Adam Lambert: “If You Stay Tuned, We’ll Have All the Answers You’re Looking For”

UPDATE: Since I posted this article yesterday, there’s more evidence that the Rolllingstone cover article is going to happen. This item in the New York Post quotes an RS source “that Lambert will be coming out officially on the next cover of Rolling Stone.” and in this hilarious interview with Michelle Collins of Best Week Ever, Adam answers “maybe” with some side glances to his publicist when she asks him about he rumors… Meanwhile, big-mouth Kara DioGuardi has gotten her self some press by telling the gals at the View, that she has no doubts that Adam is out.

Adam Lambert may finally answer the questions about his sexual orientation that have been dogging him since the post-Idol finale press tour began last week.

“If you stay tuned, we’ll have all the answers you’re looking for,” answered Adam in response to a question from Elvis Duran in a Z100 radio interview this morning, “Very very very soon, everybody is going to find out what they need to find out.”

That explains Ryan Seacrest’s mysterious twitter today, “What up adam and kris! crushing it on the today show! Btw adam will address the sexuality speculation soon. They are both superstars!” Oh Ryan, such an insider. NOT.

There’s a rumor going around that Adam’s got a cover story in the next issue of Rollingstone magazine. The speculation is he’ll “come out” via the article.

Throughout his entire Idol journey, Adam has never attempted to hide who he is. Do we really need him to spell it out for us? Seriously, the bulletin is unnecessary as far as I’m concerned. But whatevs. Maybe the press will shut up about it already if he finally admits the obvious.

ETA: I just had another thought. EW’s Adam B. Vary hit Adam up with the sexual preference question the night of the finale. If Adam had been forthcoming, his answer would have overshadowed everything else–including Kris Allen’s win. Adam stealing Kris’s thunder would have been totally uncool. So, journos, how about allowing Adam and Kris to focus on Idol as they make their post-Idol media rounds? ‘Cause the minute Adam ‘fesses up, the gay thing is all you peeps will talk about.

  • brextra

I don’t care if he talks about it. I just don’t want it to be the headline on the cover. It doesn’t need to be THE STORY.

  • colette

MJ, I for one look forward to the day when no one has to spell out anything about their sexuality. I mean, whose business is it anyway?

David Hyde Pierce came out today (shocker!!!!) to announce he is married to his male lover, because of the recent court decision that upholds the gay marriage ban in California. In that case, I can see wanting to throw your celebrity behind an issue of great importance to you personally.

Maybe Adam wants to address that some issue. But otherwise, why can’t Adam enjoy the same privacy most of do about what happens in his life behind closed doors? His fans don’t own that part of him, nor does he owe them any disclosures about his personal life.

Obviously, we’re not to the point yet where we can simply take tolerance and respect for people who differ from the majority for granted. But I hope we get there mighty soon.

  • smokeyvera

Okay guys go to Bestweek.tv and read the article of MAY 28 by Michelle Collins.
The Adam Lambert Interview That will Change your Life. It’s the best and funniest. She even tells him she wants to be his surrogate. Total fangirl. Talks about what he likes, his brother, doing a contest to win a date for his brother, and there are many pictures. OOh dirt in the mansion. Just fabulous and adorable.

  • AC

Congrats to Adam if he does get the cover! Rolling Stone must really want to sell some magazines since they know that all the Glambert fans will buy it. haha. I can see why he didn’t want to out right say he was gay since there’s probably a deal with the magazine but you know all the questions he will get after this will be about him being gay instead of his music. I’m surprised that they’re not waiting until his album comes out to build up more publicity.

  • Lisa

That is the best version of Mad World. Wow. So, so lovely. He just blew me away again. I should not be surprised, lol.

I honestly don’t know why Adam’s sexuality is even an issue. I am a married woman who enjoys listening to beautiful music and Adam has the most beautiful voice I have heard in many a year. It truly is all about the music for me. Adore you Adam for who you are.

  • undercooked

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care if he talks about it. I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want it to be the headline on the cover. It doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t need to be THE STORY.

Yes, if he discusses it, I hope it is only one or two paragraphs. There are so many more interesting things for Adam to talk about. I really don’t want a repeat of the EW cover. I so can’t wait until we DON”T have to go through this “coming out” ceremony with celebs. It really does get old.

  • KrisAllen1

I feel bad for Adam.Who the fuck cares if he’s gay? People act like its a new thing. Why cant Adam be Adam? If he is gay then its his business and nobody
    else’s,

Does he need to send out a bulletin is not really the question. Should he have to is the question. And of course not. But the “pink elephant” is not going to go away. And if he HAS to do a PSA on who he is I love the fact that he gets to be on “the cover of the Rolling Stone” to do it. It’s intrusive and not asked of straight artist so the boy might as well get something out of it!

Plus I subscribe to RS so it will go to my mailbox =)

  • dulce

Why does everyone care so much about whether Adam is gay or straight or whatever? He’s an amazing performer, a great singer, an obviously stand up human being. What else is there to know or care about? There is only a pink elephant in the room if everyone keeps looking for it.

  • GeminiDolly

Im scared for him. Im afraid if he finally does put it in huge pink Letters IM GAY, thats all people will focus on when it comes to him and wont even bother with the music.

  • jms

“admits the obvious” – right there is the reason the press won’t leave him alone and he still has to make a statement. Because in our collective lexicon (though not neccessary our personal ones) we still use the word admit in this context.

  • JenG

LOL. It’s so ridiculous. It’s not like anyone needs it spelled out, it seems obvious that he’s gay. Except, in any interview you watch, everyone kind of skirts around the issue. No one out right says, “Are you gay?” or “Do you think being gay influenced the vote?” Instead we get “Do you think speculation about your sexuality influenced the vote?”

Some people also seem very hesitant to just out right say he’s gay, because he himself hasn’t said he is. Pictures of him kissing boys aside, I think a lot of people want it spelled out for them. And it sucks that he even needs to do a cover story where he comes out. He’s seems to have been out this whole time.

And even though I think it’s ridiculous. And all this round-about speculation is getting tiring. I’ll still make sure to buy the magazine and read what it has to say (that is, if the rumor’s are true… and it seems pretty likely that it is, just look at the Best Week Ever article that was posted up thread.)

He does give a great interview. And at least no one can accuse him of staying in the closet. lol, except maybe Perez.

EDIT: I just want to say, I think it’s obvious that he’s gay based on pictures, his previous boyfriends, and his brother basically outing him on MySpace. lol. All signs point to yes.

  • holeighannie

I understand the PR behind this and the build up has been really great in terms of that, but I really don’t understand why he has to say anything about it. His being gay doesn’t define who he is…and to be honest, there are plenty of other things about him that are more interesting.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Oh my god that *was* the best interview evah! Velvet Goldmine is his favorite movie! I literally just “squeeeeeed!!!” out loud at my office.

  • unique28v

I don’t know. I just don’t think he’s going to confirm anything. I think he’ll address it yes. Oh well. We will find out soon enough like he said.

  • unique28v

I think the real question is though, if he does “come out” and its what everyone thinks, will the interest around him die down?? Is this a bad business decision for him.

  • lola

I’m still giving it a benefit of the doubt that he will tell all. As he said in Sleezak interview, he is a businessman. I guess he knows what he is doing. If ever he admits that he is gay…..well,frankly, I am scared of the other people’s reaction but I know in due time, it will be accepted. Will it affect his popularity? Maybe. I’d rather have people speculating and make it more interesting. But I’m excited to what he has to say.

  • mikeyb

Oh Ryan, such an insider. NOT.

Oh, MJ, you crack me up!

  • papercut

As a fellow Glambert, I am so happy to hear that he’s going to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. I really don’t care if he comes out as gay, straight, or bisexual. It’s not like I will ever have a chance of sleeping with him one way or another. I enjoy the Adam fandom because it is full of fun people to talk with. There is always something new about him. He’s interesting. He can sing his face off. He’s the most interesting celebrity in a while. So, come out if you want, Adam. Nothing’s going to change my feelings for you!

  • luvnlife

My fav gay singers: Freddie, Elton, George Michael, all singers I adore. In fact, George sang “the” song “An Easier Affair”. If you haven’t heard it, give it a Youtube listen. Kinda tells a backstory for Adam “no time for the haters”. I’d post the link but don’t know how. “an easier affair” George Michael, Youtube.
Anyway, I love my music, never been a groupie, so what do I care about their sexual preference? Love the music.

  • KrisAllen1

What more does Adam need to prove that he’s gay? Dye his hair more black?
Kiss more guys in pictures? Paint his toe nails black? Its written all over him
he doesnt need to say it.They should leave Adam alone. He derserves some
    privacy.

  • Ellie2

You know, I don’t think there’s any need for Adam to address his sexuality directly. Partly because it’s his personal business and partly because it’s already been addressed in a thousand indirect ways. If people can’t read the signs then they are either willfully blind or woefully ignorant. But…if it is going to be addressed in Rolling Stone I trust Adam to handle it perfectly and in his own way, just as he has every other interview question. He knows who he is. He knows how much he wants to reveal. And he’s not afraid of controversy (although why his being gay would be controversial is still beyond me). He’s said himself he wants to “get up on his soapbox” a little bit and push buttons. Maybe this is a way for him to start doing that. He can direct the conversation in a style and forum he’s comfortable with. I don’t think Adam would tackle the subject if he didn’t want to and I suspect he will leave enough of a mystery that people will *still* be talking about his sexuality in the future.

  • kate09

Rolling Stone is not a mag about gay issues…I swear I will be so pissed if he gets a RS cover & the entire article is about him being gay. I hope when he says that “everybody is going to find out what they need to find out” he means that he doesn’t need to spell out that he is gay. I think we all know everything we need to already.

Adam is too fabulous for this mess to continue to overshadow him. I am so so sick of it.

I agree that whatever he says in RS, he will leave enough of a door open for all the ladies who love him to continue to hope.

  • wjmtv

Maybe the press will shut up about it already if he finally admits the obvious.

If he does indeed end up uttering those two little words, I would expect this to be a major reason why. He keeps saying, “I want to talk about music,” but as long as this oh-so-exciting-and-gamechanging-issue (not) is out there, that’s all the media will talk about. Even when they do it in code, e.g. if I hear one more question about how to wear eyeliner, I’m gonna spit. (Tho I was glad to hear I’m not the only one who doesn’t necessarily take it all off every night. Heh.)

On a more serious note, he seems pretty serious himself about wanting to let kids know that it’s ok to be different. It’s even ok to be gay. And I don’t know a lot about how to handle that issue, but I can see how it might be a boon to some struggling teens to have him “out and about” as an uberfabulous role model.

    JenG

EDIT: I just want to say, I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s obvious that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay based on pictures, his previous boyfriends, and his brother basically outing him on MySpace.

Yeah, and for those who are really dense, we have Kris’ reaction to the upper bunk story. Even my elderly maiden aunt would be able to decode that one.

  • Tess

I’m getting the feeling that everyone is going to be glad (especially Adam) when he definitively answers the question. It’s not like its going to be a surprise to anyone since Adam has NEVER denied anything, just chosen not to talk about it.

And for anyone to think that this is going to make a knat’s ass difference towards Adam’s career is totally ridiculous. Like others have said before me, since he’s never been in the closet how do you come out.

There have been people who have vigorously denied that they are gay and have then come-out and there is a tiny backlash and then most is forgiven. And for many stars is hasn’t made a bit of difference in the way they are received by fans and non-fans alike. For the few people that still, in this day and age, have trouble coming to grips with alternate life styles it is probably best they just be left out of the equation because for me they aren’t worth even thinking about.

Besides, I would think it would be kind of cool if Adam came out on stage during the AI tour with the beads and feathers and sequins. Realistically I know that won’t happen…but come fall you better believe Adam will really have the time of his life campying it up for an OTT performance somewhere.

  • gingerly

I already have all the answers I’m looking for. I won’t be buying any magazine that sensationalizes Mr. Lambert’s sexual orientation. Of course, I stopped buying Rolling Stone years ago so I won’t be buying it anyhow.

  • moody

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s intrusive and not asked of straight artist so the boy might as well get something out of it!

That’s not entirely true. If Kris weren’t already married the press would be all over him wanting to know if he was straight/gay, had a girlfriend/boyfriend, etc.

  • 77amy77

Ryan’s twitter made me laugh. Is anyone actually speculating about this?

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s intrusive and not asked of straight artist

Oh my….it truly amazes me how many jerks do try and ask this question of anyone who hasn’t blasted their hetrosexual conquests all over the tabloids. Pretty much any male celebrity over the age of 20 who doesn’t have a girl friend is asked “the question” and heaven forbid if a man makes it to 30 without having a string of women in his wake he doesn’t stand a chance. Rags like The National Enquirer and TV filler shows like TMZ make their bread and butter off of this kind of speculation. As long as we have “stupid” people who need to be judgmental about something this will be an issue.

  • KayGee

Yeah, and for those who are really dense, we have Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ reaction to the upper bunk story. Even my elderly maiden aunt would be able to decode that one.,

Count me in that group…and still I don’t understand what Kris’ reaction to Adam liking to be on top has to do with being gay!!!

  • Glenda

ROFL–I spotted it in my 2 year old nephew–why do ppl need signs hung on everything to know what it is? Really?!

I just hope Adam understnds how life for his priors will now change. The media will stalk their every move.

This may be just a case of more information than we need to know.

Just sing Adam. Get that album out–not your proclivities.

  • milly93

Ugh. I don’t want him to come out, mainly because he gives very entertaining answers to dodge that question, lol :biggrin_wp: But I can understand why he wants to get it out – he wants people to stop asking him, I guess. It just bothers me that he’s making such a big deal out of it – saying “stay tuned,” etc. :rolleyes_wp:
But hey… if he’s on the cover of Rolling Stone, I’ll buy it!

  • SparklesATL

    Dear Paps,
    Please take note:
    1. He likes to dress in drag.
    2. There are photos EVERYWHERE of Adam French kissing boys.
    3. Good looking blond haired/blue eyed boy “did’t fit in” in HS.
    4. NO reports of “former girlfriends”

This does not spell “Straight Guy” to me or anyone else that has any clue at all. So why is this such a big freaking deal?

  • lola

I’d like him to say he’s “bi” for the business sense of it. But if that’s not going to happen, it doesn’t matter. He’ll still be on my “A” list.

  • mmb

I have actually re-thought my view on this issue today. While it is clear that Adam is openly gay and should not have to make any sort of public announcement, as he himself said, he is a businessman…the perfect time and way to make a public statement would be within the next month, prior to the tour in a Rolling Stone mag cover story..it is not going to be shocking or controversial bc everyone already knows the truth, and it will put those questions to rest so that when his album comes out in the fall the focus will be on the music and his fabulousness, and not on the sexuality issue

  • Victoria

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Very very very soon, everybody is going to find out what they need to find out.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

This quote makes me think he’s not going to specifcally state if he’s gay/bi. IT just seems worded strangely to me. I don’t think he’s going to give up that “mystery” he has, especially since it’s working in his favor, for now.

But, who knows. Like others have said, I hope his orientation isn’t the main story, however he chooses to address it.

So what, is he bi? (I doubt it.) Because coming out and just saying that he’s gay doesn’t really create much of a buzz. I certainly think everyone knows he’s gay. Unless he’s not gay. (Which I doubt even more.)

I find all the post-Idol news really dumb and boring. I checked the AI boards and it’s all about the voting and AT&T conspiracy. And now this Adam sexuality thing. None of it is really interesting IMO.

  • ciciring

I’m kind of scared. Adam is just a potential star, not a star yet. He doesn’t have a strong fanbase (we have to admit that, fanbase for those reality shows is just like a bubble, when those contestants come to real market, they’ll know). Why some stupid fans think he should come out and fight for something about culture and society? He is not that strong right now!! He has a career to explore. Why people just can’t be more focused on the music alone and let this boy peace? His behaviors have shown so obviously that he is gay, but why people just kept speculating about that and pushed him to say the clear word gay? come on, can’t we find sth. else to focus?? I can imagine that if he really come out, the damage to Adam’s career is much much more than some stupid fans’ imagine. for the haters, of course they want to see that. errrr!!!

  • cwg509

There’s no element of surprise here, and I’m sure whatever he says will be carefully thought out, so I propose that he take the Brangelina route and get some money donated to the charity of his choice in return for the information (such as it is). He is already out, everyone he cares about knows this, his fans aren’t going anywhere, so control the release of the information as much as possible, ideally in return for some good deed.

This does seem to be what Adam is doing: taking what is inevitable (won’t he show up with a boyfriend soon?) and doing it on his terms.

And btw, if it is in RS, this was carefully calculated so as to be in a respected music publication, run by Jann Wenner (well known for coming out publicly), with a hopefully more artistically open audience.

“Miller, of course, has also been rumored to be gay. Previous reports linked him to actor Luke Macfarlane.

We couldn’t care less about Wentworth’s sexual orientation. We just hope he’s happy in love and in life.”

Yes, I agree. If he his addressing this issue publicly, I think RS is a good place to do it. I don’t think it will dominate the article, because there is so much more to talk about. What I don’t want is People and other magazines to follow the story with the “yep, he’s gay” headline. But you know, he needs to live his life comfortably, so whatever works for him works for him. • SparklesATL

Please Adam, don’t say you’re “bi.” I will totally lose respect for you.

I have an extended network of gay male friends (and a few females thrown in for good measure) and they ALL say there is no “bi.”

