Five long song clips from Adam Lambert’s upcoming debut album, For Your Entertainment have leaked on the internets– “Music Again”, “If I Had You”, “Pick U Up”, “Sleepwalker” and “Whataya Want From Me”.

“Music Again”, the Justin Hawkins tune, is my favorite. It’s like a cross between Sweet and Rick Springfield…Not a bad thing!

The Pink tune, “Whataya Want From Me” and Ryan Tedders’s   “Sleepwalker” are potential singles (“Whataya Want From Me” has hit has hit written all over it).   “Pick U Up” is undoubtedly a Rivers Cuomo song and “If I Had You” is a potential club hit.

I’m really loving Sleepwalker. Pick U Up and If I Had You are really good too, and I was very meh on them before.

I already liked Whatya Want From Me, and my opinion hasn’t really changed. It’s not my absolute favorite, but it’s solid.

I’m now less sure of Music Again. I want to hear more, but I love the guitar.

  • mmb

Yes MJ thats it! Sweet and Rick Springfield…I LOVE music again…..but then I like ALL of the album clips I’ve heard (which is kinda strange bc I usually only like a few songs on any given album)..

  • saga

Music again is a really crazy track… not sure what to think about it! Not sure I like that falsetto thing.

  • mayang

IM LOVING EVERYTHING AND EVERY SONG!!! ADAM’S SURPRISE IS NOT YET OVER…is it possible to love all the songs even if i just heard snippets? ive learned to appreciate music again because of adam… i really think he is an angel… with angel voice.. with ahgelic face.. now, i really love if i had you and pick u up more. nice adam. if i had you is very much adam.

  • saga

Whadya Want From Me is annoyingly sticky! I could so see Kelly singing this song and making it a big hit (not saying Adam can’t). It would have been better than Life Would Suck Without You.

  • http://twitter.com/glamtwinkle twinkle

omg, the ones i thought were the “weakest” are blowing my mind. what’s up is down, what’s down is up… i cant see straight…. i think im sleepwalking!

i loved the snippet of sleepwalker but this longer clip is rocking my world! i think it would be a great choice as the second single. a nice contrast to FYE – it’s more rock, mid-tempo, angsty as hell. I LOVE IT.

  • blmetsfan

Music Again sounds horrendous. The others sound pretty good…very Blake Lewis-ish.

  • Truthiness

I’m now less sure of Music Again. I want to hear more, but I love the guitar.

Me too, Music Again is the only one I like less. I like everything else more. Pick U Up is just so much more Weezer like and I like it more each time I hear it.

Sleepwalker is like goosebumpy levels of pretty for me.

I like What You Want From Me now, actually like it and I want to hear the rest of it.

If I Had You has some really good beats in it, and before it was being overwhelmed by the eurodisco, it still has some of that, but the rest of it is really good and I think the eurodisco crap is mitigated and the lyrics sound like fun!

It may be the length of these clips and the higher quality, and my Skull Candy headphones, but I can really hear Adam’s voice a lot more now in these songs. Which is a good thing for me.

  • sr4mjc

I think Music Again might be my favorite, but I love the Darkness. And I love Rick Springfield too.

  • Rub

Hawkin’s guitar playing is sloppy in this short clip. Adam should’ve opted for Brian May for the solo. I guess this song would be a live thing, because I don’t see any radio format for this track. Maybe classic rock stations.

  • mayang

sleepwalker is amaxing having orianthi to play the guitar!!! if im not mistaken!! yay. #isitnov23yet?….

  • star

Certain parts of these kept taking me by surprise (in a good way!), like the guitar on “Sleepwalker” and basically every part of “Pick U Up” lol. Those two are my favorites I think, with “Whataya Want From Me” being right up there too. I can’t wait to hear the songs in their normal, non-chopped up form. :D

  • mouse

A former lurker here feeling compelled to add my 2 cents. I agree with mgk about the songs including Music Again. And do LOVE the guitar. I really need to hear the entire song before making a final decision.

  • Squirrely

I really loved all of them except Pick Me Up. I like it but I need to hear the whole thing.

Sleepwalker and If I Had You were my favorites of the clips.

  • universal

Whadya Want From Me is annoyingly sticky!

Yes! It wasn’t my favorite when I heard the 30 sec snippets, and it still isn’t even though I like it a lot, but it really sticks in your head!

