    Congratulations to Lambert.

But I have to say, after reading the list, I kind of want Mayer to win, just so I can see how he “thanks” Taylor Swift.

    I am a bad person.

  • bridgette12

Now that’s a album I want to buy. Glad to see Adam was included, he deserved to be on there.

  • Studio57

I already own 13 of the 19 tracks on the album, so won’t be buying it for the rest, but good on Adam! Now if he could just nab a spot on the show. I know a few stars have been named to the lineup already like Katy, Biebs, and Bruno, but someone here said they add people right up to the last minute? That would be the icing on the cake for me!

Wish I could say I was glad Glee was on there but I just cannot muster up any kudos for a cover song on a grammy album.

  • sr4mjc

But I have to say, after reading the list, I kind of want Mayer to win, just so I can see how he “thanks” Taylor Swift.

LMAO! You know, as many times as I’ve seen the Pop list, it just didn’t connect that he was nominated for the Swifty song. I was thinking Heartbreak Warfare this whole time. So, Swifty by association is in another vocal category. :(

Go Adam though! But I’m sure it’ll be MJ.

  • Planet Fierce

First, let me say thank you MJ for a new thread that includes Adam!!!!!

I can hear Adam now coming down the red carpet, “It’s just such an honor to be nominated…”, bullshit, he needs to win this sucka straight up!!! I am crossing all appendages 24/7 until he does!

  • Tess

Dear Taylor….at some point she is going to be the pariah of the industry as she goes through celebrities like most girls go through hair spray. Somebody needs to clue her in that high profile hook-ups that are staged for publicity and marketing aren’t always beneficial in the long run.

  • Studio57

If the Grammys give it to MJ I really would be pissed. The media and music organizations have to get off their “we’re sorry we ignored/ridiculed/shunned you until you died” guilt trip with MJ and just let him R.I.P. because that song is not worthy of a Grammy and everyone knows it. I would rather see him lose to Bruno but honestly feel Adam deserves it the most.

Having said that I will not go crying over it if he doesn’t it IS an honor just to be nominated ;)

  • koshka

Somebody needs to clue her in that high profile hook-ups that are staged for publicity and marketing aren’t always beneficial in the long run.

I agree.. but it does give the illusion that she is growing up &/or takes off some of that “doe-eyed” look about her. She does just kinda needs to stop now & hook up with someone behind the scenes.

ETA: I feel exactly the same way about MJ. I was young (and living in LA) when the MJ kerfluffles were on TV e-v-e-r-y single night. People act like such hypocrites about him.

  • Tess

Since I am not an awards show type of person…what other idols have been nominated for grammys and who have been the fortunate ones to win…not talking about Best New Artist or any “songwriter” awards. Things like Artist, record, or album.

  • artemis

Oh-I can’t wait to buy this. Congratulations Adam! I’m so happy to see real talent recognized.

  • tuti

im confused ,how many times mj get nominated?didnt last time taylor swift win against mj.i respect mj but hes in recent years didnt active him self.

i love adam but i think bruno mars or others will win, adam dosent have great sales than othrs.

  • Tess

adam dosent have great sales than othrs.

The grammys, supposedly, isn’t about the sales but about the “quality” of the song or performance. This is why people feel the grammy has much more meaning than many other awards. Also, winners are chosen by voting exclusively within the industry…no fan voting for this award.

  • http://justalittlespace.blogspot.com ClaireC

Congratulations Adam! Whatever happens on awards night that it great company to be in.

  • tls62

Congrats to Adam. To be recognized by your peers within the industry is a great honor.

Performing, winning….who knows. But….new outift??? Hell yes!! :)

  • Studio57

I hope he has a whole new look and stays on the down low until then. Long hair, please ;)

  • JazzRocks

I’m glad this is finally verified. And I’m so happy for the nomination AND the album inclusion. I will be even happier if (in ascending order):
    1) He presents
    2) He performs
    3) He WINS!