Here’s what I’ve been told; You tell people you don’t think will approve of your being gay that you are “bi” and it gives them hope you will end up with someone of the opposite sex. “Bi” men or women are just gay people who can tolerate (if sufficiently drunk) having sex with the opposite sex, or someone who hasn’t accepted their own sexuality.

A lot of those dresses in drag pics are from shows he’s done, either in “Hair,” where he played a drag queen, or in cabaret shows and a couple were from parties.

He also has pics out there tonguing with women.

I just don’t think he has been OTT about anything. He is just who he is and is comfortable with it. But, basically his look is very similar to a lot of the Hollywood crowd whether they are straight, gay or bi. Just look at Pete Wentz (Ashley Simpson’s husband), he and Adam dress similarly and both wear guyliner and black nail polish.

SparklesATL, I don’t know that he will say he is bi-sexual, but I think there are people who are sexually attracted to both men & women (w/out needing alcohol LOL). Maybe they prefer one more, but I mean I am straight & there are some men I prefer over other men.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see how this can be real. Why would Adam feature the picture of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Adam kissing Bradà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s everywhere on the Web?

And even though someone did a good job answering the questions about favorate movies, books and such, it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t match what Adam has said in interviews.

This is supposedly his old Friendster. It hasn’t been updated in awhile, so at that point the Brad pic wasn’t all over the web. Also, there are comments from years before he was on Idol. I don’t think it’s a poser. As for the music/books/movies taste, the profile was filled out in 2004. I’m sure his favorites have changed since then.

I think Adam is gay, not bi. Otherwise, I have to disagree with you since I have a very good friend who is. So, yes, it’s possible. He has been with women and men, actively participates in the LGBT interest group of a professional organization. He has lots of gay and straight friends, none of whom question his bi-sexuality.

  • lizland

I hope he does clear it up so it won’t be a talking point anymore. It shouldn’t matter so much to the media or people, but they will never let it rest until he is clear. (although he’s been pretty clear already).

  • cay

I’m surprised at how many people across the internet don’t want him to say the words “I’m Gay”. I guess it will affect him, but damn……..everyone is hounding him to say it. He says it’s a lot of pressure to be the spokesperson for a particular cause and he didn’t want to be it but recognizes that he’s being thrown into this. You know, Gays get bitchy with one another and many don’t like Adam representing Gays because he’s too flamboyant, has done drag, doesn’t dress right, etc. He’s in a no win situation.

I think Rolling Stone will focus on how being gay affected his childhood and his quest to become a pop/rock artist. More about the story of his life and background, with being gay being just part of it. I think he’s proud gay person, and this skirting of the issue has got to be yucky for him.

I know there is alot of discussion on that issue. From the reading I’ve done on the subject over the years, there are people who consider themselves bi-sexual. I have no idea if Adam is gay or bi, not my business. I have women friends who consider themselves bisexual. And I also have a male family friend who was in a relationship with my uncle for years. They split up and he is now married to a woman and has a child. I wouldn’t want to ever nail anyone down to any orientation. That is why I guess I don’t like labels.

Here is the link for wikipedia on the subject.

Not quite true, I grew up with gay male friends (and relatives). They all react to women the same way, but the ones who claim to be bi actually are attracted to some women and they weren’t under the influence. One of my closest gay friends fell in love with a woman and is happily married. The most famous gay entertainer Freddie Mercury died still in love with his ex-girlfriend, left her almost all of his estate (his boyfriend of 6 years got the same as his parents about 500,000 pounds) and called her his common-law wife and told any gay who mocked him to shove it that Mary was a part of him and he loved her and to get used to it, that he liked men and women and that was that. She just couldn’t deal with the bi thing but they remained very close. David Bowie is another example of a person who has lived the ‘bi” life all of his life.

  • cookbunny

Huh…you know, it could be that he IS bi or even straight, and we’ll just be so damn shocked because “well, he’s so OBVIOUSLY gay,” right? I mean, what constitutes gay, straight, feminine, masculine, anyway? DAMN I gotta find a gender studies scholar and get a research study out of this!

SparklesATL I respectfully disagree. I think that some people actually allow themselves the freedom not to view the world in such a black-and-white way. The author Dave Eggers wrote of a sexuality scale with 1 being “Totally Straight” and 10 being “Totally Gay”. I know many people who place themselves as a 4, 5, or 6. But I do agree, there is a lot of pressure (from all sides) to put oneself into a box. Pressure that is less prevelant now than in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Regarding Adam, I don’t care — As long as he finishes his album soon. It is really about his music and who he is to me — I don’t care who he chooses to love.

And, I really don’t think there is much of a secret. He described it as the “pink elephant” in the room. It doesn’t take a lot to figure that out.

I wish Adam would read this blog because I have some thing to say.

Adam, you do not owe any one an answer about your sexuality. Don’t make a statement just because people are bugging you to give an answer. It’s no one’s business. Don’t get roped into this little ridiculous game the media is playing!! It’s just a bunch of media people trying to make a name for themselves by getting what they consider “a scoop”. If you answer them…they win!!

  • michaelteal

I identify as both gay and bi…I prefer other men, but I’ve been with women before and enjoyed it. I just don’t want to live that kind of lifestyle (the heterosexual kind of lifestyle). I understand why some gay people feel the need to shout “IT’S NOT A CHOICE IT’S JUST HOW WE ARE BORN” from the rooftops, but I also get worried that that reinforces the idea that being gay is wrong. Why shouldn’t someone choose to be with someone of the same sex? But likewise, if someone identifies as gay and suddenly feels themselves attracted to someone of the opposite sex, why should they have to deny that? Sexuality is messy and complicated and fluid and I doubt any of us very easily fit into the sexual orientation boxes presented to us.

That is partly why I think Adam Lambert is different than other people who’ve “come out” publicly. Partly because his situation challenges the whole idea of a closet – why is it still potentially slander to call someone gay if they haven’t stated the words “I am a homosexual”??? – but also because he embraces an underground queer scene. He’s not a Neil Patrick Harris (who I still love) who’s basically just a guy who happens to like guys. Lambert flaunts it and we love it for him. People keep asking if he lost votes because of his sexuality, and he may have; but that’s also part of what people love about him. My mother is one of the most homophobic people I know, and she still sees Elton John EVERY time he comes to town. People often accept difference in performers that they might not want to accept in their next-door neighbors.

  • lola

Just for the fun of it, I think his best answer to address his orientation will be – “I am anyone you want me to be.”

  • Ellie2

    Are you for real?

I do agree with whoever said earlier that if Adam is going to discuss the gay issue this is the best possible time to do it. The RS issue will be out in a few weeks, after all this post-Idol stuff is over and when Adam is getting ready for the tour. He won’t be doing as much press for the next few months and the issue can die down before his album drops.

  • leome

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Cause the minute Adam à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹fesses up, the gay thing is alll you peeps will care about.

The gay thing is what peeps have been caring about for months now. The difference is that till he says it, there’s always that interrogation mark. Not true. I have a friend who was in a relationship for 14 years with another woman. She is now involved with a man about 20 years her junior. Maybe I should tell her she isn’t bi-sexual. She was just waiting for the right man to come along! :rolleyes_tb: I know of others who have been involved with both males and females and were sober at the time.

As for the twitter – and other public accounts – on his blog Neil Lambert tells everyone not to believe a poster on YouTube who goes by “AdamLambert2009″ was indeed Adam. “He’s more subtle than that,” says Neil. I think the same would apply here.

To me, the answer to the question is irrelevant. However, with him being so high-profile after Idol, it’s just not going to go away, and the longer it’s not addressed _ by him I mean _ the bigger it’s going to get and it’s in danger of overtaking what really matters, which is when do we get a CD??
So yeah …. it’s time to shoot that pink elephant.

Ditto!! What better example could he set for others than just going about living his life, with no explanation, encouraging people just to accept you for who you are without having to make a statement.

Honestly, I find it very disappointing that he is going to do this. The way he has answered the ‘question’ until now has sufficed except for the damn nosey media sticking their nose where it doesn’t belong. I’m sorry but I don’t think America for the mostpart is open-minded enough to accept an openly gay artist from the start. I think this will hurt him and cause him to loose a good portion of prospective female fans. The mystique is part of the charm. The not knowing builds an attraction.

….and who the hell is Kara to say anything about Adam? I’m really sick of this little game they seem to have built up around who he sleeps with. It’s all sad, very sad. I just wish he’d live his life and never answer to it.

  • star

This is all so stupid and pointless. I just want to know what record label he’s signed with.

    From that ABC article:

The 27-year-old musical theater veteran’s penchant for eyeliner, nail polish and hair gel led many to believe that he is homosexual.

WTF are you kidding me? Seriously??! There are so many things wrong with this statement it’s laughable.

Obviously I disagree. After this press tour, this will all die down, it won’t be at such an intense level. Is he or isn’t he is not going overshadow what matters to those who don’t give a crap…….those who are going to buy the damn CD. The NEED to know by those who don’t need to know is sickening and I wish he wouldn’t pander to them. You’re kidding yourself if you think his making a statement is going to take away the focus on the ‘pink elephant’. It’s never going to go away because it will be all about the ‘gay’ afterward (if that’s what he says). Anything he does will always be overshadowed by it especially in the US.

  • maturin

The older you get, the less you believe in the boxes.

I’ve been around long enough to know: middle-aged men who now identify as gay who once were closeted and married to women and laugh about it/remain on good terms with them; the loudest, most political self-proclaimed dyke at my college who is now married to a man; a gorgeous, busty, very feminine southern belle and former beauty pageant queen whose been married to two men and now lives happily with her very butch female partner who’s only ever been with women; a young, idyllic, much-envied married couple where the husband has finally identified as gay and hates it; a closeted but sexually active gay Catholic priest who’s out only in the summer at the end of Cape Cod (yeah, I know).
Also, a lovely longtime male-couple who were finally able to marry this year and have been together and faithful for twenty years; a macho, butch bear who’s made millions selling software and looks like he belongs in Forbes magazine and lives the wildest nightlife ever, every night in a gay bar . . . and votes republican. Gays who’ve gone straight, straights who’ve gone gay, whatevs. And that’s just one person’s social circle! Admittedly, an eccentric one, but still.

There really are no boundaries that force us to be one thing. What you’re absolutely sure of in one year of your life may not be the case many years later.

So, go Adam, define yourself for yourself. And keep that laugh, it’s awesome.

  • Ellie2

Well, as a female fan the knowing vs. not knowing (even though I already know) doesn’t make a bit of difference as far as how hot Adam is or his sex appeal. Gay or straight the man is walking, talking sex and most women I know, from the old to the teen-agers, feel the same way. I don’t think officially coming out will hurt him. Especially because I suspect he’ll handle it all in the way that only Adam can.

  • weese

Oh I think Adam’s just marketing himself. He must feel he got as much traction out of this question as he can. When people were voting it might have made sense to keep them guessing. Now he will be more interesting discussing it.

  • lola

Kara is the same one who said I have six words for you…and who called Adam a rock god (not goddess). I guess she’s also needing publicity since she got bashed with her song.

  • sallyas1

I think it is time for Adam to come out to the press. In a perfect world he would not have to address questions like this. But this isn’t a perfect world. And Adam knows that.

Should he have to, of course not. But the questions aren’t going to stop, and the speculation is going to overshadow the music soon. Get it out now and move on.

The View should have never asked Kara that question, but they aren’t exactly the high class of tv either so I’m not totally surprised they went there. Kara should have refused to answer the question and just moved the conversation to something else. She’s been in the business a long time. I would think she would know how to do that. But then she’s been writing songs for a long time as well, and well that didn’t help her any.

I don’t think it will hurt Adam to come out. Most people already realize he’s gay. I think it will hurt him more if he keeps avoiding it and saying things like, “Keep speculating!” That works to a point but I think people would start to get bored with it.

Adam is one smart cookie. He is the male Madonna in the sense that he seems to be comfortable in controversy.

Obviously Adam is teasing everyone about what he will say in Rolling Stone so lots of peope will buy it. Then Rolling Stone will know that an Adam cover will sell magazines, and perhaps they will give him another cover when his album comes out.

    Great album cover.
    Name of CD “Dead Elephants”.
How about a “Pink Elephant” tour?

FWIW I don’t think he is going to “say the words”.
I think he might make an offhand reference to it at some point as far as telling a story and then let that be that. It will be there in print to satisfy the press, but certainly won’t appear as any sort of declaration.

Just keep in mind his deftness the past couple of days in answering to Clay and Simmons. He will handle this amazingly well just like he does everything else.

  • kate09

Adam is 27 years old. Clearly he’s been with men in the past, perhaps been with women, but at 27 how many of us had it all together & knew exactly what & who we wanted? Maybe he doesn’t have a media friendly way of saying that he he does what (& who!) he wants & doesn’t put restrictions or labels on himself. It’s not always as simple as ‘I am gay’ or ‘I am straight.’

  • clearone

Maybe he doesn’t care that his fanbase won’t grow any larger in the US. Maybe they are going to focus on the international market where sexuality is not an issue. I just can’t shake the feeling that doing this so early, is going to hurt him. I guess if it does, then he’ll always know he tried.

I just really hate the thought of his first major interview and magazine cover off of Idol, is going to be about this. Would RS even put him there if they hadn’t got the ‘scoop’?

I didn’t read the cover story of Clay when he was on, but I don’t think it was discussed? Or if it was, we know he didn’t come out. So yeah, they could just put him on because they think he is an awesome vocalist and the interest of Queen is worthy of a closer look.

    Regarding teh Friendster page:

Well, I read his profile and from everything I have seen or heard from Adam this matches him to a T. Some of the things he lists in the profile are stuff that have only come up in the last day or two. And, besides, why for the love of Adam would someone take the time to make this up.

Sorry, it’s a fake. I agree the favorite music list on the page is a pretty cool list, but it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t match with Adam’s past comments. For starters, the Friendster page doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t include Michael Jackson, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lady GaGa, or Katy Perry on his list. And it doesn’t list Astrology as an interest. There are similar issues with the book list and the movie list.

And it’s better than many of the fake twitter accounts and the online dating profiles. My “favorite’ bad fake is Adam Lambert 88 year old man profile.

Not content to have written the worldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s worst song, now Idol judge (former judge?) Kara DioGuardi is going on TV seeking her 15 minutes of fame by talking about Adam Lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sexuality

Why does Kara need to wreck everything?

So, go Adam, define yourself for yourself. And keep that laugh, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s awesome.

They asked Clay and he lied about it in the interview. Of course, he wasn’t ‘out’ at the time but I don’t doubt part of the interest by RS was because of all the speculation surrounding if he was or wasn’t gay.

  • annabelina

There really are no boundaries that force us to be one thing. What youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re absolutely sure of in one year of your life may not be the case many years later.

Absolutely true. *sings* There are no boundaries! ;)

I had a professor in college once that said if you check a box, the box checks you back. People, especially the media, is obsessed with defining people. Sometimes it’s just not that important to check a box. The media’s obsession with people’s sexuality in particular irks me. Adam is a musician and an entertainer, not a porn star, so does it really matter all that much?

  • Victoria

Sorry, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a fake. I agree the favorite music list on the page is a pretty cool list, but it doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t match with Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s past comments. I’m not saying the Friendster is real, but his interests could have changed over the years. Maybe he wasn’t as into Astrology back then. Also, Katy hadn’t hit the music scene yet in 2004, and Lady GaGa didn’t even exist yet. As for Michael, Pink, and Christina, his musical tastes could have easily changed since then.

ETA: Also, who would bother to make an Adam Lambert Friendster profile back in 2004, other than Adam? That doesn’t make any sense.

  • KayGee

Count me in that groupà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and still I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand what Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ reaction to Adam liking to be on top has to do with being gay!!!

    Are you for real?

I was serious and I looked it up to see what the implication was, and still I DON’T CARE if Adam is gay or straight. I like him for being Adam…

I am still not convinced that he is gay – I tell everyone that ihis sexuality is being questioned, and that “I” believe that he just likes to live big…I like that, he has no constrictions on his life, he is a grown assed man, and he can do whatever he chooses…He pays his own bills and that gives him the right to do what he chooses!!!

  • undercooked

I think it will hurt him more if he keeps avoiding it and saying things like, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Keep speculating!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ That works to a point but I think people would start to get bored with it.

Good point. But if the media gets bored with the coy responses, they ought to just MOVE ON, stop bringing it up, and get the eff over it already. IMHO. (you hear that, you rabid paparazzi you?! LOL). I got bored to death of the topic about 2 seconds after it first came up, because it’s totally irrelevant to his music (for me, for him) – unless one wants to speculate that “it” makes him more “sensitive and in touch with his feminine side” and therefore able to “feel” the music more. Bahaha – I can’t even say/type that with a straight face. I could be totally and utterly incorrect of course (it does happen occasionally, LOL), but I’d bet real money Adam wishes he didn’t have to address the issue at all.

  • SLR

I love Adam – I think he is sexy and a truly remarkable talent, and it doesn’t matter one whit what his preference is. I laugh with every post that says so adamently that Adam is gay. Unless we are in the bedroom with him, we really don’t know the answer to the question. I am 58 years old and in my lifetime, I have met several men that I would have sworn were gay only to find out that they were straight. It’s very possible that Adam is a straight man who has cultivated sexual ambiguity to fit in with the gay club circuit in Los Angeles. Regardless of if or when he comes out, I will still buy his music!

  • Ellie2

    ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the future fans, the ones who will look at him and go à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹well heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand a chance (not that they ever do but you know how some minds work)à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ or à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹well heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay what a hypocrite coming on to women like thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢.