  • gangreen29

I think “music again” and “whataya want from me” are winners. I like them both, and I think they balance a tongue in check retro vibe and modern taste well. “If I had you” does not, it is too campy. “Sleepwalker” sounds like every Tedder song, but I don’t think Adam can carry it off like Kelly, Leona, or Jordin. The guitar at the end is really out of place too. “Pick U Up” is just dreadful. I tried to listen to it twice, but could not get through it again. It is way too whiny and dour.

  • leome

Music Again souns like Mika to me. I like the guitar, but the rest is pretty meh to me. Sounds a bit dated, actually.
If I Had You and Pick U Up still sound like something that would be part of Eurovision (this is not a positive comment btw)
Sleepwalker is probably my favorite of the five. It does have that Ryan sound to it. It sounds cool.
I like Whataya Want From Me now with the longer clip.

Where were this posted? The ones I was more interested didn’t make it.

  • becausehelives

Funny I like some better than i did before esp if i had u. so i hope the ones i liked b/4 turn out more epic for me and not the other way round.

  • Squirrely

I love how everyone have different favorites – something for everyone.

  • dietcoke

    Sleepwalker is da bomb!!!!!!

  • saga

I would put Pick U Up, Sleepwalker and What ya want from me as favs. I cant get over the chorus If I Had You, too much europop, though the verse is cool.

  • IdolThoughts

Sleepwalker reminds me of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry Me a River”. It’s gorgeous and I think fans will eat it up. Yay. Love these clips. I like Music Again A LOT.

  • Organic

Really enjoying all of these. If I Had You and Whataya Want From Me are two that I’m liking more and more.

  • Studio57

I really really think they leaked these so people could see that you can’t judge by 30 second clips. That’s my theory and I am sticking to it. These ( with the exception of Sleepwalker, which I loved from the beginning) were the ones I liked the least.

Music Again I was iffy about from the beginning, but I keep hearing things that make me want to hear more- like they were just about to go somewhere great and stopped on purpose. I can now hear the Mika influence that Lyndsey is talking about. Plus this is the one that EVERYONE seems to love that heard the whole thing.

    Sleepwalker wow. wow. wow.

And Pick U Up needs to be expanded and turned into a rock opera! I can so see this!

If I Had You- I NEVER thought in a million years I would love that song, but I already do.

WWFM- Still not feeling it, but it’s also the one that kind of sticks in my head- weird!

  • YankeeFan08

I can’t pick a favorite. I love them all. I wish there was a longer version of Soaked.

  • kingmikol

These snippets have the endings at the front, the middle at the end and the end at the middle or start of the songs. So they will still sound alot different on the actual album :) Not all of the songs are exactly like this, but they are mixed around.

  • mitchellvii

Sleepwalker is the most modern sounding song and my fav of these. Personally HATE Music Again. Just sounds too old fashioned to me. YMMV.

Of these, I think Sleepwalker has greatest HIT potential because it is very modern and yet emotional. Great lyrics.

  • spinastory

I am done picking fav’s.. Lets just say this is going to be one of my favorite albums… I love..love..love all the flavors!

  • Studio57

Sleepwalker reminds me of Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’ . It’s gorgeous and I think fans will eat it up. Yay. Love these clips. I like Music Again A LOT.

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who could hear the Timbaland influence! Like I said in the last thread- this is where Tedder shines with that heavy drum beat and the backing choruses- that’s Timbaland’s influence, who kind of took Tedder under his wing in the beginning. Tedder definitely redeemed himself in my eyes.

  • Truthiness

Whadya Want From Me is annoyingly sticky

It was one my least favourites from the shorter clips and yet later it and the Strut clips were the ones that stayed the most with me. And the longer version makes me like it musically more. Less generic for me, and I can hear Adam’s voice more. The “stickiness,” of the song isn’t helped by the clips repeating parts of the song over, and then having different parts of it later. Which is not to say I don’t like it, I do. It has a more emotional sound for it now as well. Which is good, because before, a part of my not feeling it, yo, I wasn’t really feeling that as part of it. Now I feel some actual emotional content in it, beyond stick in my brain repeating itself, kind of vibe..

  • rblaha1234

Don’t worry about people not buying Adam’s C D. I downloaded these longer song clips, but I have 2 c d s on order and 2 Deluxe editions, and I purchased FYE 3 times, two FYE I purchased one was free. I cannot wait for his Album to drop. God these songs are fantastic.

  • mzbet

I like “Music Again”. What’s with the wierd places in 2 or 3 where it seems to stop? Is that just these clips or actually part of the song? If it’s actually meant to do that, I don’t get it, especially if you’re dancing.