Tess, Idols who have been nominated for a Grammy:

    Kelly Clarkson
    Ruben Studdard
    Fantasia
    Carrie Underwood
    Daughtry
Ace Young (for the song he wrote with Daughtry that was nominated)
    Mandisa
Jordin Sparks (for her duet with Chris Brown)
    Adam Lambert

  • madness

Yeah, congrats to Adam!!! I cannot help but notice that all of the male pop vocal performance nominees are on the album, but none of the female top vocal perf are? That alone surprises me.

  • Soberba

The media and music organizations have to get off their “we’re sorry we ignored/ridiculed/shunned you until you died” guilt trip with MJ

I don’t think is a guilt trip at all. If they want to redeem his reputation is because there’s still a lot of money to be made out of him. Apparently Sony still has a lot of unreleased songs and they intend to release original albuns for years (my sister is a huge fan and talks about it all the time).

Congrats to Adam. I’ll buy the album for sure. And I hope he wins, but if he loses, I hope is for Michael.

  • kidding

I cannot help but notice that all of the male pop vocal performance nominees are on the album, but none of the female top vocal perf are? That alone surprises me.

This could be the explanation according to Buffynut in the Headlines thread:

not sure if this is the case, but maybe they alternate Pop male and female each year. Last year’s CD had all the Pop female nominees on and zero of the male.

ETA: And Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Beyonce are included on the cd (just not their songs nominated for Pop Vocal Performance).

  • bridget

Of course, I’d like Adam to win, but I’d be almost okay with Bruno Mars. MJ winning would be aggravating to me because it would so strongly suggest that the voters didn’t really vote for what they considered the best vocal performance. (I’ve only read the opinion that MJ will likely win, but not the opinion that his vocal really is the best.)

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m glad this is finally verified. And I’m so happy for the nomination AND the album inclusion. I will be even happier if (in ascending order):
    1) He presents
    2) He performs
    3) He WINS!

At this point, the most I’m hoping for is that Adam presents an award, but anything more would be fantastic! It would be good if the award for his category is broadcast, even if he doesn’t win.

  • istersay

    Yay, congrats to Adam!

I will be even happier if (in ascending order):
    1) He presents
    2) He performs
    3) He WINS!

    Ditto!

  • Planet Fierce

Definitely buying this CD. And yes, no taking back what I said up top, but it IS an honor for Adam to be nominated by his peers…I feel the industry is rallying around him, and it is good to see..he is SOOOOO talented and such a good person, why shouldn’t they acknowledge him this way, right?

    I like this alot!

    1) He presents
    2) He performs
    3) He WINS!

Just make #1 begin with: Red Carpet-Killer outfit and totally HOT look!

  • madness

Thanks kidding. Lucky for us Adam fans (and Adam) it is the year for male pop vocals!!

  • smeggingnuts

There has been some speculation that since all the nominees for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance are included that the catagory will be televised which would be awesome…..especailly if Adam wins (which I am really not holding my breath for).

Think that if it isn’t MJ it will be Bruno. I think this is going to be Bruno’s year for Grammy’s.

And sadly if having all the nominees for a particular catagory means they will televise it then we are also going to see Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. And you know what that means right? We get to see Pat Monahan from Train in another pair of shiny to tight pants.

  • Miss Chaos

Really a pretty eye catching Album cover, so happy Adam is on it. As far as winning, can only hope, but just dont see it happening yet. Who knows how they do their judging. If its truely on vocals, hey, he just might do it. But so awesome being nominated.

  • cwm

Yay! Really happy that Adam is on the Grammy CD and that the song list has been verified. I’ll buy it — looks like a good CD.

    And with this,

I will be even happier if (in ascending order):
    1) He presents
    2) He performs
    3) He WINS!

    I couldn’t agree more!

AND looking forward to a great outfit on the red carpet. :-)

  • mmb

I think j- HUD has been nominated for a Grammy as well, no? 10 Grammy nominees over 9 seasons is a fantastic statistic.

  • Cate

Just saw Bruno on the Ellen show and his voice wasn’t impressive; in fact, kind of annoying to me (on the song he sang).