I see your point and maybe I’m painting with too broad a brush here, but I think that people who think that way are probably not the type who would be inclined to become Adam fans anyway, regardless of the gay issue. Like Adam said, he thinks the AI vote swung more based on his musical style, the way he dresses, his make-up, etc. I think Adam tends to draw an open-minded crowd and that won’t change whether he officially comes out or not.

  • Anastasia72071

If he comes out openly, I would admire him but majority won’t. But here’s my take. If he admits he’s gay, he is trying to make a statement which only a few have dared – that gay people have a place in the society.

  • abbysee

I hate it, but I think he needs to say something. For all of us who know he is gay, he is out to us and has nothing to proclaim. But there are a lot of people will equate this with Clay Aiken’s’ deal, or worse, that he is playing up the question for more media speculation. I love the wink and smile with a bit of double entendre answer. I mean I am in on the joke. For others like those still thinking that they were duped by Clay, Adam’s ‘silence’ equals falsehood.

I hope that he finesses it gives it short shrift, because he’s so much more than gay. We are so juvenile as a country. He can be gay, and have women throw panties….as a rule I hate that gesture, but I should start a movement for that specific purpose because I don’t care that I won’t get none……I just want the music, but he being gay doesn’t mean that he isn’t one sexy man. I hope in his proclamation, he remembers that. I hope that this will take place in the Rollingstone and nowhere else. Say whatever you need to say, and then move on.

  • CDCIdol

Seems like our favorite songwriting judge outed Adam. Kara is so annoying. Its his business, why does she have to comment at all on his lifestyle?

Re comments – The profile was just set under the name Adam. It would have been very difficult to find.

Re Wicked – Good point. I’m not up on my musical theatre. Was Wicked running in then? ETA: The profile was updated at least in 2006, if not later. So the Wicked part could be valid.

    the ones who will look at him and go à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹well heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand a chance

That would only apply to female fans. I’m sure his gay male fans are happy to think they might “have a chance.”

  • alxsavage

I have had the feeling that Adam was going to come out after the season was over since I saw his Top 13 interview saying that he was proud of being who he was, and there was nothing to hide. My girlfriend told me that it was ridiculous to believe that he was going to come out in the first interview. I told her that I didn’t think he would, but still, he was going to find the right channel to do it. Seems like we were both right.

I’m glad to see that for most of the fans and readers of this site, it does not matter if he comes out or not. Being gay myself, Adam seems like the kind of person that cares about activism, about inspiring, about making a difference. He seems like the kind of person that hangs out with activists (which is great). It won’t matter for most of his female fans, hopefully, some teenage hearts still in denial will be broken, but for some people, still in the closet among their families, this will make a small difference, a small inspiration. I have the feeling that Adam was there, and he knows this. I’ve been there. Sometimes you need to make a statement. Heck we’ve seen who Adam is, as MJ said, he stayed true to himself even during the competition, he is the guy who performed Ring of Fire! If he comes out, I don’t believe for a second, that it will be because of the pressure. If he does it on the cover of RS, it will be just like that time when he came down from the stairs performing Feeling Good in a white suit. This is the guy who knows how to make a statement, yes he is a business man, but I don’t think he is willing to sacrifice being true to himself.

Ellen Degeneres didn’t have any obligation to come out, but she did and believe me, she has inspired many young girls that needed someone to stand up for them (myself included), and she does make a difference. She is still adored by housewives all around your country and people adore her and Portia being together.

Will this damage his career? I don’t think so. I mean, homophobic people already dislike him, so how would it make a difference?

And I agree with MJ, it was obvious that he was not going to make such a statement the day that all the news were going to be about Kris Allen as the American Idol. Adam is smart enough to release that, I actually read that interview on the morning, and thought it was ridiculous for anyone to believe that Adam was going to come out in a 5 minutes interview (I’m talking about you Perez!).

I could still be wrong, but these are my 2 cents, being an Adam fan and gay myself (and a girl), I was supposed to be supporting the rocker girl, and while I loved Allison, I truly fell in love with Adam’s talent.

  • undercooked

I agree Abbysee. I have a feeling he will. I think he does like the fact that women think he is sexy, and I think he likes to play that card, even if after the show, he doesn’t act on it.

Oh, there is always something with Adam isn’t there. It’s never just, oh, look, Adam is on idolatry. Now we all have to wait for the RS issue to see if he discusses the gay issue. Of course we had the Bill O’Reilly Christian issue, the Clay and Gene Simmons’ comments, the Michael Sarver comments. Then the text-gate. Let’s not forget the EW covers, Burning Man photos, etc.

You know, it hasn’t been an easy road for Adam fans. There always seems to be something to worry about!

ETA- But I will say, Adam is never dull.

  • lola

I agree undercooked. We have to ride the rollercoaster with him. It’s tough but I hope everything turns out to be for the best.

I agree with you on this, but as someone who was a Carly fan last year, it wasn’t really that hard!

Most of the time, at least for me, as an Adam fan, there has always been something to be proud or excited about.

  • SuzieQ

Like Adam said on Idolatry, he is also a businessman, so I think this is a strategic move on his part to come out on his own terms. Plus I think he honestly does not want to take anything away from Kris’s moment, although the media seems to be doing that on its own.

Anyways, guess Kara just outed him before he even gets a chance to do it himself: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/SummerConcert/story?id=7701556&page=1

But how was he in Wicked in 2004? I could have read that incorrectly

Read the thing from top to bottom and the only reference to Wicked was that it was one of his favorite books (“Having sold three-quarters of a million copies since its 1995 publication”).

I don’t understand why people think it is a fake? Is it because Adam declares himself as gay?

  • undercooked

Most of the time, at least for me, as an Adam fan, there has always been something to be proud or excited about.

Oh, I think we are all proud and excited, but it is like watching someone walk a tight rope. It’s amazing that they can do it but you are scared for them. The good thing is that the more I see him being interviewd the more it seems like the media scrutiny doesn’t bother him. I hope that perception is correct. Because if he is happy and content, then, well there is nothing to worry about.

  • smartcookie

I liked Nathan Lane’s response to the same kind of constant harranguing. “Look, I’m 40, I’m single, and I work in musical theater — you do the math!”

  • lurksalot

Just a curiosity question. Since Adam is under contract, how would the proceeds from such a cover/story be handled?
Clay didn’t come out until he was no longer under contract — and received a sizable sum for doing so.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand why people think it is a fake? Is it because Adam declares himself as gay?

It says that one of his affilations is the Company: Fiyero u/s in Wicked 1st National Tour.

Since there are so many fake twitter accounts, facebook accounts etc., people are taking this site with a grain of salt. It could be real, but there is so much fake stuff out there. I don’t think it has anything to do with him stating that he is gay, just that there are way too many weirdos out there pretending to be Adam.

  • ohreli

I think Adam should continue to steer focus away from his sexuality, and making a big “coming out” is going to steer focus toward it. Its no one’s business anyway. Besides, it wont help his career, and could even hurt it. “Speculation” and “mystery” appeals to the public, but coming out may not. Look what happened to Anthony Callea’s record sales after he came out. It was definitely NOT helpful.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

The 27-year-old musical theater veteranà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s penchant for eyeliner, nail polish and hair gel led many to believe that he is homosexual.

By these standards every Goth Boi I ever knew was gay. That thought process is so outdated it is down right quaint and Brady Bunchish.

  • emieloo

It really doesn’t matter since it’s old and he obviously doesn’t use it anymore, but regarding the Friendster thing – it’s real. Adam and I ran in the same circles back in the day and have many of the same friends… and a bunch of those people are on his friends list. So either it’s a real profile page or an Adam impostor “fooled” a bunch of people he actually knows in real life. :)

  • Venomscorpie

MJ, I know you have so many comments in your thread, but please please show this article in your site : http://www.fafarazzi.com/out.php?id=544773

It’s the best fangirly Adam Lambert interview EVER. I love how Michelle (the interviewer) express exactly what all Adam’s fans feel.

Abt him ‘coming out’ oooh puleeazee, we have seen his ex-bf and his current bf every single week during Idol (yeah I know how to differentiate them with his brother, Neil). So he has nothing to hide, some people are just not quick enough to see it.

  • Justin8602

ugh…I’m so annoyed with this topic…at the very least Adam is clearly bi-sexual, but who honestly gives a flying fig? This is yet another reaon why America is so freaking lame. I’m seriously thinking about moving to Canada. I pray that if the Rolling Stone cover is true that the whole gay/straight/bi topic is mentioned in 1 paragraph or less, and that it is not featured on the cover with a headline like “Yeah! I’m Gay”…it’s so not important.
I’m a 27 year old guy and I personally have played on both teams at one point or another in my life. My close friends know my past, and on occasion do expect me to label myself as one of those 3…but even at 27, I can’t be absolutely certain which label to give myself. If I say I’m gay, then I’m expected to be “in your face” out and proud, If I say I’m straight then I’m not being “true” to myself, and If I say I’m bi then I’m just confused/in denial. I’m happy with who I am and feel that love is not gender specific, If I fall in love with a guy, great, if I fall in love with a girl that’s great too. So with that in mind, I would have to label myself as “bi”…but again for some people that isn’t a valid answer, because most people either want it completely to the left side or the right side.
I apologize if using myself as an example seems off topic, but it was the easiest way I could think to illustrate the frustration of this supposed “news”.
One more thing, Kara, Perez and Ryan are absolutely horrible for their comments in the media…apparently none of them have ever heard of words like respect and tact. (We all new that gross ass Perez didn’t know those words already though)

Clay didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t come out until he was no longer under contract à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and received a sizable sum for doing so.

Clay’s coming out had nothing to do with him being under contract with a record company. I don’t think there is any record contract that one would sign forbidding you to declare your orientation. Personally, I think Clay’s coming out was a business move. He wasn’t moving units, so why not state the obvious, for some serious loot!

  • downeast

I’ve said this elsewhere, but I’ll say it here…The thing that has always pissed me off about “he should ADMIT he’s gay!!!” is that the implication is that it’s something to be ashamed of. You don’t have to “ADMIT” you’re a Rhodes scholar. You don’t have to “ADMIT” you’re a hospice volunteer. You don’t have to “ADMIT” that you give money to charity.

Who Adam chooses to have sex with is none of my business. Zero. Niente. As long as it’s with humans of legal age, I could give a rat’s nethers.

It’s shameful to me that this is still such a hot issue in this day and age.

One of the funniest posts I’ve read lately (and I wish I could remember where, because I would happily give that poster the credit), was, “OMG!!!! Did you know that Ruben was BLACK!!!! Who knew!!! He should have admitted it!”

Exactly. To quote Himself, It don’t matter if you’re Black or White. And whether you sleep with men or women or both at the same time, it ain’t nobody’s business but your own.

  • abbysee

Did you know that Ruben was BLACK

Oh shit, I missed that memo! So he’s a brutha? Why didn’t he tell us sooner? I wouldn’t have spent all of my money following him around that year after he won idol………see how silly that looks? Can’t wait to get to that point as far as orientation is concerned.

Ha! When Clay came out, there was a thread on the official boards called something like “WHOA! CLAY IS GAY!” and another thread was created quickly afterwards called “WHOA! RUBEN IS BLACK!” It was actually a pretty hilarious thread, especially for that board (which tends to be more scary, less funny IMO). :laugh_tb:

  • Tess

Since Adam is under contract, how would the proceeds from such a cover/story be handled?

I know the Idol contestant contract is pretty broad….but unless someone can show me otherwise I would assume that Adam is able “allowed” to interview with whomever he pleases and to accept monetary gain for said interviews. He isn’t indentured to AI, is he?

I think that it is rather amusing that there is still an assumption floating around that Adam isn’t gay. He had a long standing “relationship” with another man, who has been incredibly decent to not seek his own 15 minutes of fame…and I think that says a lot for how much Adam is respected and returns respect. His brother has said that he is gay, his parents have alluded to the fact a hundred ways. The only reason that the press want Adam, now, to reitterate the fact is so that they can speak to him openly without using all the stupid silly euphonisms that Adam has had to skirt around the past five months.

Adam is gay. Adam is proud of who he is. If people can’t accept who he is they can take their puritanical prejudices and stuff them! There are enough decent, well mannered, socially conscious, “human beings” around that will continue to support him.

  • hwc

Is Adam settng us up? Cover story in Rolling Stone titled “Kiss and Tell” the same day his first single, “Kiss and Tell” is released?

    Just saying… that’s what I would do.

  • TKat

If he comes out openly, I would admire him but majority wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. But hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s my take. If he admits heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay, he is trying to make a statement which only a few have dared – that gay people have a place in the society.

I actually think that it won’t have much effect on Adam’s commercial success. If he produces great music, he’ll be a megastar. If he doesn’t produce great music, he’ll have a long career performing, on Broadway and/or in Las Vegas. I think the best PR strategy if to answer the question now, long before his album comes out. Otherwise, the question will just continue on.

It’s easy to forget that we have come a long way. We even have an openly gay Republican US Senator from Arizona — a red state. I think that there are always going to be “haters” but most Americans don’t really care if a entertainer is gay, bi- or straight. Countless entertainers, writers and designers, and many of the best selling recording artists, are gay and successful.

    Great album cover.
    Name of CD à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dead Elephantsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ .
    How about a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Pink Elephantà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ tour?

That would be so Adam! I wonder if they will let him be on stage with a couple of pink elephants on the Idol tour?

  • clearone

This is just down right insulting.

I guess this just all begs the question why now? Why not have just made the statement when the pictures surface and have called it a day? I think this is all AI generated publicity and it’s sickening. If Adam has been so out and so proud for so long I would think he wouldn’t have had a problem making a statement then but AI put the gag order on so as to not stifle his chances at getting to the Top 2 or 3. Now we’ve got Ryan Twittering and Kara flapping her lips. Who tomorrow? Probably Paula. 19 is no doubt getting a good fee for the big story and I doubt Adam has a whole lot to say in the matter. Like I said, I hope it doesn’t backfire on him because if it does, 19 will drop him like a hot potato.

Bah. I’m not looking for answers, and neither is any other normal human being.

I’d bet any amount of money that he has long since been out to family, friends, co-workers and anyone else who has any actual role in his life. And on Idol, he was merrily singing along, gathering fans, who merrily voted along, knowing but not caring that he dated men. This issue is a media creation, whether it’s to bash him, stay “neutral”, say it’s a non-issue, or complain that he doesn’t represent. It was created first and last by media/blogger world.

Normally, I’d say they’re just feeding off our sick culture that treats artists as celebrities and uses that as an excuse to pry into people’s private lives. In this case, I don’t think there was much of any public pull on this at all.

I’m not usually a media basher (poor things are dying left and right), and I’m very pro-blog when it comes to exposing real issues that the established media drags its heels on (*cough* Palin *cough). But in this case, they got it wrong.

That said, Adam should do whatever he wants to get things to a state that makes sense to him.

  • downeast

Right now I’m to the point where I would sincerely, totally love it if Adam’s statement on this topic was, “Hey you know what? I’ve been with women and with men. It depends on the individual as to how attracted I am to him/her and how attracted to we are to each other.”

Because you know what, nobody puts Adam in a corner. OR in a box labelled “gay” or “straight,” just because it makes him easier to categorize and dismiss. He won’t let anyone do that to him in terms of his music; I’m hoping he won’t let anyone do that to him because of his sex life.

  • Tess

It says that one of his affilations is the Company: Fiyero u/s in Wicked 1st National Tour.

Sorry Undercooked I missed that. The 1st National Tour was like Jan. 2006 and the LA presentation was Jan 2007. Considering a few other things on the site were updated in 2006-2007 I am sure the “headlines” were updated. The profile at the bottom was 2004 and does not seem to have been updated since it was initially posted.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“admits the obviousà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ – right there is the reason the press wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t leave him alone and he still has to make a statement. Because in our collective lexicon (though not neccessary our personal ones) we still use the word admit in this context.

    Indeed, and well said.

Haven’t read all the comments, and don’t know if I will, but the discussion of bisexuality has me intrigued in a not very happy way. I’m no expert, by any stretch, though I have many friends who are gay and a few who are bi-sexual. To me, telling bisexuals that they are not bi- because there’s no such thing is akin to telling gays and lesbians that being gay or lesbian is a choice. I mean, seriously, isn’t it just one group of people who feel that their way is natural passing judgment on the allegedly unnatural ways of another?! Man, oh, man, does it ever stop???

With that, I’m heading out of this conversation. But I do appreciate the links to interviews and reviews provided on page one. Those were really good!

Whether this contradicts what I said before, I have no idea (although I’m keeping shoot the pink elephant line, because I like it), but unless Adam comes out and says “I kill kittens for kicks” I don’t care what he does, with whom, as long as he makes a fantastic album with talented contributers (Queen … Slash …. ) and gets it out there as soon as possible

  • 4got

I think Adam needs to learn from Led Zeppelin. The major reason for their success besides the music was because they kept a mystery around them. I don’t understand why he needs to feed the pap wolves.

  • yummystars

I believe Adam Lambert when he says he wasn’t thinking about winning AI, but he did want to use it to further his career and also use the show as a platform. If he had been so bent on winning, he probably would have tried to hit it down the middle more, scrapping his take on Ring of Fire (which I loved) for one thing.

