Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and the Idols Dominate: iTunes Top 100 Videos

I, along with the majority of Adam’s fans, had already bought all of his singles and videos as soon as they became available. I have to believe that the people who weren’t sure if they could ever like Adam changed their minds after watching him perform with KISS and especially Queen. I believe that a lot of people finally realized that he can sing anything.

I read earlier than Kris was dominating the charts this week & I was surprised. Now I see that’s not accurate. This list makes more sense to me.

I don’t know that the same wouldn’t hold for Kris. I just think that the majority of his fans bought everything they could get their hands on when it became available. I don’t see much difference. Personally, I’ve actually bought nothing from either.

As did I. Adam had won EVERY SINGLE Week on iTunes when they were “accidently” released. So add that huge accomplishment to what he is doing know, and there is no questions asked that he has dominated iTunes sales…as opposed to hometown support.

Can someone please help an itunes newbie here? If I buy a video, can I burn it to a dvd….if my computer has that capability? Or does it play only on the computer (in quick time, I assume?)

Also…I saw talk not long ago that the AI performances/songs go away pretty quickly from itunes after the show is over. Does anyone know how long we have to buy? I’m thinking MJ will give us a heads up if at all possible.

Yep, I think you might be right there. The Kiss performance was outrageously good. The boy dominated the band, I couldn’t take my eyes off of him.

I hope he becomes the global sensation I expect him to be. Ever since I first saw him, I thought this boy could turn out to be this century’s male equivalent of Madonna in terms of cultural and musical influence.
I truly hope he does.

Oh, well Adam didn’t win in the end. As one of my favorite Cook sayings goes, “suck it (insert runnerup here).” It works as well for Archuleta or Lambert. I have to think that the sentiment is more meant for those OTT haters who won’t give up or let go and realize that their contestant isn’t at all harmed by the results but only care about how the results went for their own egos. Archuleta is doing amazingly well. I’m sure Lambert will too. That both contestants feel the same makes me think that fans stop doing them favors after a while.

Sunn, you are so right. Adam was positively glowing during his KISS performance and dominating the performance. I think he was floating on air for his Queen performance and proved that he can sing Freddie Mercury songs damn well.

This list has to do with the idol VIDEO’s. The singles are another matter altogether. On that list, Kris has the number one single on all of itunes now with “heartless” very close by. What makes sense about this list is this: that people prefer to watch Lambert, but they prefer to listen to Kris. Make of it what you will but I think all of this just bodes well for both singers.

dulce, this list shows only what is being purchased in the last 3-4 days. It doesn’t prove thqat people prefer to watch or listen to either. A lot of people are buying now because the singles and videos from Idol are only available for a short time.

Please, read which chart this is from. Kris has the number one single on iTunes right now while Adam has the number one video – 2 different things being referenced

LOL Regarding who dominates more or less… Each “team” will have something to chose to defend its side. Kris will most probably have the two best selling songs and the higher entry, Adam will sell more overall and probably more entries on HOT100 and digital songs.

I wonder if the 19 machine will reveal videos numbers (if it’s even possible) I expect some great PR thing next week, and I can see them bragging about the videos. It’s something I always wanted to know, how much videos sell on Itunes. I was never able to find that info. I don’t think it’s much because both Cook and Archie fanbases were able to put videos in the top 10 on itunes without any sort of promo/word about it..

ETA: I wouldn’t take the conclusion that people prefer to watch Adam and listen to Kris. Adam was dominating (and in a sense still is cause his songs overal are higher) and Kris songs started climbing more cause he is the American Idol. I don’t have a horse here, but to me Adam dominates more. His compilation album is also ahead.

Yup, you need the context. As with every statement, there is context. I’d venture to say that nobody, american idol contestant or not, is simple enough to take every statement at face value. If anybody is that simple, is giving them no credit whatsoever. That you think anybody could be isn’t truly a reflection on them…

Adam and Kris are also favoring quite well in Canada. Danny Gokey gets a tiny bit of love too.

