they were duped by Cook because he said he was single on the show and than rumors surfaced that he had been dating Kimberly before the finale.

That whole thing was kinda stupid, though i did laugh my head off at the meltdowns sI could never get all the outrage at the mere fact that Cook was dating Caldwell. I mean personally i think she’s a skanky bitch who is going through the AI alum at a steady pace, BUT still……it was sorta wierd the way people went on about him dating her, like he was being deceptive or something..Anyways…..just off topic, but I found it hilariously erm..scary?LOL

Haha….When my son came home from college a month ago, my hubby was telling him “Your mom is obsessed with an AI contestant again, but I don’t have to worry because he’s gay.”
So I said, “WAIT, you mean you actually thought I had a chance with David Cook?!!”
    Aw honey, that’s sweet.

I know many teenage girls who are obsessed with a “fictional vampire”, the fact that its never gonna happen times infinity doesn’t stop the hormonal dreams.

If the RS article focuses just on the gay aspect of Adam’s life, then I can’t imagine myself buying it either. It’s like a big ole “duh” to me.

Though if the photos are as fantastic as the 19 CAA photo of Adam with the dark suit and black striped shirt then I would definitely considering purchasing no matter what the article says (yes I’m staring at it right now on my 2nd computer monitor).

I’m hoping the article will talk more about music news. Is it is official – is he signed with RCA. Who is he working with – I know a few artists expressed interest I would hope something definite as been set up by then. Band news – he will have to have a band whether they are just backup musicians or a band setup (a la Daughtry). Tours post Idol. Etc, etc, etc. I’m bored with the yammering about Adam’s personal life, give me news about the music already!

  • melvel

    just watched the View clip:

    - they totally threw kara under the bus. the clip they decided to show conveniently cut out Barbara badgering Kara for an answer. thus they are creating the impression Kara just volunteered this information

    - are they complete idiots? (rhetorical question). there is a lot of backstage/behind the scenes stuff that we don’t see. such as Drake probably visiting Adam, and Adam openly discussing his life. of course Kara would have seen/heard things regarding Adam and the other contestantss personal lives. its so silly to assume that because us the viewers didn’t see it on TV, then Adam was IN the closet. WTF.

-i cant believe im defending Kara (did hell just freeze over?)

  • TKat

I just can’t understand why so many people think that anyone who is gay can’t be a successful recording artist. And I hope that Adam finally shatters this pink ceiling.

Successful Gay American pop music artists are nothing new: Cole Porter, George Gershwin, John Cage, Aaron Copeland, Billy Strayhorn, Johnny Mathis and so on.

But for some reason Gay American Rock Stars don’t exist. British Gay rock stars are some of the top selling recording artists of all time — even in the US Market: Bowie, Freddy Mercury, George Michael, for example. (Am I missing the huge American Rock star who is gay?)

And many hugely successful American stars have been in an androgenous space: Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson etc. But we don’t have an openly gay US Rock Star.

I really don’t think the issue has been the willingness of American’s to buy music from a gay artist, I believe that the recording industry hasn’t been willing to go there. They viewed it as a market niche that appealed to a very small audience. Sony even started a LGB Recording Label in 2006.

Note: Apparently the recording industry has less of an issue with Lesbian Amercian recording artists since there are quite a few.

  • Tess

Just watched the clip from the view…and just geesh!

Another pet peeve….and I have quite a few: Talk show hosts that don’t do their research. These gals make a whole bunch of money, and they probably have a whole bunch of interns running around that do research, and they still talk jibberish on the program. I get so mad that I want to throw my damn TV/computer screen out the window. And then, to top if off, the girls from the View talk over and around each other like they are a bunch of teenagers vying for attention. And what’s sad for me is that the lazy viewers out in tv viewing land don’t take the time to research what they are talking about to see if there is any truth in the dribble they are spilling.

I am sure when Adam and Kara see each other again they are going to have a good laugh about this…but in the meantime there are going to be stupid idiots out there who villify Kara for speaking the truth.

I’m beginning to think that when Adam said “keep speculating, all of your questions will be answered soon”, he was not referrring to the Rolling Stone article. He might simply have meant that he was going to live his life as he always has, and photos/”news” about him and Drake would naturally come out in the post-Idol media storm. Adam might mention being gay in the RS article, but it will could be “old news” by the time the article hits the newsstands.

Re: the radaronline article, Adam is a smart guy who has lived in LA for 8 years. I live in LA, too, and I’ve seen what happens — when you’re a celebrity like he is, the paps and the tabloids follow you around everywhere. So, I doubt that Adam will allow himself to be seen/photographed in a drunken frenzy. He’s a young guy who likes to party (who doesn’t?), but he seems too smart and too media-savvy for that (and his contract with 19E also might have a “morals” clause which would deter him as well).

personally, i think in today’s “i kissed a girl / will & grace” world, we’ve passed the point of caring about one’s sexuality. but i understand the concern that some folks might not be as open minded. however, for those thinking this will this affect his following (with families, young girls, straight men etc)…. i would say no, not at all. i think that (most) people can separate their personal opinions regarding homosexuality and just focus on the music/entertainment.

i look forward to the day that this is not even a point of discussion….where someone being gay is as insignificant as someone with blond hair.

Been looking at some of the fan sites and there is a bit of jealously cropping up, like with Cook and Cadwell. Also some slight confusion about what to feel about theirr crush that manifests itself in less obvious forms of homophobia (comments like, I wish he were with someone more masculine, etc.)
Adam was always clearly gay, but also very masculine sexy (yes, even with the makeup) Seems to me, fangirls found the kissing photos sexy, thus non threatening to thier crushing, whereas this is more sweet and thus, more confusing. And Drake is on the femenine side, so I think this might throw some fans for a (small) loop, then they will get over it.

  • TKat

According to Adam’s publicist he did not attend the MTV Movie Awards because he had a scheduling conflict. (If he had been there, he was scheduled to give out an award. And I don’t think it was an off-camera technical award. So sorry that I didn’t get to see Adam on stage with Robert Pattinson.)

Also, there are some bogus reports that he was at a MTV Movie Award afterparty on IDF. Also reports that he was at the awards. They seem to be based on Bogus Adam twitters.

Guy & Doll is new but it was put together for an A-List West Hollywood crowd by Michael Sutton and Guy Starkman. Sutton is famous for having some of the best parties in West LA and created A-List club-longes (the Lodge, Goa and Charcoal). Guy Starkman is the owner of Jerry’s Famous Deli and about as well connected in LA as you can be. My guess is that this was a carefully staged PR move, that 19 knew all about it, and that Adam was loving every minute of it.

No one in LA can keep a secret so we’ll get the whole story in the next couple of days.

PJ thanks! I hadn’t thought of Michael Stipe.

But I think that is different because Michael didn’t “come out” until ten years after REM had their first big hit — even though many fans “knew”. Even Bowie came out after he had one hit, “Space Oddity”. Freddy Mercury had the guts to name the band Queen, and was never in a “closet”. But I still can’t think of any American rock star who was openly gay before they released a major album.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve got to wonder as wellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..why would some people bother buying Rolling Stone for the big story when they can get it for free all over the tabloid press? I think something like this might fly in the face of any agreements for an exclusive where RS is concerned.

I’m assuming there is some more interesting information in there than just, Hey, I’m Gay. So, I’m guessing people will still buy it. And, when you promise an exclusive, you promise not to speak on the subject with another media outlet. You don’t promise to become a hermit and stop living your life.

Second, my mother was married to (and loved deeply, also in the 50à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s) my gay father who only came out 30 years into the marriage. Even after they finally divorced she continued to live next door to him and cared for him while he died of AIDS.

I loved the Caldwell meltdown – it provided many moments of hilarity for me. It’s odd to me to see fans have feelings one way or the other about someone’s dating life. I just can’t even begin to care who strangers are dating, let alone get upset about it.

Clearone…you are absolutely right. The assumption has been made that most people “knew” or “felt” that Adam is gay. But, the truth is that there are probably some people that just classified Adam as a little OTT and theatrical. And many people never “researched” Adam on the internet where it was made pretty clear, by Adam, what his lifestyle was.

Also, there are a lot of people who just wouldn’t think to focus any of their attention on anything about Adam except for his wonderful voice and his great talent. And I applaud them for that since that is what AI should really be all about.

But the look on Britney’s face was that of a caged animal getting poked and prodded. I’ve felt sorry for Britney ever since.

  • TKat

IMO Adam intergrates sexuality into his performances. It’s not new, sex is what most of the Delta Blues songs were about, and integral to artists like Little Richard, James Brown, Elvis and Mick Jagger. It’s just interesting to me to see this “old school” R&B tradition fused with West LA style and delivered by since a fine looking man who know how to dress.

Bowie was good looking but androgenous and “cool” (distant and aloof) — he main persona come from another planet and was even human. Adam is flat how sexy and hot.

I don’t know if Adam is going to be a great recording artist, I hope so, but I am certain that he will at least be great in concert. And he is not just another pre-packaged studio creation of a cute boy with digitally enhanced vocals.

    It perplexes me why people keep saying thisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so stereotypical. It wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t obvious to everyone.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ”

ONLY because of the leaked photos and things he said to the media. Nothing about his appearance or stage presence speaks gay or straight to me.

He changed lyrics to the songs he sang and to make them sexually neutral. In the final he sang the last verse to “A change is Gonna Come” as My Change IS Gonna Come. He spoke of loving “outfits” and having tons of make up in his idol interviews. Oh and his of ROF!!! What more evidence do we need before we’re allowed to think he’s gay?

  • terfra

Yes to opening new doors. I hope he kicks them in.

The Radaronline article that MJ linked is still there. I just read it.

Those “open doors” may kick him in.
I like Adam as a person, but this is a turnoff.
The article just proves the point that Adam rightfully did not win idol. Really.
And not just the gay lifestyle, but the lifestyle of promiscuity and lack of morality is just not cool, besides being on a drinking binge. Nice role model!
Fine, he can sing, and its his life to live how he chooses. Not the american idol.

  • Tess

Considering Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s driving in that clip, I doubt that the story about him knocking back the vodka is true.

Yeh, I’m bad…I assumed that he was using a limo and mentioned it earlier on. Unless I’ve lost “my touch” it looked like Adam was pretty damn sober to me.