  • WeeklySpins

I love “Music Again” and “Sleepwalker”! The others are just kind of so-so to me. Why didn’t they make “Music Again” the single!? It is fantastic.

  • k0ka

they all sound a bit dated. I like ‘Music Again’ too. Actually, I was expected a record full of rock songs from Lambert.

  • dhunken

I want to see the video already for Sleepwalker….I bet you it would be frigging amazing.

  • Sherena

You could say the same about a lot of Gaga’s songs though. The “dated” thing. Dated might be in right now. To a certain extent.

  • St.Lucia

    I like “Music Again” less.

“Sleepwalker” sounds like all the other Ryan Tedder songs. It’s not bad by any means, but it loses some credbility for me because of the fact that it already sounds like so much else.

And overall, the longer clips didn’t blow me away.

I listened to “Pick U Up” three times and every time I must have had a case of ADHD because as soon as it was over I couldn’t tell you a single lyric or how the song goes. Nothing grabs me about “Pick U Up”

    I’m feeling a little underwhelmed all of a sudden. I wish I wasn’t, but I am.

  • saga

Hmm, I would release strut as 2nd single and sleepwalker as 3rd.

  • Studio57

I like ‘Music Again’ . What’s with the wierd places in 2 or 3 where it seems to stop? Is that just these clips or actually part of the song? If it’s actually meant to do that, I don’t get it, especially if you’re dancing

They did that on purpose so you don’t copy the tracks- the three parts are also out of order on purpose. These were put out by a marketing firm- the people that were members there got to rate the songs.

  • mouse

Have changed my mind about Music Again after listening through my iPod earbuds (better sound than the computer speakers.) I like it much more but still want to hear it in full (especially without the stops and starts.)

  • gangreen29

You could say the same about a lot of Gaga’s songs though. The ‘dated’ thing. Dated might be in right now. Maybe.

Lady Gaga definitely has influences from the 70s and 80s, but everything she does sounds updated and fresh. She very intelligently twists music from the past with a modern sensibility. While some of Adam’s stuff is very catchy, it is certainly no where near the quality of Lady Gaga.

  • melirose89

YES Sleepwalker is a TOTAL Timberlake/Timbaland kind of song!!! i thought i was the only one who thought so!!! and with the guitar in the middle its sooo something Michael Jackson would’ve done! Sleepwalker is blowing my mind! Should be the second single! It was one of my favorites since the beginning!!

Whataya Want from Me, Pick You Up and If I Had You, are the 3 weakest songs from the 30 second clips and now im LOVING them!!

and Music Again is sooo Adam!! Awesome!!!

Im so excited! this album is exceeding my already high expectations!

You can have your own copies of the longer previews from here — I really really like Music Again now – the Mika/Queen sound is very strong, and I happen to like them.

    Here’s what I posted on another thread… which I just found… and it’s been around :)

Do ya’ll know if the ‘pre thang’ has the same two ‘bonus tracks’ ’ ¦

    Itunes and Adam’s website?

I really hope he sings his heart out like he does LIVE! that’s what makes him so special.. I hope he never loses that.. So far his live singing crushes his studio voice.. both are great’ ¦ but I hope we don’t lose the ‘Upright Adam’ and the ROF Adam’ ¦ or even the ‘Is anybody listening’ ’ ¦ or the Jewish thang he did’ ¦ that voice is unreal’ ¦

Crazy isn’t it? Most singers sound like crap live.. and need the studio.. Adams so damn good’ ¦GREAT that he’s better live’ ¦ wow!

My kids still sing ROF all the time.. hilarious.. what a voice!

  • Squirrely

I doubt Music Again will be a single but I can’t wait to hear it sung live.

I like Lady Gaga but I find sometimes there is way more performance than music she can make her voice sound too dead but maybe thats just me.. so I like the way Adam is mixing it.

  • soccerboi

Ok so totally Adam obsessed here so this is totally biased but I really think all of the songs are really great. I am just so excited for his future success.

Here is my ranking of these five, it doesnt really matter because I am splitting hairs…
    1- Whatya want from me
    2-If I had you
    3-Music Again
    4-SleepWalker
    5-Pick you up

After listening to these songs I imagine that there was a lot of discussion on which one to release first. I do really like For your entertainment but I wonder if it is indeed better than any of these…

  • karenw

There a bit in the lyrics of Pick U Up where the end of the line is “sucker” and I almost held my breath to see what he was going to rhyme with it but he says “shudder”… then “brother” .. then “lover” …lol

  • rockvixen

Well I am going to compare because Kris and Adam were both on American Idol and it’s only natural to make comparisons like Cookie vs. Archie. This album of Adam’s sounds more fresh and exciting than Kris’s album.