  • Q3

not sure if this is the case, but maybe they alternate Pop male and female each year. Last year’s CD had all the Pop female nominees on and zero of the male.

Actually, the Recording Academy picks the categories to be on the album. And Pop male and female vocal categories do not alternate. Here is the info for recent year based on GRAMMY.com Press Releases and the actual CDs. (I do not know why Elton John was missing one year.)

Since they started producing the GRAMMY Nominees CD in 1995, the nominees for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance have usually been included. Recently, however, the nominees for this category were not included (2008, 2009 or 2010). Here is a summary of the CDs and which categories were included in recent years.

(Sony/Jive) 2011 CD 2010 GRAMMY Nominees CD included nominees for Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

(EMI) 2010 GRAMMY Nominees CD included nominees for Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals, and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.”

(Warners/Rhino) 2009 GRAMMY Nominees CD represent nominees from the Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Best New Artist, Song Of The Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals categories.

(UMG/Hip-O/Ume) 2008 GRAMMY Nominees CD included nominees for Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals.

(Sony/BMG) 2007 GRAMMY Nominees CD included Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Best New Artist, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals categories.

(EMI/Capital) 2005 GRAMMY Nominees CD. Yes, BMPVP on album

(BMG) 2004 GRAMMY Nominees CD. Yes, BMPVP on album

(Warner) 2003 GRAMMY Nominees CD. Yes, BMPVP on album except Elton John

(Universal) 2002 GRAMMY Nominees CD. Yes, BMPVP on album

Also, the album is a benefit album and the major labels rotate who issues it. Rhino (technically and independent label) issued it in 2009 but they are distributed by Warner and did it for Warner’s year.

There is a oddity with BMG in 2004 and then Sony/BMG in 2006 because 2006 was Sony’s year and Sony acquired BMG. If Warners is broken up (as it appears will happen), it will probably be the remaining 3 major labels who release this album.

Finally, Sony had nothing to do with selecting the tracks for this album contrary to what was reported by an Examiner reporter.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that the Grammys should acknowledge musical talent, regardless of whether a person is deemed “a good person” or not.

Congrats to Adam for being nominated.

Based on Zsus list of idols who were nominated in the past, so there is at least one idol from every season who got nominated up to Season 6, then we have Adam for Season 8.

    S1 – Kelly
    S2 – Ruben
    S3 – Fantasia / Jennifer
    S4 – Carrie
    S5 – Daughtry / Ace / Mandisa
    S6 – Jordin
    S8 – Adam

Will be curious to see if any idols from S7 and S9 to get a Grammy nomination in future.

LOL! Maybe he was just having a bad day. I don’t think he should be put in the same category with Swifty, who critically acclaimed for her lovely vocal abilities.

  • fuzzywuzzy

haha that has nothing apparently to do with it *cough* T. Swift *cough*

    hehe sorry couldn’t resist

I know what you mean, but the Grammys are based on recordings, not live singing. Taylor sounds fine on her recordings, and I think that Katy Perry is a much worse singer live than Taylor.

Jennifer Hudson won a Grammy for Best R&B Album.

    http://www.popcrunch.com/jennifer-hudson-grammy-awards-acceptance-speech-best-rb-album/

So far, Kelly, Carrie and JHud are the ex-Idols who have won Grammys.

  • Soberba

Like mmb said, Jennifer Hudson was not only also nominated, but she won the Grammy in 2009 – Best R&B Album.

  • emmuzka

Great for Adam! I think that the win will go to either MJ (because they like to give awards to dead people, never mind that MJ’s vocal talent was rather questionable that time), or Bruno Mars (not that his vocal talents would exceed Adam’s but because the song is better and more popular than his.)

If the Grammy people know what they are doing, they’ll give Adam a performance slot, because they can hype it for viewership. Ooh, will he do something controversial? Will there be a time lag? A casual viewer might remember Just the way you are better than Whataya Want From Me, but as performances go, they do have a larger expectation of being entertained by Adam than by Bruno.

  • Studio57

In case people have never seen the list of past BMVP nominees:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Male_Pop_Vocal_Performance

I guess we shouldn’t count out John Mayer since he won 4 times in the past 10 years.