What I find really interesting news is OMG has 4 pictures of Ryan out on a date with a woman the same day pictures are run of Adam and Drake on a date. Thing is, Adam seems much more connected to Drake than Ryan is w/the piece of fluff walking behind him.
Also, not to get bashed, two guys holding hands or being romantic still makes me uncomfortable. But then any open displays make me uncomfortable. Adam is easing me into the transition though. He’s just so …..I don’t know what, but he is!

  • cay

Did any of these artists begin their career having to be so open about their private lives? I think most people already have at least one album out, or have a hit out. That’s what makes me skeptical.

I really hope 19 knew about it. Although I like the idea of rebel Adam and I was not liking all the coy stuff and waiting for the RS cover. I really hope RS has some interesting stuff in it. Adam is fascinating and there is lots of things about him and his life I’d be interested in learning. I love his opinions and appreciate his honesty. I already knew he was gay so I was planning on buying RS for many other reasons.

  • Heart

They are definitely at hot looking couple! Poor Drake isn’t used to those lightbulbs which is why he looks uncomfortable!

I’m so happy for Adam that he’s finally able to live his life outside the AI bubble and show his love for Drake!

“When people saw Adam walk in all heads turned in his direction,” a source tells Star. “And it was obvious Adam was so proud to be there with Drake. So proud. As people were coming over to meet the singer Adam made a point to turn to Drake and introduce him to the crowd as his boyfriend.”

For the next 30 minutes, the Idol runner-up and Drake made the rounds holding hands, says the source, stopping occasionally to whisper in one another’s ear or share a kiss.

That article is a lie. Watch the video I linked to in an earlier post from TMZ of him leaving the club. He’s driving and definitely sober. As for the promiscuity.. As far as I know he’s had one long term relationship and that Drake is his second. I wouldn’t call that promiscuous.

I too find it incredibly ridiculous that Perez goes “Yep, alright he’s gay” after a picture of them holding hands after his rant on Adam being elusive about him kissing guys… Adam is who he is and I don’t think that he has hidden who he was? He has dropped plenty of hints. I think it was during hollywood week where my siblings and I came to the consensus that he was possibly gay. They are not Adam fans btw and therefore they don’t follow the news as ardently as I do but by the end of the season, they are pretty positive that he is.

I still find that Adam living his life as he choose to (going out and holding hands with his boyfriend) is enough evidence to shut the public. Why is it MANDATORY for gays to come out and say the words “I’m Gay”? So many criticize him for doing so, hello! pay attention. – not directed to any poster in particular -

  • Tess

The Radaronline article that MJ linked is still there. I just read it.

Vodka is a clear liquid. So is water. Just sayin.’

  • jpfan

I agree. Lots of people who watched Idol didn’t know Adam was gay. He comes across as masculine and flamboyent. Many people associate gay with “feminine” and pick it up in someone like Sanjaya or Danny from S7 for instance. However, his bf looks more like the gay stereotype most people have.

Pictures of them holding hand will be the first time some people will realize Adam is gay. Good for him. I figured he’d just live his live without making some huge statement. But he probably will in RS. Then the whole thing will be a dead issue. Hooray.

I thought rock stars were allowed to drink vodka and party.

The Dancing to iPods on the Swiss Alps is funny and Drake has a cute body!

Reporting from the Swiss Alps shows cute, giggly Drake. His girlfriends are cute too!

I hope Drake can handle all the press for Adam’s sake!

Bowie is/was bisexual. Interesting quote from his Wikipedia entry

Bowie expressed a different view in a 2002 interview with Blender; where he was posed with this question: “You once said that saying you were bisexual was ‘the biggest mistake I ever made’. Do you still believe that?” His response:

Interesting. [Long pause] I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think it was a mistake in Europe, but it was a lot tougher in America. I had no problem with people knowing I was bisexual. But I had no inclination to hold any banners or be a representative of any group of people. I knew what I wanted to be, which was a songwriter and a performer, and I felt that [bisexuality] became my headline over here for so long. America is a very puritanical place, and I think it stood in the way of so much I wanted to do.

I would like to believe that we’ve gotten past this thought process and could make it all about the music. But sadly, I fear there are still too many narrow-minded folks in this country.

Bowie expressed a different view in a 2002 interview

In 2002 I bet that the idea of the US having a black President was not even in the realm of possibilities. I think that the US if forging ahead and overcoming more and more prejudices as time goes on. It still seems like yesterday when the Berlin wall came down and Germany was reunited. Now there are millions of kids graduating from High School this year that never knew an east and west Germany.

Change comes slowly, but once the floodgates open the water pours through faster and faster until all of the old stuff is just history. I just think that it is time for another change…and Adam (even though he probably never wanted to be anything other than a singer and an entertainer) is going to be the first of many to make great strides for openly gay “new” performers in the industry.

  • Cindij

the article said that they were having Grey Goose Coctails not downing shots

  • LisaE

Let’s be honest. Adam had to do something about the speculation if he wanted to live his life at all. People (read “the media”) were so insidiously curious, they would have camped out anywhere to get a picture of him with a guy. It was completely ridiculous. He couldn’t avoid it. I have a feeling that he understands all the potential ramifications but was really put in a tough spot. He did this as openly and honestly as possible without having to wear a t-shirt or go on a magazine cover to clue the clueless in.

I feel like once this furor dies down, people will be able to focus on the music again, because this is a non-issue.

btw, here’s a completely different account of what happened inside and it sounds so much more like Adam:

What more evidence do we need before weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re allowed to think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay?

When I saw Adam try out it simply flitted throug my mind “cool, he’s gay”. Didn ¨’t really think about the impact it might make until he started sticking around, round after round.

Gay men run the spectrum from nelly bottom types to men whop are even more masculine that Adam…way more.

Yeps…I was one of those fag hags…I danced for a while and guess what…every single guy dancer was gay. And yes..another stereotype is the great great bitchiness. Never had so much fun.

I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand how a woman can be in love with a gay man. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t make any sense to me. But, hey, I lived in the fifties.

I may be an oddity, but I don’t think about someone’s sexuality when they are performing. I think only of how I respond to them. I responded to Adam in a visceral way, as did many people of both sexes from what I’m reading. Forget “out & proud”, To me he is “HOT and proud”. Doesn’t get much better than that imo. That said, the only emotion I remember feeling when I found out some of the celebrities I’ve had celebrity “crushes” on, both male & female, when I learned they weren’t hetero, it was no big deal. Only person who’s sex life I’ve had an issue w/was and is Michael Jackson.

  • Tess

    A. SOURCE must make it to every celebrity club, restaurant, event imaginable. They must do a hell of a lot of partying. And unless someone is clairvoyant or the waiter how would they know the vodka was Grey Goose. These inside the event stories are always just so full of meaningless shit.

Being ‘in love’ with someone doesn’t have anything to do with who they are sexually attracted to…female/gay male relationships (friendships), while obviously not sexual, can be highly rewarding. Sometimes when there is no question about the physical aspect of a relationship, everything else falls into place more easily. If that makes any sense.

I love Adam in a fangirl way but I would never say I was in love with anyone I hadn’t even met in person, or spoken to, etc. You can’t fall in love via YouTube…maybe in lust, but not love :)

The problem is that there aren’t any Gay American Rock Stars. There are tons of indie gay artists that can’t get even far enough to fail.

I never noticed it before becoming an Adam fan, but I can’t find one American who was openly gay and then became a major popular recording star since the mid-1950′s. A few people have “come out” after they were established stars — Michael Stipes (REM), Johnny Mathias, Clay Aiken, Liberace come to mind. Even the most androgenous American rock star, Prince, says he’s straight and has never been connected to a man.

I think the problem is that the record labels won’t sign anyone who is openly gay and even avoids anyone who appears to be “too gay”, it’s a risky investment. Even the niche labels that focus on the gay music market, don’t sign gay acts — mostly they promote music that appeals to the gay market.

Please all, let me know who I missed.

Exactly .. and all of the talk from “sources” about people kissing necks and getting up close and personal in clubs …. the music’s usually that loud that you have to stick your face right up to someone’s ear or neck or face in order to have any sort of conversation with them. To the outsider it may look like they’re nibbling necks when in reality all they’re doing is saying “pardon, I can’t hear you for the music” …lol

There’s no such thing as the “gay lifestyle” just like there’s no such thing as the Catholic lifestyle or the Irish lifestyle.

I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea of promiscuity or lack of morality from these pictures. Going out to a club with your boyfriend is done all the time where I live.

I’ll agree that if the American Idol is supposed to be a completely celibate teetotaler then Adam doesn’t fit the bill but if that’s the standard then probably everyone who has ever been on the show would have to be disqualified. Perhaps Monks and Nuns can audition next year?

Plus, Rob Halford of Judas Priest-a popular metal band–is gay and out.

Bob Mould of Husker Du–also out. He’s not a big rockstar, but he’s certainly not a failure either.

And of course, Morrissey of the Smiths. Not a huge rockstar in the US, but he’s got a fierce cult following.

Adam has great taste — Drake very handsome (and photogenic as well). I hope they make it through all the current hoopla, and I am sure this outing was very well planned in advance (and of course it gave Adam a chance to go shopping, which is one of his favorite pastimes). They both seem like intelligent, well grounded people who like to have a good time. Personally, I loved in the video where Adam says, “after you” to Drake — what a gentleman!

  • kate09

I want to go shopping with Adam!

  • sauer1

Thanks MJ. I was beginning to think Adam needed to crawl in a hole and die. I think he is gonna have to work a little harder but I think his career will be fine. I just refuse to believe that there are that many closed minded people that buy rock music that are gonna ban adam from creating music. My sons both love Adam and they think this whole gay thing is funny. My son goes to college at UCLA and they talk about Adam’s music. All his friends know he is gay but they really liked him when he did whole lotta love and performed with KISS. My son also likes Katy Perry and Lady GaGa. I think he’s lost his mind but he compares them alot and he and his friends are awaiting Adam’s album. They like how he comes across. No fear!

Adam needs to be Adam. I think because he is such a strong man and has such strong beliefs, he will work hard and it will happen.

I just wish they would hurry up and sign him. Or has he been signed? I don’t know?

  • papercut

Let’s hope Perez decides to be “nice” to Adam when he’s got music to put out there. As obnoxious as Perez is, he’s certainly got influence when it comes to the music scene. His support of Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen helped break them in the US.

  • Bufflehead

Well, Adam sure has a type. He likes them very petite and effeminate.