Adam’s full Idol album is also outselling Kris’. He’s #2 on the overall Album chart whle Kris is at #6. I think the majority of Adam fans have been buying his singles all along and Kris is getting a post winners bump right now.

I am not a Kris fan or a big Adam fan, but good for them for dominating ITunes. I am glad to see that Danny has a few songs up there. And that his medley with Lionel Richie is at #7. That’s awesome, I thought that he and Lionel were the best duet of the finale.

So glad Kris’s live version of “Heartless,” is available. It’s so good! And I dislike the studio version, so much. Probably because it doesn’t do justice to the sound and feel of the live version. Once again Auto Tune just strips Kris, and most of the contestants, actually, of the soul in their voices and overwhelms with them with bland bandzilla-izations of their work.

Of course if AI weren’t the cheap bastadges they are, they could spend just a little more money on production of the studio versions and really do these kids justice. But why should they when they manage to make money off of versions that don’t?

And thrilled that a “Satisfaction,” video is available. Was sad that I didn’t have it on my iPod. And I have to agree, what Adam fans haven’t already bought his stuff? Besides the obvious of Tuesday’s show, of course. I would love to see Adam doing Beth as well. Not the KISS stuff, because that’s not worthy of him, but the Beth peformance was just lovely. His vocals were oustanding, no “screeching,” and the mood and visuals were so interesting.

And the duet of Adam/Kris with Queen should be made available on iTunes. It was great to see another duet between people who understand that concept. Yeah, still upset that Kris didn’t have a better duet experience earlier.

And for the Kris fans, that was a good duet with Keith Urban. Not surprised at all. Such a great fit for him.

oh, who the heck cares folks? maybe it matters to TPTB that Kris sell the most pancakes by every measure. But I think most of Kris’ fans want both kids to be successful as much as I do. I mean, if one was completely ignored and the other selling through the roof, that might be important. Otherwise, let’s give them both props for getting their music across.

And let’s take a deep breath and a few steps backward and remember that if singles and video sales alone were a marker of what’s good in music, the scene would be pretty pitiful overall…..

You can certainly look at that way. Or this;
The number of people that buy music videos are is far smaller than those who buy audios. People who buy music videos are in general fans who have seen the performance and liked it, not people who are unacquainted with the artist or his video.
Singles on the other hand have a far consumer base. People unfamiliar with all the idol performances will gravitate towards the title “idol winner”. It’s only natural. It happened to me last year. I didn’t know who the davids were, I was never an avid watcher of AI, so when I sampled music I sampled Cook’s as the winner. To this day I an honestly say that I have never heard Archuletta perform nor do harbor any interest in doing so in the future.
Add to that the fact that Kris’s single is getting radio spins and television performances as well as Kris on every program and voila you have a hit single, in fact several.

No conclusions should ever be based on AI sales. too much hype and post show energy as well as animosity Influence those numbers.
Only time will tell who will be more successful. I personally think they both will have their fair share of success if the right producers, writers and promotional teams are made available to them.

Adam besides video has the number #2 album. Kris is at number 5 for a compilation of season 8 so to say people don’t want to listen to Adam is ridicules. They rather buy his entire body of work then a single at a time. People Many love to see and hear him.

Not true. Adam is outselling Kris concerning album sales. Kris is outselling Adam as far as single, which makes sense since Kris is the winner. SO, what we see here (on day 2) is that People are more likely to go to an Adam Lambert concert (no surprise), and they are more likely to buy his entire album. Kris’s fans are more likely to buy a single song. If its true that Kris’s main base is teenage girls that makes sense since their income is limited.

I’m not going to get into the “which one is better to have” argument as its pointless at this point. Obviously they are both doing well, and its only been 2 days…. LOL

I just want Adam’s album to come out.

I don’t think Ruben’s career is in any better shape than Clay’s right now. And I’m also pretty sure Clay has been making more money than Ruben all along. He’s toured more, sold more albums and had a very successful run on Broadway. Clay ain’t hurting for cash.

This is also a chart of VIDEOS, so of course Adam’s gonna dominate this. As a Kris fan, I’m glad the two dominate iTunes, and that Kris is getting a lot more attention on the iTunes Music downloads.