As for sounding dated I think that was Adam’s intention hence the 70′s 80′s glam rock infusion. I happen to love it and it sounds current enough to me to want to buy it.

Also since these longer versions of the songs were released does that mean the marketers think these songs will be hits?

I really want to hear a longer version of Fever!

  • aa618892

These snippets are better than on Youtube. Love, Love, Love Sleepwalker. Music Again and Pick U Up are my next favs, I can’t even pick which one I like best. Oh I want this album so bad! To me they all sound so fresh and original, not at all the usual generic stuff. Wow!

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

well the exception of Music Again, the rest are my least favorite songs on his album.

  • http://www.f3properties.com Animated

    More teasing from RCA .
The ones I was looking forward to hearing more of, are not here.
Those here were the ones I liked but not really super like.
But after hearing more, why, I am really lovin’ Pick u Up and Sleepwalker.
I liked least Whatya Wanna before , now I think it’s really good.
Is this more teasing, or more mind conditioning from RCA.
But hey I am enjoying these longer snippets , so more please.

LOL Im so excited that I keep forgetting what all the songs sound like…and I really want to wait until I get the album…I dont want to tire myself of these songs ever! Or at least not yet anyways :)

and i also heard the JT moment in Sleepwalker. it’s a beautiful falsetto bit of the song. love it.

  • bridgette12

My favorites are Sleepwalker, Whataya want from me and Music again. Now I need to hear Soaked and Aftermath, because are absolutely the best on the album. I need more leaks!

  • skat-girl@allycatlover

I feel really let down. I thought Adam was bringing in a new era of music? I thought he was suppose to be creating a new genre of music. I know that is way to high of expectations and I rolled my eyes every time I heard that but that was what his fans and even Adam himself said. I feel like I’ve heard these songs all before. I can’t stand music again I think it might replace Katherine’s mcphee’s “open toes” as the worst post idol song ever. The only song I think is decent is sleepwalker and I personally think it sounds like a one republic song.

    Sorry :(

well look at it this way, great music wouldn’t be great music if everyone loved it. There will be some people who love it and some people who despise it. At least it got a strong reaction out of me which is what I think it was aiming for. Adam fans should just hope that it gets more positive strong reactions then mine ;)

  • spinastory

Let me just say the music is fantastic, so kodo’s to those who made this happen.. Adam as the singer “sometimes lryics/his person likes dislikes/possibly arrangement” is the best topping ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Studio57

I doubt Music Again will be a single but I can’t wait to hear it sung live.

From your lips to the Rock Gawd’s ears! I can only imagine how great a guitarist Monte Pittman is- I mean if he was good enough for Madonna…..!

You know what is so damn sweet about this album? No one can possibly accuse him of having all the songs sound alike, lol. He really is a chameleon. So versatile it is INSANE!

  • listen

Yay, longer Adam tracks…. Gotta go listen, will report back later.

Hoping he has a ballad in that short list, (cant recall all the ballady ones by name….)

  • larchcat

Anyone else getting a subtle “Owner of a Lonely Heart (Yes)” vibey/beat around 1:40 in “If I Had you?” Kind of unexpected and cool to put a prog rock groove in a dance song . .eclectic indeed.

  • LeeTravers

One may prefer one song to another, but, in totality, this is an extraordinary debut – and, even going beyond that, an incredible album for any singer to put out. (Do we hold Adam to a higher standard than other performers? I think so.) And, as he said, tying the diversity of the tracks together will be his voice. And, oh!, his voice, his voice, his voice.

  • rockvixen

    @skat-girl *rolls eyes*

  • Truthiness

I feel really let down. I thought Adam was bringing in a new era of music? I thought he was suppose to be creating a new genre of music. I know that is way to high of expectations and I rolled my eyes every time I heard that but that was what his fans and even Adam himself said.

I’m an Adam fan, I hang around lots of other Adam fans, I don’t think most of us thought he would be creating a New Era of Music. I would say that none of us said that, but no fanbase can speak for everyone in it. And even Adam himself references people that are doing what he’s doing, so while he was trying to make something cool an ‘fresh,’ well I don’t think he would say he was making a Whole New Era Of Music with this album. He even says that it’s not too deep all the time, so doesn’t seem like he’s thinking he’s changing the Face Of Music with this album.