He likes twinks. Good for him. “Straight acting, seeking same” gay men make me somewhat uncomfortable because it seems like a little bit of internalized homophobia.
It’s possible that being out will damage his career to a certain extent. I would guess he has considered that and has concluded that he’d rather take the risk of some damage to his career (or it might help his career due to all the fascination and media attention, who really knows) than try to hide, deny, play games, or even worse, ask his lover to hide or play games. Anyone with an internet connection and rudimentary google skills can see that he’s been VERY out and proud since he was a teenager. Being out and not lying about who he is matters to him from what I can see. My guess is that he consciously decided that it matters more to him than trying to please every possibly homophobic potential fan or delusional female fan who believes that his being really, truly, very gay threatens her fantasy life.

Stipe came out in 94′ yet said he didn’t want to define himself as gay, straight or bisexual. it wasn’t until 2001 that he told Time magazine he was a “queer artist” (his words, not mine) and talked about his relationship w. a man

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Stipe

he had critical success in mid 80′s…and reached mainstream popularity in 91 and 92 . so again, he publically came out AFTER he dropped albums and gained critical and mainstream acclaim.

obviously the world of the 80s,90s is different from the world of 2009 (thankfuly!)….but i still don’t know of a major star that began his or her musical career as a gay artist.

Ever hear of a singer called Freddie Mercury??? Why do you think the group named themselves Queen??? And this was in the 1970s – it was a f**k you to the media before they could start any crap.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ I thought up the name Queen. It’s just a name, but it’s very regal obviously, and it sounds splendid, It’s a strong name, very universal and immediate. It had a lot of visual potential and was open to all sorts of interpretations. I was certainly aware of gay connotations, but that was just one facet of it. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Freddie Mercury

David Bowie, who performed at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and recorded the song “Under Pressure” with Queen said of Mercury, “Of all the more theatrical rock performers, Freddie took it further than the rest…he took it over the edge. And of course, I always admired a man who wears tights. I only saw him in concert once and as they say, he was definitely a man who could hold an audience in the palm of his hand.”

Bowie outed himself in an interview with Melody Maker in January 1972, a move coinciding with the first shots in his campaign for stardom as Ziggy Stardust.

REM were HUGE back in the 80à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and 90à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, and I do believe Michael Stipe has been out at least since the late 80à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s. I think he qualifies.

Plus, Rob Halford of Judas Priest-a popular metal bandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’is gay and out.

Bob Mould of Husker Duà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’also out. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not a big rockstar, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s certainly not a failure either.

And of course, Morrissey of the Smiths. Not a huge rockstar in the US, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got a fierce cult following.

Prince, Elton John, Boy George, George Michael, Freddie Mercury and I’m sure there more.

Didn’t all these people come out after they were established?

I haven’t seen anything promiscuous or immoral from Adam. I’d have to be pretty judgmental to find anything of the sort from what I’ve seen so far. Adam had a boyfriend Brad from 2004 on/off until last year, and I haven’t seen him on dates with any other guys until now. (just from what I know online) Shopping and out dancing while sipping on a cocktail doesn’t seem immoral to me. I’ve done much worse, and I think I’m a very good person. I’d have to see a lot more to make any judgments about him (you know unless you are perfect yourself don’t throw the stone stuff) , but regardless I hope he just gets to sing. I wish it was all about the singing. I’m hating all the Drake stuff, but just because I think it is irrelevant, yet very decremental to his career.

  • lizland

I think Drake has an IQ of 125, and high EQ, is an avid baseball fan (Houston), but also thinks Dali is the best artist ever. He reads 3 books a week, mainly on existentialism and puppetry. He has never had an important romantic relationship before so he is being sure to take this one slow and smart. His favorite color is green and he wears boxers.

Yes, that is one hell of a revealing photo.

  • lucy

On Stipe: Wikipedia isn’t the best source in the world (though a way better source on pop culture than it is on anything else — heh), but the Michael Stipe article says that despite mad rumors during the 80s and early 90s — including a persistent rumor that he had AIDS, which I think I remember — he didn’t actually come out until 1994. That kind of rings a bell with me, but that may just be some cocktails I once drank talking.

  • TKat

I checked on this to make sure that I wasn’t mis-remembering and although I’m sure most people thought Michael Stipe was gay, but he didn’t say he was gay publically until 2001. Here’s the link:

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/1329994.stm

And Rob Halford is English. And there are quite a number of gay British pop/rock stars.

My point was I can’t find one American Rock Star who was openly gay before they were a star. Before the mid-1950′s many of the most celebrated American popular music artists were gay, but even Little Richard never came out publically and said he was gay (although many venues wouldn’t book him.)

  • LaurelG

God, I hate to give Perez’s blog any hits, but I guess I must if I want to see the Adam pictures. Perez’s whole 180 after seeing a couple of pictures of Adam holding hands with his new bf is a bit ridiculous though. He had obviously dug himself a big hole with his “publicly closeted” tirades and I’m sure was looking for a way out. Both Perez and Richard/Gawker guy got reamed by their readers in every negative post they made. Totally reamed. I wonder if others in the gay community didn’t say something privately to Perez too. He, Gawker guy and Adam M. of EW seemed to be a shrill little minority party of three.

Oh, and Adam gets an A for manners. Holding the door open for Drake, carrying all the packages, seating Drake in the car before going around to get in the driver’s seat. Drake’s a lucky guy.

  • Ellie2

I can’t speak for Adam (obviously), but I would guess that for him being open and honest about his life, and living it as he wants to, trumps even success. If he has to hide who he is in order to become a superstar, I’m guessing Adam would say screw it, it’s not worth it.

Adam is talented enough to make it on his merits and I think fairly soon all this talk about his sexuality will be only so much background noise. In a few years we’ll all look back on this and laugh that anyone was ever worried that Adam’s being gay would hurt his career. And yes, I really do believe that.

My husband was clueless that Adam is gay and he watched every show with me. He thought he was theatrical, but never thought he was gay.

Heck, mine never even picked up on “theatrical”. He just thought Adam was the second coming of Axl Rose and Robert Plant LOL. The gay thing never even occurred to him. He didn’t find out until Bill O’Reilly told him. He couldn’t wait to give me the “scoop”, so I tried to act surprised.

Only person whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sex life Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve had an issue w/was and is Michael Jackson.

    Well, that’s because it’s not a “sex life”, it’s a felony.

I guess Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m trying to figure out why the heck this all mattersà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..being Canadian makes it more difficult to comprehend I guess.

I can’t figure it out either, and I’m American :)

Thanks MJ. My “Breakin the Law” lovin heart was starting to break that with all of this talk of gay rock stars, no one mentioned Rob.

I wonder if he took the IQ test that’s linked here on MJ’s blog? You know the one that says..are you smarter than Adam Lambert? And I am still wondering if all of the contestants were required to take these IQ tests and why? Or are these IQs just made up numbers?

Do you know what promiscuous actually means?

.. and I woudn’t take one gossip article from a “source” as being fact … I’ve read a couple of other articles about Adam’s visit to the nightclub which give a totally different story .. so who’s to say which one is true .. or if any of them are true.

… plus someone’s idea of “dirty dancing” may be completely different from another’s

Being flamboyant and having fun with your friends, not causing harm to anyone else doesn’t seem immoral to me. … but perhaps us Brits are just a bunch of floozies ….lol

  • Tess

Correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t think Freddie Mercury ever came out because he was really never in. His “relationship” with his “girl” friend was pretty long lasting and I think only dissolved when Freddie became involved with a male partner in a serious relationship. He did have a period in his life when he was rather promiscuous and really into the “gay” identity. This is when he had the mustache and the slicked back, very short hair, and wore the muscle T’s. I remember, even now, how shocked we all were when he announced he had aids and died a few days later.

Those were difficult times and I lost a lot of really close friends and relatives. Hopefully we have all become a lot smarter and a lot more tolerant. Freddie really helped open a lot of eyes and really helped a lot of people focus on the tragedy of aids. He was loved by men and women, straight and gays, and the music scene really suffered a loss when they lost him.

  • cwg509

I love that Adam is just daring people (and fans too) to have a problem with him and his life. Like “I’m not embarrassed, is Bill O’Reilly embarrassed that I am holding my boyfriend’s hand?” Adam is not going to stop being fearless. Though he never lacked self-confidence, he got a huge boost from doing so well on the show, and I doubt he is worried about this affecting his career negatively. Plus, he’s got the international markets to help him.

on Adam’s clubbing: many people (self included) were club kids in our early 20s. Then got a little older, and the thrill began to fade. Not that I still don’t enjoy the occasional jaunt. Adam seems to be moving into that phase where he wants a steady relationship, etc. Maybe Drake will be around for a while, maybe it will be someone else. They are still very young.

on DC/KC: I do think there are some parallels with sudden exposure after the show, fans being hyper-involved (ok, guilty on that one), and being happy to have new relationship to weather the spotlight with someone at your side.

Adam did not seem as patient as he usually is with the photogs, maybe it is getting old already?? Or maybe he’s just tired after the past couple of weeks (and months).

  • Ellie2

Since when is having a few drinks and dancing with your significant other considered bad moral behavior? Are we living in a Puritan state now? karenw, I’ve spent a lot of time in London, and from the Brits I know, you all are a lot more open minded than many/most Americans. And religion isn’t as mixed up the politics and life as it is in the States.

I now live in North Mississippi in the “buckle of the Bible belt”, where the Deep South meets Appalachia, where most counties still prohibit alcohol and our county courthouse has a temperance angel standing out front, so my view may be a little distorted. But even here in Mississippi, as much as I can tell, Adam is real popular.

Well, maybe not the same morality police, but I wouldn’t bet on people not calling the police at all. I remember a big flap in the Elliott fandom over him canoodling with his new, model girlfriend over dinner in some diner while on the AI tour. It was quite the scandal, as I remember. I think the original poster was meaning American bands/singers .. but yes a lot of gay British musicians were top sellers during the 80′s .. especially i the UK and Europe.

Just look at Frankie Goes To Hollywood .. who couldn’t be more in your face about homosexuality with their song Relax .. a huge hit in the UK and Europe .. (in fact I think it was only beaten in sales by Band Aid in the year it was released) .. of course Relax was famously banned by Radio 1 because of it’s lyrics and the origial video .. but that just seemed to make it more popular with the buying public .. the ban was eventually lifted.

I think Frankie Goest to Hollywood were fantastic and I don’t think there were many young people of Clubbing age in the UK who didn’t posses a “Frankie Says RELAX” t-shirt …lol

Well they aren’t male and they aren’t rock, but both k.d.lange and Melissa Etheridge (and the Indigo Girls) came out pretty early in their respective careers.