Also, I think this year’s nominess is the tighest race in years when looking at that list. each performer is pretty impressive, and the songs were all pretty good hits.

  • fuzzywuzzy

It’s weird, because ever since the advent of technology to “fix” vocals on recordings, artists who aren’t good live singers are now eligible (and do) win best vocal performance Grammy awards based on their cleaned up recordings. So, will UMG/AI start to put less emphasis on vocals by contestants, and promote those who have other qualities, since singing well live is not longer a requirement for mega success as a pop artist?

  • smeggingnuts

I think that Katy Perry is a much worse singer live than Taylor.

omg yes alot of Katy’s songs are just out of her range live.

I guess we shouldn’t count out John Mayer since he won 4 times in the past 10 years.

I think that is why most people haven’t considered him because of that fact…hehe maybe he’s the default winner when no one else is really good….haha I kid I kid

And poor Buble no one seems to think he has a chance in hell of winning lol

  • Studio57

The list of winners for the last ten years

2010- Jason Mraz Make It Mine
    2009- John Mayer Say
2008- Justin Timberlake What Goes Around Comes Around
2007- John Mayer Waiting On The World To Change
2006- Stevie Wonder From The Bottom Of My Heart
    2005- John Mayer- Daughters
2004- Justin Timberlake Cry me A River
2003- John Mayer your Body Is A Wonderland
2002- James Taylor Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight
2001- Sting She Walks This Earth

i don’t think how big the hit is has anything to do with who wins, lol. I don’t even think voice hase anything to do with it ;)

They should just call it Male Mellow Vocal Performance

Or your first name has to start with a J or S. ;) Those are the only similarities I see.

  • AllenTX

nah, actually I think Buble might be the one to win. He’s one of the biggest seller for Warner Music, the label probably is very willing to campaign for him. And he’s won Grammy several times in traditional pop, that shows those voters do like him, now finally he gets a nom in more major category, people might actually are going to favor him.

  • smeggingnuts

They should just call it Male Mellow Vocal Performance

    hahaah MMVP

Or your first name has to start with a J or S. Those are the only similarities I see.

oh god your right….Adam doesn’t stand a chance LOL or he will break the trend ;)

  • Q3

I feel the industry is rallying around him, and it is good to see..he is SOOOOO talented and such a good person, why shouldn’t they acknowledge him this way, right?

I don’t know if “the industry” is rallying around Adam but getting nominated for a Grammy is a big deal no matter what category. And since Best Male Pop Vocalist is a genre category and all voting members of the Recording Academy can vote. Adam was at least one of the top 5 vote recipients for this award — and since this is an industry vote — not a fan popularity contest — a Grammy matters a lot.

I really am tired of all the Idol comparison lists because I really do not see what Adam and Ruben or Daughtry or Carrie have in common except they were all once on Idol.

I am just pleased that Adam’s vocal skill is getting some industry recognition.

They have been specifically mentioning Adam in the Grammy commercials, this is an important category this year and the only MJ nomination. I am very confident that the category will be broadcast. I would love to see Adam present an award, even better to see him win an award.* It is unlikely that he will perform but I keep thinking that a Pink-Adam duet of WWFM seems very much like a Grammy-worthy number.

    * Odds on fav is MJ to win but I still am hoping the Grammy voters do not vote for history and instead vote for the best performance.

  • smeggingnuts

They have been specifically mentioning Adam in the Grammy commercials

Hey Q3 if you basing this on twitter its not true so far the only commercials have had Miranda Lambert in them not Adam. There hasn’t been a confirmed commercial featuring Adam.

  • justshootme

I’m already over Bruno Mars. And Just The Way You Are is patronizing dreck. Do not like that song.

  • bridgette12

I like Bruno’s sound and think he has a great future. But if he’s smart, he will stop with the cocaine. He don’t want to end up being another Whitney and MJ.