So let me as an Adam fan let me state, no this album doesn’t break new ground. I think he is treading some stuff others have done. I like a lot of what I hear for what it is, which is pretty and/or fun music. But nope, not groundbreaking at all.

  • Studio57

larchcat- big YES fan here- didn’t catch it until you pointed it out- but well, yes, lol! I seriously need to find my earphones so I can hear the guitars and drums better. I tremember last time they made a hige difference in quality.

  • lorismile

Adam’s voice sounds great. Love the differences to the songs – like one for every mood.

Sleepwalker was my fav since the 30 sec snippet….I can see this being used in a movie (romantic)….If I had u will def be a bigggggg hit in the club scene….

Adam fans should just hope that it gets more positive strong reactions then mine

That’s not a concern for me…I’m loving it and sounds like others are also….

  • lola

This is the hardest part…picking a favorite when every song has its own merits. But I agree with mj. I loved Music Again even from the snippets. I’m also looking forward to hear Fever and Soaked because these songs also caught my attention.

  • jms

arg!! Order is important!!! I can’t even begin to tell you whether I like these or not. I like what I “think” are the openings to Sleepwalker and If I Had You. But fuck all if I can tell more than that. I really need to hear the song snippets in the correct order to know if I like them. How do I know if I enjoy the way Sleepwalker builds otherwise? How can I tell if a dramatic pause works for me? If a chorus goes on way to long and puts me to sleep or if it’s just right? The shorter snippets are better because at least then all I’m looking for is a general sound and production feel. These just leave me feeling bewildered and confused.

The ones I was looking forward to hearing more of, are not here.

    Mine either.

  • St.Lucia

I feel really let down. I thought Adam was bringing in a new era of music? I thought he was suppose to be creating a new genre of music. I know that is way to high of expectations and I rolled my eyes every time I heard that but that was what his fans and even Adam himself said.

I’m let down as well, but not because I think Adam was breaking into a new “era” of music, I never expected that. This is what I expected, but I expected it to sound “fresh” and “current” and I’m not feeling that. It feels dated to me. And I agree with “Sleepwalker” it’s BEEN DONE. It’s good, but not earth shattering because it already sounds like every other freaking Ryan Tedder song.

I have no respect for Ryan Tedder musically. He can’t do anything but the same song for “now” artists. But the songs work, so maybe he’s sticking by the formula if it isn’t broke don’t fix it. I didn’t “dislike” sleepwalker, but I did roll my eyes and say a few curses to Ryan Tedder.

I’m not going to give up all hope because I love Adam, and even from the initial 30 second snippets these were all my LEAST favorite songs for me.

    So I’m still extremely hopeful.

I did like “Music Again” but when I heard the verses I just kinda went “Oh dear no!” But I might like it as a whole when I get to hear it.

  • Maddy

You know what is so damn sweet about this album? No one can possibly accuse him of having all the songs sound alike, lol. He really is a chameleon. So versatile it is INSANE!

That’s one thing I love about it too. I love how there is something for every mood. I think Sleepwalker is really great. I like IIHY more now, I didn’t think I would like it much but it is catchy and has a good beat. I’m really happy with whole album.

  • Studio57

I cannot wait until Christina Aguleras album comes out. because it’s gonna be full of this stuff too. She is working with Goldfrapp- one of Adam’s favorite bands, and between Gaga, Adam, and Christina I think- I hope- that people are gonna fianlly start “getting” this type of music.

But nope, not groundbreaking at all.

Gotta disagree there. Adam is doing on one album what other artists usually do on a double album or seperate albums altogether- mixing genres. Think of when Rod Stewart and Christina did their album of standards or Foo Fighters did a double album of acoustic vs. electric, or when Outkast seperated their lead vocalists on a double album. This is like one of those NOW music compilation CD’s….with one singer, lol.

  • karenw

I like all of the 2 min samples (some more than others) .. but they haven’t included the one’s I really wanted to hear …lol

I wish they’d let us have a longer listen to one of the ballads as the samples were all of the more dancy upeat tracks

  • dsp

“so i got my boots on with the right amt of leather…putting eyeliner on” If I had U sounds sooooo Adammmmmm Loving it

Adam’s tour is going to be “shocking … in a good way, shocking and sleazy and over the top” and we’re going to love it. He’s going to blow audiences away with this material. That’s where he’s going to really shine. Can’t wait.