If they are, you should buy them, but if not you can always rip them. I never tried to rip a video from the web before and then make a MP3 clip of it, but googled how to and found all the software I needed was either on my mac or I could download for free.

They’re both selling very well right now, and that’s really exciting to me. I only wish Allyson were making a better showing. Honestly, I believe she (and others) would if AI had done the marketing ploy they did last year and threaten unavailability. I know that worked on me last year, when I bought all Jason’s and a smattering of Carly’s, Brooke’s, and Michael’s too on the very last day. LOL Of course, I NEVER listen to them, so it bodes better for me that AI is doing it differently this year!

i have just read it on some blogs that the voting system of AI needs some overhauling.
In choosing a winner and to prevent power voting as has been evidenced in this season and some other ones;

- the judges should have a say in deciding the winner
- the public vote should be limited to a certain number per phone
- lastly, the itunes sales of the constestants should also be put into consideration.

I still believe, had the right system being in place, Kris could never have won over Lambert.

Allison having 3 entries in the top 100, after leaving some time ago is really good..

Cool, more proof that Adam has commercial appeal! And many of his fans already had downloaded their tunes long ago.

I love hearing such nice words about Adam from Brian May!! Queen has long been one of my favorite bands. Makes me feel so good for Adam. I think if something is available on itunes, you should buy it there. But if not, and you really want the video and audio, here is how to do it.

http://www.web-video-downloader.com/ will work with your firefox browser and you can download the video. It’s really easy. You can download any video on the web with it.

You might get a flash file when you download something. If so, you need to transfer it to a file itunes can read like a MP4

For a Mac use – http://simplemoviex.com/SimpleMovieX/info.html
For PC use – http://www.videospin.com/Redesign/

Then if you want to rip it for your iPod you need export out the audio file.

For a Mac use iMovie and delete the video track then, export it to itunes.

I have no idea how to do this on a PC and what programs you need, sorry, but I’m sure someone else will post it.

You can dowload the Queen performance off Youtube using Firefox and Downloadhelper ( an addon to Firefox).

You will get a flash file (.flv), you can then go to http://www.media-convert.com/ click on choose file to upload the flash, choose the output format whether m4p for video or mp3 for audio and the site will upload convert and make ready the output file for you to download.
The whole process take no more than 10 mins.

Heh, I’ll admit that more than couple of those views are mine. But I only listen to “Beth”… I know that’s not exactly Adam’s preferred style, but it’s really pretty and I hope he does some cheesy ballads on his album.

I think that this just reinforces what everyone’s been saying: Adam is the big show and Kris is the intimate artiste. You want to thrill to Adam strutting and wailing but you want to swoon to Kris softly crooning in your earbuds.

I think it’s whatever the 19E decides. I know 19E signed both Kris and Adam, and I think they also signed Danny and Allison. So it’s really their strategy on what they think will make the most money.

I think that this just reinforces what everyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been saying: Adam is the big show and Kris is the intimate artiste. You want to thrill to Adam strutting and wailing but you want to swoon to Kris softly crooning in your earbuds.

I think if they have the accumulative downloads, it would make more sense. because I don’t think people would buy both the video and studio, since they are actually the same for certain contestant. which means, people want to watch Adam while they listen, and for Kris, listen is enough.

I hope they can put all those amazing duets to the itunes.

It can go either way. Sometimes it’s just a matter of who’s album is ready to go out first. Clay got his album out before Ruben. Kellie Pickler and Daughtry got their albums out before Taylor Hicks AND Katharine McPhee. Last year Kristy Lee Cook got her album out before both Davids.

Adam said they were going to start on his album soon, and I’ve heard he and Allison both have co-writers/writers quing up to work with them. Since the tour doesn’t start until July, I think both Adam and Allison will have an album out soon. Kris will be tied up doing press for a while.

Ciciring, I have downloaded both the videos and studio versions of every one of Kris’s downloads because listening is not enough. I love his smiles. I love the way his eyes get warm when he sings. In short, I love to listen to his intimate crooning, but even more I love to watch him dong it.

