Wow, this is brilliant! Fans were going crazy on twitter about this, it trended for a while both in the US and worldwide before the video was even out. Impressive.

The song is current, catchy, and has a great beat. Hope it’s the next single!

  • http://twitter.com/politicsislife Elizabeth Matthew

Really hope this is the next single…love it. Impossible not to get up and dance to it and can’t wait to hear the album version especially the breakdown and the bridge.  This is what I’ve been waiting to hear, the upbeat dance songs and thrilled with this one.

  • Anonymous

I love this song so much – would make such a great summer single!  Perfect song for Adam, great vocals and he’ll have so much fun performing it!

  • Anonymous

    That was fun!

  • Anonymous

It’s a booty shaker for sure!!

  • Anonymous

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!!!  It’s so Adam! I can’t stop listening to it.  This is my new favorite.  At least until I hear the next one. :)

  • Anonymous

Yippee! The crazy train is ready to roll!

  • http://twitter.com/lufflyness Jenna

I’m not really feeling the live band music, but I could hear it sounding really good with full studio production. Do we know who the producer of this song is?

  • Anonymous

I like it. Very dancey beat.  Love how Adam sings “cuckoo”. He looks and sounds great!

  • Anonymous

Good song! I hope that it is the next single!

  • Anonymous

huh, well the sound on this video really doesn’t do much for me, I guess I have to wait for the studio version. but I’m glad that new music is popping out, hopefully this means that the album itself should be along soon :)

  • Anonymous

Cuckoo finally fell off the worldwide trend list.

  • asifclueless

     Fun!!!  Fun!!!  Fun!!!
    Good beats!!!  I Wanna Dance!!!

I feel like a cuckoo clock now. Cuckoo!!! … Cuckoo!!!
My best birthday present … evah!!!

This made up for my waiting for the BD present TRESPASSING in Mapril.
    Thanks … Adam!!!

    Awesome!

And now another song from the same event is up! Chokehold!!

I don’t think you are ever going to get good sound on a you tube video and then through computer speakers but for me it sounds great and can’t wait to hear it alive.  A lot also depends on the device used for the recording and that may have not been the greatest either.  Would love to hear this sung on AI when he performs.  The second song Chokehold is coming up in minutes and Trespassing probably won’t be until morning.   Since there is a 6 song setlist, there will probably be videos also for IIHY and Fever but not WWFM according to the person who took the video.

Nobody can sell a song like Adam when he does full performances.  Also, it was tweeted that Anoop was in the audience and also took pictures and I believe somebody else was taking videos.  Since he is not keeping the songs secret there must be a reason for allowing videos to be taken and I am sure he knew they were.  Cuckoo is one of the ones the UK was excited about and this may be their new song.

    Here is Chokehold.

His music is so LAAAAME… unlike his voice which is good, why is he doing P!nk lite music, when he could be doing more with his talent.

  • Anonymous

That’s really smooth. It’s got a Justin Timerlake vibe to it while obviously still being an Adam song that is cool and interesting. If that even makes sense. The sexy undertone is hot and his voice in the breakdown is perfect.

  • Anonymous

I love Chokehold. Saw on twitter that Trespassing will be up in about 90 min.

  • asifclueless

    Even better  CHOKEHOLD

     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvVvGJbv9QA&feature=youtu.be

    Enjoy!!!

  • Anonymous

    Chokehold is now trending worldwide.

  • Anonymous

Wow, I’m really digging his new music!  I think Chokehold is the song he said had sort of a 90s Depeche Mode vibe.  I totally get that.

  • asifclueless

Ooops … Sorry to duplicate the chokehold video.
I type very slowly … heh.

This is the first time we heard his new songs. Adam will make them better and better the more he sings and performs them live.
No song is too lame for Adam.

This summer is going to be fun with lots of dancey beats songs from TRESPASSING.

Can we skip spring?  No, we can’t. I’m waiting for Mapril!!!!

  • cwm

I’m loving the new songs!! Fantastic. Wow what an unexpected treat!! I can’t believe our great fortune – Adam’s fans are going crazy tonight!

Trespassing is processing now and will be here when ready:

OMG! I just saw the video for Cuckoo and I am loving this song. I see why the British music critics were loving the previews, this song is so much fun. It sounds like from twitter, that there is a lot of people out that agree with me. I can’t wait to see him perform this song on tv. You can tell he’s loving his music, because he was totally shaking his ass to it. I can’t wait for the album now.

  • Anonymous

I love Cuckoo but I loved Chokehold even more. Now give me ”Underneath” Adam:)

  • Meynard Bonoen

I’m also a fan of Adam songs but, this time around I want to give the credit to Kris Allen’s new single “The Vision of Love”. Check it out also for variety, feel good and fresh music..

    Thrilled with the new songs!

  • Anonymous

Cuckoo is amazing, Chokehold… not so much.

  • musicality

I like Cuckoo a lot. The sound quality on the video for Chokehold was poor but even so it has a vibe to it I like. Sounds like it will be a good CD

  • YankeeFan08

What a treat to wake up to these!  Thanks MJ!  Cuckoo is such a fun song (love Adam’s dancing).  All aboard … the crazy train is ready to roll!

Chokehold is awesome.  I agree that it’s got a Justin Timberlake vibe to it.  Can’t wait for this album. Hurry up Maypril!!

  • Anonymous

Try adjusting the video to HD? It sounds looks fine to me but the band (especially the drums) is overpowering the soft vocal style he was going for in the song.

  • asifclueless

    Right now I’m loving Chokehold.
Listen to it a few times. Fun!  Pop! Love Adam’s dance move.

“Bringing it on back….”  is catchy.

I may change my mind again and again when new songs are out.

Chokehold is my fave, right now even though the audio from the video is not good. The drums are too loud. Studio version and seeing Adam live on tour will be great.

    “BRINGIN IT ON BACK …. ”  :)

  • musicality

If the person recording it was too close to the speakers it will distort the sound. I’ll adjust it and check it out. I like it though.

  • http://twitter.com/MoriaPolonius Moria Polonius

    Awesome songs, seriously!!!

Before my GNT concert, I was all “but can he live up to the expectations, will it be worth travelling so far” and the doubts were gone two minutes after Adam opened his mouth. I felt a bit like that with the new songs, Cuckoo has been so praised that I thought that even if other people like it, I might not. Buuut they’re great, yaaay!!!

In Cuckoo, I definitely hear what’s been said about the 70s disco meeting… erk, whatever else, I forgot, but it IS reminiscent of that time. Dancey!

Chokehold has great vocals and there’s that funky (?) swing, i love it, so sexy. I You just can’t help but move your body slowly to the grove, awesome. The chorus “I keep running away running away running away from you” is so singable, and it has the signature Adam soft vocalization at the very end. Love it!

  • Anonymous

Wow, Chokehold great!  Also, can’t wait to here the studio versions of the songs.

  • Anonymous

Cuckoo’s much better than BTIKM. It would be nice if they would let that song die already and let Adam do one of the newer songs when he returns to Idol. Otherwise it’s a real waste of some prime promo.

  • musicality
  • Emmy

Wow, I love both of them – Cuckoo is so 80s, Chokehold is so 90s and Trespassing is so 70s – but all are so fresh. Dayum, HOW MUCH LONGER TIL MAPRIL ADAM???

  • koshka

After watching these it makes me ?? confuzled about why BTIKM was picked. If they were to pick a mid tempo song, why not Chokehold?

If RCA was an artist it would have been cut loose from its contract a long time ago. Whoever is making these selections is over thinking it. Just like Kelly’s MKIA – it may have done well on the charts, but it is an annoying song and I think it needed some heavy weight pushing to get it to take off. It they had just started with Stronger then things would have moved along with much less time, energy & money expended. This feels like a rinse, repeat episode, only Adam doesn’t have the benefit of having a decade of success. I hope this isn’t their M.O. moving forward.

  • http://twitter.com/MyEyesBabyEyes Judy

Love the new songs,I was chair dancing to both ! Can’t wait to hear them blasting in my car !

  • cwm

Loving all three songs! Each has a different vibe, but all 3 are very strong songs. YAY!!! Can’t wait for that album!

  • Anonymous

ohhhh…. they absolutely must go with Trespassing as the next single!
That song is so kick-ass, oh my god!
Imagined Adam singing Trespassing in American Idol… that would be insane!
    Now I’m excited!