  • FifthHouseSun

Have changed my mind about Music Again after listening through my iPod earbuds (better sound than the computer speakers.)

Headphones are a revelation. The layers of fuzz open to display some seriously good musicians at work. Guitar work, drums, basslines all impressive. These are densely packed nook and cranny arrangements. Something new shows itself each listen. And all those many voices are all Adam.

Adam has said he wants this album to be entertainment. Fun. So that’s where I’m going with it. Fun. Just plain bouncing around and having a good time. And enjoying the heavyweight line-up of pro’s apparently also having a very good time.

Since the longer clips sound so different from the snippets, and there are so many layers to each song, will have to hear the entire album, several times before deciding anything. Other than I’m having a great time listening, playing with the iTunes equalizer – loving the Rock setting boom and the vocal boost puts those pipes shining front center – and enjoying the entertainment.

ETA: Adam said What Do You Want From Me is also about his relationship with fans.

  • Chicagolaw

OMG, I love Music Again, Sleepwalker, and Pick U Up! And, yes, I totally hear the Rivers Cuomo vibe now—love it. Seriously, I don’t know when I have been this excited for an album.

  • Studio57

DSP- I noticed that- they wrote that song ABOUT Adam- how cool is that?
And karenw- I also wanted to hear all the other ones more, but I kinda know I already love them- these were the ones I was unsure about( except Sleepwalker) so I am glad I got a chance to change my mind about them.

I cannot wait until Christina Aguleras album comes out. because it’s gonna be full of this stuff too. She is working with Goldfrapp- one of Adam’s favorite bands, and between Gaga, Adam, and Christina I think- I hope- that people are gonna fianlly start ‘getting’ this type of music.

she’s working with goldfrapp, major lazer, m.i.a., santigold, ladytron, and le tigre. adam’s working with max martin, ryan tedder, greg wells, and rob cavallo. there’s gonna be a clear difference in sound and style. the latter is littered with the requisite mainstream producers hired for hits. maybe with adam’s second album he’ll be permitted to take more risks, but FYE is gonna be way more poppy i think.

nonetheless, i really like this. music again doesn’t sound as great as the 30 sec. clip though. i like sleepwalker and if i had you alot. this is shaping up to be a great album. congrats adam!

  • Squirrely

OK album comes out in less then two weeks… time to start weaning myself out of the fandom, and enjoy Adam from afar like the rest of the world. Boy this going to be hard.

Love the longer snippets can’t wait for more. G’night people.

-It’s ok to feel this way because this was how I felt when I heard Kris album too. It’s really a matter of taste.

dido on the taste comment. I really don’t know if it’s gonna be big selling and a critics darling but I really hope it is. I don’t like it but I do wish him success. I will check out his sophomore album and I hope it’s more my taste cause I enjoy Adams vocals most times. anyway this is just my own personal taste. I didn’t like MJ’s thriller album but for some bizarre reason my negative opinion didn’t make the album flop :)

who knows maybe it will reach number 1 on billboard 200 and win album of the year.

  • Jupi

Argh, why don’t they have a longer snippet of Soaked? It’s the only song I really wanted to hear

  • karenw

Karen- did u listen to sleepwalker??

yep, but I don’t class that as a ballad . it’s slower in temp but it’s kind of more anthemy and rocky still with a kind of “stomp” for a beat … the ballad’s I’m waiting to hear more of are the likes of Soaked, Broken Open and A Loades Smile

  • steve

I’m an Adam stan and if this gets record of the year I’ll be sad for the state of music. And number one? Yikes! Dare to dream. At this point if he gets in the top 40 I’m going to be happy, though happier with a top 20 album. But Top 40 and I’ll be pleased and delighted at this point.

But yeah sure, I wish the best for all of Kradison and even, for the Danny fans, for Danny.

  • listen

    On first listen:

I really love “Music Again” sounds like Queen to me, and I love the falsetto parts.
Also love “Sleepwalker” and “What Do You Want From Me”

I realy like “Pick You Up”

    >> “If I Had You,” well I loved parts of it, but it seemed to be broken up in a such an odd way, that it is hard to really tell if I like or love it.

That stopping and starting thing is odd….

Will have to listen to all these again and my opinions are subject to change without notice. ;-)

  • sr4mjc

I hear the vocals loud and clear. Live Adam and recorded Adam are different, as we heard in the studio versions of his Idol performances.

I expect live FYE to be completely different as well. Can’t wait until 11/23!