MJ’s videos are better. You’ll get a flash file and need to transfer it to the MP4 file. I wrote how to do that earlier on this thread. It’s easy. I tend just to do it for the audio because sometimes the studio version is not as good — ie Free ride

Not since season one has the winner been required to release first. It’s a free-for-all as to anyone who Idol signs. Anyone that isn’t signed by idol has to wait until their 19E contract ends after the tour to sign with anyone else.

Kelly took a year to record and release her cd and Justin was contractually obligated to wait until 3 months after her release date. By that time, he was left-overs. Lesson learned.

i know this isnt where this belongs, but it came to me today…since i thought i could but not have been able to get over adams loss..that he was just fine and dandy to keep us entertained week after week, but when it came down to the actual title of AI…that it was imperative that he lose so that someone more “respectable” could hold that title. All i have to say is that i am soo glad it was kris, because although adam is my number one, kris is one of the nicest boys i have ever heard. he doesnt do one interview without saying how much he respects and loves adam and that he was the most gifted contestant that ever took the idol stage and that he should have won as well. and its sincere, not just blah blah to look good.

I just have to say, I find the argument that Adam is the sort of singer people like to see in concert but not hear on cds to be ridiculous. Gokey H. Christ, yes. I’m primarily a Kris fan, and I don’t give two shits about Adam’s “professional” experience. If he’s got it…flaunt it, baby. His “professional” experience (and he’s said this before) was one of the things that hurt him in the competition, because he had to learn to dial it back and make people believe what he was singing. TV was so much more intimate. It was a feat that I don’t think he was always able to accomplish.

His “professional experience” was extremely limited, and it did not include a recording contract. He’s not Carly Smithson, for fuck’s sake.

What is strange is that I assume that Adam is a little bummed he did not win, but does it matter. Look at what he got. He got totally what he wanted…a platform for his career as an artist. One of his ex’s twittered out, “Adam is not upset, so why are you” Why are people upset and picking fights? I’m so happy for Adam, Kris and Allison.

This is very similar to DC’s pre-order last year, but to me maybe better. LOL, I’m thinking/hoping I only get NB once due to this way. I have at least 4 TOMLs downloaded and don’t listen to any of them (well every great once in awhile). I like the idea of getting behind the scenes vids from the concert as well.

I think both guys are doing really well. If Adam had won, I would never be so vindictive to wish him to fail, to pray Kris showed him up. I like this blog to get information on the boys. They both make me smile, their warmth and caring and love for each other is inspiring. And then I make the mistake of reading comments … lol
As far as Kris’s album sales being, I believe #5 and #7, up against Adam’s #2 or #3? — the difference is Kris is selling an I-tune pass @$16.99 a pop and the compilation @ $9.99. I spent well over $30.00 on Kris today, after having bought during the Idol season. I believe if Kris only had the compilation out there and not the I-tune pass (album pre-oder), his numbers would be a hell of a lot higher on the list. I think that’s a fair assessment.

Adam is selling his videos well because he puts on what I call a Spectacle. I bought most of Kris’ videos to hold on to the feel of the show. Last year David Cook’s performances were all over Youtube, easily accessible. I guess TPTB was cognizant of that and now this year, if we want a “memory” of the show, we need to fork over the cash.

Unfortunately, KISS is ajoke to me (please note I said KISS, not Adam). I’m not even sure when they were around, I must have blocked it out. I was listening to the Allman Brothers and the Outlaws — Green Grass and High Tides — now that’s classic. After 51 years (God, that scares me to put that in writing) I’ve listened to my share of music. Disco Sucks! was shouted from the rooftops by my English Major long-haired rocker boyfriend. Got to clear your head of AM top 40 music, he’d say to me. He introduced me to the Moody Blues, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Yes … The music available was amazing, limitless. I loved Neil Young, Dave Mason, and Dan Fogelberg (not everything was as “gooey” as Longer), James Taylor. We all have our favorites– our own particular preferences. The above mentioned barely touches all the singers and groups I’ve loved over the years.