I feel two ways about it: I’m sorry that in this age of media saturation, there is no longer any question of a celebrity having a private life. That’s kind of a shame. Sexual ambiguity or being gay is nothing new in rock music, but talking about it openly is. I think in one way it’s a smarter career choice to keep the ambiguity going, because let’s face it, part of the reason a male actor or singer becomes very successful is because women can relate to being with him in that moment on the screen or sung to onstage. Since there are more straights than gays out there, a gay celebrity loses some steam career-wise when coming out. That may not be true for women but it does seem to somewhat dampen the careers of men who are out.

Another good thing about sexual ambiguity is that it seems part and parcel of the rock god experience. Someone in Britain calling Lambert a “pansexual” is apt. People, lots of them, are attracted to him. And there’s something nice and freeing about this mystery that maybe someone with that vibe could be attracted to various sorts of people in the right circumstances.

But on the other hand, in this day of no secrets for celebs, with one leering interview question at a time, he must come out or he comes off as insincere, coy, or most ridiculous, ashamed. I hope he is going to do something that hasn’t been done before, be that openly-gay male celeb who has this huge career and is wanted and adored by millions worldwide. Whatever happens, he will still have a great career and is doing something more important: sticking up for gay youth everywhere. He can help bring about some big cultural shift. I’m a straight girl and I’m proud of the guy.

One addendum: Despite all the buzz over it, I don’t think his sexually-charged persona hurt him at all on Idol. I think it helped, in fact. I think he lost because of not so great song choice at the end, both those given to him and those he chose himself. One more beautiful moody delicate heartbroken ballad and he would have carried it off. But I’m glad about the way things turned out. I think Kris is awesome and also I don’t want Adam having to go more mainstream in his first album than he would like. So things turned out great.

  • oceana

It’s a damned lie that people can’t be bisexual. Total b.s. Sexuality runs the scale from ultra hetero on both sides, to bisexual which is in the center, to everywhere in between.

It pisses me off when anyone tries to decide what other people’s sexuality is. I think sexuality is very fluid for many people. Not everyone is firmly this, that, or the other.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

The gay thing is what peeps have been caring about for months now. The difference is that till he says it, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s always that interrogation mark. When he says, it will make headlines for a while and maybe everyone can move on from that. Enough is enough and honestly ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s time to start talking about other things.

The point I was trying to make: If Adam comes out now, it overshadows Kris’s Idol win. Adam and Kris need to be allowed to at least get through the post-Idol news cycle if the issue is going to be addressed. If Adam were to come out now, there’d be all kinds of backlash about Adam trying to steal Kris’s thunder…

  • piperlily

Wish there was a way to get back at the media for making this an issue.
Obviously from all the responses even just here, we don’t care and love him anyway. Poor Adam — at least he’s got the skills and wit to deal with these media jerks.

  • Tess

I’m enjoying this discussion, by the way since the fact that it won’t matter a smidgen to Adam one way or the other.

    1. Adam didn’t say anything while on American Idol because he didn’t want to.

    2. Adam is proud of who he is and hides NOTHING.

    3. Hopefully, since the media wants a STORY that isn’t really a story since Adam is hiding absolutely nothing I hope whomever he gave or gives the interview to is paying him a lot of big bucks.

    4. And if he contracted for an exclusive he is obligated to not say anything until that contract is fulfilled.

  • Tess

The major reason for their success besides the music was because they kept a mystery around them.

What mystery…..were they gay? Just joking!

  • linsav

I think that Adam will be Adam. He said in the most recent RS interview:

“Is any part of you disappointed with America?
I have to say it was a little bit of social pressure projected on me by just trying to be the quote un quote à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“different oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ all the supposed insights into my sexuality and my alternativeness and all my what have you, I think there were some people who were kind of like, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Well, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s changing your Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹ and all this hype and pressure to make a change for America. It kind of got overhyped a little bit. ”

I think he will do what he has been doing and say he is who he is, he is sexual and has nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

He is smart and he is really trying not to take the focus off of Kris in any OTT way.

They’re doing to Adam just what they did to Clay Aiken. Why do people need to know, and why do they think it’s any of their business? Such danged busy bodies. If I were Adam, I’d just let people think what they want to think. Every interviewer asks the same question. Is this going to make or break his career? Is it going to detract from his singing? I think not!

  • RubySlippers

    FOR the LOVE of UGH!!

Psst. He’s gay. Is this news???!!
Even the most casual viewer of AI knows this.

The REAL news is that he is an extraordinary talent and we have witnessed and are witnessing the coming out of his rise to stardom.

  • TKat

Read the thing from top to bottom and the only reference to Wicked was that it was one of his favorite books (à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Having sold three-quarters of a million copies since its 1995 publicationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ).

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand why people think it is a fake? Is it because Adam declares himself as gay?

Tess, I think it’s fake because this Adam “forgot” some of his favorite music, book and movies. And it doesn’t sound anything like the old MySpace page.

And, I don’t believe that he would post the picture from 2004 New Years that he didn’t know existed until it showed up on the Web on his Friendster page.

But I have no problem about Adam being gay or bi- Who cares?

Why is it surprising that this might be fake? There sure are enough fake Adam pages and Twitters out there.

  • Victoria

And, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe that he would post the picture from 2004 New Years that he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know existed until it showed up on the Web on his Friendster page.

What? Of course Adam knew it existed. It was his own, personal tribe account that VFTW found that pic near the beginning of the season. So yes, he did know about.

I still don’t think he will confirm or deny anything in RS… Ah, who knows. I hope he does, because I don’t think the media will let this go until he actually says he’s gay. I think they will move on after awhile if he comes out and acts like it’s no big deal.

  • oceana

I hate it when people demand to know about someone’s private life and sexuality. However I know that Adam has the skills to handle it. He’ll say what he wants to say, of that I have no doubt. I don’t think even 19 could make him say anything he didn’t want to say. He seems to know his own mind.

The media has a prurient interest in forcing celebrities to declare if they are gay, label themselves and put themselves into a box, so that they can live inside that label the rest of their life. It’s ridiculous.

Nobody is hassling the other contestants and demanding to know everything about their private sex lives. Have any of them ever had sex with the same sex, have any of them ever had fantasies about it, they aren’t asked these kinds of intrusive questions.

The EW article about Adam at least had a valid question, i.e. “will America vote in a gay Idol?” (answer: no, apparently not) But this constant speculation about his private life is really unfortunate and happens all the time now.

  • Zerika
  • revcat

Adam may or may not have been asked by AI to keep a lid on any “announcements” until after the finale, but surely he will officially “come out” before the tour starts. He almost has to because the jerk-off media people will not leave it be – I’m so sick of interviewers shoving a mike in his face and alluding to his “sexuality”! I hope the Rolling Stone magazine thing is true and I also hope they are paying him a whole lot of money, he deserves it for having to put up with all of this crap! I’m female, and believe me, I’m not gonna stop havin’ the hots for him no matter what. I adore Adam, he is one sexy beast.

I agree MJ. Adam has to prolong the mystery and let Kris have his moment. But what’s your take on Kara’s comments. Didn’t she preempt what needs to come from Adam himself?

Ehh, I don’t think Kara knows much more about the whole situation than the rest of America. She just made an observation, which is what most of us have been doing all season. She wasn’t really “outing” him, she just said she assumed he’s alwys been out. I don’t think there was anything wrong with it.

  • madefourbabies

Just by reading a few posts on this page, it seems that people think that Adam’s “coming out” soon is his decision. I stumbled upon the link below and it appears that it’s all due to Kara’s comments during an interview that will be released tomorrow morning. If she really did this, I’ll have lost all respect for her…how could she possibly justify her actions. It’s nobody’s place but Adam’s to make public claims about his sexuality…what a violation of his privacy and trust…uggggh.

mj. I almost always agree with you because I think you’re unbiased. But for this, I have to disagree. Adam might not want to say it loud and clear about the word even if he is not hiding anything. But all the media are pushing him to do this. His career is just at the very beginning, to come out at this key point will only bring Adam harm. It is not “overshadow” Kris’s win. It’s more like a damage to Adam, not “shining” at all! And yes, there will be tons of backlash as well. Please don’t say it is overshadow, because Adam does not deserve this unfair speculation. He is the one get hurt most. I really feel sad.

  • KrisAllen1

Mj i wouldnt mind the magazine thing over-shadowing Kris’s win.How long has this been going on? lol. That same problem is always going on.I’m not surprised. The only thing Kris can do is put out a album and hope its good.

This wont hurt Adam’s career.Everyone knows that he’s gay.I dont think people would care because they know. Its clear from looking at him.I think at the most people will respect him for coming out and handling it so well.

Personally, I think Clayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s coming out was a business move. He wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t moving units, so why not state the obvious, for some serious loot!

Exactly my point. From a business perspective it doesn’t really pay for someone under contract to come out and not reap the monetary rewards.

  • KrisAllen1

clearone i didnt mean it in a bad way.I should of worded it better.I meant that
Adam kinda makes it clear that its who he is.He doesnt need to come out.I think alot of people agree that he doesnt need to come out because he was always kinds openly gay he just didnt admit it and he shouldnt.

  • ciciring

I just hope he can handle it well because Adam himself definitely feel the pressure. yes, everyone would assume that he is gay, but say it loud and clear is really not the same as not hiding. why the media just want to hear that specific word? There are millions of buyers don’t watch idol and I believe the majority of them are really not that open minded. Not saying that they would not accept gay, but the “weird” feeling circling around would definitely just keep them away rather than attracted to buying. Again, Adam is just serving as “gossip” rather than being star at current situation. He needs the market. And news like this would not do him good.

And talking about overshadowing, I agree with you, KrisAllen1, this is going on for the whole season. Adam earns this public attention by his fabulous performance and why should people just pity the weaker one while sacrifice the “seemingly” stronger one? yes, sheep should get feed, but, wolf should starve to death?? For public’s attention and respect, please earn by your talent, not pity. If Kris cannot shine, that’s his problem, if he can shine, that’s because he deserves it. But to say something about overshadowing, it is not fair to the strong.

  • kate09

I have learned it’s never a good idea to assume someone is gay (or straight) based on the way they look but this is certainly true of Adam. Yes, he likes to dress up & wear eyeliner, but there are photos of him I’ve seen & also times during Idol that he did not at all ‘look’ gay to me . . . he is always ALWAYS giving off a highly sexual vibe no matter what he’s wearing or doing.

I also don’t think Kara’s comments have anything to do with the Rolling Stone mag & Adam possibly making some statement. Kara filmed her View appearance today I believe, & the Rolling Stone cover & article were in the works before today.

  • KrisAllen1

Circiring I dont think any of the boys really earned the media attention.
They both came far in a talent show and we dont even know what
there future and albums will be like. For all we know Kris will flop
and adam will sell alot.Or Kris can sell alot and Adam can flop.

Kris can shine the fact that he won proves that he does shine. Its not his fault
I blame the media and the fact that TPTB made him look worthless and nothing
to the show.So know its how the media sees him and he has to prove that he’s worthy of the title even when he doesnt.Even if Kris puts out a huge album I cant see people respecting him.

The one reason I dont mind Adam over-shadowing was because its been that
way for awhile. Its not Adam’s fault but its the media’s.At this point i stopped
listening to the junk they try and sell.I mean Adam coming out really?? because he hasnt already??

  • Ellie2

A statement like that would not surprise me at all. I think Adam is gay, but I also think he’s pretty fluid in his ideas on lots of issues so it wouldn’t surprise me if that “thinking outside the box” (no pun intended…ahem) mentality applied to his sexuality as well.

  • Chipmunk

    Its not Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fault but its the mediaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s

That’s just sick how the press hound ppl about there sexuality.Adam owes noone an explanation on his sexual preferences he should keep it to himself and not have to explain himself ITS NONE OF OUR BUSINESS!.I for one don’t care I like Adam for his kickass personality and vocals. And Kara needs to keep her mouth shut she shouldn’t say anything about Adam’s sexuality it’s up to him and him only.

  • al2009atw

It’s a tough one for Adam. I don’t think is his decision to make, at least not entirely. 19 Entertainment probably has a lot of says in what Adam does and says. It’s the whole marketing and PR thing. I don’t think Adam is trying to steal Kris’s thunder, not at all! Hopefully it won’t hurt him. I really love this guy. I am quite sure he is gay but I have to say from a straight female’s perspective, he is still very very sexy and attractive.

  • cay

You’d be surprised at the number of people who want to remain “in the dark” about it. They “know”, but don’t want to hear it. It will hurt his career I think. Homophobia has already hurt his run on Idol.

I can’t believe that Kara is going on The View tomorrow and claim that Adam is openly Gay. Kara is headlines on all the news – and of course Perez and Dlisted. Kara has made it about her. If Adam hasn’t said it, why is Kara choosing to make headlines for herself and Adam. Who needs friends like that.

Rolling Stone (if true) is another 2 weeks away. It’s enough time for Kris and Adam to finish their rounds. I Adam does show up and present at the MTV awards.

with it with class. As does Adam with the “Gay” drama.

I think every reporter should look at Sleazk. He did a very good interview with Adam. Its the best one yet.He didnt try and make Adam look uncomfortable

Where is this Adam and MTV coming from?

There are reports that the MTV Movie Awards this Sunday has a 5th row seat for Adam Lambert (didn’t say anything about Kris), but someone upthread said that Access Hollywood says that he can’t go now.

I really hope he can go to this and do the red carpet! This would be a perfect publicilty outing while he’s red HOT! Besides, I thought the Top 2 Idols usually show up don’t they?

  • KrisAllen1

The media chooses who they want to show or talk about.Who else choose’s?
Its up to the mediia to who they want on covers.I mean seriously? Paris Hilton? What did she do to derserve attention? Or Kim whatever her last name is? Brittany spears? Lady Gaga? Lindsey Lohan? They do nothing and are
on covers everywhere.Like i said.Atleast with Adam the media likes someone with class and its about time we get away from people who do nothing and get fame.I dont even know how this is a topic for this blog post lol.

  • Nativenewyorker

I am with mj on this one. I don’t see any reason why Adam has to make a big announcement about his sexual identity. Those pictures have been out there for some time now and it’s pretty obvious who he is. I think it takes away from his singing. I am also shocked about the information I read here saying that Kara is going on the View tomorrow and will “out” Adam. That’s not her place to do. It’s for Adam to do in his own time.

I agree with the person here who mentioned that Adam now has a publicist and is being advised on things like this. If he is going to officially come out in the article in Rolling Stone, then that’s the way it should be. I am not a fan of Kara’s already and I don’t know that I could ever forgive her if she does this to Adam.

I have been recording all of the shows and enjoying watching Adam. This is what it’s all about as far as I am concerned.

  • KrisAllen1

I think this proves that Kara is a bitch.More than we all thought. Its wrong for
her to go and say that on a show like “The View”.How does she know that
Adam is gay.Did she really sit down with him and ask? I mean seriously there
are so many things ruining her career. From writing NB to telling people adam is gay.She offically hurt both of Kradam’s career.I think even Paula has more class
than that and that says alot.

  • Chipmunk

The media chooses who they want to show or talk about.

    EXACTLY!That’s the point

  • gangreen29

I am willing to give Kara the benefit of the doubt on this one. I don’t remember where I read this, but I remember reading that she treats American Idol as a show up, do your job, and then don’t give it another thought while you aren’t there type of a job. Adam very well could have been open about his sexuality to those who he worked with on the show, Kara included. She probably does not read all these articles about Adam obsessively like we do as fans, so she may not have even been aware that he is not been open about it with the press, so she is just going by what she knows personally.

  • KrisAllen1

Even if Adam did tell her is it her right to go and tell everyone on a big talk show?

  • madamimadam

Well, IF Adam is gay, he owes ME an explanation and sooner rather than later!!! Why you may wonder? Let me explain…

    1. I have to try to return the wedding dress WITH alterations and try to get my money back.

    2. Cancel the church/synagogue and try to get my deposit back.

    3. Cancel the caterer and try to get my deposit back.

    4. Cancel the bartender and try to get my deposit back.

    5. Cancel the band and try to…. oh wait… we weren’t going to have a band, we were going to have Adam sing at his own wedding!

Yadiyadiyada… when all is said and done, if Adam states that he is gay, my chances of ‘doing’ Adam are the same as they were before… nil to none!

I am a 55 year old widow and love Adam for his voice, his stage presence, the entertainer that he is, his wit, his brains, his ‘well-groundedness’… let Adam entertain me until the day I die (in 50 years or so)… that is the only relationship Adam and I will ever had… and I wouldn’t trade it in for the world.

Everyone best buckle up… We’re in for the ride of our lives!!!!

  • gangreen29

Yeah, if he talked about it openly, why should she think otherwise? Barbara asked about his “perceived sexuality” and if her only context was what he has said to her, of course she would respond the way she did

Adam on Best Week Ever tomorrow! Check out the very cute pics (Adam wearing reading glasses and playing with a CPR dummy!) Adam thinks he needs to lose 15 pounds (that much????)

Interviewer is very fangirly! Cute! Some of the interview:

Michelle: Do you realize that you are a magical person?

Adam: Well, thank you. (arms touching now) And Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m only attracted to other magical people.

Now letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s talk about something the internet needs to know more about: Your Bromance with Kris. Which has taken on a life of its own: Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fan fiction involving you twoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    Adam: Oh really?

Michelle: Did you not know about that?

    Adam: (laughing) No I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t.

    Michelle: Oh my god. Adam.

Adam: I kind of want to read it.

    Michelle: Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s kind ofà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ hot. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m really serious, Adam, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so good.

Adam: We should show it to his wife. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s who we should have read it.

Michelle: Was there anyone in the house when you were living with all the Idol people who you really didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get along with so much?