  • http://twitter.com/MoriaPolonius Moria Polonius

After watching these it makes me ?? confuzled about why BTIKM was picked. If they were to pick a mid tempo song, why not Chokehold?

It could have been because Chokehold wasn’t ready, but I think it’s been becaue of 1) the lyrics – Chokehold sounds darker than BTIKM and 2) BTIKM has that tiny bit of r&b flavor in the verse that they might have thought radio would respond to.

I like Chokehold way better than BTIKM, but then I liked almost anything on FYE better than WWFM and especially IIHY, so it’s not like what fans love the most is necessarily the best radio choice. There’s no way of telling whether Chokehold would climb the charts faster than BTIKM had it been released as a first single in the same circumstances.

  • mmb

Love the new songs ( no surprise). Like btikm too but agree with virtually every who has heard the album sampler etc that there are much better tracks. Agree that he should sing a different, preferably uptempo song on idol ( whenever that will be). But this is RCA we are talking about – even if there are better options they are never going to move on to another single as long as btikm is increasing spins and getting added by new stations at hac. Which it is ( several new
    spinners this week). Sigh.

  • Anonymous

MKIA (which I like alot) has sold over 1.3 million downloads and is still going strong. So whatever “push” RCA gave it paid off in spades.  If that was the plan with BTIKM it hasn’t worked out. And both these songs are much better so RCA continues to confuzzle me as well.

  • koshka

Well very true. I’m not one of those fans who thinks they should go with fan choices.. its just BTIKM is light weight in comparison. I actually like BTIKM, I just think its not of debut strength. I’m sure that R&B taste is what prompted it as a selection. From what we’ve heard so far I think BTIKM doesn’t really fit as a “representative” piece to the rest of the album. IDK.

Like I said, I think RCA was just thinking too hard about their selections.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Ok I just woke up and saw this and haven’t had enough coffee yet to start flailing! lol. I want to wait until the album comes out but I just can’t!

  • koshka

RCA.. “come on guys keep pushing that boulder over the hill! We’ll get to the top eventually”  LOL “Its much more fun this way.. just wait and see”

  • Anonymous

That was mmb’s point, the push worked for Kelly but not for Adam even though neither is necessarily a perfect fit for CHR, the main chart that sells. It could be b/c MKIA is just a better song or it could be b/c Kelly is Kelly and she’s a decade long established artist and Adam isn’t. It could be a combination of both. Either way, the main point was that MKIA was a slow burner while if they’d led with Stronger, it would have been a quicker build for the album initially. It strategy seemed similar between the two artists, but it only worked out significantly for one.

  • Anonymous

I love all these songs. Beats the heck of anything I’ve heard recently.

  • mmb

Cuckoo may be a single eventually but my guess is that RCA goes with the Bruno song, never close our eyes, as the next single. Someone at RCA must really believe in btikm bc they seem bound and determined to stick with it. Are the promo efforts paying off? In general they seem to be at hac. Most of the stations he has visited have added the song or are at least playing it ( not all, but most). At chr? Not so much although a few stations have added and are playing it. I still think they will release a second single around before the cd drops. But for better or worse they are sticking to btikm like glue

  • Anonymous

The problem is than fans are swayed by their own taste too much, whereas the professionals at the lablel are supposed to know best, but in practice they make mistakes.  They seem to go for singles that tick the right boxes over those that they have a catchy hook or more substance.

I suppose that good A&Rs have a feel for songs that are both good and marketable, whereas others just go for songs that have the right characteristics.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kaya-Burke/100002926607733 Kaya Burke

Many, many thanks to the uploader and the people who brought the videos here!

I’m heartened to see that Cuckoo and Trespassing have been written to
fit Adam’s natural swagger and inclination for over the top vocals.

Chokehold is a catchy tune, but I think he has the karaoke syndrome on
this one.  He sounds like a karaoke bar singer trying to sing a Justin
    Timberlake song.

    Overall, pretty good new music.

  • Anonymous

Oh man. I LOVE these new songs!

I have given up trying to understand why RCA makes the decisions it does. I mean, I think maybe I get what they were trying to do. But, when you have songs that are clearly more “radio,” and, specifically, CHR…

I still think they will release NCOE sometime in the next few weeks; and I think the fact that Adam did not play this song goes along with this.

Anyway SO excited to finally hear new music. And new uptempo music!

  • Anonymous

New angle from Cuckoo, more keyboards in this audio I think.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uk4DsfESSQ

‘Gonna party till they take us away…’  Great hook

and I really like the ‘Bring on Back, Bring it on Back’ part of Chokehold.

    RCA I hate you ;)

  • Anonymous

This is the Adam that I was hoping would emerge.  It’s the artist I saw buried during the entire run at AI.  From the hair, to the attitude, to the style of music,  – just well…..everything…E.V.E.R.Y.thing.

So glad to see it, worried it might be buried forever.  Obviously not.

    Could. NOT. behappier.

  • Kirsten

Is Cucko the next single? It’s miles better than BTIKM. As they used to say on American Bandstand, “It’s got a beat and you can dance to it”. It has a great hook and some lines that would be fun to sing along with (“I want to lose my mind, like a maniac, and cross the line). The only thing I’m not wild about is the cuckoo-clock “Cuckoo”, but that probably sounds great on a recording and would be something the kids could latch on to (and won’t seem so silly once somebody from the label tells Adam he looks like an idiot being so literal and pointing at his head while he makes a crazy face).

Chokehold is fine, but it will never be a hit on the radio. If Adam’s album is full of dance hits, this song will make a pleasant recovery song in between some of them.

In other news, is the drummer shirtless? I sometimes think that those aquariums they build around the drummers have more reasons than to just stop sound-bleed. Drummers tend to be a strange lot.

  • Anonymous

The drummer is shirtless, yes. Drummers often take their shirts off b/c they exert a lot of energy and heat when playing so it’s easier to just start with as much air as possible. Issac (drummer here) and Adam’s previous drummer both partake in the practice as much as possible.

  • Anonymous

I prefer my drummers to be shirtless, don’t want them to overheat, especially if they have a good body, like Issac and LP.

  • Anonymous

yes, Isaac is usually shirtless. lol

Let’s hope Roger Taylor keeps his shirt on for Sonisphere though. Sorry Roger, no offense.

Here’s the Cuckoo lyrics if anyone wants them

    http://www.twitlonger.com/show/gb2kjf

  • YankeeFan08

I don’t think any of these songs will be the next single although I would love for it to be Cuckoo.  IMO I don’t think Adam would have leaked these songs if any were in contention for the next single.  My money is on the Bruno Mars collab.

I can’t wait to hear these songs with better sound quality.

I think Adam’s facial expressions in Cuckoo are adorable!  I love that he’s so literal.  It’s way better than some singers who just make unattractive faces when they sing and think that’s what you call stage presence.  LOL

Isaac rarely wears a shirt when performing.  Hey, if you’ve got it flaunt it.

  • Kirsten

Isaac rarely wears a shirt when performing.  Hey, if you’ve got it flaunt it.

That’s probably the real reason they do it. Drummers almost always have great upper bodies because it’s a real work out. LOL. Otherwise, they would just wear sweat wicking shirts.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Cool new songs!  Cuckoo is a fun song and I liked Chokehold on first listen.  I think that I’m going to like Adam’s new music.  :)

  • Anonymous

I had to drag myself away from the Cuckoo video and I listened to Chokehold. This album going to be full of songs that really grab your attention and are memorable. I like Chokehold because it’s darker than BTIKM and it’s going to sound great whether it’s live or recorded. I think that’s one lesson Adam learned from the first album, which was to record songs that will fit on the stage and be able to sing it live without a problem.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ashetalia-Staatz/100001792695528 Ashetalia Staatz

All three songs are great, and all three are better than btikm. Cuckoo would make an excellent single, so I hope they go with it.

  • Anonymous

I really love all three. Cuckoo is so easy to like. I think the “goona party ’til they take us away” after the stop is genius”. But I am also really digging the groove of chokehold.

  • Anonymous

Cuckoo is great and if they are intent on having the Bruno song be the next single after BTIKM it would be a good song to release as the third single around New Years eve party time kind of like the Ke$ha song a few years back.  I can see a club full of people dancing to it on New Years Eve.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

The idiot who chose BTIKM over “Cuckoo” is on CRACK.  And they still must be smoking it because they keep trying to push that dead horse up a hill.