I want Kris to succeed and I want Adam to succeed. Getting ahead is difficult enough — I suppose, as an unpublished writer, I know how it feels to put your work out there for people to critique. I haven’t yet developed a thick-skin, probably never will. That’s what I applaud in these boys — their courage and love of music that they stay the course no matter the put-downs or hatred. Why the hatred? I don’t have a clue.

I’ve read that Kris has done missionary work, had given his guitar to a young girl who was trying to play with a guitar that had seen better days. Had given away a guitar that meant the world to him and was afraid his parents might get angry at him, not wanting him to take the guitar with him. This is my take on Kris: he’s been to, I believe he said 8 countries, I’m certain in very impoverished areas of those countries. I think that gives one a better perspective on what’s important in life. Adam called Kris an old soul. I see that too. He seems at peace, accepting. I think he’s just happy to be able to make good music, and make a living at it.

Why can’t we be happy for them? I don’t get it. Maybe I’m just too damn tired and too damn old.

Adam’s song Is Anybody Listening was offered by i tunes this week. I don’t know if it is still there but i snagged it as soon as someone here posted that it was available.

evanjane, interesting perspective on KISS. Someone else mentioned they were on all the lunchboxes, etc. The were HUGE when I was in elementary school. Mostly popular with the boys. Were they the Jonas Brothers of the late 70s? Paul Stanley was always my fave. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed it seeing Adam have fun on stage with them. LOL. I also love disco back in the day.

I really think this years fans, especially on this site have been quite well behaved. I was around during season 5 and folks weren’t as nice. Maybe it’s because Adam and Kris are friends and both super nice guys. Maybe it’s because they are so different in so many ways but so similar in their basic love of music, Anyway it’s a good thing. I think Kris may have a little harder climb, as the Idol, than Adam, but I have been wrong about other things Idol before. If you have patience, all the videos will appear, plus MP3 of the performances on http://www.IdolJunkie.com. They are easily downloaded on Send Space. She is usually several days behind and I checked and this weeks haven’t been posted yet. She has all the performance of all contestants so it’s a great resource.

Just to be accurate: The current iTunes rank, Adam’s compilation is the #2 album on iTunes; Kris’ compilation is #8 — both are $9.99. If they put up and Adam pass for $45, I’d buy it. There just ins’t one to buy — yet. The Kris album ranks been moving up then down, but Adam has held #2 all day. And Adam is doing well in Canada.

BUT I don’t see any reason to keep comparing the two. Kris is selling. Adam is selling. It’s all good.

I think that some Adam fans are having trouble with the fact that Adam didn’t win but that is fading fast. But some of Kris’ fans seem to be very much concerned about finding proof that Kris deserved to win. He won, cool. I can live with that. Adam seems OK with it.

Fan wars have existed since they started selling sheet music. They’ll never go away. Anyone who is “old” like me can remember the battles in the mid-60′s between the “good” Beattles and the “bad” Rolling Stones. Even though people bought and liked both, the still had a favorate. For three years they had a battle of the bands competition on the radio, with phone in voting. In 1965, the Beattles won. In 1966 and 1967, the Stones won. Did it make the Stones the better selling band, or mean they were more popular. No it just was a way to express how people felt about the times and themselves. As kids became more angry at the “establishment”, they shifted to voting for the Stones. I’m not so sure that AmIdol voting is much different.

In the end, since I am an admitted Adam fan, I believe that Adam will prove to be popular in the “big” music world — outside of the Idol bubble. I just don’t see any need to define Adam’s success with a comparison to Kris’ sales.

Did anyone hear on one of the gazillions of interviews already out that Kris said his self-produced album was quite a while ago (whatever that means in the life of a 23-year old! To me it means over a decade….) and he implied that he’s grown a lot since then. Didn’t disown the record, but doesn’t think it represents him today.