But coming out certainly hasn’t hurt the actor Neil Patrick Harris, whose career is undergoing a resurgence if anything since announcing it.

Arm licking. There were reports of excessive PDA’s, drinking, and arm licking. At the time peeps weren’t sure if it was his old girlfriend or somebody entirely new.

That story broke right here. *waves at dingo* Much handwringing, and blaming the messegner (poor dingo…) ensued.

I could not believe what a storm that caused. It was a little silly.

George Michael’s tribute to Freddie “Somebody to Love” is awesome as is George and Elton doing “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”.
Why I’m mentioning this is to say artist’s, gay or straight, do tend to collaborate and be accepting and bring each other into the fold if they have genuine talent. Adam probably has people behind him he can’t even imagine who will help him sort this all out and make it about the music while he continues to present himself and his performance in an open and exciting way. I have no fear for Adam. He’s on a difficult road, but many of the obstacles to his success have been removed due to the many awesome, mainstream and edgy artists who have come before him. I’m also pretty sure there are a number of other young talents w/the same sexual orientation hot on his heels just waiting for the smoke to clear so they too can have their chance. Exciting time for music and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

  • SpenserJ

And no licking ever in public.

OMG – the arm-lick heard round the interwebs! LMAO – that was another of my favorite fan-girl meltdowns :)

OMG. SpenserJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ i love you (in the ungodly way?). seriously can we be Idol Life Partners? you SLAY me.

Twinkle, that is by far the best offer I’ve had all day. I’m blushing :redface_wp:

Lots of women seem to prefer guys w/bfs to guys w/gfs. It feeds into some really out there fan fiction. But just to get serious. I think people will be fine with Adam’s private life if he handles it in a restrained manner.

If he’s hitting the clubs with the bf and other guys, etc. I don’t think it’ll work for the Idol crowd. Only because Idol is basically a family show. If he came up like Gaga he could do anything he wanted but Idol has its own rules of behavior.

Although I could be completely wrong and things have changed for contestants. It’s possible.

Comparing being gay to being a Catholic? My, thats scary!
The article gave the account of Adam dirty dancing, among other things with several males. And the ott drinking.
Not just a date with his boyfriend.
If this is the truth, its bad moral behavior and promiscuous.
I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know for sure its true, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m afraid it probably is.
I mean Adam is flamboyant, he may live a wild life.
    Is that a good thing?

What I said is that there is no such thing as a “gay lifestyle”. I wouldn’t compare being gay to being Catholic since ultimately as an adult the decision to be Catholic is a choice whereas being gay is like having blue eyes. It’s biological.

Sorry, I haven’t seen any evidence of “bad moral behavior” on Adam’s part. Just the opposite, in fact.

  • Susan M.

Man, this is completely insane. Must be a slow news day … oh wait, a PLANE FELL OUT OF THE FREAKIN’ SKY yesterday and we’re obsessing about this? Predicting an early demise of the career of one of the most talented people to come onto the scene in years because he has the nerve to enjoy an evening out after being practically locked in a box while working his ass off for months? With someone he apparently cares about?

I’m in the media and I am completely in AWE of how Adam has handled everything. He has walked more than a razor’s edge from the beginning and done it brilliantly. He’s negotiated a thread-thin tightrope over flame-filled, shark-infested waters and he STILL manages to be handling it with humor, grace, a matter-of-fact relaxed attitude and the seasoned polish of someone who has spent years negotiating this kind of scrutiny.

More power to you, Adam!! Although I do have to feel for poor Drake; that would be tough for the strongest person to deal with. I know I couldn’t imagine waking up one day and having to start worrying about TMZ going through my trash … jeez!

Rufus Wainwright may not be a huge pop singer, but he’s an American who has an extrememly successful music career, and I don’t believe he’s ever been in the closet.

I like how this blogger handled the pic. Matter-of-factly stating that Adam was with his new boyfriend (then snarked on Drake’s hair). It’s a few photos down.

If heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hitting the clubs with the bf and other guys, etc. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll work for the Idol crowd. Only because Idol is basically a family show. If he came up like Gaga he could do anything he wanted but Idol has its own rules of behavior.

Can’t say that I agree. I think fans of his on the show will probably continue to support him. The key is in expanding his fanbase outside of Idol, not just appealing to Idol fans. That will depend on his music, which right now remains to be seen.

  • sunchick

    Heavenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s that was the entire plot line for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Long Hot Summerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Gone with the Windà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

    :smirk1_ee:

Adam’s boyfriend is a hottie, but needs a new name. What kind of combo name is Dradam? Adrake? I mean, really.

And of course, Morrissey of the Smiths.

Morrissey, methinks, technically claims to be asexual and refuses to think of himself in terms of masculine or feminine, homosexual, heterosexual, or bisexual. I’ve read that he hates gender deliniations and sexual segregation and tries to write without making reference to male or female, so that his lyrics are universally applicable. And Adam’s attitude about his sexuality is provocative? Yeah, way to make a mountain out of a molehill, press.

  • clearone

I really hope Adam becomes that artist whose music carries them and not their personal life.

    Ditto.

It hurt Cook a bit last year and he was very discreet with Kim.

if kim wasn’t such an annoying, over tanned wench, maybe it wouldn’t have been a big deal LOL

Idol fans donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like it when their fav throws the gf in their faces. It hurt Cook a bit last year and he was very discreet with Kim. No PDAs at all. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t blame them for not liking the bf in their faces either. Same deal. So Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d recommend Adam keep it equally discreet with his bf as Cook kept it last year. And no licking ever in public.

When it comes to a choice of Adam living his life honestly or pleasing his puritanical fans, I have a feeling that Adam will choose to live as he pleases. Like the man himself said “They can buy the other guy’s record… It’s fine”.
Kudos to Adam for having the courage of his own convictions. I find it positively inspiring.

    Does not compute.

And wasn’t someone talking about Adam playing Ren in the new musical….or am I way off base. Wonder what the six degrees of separation are between Adam and Kevin. Bet we could figure it out in two…or maybe just one ’cause isn’t Kevin an AI fan?

  • cay

He’d be the first which would be awesome and I’m pulling for him. But he did come from Idol which hurts anyway. He isn’t a Lady Gaga you’re right. But, luckily for Adam, he should still get some career in entertainment and that is what he wanted. He’d be great as a correspondent on a TV show, or he’ll at least get better theater and he could be a huge hit in the Hollywood Club circuit. So, IF, he’s hurt too much on the recording artist side (and this does hurt him in many different ways imo), he’s got so many other pluses going for him.

  • TKat

I think that it is difficult for many non-Americans to understand the odd history of being Gay in America. In fact most Americans don’t really know very much about this the history of Gays in America.

In the pre-code 1920′s America, it was fairly acceptable to be gay. Many of the most famous and popular American entertainers, writers and artist were openly gay. American film even included openly gay relationships. In the mid 1930′s America became very conservative, and many laws were passed that made homosexuality illegal and pushable by imprisonment or a visit to a mental institution. (Note this coincided with similar efforts in other countries, most notably Germany.) In the late 1960′s and 1970′s there was once again a period of sexual freedom and in many parts of the country it was OK to be gay. But in the 1980′s the rise of American conservatism and then the emerange of AIDS changed everything. Finally, in the 1990′s things got somewhat better, but even then Clinton only went as far as “don’t ask, don’t tell”.

And it wasn’t until a 2003 US Supreme Court ruling that anti-sodomy laws that applied to homosexuals were eliminated in 24 states, making the US the last Western country to eliminate prison terms for homosexuality between consenting adults.

The battle for gay civil rights in the US has been a very hard battle — and at times a violent one. No other country that had major gay riots, like Stonewall in 1959. It really does look like things are changing — finally. But I thought that in the 1970′s, so I will wait and hope for better days.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Good point. Also, I mentioned Rob Halford and Morrisey, because of their appeal to Americans. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure their actual nationality matters.

Oh, Fred Schneider from the B52s. By the time they had their most successful album in the late 80′s, I think it was pretty clear he was gay, although there never was a big announcement. Plus, one of their members had died of an AIDS related illness…

At this point, I don’t think Adam’s sexual preference is going to matter, I really don’t.

If he makes an appealing record, he’ll be fine.

  • luvnlife

I don’t think times have changed. But I do think that Idol probably tends to have more fans who feel this way for whatever reason than the world at large does. Probably because people get differently invested in somebody they see and vote for on television and whose parents and baby pictures they’ve looked at.

So since you have to get fans beyond Idol if you’re going to make it anyway, he might as well start now.

LOL! Sure. I’m just talking about your average, straight, suburban dad who loves Adam and thinks he’s the best thing to hit the music scene in years. Sort of a one-sided bromance, if you will. And believe me…on my block at least half the dads have a man-crush on Adam.

  • Anastasia72071

Acid wash jeans? Is Adam wearing acid wash jeans? I am so hoping we can leave that 80s style back in the 80s.

    karenw
Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re not acid wash .. I believe theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re the jeans he wore for the No Boundaries performace during the final. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ and those are actually white jeans that had the black parts painted on.
    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I know .. I should get out more à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..lol

LOL! I don’t know whether they’re the ‘new’ version of acid wash or whether they’re painted, but they definitely are the same jeans he wore in the Finale. I’ve seen him recycle quite a few articles of clothing actually (even a pair of jeans that I recently saw in a couple of 2-year-old photos). Karen, you think YOU need to get out more?!?! Guilty. :wink1_tb:

Oh and as far as the 80s style goes – I lived through it the first time (born in ’71), and I can tell you I’ve been in agony the past few years seeing it all come back again (I don’t know about elsewhere, but it’s *everywhere* here in Vancouver! Pure torture, I tell you). Whoever thought stirrup pants and batwing sleeves were a good idea to bring back, ought to be put in front of a firing squad.

Adam will have a successful career. Now if you are correct that this will hurt him in many different ways like with a recording career, don’t you think that he could still front Queen? Broadway is panting for him to come there – he was already on the short list before he passed the audition for AI to headline “Spiderman the Musical” on Broadway (and the producers knew he is gay) with music being written by U2s Bono and Edge. Being gay will have no impact on Adam working on Broadway – see Nathan Lane. Or he could begin making movies – being gay did not hurt Rupert Everett. Adam has many options open to him to be successful.