  • tiger92

.I remember when lady gaggag was on idol most posts hated her that nite. This is far worst then that.

You are probably right. Lady Gaga sure is struggling right now. Bless her heart-not a hit song in sight. I hope she can figure out SOME WAY to get her music out there and make a few sales. I’ve got my fingers crossed for her…and Adam.

Steve- if you have been following the thread at all- these songs are NOT the best ones on the album for showcasing his vocals. Soaked is unbelievable, and so is Loaded Smile and Broken Open- those songs will please the fans of THE VOICE. I have absolutely no doubt about that. I happen to be in the camp that loves mosts sides of Adam ( not a fan of Upright Cabaret, NoBo, and a couple of others), but I also know he is not everyone’s cuppa.

  • dcglam

The bottom line is…….. I LOVE Adam’s voice. This is the main reason I loved ALL of his performances on Idol. I am continuing to love ALL of his album snippets, mostly because of his massive vocals. I’m sorry that I am not able to pick a favorite or the one that I least favor. To me, each song is a “Sure Fire Winner” because it brings me Adam and those incredible vocals!

  • rockvixen

    @steve

There are a lot of AI watchers who are fans of Lady Gaga including me and who will love this album.

In regards to showcasing Adam’s vocals it does very well with Broken Open, Sleepwalker etc. Adam was not going for a TfM or all rock n roll album and his fans should know that. I knew what to expect from day 1 with Adam unfortunately those with blinders on or needing hearing aids wanted all TfM style music.

  • snood199

Well, I don’t hate Music Again anymore. Still really like If I Had You. I also like Pick U Up even though it has the awful chatspeak U in it.

LOVED Sleepwalker (or Streetwalker, if you are Jim Cantiello, lol)–so beautiful!!! Aimee did NOT disappoint!!!
LOVE If I Had U–cannot get it out of my head, SO CATCHY, such a great dance beat. I wish this had been the first single, honestly.
LIKE Pick U Up–the chorus works best for me, but it doesn’t really stand out for me as much as I thought it might
LIKE Whatya Want from me–very solid mid-tempo song, nice vocals, better than I thought
DO NOT LIKE Music Again (I know, I know, just hate the falsetto in the middle, I know, everyone loves it, oh, well, whatevers)

So, I am going to read the rest of the thread, but that’s what I thought when I first heard these (and continued to).

As advertised, this album will have something for everyone. I cannot WAIT to hear Broken Up and Soaked. There will songs I will like more than others, but THIS SUCKA IS GONNA BE A KEEPA. I do not know how I can hold on until 11.23!!!

    *continuing to flail and squee*

hmmm interesting Robbie Williams album just passed Adam’s in Pop music Canada
Robbie is #2 and Adam is now #3

I imagine the album will start to settle in as the days progress. Then we will see who outside the Idol bubble is buying.

  • lorismile

    OMG….great news on the video!!!!!!!!!

  • Teri63

OMG! “Whataya Want From Me” wasn’t originally my fav, but then I was one of those people who couldn’t get the chorus out of my head hours after listening (and re-listening and re-listening) to the snippets. After hearing the extended versions? I GO ON RECORD AS ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT!!!! “Music Again” is still my absolute favorite (from among the extended versions we’ve heard) for its artistic flair, but as far as being a radio hit, I think “Whataya Want From Me” has real promise.

As for those who are disappointed Adam didn’t seem to reinvent the wheel with this album, I kind of find myself chuckling. It kind of reminds me of how my kids keep telling me how “great” their beat-box (or whatever you call it) music is, and then when I listen, I hear parts of songs I jammed to in college that have been lifted verbatim and set to electronic beats. I’m really kind of convinced that, unless a new instrument is invented, it’s probably ALL been done before. What I love about Adam is that he’s a young guy who appreciates the music of yesteryear and wants to make it contemporary enough to live again. No, he’s not the first to do this, but he is among the most talented I’ve heard!

  • lorismile

I think there will be lots of opportunity to showcase the voice on this CD. And, I am loving his vocals in these tracks which aren’t ballads. Also, there is some insane guitar stuff going on.

Oh really? Where’d you get your crystal ball? While you are predicting the future, can you please have a look -say 3 years from now–and tell me how many awards Adam has sitting on his mantle of the nice house he has been able to afford?? Wow, the video, just wow.

So, I continue to say that there is just about something for everyone on here, except those who don’t like Adam, in which case I say, that’s cool, enjoy someone else.