  • Studio57

Or your first name has to start with a J or S. Those are the only similarities I see.

oh god your right….Adam doesn’t stand a chance LOL

let’s just be happy Justin Bieber isn’t nominated ;)

Yeah, I haven’t seen any commercials with Adam mentioned in them. It been all about Katy Biebs and Bruno.

Although I think it was really odd yesterday when Grammy on twitter kept mentioning a HUGE announcement and then it ended up being something about Eminem. I DO NOT mean that Eminem is not something huge but I think Grammy knows how crazy the Adam fans are- they are pretty much the most vocal group on their twitter. It almost seemed like a tease. Did anyone else feel that way? Yeah I know- sometimes I read into things a little too much.

Aw, Bridgette- I think Mars deserves a chance. I do believe that was his first offense, and one bust does not an addict make. Not saying it’s right but he is seriously so talented. You should look up his wiki- he is responsible for alot more than just his, Travie’s and B.O.B.’s songs. He also wrote or produced for Ceelo ( FU) and K’naan, and FloRida the past couple of years.

  • smeggingnuts

It almost seemed like a tease. Did anyone else feel that way? Yeah I know- sometimes I read into things a little too much.

hehe well as much as we would like it not everything is about Adam hehe

  • bridgette12

I think the Grammy producers like to tease and tantalize to keep people guessing who’s going to present and perform on their show.I am not expecting Adam to perform or even to win. Him getting nominated was a big surprise, so I happy with that. I can’t wait to see him walk the red carpet and take a lot of pictures.

Yeah, you’re right Smeggs- if I would have thought about it a little more I would have remembered the AMA’s did the same thing :(

  • koshka

I’m already over Bruno Mars. And Just The Way You Are is patronizing dreck. Do not like that song.

I thought I was the only one. Glad to see I have some company. There is also something about the vocal performance that I don’t care for. I might be in the production. I love Buble’s voice, although not so much his style. Feb. 13th (?) will be an interesting night. :)

  • fuzzywuzzy

And he’s won Grammy several times in traditional pop, that shows those voters do like him, now finally he gets a nom in more major category, people might actually are going to favor him.

According to his wiki page, Michael Buble has had 6 Grammy nominations since 2007 (including this year), and 2 wins (2008 Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album – Call me Irresponsible; 2010, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album – Michael Bublé Meets Madison Square Garden). Buble has been nominated for “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” twice, once in 2008 for “Everything”, and this year for “Haven’t Met You Yet”. He’s also been nominated again in the “Traditional Pop Vocal Album” category for Crazy Love.

  • car

Add me to the list of not a big fan of Just the Way you are. But Bruno is nominated in so may areas so I’m sure he will win a few and he should. For vocal performance I prefer Adam then John Mayer.

  • bmms

True!!! But then she’ll have nothing to write about, lol. Since practically many of her songs are about boys and men! Someone should also tell her that there is WAY more to life than broken romances and heartbreaks. Her songs are sickening. Now that Gyllenhaal broke up with her, I just can’t wait for another song about Dear Jake! Ugh.

  • justshootme

I love Buble’s voice, although not so much his style.

Same here. I do like some of his stuff, but Haven’t Met You Yet sounds like it was written for a commercial jingle. Possibly for a dating service. Do not like that song either.

  • jumpstart

It is unlikely that he will perform but I keep thinking that a Pink-Adam duet of WWFM seems very much like a Grammy-worthy number.

Outstanding! I absolutely loooovvvvveeee Pink. Together, they would freakin’ kill WWFM.

  • AllenTX

I don’t even know Everything got nom. Of all Buble’s original songs, I only like Home. That one should have won Grammy. The rest all sound so pedestrian.

  • Buffynut

I think Adam’s category is a very strong category. It IS an honor to be nominated with the other 4 nominees. However, if Adam doesn’t win, I think his strongest competition is Buble, not Bruno Mars. I think Bruno will win in one of his other 6 categories. Buble has never won for Best Male Pop Vocal and he’s had a very good year, both sales wise, BB #s, and with his tour. As far as MJ goes, I am going to give the voting members the benefit of the doubt to realize that last year was Michael’s big tribute show and this song isn’t good enough to win. And, Mayer’s won too many tomes already and ths song is just not that good either. So, IMO, it’s between Adam and Buble.