My entire point was not to compare. Amazing! You’re still fighting the good fight! Beatles vs Rolling Stones — a bit before my time. ::grin:: This is my first foray in this nonsense and the last. And, for the record, that’s what I find it to be nonsense. I just don’t want a perfectly nice, talented kid feeling the backlash of winning idol over Adam. Adam was on a different playing field than most of those kids. Kris was able to compete. I was ready to give up on Idol until I noticed Kris and thought maybe there’s something there, maybe this might be a competition after all.

I don’t even know what to say. I thought I stated my thoughts well enough. I was looking for reconciliation and compassion for those kids. I really wonder how Adam and Kirs feel about all this. I hope they can rise above it all. But, of course, they’ll be laughing all the way to the bank while you guys continue the fight.

OK, I’m a fogey, but I remember this! And you know what? They were both fantastic bands, who most music fans of my generation came to love and respect.

The Beatles will always mean the most for me, because of their sheer genius and that incredible combination of talented singer/songwriters.

But Mick and the boys are incredible, they redefined rock with a big dose of hard-edged blues……and by the way THEY WERE BIG FRIENDS OF THE BEATLES. I only hope that for Adam and Kris, as they go on to hopefully make their own great music.

I love Adam and I’ve bought all of his singles and videos. What I want to know is why he wasn’t anywhere on the list of Top 25 sexiest idols (which aired on tvguide channel) which included 2 people from this season, but not Adam? Obviously people love to look at him if his videos are selling so well. I personally think he’s the sexiest idol ever, as well as having the best voice. He was so gorgeous when he sang “Beth” in the KISS video….and that costume he wore was really hot.

ANOOP FANS – I just noticed tonight that there are a couple more videos on iTunes(Angel of Mine & My Prerogative)I didn’t know were available because you only see them when you “See All” in the Anoop video section. So now I have them! All 9 of Anoop’s performance videos & 9 studios. I just wish there was more, so damn everyone responsible for depriving me of that!!

I also purchased the “I’m Yours” video, thinking it was from the finale, but it was the video from the group number done earlier in the season. I should have watched the preview first. At least there is still a little bit of Anoop in there. I hope the “I’m Yours” Finale performance featuring Anoop, Alexis & Jason Mraz will be available for purchase soon too.

I also got the “Shake Your Body Down to the Ground” video, which is great! Anoop starts it off & it’s fun to watch them all dance. That’s the one Paula choreographed.

A: I never really listen to what people say [laughs]. My thing is: My favorite artists are artists that are theatrical. Obviously, when you are doing a recording, things aren’t gonna translate as over the top …

I really enjoy the recording process and it’s going to represent itself differently. Anybody that bought an iTunes version of what I did on the show could see “OK, I get how he sounds in a recorded session now versus how he is live.” It’s different. The live performance takes it to a different level, so I think people are in store for a treat. I think it’s going to be a really cool album, and I’m excited to start working on it.

Heart, this is what I have been saying on the blogs for weeks to all the people who have been critical of Adam’s performances. Just listen to his recorded versions, that boy can sing ANYTHING amazingly well. He does what any long lasting entertainer does, spices it up for the concert, although in reality it was for T.V. but you get an idea what a treat is you’re going to get at an Adam Lambert concert.

I also think that the way he sang “Beth” on Wed. night showed a lot of his critics that he can sing without the high notes and wail. I am one who has always liked most of my favorite singers to wail, in perfect pitch of course.

Had to give props to Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken here that they were doing very well in 2008. I mean, Kelly win AI in 2002. After seven years, she still making over 4 million in 2008, not bad at all.

Clay was only runner up in 2003. Though his album recently did not do very well but still managed to pick up over 2 million in 2008.

And look at Jennifer Hudson and Kelli Pickler. Both only finished in sixth place but they also manage to do very well.

So it all came back from the AI finalist how well they can manage their career after AI ended. You did not had to be the winner of AI to be sucessful. But of course if you win, your chances of success will become bigger.

Look at Carrie Underwood. Lots of critics thrown at her when she win AI in 2005. (Like, she did not connect with the audiences etc etc. Her first album was boring etc etc.) But who is laughing the last. She make a lot in 2008. And my guess, she will be making also tons of money this year too.