    Adam: Yes.

Michelle: I think I know who it is. Are you allowed to talk about it?

    Adam: I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say.

    Michelle: Can I say it?

Adam: Well Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m on tour with them all summer, I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say! Maybe after the tour.

Eh, I don’t know about that. Even loopy Paula on Larry King didn’t discuss Adam’s personal life. I think she said music has no prejudice or something like that. Simon touched on it in a way as he said Adam isn’t hiding who he is, but he still left it somewhat vague. I don’t think Randy has ever addressed the issue. So that leaves Kara. I am shocked that she wasn’t briefed on this. Or maybe she was and it’s all good? It just seems this would take the wind out of the sails of the RS article, so I can’t imagine TPTB would be ok with Kara discussing this.

  • Chipmunk

Uh, anyone who is respectful of another person doesn’t comment publically on their private life no matter how open they have been around them. It’s not her place to say anything….bottom line. Only Adam has the right to comment on it, nobody else. Maybe it was too early in the day for her and her common sense hadn’t kicked in.

  • wand3rful

I have a friend who supplied some fo the wardrobe/jewelry for Idol and she said everyone on the set/backstage knew Adam’s sexuality….it wasn’t a secret and he wasn’t coy about it. It was very out in the open. Thus behind the scenes, Kara saw what she saw and I see nothing wrong w. her comments.

Despite knowing all of this…it still hasn’t deterred my sister from wanting to have his kids or me from fantasizing about an adam/me/kris sandwich.

and the bestweekever interview? hands down my favorite adam interview so far!

  • al2009atw

Media is media. What can we say more about them? They need to make headlines and “news”. Kara is Kara. I am not a big fan of her but Adam speaks highly of her. So, she must be all right and nice to the contestants.

But seriously, they need to sell concert tickets and debut CDs, I am keeping my fingers crossed that they won’t let Adam make a big mistake that it’s going to hurt his career. Adam is such a talent to a lot of people (I understand there are a lot of people who don’t get him). Kris is the lucky one here. He is the winner and will do great for sure. I am hoping for success for Adam as well.

  • gangreen29

So know Kara can’t talk about anyone’s private life??!? She can’t talk about Kris’s wife or Gokey being a widower? I don’t buy that. If like wand3rful said is true, and Adam was open about it to the crew, why are you upset she is talking about it? I feel like this is implying that Adam being gay is some kind of deep secret, one that is bad and shameful so Kara shouldn’t discuss it.

  • maria4hitz

It’s obvious Adam has to talk about it at some point, the media is putting a lot of preassure on him. He HAS to talk about it so eventually everyone will drop the subject (hopefully). And it works fine now for both Adam and Rolling Stone, it’s the perfect time because it’ll sell A LOT of magazines (IF he’s coming out in RS). I don’t think it’ll overshadow Kris because everyone has been talking about it a lot already and in 2 weeks the post-idol/winner media tour will be over.

  • KrisAllen1

Kris’s wife and Gokey being a widower is not the center of attention and there both boring. However Adam not coming out and the media putting pressure on him I think it’s more interested. For Kara to start calling people “Gay” and that
he’s already open about it? How about we let the world think if Adam is gay or not.Kara has no right to be saying that kind of stuff about Adam.Kara made
Adam sing that NB song and made it be Kris’s single. She should be thanking that they arent pissed at her and telling the media what they really think about NB.

If I were Adam, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d just let people think what they want to think.

I’m afraid this is a catch 22 for Adam. Damned either way, unfortunately. Just look what Simon and almost everyone said when Clay finally came out. Just follow your heart on this Adam, we love you no matter.

  • unique28v

Oh myà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.it truly amazes me how many jerks do try and ask this question of anyone who hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t blasted their hetrosexual conquests all over the tabloids. Pretty much any male celebrity over the age of 20 who doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have a girl friend is asked à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“the questionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and heaven forbid if a man makes it to 30 without having a string of women in his wake he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand a chance.

This is sooooo true!! I have a good friend that is 34, and the poor guy gets asked if he’s gay all the time just because he’s not married and has no children. its crazy!!

  • clearone

Kris and Danny’s wives were talked about on the show openly. Their history is national knowledge. Adam’s sexuality was never specifically addressed on the show and Adam, himself, has not talked about it publically. He was been purposely vague when asked about it. Kara should have known better. Paula didn’t comment. Simon didn’t comment. We can assume they were as aware of Adam as Kara was. It’s not her place…….bottom line.

  • lola

It may be an open secret in the AI community but as you’ve said it’s a PRIVATE LIFE. If you are a real freind, would you talk someone’s PRIVATE life in public. It wouldn’t have sounded better if Kara would have allowed Adam speak for himself. Anyway, as long as Adam keeps hitting on the headlines, people will not stop talking about him putting the Idol winner on the sideline.

  • madefourbabies

    ——————————————————————————————————–
Even if Kara was oblivious to the magnitude of interest the media has in confirming Adam’s sexual preference, the very fact that Barbara Walters inquired about Adam’s “perceived sexuality” at all would be a clue to her that they were still searching for an answer as to whether he’s gay or not. Kara is no dummy. She was wrong for commenting on the topic at all. She should have just pointed out the fact that American Idol is a singing competition and the votes that were cast should have reflected the public’s opinion as to who is the best singer and who they think deserves the title. There was no need for her to mention that she has no doubt that Adam is “out” and doesn’t think he was ever in “the closet.”

Okay I think the “omg he has to wait so Kris can have his moment to shine” arguments are all kinds of lamesauce. It’s already a big issue and arguably it’s already overshadowed whatever actually happened in the finale last week. I think that if he’s made a decision to humor the media, he just has to get it over with, so the media can have their little homgz!he’sagay freak out and get over themselves. None of this holding out for copy bs, cause then those overshadowing arguments make even less sense.

Who cares? Exactly how far out of the closet do you want the guy to leap? Only in America….

  • GeminiDolly

I hope Adam is strong enough to handle the craziness of whats to come. This sexuality thing is not going away whether he publicly admits the obvious or continues to feed us the keep speculating line. Gahh, why cant it be all about the music? Booo.

  • Winks8

    Hi Everyone,
First just want to introduce myself. I’ve been an avid reader since I discovered MJs site at the begining of the season. I’m an Adam fangirl (lady) and can’t tell you how much it’s meant to me to be able to come here and read all your comments.

I had trouble getting a log-in once and just never tried again… but finally got it worked out tonight, so I look forward to actually joining in on the conversations from here on out.

I just wanted to make a comments about the discussion regarding Kara and her remarks on the view. I really belive that there’s no way Kara would make the remarks she made if Adam wasn’t 100% aware and ok with them.
I think it’s actually a much healthier and honest response than beating around the bush. It’s not really much different than the remarks made by Simon in his TV Guide interview about how American Idol should be able to handle a gay idol. He didn’t specifically say Adam was gay, but it was clear who we were talking about.

Just a thought. My overly cynical brain would actually take it a step further and say it (Kara’s view appearance and comment) is one piece of the “plan” in terms of those around Adam and Idol being open about him being gay.

I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
    Cheers!
    Winks

Apparently not until he leaps over a cliff. Maybe next they will demand he wear a hairshirt and openly flog himself in the town square.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d love him to just keep it mysterious, but i seriously fail to see how him stating heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay will steal any of Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s thunderà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I cant see the connection

Its not like it will be breaking new if he does says heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay in an interview

For at least a few days, there would be a major media frenzy with blaring headlines…it would totally detract from Kris’s press. This is the Idol press tour, the interviews should be about Idol, not about Adam and his personal life.

Excellent point. So is 19 and AI pushing it now? Adam didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t negotiate this interview on his own.

    I highly doubt that.

  • kate09

Kara stepped over the line IMO. I mean I understand that perhaps Adam’s sexuality was no big secret to everyone on Idol, backstage, whatever but if that is the case, then Gokey & Michael Sarver – who lived with him in the mansion – certainly know as much as Kara & they have kept their mouths shut. Kris – who I love to pieces – lived with Adam, clearly is close with him, & they’ve both said they talked a lot about their respective pasts while they roomed together so I imagine Kris knows quite a few of Mr. Lambert’s secrets.

These contestants who lived with Adam & were certainly backstage where supposedly everything was out in the open haven’t said anything like ‘Oh yeah everyone knows Adam is gay,’ and yet Kara says this in a TV interview?

I wonder how Adam feels about this. Maybe he doesn’t care, but it’s not her place to make statements like this. The Idol PR machine needs to fill her in…and especially after he defended her on LK Live.

ETA: I know Sarver made the ‘godly way’ comment about his love for Danny, & I despise that but at least neither of these guys have sought media attention for themselves using their ‘inside’ knowledge of Adam’s sexuality. That is wrong, a betrayal, IMO, & Kara has pissed me off just when I was starting to forgive her for that hot mess ‘No Boundaries.’

  • KrisAllen1

Linsav can you post the article?

wow, all these talks are somewhat stressful!

did somebody say something about having Adam’s baby? how do we sign up :) just kidding! i have enough kids already. adam is sooo awesome though. maybe he can be a sperm donator so we can have more beautiful people like him in this world. just want to say something “off-topic”.

  • cookbunny

I think chrgi may have a point…I mean let’s face it, the media HASN’T been talking about Kris’ Idol win as much as “why Adam lost,” Textgate, and Adam’s sexuality. Maybe the best tactic is to just say “yes, for those of you who are blind, ignorant or just in denial, I’m gay. Now let’s talk about Kris!” I hate that we still live in a society where apparently you’re not really gay unless you shout it from the rooftops.

Also, in defense of Kara and others in the entertainment industry, they may simply figure he’s out and it’s “no big deal.” But the news media deal in facts, and I guess they don’t want to say he’s gay unless he says it first?

    Sure, here it is:

Adam Lambert: A role model? Really?

    May 28, 2009, 04:45 PM | by Adam Markovitz

    Categories: ‘American Idol’

Adamlambert_l American Idol is over and done for the year, but there’s still plenty of chatter about Adam Lambert’s envelope-pushing image — much of it from the man himself. I rooted for Lambert on the show and devoured Mark Harris’ spot-on cover story about him. But a recent comment that the singer made to People just isn’t sitting right with me: “It’s a really, really cool thing…to be able to show people that you can be yourself,” he said. “It feels really amazing to be able to try and pass that on to kids and young adults who don’t have a role model like that.”

But how exactly is he doing that? By hiding his own identity? By letting an open secret define him? By fanning the flames with the kind of ambiguous double-speak that’s usually reserved for politicians in crisis-management mode?

If he is gay, Lambert’s reluctance to come out is just reinforcing the idea that homosexuality ought to be hidden from the world. And if he’s not, his coy comments are an insult to people everywhere who don’t think sexual orientation should be reduced to a publicity stunt. He has every right to his privacy. But once you turn your secrecy into a marketing tool and encourage fans to “keep speculating,” you lose the right to refer to yourself as a role model — at least in my book.

What do you think, PopWatchers? Is Lambert off base, or am I?

  • anna in vegas

And talking about overshadowing, I agree with you, KrisAllen1, this is going on for the whole season. Adam earns this public attention by his fabulous performance and why should people just pity the weaker one while sacrifice the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“seeminglyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ stronger one?

Better for Kris in every way that he won. If Adam had won, we would probably be hearing very litttle about Kris as opposed to David A. last year. JMO

  • unique28v

If Adam were to come out now, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be all kinds of backlash about Adam trying to steal Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s thunderà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Interesting. I think it would be the opposite. I think people would use this as confirmation of why Adam didn’t win. It would be the 5th conspiracy theory this season.

  • AC

I don’t see any problem with Kara talking about Adam. We are doing that too.

  • TKat

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The point I was trying to make: If Adam comes out now, it overshadows Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idol win. Adam and Kris need to be allowed to at least get through the post-Idol news cycle if the issue is going to be addressed. If Adam were to come out now, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be all kinds of backlash about Adam trying to steal Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s thunderà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

MJ I often agree with you but not this time. If Adam doesn’t answer this question, the story will just keep getting bigger.

Adam has really worked to NOT overshadow Kris since the Final vote. He was the first to say that Kris won because of he was talented, he didn’t fuel the flames of Textgate or the other vote conspiracies, and he really supported Kris as the winner the whole time. And I really do not believe that Adam wants to have his “potential gayness” be the main focus of the press coverage. He really seems to want to talk about his music, fashion and his future plans.

I also do not believe that 19E can control Adam (or any other Idol) completely. I have seen enough of Adam’s skill with the press to know that he can implicitly communicate a lot of things without being explicit. Look at how he talks about the selection of “Black & White” and it’s meaning to him, ot the Pink Elephant interview. There isn’t a lot of mystery.

With very few exceptions, the press and interviewers are not very smart. Look at how they have made black nail polish, black eyeliner, and died black hair gay. I guess someone needs to tell Sharon that Ozzy Osbourne is gay. And what about those poor goth kids in Concord, CA?

But the press and online sites serve up what drives traffic. And “Adam Lambert gay” and “Adam Lambert Kissing Guy” are still top Google search terms.

That article is harsh. This is why Adam just needs to say “I’m gay” and then move on.I can understand the article and where the person was coming from but its wrong to publish it.Let Adam adjust to fame for a few days and let him come out how he wants to come out.I think either way there could be backlash.I have friends who would cry the day adam admits they dont have a

I hope that if Adam is gay (he probably is), that he never confirms it for the press. Being an openly gay male is a commerical suicide. The number of openly gay men that are commerically successful is slim. As much progress that has been made, coming out in the entertainment industry is risky.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Okay I think the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“omg he has to wait so Kris can have his moment to shineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ arguments are all kinds of lamesauce. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already a big issue and arguably ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already overshadowed whatever actually happened in the finale last week.

It would be worse if he actually made some sort of “coming out” announcement.

At this point, it doesn’t matter. The press tour is almost over. But if he’d answered those sexual preference questions honestly right after the finale, it’s all the press would have talked about.

  • iluvai

Hi linsav: I saw the post. No worries. I’m so frustrated with this topic tho. Oh well… I’m proud of my children for loving Adam for his personality and his singing and his style… (and many other things!). I am thrilled when I hear my 13 year old listening to Adam on her itunes while she works on the computer. She could be listening to a lot of other artists. Adam is special and a lot of people recognize it. That makes me happy.

  • clearone

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see any problem with Kara talking about Adam. We are doing that too.

We’re not doing it on national television.

  • iluvai

mj– I agree. No announcements. People aren’t naive. And it is really just a distraction from the talent of the idol and runner-up.

  • kate09

clearone – I agree, major difference in us chatting here when none of us know Adam & no one is really paying attention to what we say & Kara, who knows him personally, spouting off on The View.

She cannot claim she thought everyone was aware he is gay & that it’s no big secret, b/c if that were the case, no way would Barbara Walters be asking her about the sexuality of any contestant. It’s not like Barbara followed up with “So, is Kris Allen really married? What’s the deal there?”

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

And I really do not believe that Adam wants to have his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“potential gaynessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ be the main focus of the press coverage. He really seems to want to talk about his music, fashion and his future plans.

Which is at least one of the reasons why he hasn’t answered the question explicitly yet.

I also do not believe that 19E can control Adam (or any other Idol) completely. I have seen enough of Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s skill with the press to know that he can implicitly communicate a lot of things without being explicit.

Hasn’t he been doing that all along? What the press wants right now is a “confession” so they can blare the headline in their newspapers and on their news sites. I don’t blame Adam for resisting.

  • KrisAllen1

Adam is really talented. Why cant the media talk about that.It seems like all they care about Adam being gay.His talents are getting shafted. Its like we all forget who brought us all those songs on the idol songs like “Mad World””Change is gonna come” ,”Black and White”.Adam kinda gave idol a little splash of something new. That is something to talk about.I would like to thank Sleazk for letting us know about his song choices and his experience on idol. Its better to read about then whether he’s gay.I mean really.

  • TKat

We all should know that Kara ruins everything.

Oh please, just shut up and let Adam sing. (Also, there are No Boundaries on how much I hate that Kara song. And to everyone who ever lost their home to a hurricane like me, hurricane are not something to celebrate. No one would blithly write about “mountains and earthquakes” so why bring hurricanes up!)

  • JudyOhio

His coming out and saying he is gay could turn off his male fans. This may be over-simplifying, but I asked my brother who was a huge Elvis fan if he would have continued to follow him (buy his records, see his concerts) if Elvis had made a public announcement that he was gay. His answer was probably not. Of course, my brother is an older fellow now so maybe that isn’t the case today. I wonder if a lot of males would not go to an Adam concert if he decides to stop being on the fence about it for fear their friends might say “you’re going to HIS concert? He’s GAY.” Dunno, just an observation.

It’s not unusual for men to have man crushs when the artist is truly beautiful/sexy. Elvis was eye candy in his day. Adam is that now. But I do think some men have trouble with the word gay.

  • iluvai

    sorry about your house Tkat.

  • undercooked

If like wand3rful said is true, and Adam was open about it to the crew, why are you upset she is talking about it? I feel like this is implying that Adam being gay is some kind of deep secret, one that is bad and shameful so Kara shouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t discuss it.

I don’t have a problem with her discussing it AFTER the RS article. It seems to me that 19 has a PR plan in place. I think Adam wasn’t discussing it because he had an in-depth article planned for RS. So Kara shouldn’t be blabbering until after the magazine hits the stands. I also think this underscores MJ’s point. The press tours are still going on, and now Kara is going to take away the spotlight from Kris with her loose lips. Did she skip the PR meetings because she was too busy honing those No Boundaries’ lyrics? Really, everyone else seemed to be on the same page.