Adam obviously has some great dance songs on this new album, RELEASE THOSE NOW FOR FU***CK’S SAKE!!!!

  • Anonymous

I am loving these songs and I just can’t wait to hear the studio versions! Are you listening Adam??

Lots of singles choices on this album.  Can’t wait for it to come out!

Holy guacamole!!!! Love, love, love the new songs!!!!! This album is going to kick ass!!! The vibe on Chokehold is killer! Sexy, sexy song!!! And that breathing bit on Trespassing, ayayayi!!!

LOVE THIS ;-) He is awesome :)

  • Anonymous

In order, this is how I like the songs, based on the live recordings (studio versions of course, could change my ratings):1 Chokehold
    2 Trespassing
3 Cuckoo:   not seeing what you’all are seeing in this one.    :-)

  • Listening

I just want to say if Adam and his Team go w/ a Bruno Mars song make sure it’s actually the best song and you’re not going for it b/c it has a popular name attached to it b/c that could mess you up. I feel that’s what happened to The Last Goodbye they choice that for David Cook’s first single and I believe it was largely b/c Ryan Tedder helped write it but in actuality it wasn’t the best song on his album. I don’t think it got as many fans back as some of his other songs could of so don’t fall in love w/ the idea of a big name being involved w/ a song make sure it IS the absolutely best song on it’s own merits.

  • Anonymous

Chokehold my favorite out of these, radio friendly I do believe

  • Anonymous

I am loving the vibe of Chokehold. It sounds SO current.

I really want to hear the studio versions now.

My son is a drummer and he is not strange? :) buff yes from banging those drums and they do get super hot and sweaty

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Have you heard the demo for the Bruno song?  It’s out there if you google it.  No longer on YouTube.  It’s REALLY good.  Dance song.  Kinda sounds like a rave.  Adam will sound great on it.

  • ronnie

First, he looks amazing.  I like that British boy band outfit he has on, I think he looks good in it.  His voice sounds good and he is a great performer.  The songs, however, are very mediocre and nothing outstanding or memorable.  Cuckoo starts off interesting, but it doesn’t really have a great chorus to it, it’s not catchy.  I have heard “Trespassing” before and it’s just as awful here as it was then.  The lyrics are particularly terrible- “that’s when I climbed that optimistic vine”- substandard, embarrassing.  These songs have no sense of melody- the most interesting one is “Chokehold,” it at least goes some places the other two do not and sounds a bit like okay album filler but nothing really impressive.  None of these songs are hits, which it seems like RCA figured out long ago.  BTIKM is better than these songs, which is why I think they released it as the single, and that song itself isn’t very good.  “Never Close Our Eyes,” as bland and tuneless as it is, is a better choice of single than what we have here so I do think it will be the next single, but it certainly won’t be a big hit.  All in all, I’m very disappointed in this and am thinking twice about purchasing it at all.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I like Cuckoo a lot, and Chokehold sounded good. On the fence with Trespassing, need to hear the recorded version. I like the first two more than BTIKM by a mile.

Please but out the next single RCA so we can get to the good stuff!

  • mmb

Absolutely love the uptempo/dance version of the Bruno song demo that’s floating around. Total earworm. Can’t get it out of my head. But I have parts of cuckoo and chokehold stuck in my head now too. It’s getting crowded

  • http://twitter.com/Zowie_Cat Zowie

This was actually a magazine party (JEZABEL Magazine in Atlanta) as opposed to a radio event. (the radio statio gave away some tickets to fans & it was announced very last minute.)

I think it was smart of Adam to try out some of the new material in front of a primarily non-fan crowd. He didn’t seem to mind people recording either, so I bet he’ll be perusing the web today for the reaction :)

  • Nele621

and won’t seem so silly once somebody from the label tells Adam he looks like an idiot being so literal and pointing at his head while he makes a crazy face

Do labels really get that involved in their artist’s performances?

You can’t even hear the rest of the band, other than the drummer, in these videos. And the sound is weird.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_WIHKL34XDORTS2UZP4SWUUTG3U randi

the new songs are great.  Adam really seems to have known exactly what he wanted and he’s achieved it.  All three songs sound radio friendly and any of them could be a potential single.  Personally chokehold is my favorite but trespassing is so earwormy and addictive that I can’t get it out of my head.

  • Anonymous

I love that he’s so literal.  It’s way better than some singers who just
make unattractive faces when they sing and think that’s what you call
    stage presence.  LOL

I so agree.  The gaping mouth that some adopt is particularly nasty-looking to me.  Would love for their label or someone to tell them to please close their yap. lol

Still loving these songs the next day.  Now I understand all those rave reviews from the UK.  :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kaya-Burke/100002926607733 Kaya Burke

I’ve heard Bruno’s demo a long while ago.  As a Bruno fan, I was incensed that it did not make his album and was hoping that it would make an official appearance on his next album.  I do not think that Never Close Our Eyes is a good fit for Adam at all.  It is a Bruno Mars song through and through, stylistically, lyrically and melody.

  • Anonymous

Wow. All those UK reviewers were right, these songs are amazing. Can’t wait to hear them on the album!

Nice crowd response since it wasn’t a radio party, they only gave out a few tickets, it was s magazine launch.party. lots of tweets preshow about not knowing what to expect and lots of surprised kudos after.

So happy and can’t wait to buy the album.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Really?  It’s a great song but would have seemed totally out of place on Doo Wop and Hooligans.

ETA: Maybe there is more than one version out there. The one I’m hearing is very electro rave-y.

  • mmb

There were two different demos of ncoe. One was very Bruno, the other a more uptempo dance song that is stylistically unlike anything he has ever done himself and would never have fit on his cd. The uptempo is very Adam. I suspect you heard the eArlier demo

  • newinNM

It’s always a good morning when I get Adam with my coffee! ;) He looks so good, happy and healthy and SKINNY!

Cuckoo – LOVE this one, next single please, the video would be wild, I wanna see Adam in a straight jacket being taken away acting all OTT crazy.

Chokehold - It took me a couple of listens, but I like it as well, very catchy, “bring it on back, bring it back”, like this one the more I hear it.  LOL at the little girls “oh my gash, oh my gash” at the end.

Trespassing – I agree with someone who said earlier that the band was just a little off, but really like this one.

Agree with others that the Bruno song will likely be the next single, interesting that if it is, both singles will be ones NOT written by Adam, makes me wonder why, did he only get the Bruno song if it was used as a single?  Is it that much  better the Cuckoo, which IMHO is amazing! Oh well, not gonna worry about it, what will be will be, so far I like everything I’ve heard from the album,so I think I’ll really enjoy it, that is if I every get to hear it!

  • Anonymous

There were a couple versions of NCOE out there at some point. The most recent one is VERY dancey/uptempo. And Adam and Bruno were both in the studio collaborating last week, so it has probably been changed-up even more. I am excited to hear the final version.

These audience vids always sound a little off, which, in this case, has me even more pumped.  If these songs sound so good from an audience recording, I can’t imagine how powerful they’re going to be on the studio release or when I (hopefully!) see them in person.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BTBLQCZR7Y7LHV5BFYKYW5UQ6Q Aden

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE CHOKEHOLD!!!

  • Nele621

A little off? You can’t even hear the band. No matter where you record from, you can always hear the band in fan videos. Sometimes even overpowering the singer.

Looks like Adam might be a pretty good dancer. Better than any idols I’ve seen.

  • http://twitter.com/wanermania k w

I feel as if Adam has me in in a “Chokehold” waiting for his album “Trespassing”, and it is driving me a little “Cuckoo”  !!!

  • Anonymous

Aw, if you were a fan before, that’s a bummer for you.  Maybe you’ll like some of the less dancey songs on the other half of the album?  I’m absolutely LOVING what I’m hearing and will likely be buying more than one copy (a physical CD for my car and a download for the I-Pod).  The new stuff seems to have a lot of fun attitude, and I can’t wait to walk my dog and hit the elliptical with these songs setting my pace!

  • Anonymous

I am now officially addicted to Chokehold! What a sexy, moody, sway your body vibe! Now I am even more excited for this album and I didn’t think that was possible. Does anyone have a good indication of the Chokehold lyrics?
So far I just love everything I’ve heard from this album and can see why those UK reviewers were so excited. And we haven’t heard the others they were raving about like Broken English and Underneath. Adam just release this album already!