I have never ever understood female fans who get so caught up in their fantasies about a male singer, actor, performer or any male celebrity that they would cease being a fan if said person has a gf, wife, partner or as in Adam’s case a bf!

For fucks sake! Get a grip. That’s just looney to me. The fantasies and the semi-smutty talk are just good fun. How can you get pissed off because a celeb you like is dating or married to someone? They are strangers to you. I find it freakin scary and kinda sad.

I have great respect for someone who is willing to be courageous in the face of so many flying barbs from every direction, no matter what he does someone is going to be unhappy so bravo to him for being unafraid and unapologetic about living his life, I always thought that was what American values were about, freedom from narrow-minded puritanism.

Let’s say Adam releases a good album that lives up to expectations. And let’s assume that only people who are sure not be offended by Adam’s life style will buy his record… The gay community in the US comprises 5% of the population. That’s 12,500,000 people. If 10% of them buy Adam’s record that’s 1.2 million CD sales. That’s platinum.
If only 1% of the gay community buy his record and say 1% of 40% of AI viewers (or 4% of 20 million) thats: 125,000 800,000= 925,000 CD sales in the US alone.

These are conservative estimates that don’t take into consideration overseas sales. I think Adam will be fine.

On the other hand, if Adam releases a lousy record then you maybe right, and his career as a pop-star maybe doomed. But even I find it highly doubtful.

Maybe it’s a bit of a generalization, but I think Adam’s run on the show didn’t really appeal to the audience that would be more upset by that? I am sure his fanbase has people who could be morality police, but in general his stage personality probably put off some of those people anyway. Overall, anyway.

Besides, the non-Idol crowd is going to be what makes or breaks him. I think the music he wants to make (whether it happens or not) is going to be aimed at people who won’t be fussed about clubs and a boyfriend.

If you can’t sell records, then you can always sell your “celebrity”. Interesting marketing technique for the oh so close-to-being the American Idol.

It hurt Cook a bit last year and he was very discreet with Kim.

I don’t think it hurt Cook last year, but it did make some fans a bit annoyed, if not angry, that he maintained all season that he was single and then when the final vote was in, he asked Kim out on the red carpet on finale night and began their rather brief relationship. Some silly fans saw it as a slap in the face because, of course, they all imagined they had a chance with him, which I guess, from a marketing standpoint, would make him more appealing. Some even accused him of purposely “leading them on” just to get votes. Oh boy.
I think if he had had a girlfriend (or wife) going into the competition, no one would have cared and would have loved him just as much as people love Kris. In the end, it hasn’t hurt him–and now he’s single again and we all have a chance with him so, life is good. (sarcasm)

Of course, with Adam, not only do female fans have no chance with him–even if we did, we’d still have no chance with him. LOL

  • lola

Adam’s honesty will pull him through. “The truth shall set you free”. Others may find his brutal honesty as going against the norm but I guess it will be better this way than having people continue wagging their tongues behind his back and constantly hounding him. How many of us are still living in the shadows because we are too much afraid of what the society will say. I admire him for being at peace for who he is.

How could I forget the B52′s!?!

being gay did not hurt Rupert Everett.

Mr. Everett would beg to differ with you.

    http://www.celebitchy.com/37434/rupert_everett_claims_being_openly_gay_affected_his_career_wanted_basic_instinct_2_role/

It was a role which, coupled with his openness about his sexuality, pigeonholed him into only playing gay characters and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ according to the actor à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ killed his future as a leading Hollywood man.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I wanted to be a movie star,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ he told the mag. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I had a difficult set of circumstances to deal with, particularly for a movie career.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    When pressed, Rupert responds bluntly, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Being gay, really. It just doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t work.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

After he went public with his sexuality, Rupert alleges he was turned down for the lead role opposite Sharon Stone in the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Basic Instinctà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ sequelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ due to his sexuality. According to the actor, an MGM executive told his agent that an openly gay actor would be viewed as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“pervertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in the eyes of American audiences.

    Something the actor adamantly disagrees with, saying, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“As actors we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t play gay, straightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ we play human beings.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

But writing a tell-all book about inner Hollywood didn’t help matters either.

The “Adam was holding hands…with a GUY” silliness will die down once the press realize it’s become a non issue. And from that point on, if the media still want to talk about who he’s dating, well, they do that with celebrities.

gay is a lifestyle but God created eye color.

GOD also created the bonobos monkey. Nicknamed the “Hippie Monkey” because the males would rather make love with each other rather than fight, the species is bi-sexual. Is it biological for them and not biological for mankind?

I don’t know what I think exactly about people being ‘born gay.’ I don’t think any of us are 100% homosexual or heterosexual. I think most people trend one way or the other, & some people are bisexual…they are attracted to different people, some male, some female. I don’t like the term ‘gay lifestyle’ b/c it’s vague, just like ‘heterosexual lifestyle’ really is a nondescript term. I know gay men who are wonderful & fun to party with, & I know some who are dull as dirt.

  • spring2009

Have to agree with clearone that “being Canadian makes it more difficult to comprehend”. In true fantard fashion I was hoping to see some pictures of them out and about … but I can’t understand why the whole thing is such an ISSUE. I am just glad that Adam appears happy. He is very talented and seems like such a nice guy.

  • Tess

I have this sneaky suspicion that the internet is changing a lot of stuff for a lot of people…and allowing people a lot more freedom of thought then they would have had before its wide spread use. The same kind of phenomenon that has driven the pornographic portion of the internet is and will be responsible for more and more gay singers to get involved in the industry.

Now that J.Q. Public no longer has to go to his neighborhood store (where people may see him) to purchase his music albums he has more social feedom to buy what he wants not what he “should”. Now that ipods are so popular nobody knows what you are listening to, so you can listen to anything you want. Anonymity has given us all a way of throwing off the shackles of our small town prejudices. It may seem like a small thing, but I am sure there are many conservative stores, still, in this country that wouldn’t put a gay man’s album out for sale on their store racks.

Now people can order stuff from the privacy of their homes and it has and will make a difference to people’s listening and viewing habits…slowly one computer at a time.

  • Victoria

Someone at TWOP just found Drake Labry at #15 of the google hot trends list, that is some kind of insane.

    Whoa, that’s pretty crazy.

“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just smart not to turn off the female fan with your love interest. Similiar to why Simon told Kris to hide the wife. But I think honesty is great. Just that lots of female fans have crushes on these guys. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not all about the music and too much PDA can hurt”

Uh, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know, it seems like half the female fans out there are only heartbroken because they wanted Kradam PDA instead of Dradam PDA, so I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really the holding hands with a guy thing so much as which guy.

No kidding! I went over to IDF earlier this morning, expecting to see some fangirl meltdown but instead they were all sad because Adam isn’t with Brad (who is hilarious, btw) anymore. They weren’t “OMG NOOOO HE HAS A BF!”, but “OMG NOOOO HES NOT WITH BRAD!”

Thanks Ellie2! It makes more sense to us now. At first we thought wow Adam now has the power to turn straight men gay?

I dunno, taran33… i wouldn’t put it past him :) he is a magical creature.

i just bought the lady gaga issue of RS despite having already read the article because i have to OWN everything adam related. it is a sickness! lord have mercy.

also, having now read about lady gaga…. they do have a lot of parallels. it’s interesting. i wouldn’t mind him buddying up with her… she seems to really have her shit together. she knows how to work the business, has a clear sense of self and doesnt take herself too seriously. plus if they performed together it would be like glittery aliens invaded the world for three hours and threw a giant dance party. they would need a separate bus for their costumes though :)

Absolutely, 100% disagree with the above statements. All of them. But even if the “gay is a lifestyle” statement was true, so freakin’ what? So what if some people fall in love with a partner of the same sex? What’s the big deal? Who are they hurting? How does it affect you?

I now live in North Mississippi in the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“buckle of the Bible beltà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , where the Deep South meets Appalachia, where most counties still prohibit alcohol and our county courthouse has a temperance angel standing out front

And how’s that workin’ for ya, TKat?! LOL. It completely boggles my mind (to the point where I imagine my brain boiling itself into oblivion) that things like this are still part of the social reality of what is supposedly The Greatest Nation In The World. • lola

I have to admit though that I am one of the fangirls who would rather have Adam keep his sexuality a mystery. And I do believe that his “coming out” will have an effect on his career. In fact, I told myself that this will be better since I can have an early withdrawal of him. But then again, when I watch back his performances, I got hooked again. I agree with most of his fans, it’s the talent. But we cannot also discount the fact he might lose some of his fans who were only after his looks and his manly projection on stage. It only shows you cannot please everyone.

  • RubySlippers

What about the Pet Shop Boys?! I still love them and I always thought they were out all along….okay, I know, another Brit band, but they were really popular in the 80s.

The only reason I was somewhat disturbed by Cook last year was the way he asked her out, just too public, imo, plus he was WAY too good for that bitch…LOL.

What I said is that there is no such thing as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“gay lifestyleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t compare being gay to being Catholic since ultimately as an adult the decision to be Catholic is a choice whereas being gay is like having blue eyes. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s biological.

Its not been proven to be biological.
gay is a lifestyle but God created eye color.

Two of my cousins are gay, one male and one female. We’re all the same age an have played together all our lives along with loads of other cousins and friends. We were basically one large group. I remember the first time the other boys made my gay male cry. He was 6 and he was different and all the other boys new it even then. They wouldn’t let him play on their team he was always forced to go with the girls. My girl cousin on the other hand, was always on the boys team.

I’ve always known on a subconscious level, and by the time I was 15 I could give it a name. These two cousins of mine stayed celibate until their early 20′s. Each of hem refusing to face their nature. Now they’re in their 30′s both and are settled and contented, each in their own way.

But anecdotal evidence means little, so here’s a scientific study on the subject. http://www.springerlink.com/content/w27453600k586276/

Man…if being gay was a choice and a lifestyle choice I would so choose to be a lesbian now that I am a widow and over 60. But alas, I can’t figure out a way to reprogram the inner workings so that kissing another woman “tickles my peepee” as my brother says.

And of course, Morrissey of the Smiths.

Technically Morrissey has never discussed his sexuality. It’s not a huge leap to assume he’s gay, but he’s always been coy about it, and refused to discuss the gender of his partners. He feels discussion of his personal life distracts from the music.

Let me pile on the thanks for bringing up Rob Halford. Priest doesn’t get enough respect these days. *sniff*

Another always out singer, Dan Sells of The Feeling. Also yet another good pop/ rock band that doesn’t chart here.