  • kate09

Adam has stated that he used Idol as a platform . . . I fear Idol, or at least a few of those associated with the show like Kara & Ryan Seacrest, feel they can now use Adam as a platform to promote themselves & claim they have ‘inside’ info. on the rising star. Kudos to Paula, Simon, & Randy who have said nothing out of line regarding Adam & his sexuality.

  • iluvai

Do not laugh, please. (I’m laughing tho). So Elvis is gay?

  • linsav

    iluvai May 28th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

    sorry about your house Tkat.

Me, too Tkat. Half my family did back in Louisiana. Lost mine in Andrew.

  • KrisAllen1

I think Adam and Kris should both go on the next talk show together talking about the NB song and how it sucks.I doubt they will because they are both classy and respectful.I think Kara just wants to be in the spotlight. How does Paula who always looks drugged up not say something but Kara makes a statement on a talkshow about it lol.She must of gone to the PR meeting because she didnt spend much time working on NB.

  • LaurelG

Right now Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m to the point where I would sincerely, totally love it if Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s statement on this topic was, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hey you know what? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been with women and with men. It depends on the individual as to how attracted I am to him/her and how attracted to we are to each other.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

A statement like that would not surprise me at all. I think Adam is gay, but I also think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty fluid in his ideas on lots of issues so it wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t surprise me if that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“thinking outside the boxà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (no pun intendedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ahem) mentality applied to his sexuality as well.

I think a statement like this would be more beneficial for his career because the ambiguity thing is really working for him right now in terms of across-the-board fan support, but unless Adam truly has been with girls, I can’t see him making it. I’m sure he wouldn’t be comfortable with any kind of deception and he’d only leave himself open to attacks from former “friends” and people like Perez. Unless he truly is bisexual, I don’t think he’ll be throwing that out. Of course since none of us really know him personally, we have no way of knowing what his dating history is, but, I’ve read lots of Adam related stuff and I’ve heard nothing about dating women.

Given the teaser “you’ll have all the answers you’ve been looking for” and the fact that he’s been out forever, I do think he’ll make some kind of definitive statement in RS. As far as overshadowing Kris is concerned, as someone pointed out above a lot of the media cycle stuff is winding down and the questions and speculation are only intensifying. I think he purposely held off as long as he did to keep the focus on Kris. Then when the RS interview presented itself, he probably thought it was his best chance at having the subject buried in a story that will also focus on his music and plans for his album. In a perfect world, Adam would not even be asked this question, but unfortunately he has to deal with the reality of a celebrity obsessed culture that believes the price of fame is the total loss of one’s privacy.

  • linsav

iluvai, I am proud to be alive to have witnessed the talent, charm, grace, wit, humor and generosity that is Adam Lambert. He is something special and if any child looked up to him I would be proud to encourage him/her.

  • kate09

LaurelG – you’re right about Adam not stating that he’s been with men & women if it’s not true. I think something along those lines would be most beneficial to his career, so the obvious next step is for Adam to sleep with a woman before the RS stuff comes out. I am certain there are many ladies who’d be willing to oblige.

I haven’t read anything about him dating girls, however there are some pics that suggest he would not be opposed to physical relations with a female…he strikes me as someone who’d try anything once – even GASP – sleeping with a girl.

  • iluvai

“Do not laugh, please. (Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m laughing tho). So Elvis is gay?”

I re-read my comment, and I hope it doesn’t sound rude. I’m laughing at myself, because I kind of thought this. But I never really gave it serious thought. When I was little I wanted to marry Elvis and thought he was the most beautiful man in the world. I’m so tired. I apologize if I offended anyway. Must be time for sleep.

  • abbysee

    Ugh, ugh, ugh…..

It I am being truthful, part of me doesn’t want him to ‘come out’. I know what homophobia looks like. The dealio is that those who hate him assume that he is gay anyway. That being gay has negative connotations in the year 2009 is disgusting to me. That people won’t by his record because they think he screeches, or is scary (hi Clay), is one thing, even acceptable. But because he’s gay? And that is really the point of this are you or aren’t you game? They want to brand him, possibly both literally and figuratively, and I hate it.

I hope if he does come out the cover says something like DUH. and then inside, not a word about it.

  • linsav

Given the teaser à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll have all the answers youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been looking forà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and the fact that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been out forever, I do think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll make some kind of definitive statement in RS.

You see that is just it, a teaser. He was laughing when he said it, and “answers to what we’ve been looking for” is not saying “answers to what I have been repeatedly hounded about.” I think he will answer in typical Adam fashion and give his answer in the vein he has already. What, is there going to be a picture with “I’m Gay” tatooed on his forehead accompanying the article? How out does anyone have to be? I mean why isn’t the press hounding Kris asking him if his marriage is a cover after seeing him bear hug Adam from behind in front of the press after the AI finale???

  • TKat

Perhaps we should all invite Kara to New Orleans and make here sing that silly line? IMO a truly thoughtless and perhaps insensitive song.

On a much lighter note — just when I think nothing can surprise me:

Carrie Prejean reigning (Miss California and outspoken Gay Marriage opponent): Adam Lambert Fan? You bet she is! à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Absolutely! I loved Adam. He should have won.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

It I am being truthful, part of me doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want him to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹come outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢. I know what homophobia looks like. I know what you mean. It’s too bad we have to worry about this. It’s been a draining season because of the worry. But Adam seems pretty content and happy. And the bottom line is that he is such a huge talent, (and I can’t believe I’m paraphrasing Paula here ) that I do think people tend to forget their prejudices when they see and hear someone truly amazing.

And on a lighter note, I have been loving the Kradam stuff. I really wish they would do a reality show on the tour. And I don’t know why they haven’t thought of that before. It can be on cable, and they can follow the AI singers around the country and film the behind the scene stuff and the fans. I’m thinking 30 miniutes per week would be enough.

“I just had another thought. EWà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Adam B. Vary hit Adam up with the sexual preference question the night of the finale. If Adam had been forthcoming, his answer would have overshadowed everything elseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’including Kris Allenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s win. Adam stealing Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s thunder would have been totally uncool. ”

It’s not that I think this was irrelevant but I lean towards thinking the bigger consideration was bagging a high profile mag cover that would talk music at the price of getting the exclusive on his sexuality. For all we know the cover was already in negotiations by Adam’s publicist before the finale because if EW didn’t care whether Adam won before putting out its cover, I don’t think RS would either.

But it’s also true there probably wasn’t a way for Adam to casually say he’s gay or bi without that overwhelming all the media coverage of AI. Sucks but it is what it is.

  • kate09

Oh I would be all over a reality show of the tour…Kradam goodness, some tension w/Sarver after he inevitably sticks his foot in his mouth, Scott running his mouth obliviously, Alison being her amazing self, & maybe some shirtless Adam footage. Love that idea.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

People like Perez and other media pundits will hound Adam until he says something, like it or not. I think a RS spread is probably the best forum, especially if he can negotiate that its a minor part of the article.

I just don’t get why he has to declare his orientation for people to calm down about it. I mean, they know it. It’s not even like you have to read between the lines. They just want him to say it. *rollseyes*

ETA: I really think if Adam’s songs are good, no one will care about the gay thing. He might have a hard time getting movie roles playing a straight male, but music is usually more universally accepting of gays than Hollywood.

Hey it was my idea for Adam to sleep with a woman so he can honestly say he’s been with a woman, so I will take one for the team . . . hell I will take two or three, whatever Adam needs to make his statements honest & accurate. If he feels the need to say ‘women’ – plural – then you can all line up!

And what about Meagan. It seems like she (as one of MJ”s astute bloggers pointed out) likes to kick back a few cocktails. I tell you it would all be viewing gold. Especially if the rumor that Anoop and Megan are a couple is true. And Matt just seems to be a funny guy. And what about Lil’s wig collection? Really, as far as a cast of characters, this really is a strong bunch.

ETA: Oh Oh, and how about Danny spending his free time on the tour designing his eyewear line. People would be pissed because he’d be leaving his hot glue gun and bedazzle jewels all over the tour bus.

linsav – the pics I’m thinking of are him in seductive poses with women. And there’s one where his tongue is hanging out & there are two girls also participating in a three-way tongue war it seems. Adam is way sexy, but I’m not lining up to sleep with Adam because I highly doubt he’d want to sleep with me. ;-) I would love to hang out and gossip and go shopping though. Adam, call me.

  • houstonrufus

You know, I feel like I’m in some sort of weird alternate universe. There was a time when no one would talk about this. Now it’s all anyone wants to talk about. Seriously, I will be glad when this no longer matters. Clearly it does still. But the CONSTANT drumbeat is making me weary, weary, weary. The constant questions posed to those suspected and the parsing of every one of their statements diminishes characteristics that at least matter equally, though you’d never know it, like talent. The risk? That those set on forcing everyone to be honest and upfront with PRIVATE matters may sacrifice actual careers for the cause. I’m not saying Adam wouldn’t make it if he came out. Frankly, I think it’s a non-issue at this point. But if it is all anyone wants to talk about, when clearly he has viable skills, then his career is not getting the focus it should. And wouldn’t a long, successful career truly be the triumph?

I respect Adam for the way he is handling this. It’s his business. Anyone pushing him to say anything more than he wants to say should take a flying leap off the nearest skyscraper as far as I’m concerned.

He is who he is and is bedroom is off limits to the press as far as I am concerned.

  • Sydia

I have been watching Adam’s interviews, and I can say he is so adorable. He is “fabulously” gay. If this is the reason that RS has him on their cover though is pretty lame, but hey, gotta sell magazines. I sure hope that Adam declares he is gay, and declares that this is the last time he will talk about what his sexual preference is, he needs to just be, he is so snarky, and a bit full of himself, but that is what makes him so interesting.

That those set on forcing everyone to be honest and upfront with PRIVATE matters may sacrifice actual careers for the cause

See. I think the way you handle that is start discussion the sexual preferences of media members. If Kara wants to speculate about Adam’s sexual preferences, lets start demanding that Kara discuss her preferences. Of Julie Chen wants to speculate, let’s start asking her what kind of kinky stuff she and Les Moonves are into. That’ll nip this thing in the bud real quick. We are either going to have a little decency or we aren’t. And, if we aren’t, then the news media and their bosses are fair game sleazy innuendo.

Me too!! It’s all so silly isn’t it – the speculation in the media?

I don’t care, and could care less about Adam’s orientation. Why doesn’t someone start asking Kara about her personal sex life so she can discuss that on TV? Sheesh.

Personally, i don’t care to know much information about ANYONE’S personal sex or romantic life. I want to know more about the music that rumbles in his brain, also more about how he visualizes fashion ( colours, textures, fabrics).

Adam strikes me as being very creative yet professional with business saavy.
What an interesting combination of characteristics this young man has…I’m old enough to be his mum and feel as proud as his mum must feel.

clearone, that is one hot pic of Adam with *gasp* a woman, damn close together, her arms wrapped around him, one of his around her and darn close to being on her rear end, a hand full of her hair in his hand and he is either kissing her or whispering something into her ear. HOT!!!

Kara was asked a question, and she answered it. At least that’s how I’m reading it. Was she supposed to say he was in the closet?

Kate09 — Ha! That would be a hell of a line!

Not to turn this into a gossip site, but I have been told that since Adam’s relationship with Drake Labry had become so public, that the decision was made to just answer “the question”. I was told this by someone who is very well connected in the LA gay entertainment community, so I think it’s true. (Perez is already all over the story. He and other reporter are being relentless about it.)

Drake has been connected with Adam for a few months, and has been sitting with Adam’s parents in the AI audience. (He’s the great looking guy with the light brown hair. IMO much better looking than Brad Bell.)

linsav, 4got I’ve read where he dated women in highschool also there’s a picture of going to prom with girl . That video” crazy” where he’s sexual with the women-slapping their butts. I’ve seen that picture {the one he’s with those two girls and “tongue thing” is going on}.
I definately agree he should stay on the fence.
Like that everybody’s happy -except Perez he’ll make his life hell. I need my glimpse of hope and fantasy. I’ll follow him no matter I LOVE THIS MAN! but He really doesn’t need to for what? bisexuality is all they need to here I really doubt they’ll take it furthur.

  • Winks8

Ugg, just had a thought. Once Adam does make some kind of a statement…. let’s just say he does make it clear he’s gay… or at least bi, not only do we have those headlines to deal with, but you know the press has been dying to ask all the other idol contestants (this year and past) for some kind of comment. Can you imagine the field day they are going to have making headlines out of what Gokey, Kris, Sarver, Cook, Archie, Daughtry, Carrie, etc. have to say about it. Oh my god we’ll be ranting about what somebody else said for days and days. I really hope not.

For this reason I hope Adam just comes out and says… “It’s no one’s business but my own who I love and have relationships with.” “If I’m ever in a relationship that I feel like being public with… you’ll see it.”

    Wink

If I could give Adam advice, (and really, why should he take it from me) I don’t think he should go into names or specifics in his RS interview. I wonder if Cook looks back on that Rolling Stone article (I’m sure it means alot to him) and is thinking “UGH!!! why did I mention Kimberly!”

  • lola

Just finished watching the i-tune videos of Adam performances to put a smile back on my face. I don’t know why I’m so affected with this. Maybe because I want to know how he is feeling right now with all these talks. That’s all I need to know. If it doesn’t bother him a bit then I’m ok. Just catch me if I happen to fall on this crazy ride. Can’t stop reading your comments and counter comments…..and the drama continues.

  • cay

I think it’s silly to think that he is going to talk just because he is seeing someone. This Drake guy just moved to LA from Louisianna and they haven’t been seeing each other for very long. It’s very new and not newsworthy now. And as Cook can tell Adam, they won’t be seeing much of each other for a year or so. I hope Adam keeps his personal stuff personal. I’m sure Adam is smarter than that. The less he says the better off.

So, if soon means tomorrow, does that mean no Rolling Stone cover?

  • mishebe

I really wish he would just keep it private. He is just falling into the media trap. Just keep some people speculating. . Admitting whatever will just takeover the talent he has. Admitting he is gay will not stop people asking about it. Unless he is in a long term relationship and plans on being with the same person forever why bother to talk. I dont want to read about his lovers , I want to read about his talent, his new album, if he is going on tour or what shows he will be on… just my thoughts. mishelle

  • stoplurking

I think he doesn’t need to have a magazine cover with the tagline “I’m “. I like how he’s been answering questions related to his sexuality. But it seems the media can’t leave well enough alone. They need it spelled out. Someone upthread said something about Ruben being black. This is like Adam saying he’s tall.

I wish he didn’t have to be in this position but I hope he handles it well. He’s been handling it very well the past few months, here’s hoping he continues to be graceful and witty and smart about this and any other issues that come up in the future.

On that note, I just want to hear more about his album and I want to hear more of his old stuff :).

All of these months they have been all living together they have hardly had time to themselves. Adam even says they had a 10:00 p.m. curfew with no one allowed to come in. I don’t see how he would dish on a relationship that is so new and he hasn’t spent much consistent time with Drake. He is going to be uber busy rehearsing for the tour, touring, recording while touring, and then finishing up his tour. How can you get hot and heavy with someone with so little time together? He won’t be able to have a life of his own until after his album comes out and he wraps up his solo tour.

No need to worry about Archie. He was asked directly during an interview in Manila and answered directly.

As for Adam or anyone else, I just don’t understand why we need to know. An artist’s sexual preference or preferences make no difference to my enjoyment of or distaste for their music.

Gay or straight isn’t an issue for me, but you said innocent or whatever.

You also asked me to take a look and I already had. I said it was cute. I didn’t think it was HOT. I guess that’s subjective. No worries. There are plenty of pictures out there of Adam that I think are hawt. Most of them don’t involve women, though.

  • http://www.fatladysings.us TFLS

About gay or bi…..it’s who you love. One of my husbandà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s oldest friends is gay. Always has been. He married once, however. A woman. Why? He fell head over heels in love. First time he’d ever had sex with a woman. But he loved her – so it worked. They were happy too. Unfortunately – she and his son were killed in an auto accident. All of his relationships since have been with men. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not that he avoids women – he’s just not usually attracted to them. That doesn’t mean he may never fall in love with a woman again – it’s just not likely; but then – love doesn’t follow a script.

As for Adam à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s addressing this because he feels he has to. Personally à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ I hope he keeps us all guessing. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s part of the fun in being one of his fans. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s more than just the music weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re attracted to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s him. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fun à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ fun, interesting, unique à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ fill in any positive adjective you like. And part of the whole Adam mystique is speculation on his love life. God à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ he is SO like Madonna in that! The whole is she/isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t she thing. I get a kick out of wondering.

  • wand3rful

We cant generalize that all gay men dont enjoy being “close”, “touchy” with women…one is not like the other LOL i have numerous gay/lesbian friends, and their behavior w. the opposite sex all varies. some wouldn’t touch a girl with a ten foot pole, some love boobies (like, really really love em’). my ex’s buddy/boss was an awesome dancer…when we hit the dance floor it was something right out of dirty dancing. it helped that he was tall and gorgeous (as is always the case, grrrrr)….people would think we were one drink away from procreating LOL but really, it was just silly fun, no big deal.

so whatever pics we might see of adam surfacing, i wouldnt put too much thought into it. (just my random two cents)

  • lola

I am re-reading Kara’s statement. After analyzing the Q&A (like Gokey), I think Kara may have also meant well when she said that Adam was always out. It strikes me like Adam isn’t hiding anything and so there’s no need to question his sexuality….that people should back off and move on. I guess it all depends on how people will interpret it. Maybe if we watch her face or body language and the manner she answers the question will we be able to really know why she said that.