  • Anonymous

I can hear the band, just not as clearly as when I’m at his live performances because the sound is muffled, likely due to the fact that the vid was taken by someone out in the audience.  I think the songs will sound great recorded, and he and his band are always amazing live and in person.

  • Anonymous

I can’t wait to hear the produced versions of these songs, Trespassing is the least favorite of mine live, just because I don’t think the band is having an easy time recreating the bass line. It may as well be the acoustic version.

Cuckoo is a total ear worm.  “Gonna party till they take us away…’

  • Anonymous

Chokehold is absolutely gorgeous and becomes more addictive with each listen.  The DM vibe is killing me.  I just love it.  I’m so happy. :)

Song preference is subjective, so I couldn’t possibly disagree with you. Pop songs are not known for their superb lyrics, and I don’t believe that these songs stand out lyrically, one way or another. My take is that all three are superior to btikm–less dated sounding, catchier, more interesting.

  • justshootme

I’ve really liked everything I’ve heard from this album so far. I’m pretty sure I’m gonna love it even more than FYE.  Can’t wait for the produced versions.  Good stuff.

  • Anonymous

    I am addicted to Chokehold!

This may be the most current sounding song I have ever heard Adam sing. Why was this not the first single, if they had to go mid-tempo? It is a superior song on every level.

I have come to the conclusion that RCA made a deal with Claude/Luke

  • Anonymous

Three terrific songs – especially Chokehold – aural heaven.
Voice, beauty, grace – nothing like Lambert live.

    GM/Afternoon!

What a surprise to wake up to!

I am a crazy Brit and am Cuckoo for Cuckoo-suits my sensibilities. A big hit for him. Love it when he says ‘Cuckoo’  oh yeah! Aways wanted Adam to go ‘insane’ with his songs. I  believe that the album will sound slightly different to what we are hearing now.

The other pop sounds are fabulous. I am already humming them as I work.I am pleased he does not sound like anybody else just Adam.I know critics will have a hay day-its all good. If you are not talked about good/bad you might as well not exist:-)

Thanks Adam I am Chokehold on Cuckoo and will be Trespassing if you dont mind:-)

    Regards

The most surprising thing I have learned at MJs, and it was a hard lesson, is that not everyone will love the songs that I love.  I personally just love all three of these songs a lot.  Like most, I am frustrated that RCA put out BTIK when they obviously had far cooler, edgier choices.  I am glad they gave themself time to rectify their mistake and relaese a new single before album drops.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ashetalia-Staatz/100001792695528 Ashetalia Staatz

Lyrics for Chokehold, Trespassing on Twitter can be found here. I don’t know how accurate they are :D

    Chokehold http://www.twitlonger.com/show/gba45a
    Trespassing http://www.twitlonger.com/show/gban14

Also, idk if I’m allowed to link those. If not, sorry in advance.

  • ronnie

So he uses the “f” word in Cuckoo- is that supposed to make it edgy?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ashetalia-Staatz/100001792695528 Ashetalia Staatz

As an ex-Bronx resident who uses the “f” word at least once a sentence in daily conversation, I didn’t even note that. They’ll probably replace it with “gosh darn it” on radio :D

  • Anonymous

Freaking LOVE Chokehold – sounds modern, sophisticated and complex to me. And his vocals really shine. Honestly not too sure about Cuckoo and Trespassing – they are kinda fun but they are both a bit cheesy and simplistic, IMO. They could get pretty annoying after a while. I also don’t think they are very melodic or particularly flattering to his voice. I know I’m probably the odd man out here. Hoping there will be more songs like Chokehold on the album…

  • Anonymous

Not sure why anyone would think it would.  I mean, F*ck You has it every other sentence, and I don’t recall anyone calling it edgy.

  • Anonymous

    My guess

    1. Deal with Claude/Luke first and foremost
    2. They would never release a single called Chokehold for Adam, just as they’ll probably never release Naked Love as a single for the same reason. Doesn’t matter that either is sexual in subject matter.

  • Anonymous

    nah, rhymes better than damn.

  • Miss Chaos

I love everyone of these songs.  My favorite changes every five minutes.  I see nothing wrong with BTIKM being released in Dec.  It let people know he has a album and new songs coming out, and the AWSOME video, I just love that video.

I think they released these songs last nite like they did, lets Adam work on them live, and they all can judge on which one to release, if any of them are in contention.  I really do not want the Bruno Mars song to be next, as someone said, I dont want the only reason for Adam to have a Top Ten hit is because of Bruno, who (whispers) I dont really like.
These are dancy pop songs that Adam loves, but this summer we will have ROCK songs from Adam and Queen, so best of both worlds for me.
Quick comments on the songs, I think Trespassing was a little too fast, agreed they were a little out of sync.  I LOVE Chokehold, so sexy, had JLo’s goosys while listening to it.  Cuckoo is a great groovy song, you can sing along to it, which makes a hit, people like singing along to songs, which I think is a big downfall for a lot of Adams songs because no one but Adam can sing them with out sounding stupid, lol.  Will Cuckoo have an Explict warning??  heeHee

  • Axxxel

I guess Adam Lambert will be one of the rare artists who will have more success in selling albums than individual songs…

  • iani

Cuckoo-is that supposed to make it edgy?

    Neah, more humanly realistic.
I like the songs, Chokehold is very radio-friendly, Cuckoo and Trespassing good tour-songs, I would like some hands drum-beat for Trespassing live- performances, I think it would be great.

The idiot who chose BTIKM over “Cuckoo” is on CRACK.  And they still
must be smoking it because they keep trying to push that dead horse up a
    hill.

He should be fired and pay the damages for the single-selection and strategies, lol.

  • Anonymous

I think it’s way too soon to tell. But I’m all for good album numbers!

  • Anonymous

Honestly, I think the crappy sound mix (probably the venue) makes it difficult to tell what Cuckoo and Trespassing will really sound like. But, Chokehold is just killer.

  • oqwerd

omg words cannot describe how much i love trespassing. chokehold is lovely, and cuckoo is also super fun. but wow trespassing… throwback man. so good…definitely will be my jam when the album comes out.

Absolutely love these new songs, and the quality coming across my computer is not good.   Adam is a live performer and he just has to step on stage to give us that promise that his concert will be awesome.  I cannot wait to get this album and play it over and over again.   BTIKM is a beautiful song, and the video is one of the best I have ever seen, so not sure why it isn’t doing better.

  • http://www.realitywithoutapologies.blogspot.com/ lisakn

I’ve always loved Adam. Love these songs..all of them.

  • Avari

All three of these new songs are freaking fabulous. I didn’t include any exclamation marks because I would have run out of space. :)

I have never really been able to get on the BTIKM train (even though I adore the lulzy/hawt video). It is interesting that Adam did NOT perform BTIKM last night.

I think you mean neither song is about sex, correct? (according to interviews Adam has given.)

  • seashellz51

I love Cuckoo! Its a fun, poppy, song. The video could be insane for it! Chokehold, I love more every time I listen. Trespassing is hard to tell here. One thing I know with Adam is that his live performances bring so much more to any song. He will change and perfect each one. This is the first time out of the gate singing these to a non-glambert crowd and it looks like the crowd was into them. Many tweets today from people there raving they loved what they heard. Anyways, its all subjective but I personally am more than thrilled with what I am hearing here. Rock on Adam and keep being your fabulous self.

It’s ok. when I don’t care for something, I don’t even bother checking it out. So at least Adam got you to spend a minute or two checking his music out. Oh wait..did you actually listen to it before you comment on it?

I personally LOVE all three songs!!! It’s going to be a GREAT album. Is MAPRIL here yet? Can’t wait to buy some to share with all my friends and family!