  • http://crystalfans.com/ Zsus

Ach!! How could I have left my beloved JHud off that list??

Q3, I’m not sure it’s about comparing Idols who have won or been nominated. It’s just interesting to see how well-represented Idol is regarding the Grammys. Since I’m a devoted fan of American Idol, the show, I like seeing that contestants from the show did get props from the industry, itself. But, as a huge fan of Adam Lambert, I’m even more pleased to see that he’s a nominee! :) And he’s in good company with that list of fellow Idols.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m not a big Buble fan either, but he’s an incredible concert draw (arenas) globally and has sold out Madison Square Gardens, solo.

  • Q3

Hey Q3 if you basing this on twitter its not true so far the only commercials have had Miranda Lambert in them not Adam. There hasn’t been a confirmed commercial featuring Adam.

Not based on Twitter, I heard it last night — just his name, no picture. And they mentioned 3 of the male pop vocal nominees — Bruno, Adam and Buble. I think there are multiple versions of the Grammy promo. Plus a lot of other nominees.

  • Q3

Q3, I’m not sure it’s about comparing Idols who have won or been nominated. It’s just interesting to see how well-represented Idol is regarding the Grammys. Since I’m a devoted fan of American Idol, the show, I like seeing that contestants from the show did get props from the industry, itself.

I am an Idol fan too. And I think it is great that Idols get nominated for Grammys.

I was just trying to post that it was a big deal for Adam to be nominated in a general category without having to mention that other Idols have gotten general nominations, too. (Kelly, Jordin, etc.) And hoping to avoid being reminded that he is not the first to get a Pop Vocal Performance nomination (Kelly 2004). And so on.

Idol someday might win an Emmy but this Grammy nomination belongs to Adam not AI. Granted he would not be here without Idol but then Idol would not be her without Adam and the other contestants.

Add me to the list of not a big fan of Just the Way you are.

You can add me to this list also. I disliked this song the first time I heard it. Later I found out my daughter absolutely hates it too, LOL. Sorry, I do not think it is a better song than WWFM and that is not because I love Adam, I just think the song is kind of stupid and don’t like all the repetition, “her hair, her hair” “her eyes, her eyes”, UGH! I like Grenade a little better but again with the repeating! Bruno’s voice is pleasant but just doesn’t compare to Adam’s, IM0. The only song I really like of Bruno’s so far is Billionaire.

Idol someday might win an Emmy

Actually, Idol has won 6 Emmys so far:
2009: Outstanding Art Direction for VMN Programming
2009: Outstanding Directing (Bruce!) for a VMC Series
2009: Outstanding Lighting Direction (electronic, Multi-Camera) for VMC Programming
2009 Outstanding Technical Direction Camerawork, Video Control For a Series
2008: Outstanding Picture Editing of Clip Packages for Talk, Performance, Award or Reality Competition Programs
2007: Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video for a Miniseries, Movie or Special

They were also given a special Emmy in 2007 for IGB.

Add me to the list of not a big fan of Just the Way you are.

I guess I’ll be the one person to love this song. For me, it’s the “Bridget Jones song”. I always remember charming Mark Darcy saying that he likes her “Just the way she is”. I love the tone of Bruno’s voice. Plus, I’m all about the melodies and that song has a nice one. Dude has been kicking around writing hit songs for years. He probably has a lot of the behind-the-scenes fans.

Just an example, he has writing credits on two of the Record of the Year nominees (“F*** You” and “Nothin’ On You”) and he is nominated as Producer of the year. He’s everywhere.

I don’t think Glee has much of a chance of winning. I just can’t see them getting the votes. I can definitely see them making an appearance though. They award shows seem to love those guys. Looking at the year end stats, Train got a lot of traction this year. I wonder if it might be their year.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that JTWYA is an upbeat, catchy tune, but nothing really special. I was surprised that it’s sold over 3 million downloads.