  • revcat

Those of you who don’t want Adam to declare himself to be gay (I’m of course assuming he is!) are more than likely either 1. Worrying about the effect on Adam or 2. In a little bit of denial and just don’t want to hear it, in other words in a weird way worrying about yourself! – – I get it, but in today’s “media in your face world” he’s going to be hounded to death until he speaks to the point. Anyway, I agree Perez is scum, but I don’t think Kara is evil, just a momentary lapse in judgement. Its good we have this site to discuss things rationally, I don’t even like to look at some of the blogs because some of the comments are scary and disturbing. However, I hope can all move on, and continue to support Adam for many years to come by buying his music and attending his concerts! I’m so excited to have this new talent on the horizon – I couldn’t wait every week on Idol to see what he was going to do – I would actually get kind of nervous about it! :)

I just wonder if this was part of the role out plan for adam announcing he is gay. If it’s so obvious….which it is, then when he does, the press just blows over.

It’s just hard for me to believe it just slipped out and I don’t believe she did it on purpose. She is annoying for sure, but not stupid.

  • stelladallas

I’m more interested in knowing who Adam didn’t get along with in the mansion (as he stated in the Slezak interview). Although, through deduction and process of elimination, I have it pretty well narrowed down. :smile_wp:

  • houstonrufus

I’m not hoping Adam hides his “gayness”. Funny enough, whether he is or isn’t wouldn’t change the fact that he wasn’t my favorite this past season. My point is EVERY person has a right to a certain amount of privacy regarding such matters, whether they are straight, gay, bi, tri, quad, or whatever. Granted, in this age of tmz and perez, I realize we are long past honoring such dignities. I’m not hoping Adam stays in the closet. [again, all of this strikes me as the absolute height of hilarity since we all are, or by now should be, savvy enough in this day and age to put 2 and 2 together, but ironically some of us still crave some sort of tabloid, public, dramatic confession].

Even though I am not a fan of his music, I hope Adam stands his ground and directs the path of his career. People who insist upon knowing the details of his private life have their own agendas. I may even support those agendas, objectively! But there is no more precious agenda than an INDIVIDUAL’S right to control one’s own private life! At a pace and time of his choosing!

Ironically, Adam is not even some closeted, self-loathing guy! I’d understand all this interest more in that case. What if Madonna had revealed everything about her private life and inclinations on day one? Would we have been as interested, repulsed, enthralled, fascinated? Adam is no Madonna, but my point is, if he is an “artist” then let him control the personal information that is relevant or NOT relevant to his career.

And allow him the dignity to protect information that is quite frankly, nobody’s effing business.

  • galaxygrrl

I’ll be checking my mailbox obsessively!

Hope he’s not on the cover- fabulous as he is, he has not deserved it yet, and it could backlash with RS readers (who so far are quite supportive of Adam, unlike what usually happens with other Idols).

With people like Slash and Queen wanting to work with Adam, I’m not sure about a back lash, but I can see your point.

I know, it’s interesting how the music pros have embraced Adam unlike the do other idols.

I really think Slash did Idol to meet Adam for his new band. Slash even said, he was a little amazed he was doing Idol, but there were a few people he wanted to help out — aka Allison and Adam I bet.

why the media and so many people always want them to “come out”.
“come out” from what? what for?

So many posts! Regarding the 2 pics with Adam and an attractive woman, I have a lot of gay friends, and at least half of them are very physical with women. Perhaps because they are all in theatre and used to having to play straight parts, or because they are VERY sexual in nature, but Adam really reminds me of two of my friends (who are also in their 20’s). Our company had a client that was gay and no one really knew except me, and at our tech conference I flirted with him something fierce. Everyone thought we were a couple, and I had the time of my life. He was very comfortable with hugging, sitting on his lap, etc (yes, our tech conferences get wild). None of these guys are bi, though I have known some who are. So, the moral of this story is you cannot pigeon hole someone’s sexual preference.

  • KrisAllen1

Are there many international fans on here – and what is your take? Just wondering, this is so not an issue for me (was talking to friends last night that find it equally amusing).

  • lurksalot

Really don’t understand why Adam needs to make a statement when other celebs who are perceived not to be straight are not hounded to death about it. For example, Queen Latiifah. Lady Gaga, who is perceived bi, recently stated to the press that the question is personal and did not respond. And then there are others, like Angelina, who have had relations with the same sex and the press never brings it up, that I have seen anyway.

Just seems out of kilter that it is such a big deal with Adam and not others.

  • deshae78

linsav – the pics Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m thinking of are him in seductive poses with women. And thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s one where his tongue is hanging out & there are two girls also participating in a three-way tongue war it seems. He is so comfortable around people that maybe ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just having fun partying & heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never take it past that to the bedroom, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know. Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know where to link to them at the moment.

Anyone see the Crawl Thru Fire video on YouTube?? At the very end, a girl & a guy come up to Adam and they both grope his private area-totally hot!!

Of course, it is a performance & isn’t “proof” of anything…

  • jpfan

Yeah performance is the key word. I’m bored by all the gay stuff. It feels like something that would have interesting ten years ago but society has moved past it.

I wish Adam would marry his boyfriend in a state that allowed for gay marriage. That would be a little more newsworthy than the gay “controversy.”
    .

  • clearone

Well we can all hypothesize until the cows come home but the bottom line is the only one who knows who knows who Adam is……is Adam and he’s going to to do what he wants to do no matter how much we want him or not. I hate the fact the he is possibly feeling pressured to a statement or even worse if he is being advised to make one. I still say it’s going to hurt him and seriously impair his ability to grow a fanbase. Of course, only time can tell though.

  • LakesideUK

Are there many international fans on here – and what is your take?

    International fan here :bye_tb:

Thoroughly bored with the whole thing really. Couldn’t give a fig about who he has sex with. It wouldn’t ever be me anyway so why should I care? :laugh_tb:

Adam would be just fine here in the UK. The first Pop Idol, Will Young, came out almost immediately after winning the show and it made the tabloids (obviously), but it made zero impact on his sales or the love of his female fans. He sold bucketloads of albums and hasn’t struggled for high profile gigs.

This should be no issue at all. Seriously.

  • saga

I am an international fan and my take on this is that Adams sexuality and sexual preference would have been discussed here as well (Europe) but the hunt for “confirmation” would be less (if any). I mean, everyone knows he is gay, and I think it would stop at that, maybe there would be some speculation as to who his partner is and potential lovers instead?

I think generally there is a tendency to overthink things today and worry about how the media will pecieve you and there is this notion that everyting has to be planned like a stealth hostile takeover. I wish he would just show some badass rock attitude and tell everyone to s*** it. But in a very pressed situation we tend to revert back to “safe”.

I had that feeling when I watched his performances during the second last week (“one” and “crying”). I wished he would have just something really OTT (like ROF). It probably wouldnt give him enough votes maybe but it would give him freedom. Freedom from others putting him in a box and freedom for himself to really dare to do crazy stuff.

I am not saying that he doesn’t continously try to exand his box, I think he is, but society is relentlessly trying to put you back in and when that happens you just have to do crazy stuff to regain your freedom and space to move.

Maybe the need to label people is more important in the states since people won’t give up until they have “confirmation”?

  • thedingoateyobaby

Its been my experience with Gay men that they are very comfortable showing affection, like hugs, with women they consider friends. Hell, I’ve gotten more love and affection from some of my Gay male friends than I have in most of my hetero relationships.

Also I think, in my world at least, that Gay men are relaxed around women and vice versa cause we know the deal and no one is expecting anything but friendship. Its just easy to be around people who dont want anything sexual from you. Just good company and you dont have to worry about innuendo or giving the wrong impression. Its real nice.

Adam is doing the right thing and he is doing it with class. Just get it out of the way cause in the entertainment business, if you dont it will be all those rags talk about.

  • thedingoateyobaby

    >>I hope that if Adam is gay (he probably is), that he never confirms it for the press. Being an openly gay male is a commerical suicide. The number of openly gay men that are commerically successful is slim. As much progress that has been made, coming out in the entertainment industry is risky.>>

I disagree. Especially when the rumors were swirling about Adam from jump. Its not like it will be an OMG shocker. Its already suspected and I think the entertainment industry is much more accepting than most other industries.

  • clearone

Just get it out of the way cause in the entertainment business, if you dont it will be all those rags talk about.

Don’t kid yourself, they’ll still talk. He’s a polarizing figure and popular to boot, they’ll talk.

Its already suspected and I think the entertainment industry is much more accepting than most other industries.

How many openly gay rock/pop stars are there right at the start of their careers? I can’t think of any. Many come out later in their careers when they are established but not right at the start…..not in the US anyhow.

  • Zerika

How many openly gay rock/pop stars are there right at the start of their careers? I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think of any. Many come out later in their careers when they are established but not right at the startà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..not in the US anyhow.

Someone has to be the first then, no? Adam can totally do it. Besides, most people know he’s gay anyway, and I don’t think it has really hurt him. Sure, he may have lost some votes in AI because of it – but I doubt many of those people would have paid for his music even if he was straight.

  • thedingoateyobaby

Adam already has a limited amount of success even with the knowledge of his being Gay. I think problems arise when people have no idea and then they find out. Its like you’re a leper and its ridiculous. I just think it wont affect his career that much at this point.

Freddie Mercury was blatantly Gay but he wouldnt admit to it. Same with Elton, everyone knew but they didnt want to come out. It was also the height of the AIDS epidemic and there was a lot of fearmongering going on. I think that in Eltons case he kept denying it and he even got married. I think that was a lot of the reason for the intense backlash here in stuffy America.

I just think things have changed a bit. Its not perfect. I would have bought Queen’s and Elton’s music regardless.

I didnt say they wouldnt talk clearone, I said if you lay it out in public, there isnt much more to talk about. Its the secret that sells the rags.

This is all MO. Nothing more.

  • savgal

The point I was trying to make: If Adam comes out now, it overshadows Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idol win. Adam and Kris need to be allowed to at least get through the post-Idol news cycle if the issue is going to be addressed. If Adam were to come out now, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be all kinds of backlash about Adam trying to steal Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s thunderà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

mj, I agree with this somewhat. Many interviews post-Idol with Kris have been full of Adam references already, and Kris himself has been quick to “give it up for Adam” during a lot of them. I am just imagining if Adam makes an announcement now, the media will question Kris relentlessly about what it was like to be his roomie for so many months, instead of the focus being on the music.

  • Kirsten

I think most people won’t react either way because they just don’t care. It will be just “whatever”. The chattering masses will make it seem like everyone cares, but I really think most people are pretty blasà © about people coming “out” these days (“and in other news, the sky is blue”). Adam’s just toying with the press right now and the press is running after the subject like a cat with piece of string because they all want to beat each other in being the one he talks to (“Oooo! Look, we are the ones trusted with the celeb’s secrets because we are the important magazine/paper/show”. “Ooo! Look, we got the scoop everybody else was chasing!”). It’s not like having a kid is shocking or unusual, but all the press wanted to be the first to have celeb baby whatever on their covers too. They just like to beat each other.

I am just imagining if Adam makes an announcement now, the media will question Kris relentlessly about what it was like to be his roomie for so many months, instead of the focus being on the music.

Eh. Whatever. Kris seems completely comfortable in his skin. He’ll handle that question easily and move onto the next one.

What kind of shocks me is that they make these kids share a room. Seriously, this show makes a gazillion dollars and they can’t pony up enough for each to have the privacy of their own room? Like I’d go on a business trip for my company if I had to share a hotel room with my co-workers. Sure, they make people share rooms on those “live in a house until you crack” shows because that’s how you make them crack. This is a “singing” show. People need some down time. Maybe I’m just too introverted, but that bugs me. Sure, have them share a two-bedroom apartment or a mansion, but give them their own room. For those who like to bond and chat, they can hang out in the living room.

  • JudyOhio

Many come out later in their careers when they are established but not right at the startà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..not in the US anyhow.

I agree. My concern is with his being able to grow his fanbase post idol. AI is all about competition. The American public was able to observe Adam on a weekly basis over a long period of time in a judgemental manner. The nature of the program creates a will he or won’t he make it atmosphere both during and after the competition. Even though he has the buzz, he hasn’t yet arrived and could end up yesterday’s news by this time next year. It’s still up in the air as to whether he will sell huge amounts of CDs and/or fill up arenas. It’s unfortunate that he has to contend with this scrutiny in the infancy of his career. Most pop/rock stars pretty much just “arrive” seemingly out of the blue and are suddenly discovered through their music only (not visuals). But not so for AI winners, runners-up, or competitors. They are still trying to break through even after the confetti falls.

I think women are more accepting of the gay male in general, but hetero males not so much. (I think men like Kris are the exception rather than the rule). I’d love to see Adam rise to stardom with mass appeal and without all this baggage. I much prefered when he was thought of simply as a metrosexual by the casual viewer, but the genie is out of the bottle, so doubt this story will end without some stupid confession, sigh. In the end, I hope he will be able to soar above all of this intrusive media frenzy.

If society had moved past it the media wouldn’t be the least bit interested in it. Let’s be real, they are interested because it sells or gives them ratings.

If society had moved past it, Adam would probably be the American Idol right now.

“Hope heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not on the cover- fabulous as he is, he has not deserved it yet, and it could backlash with RS readers (who so far are quite supportive of Adam, unlike what usually happens with other Idols).”

Just in the past year RS has put the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, the cast of Gossip Girl, and the cast of The Hills on its cover. Let’s just say that the RS cover doesn’t mean what it used to and based on talent and what he achieved on the biggest show on US TV Adam sure deserves it more than any of those people I mentioned.

“I know, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interesting how the music pros have embraced Adam unlike the do other idols. ”

Other idols have gotten plenty of support from music pros out of the gate. Nashville was full of people really excited about Carrie coming out of AI. John Mayer said he was interested in working with Taylor Hicks even though that didn’t materialize. David Cook got to work with Raine Maida, one of his favorites. IIRC Ruben had plenty of people interested in working with him too. Too, didn’t Brian May ask Constantine to sing on a Queen tribute album?

  • Tess

Adam is a grown man with a mind of his own. He is totally capable of making his own decisions and only he will suffer the consequences of those decisions. I would assume that he has spoken with the people he loves and trusts to get some guidance but he may have also decided just to be true to himself. Whatever happens happens and it is then our choice as fans to continue to support Adam or to turn our backs on him if his decisions do not sync with our life choices. Everyone just needs to remember it is what it is.

  • JudyOhio

    ^^^ Well said Tess.

  • Ellie2

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I just wanted to relay a conversation I had last night when I was talking outside with a bunch of my neighbors. We were discussing Adam and this RS story (Adam is THE topic of conversation amongst the 30 and 40 something suburban moms around here) and the overall response was a big “so what?” As one mom said, “Who cares? I’m still throwing my panties at him on the tour.”

The really interesting part was when one neighbor’s 16-year-old daughter joined the conversation. She said no one she knows cares if Adam’s gay and that she and her friends actually hope he is. I asked why and she said, “Because thinking about Adam and another guy is hot! But imagining him with a girl just makes me jealous. And it’s boring.” She was very matter of fact about it all.

I hope this post doesn’t offend anyone and I’m not making a blanket statement about all teenage girls here. But I do think it’s premature to assume that Adam officially coming out will turn off the teenage girl fanbase en masse.

  • adamlover

i didnt go thru all the posts so i dont know if this was posted yet, but in this morning’s new york daily news, there is an article that adam is “coming out” in his interview with RS (supposedly from a reliable source) and that the daily news called to confirm but RS said they didnt give out information about future articles.

i honestly dont know why this is such a big issue, but i hope that this doesnt hurt his career. i liked the fact that he kept people speculating (even though noone was really ever speculating).

No offence taken but gosh that is a sad way for kids to think.

I’ll be honest. I like the ‘not knowing’. While it doesn’t bother in general, when it’s ‘in my face’ it does. Does that make me hypocrite? Probably but it’s the way I feel. I still think he’s making a big mistake but I hope I’m proven wrong.

  • mmb

Re: Rolling Stone, I doubt there would be a “yep, I’m gay” statement..it will be more matter of fact, like him referring to a boyfriend in conversation, or casually mentioning his gayness or whatever. I’m sure that Adam thinks the speculation is hilarious because, really, how could there be any speculation? People who are “in the closet” do not make the overt references Adam makes. To change the subject a bit, I think the z100 interviewer comments were telling/interesting, when they remarked how they barely mentioned Kris during the Adam interview, but Adam was discussed all through the Kris interview…I like Kris, and wish him every success — he is the American Idol winner — but there is no doubt that Adam is a STAR

  • Ellie2

No offence taken but gosh that is a sad way for kids to think.

Really? I thought it was a pretty honest response from a 16-year-old. Not sad, just sort of silly, as teenagers often are. The part that really struck me was that she had no problem with the idea of two men together. Things have changed a lot since I was in high school and I think it’s a good thing.

ETA: And what do you mean, “in my face?” Adam just talking honestly about his sexuality isn’t putting anything in anyone’s face, IMO. And even if it was, so what? Is that the new standard? You can be gay so long as you don’t talk about it or “flaunt” it? To me, that’s just as bad as telling people being gay is wrong or discriminating against them because of it.