I bought Adam’s first album and I loved it….and yes I listened to all the songs before commenting….not EVERYONE has to love everything Adam does…it was an opinion…deal

  • koshka

I very much enjoyed all 3. I’m really interested to hear what the production is like on the recorded versions. I suspect that these songs could use some back tracking. As many contemporary pop songs, they are just constructed that way.. for instance there is a definite hint of a dubstep. I’d love to see how these all play out. I wonder when he’s had time to practice with the band lately.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHIRO4P2ZPNQFGMK5KR57VH3E4 Nanc

Thank you!!! I was a fan before so that is why this is so disappointing…there is absolutely nothing wrong with Adam’s voice, but these songs are crap..appreciate the mature response…

I HATE SCREAMING VIDEOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I can’t really have an opinion yet-stupid old ladies screaming their heads off (nothing against old ladies of course lol have to blame someone)

PLEASE vids with no screaming or the album-thankyousomuch god
and an hour late i saw on facebook that my local radio station said they were interviewing adam and i missed it UGH

  • koshka

LOL Luv what are you considering old? I heard the audience was 30-ish folks.

  • Anonymous

And I will close this thread if it becomes contentious. Bannings are next.

  • Trina

Teenagers consider 30 “old” LOL Sad but true.

Luv, just a little FYI. But the day might come many years from now where you’ll find yourself to be an old lady who gets excited over an entertainer younger, and theres absolutely nothing wrong with that. I use to laugh at my mom who was in her 30′s and still screamed for the Beatles, now i’m that age and i understand it YMMV.

  • Anonymous

Adam co-wrote all three of these new songs, correct?  For me, he’s a much stronger writer than a lot of those who are touted as singer/songwriters.  Maybe it just boils down to musical tastes, but still, I’m very impressed.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_MV64BS4FSISCASL4P656RXAFYQ Kayla

Oh right the old ladies meme, I dunno about that, I’m certainly not old and I adore Adam. The lovely Lady R who was at this event and ninja’d these vids for us (memorably captured saying omgosh omgosh omgosh LOL) is in her mid twenties. Plus this relaunch party for Jezebel Mag only gave away a handful of tickets to radio call in fans anyway, most of the attendees were not Adam fans and were just there for the superfun party. And from all the excited tweets during and after the party, they loved Adam.

    Party pics:

eh, it’s ok. I think these will no doubt sound much different produced.

I can hear where the dub step breakdown will go in Cuckoo.  What is it you don’t like? Not rock enough? TSP isn’t my favorite, but I think Chokehold will be my jam. Although it’s not an single contender.  I find it much more sophisticated musically than anything on FYE, maybe a little more like Voodoo, which is one of my favorites.

“I keep running away, running away..” so stuck in my head.

There’s a few songs on FYE that I’d probably put in the crap pile (at least album track throwaways) before these three. Which ones on FYE are your favorites?

  • Anonymous

This was a magazine launch for a publication that is targeting 18-30 year olds. That was the demographic that this magazine invited to this launch party. You are hearing the screaming of young adults. It’s a live performance with a full band. There were free drinks, a young crowd and dance music. That is why you hear screaming.

It’s a live performance, it happens.

I was a fan before so that is why this is so disappointing…

Since you didn’t like FYE either, why is this new music disappointing? Were you expecting Adam to do something completely different from his first album?

What type of music are you expecting from Adam? Rock music?

  • Anonymous

    Just an after Thought!

Personally I think that if Adam has not appealed to younger/millennials non-fans in the past he will with Cuckoo big time! Yes, We have not heard the whole sound yet to make final judgement-just a feeling.

But intuitively if I was RCA this is the song that will take Adam to the top! They should stop been so tentative! Love BTIKM but double up with Cuckoo please and ASAP! Too many exclamation marks-but for Adam needed LOl;-))

OH! something strikes me that the video for Cuckoo will bring all kindsof cuckoo awesomeness!

I like Chokehold a lot. Trespassing and Cuckoo I’m not so sure of. I think I may like the album tracks better than the live ones for those two.

  • Avari

Awww, it’s OK luv! We know what you meant.

I’m weird though. I love listening/watching vids where the audience is clearly going insane; I don’t care if it means I can’t hear the song. And it’s even better when the screaming is coming from all ages.

  • Anonymous

I see nothing wrong with BTIKM being released in Dec.  It let people know he has a album and new songs coming out, and the AWSOME video, I just love that video.

Amen.  If BTIKM hadn’t been released as a single, we’d never have gotten the video, and I love the video.  Same with FYE.  One cool thing about Adam is that he uses his videos  to enhance and expand the song — something Madonna and Michael Jackson did with their videos.  So, even if BTIKM isn’t burning up the charts, it’s well worth having it as a first single to set up the theme of the album, and to let us flail at the cool video and obsess about the imagery… and the sweater.

    It’s all about the cardigan.

Chokehold  -Can’t get enough of it … addictive …catchy … Bring it on back … Bring it on back …  :)

I keep repeating it.  Borrow the gushing words of the girl at the end of the video … Oh My Gosh … Oh My Gosh … Oh My Gosh … OH MY GOSH !!!

I’ll listen to Cuckoo and Trespassing more and compare.
All 3 songs are on my ipod already. Audio is not quite good, but good enough to last me till I get the albums in Mapril.

Where did you get the idea that I didn’t like FYE….I never said that

    From this comment you made:

“Adam had stated that this next CD would be more “dark”, with more of a rock edge and vibe to it…based on this snippet this looks like FYE 2.0 which I won’t purchase if it is…

    and this one:

“hopefully his new cd will have more diversity on it…not so much dance/electro/pop….this sounds like more of the same”

Am I missing something in these comments that says that you liked FYE?

  • greenamber

Oh, dear. These sound awful. Hopefully it’s just that the live versions haven’t been perfected yet. I’ve really been looking forward to the album but the more I hear, the more I’m afraid it that being his own exec producer was a really bad idea.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_IHIRO4P2ZPNQFGMK5KR57VH3E4 Nanc

I did like FYE….but I was hoping for more rock from him…FYE’s songs were very catchy, but they were mostly dance music…Adam’s voice is so strong I hate to see  him limited to one genre, and these songs are bland, they don’t grab me like the ones on FYE did

  • Anonymous

BC Jean actually commented positively on his songwriting skills, as did one of the guys with whom he worked on FYE.  I, unfortunately, can’t remember who is was … Greg Wells, maybe, or Ryan Tedder?  At any rate, whoever it was said something along the lines that he was surprised to find that Adam, in addition to being a talented singer, was also a good song writer.  Now it’s gonna bug me who it was, so I have to go delving…

  • Anonymous

Adam has stated all along he wasn’t going to do rock, that he was aiming for pop.  It’s not really surprising that there is more dance/pop on the second album.  Personally I like what I have heard so far, but am waiting on actual studio versions, or a better audio than a cell phone before judging.

  • ronnie

I listened to these songs many times hoping I would start to like them, but it’s just not working.  It’s a shame his fantastic voice is wasted on these mediocre songs.  And these are supposed to be the better songs on the album!  I can’t imagine what the ones they said didn’t stand out are going to sound like.

  • Anonymous

Adam isn’t going to do rock. You can go see him in the UK sing with Queen, because that is as close as he is going to get to rock.

The songs you mentioned liking on FYE weren’t rock. Your comment said that you wouldn’t purchase this album if the songs sound like the ones on FYE, but then you say that you liked FYE and listen to it quite a bit. You don’t like dance music, but you liked IIHY and Strut the best from FYE?

    These comments contradict each other.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Carol-Baligush/100002202840824 Carol Baligush

What a sweetheart Adam is!  He’s so good with kids!

  • Anonymous

I think that if one is disinclined to like pop, especially the current style, odds are they aren’t going to like it no mater who is singing it. All you can do is wait and hear the finished product.  If it’s still not your cuppa, you just move on until the next time.  Styles change all the time.

  • Anonymous

You’ve already heard it- it was BTIKM. They loved the other ones, including these three you just heard. Of course, they probably heard an actual recording of these songs, not a video from a cell phone! lol

  • Anonymous

You might find you like them better in studio form, and, remember, last night was the first time he had performed two of them — in a venue that seemed to have had bad mixing.  The UK media peeps who heard the studio music mentioned the driving beats and strong vocals and Adam has mentioned that the album vocals are very layered, so I’m guessing the album versions are going to be quite different from what we heard from last night.  A chorus sung with a single voice, for instance, can have much less impact that one accompanied by other, layered vocals and studio “instrumentation.”  This, of course, depends on the genre of music, but I think it’s pretty true of most dance tunes that aim to be bold and energizing.  I mean, you may still not like what you hear, but if you were a fan before, I wouldn’t write him off just yet.  I love Adam live, but I saw him fairly early during his GlamNation tour and twice again near the end of it, and in those few months of performing the songs between the songs had evolved and flourished.  He was absolutely great in June and spectacular in September.