No question that Bruno is amazingly talented. Seems like a nice guy too. I just saw an video of him as a child, dressed as Elvis and singing “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” on Ellen. He was just adorable!

I don’t know if Bruno is addict or not. All I am saying if he has a problem he needs to fix it. There are a lot of examples of singers ruining their voices and careers, not counting putting their lives at risk, by using drugs. Whitney Houston had one of the most beautiful and powerful voices I’ve ever heard and she competely destroyed it with drugs.

  • car

I agree Fuzzy, about the 3mil. sales. A ton of radio play is really the key to get those numbers. Does anyone know how many Oriante(sp) sold for According to you. Seems like I remember her getting more radio play than the song warrented but don’t know how much it paid off.

  • Kirsten

I really like “Just the Way You Are” It’s sweet and Kirsten, it reminds me of Mark Darcy too, lol.t

    Hah! I’m not alone.

When I saw the video, I was quite disappointed that he didn’t have a Bridget type woman as his love interest. Of course you love that model just the way she is, Bruno, she’s flawless. Pardon me for telling you what your song is about, but it’s about how much you love a woman that she’s perfect in your eyes. It’s not about how much you love a drop-dead perfect woman that you rip apart her favourite cassette tape she’s been listening to for the last 15 years on her antique collector’s Sony Walkman.

I like Grenade a little better but again with the repeating!

Grenade always throws me off because I heard that song just after learning that “Grenade” is a rude, slang word for a woman (apparently, a group of guys meets a group of hot gals, but one of the gals is undesirable. One of the “bros” throws himself on the “Grenade” to save the rest of the group). So, of course, she’s not willing to take a bullet for you, you dumb a$$. Show her some respect.

LOL. Dude is so going to win BNA next year.

Dear Taylor….at some point she is going to be the pariah of the industry as she goes through celebrities like most girls go through hair spray. Somebody needs to clue her in that high profile hook-ups that are staged for publicity and marketing aren’t always beneficial in the long run.

Don’t forget about writing a song about every break-up she ever had and I’m sure we’ll have one on her next album about her break-up with Jake. I don’t think many men would enjoy having a break-up song about them.

  • car

I thought you could not win BNA if you win a Grammy on a previous year?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Can you be nominated BNA if you have been nominated for a Grammy before? Or is it as long as you haven’t won a Grammy?

  • Kirsten

I thought you could not win BNA if you win a Grammy on a previous year?

It used to be you couldn’t be nominated for BNA if you’d be nominated before, but the Gaga rule changed that.

Here is the guidelines: For a new artist who releases, during the Eligibility Year, the first recording which establishes the public identity of that artist.

He wasn’t eligible this year because his album didn’t come out before the deadline.

But, if he wins one, he can’t be nominated for BNA (unless they change the rules again).

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yes, broad exposure through radioplay is the key, but if listeners didn’t like the song, it wouldn’t have sold that much. I don’t follow Orianthe, but I recall that people were saying that she was getting a lot of radioplay, but that her single sales didn’t seem to benefit from that much.

  • smeggingnuts

He wasn’t eligible this year because his album didn’t come out before the deadline.

so even if he wins a Grammy for the other things he is nominated for this year he can still win a BNA Grammy next year?

so even if he wins a Grammy for the other things he is nominated for this year he can still win a BNA Grammy next year?

No, he can’t win (although, maybe if he wins as Producer since he is part of a group) if he wants a BNA nomination next year (I’d just take the win this year, though).

Drake is nominated for BNA this year despite two previous Grammy nominations thanks to the new Gaga rule (he did not win before).

Not that it really matters or anything, but being on a lot of sites regarding vocal technique/training etc, from people who seems to know a thing or two regarding empowering your voice, I heard that Whitney voice was wrecked mainly due to vocal abuse/lack of proper vocal training(ie. pushing voice too hard, damaging vocal cords etc) much more so than the drugs. Same as some other power singers such as Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey voices diminishing over the years as well…

Congrats to Adam. I am not a fan of Just The Way You Are. I am so sick of that song. Buble does nothing for me. His voice is so monotone. Michael Jackson has had his turn, many times over.