Reading all these comments is hilarious (for the most part). Just to add my two cents to the “gay lifestyle” issue — many studies have shown a genetic component to homosexuality and that homosexuality is a constant throughout the animal kingdom (at about the same percentage it is found in humans). There is also a lot of evidence that human sexuality is a continuum and that most of us are somewhere on the spectrum between being totally gay and totally straight.

That being said, I have had many gay friends over the years who have all told me that they have not chosen to be the way they were. They know that they were born that way. I know this is true for my gay cousins — by the time one of my cousins came out, we all just looked at him and said, “yeah, so?” I also have a cousin who is truly bi-sexual. I remember having a really interesting conversation with him about this years ago. I asked him about being bi-sexual and what it was like for him, and he replied that whether you were with a man or a woman, “there was always something you missed” ….LOL. I’ve thought about that comment a lot over the years, and I think it was really insightful.

Regarding Adam and Drake, I am sure their whole trip to that club was planned in advance with at least the knowledge of Adam’s publicist. They didn’t just go to some club, but to a hot new club that serves “A-list” people. This means that there will definitely be paparazzi hanging around waiting for them and that they WILL be photographed. Then inside the club they would be in a pretty safe environment where they won’t be trampled and would be able to have a good time. I’m sure they knew exactly what they were doing, and good for them. In addition, although I’m sure Adam went through a typical club kid phase, he has always struck me as being more of a relationship kind of guy. He prefaced one of his Upright Cabaret songs with some comments about how “non-intimate” sexual situations can be painful.

It also looked like that car he was driving was his new Ford. It certainly seemed quiet (except for the horn–LOL).

  • Niall

My thinking is if having a BF and being public about it is going to piss off the fangirls, then Adam should be as “in your face” as possible. No reason to cowtow to the loonies. The idea of being jealous and possessive of a stranger is freaky.

  • JazzRocks

What fun to read all this stuff. I’m SO glad Adam & Drake went out last night! If they had opted to watch TV in bed while eating ice cream I would be so bored today.

  • Tess

SpenserJ …Guilty as charged. I googled him when the National Enquirer Article came out. If you think I’m going to let my sweet Opie/Adam hang around with someone I don’t know…well (and a lot of good it would do me disagree with his choice, right.) I actually found European videos of him posted for our enjoyment, as well as a bit of his Architectural school project.

You know, Moms need to be interested in their kids…right. And, like the TV adds keep telling us….if you put it on the internet it is there for everyone’s enjoyment. Big Brother is truly watching us now!

  • brin

No kidding! I went over to IDF earlier this morning, expecting to see some fangirl meltdown but instead they were all sad because Adam isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t with Brad (who is hilarious, btw) anymore. The even funnier parts at IDF is where they get all protective of Adam and haven’t yet decided if Drake is “good enough” for Adam. Drake better beware the angry fangirls if he breaks Adam’s heart.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m weirded out by the fact that people are actually googling the guy Adam is dating. That cracks me up.

I’m pretty sure this outing was planned well in advance. I’m thinking this, not the Rolling Stone cover, might be what both Ryan and Adam referenced when they tweeted/said Adam would address “the sexuality speculation” soon.

  • flynnsgirl

If Adam puts out some great music, the small minority of people who won’t buy it because gasp, he’s gay, won’t make any difference in the long run. I can guarantee that many of these same complaining people are singing along in their car to Elton John or Johnny Mathis, back in the day. Music transcends all of this crap. I don’t think the buying public really gives a crap. Adam is ridiculously sexy and hawt. I couldn’t care less who he sleeps with unless it’s me and that ain’t gonna happen no matter what. Bring us the music!

I vaguely remember someone from an earlier season getting a blue car instead of the red one that was shown. I can’t remember who it was though.

So it is possible that Adam ended up with a black one.

My guess is that Ford shows that color that will make the biggest impact on the collective minds of the market, and then the contestants get to choose the actual color.

With regard to Adam specifically, it makes me upset that people on other boards are saying that Drake is not good enough for him. How on earth can anyone tell that based on a few AI screen shots, a few photos, a short video, and some “with friends” Youtube stuff? We don’t know the inner workings of either of their minds and why they click together the way they do.

I would be really hurt if people who claimed to support me went around saying that my husband wasn’t good enough for me.

It also irks me a bit when comments are made on other boards insinuating that Drake better realize how lucky he is. I’m sure that Drake thinks he is lucky – but I’m guessing that Adam believes he is just as lucky as Drake is. Drake is not the less special one in this relationship. Neither of them is less special than the other. Is Adam more special to ME? Yes. But I’d like to think that Adam and Drake view themselves as equals and are therefore equally special.

Good for him to always stay true to himself. If he keeps singing like that any other stuffs should not be a big deal!

    http://www.celebitchy.com/37434/rupert_everett_claims_being_openly_gay_affected_his_career_wanted_basic_instinct_2_role/

It was a role which, coupled with his openness about his sexuality, pigeonholed him into only playing gay characters and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ according to the actor à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ killed his future as a leading Hollywood man.

It was the wrong role to pick at the wrong time, all actors pick wrong roles. Now if that were true for all gay actors then why is the openly gay Neil Patrick Harris wildly acclaimed and accepted as a huge womanizer on “How I Met Your Mother?” His character in in and out of bed with more women than all the other characters combined. He is totally out as a gay man and is totally accepted as the womanizer on this t.v. show.

I’ve been sitting on my hands watching the posts.
Please let me add this thought: we are all different in many ways, from what we like, to whom we love, to what we create.
Some different people create children, some create art, some create music, and on and on. The world is a better place for our “differences”. If suppressed, what kind of world would this be? Whether nature or nurture, “Viva La Difference”!

  • ptslittlecomment

linsav, I agree completely, that is why I pointed to Neil Patrick Harris as one of the success stories way upthread.

Someone else said it didn’t hurt Rupert Everett. I was just pointing out that he said it did.

What the hell – the version I am watching is only 0:38 – where you getting another 2 seconds?

That was my question!! Just imagine the goodies we might be missing in those 2 seconds!!!!

  • karenw

What the hell – the version I am watching is only 0:30 – where you getting another 2 seconds?

There’s a bit that I like to freeze frame on for a couple of seconds …lol

  • Ellie2

    Clay

This is just my opinion, but I think the way that Clay come out hurt him as much, or more, than the fact that he’s gay. People respect honesty. And they respect people who own who they are, without apologies–something Clay didn’t do for a very long time.

  • http://justaddbooks.blogspot.com/ maree

Call me shallow … those photos are hot. Also, while reading all the comments here, and Perez and YouTube … my two year old has emptied the recycling bin. It’s hard to have a life, and keep up with all the important gossip …

  • brin

lol .. I guess weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re back to that 0:40 sec youtube video again

Somehow all Adam threads seem to come back to that eventually….gee, I wonder why?

And he didn’t write a book dissing all of his co-stars up to that point.

  • lavender1960

Yes, I think 19E has the approval. He signed a contract. I believe they are testing the waters if America is ready to embrace a gay singer. Nothing new, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just like having an updated Boy George.

Did I miss something? While America is still not as liberal as other parts of the world, I don’t believe that Americans have never embraced a gay singer or performer before Adam Lambert. Even openly gay ones.

Perhaps not in the context of AI which is but a small blip in the history of entertainment.

Very cute date or boyfriend, good on ya Adam boy.

  • Susan M.

I have the same suspicion. But apparently, I also have bad morals, as I have danced and consumed copious amounts of vodka myself.

LOL! I know, according to this new moral code, I am apparently a huge fà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢in slut and an alcoholic to boot. Go me!

I’m right there with you girls!! And BTW, if you’ve never danced (dirty or otherwise) in a gay club, you haven’t danced. I’m straight (and could never be construed as remotely promiscuous), but THAT is what you call fun.

  • twinkle

in the other pictures of adam and drake coming out of Kitson (he bought drake the jacket he had on later) you can see Drake’s tattoos up close… they look so interesting! one is some sort of chair (significant to his designing im sure) and another one is a big ‘D’ but with sketching/design/architecture lines on it.

hehe… now we are going to perpetuate a rumor that there is a “40 second” version of the video floating around. i can see the headline now – “fangirls riot demanding lost 2 seconds of footage”

  • SpenserJ

    Sorry. I think I may have over-edited your postà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

You guys are hard to keep up with.

It’s a tough job you’ve got there. And, I should have known better than to take the bait anyway :)

And he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t write a book dissing all of his co-stars up to that point.

    That too could be problematic.

It may just be me, but I really don’t see any discernable difference between the state of Clay’s career before he came out and after. All he had going on was Spam a lot right? And, that was set to close anyway. Clay’s recording career was on a downhill trajectory long before he came out.

And, as a sidenote, whatever Clay’s been doing to his face is downright horrifying. So, maybe any further career slide is more about the creepiness than the gay thing.

  • Ellie2

And BTW, if youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never danced (dirty or otherwise) in a gay club, you havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t danced. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m straight (and could never be construed as remotely promiscuous), but THAT is what you call fun.

^^^^This. SO MUCH FUN!!! You can dance and have a great time and never worry that someone’s going to molest you on your way to the bar.

  • cmheart

Adam may not be the definition of the typical American Idol. But if he produces an awesome album, I don’t think his sexuality will matter much at all. Who knows, all this publicity may actually help him rid himself of the Idol label, which could ultimately help his career in the end. There are a lot of people who watch Idol. But there are quite a lot who don’t, and having Idol attached to your name can often produce a somewhat negative stigma.

I honestly think his sexuality gives him more edge. Which makes him more appealing. (At least in my opinion).

  • linsav

    Niall Jun 2nd, 2009 at 6:06 pm

My thinking is if having a BF and being public about it is going to piss off the fangirls, then Adam should be as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“in your faceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as possible. No reason to cowtow to the loonies. The idea of being jealous and possessive of a stranger is freaky.

I decided to look on the scary boards to see what the consensus is and so far it is a positive for Adam and Drake being scrutinized as maybe not his type, or being accepted, or thinking Adam and Brad would get back together.

I also want to add that I think Perez Hilton did indeed take the hand holding picture as “proof” because he was vilified on his own website each time he was negative about Adam. A. Markovitz has been very quiet since he too was vilified last week about Adam not being a good role model for kids.