  • Anonymous

Why don’t we all agree that not everyone is going to like the songs. The ones who do like them, buy them. The ones who don’t like them, don’t buy them. Buy the other guy’s music, it’s not that big of a deal.  I’m just happy he’s getting opportunity for a second album, because some Idols never made it to the second one. For me, I’m just happy that what the British music critics have said about certain tracks, is absolutely true. I’m looking forward to the album and there seem to be a lot of people around the world who also are impatient for Trespassing.

  • Anonymous

Since we are talking about Adam as a song writer I will weigh in and say that after hundreds of listens to FYE, Broken Open is my favorite song on that album.  I also love Aftermath, but not the album version as much as acoustic version.  So I guess I think Adam is a good song writer.  Once again, musical taste is so varied from person to person.  I am happy that I find these songs very pleasing.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, rock is so not going to happen for Adam. Not only would he get no airplay, he likes pop music. I happen to think these songs are already catchier than FYE and more current, which is something FYE lacked.  Not that I don’t love some of those songs too, for different reasons. But I really thought he needed to kick up the electronic elements for era 2.

It would be really interesting to guess what would have happened for Adam and his career and what Idol viewers would have thought if they had originally aired the Michael Jackson ‘Rock With You’ song he auditioned with instead of Queen.  If they had liked that and steered him pop for the show, I suspect people wouldn’t object as much to Trespassing.

On the other hand, he wouldn’t be singing at Sonisphere. Everything happens for a reason ;)

Oh and boo, Brian Mansfield is at the interview in Nashville today and tweeted there has been no talk of a US Queen show as of now.

  • Anonymous

I actually agree the sound is awful and the band needs some work, the vocals and hooks are fine.

    Reminder:

A reminder that this ain’t a fansite. Don’t harrass or troll posters who aren’t 100 percent on the glitter train. Fans (or non fans) should be able to say they don’t care for something without having their motives questioned or having to endure a pile on.

  • Anonymous

Ah, Sleepwalker. That would make sense then. Yeah, I am the first person to be doing a happy dance there is no Tedder on the album, even if Sleepwalker is a decent song, with horrible production. The live versions are about the only ones I like.  I also am not a Soaked fan on the album, the production is too bombastic. Or the Howard Benson production of Aftermath, I must preferred the charity remix.

I think the lyrics for Cuckoo are quite clever.  Chokehold melodically is very pretty, I can picture an atmospheric vibe like Duran Duran’s Ordinary World.

I can’t comment on the music until I hear the studio production. The band is a mess and I don’t think they can do the songs justice yet, in two performances. I think they need more practice, more keyboard elements, something different than rock drums.  But since this is just a showcase and not a tour and recorded via cell phone, I can overlook that for now.

The vocals on Cuckoo are nuts though, definitely a rock wail in there.

  • Anonymous

Now we have heard 5 songs from the new album. Here is my rating for them:
    Cuckoo: A+
    Outlaw of love: A
    Chokehold: A
Better than I know myself: B+, MV of BTIKM: A
    Trespassing: B

I need to listen to the studio version of Trespassing, maybe I’ll change my mind about that song. I sure hope that Cuckoo will be the next single.
BTW, I’d be worried if there’s no negative posts on an artist’s  songs on internet boards, youtube, etc. That means those who don’t like them won’t even bother to comment, and that said artist probably is irrelevant.

  • http://twitter.com/Quu3 Q3

Great to have new, real Adam music. I love Chokehold, and this Cuckoo deserves to be a single.

I do not think he can do justice to the dance pop tracks — Cuckoo and Trespassing — without backing tracks and more synth programming.

  • Anonymous

Oh and for the tour, I think he needs to hire a few more musicians. 4 isn’t going to cut it for the bigger production type songs.

  • http://twitter.com/MoriaPolonius Moria Polonius

Now we have heard 5 songs from the new album. Here is my rating for them:
    Cuckoo: A+
    Outlaw of love: A
    Chokehold: A
Better than I know myself: B+, MV of BTIKM: A
    Trespassing: B

That makes me realize that we’ve heart quite a few already!

My own grading after what I’ve heard (and it’s really hard to judge uptempos with lots of instruments on them from a fan-taken youtube video, slower songs usually turn out better in those):

    Chokehold: A++
    Outlaws of Love: A
    Cuckoo: A
    Trespassing: A-
    BTIKM: B-

(sorry BTIKM, you’re a decent song, but I have a scale now)

That tiny part of Underneath that floated around some part ago sounded like it could be great with Adam’s voice on it and the uptempo Bruno Mars demo sounded right up Adam’s alley, if I remember correctly.

If the pattern continues, this album is gonna be AWESOME.

  • lmao

OMG I love them all. If I HAD to give an rank,
Trespassing is my favorite, Chokehold & Cuckoo both a close second, BTIKM and OO third. Is it Mapril yet?

All my favorite artists get tons of negative posts .  I get the most enjoyment from the haters. ;)

  • Anonymous

These songs are so amazing on their own but what strikes me the most is that these, along with OOL are so Adam. They are as unique as he is. But also they are all so different from each other. Each one has a different emotion, a different vibe, rhythm and yet they fit together because Adam is in charge! He has a accomplished a cohesive album while not having the songs all feel the same, no mean feat. And we still have yet to hear Shady, Broken English, Underneath, Naked Love, OMG I can’t stand it! Damn you Mapril!!!!

  • Anonymous

I listened to all three again.  Cuckoo sounds better to me now; I really didnt care for it this morning (hence the 3rd-place ranking).  While I greatly appreciate these early videos that we see (thank you!), I have to remind myself that Cuckoo will probably sound much better in the studio version.

I agree with the person who said these types of songs (the poppy ones with all the *noise*) don’t come across nearly as well as the slower songs (which is probably why Chokehold sounds better to me) in these cell-phone recordings.

Forgot to mention how great Adam is looking these days!

  • Miss Chaos

asif, I read today in an interview he said Maypril, Mapril sounds like March-April, Maypril sounds like UG, you know what I mean, lol

  • Anonymous

Yep,  Adam always said he wants to make a pop album and wants to be a pop singer. And since I’m not an entitled fan and even if I’m entitled it’s not going to change anything anyway .. LOL. so I prefer and chose to relax and enjoy the music he creates.  I love Adam singing pop, I love Adam singing rock, I love Adam singing classical and I love Adam singing blues/jazz/soul songs.

For some people that still wants him to make rock album, maybe they think if they say it outloud upon the stars, it’s going to happen .. ;) LOL

Oh my gush, Oh my gush, Oh my gush!  I’m so addicted to listening to all these three songs.  I want Trespassing album so bad.  Like right this second!

  • Anonymous

I only listened to some of Cuckoo so I can’t comment on them but I did decide I’m not going to listen or comment on any of them until we get some with better sound quality.  That said Adam looked very good last night!!!

  • Anonymous

I listened to these songs many times hoping I would start to like them, but it’s just not working.

Why torture yourself then?  I couldn’t make it through one listen of Vision of Love so I backed quietly out of that thread and never looked back.  There’s something out there for everyone.  No need to force yourself to listen to something that’s not your cup of tea.  I’m sure not.

  • http://twitter.com/MoriaPolonius Moria Polonius

Lol, I think we’d need to wait until we actually hear the album but the same sentiment has crossed my mind. So many artists, even the ones I love and don’t mind it so much, fall into the trap of sounding the samey.

At this concert,  Chokehold, Trespassing and Cuckoo were very distinct and yet they sounded like  parts of the same whole. There is certain common swing to all 3 of them but they all have a different vibe musically, the staccato in Trespassing, the disco in Cuckoo and the Timberlake/funk/90s/whatever in Chokehold.

OoL has a soft sway to it, which I think would correspond to the swing in the uptempo ones.

BTIKM is the odd one out so far, at least to my ears, but that’s the only one that we’ve heard the album version of, so who knows, it might fit right in.

The Cuckoo song reminds me of the goodnight song in Sound of Music.

Adam just tweeted “coming soon”. What could it mean! New single??????? One can only hope!

  • http://twitter.com/Loretta31 Loretta

Adam looked amazing as usual.  I think I like all of the songs.  I only gave one listen each as the sound quality is bad and I want to hear every nunance before I decide.  BTIKM seems to be the odd song out musically to my ears.