In terms of competition for the best vocal, hands down, Adam wins. If the voters actually recognize the talent, not who sold more singles.

Of the whole group nominated, the only other performer I care for or who have seen perform, is John Mayer. But, let’s face it, he’s a guitar god, not a singer.

There are videos on YouTube of Buble dueting with Leon Jackson, who won X-Factor three years ago. Jackson sings circles around him, IMO.

Am I the only person who remembers Buble kind of getting his start on American Idol? It was one of the times Paul Anka was mentoring (or on the show singing…surely somebody remembers that Paul Anka did an Idol year-in-review song for the finale two years in a row. He had to find something to rhyme with Fantasia).

Anyway, with very little connection to the program, they suddenly rolled footage about Buble who was Anka’s and David Foster’s pet project at the time. They were trying to break him into the biz and I remember thinking “Good luck with that. Nobody wants a new dude that covers old standards. We have all the Frank Sinatra CDs we need already”. Shows why I’m not in A&R.

So, I always kind of associate The Bub with AI. And hey, he’s male and won a Grammy. All hope is not lost.

Not really, at least sales wise. Before idol, his second album already sold more than 3 million in US and over 5 million worldwide, but he was mostly flying under the radar. Actually his idol perf was almost a disaster. I think that his concert video Caught in the Act got widely shown on PBS was a huge boost for his career. No. You are thinking about when he performed on Idol when Tony was sick (BTW Buble openly admits he was terrible that night). That was Season 7, wasn’t it?

I’m talking about way back in Season 2 when Paul Anka was on the show and got Idol to feature Buble whom he and David Foster were trying to break (I just looked it up. That old grump DF made Buble raise 500k on his own to pay for production costs). That was 2003 about the time his first album was released and before he made it big.

  • sp34567

The grammys, supposedly, isn’t about the sales but about the “quality” of the song or performance. This is why people feel the grammy has much more meaning than many other awards. Also, winners are chosen by voting exclusively within the industry…no fan voting for this award.

Oh, no. It’s about sales, too. Why do you think Lady Antebellum got an Album of the Year nomination when it should’ve been Miranda Lambert in that spot? It’s because they sold more than she did. Some people so still think the Grammys have “meaning”, but most people think they’re a joke. Especially when they just give them to anybody these days.

Maybe the voters will remember that Buble has already won and decide they should spread the glory around.

It doesn’t matter about who’s already won. Beyonce’s got what? A hundred Grammys and they keep nominating that chick and keep giving her wins.

And poor Buble no one seems to think he has a chance in hell of winning lol

I do. “Haven’t Met You Yet” was huge. Plus, there were talks of his album, Crazy Love, being nominated for Album of the Year. Too bad that didn’t happen. They just had to put in Katy Perry instead.

Really? I haven’t heard anything about the performers. Where did you hear about it? Those three would be the usual suspects even though they just did the nomination special.

  • AllenTX

LOL I don’t even know that. obviously most of idol viewers didn’t notice him either, beccause it didn’t do anything for his debut album here in US. Actually he got his first break because some guy in the label had faith in him and pushed him hard overseas, and he broke Australia and UK before US. otherwise he would have got dropped after one album.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Plus, there were talks of his album, Crazy Love, being nominated for Album of the Year.

That’s great for Michael. He’s really done very well.

  • JazzRocks

Of course I’m hoping Adam wins for Best Male Vocal but Buble is a huge success and a wonderful singer/performer. He would be my #2 if they are actually judging on vocals. His appearance on Idol S7 was pretty much a disaster – I was surprised & not in a good way. Maybe he was unprepared if he filled in for TB at the last moment. IDK. I’ve seen other performances and that just wasn’t typical. And apparently his concerts are fantastic. Great rapport with the audience.

But for me it’s AL all the way!

  • smeggingnuts

haha I never ment to imply that Buble shouldn’t be nominated *cough* MJ *cough* I was just refering to the odds given to him. Buble had the worst odds of winning out of all them.