  • flor

Adam is just so unbelievably talented and I don’t care if he is gay. For a peace in the world, everybody should work together to encourage equal human rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

  • lavender1960

I like Rupert Everett but I am trying to think if he ever played a romantic leading man before he came out – I think Rupert may have already been stuck in character actor land which frankly is not a bad place to be – you have a longer though less enriching career.

I think TV however is more liberal than the Hollywood film industry, not the indie film world of course but your major studios. TV is always a few light years ahead. I so miss Queer as Folk, one of my favourite shows. And there half the cast was gay and the other half wasn’t and you’d have been hardpressed to figure out who was playing for what team.

I don’t know if the speculation about Adam will die down even if there is a big reveal in Rolling Stone because doesn’t the tour start in a few weeks so Adam will be doing press interviews almost every single day. And really does 19 Entertainment want the buzz to die down? I don’t think so.

  • cwg509

Drake is called “designer pal” by People.com? lol

  • anna in vegas

Adam can do whatever he wants with his personal life. His choices are his to make, if Perez or anyone likes it or not. I respect his obviously good taste in Drake and I’m sure he knew what he was going to be facing in the press.

Good for Adam. I do not care as long as he continues to make us all happy here as he has been doing. Impatiently awaiting some awesome music from our Idol. I am definitely an Adamaniac for life! :wub_tb:

Oh good Lord – mj apparently he can’t get out of that damn closet. Inside Edition just reported that Adam is coming out in the next edition of RS. The photo of him holding hands with another guy while leaving a nightclub might fuel speculation. ROFLMAO

And Insider just showed a pic of them from the waist up (NO HAND HOLDING FOR THEM!) and mentioned that he went out to a club with a friend.

  • papercut

wow “drake labry” is #12 on GOOGLE TRENDS….

Is the world really THAT interested in Adam’s boyfriend? xD lol. Wouldn’t it be weird if you’re Drake? I would be scared if millions of people just started googling my name. It’s like being stalked.

Rupert Everett but I am trying to think if he ever played a romantic leading man before he came out

He played the womanizer in Dance with a Stranger (Blakeley) in 1984. But the first movie role that really got him attention was his starring role in Another Country – a role he also played on the West End in London – about an openly homosexual student in the 1940′s. He has played a few straight charaters since – Algernon/Ernest in the Importance of Being Ernest, but most of his more famous roles have either been as the gay best friend ( Best Friend’s Wedding) or effeminatly ambiguous leading men.

  • regi

Have been an Adam fan from day one – have been reading everything I can about him – I could care less rather he is gay, he could be purple, blue, and green for all I care. I think he is so talented and can not wait for his CD, etc.

What I want to know is why??? As I am reading all the obsessed fans (like me) talk, it makes me wonder why he has that effect on us….or maybe I should just join in and enjoy!

    BREAKING NEWS!

    KRIS’S IDOLATRY IS UP!

I think the world is interested in Adam Lambert. If Adam had a pet turtle, people would probably be googling it.

ETA: What the hell? So many typos, and I haven’t started drinking yet? Scary.

  • Susan M.

God, you guys crack. me. up. I have been biting the inside of my cheek to keep from laughing out loud at work. I can’t believe I’ve actually written two articles, edited three, responded to countless emails and still manage to follow this board, but it is hilarious!

Now I’ve forgotten which point I wanted to respond to, besides all of them. Actually, I should just say, we are living proof right here that trying to live an “under the radar” life, whatever your sexuality, if you have any notoriety whatsoever is a complete impossibility. We better just get used to the facts that our lives are becoming open books even if we’re not in the public eye (with MySpace, Facebook and Twitter). There is no point in trying to hide, even if you wanted to.

Adam apparently gets this and I am so glad he is living in a time when he doesn’t have to hide. This discussion alone is affecting change. We are growing up, but sometimes it’s so incremental that we don’t even realize.

  • TKat

You know I really don’t think that the vast majority of Americans care if someone is gay, straight or whatever. But I do think that the US movie, TV and music industry have thought that it was bad for business to have openly gay (male) stars. I think that they have underestimated America.

Lady Gaga has been able to be successful, and she says feels like a gay man:

When asked about her unique fashion sense, she said: “I guess you could say I’m a gay man trapped in a woman’s body in my own way. Look at Freddy Mercury!”

Plus she is ready to take on the JBs. “LADY GAGA – LADY GAGA WANTS JONAS FOURSOME”

And IMO it is useless to resist how frakking HAWT he is.

  • kate09

There is no answer to the questions…

‘Why do I watch Adam on YouTube over & over?’

‘Why do I refresh MJ’s blog every 5 minutes?’

‘Why must I watch the 38 second video before going to bed?’

‘Why do I want to ditch my man so I can paint my toenails & go shopping with Adam?’

‘Why am I attracted to a man in make-up who sometimes dresses in drag?’

‘Why do I find him more attractive in drag?’

I gave up…logic & reason have no place in the world of a true fantard. Just enjoy & hope he does something else fabulous that is caught on camera (like say the sweet angel who captured those magical 38 second).

…ok..I’m officially in denial. Never will look at another photo or video about this again-only about Adam. Yes!! my gorgeous sexy Elvis type adam that I love and will marry one day. He was only helping a cute little blonde kid go down the stairs-lol, we women are very good at being in denial.

Come on, remember when we all said I love him no matter what? Well ” I love him no matter what” for real. Let’s not stop talking about how great he is please cuz I just finished watching the “We are the Champions” song and got goosebumps.

On a more serious note whoever Adam’s manager is and he better damn well have one should have advised him to chill and “Smoky Mirror it-even on R.S. magazine” until established, just saying I don’t think it will hurt him but it’s always best to play it safe.

Love this and too true!! I worked in a luxury hotel in W. Hollywood for three years in college that catered to the music industry. I have NEVER been a rock groupie. David Coverdale lived in the hotel, knew him well and saw him every day (he was just ‘David’). I partied with Jimmy Page (didn’t even know it was him), waited on GNR, INXS, Elvis Costello and countless industry people. Was never really impressed (I was always into actors). Yet Adam has turned me into the most chronically addicted fantard that ever lived!!!

Until this situation, I’d never even watched more than maybe six full episodes of AI, but now à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ weeks after the fact à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I’m still completely obsessed with him. I’m going to Hawaii next week. Have I even thought about that? Barely. His effect on people is really otherworldly. But I love it. And I knew he was gay from day one. Didn’t care. Still don’t.

I know this is from pg 3, and I can’t possibly get through 8 pages of comments right now lol, so sorry if it’s a repeat…

Freddy Mercury had the guts to name the band Queen, and was never in a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“closetà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .

Yes they named the band Queen, but Freddie denied he was gay right up until he had a press conference the day before he died of AIDS. That he was gay was widely rumored, but always denied until that day. (RIP Freddie, assuming you’re not reincarnated in Adam Lambert, in which case, Rock On Dude! :-) )

  • Grammie Kari

Now that is a sexy picture! Yes, with clothes on.

How can TV Guide not include gorgeous Adam in their TOP 25 Sexiest Idol list?

  • TKat

Susan M. — Same for me. I have never been like this. I worked in the entertainment industry for years and lived/worked in NY and West LA. I met so many celebs and I have never been obsessive about anyone. And when I actually met people, I was usually disappointed. Last week I managed to use a connection to see (not meet) Adam LIVE in NY and he is actually even better in person. Perhaps it was like this for people and Elvis, but I was too young for that. Hopefully all my old friends will not disown me for turning into a “fan” but I have.

but Freddie denied he was gay right up until he had a press conference the day before he died of AIDS.

No…he never denied that he was gay. His announcement the day before he died was that he had aids…which he had denied.

Freddie was never in the closet so he couldn’t deny anything about that. He lived openly with men and had many affairs with men…all documented.

Adam appears to be a wonderful man and I know he is an extraordinary singer. If his friendship with Kris is indicative of the man, then I certainly wish he could be my friend too.

Frankly, I couldn’t care less what his sexual preferences are. I am really shocked/amazed it matters so much to so many people. Perhaps Nick Cave is right…”People just ain’t no good.”

–OK, way off topic, but Elvis Costello’s new CD came out today. I highly recommend it.

  • praepos

I don’t buy the Kris-Adam “friendship” exactly. Not as it’s portrayed on these threads.

  • kate09

In regard to newscasters freaking over Adam, does anyone remember the girl that works for the local Fox station in San Diego who was waiting at the station when Adam arrived for his interview. She was completely unprofessional, jumping up & down & squealing & shouting Adam’s name as his car pulled up…it was awesome.

I later read a ‘serious’ article about his day in San Diego & the author said something like “Adam’s first stop was the local Fox affiliate, where he was greeted by the most unprofessional news woman in history…” lolz

  • linsav

clearone, like from week 13 on they will be all living together and traveling on a bus(es) and recording their albums at the same time (Kris, Adam and Allison and any other Idol who gets a record contract). Their lives will be dictated by 19 while on tour. I am sure Katy will show up on her own frequently, not sure if Drake would.

  • clearone

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t buy the Kris-Adam à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“friendshipà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ exactly. I think they are friendlyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’but not in the sense of being good buddies.

    I disagree and I quote Kris……

On his frustration with Christians who wouldn’t accept Adam Lambert.
There [were all these rumors] about how all the conservative, Christian people that would vote for me hate Adam and never want him to win because of who he is. Oh, it was so frustrating-really bad, because we are really good friends. Why can’t everyone get along? It never made any sense for me to judge anyone, who they are. It frustrates me that people can’t get along with people because of their differences. And I’ll tell you what, especially Christians. Christians have a hard time accepting people like Adam-liberal, from L.A., looks different, maybe acts a certain way. He’s a great, great guy. They don’t even give him a chance. And it’s frustrating because I come from that. A lot of my friends are not that way, which I appreciate, but a lot of people in Arkansas or in the South or wherever are that way. We really hope that our relationship can be an inspiration to people. I could go on about that forever.

  • abbysee

I have nothing to add to the conversation except to say I am delighted at today’s events on this blog. If Mj’s was a microcosm of the world we’d be well off indeed. Acceptance of one’s self and each other is a fucking awesome joy to behold.

I am so proud to see Adam just be Adam. It’s a wonderful thing.

Now I wanna go to that club and dance and drink with all of the beautiful gay boys……

  • kate09

Kradam is for real…sorry Kris is not an actor & could not pull this off were it not true. There is serious love between those boys, & it warms my heart.