  • Anonymous

Did they also use the F word in the Cuckoo from The Sound of Music?

    LOL, J/K

Cell phones / cameras cant handle lower hertz frequencies and high volume with their built in microphones. To get a good sound you would have to plug in another mic that is designed for live recordings. The person who recorded these vids did not have such mic or had the recording  volume to high. The keyboards, guitar and the bass are way to low on the mix.

  • http://twitter.com/svmreiter Susan Reiter

I listened to Trespassing and Cukoo (what a great Adam live song that’s going to be!) but Chokehold was not up when I left so I just heard it -holy cow! – the way those words flow together so smooth - the repeitition is spellbinding and please, please, please let there be some of those Adam rock wails in all three songs on the studio versions! Can’t. Wait. For. Mapril!

  • Anonymous

Just an observation – When Adam sings, he transfers the mic from hand to hand fairly frequently (especially the faster tracks).  Too many singers do not do this – they grip the mic in one hand – where it tends to remain – and then just flap the other arm/hand in, hopefully, time to the music.  These musically instinctive body movements are part of the reason Adam is such a dynamic live performer.

  • windmills

I’m not gonna lie, Adam’s outfit totally took me back to this at 1st (starting at the 1:09 mark):
    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xcuaju_vanilla-ice-ice-ice-baby_music

He’s rocking some serious late 80s/early 90s style with that outfit and it fits with the vibe of Cuckoo and Chokehold.

Background: My faves/purchased tracks from FYE are Music Again, Broken Open, Soaked, Sleepwalker and eventually WWFM. I liked Fever as a song but didn’t like the production so I didn’t buy that one.

I really like the main guitar riff of Cuckoo and the verses and prechorus are pretty catchy. I’m not as sold on the chorus but that’s the kind of thing production can help with, to give the song a lift at that point. The bridge is fine and 1000x better than the BTIKM bridge.

Chokehold is a good power ballad that sounds like it’s more in the WWFM/Sleepwalker angsty lane than BTIKM. The “bring it on back” part of the chorus is a good hook. My guess is it was produced as a pop/rock power ballad and the label thought it didn’t sound like something that might play on pop radio today, and chose the airier, more percussive Bruno Mars It Will Rainish production of BTIKM despite BTIKM being the weaker song.

Trespassing’s hook immediately got my attention when I first heard that acoustic performance video. It’s definitely the best hook we’ve heard out of the songs intended for Adam’s album. I wasn’t as excited about this video and kind of felt like they’d overused that really awesome hook. I kind of think you need a shorter song if you’re going to do that. That being said, this is another situation that production can help. We know there’s going to be a part where everything except the percussion and Adam’s voice drops out and that’s the kind of variety they’ll need in the studio version. I’m sure it’ll be there.

  • Anonymous

Liking the songs, although I have to admit it’s hard for me to hear all the lyrics in these videos. I think Chokehold is my favorite of the 3. Excited to hear what the studio versions sound like.

I agree almost completely with your rating. I just think Trespassing did not get the best treatment in the videos, it has potential to sound much better.

    Wowza!

If this is what these songs sound like with crappy audio I can only imagine them on the CD and then live in person!

And, must I even say that Adam looked scrumpdillyiscious, long, lean, tall, and stylish?  Love him in a white shirt. ( well, love him in anything except a poncho. LOL)

Cuckoo sounds like a hit off this CD.

I like the vibe of Chokehold and Trespassing is fun to hear. That’s based on music, i did not focus on the lyrics

  • Karen C

I like Chokehold the best of these songs, and best of all the songs I’ve heard for the new album.

  • cwm

BC Jean actually commented positively on his songwriting skills, as did
one of the guys with whom he worked on FYE.  I, unfortunately, can’t
remember who is was … Greg Wells, maybe, or Ryan Tedder?  At any rate,
whoever it was said something along the lines that he was surprised to
find that Adam, in addition to being a talented singer, was also a good
song writer.  Now it’s gonna bug me who it was, so I have to go
    delving…

teri63 – I’m pretty sure that was Greg Wells or his songwriting partner Evan Bogart who said that. :-)

I love, love, love Cuckoo!  Impatiently waiting for the next single and nervous about the Bruno song if it is in fact going to be next . I sincerely hope it’s the best and not just being picked because it’s Bruno.  Especially since feedback from the earlier media tour was so positive on Cuckoo.  It’s such a toss up: really want Adam to have success so if the Bruno name helps a great song go higher, super!  But don’t want all media to be about Adam singing a Bruno song.  But -circular worrying- if it does really well, who cares!  We’ll see…

  • Anonymous

I’m so tempted but I think I’ll wait for the final recordings. I don’t want to be disappointed like I was w/ Trespassing live because I’m still not totally impress w/ the band as a whole. They’re a hit or miss for me. It was tighter w/ Monte. Dude must be a drill sergeant and a perfectionist. If Adam improvised, they’re all like lost puppies. Monte knew how to pull Adam back, adjust, or lead the way. The 2nd guessing and hesitations were less obvious during Monte era.

If Cuckoo sounds like DTRH, then I’ll content myself w/ the dark side songs. I’m not a fan of that manic song and the dorky live performances. I’ve read about the literal gesturing of “cuckoo”. Ugh, my pet peeves. I cringed the “fanning” during Fever as much as I hate Lauren’s finger-pointing; Pia’s open arms; and Haley’s back-hand side body caress. Kelly’s air chopping is an exception, at least it’s looks natural.

  • Anonymous

Thank you, cwm!  I couldn’t find it again on the net, but I totally remember reading the quote shortly after he released or as he was recording FYE.  I’m glad someone else remembers this, too, so I don’t have to worry about becoming delusional!  LOL!

  • Anonymous

I think Trespassing sounds more like DTRH than Cuckoo, musically anyway. From what we’ve heard.

fanaroundhere – It’s RCA, of course it’ll be the Bruno song.  They can’t think their way out of a paper bag on singles ;)

I will say, the dancey demo version is hella catchy. If Dr. Luke can kick up the production, it could be a real ear worm.  I don’t care that KC didn’t get co-write singles, only 5 on her whole album, I don’t really care about Adam in that respect either.   Her co-writes are as spotty for me as his. Love ‘You Love Me’, Hate Einstein.

Bonnie Mckee has a good track record on chr with Katy, but I’m not sure about Oligee as a producer. Seems they like to go with the hit makers, even as BTIKM as proven, they don’t always have the right formula.

Did Adam not have a hand in writing Cuckoo?  It’s pretty clear he took a major part in writing Trespassing, with those cheesey puff lyrics and repetitive-but catchy- melody, lol.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

Yes, Adam wrote Cuckoo with Bonnie McKee and Ollie Goldstein (Olliegee)produced it.

  • Anonymous

These are three very different songs – Adam is nothing if not versatile – unlike most singers.  These fan vids, with poor audio, offer little in how these tracks will sound on the album – or how they’ll sound with professional videos.  Even so, the man’s voice and performing brilliance shine through.

  • Anonymous

I think (and hope) Adam will end up with writing credits on most of the songs. :)

  • Anonymous

Greg Wells said some really awesome things about Adam’s songwriting. Do we know if any of his collabs with Adam made the album?  Broken Open remains one of my favorite tracks on FYE.

Still loving Chokehold SO much. Do we know anything about who wrote this one?

  • Anonymous

I’m not sure I love these songs.  I love Adam and his voice.  But I hear songs on the radio and I think Adam should be singing that song!!!  I’m not sure who is writing songs for him.  He makes everything sound beautiful, but I don’t think these are hit songs.

  • Anonymous

Yes, Adam co-wrote Cuckoo with Bonnie McKee.
I’m going to bet that Pharrell had quite a bit to do with the melody of Trespassing. This song was a combined effort.

  • Anonymous

I can’t predict whether or not they will be hits either, but, since songs on radio are all polished with enhancements of every kind, it’s hard to compare them with a fan vid of a pretty much first-time live performance.

Just goes to show that even with the best voice out there you need really great songwriters.  fye is still my fave from Adam.

  • Axxxel

Totally agree with you about preferring to listen to the final recordings… even though some will disappoint me and I will end up loving the accoustic versions like BTIKM and Aftermath (FYE-album). But I just love to read all the comments on this blog…because they are all so different.