Well, not many people are interested in the sex life of any singer before they become famous, so it’ll be weird if you actually know their sexual orientation before they become stars. Even then, there are many many rock and pop stars who are known to be gay, lesbian or bi almost from the beginning. Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes is lesbian, Billie Jo Armstrong of Green Day is bi, Jake Shears from Scissors Sisters and Rufus Wainwright are gay. There are even more if you look at rock and pop stars from Britain.

People from Europe in general aren’t bother at all by the sexual orientation of stars, so Adam is right to want to put out an album that would appeal to an international audience, I think his music can do well in the UK (making himself known to Brits however would be more of a problem because American Idol doesn’t have a big audience in the UK). I don’t think he would have problems becoming successful in the States either, time is changing, most young Americans don’t have problem with gays. Being gay would be a problem if you want to sing country, but really not so much in rock or pop. (Just as an aside, Randy Travis who made such a fuss over Adam’s appearance was himself rumoured to be gay, and apparently got married very quickly once the rumour emerged which some might say is a typical closet gay behaviour.)

  • sallyas1

Sure, Adam may be the first openly gay man to come out before his rock career takes off. But consider the times with the other, big names. Being gay is still “taboo”, but not nearly to the extent it was when Elton John, Freddy Mercury, and Rob Halford came out. I don’t think it will hurt his career. Don’t think it will help either. It will be a non-entity.

I’m in 2 boats on whether I want him to address it. On one hand, it is none of our business. But that’s being naive. Sure it is none of our business, but since when has that stopped the fans from discussing it?

On the other hand, the questions won’t stop. I fear they will continue to the point of interferring with Adam’s music – either taking his focus away from that or more likely the promotion of it later. So for Adam to address it now should end all that.

But…I like Adam’s comments about speculation keeping things interesting. I will be very surprised if he does not find a way to keep that perspective.

As for Kara answering the questions – should she have lied? No – she just should have not answered the question.
The View should have not asked it – but they were looking to get the first “scoop”. And they aren’t the classiest of shows anyway.

Based on the current US population, Idol viewers, and record sales Adam doesn’t have to worry too much about what people think. He only needs 1% of the population to buy his albums to be a success. And you can’t tell me that there isn’t at least 1% of our country’s population that isn’t fair and open minded and will just buy Adam’s album ’cause they like him and his singing.

Were this anyone other than Adam, I would be somewhat worried. Adam has handled himself beautifully thus far, despite the pictures plastered all over the web, and I have faith he’ll continue to make wise decisions about his career and make decisions that he can live with…most Idol contestants would struggle to respond to pictures of themselves in drag, much less making out with another man, but Adam simply smiles & says he likes to dress up (& he looks amazing in anything!). If he is happy, then I am happy. He is such a sincere person I find myself really worried about his happiness, & I don’t even know him.

Thanks for the perspective building exercise, Tess. That’s very comforting to me. :-)

Regarding Kara, I too believe she was just being matter of fact and honest about her experience with Adam on the show and behind the scenes. Say what you will about her speaking on a national talk show, but it’s totally true that she’s not saying anything that most people aren’t already thinking and saying. Out? But he’s never been in, has he? Also, while perhaps slightly distinguishable, Simon’s comments (about how Adam’s sexuality has never been a big deal on Idol) and Paula’s response to Ryan when questions about sexuality came up with Adam present (that talent has no prejudice and is color-blind) are not substantively different to me. Distinction without a difference.

    Much ado about nothing.

And, in your face? The only “in your face” I’ve seen are all the media peeps demanding to know, apparently reflecting the public cry for an “admission,” and I agree, it’s offensive. I think I’ll stop now, for fear of what I might say next. LOL

Well either Rolling Stone has changed their criteria, which is possible in this particular economic climate and it would not be surprising that RS is struggling, it would appear it been gradually losing its lustre as the music industry’s standard bearer but how does Adam rate the cover yet. I can’t remember if or when Cook got on the cover and he was the winner of AI right?

I remember when getting on the cover meant you had accomplished something musically and occasionally other entertainment fields. Is runnerup in Idol sufficent to fill the criteria now. I remember one of my fav bands had to sell 10 million copies of their album to get onto the cover of Rolling Stone [American version, they got plenty of Australian Rolling Stone covers before that time]

I certainly hope for example that proven music types like the Kings of Leon are getting on a cover of RS before Adam or even Kris. I don’t think winning Idol makes you worthy frankly. Newsworthy I guess. Not music worthy. Not until you prove you got the true musical goods with your first album. It is especially ironic given the general level of disdain RS heaps on Idol editorially.

Thanks, I appreciate the sentiment. I am just having such a good time….

I am very analytical and I try really hard to put things into perspective for myself. Besides, I’m a google junkie and it is fun to learn new things….I hand no idea what the US population was….see blogging can be very educational.

I find it interesting that Adam’s stature in the music industry is oftentimes directly related by some to whether he will sell albums, eventually. I went to Itunes this morning and I believe that Adam’s AI “album” is the 2nd or 3rd top selling “album”. Isn’t this somewhat a measure of success? Also, his AI videos (every last one of them) are in the top 50 video sales. I don’t know for sure but I have the feeling that he probably sold a few tunes during the course of the season, too.

Also, Adam is the media darling right now. And not just because of his “ambiguous” sexuality. He “burst” onto the music season, with AI as his vehicle, and made a lot of people sit up and take notice. He did something totally different from the usual fare that the show presented and it got people talking. Yes, his songs were covers but he sang them in his “unique” style and he made performances out of 90 seconds of singing. And in reality his body of work was totally different than anyone else who came before him in 8 seasons.

Adam is really something “new” on the music scene. The media rags aren’t “degrading” themselves by covering him nor are they being disrespectful to other artists. Maybe he will never sell ANY original material but it doesn’t make him any less “significant” at this time and in this place. He really has earned his 15 minutes of fame by being unique and causing a stir…very few artists can ever do that.

Just as a quick comparison think how many Actors or Actresses get phenomenal press after 1 brief high profile movie role. Have they really proven themselves as an actor that can stay the course. Absolutely not. Are they newsworthy? Yup, for the brief time it takes until a “new” somebody will knock them off their perch.

I have no problem with Adam “coming out” in the media if that’s what he wants .. even though personally I don’t think he has to and it doesn’t bother me either way (plus I’ve never considered him to be “in”) … but I’ll be pretty p*ssed if the whole emphasis of the article and on the cover is about his sexuality and not about his music and his general fabulousness.

Even though I have no delusions that he isn’t gay I kind of like the air of mystery it gives him with him not making a definite statement either way … I kind of like the notion that it’s fun to speculate and makes people more interesting ….. but so saying this I appreciate Adam’s right to make a statement to clear up all the ambiguity if that’s what he want’s to do or has been advised to do.

  • dbt

Sorry if this is the wrong place (or if it’s already been posted) … but last night on NPR – the radio show “Fresh Air” had a piece about Adam (and Kris, indirectly). It was the last 15 minutes, or so, of the show. I *think* the ‘review’ was a guy from NY Times?????
Basically, he loves that Adam is daring and unique … thinks Kris is decent, but safe.

I enjoyed listening to it. Just wanted to pass it along in case you hadn’t heard it.

Rolling Stone doesn’t just put recording artists on its cover — they also put tv stars, politicians etc….at this point Adam is a TV Star and itunes star….he is certainly as deserving of the cover as, for example, the crew from The Hills! While he has not yet proven himself as a recording artist, in this media saturated world he has proven himself as a media star…everyone wants a piece of him

  • al2009atw

I was worried at first but the more I think about it, the more I think it’s not a bad idea for Adam to get “it” out of the way! I thought Clay waited too long and it kinda hurt him??

I agree with some posts saying that people who doesn’t like the “I am gay” talk from Adam wasn’t a fan anyway and probably won’t be one. In terms of future fan base, I think it will depend on his music choices and not his sexual orientation. Honestly, I have said it many times, I know he is gay and I still find him really really attractive. I also prefer him to have a boyfriend than a girlfriend!

Very true. And as much as I eagerly await his album, I don’t need to hear it in order to say the guy is amazing. I knew that the moment he hit his first note. He doesn’t have to write his own music, he doesn’t have to play an instrument. His voice is, even objectively speaking, phenomenal. And don’t even get me started on his stage presence.

Is runnerup in Idol sufficent to fill the criteria now.

Clay had the cover shortly after he won runner-up in S2. So there is precedent.

  • Zerika

Is runnerup in Idol sufficent to fill the criteria now.

If Adam gets the cover, it won’t be because he’s the runner up in Idol. It’s because he’s Adam. He’s already a media darling, and many people (including both us regular fans and people in the music business) are really, really excited about him. And some of those excited people just happen to work for Rolling Stone :devil_tb:

  • cay

Rolling Stone has felt all season that Adam has accomplished something phenomenal in music. They claim he is the first true rock singer to come out of Idol. They repeatedly admire his boldness, and ability to bring something new to the tired old Idol format. They are impressed with his ability to make songs fresh, and reinvigorate glamrock and glampop. They feel he introduced some renewed excitement and energy into music over the past few months. When music has become so generic and dry, Adam has made music fun again.

It’s not how much you sell, it’s if you are a true artist. Rolling Stone has all season loved and admired what Adam did artistically. They see true guts and talent. He bought his own “Adam” style of music. That is worthy of a cover. It is extremely rare to find a counter tenor singer who can move from chest to head to falsetto without breaks. It is very rare to have a rock singer with that range so that’s why true rock gods have fallen for Adam this year. They get it. So does Rolling Stone.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“That is an interesting question. I actually donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Danny, I actually think they got along. I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Scott and Michael.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    – Based on body language and critical observation during the Top 5 down to the Top 2, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Matt (but I hope Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m wrong).

I’m 99% certain it’s Michael Sarver. Adam’s brother posted one thing he had said to Adam and he alluded to much more that really upset him.

  • kijico3

can anyone tell me what date the RS issue is? I called my local Borders today, and they won’t reserve magazine copies, BWAAH! The EW issue sold out and I never got one. Thanks!

  • SLR

TwigLA, where are you reading the posts done by Adam’s brother?

  • Tess

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m 99% certain ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Michael Sarver.

If I were to describe Michael based on the infinitesimal amount I know about him I would say that he may not have been to comfortable with Adam. Using stereotypical measurements only I would think that since Michael belongs to a seemingly far right conservative Christian fellowship, that he is a family man that apparently got married young and had Children very quickly, that he lives in an area of the country (Jasper, Texas) that tends to be pretty conservative socially and politically, that he worked in a very blue collar field that is usually inhabited by “the good old boys” who tend to be pretty proud of their masculinity, and especially because of his “Godly” comment and the way he plastered it on a public website that he isn’t real comfortable with anyone who is openly “gay”. I am sure he and Adam had absolutely nothing in common and that neither one of them went out of their way to explore each other’s lives. Just guessin that they weren’t and aren’t the best of friends.

  • revcat

Matt seems like a really fun guy and has been entertaining all along, probably in bars, well before Idol, so probably not a narrow minded guy. Although Kris is a dedicated Christian he sang in bars as well. I’m assuming Danny and Michael did most of their singing in their respective fundamentalist churches, so its probably one of them. BTW I don’t see how Michael ever made top 10, he’s not very appealing. And I could be wrong, but I don’t think Danny is going to be big in the music world, but for some weird reason, I can see him as an actor. I just hope he doesn’t go on Dancing With the Stars because that would be like giving up on his career before it even begins; even though I’m not a fan I’d hate to see him shoot himself in the foot. Back to the topic at hand, if Adam doesn’t make some kind of statement it will look like he’s ashamed of his status and I know he’s not (ashamed)…besides anyone who knows how to Google figured it out eons ago. Let’s deflate those pink elephants (are you listening Ryan?) Those who like Adam will continue to like him, end of story.

  • lavender1960

I find it interesting that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s stature in the music industry is oftentimes directly related by some to whether he will sell albums, eventually.

The reality is that the stature of any artist in the record industry now and forever has been judged by the number of albums an artist HAS sold and/or making groundbreaking original music. Along with how many concert tickets that artist can sell.

I don’t think they give out Grammies for innovative arrangement of cover songs in a reality competition though indeed there are best selling artists that do primarily covers like a Michael Buble or Josh Groban or Matt Dusk.

  • Tess

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think they give out Grammies for innovative arrangement of cover songs

    ya they do!

  • lavender1960

I added “in a reality competition”, bwah.

Because how many actual downloads are Kris and Adam getting. I have seen the numbers so far. It looks good on iTunes for now but those numbers do not a hit single make in the real world. [Check out Kanye West who just reached 3 million paid downloads of his version of “Heartless”]

The truer test is you put out that cover single in the real radio world on the same playing field as the rest of the artists out there and then I will concede greatness. Even then Idol winners and runners up still have a leg up in many respects and they also have a disadvantage as there are certain radio stations who will refuse to play the song of an Idol winner, runner up or contestant, ever or until they have sold so many units the program director can’t say no anymore. However that tends to be the rock stations who likely have a limited audience compared to Top 40, Pop and Adult Contemporary. However rock is a odd genre in that many rock bands especially metal don’t get much radio play and yet they still sell millions of albums and sell out their tours. Loyal fanbases who probably don’t bother listening to radio in the first place.

ETA “No Boundaries” may chart but come on, that baby ain’t winning no Grammies, no matter who was singing it. If it does then the music industry is dead. And Cook and Daughtry fans will be shocked to learn that Adam is considered the first true rock singer to come from Idol.

  • unique28v

If Adam gets the cover, it wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be because heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the runner up in Idol. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s because heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Adam. • lovethecheesyshow

I remember on Larry king, Adam was smiling and watching the person whoever was talking intently, exxept Michael! the second Michael started to talk, Adam’s smile just disappeared. I thought “well, apparently, they are not good friends.”

Neil Lambert’s comments also suggested Michael and Danny might not be too comfortable or genuinely nice towards Adam.

so I’m guessing Michael could be the one.

it’s crazy I don’t even know what is it that everyone is talking about. but I bet it’s Michael or Danny, lol!

  • CaliforniaGirl

I sure hope Adam doesn’t feel the need to come out in RS. I would be HUGELY disappointed if he did. The only person for whom his sexuality should be an issue is the person he’s sleeping with!! For all others, get out of his bedroom and leave the man in peace…..

This whole issue reminds me of how it went down for another talented male singer during his career in the 80s and 90s. George Michael played “cat & mouse” with the press his entire career, and while those close to him always knew he was gay and he never tried to hide it, he was unwilling to ever give the press those three words they longed to hear: “I Am Gay.” Then in ’98 he was entrapped by the Beverly Hills police and forced to say what everyone already knew was true.

To this day, GM is massively popular in Europe but has only a small following in the US. But whenever he is mentioned in the press it’s always “Gay singer George Michael.” That is his identifying moniker. It is apparent that the press can’t wait for the declaration from their “prey,” but then when they get it they never let it die.

For those who feel that Adam should just come out and declare his sexuality and then the press will leave him alone are being idealistic and naiive. He will forever be labeled “Gay singer Adam Lambert.”

IMO, Adam should continue to live his life as he sees fit and perhaps take a lesson from GM and allow the speculation to continue as he grows his career. If he ends the speculation this early in the game then I daresay he is not really the rebel he professes to be. He’s got the press lapping at his heels right now and can keep it interesting by continuing his clever one-liner deflections in response to questions that are no one’s business but his and the person he’s sleeping with.

    Asian fan here!

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t understand why Americaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s focus is not more on Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s singing instead of his sexuality à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ which is only an issue of his private lifestyle. I do worry a bit and am not sure an open statement would or would not harm Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s singing career which has just started. Adam is great and amazing with all his performances! I am very frustrated that iTunes does not allow downloads by international fans! Thank you very much for this site as I can see so many interviews and videos of Adam after AI which I did not expect. After reading and watching all these interviews, I like Adam as a talented, best singer and artist as much as I like his great personality. It is not easy in the real world to always look positive, remain true to your own, stand firm against negative comments, and take all critics with a sense of humor. I wish Adam a huge success in his singing career and turn into an international star!!!!

Many, many artists have reached SuperStar status by singing covers.
Unless Sinatra, Streisand, Garland, etc. don’t count.

I don’t really want to compare Adam to George Michael. I think GM is mainly known now for his bathroom antics and drug issues. I’m hopping Adam doesn’t go there.

  • clearone

    CaliforniaGirl, totally agree.

    Add me to that list.

  • revcat

The fact that Adam came in 2nd in a reality show designed for “middle America” proves that there are plenty of fans out there who couldn’t care less about his personal life. Like I said before, it was no secret to anyone who Googles. You can’t compare him to Freddie or (god forbid) Clay because he’s Adam and this is 2009 (post privacy era).

Adam transcends boundaries because of his talent and natural born charisma. I am a “member” of a Facebook fan site, and he already has a lot of fans from Latin America. I’m a teacher and my Hispanic students love him. Isn’t the Latino culture supposed to be conservative? He’s definitely got the buzz and Rolling Stone is gonna ride that wave just like everybody else.

  • aek

From what I read, he (Adam’s brother) commented that he couldn’t stand Sarver. He was referring to the “ungodly” video. He said that, to him, it seemed like “Gokey was just joking.”

However, he was not nice about Danny as a contestant…calling him lame. Not very nice for a contestant’s family member to go off on other contestants as performers…imo.

    Hi all–
Just returned from the dearlydeparted tour through L.A. which is fabulous! The tour guide, a fabulous gay man who I adore, has friends who know Adam and says that Adam is a 100% openly gay man who his friends see often at gay bars.