  • haruhi

Adam’s gay…and I’m a girl…Really. LOL. I knew he was gay the first time I saw him (it was during Hollywood week). I just wish the fervent interest in Adam’s sexuality (which I think is not other people’s business) would translate into actual support in his music and endeavors. Adam is extremely talented, and I hope he catapults into success.

  • colette

OK, now that’s out of the way. He’s gay, his boyfriend is cute, they hold hands in public — good for them! And is there anyone who isn’t living under a rock who did not expect this?

And what more do Kris and Adam need to do to prove that they are “really” friends? Sheesh. They’ve had more displays of heartfelt bromance than you can count. Why fake a friendship — especially one that involves warm hugs, mothers who have become BFF, lots of joshing around, and both being glad for each other?

    Good grief.

Now that we’re moving on from this, hopefull, I’m hoping we can get a grip and ditch the AT&T/TPTB/Rightwing Christian theories snatching victory from Glambert to give Kris an unearned title.

As Kris has said, “Can’t we all get along?” I know it’s more boring for the 24/7 media if we do, but let’s give it a try.

  • brin

Significant others donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t travel with them on the tour for the mostpart do they? I hope Drake remains in LA so the focus will remain on the kids on the tour and not Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s love life. Yep, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m selfish, I want the tour to be about a little thing called the music.

I’m curious why you think it would be any different with Drake, I’d bet he won’t go along on the tour just like Kris, Sarver, Lil, Matt, etc SO’s won’t? I’m happy that Adam (and all the others) have a week or two of down time where they can enjoy spending time with their family and friends before the whole Idol circus starts up again, they all certainly deserve a bit of a break after the last months in that pressure cooker, I don’t understand at all why that shouldn’t apply to Adam as well.

My feeling is that all the angry people who hate Adam and won’t buy his album because he is open about his life weren’t gonna buy his album anyway, I think the people that are fans of his music will love his music and hopefully most will be happy that he can enjoy his life outside of his music as well.

@Clearone: I’m completely with you. The genuine affection between them is palpable; you cannot fake that. If you watch those Kradam videos, their body language is more intimate than I’ve ever seen between two men, regardless if they were gay-gay, straight-straight or gay-straight. It is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

  • SpenserJ

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t buy the Kris-Adam à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“friendshipà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ exactly. Not as ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s portrayed on these threads.

I’m not sure how it’s been portrayed, but I think they’re just a couple of guys who became good friends throughout this experience.

    WAT ADAM IS NOT GAY
HE AND THAT GUY ARE JUST BAKING CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES TOGETHER
    JEEZ PPL

    lol naw
    Yay for Adam! :)
Kudos for keeping up a relationship while on AI, that’s quite a feat man.
Even more kudos for handling the media like the fierce goddamn HBIC he is.

ETA: And um, congrats to Drake for charting on Google? LOL, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing.

  • jlc

Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s boyfriend is a hottie, but needs a new name. What kind of combo name is Dradam? Adrake? I mean, really.

    Drabert (long “a”)

If Mjà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s was a microcosm of the world weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be well off indeed. Acceptance of oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s self and each other is a fucking awesome joy to behold.

^^^^This. I agree. The majority of the posts on this thread just warm the cockles of my heart. I said “cockles”, people. I know this is the Adam-thread, but get your minds out of the gutter.

logic & reason have no place in the world of a true fantard

Truer words were never spoken. You’d think my Adam-mania would be getting weaker now that the season is over, instead of stronger. But alas, my fantarding seems to know no bounds when it comes to the glittery alien.

  • clearone

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m curious why you think it would be any different with Drake, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d bet he wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t go along on the tour just like Kris, Sarver, Lil, Matt, etc SOà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t?

I don’t think it would be any different cause I don’t know how it works for SO’s in general. But if SO’s were along for the ride and Drake were to go along, I think that after watching what happened last night and today, it would be a distraction to the others on the tour. Let’s be real, are paps going to wait outside a hotel or a club to see Sarver’s wife? Uhm, no.

  • jz

    How about Lambry?
    idk.

  • kate09

    Is Sarver married…oh wait, I don’t care.

Sadly I think Sarver might be more of a problem on the tour than the paps were Drake to tag along.

I would flove to see Drake & Adam and Kris & Katy on a double date. I don’t know why but that would make me so happy.

  • DespiteMyself

Getoutta my head, kate09! I have that same little dream. From the tiny little snippets we have seen of Drake, he seems like a laid back southern boy. I think the goodness of the friendship between Adam and Kris&Katy would be an amazing thing for him to experience- that type of acceptance isn’t often seen.

    ETA: I totally vote Lambry.

  • JOJOSIE

To answer the question of who loves a gay guy, Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd were in a movie called,”The Object of My Affection”, where she falls for her roommate (who is gay). She finds herself alone and pregnant and moves in with Paul. Paul is like a lot of gay guys, kind, fun, affectionate, good looking and she wants him for her babies daddy and in their life. She is very hurt when he get a bf. Don’t remember exactly how it ends. I think gay guys are easy to love, just not to be “in” love with. I’m sure whats happening now is one of the reasons he didn’t try out for AI previously. It takes guts and a lot of confidence to open your life up to the world, especially when your sexual makeup isn’t the most common. I really wish him the best as he is the best. He certainly has stolen my heart with his mega talent, charm and gorgeous looks. I’m really too old to be a fan-girl so I’ll just leave it at that.

  • brin

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think it would be any different cause I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know how it works for SOà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in general. What I meant was that I don’t think most SOs do go along for the whole tour, I think I wasn’t being clear. I know Kris has mentioned that his wife will be coming to a few shows, and I would expect the same would apply to most of the SOs (including Drake), I can’t personally imagine wanting to follow my SO around for 3 months in a couple of crowded tour buses but I’d probably go for a few shows if they were close enough to home or somewhere fun to visit.

OOh, i kind of like Lambry.

thanks for the warning on the “cockles” I totally would have read that wrong, it is the Adam thread after all, morals automatically checked at the door right?

  • Calliope

Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s be real, are paps going to wait outside a hotel or a club to see Sarverà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s wife? Uhm, no.

I don’t think that is a fair comparison since I don’t think many people care about Sarver, one way or another. That’s if they even remember him. To be honest, I would keep on forgetting him if it wasn’t for his toolish comments.

  • twinkle

dude. adam is gonna get me kicked out of grad school. i cant get any effin work done!

maybe we could all work out a rotating schedule of googling and obsessing? because this is seriously hindering my life. or is it making it more fulfilled and ineresting? i just DONT KNOW!

up is down. down is up.

  • GeminiDolly

This is off-topic a bit but I just got to thinking…has Ricky Martin come out and said hes gay? Has he spoken about his sexuality..just wondering.

Back to topic. Adam is hot. Thats all.

  • kate09

    brin

you are correct. Morals at the door, mind in gutter, Adam on the brain.

  • jlc

    ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ The Object of My Affectionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ,

I loved this movie! I think it ends about 5 yrs after the baby is born–vaguely recall Rudd, Aniston, the BF & the little girl all at her school play…or sumthin like that….
    yup–I totally related to Aniston’s character & bawled my eyes out…(‘cept I wasn’t preggers)..

  • lambkin

Drake LaBry / Adam Lambert = LaGlam?

  • cay

Kris said his wife doesn’t want to follow him around on tour and he doesn’t blame her. He said she has a job and will go home and work. I’m sure she will visit some shows, but I don’t think she wants to follow the bus around in her own car and sit in a hotel. I think it’s healthy for the partner to have a strong, independent life. Kris and his wife seem to have a very healthy, loving relationship. Drake only moved out to LA last year and he just graduated from college. I would assume he has a job and is starting his career. I doubt he’d quit everything to follow Adam around. But I have no idea. I would think Adam will concentrate on his fans, the tour and upcoming album.

  • iluvai

Well I read all the comments. It took me FOREVER!!!! My computer has never been that slow. It was like pulling teeth, getting each itty bitty word from everybody as my computer slowly scrolled down. I guess it’s okay now. This has been a very fun and entertaining read! Well worth the agony of having my computer digest it!

On the topic of crazy obsessed fantard. This just happened. I’m having a lot of these loser mom moments lately– I’m not proud). My hubby asked if I was planning to pick up our daughter from dance. I’m like, you’re doing it! He said well we’re 15 minutes late, and I’m like you better get on it. And then he says that her friend is going to drive her home. And I still could not pull myself away!

Anyway, I’m happy for Adam. He is so confident and kind. I’m not really worried about him or his career. He is gonna be fine!!!

  • lilbrusc102

My vote is for “Lambry”! Drake is definitely a cutie. I’m glad Adam is out and about being Adam and having a good time and that people seem to be for the most part totally accepting.

  • Tess

has Ricky Martin come out and said hes gay?

funny you should ask because I looked it up, just today. No he says he is straight and has always been straight. He did have a very long term relationship with a woman…years and years. His twins…via surrogate must be close to 1 now.

  • kate09

    cay

You’re probably right about Drake staying in L.A. for most of the tour, however…I don’t even know Adam & I’ve given thought to following him around :cool1_tb:

  • clearone

I think they’re only one. They were born around the same time as Clay Aiken’s son last August.

  • Tess

Since Drake, as far as I know, is a professional interior designer and a very talented artist I don’t think he would be giving up his day job to follow Adam around. Seriously, he’s Adam’s friend not his husband or anything.

Personally, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think that the over-invested fangirls who need to believe that their AI favorite will one day be their boyfriend are all that important to a successful career. So, who cares if you lose them? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure David Cook would actually like to shed a few of those uber-fans right about now.

David Cook’s sane fans are wishing he could shed those individuals as well. They make my head ache and my eyes cringe.

On the Adam topic- I picked up on his being gay from the first time I saw him on my tv, and it hasn’t bothered me one bit. It sure as hell didn’t keep me from voting for him for 4 consecutive hours non-stop on finale night, and it’s the reason I cannot WAIT to see him in his own show.

Sadly this has dogged him for years and he has stated a number of times that he is straight that he has a large gay following and if he was gay he would not be ashamed to admit it. But the rumors persist.

    Interesting tweet from Nigel Lythgoe

I’ve just spoken to Adam. To quote a beautiful Diane Warren song, sung by Joss Stone he is “Bruised But Not Broken.” Send positive energy.

    Edit: Wrong Adam. Its Shankman.

  • lucy

Re: the Nige. Seems to me he’s more likely twittering about something that’s happened to cute old Adam Shankman, and not the Lambry boy.

Scroll down a few tweets. He’s definitely talking about something being up with A.S., who twittered him to CALL ME.