On a shallow note, I thought the “fanning” during “Fever” was fun and feminin…and meant as a joke…

  • Anonymous

Actually Trespassing seems more Pharrell in writing style to me, maybe not lyrics, but the structure and staccato style and melody. If I had to guess, Adam was more lyrics on that one and Pharell music.

Yes, Cuckoo was written with Bonnie. I really love the lyrics to that one.

  • Anonymous

Not sold on any of these songs yet. Will wait to hear how they come together on the full CD, as well as how they are received on Itunes, radio and in the sales market.

  • Anonymous

    I love Cuckoo and Chokehold.
I think I’m going to love the CD and I’m really getting impatient waiting for the release date.

  • Anonymous

Really? You can’t tell if you like something until you see if other people like it? On another note, I don’t think we’ve heard anything near the recorded “Trespassing.” Not even close.

  • Anonymous

Still love all of them after countless listens.  Can’t wait to hear the studio recordings. I like the lyrics.  They’re interesting and different–as is Adam himself–from the contrived, self-consciousness and sometimes pretentiousness that permeates so much of the original music coming from former Idols.  For me, he’s the best songwriter of the bunch.

  • http://twitter.com/Gemini_Dolly J3%%!C@

Im liking it so far. But, will wait till I hear the album version. The songs that I am not enjoying are the slower ones. Chokehold and Better than I know myself are the weaker ones, IMO.

  • Anonymous

Chokehold – weaker one?  Don’t think so.  The sexual undertones in that one bode well for its success.  Check the comments on yt.

  • cwm

A talented pianist has done instrumental covers of both Cuckoo and Chokehold. They’re both actually very nicely done and show the strength of the melodies.

I officially no longer care if any of these songs are the next single or are radio hits, etc. – I love them all three!! I was afraid Adam might hold back on his fierceness to be radio friendly but now I see he will not! – Chokehold is really hypnotic and I expected to like that one the least from the early descriptions.  Bring it on back to me, Adam ! – cause sometime around Mapril I’ll be blasting these songs in my car and life will be good again : )

  • gferna

I have to admit that I don’t understand the lirycs… But the songs sound pretty good.  Very good… I mean superb!!!  I hope definitive tracks are longer, and also, these are not “dance” songs per se.  There is a very noticeable rock vibe in here, definitely have to hear studio recording… Good stuff, let’s cross fingers and hope Adam can debut at #1.

  • http://twitter.com/AdamsArmyGirl Linda Vastardis

I just finished reading and enjoying all 220 comments … love the fan-berting but also enjoy the diverse remarks too.

Gotta admit that I have bad hearing to begin with so hearing these 3 songs really put me out in left field as to really being able to give an opinion.  As others have stated already, the musical sound was far less than optimal and way too bassy for me but I’m sure that’s because of the position of the recorder and the quality of the source.  Watching and hearing Adam, though, was a real treat and from what I was able to come away with makes me all the more excited for Mapril.

Adam looked divine … I love this new ‘look’ so much … it’s so organic and genuine, I hope he keeps it for a long time … but we all know Adam distaste for anything ‘static’.  But he definitely seems more grounded and settled now that he’s in a committed relationship with a great partner in Sauli.

Can’t wait for the ‘real’ versions to emerge so I can really take it all in, but of these 3 songs on one listen each, the song that initially grabbed me the most was Chokehold.  Something about that song that I just loved on first listen.

Trespassing is my least favorite because I just think it’s too rapid and I can’t envision people dancing and singing to it, but I haven’t been in a club in centuries!  ;)  So what do I know.  Again, waiting for the album version.

I got a kick out of Cuckoo, mostly for Adam’s ‘cuckoo-ness’ playing with the song and his expressions.  Too adorable for words.  That kinda took my attention away from the song itself.

Adam’s voice … impeccable as always … he just shines.  Can’t wait to see him on Idol.

  • Anonymous

Finally a chance to listen to all of these and even crappy quality and all, I think they’re all better than BTIKM. I so don’t get RCA. They crappy songs for first singles for all my faves, Cookie; Kelly; Adam and Kris.

I like Cukoo and Tresspassing better than Chokehold, but again, all of them are better than his current single. Hopefully onwards and upwards for the next one (please RCA –pick Adam’s version of Stronger).

  • mgoldenerrc

I wish that Adam had recorded Pink’s song, “Perfect”, because it would have been perfect for him.

  • Axxxel

Aaawww… Maybe Adam Lambert can sing “Perfect” at a charity show…and another artist will do the rap part… I just remember that in Glee this season (episode I kissed a girl)….”Perfect” was sung by Chris Colfer (who plays Kurt), while Darren Criss (who plays Kurt’s boyfriend) did the rap part…

  • Anonymous

The only thing I’m not wild about is the cuckoo-clock “Cuckoo”, but that
probably sounds great on a recording and would be something the kids
could latch on to (and won’t seem so silly once somebody from the label
tells Adam he looks like an idiot being so literal and pointing at his
head while he makes a crazy face). song.

Well, the Apocalypse must be coming nearer or something, because I finally figured out what bugs me the whole time about the new album, new music and new whatever from Lambert.
While he’ s been off the screen, I’ve kind of managed to forget that most of the time the dude was and is at least partially RIDICULOUS beyond belief and no matter how hard I roll my eyes at that and wish it would just go away, it kind of worked for him rather well. But the new look, new sound and new promo has a completely toned down narrative and a moment like “cuckoo” now looks really OTT, especially for me, since I’ve had to remember what the guy has been going for the last ten years. So now I really hope the OTT didn’t get lost somewhere on the way to being palatable enough for the current radio and that the dude is still ridiculous.

a just-in-case-disclaimer: I am a fan. Anybody thinking of going to moscow?

  • Anonymous

I don’t even understand what you said.

  • Axxxel

I think that the “Over the top – attitude” is already a part of Adam Lambert’s character, no matter how much he is dressed up… Remember Simon Cowell saying to Randy Jackson during top 5 (Rat Pack) in american idol… complaining about Adam  that he is too theatrical is like complaining that the cows mooes …

  • Axxxel

I guess that Zaclona77 was wondering what happened to the ridiculously Over the Top Adam, now that his image and some of his songs are more clean, and meanstream…

  • Anonymous

I love the way these songs let his voice shine.  Both are great and I want that album now.  It’s all about what I want you know.

  • Anonymous

Over the top? Adam has said many times that he is sometimes a bit over the top/ridiculous.  And that this is not brain surgery and there is no need to take everything so seriously (and a song like cuckoo is not that serious). I personally get a laugh out of it.  As an entertainer, the last thing you want to be is boring, and I think he very successfully stays clear of that.  Besides, he has proven countless times that he is capable of tender, heartfelt renditions when the song asks for it.

  • Anonymous

I think how he presents his songs, come from his theater background. He didn’t grow up performing in bands thinking he was going to be a rock star one day. He started in musical theater and had plans to be a broadway when he grew up and in his twenties his plans changed. But you can’t completely take the theater out of the theater kid. He use all of his former training in practically everything he do as a mainstream artist. From when he’s giving interviews to performances on t.v and the planing of his tour, past experiences help a great deal.

Adam’s performance of acoustic BTIKM from Q100 Atlanta is up on youtube. Unbelievably beautiful performance. His vocals are out of this world.

    OK, I’m doing a ‘mea culpa’ ….

Today I watched different versions of Chokehold, Cuckoo and Tresspassing and I am ‘over the edge’ … OMFRG delicious!

But I have to say I am still still still in glorious love with Chokehold just as I said in my previos post.  Nothing has change except my intense passion for all of these songs … a different YT version changed it all for me.  Chokehold has me in a Chokehold of enormous proportions ….

And I like it that way!

Looks like an unfinished version of the Brad Walsh BTIKM remix has leaked. Actually makes me like the song a bit more.

I really need new music from Adam in my life right now.  Watching him made me happy, happy, happy. : )  With that said, I feel like I couldn’t hear the music or lyrics well enough to form an opinion, although watching him make me happy, can’t state that enough.  I usually love whatever Adam sings simply because it’s Adam so I’m sure these songs will be no exception once I get to hear the recorded versions.

On a shallow note, I hope Adam doesn’t lose any more weight.  Of course he looks fabulous as always, I just prefer him a little meatier.