So far, FYE and Music Again are not wow’ing me, but I like them (well, MA just isn’t wow’ing me, but it’s too hard to know until I hear the entire album).

But there are so many songs that just *hit* me, where you get Adam’s voice and a fun beat or poignant lyrics or just a strong piece of music. These are not throw-away songs, and I hope ppl don’t listen and go, oh, just ANOTHER Idol album.

NO. I am so happy for Adam. I can’t wait to see him perform these tunes on TV and then in concert.

  • SarahP

weird i really like Music Again. but i’ve always liked Mika’s music so no surprises. it kinda reminds me of Grace Kelly, the parts where he goes into the falsetto. really cool!

and sleepwalker is still my favourite. and i like whatdya want from me

cant wait for the whole songs…

  • maggie mae

Adam has done an awesome job! Everything about his voice on idol and his tour has been surpassed with this albumn with just the 5 longer song clips I just heard. I liked them all. His amazing voice is
showcased in all of its wonderful, incredible glory!
I have pretty much heard more singers than I care to admit and so many in concerts. I have been very fortunate through the years to have been able to enjoy so many. Adam is someone that we are going to hear about for a long, long time. His live performances will only add to his fame, as he is the ultimate performer on stage! If anyone here disagrees with this, you are on the wrong site! He is just so good, some people just cannot let themselves believe this voice. I cannot
wait for the 23rd and all his upcoming appearances. Adam, if you are reading these blogs, I want you to know you are just an awesome
artist first, above all……and, entertainer with unlimited talent!

  • anarocks

Recycled pop and not very good pop at that. HE said he was going to change the face of music and be prepared for a sonic lobotomy. This is what he produces?? Yuck! What a braggart. Total bubblegum crap wrapped in a tacky album cover. Two thumbs down.

I don’t recall Adam every saying he was going to change the face of anything, let alone music. He’s acknowledged repeatedly that artists like Katy Perry and Gaga are doing exactly what he wants to do, but they are females.

I’ll take my bubblegum and love that it’s wrapped in a pretty colorful tacky album cover.

  • sealily1c

Do you really think a male lady gaggag is going to work

I don’t see why not. There hasn’t been a male pop star (save for JT who is rappish, and other rappers, r&b types, or singer-songwriter types) for ages so the time might be perfect.

As for those songs, they were covers that appealed to the AI audience.

This is a different game now–that bubble has burst– and general music lovers may be more open to the what appears to be a quality effort.

  • lorismile

I tend to think his most talked about song on Idol was ROF. I also think TOMT was talked about so much because it followed ROF.

Do you know what the sales were for all the songs? I haven’t seen them, although, I agree MW was probably his best seller.

  • TwigLA

I like ‘Sleepwalker’ Wish I could remember what that guitar riff reminds me of … very old rock song. I also like ‘Whatta Ya Want From Me’ The lyrics are very pretty.

I guess I’m in the minority. I don’t like Music Again. It sounds like he’s trying too hard to sound like Queen. I have everything Queen ever did and I can only take it in short spurts.

The others don’t really strike me. Maybe if I hear the full versions a few times. The drop offs in the middle are annoying. I guess they did that so you hear more parts of the songs though.

I’m sure he’ll do well with it.

  • kneipho

    Hi steve. :)

I’m off to listen and catch up on the thread, be back in a bit.

  • Chicagolaw

I think Adam has done a pretty good job of trying to have something for everyone on this album. There will be ballads to showcase the voice; and, really, he was never going to put out an album like the one Susan Boyle is releasing (which, by the way, was being sold on QVC last night), and I hope people weren’t expecting that.

Edited because if Adam ever said he was going to change the face of music I certainly missed it

Anyway, I was someone who was admittedly a little nervous about whether I was going to actually like the album (Adam has that love for the electropop/dance stuff that I can be iffy about) but I love this—all of it, which I never expected.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

I love them – and now Whatddya Want From Me is looping in my head! Damn thing. I didn’t really love the 30 second snippet but the song has a hook, alright.

I just want the album EVEN more now – if that is even possible.

To each his/her own. This is definitely MY taste! Yum.

  • adamisthemanfan

I feel really let down. I thought Adam was bringing in a new era of music? I thought he was suppose to be creating a new genre of music. I know that is way to high of expectations and I rolled my eyes every time I heard that but that was what his fans and even Adam himself said.

I agree with Truthiness on this one. I dont think Adam’s intention is to solely create a new era of music but rather make a name for himself among the current greats while paying homage to the greats of the past. From what I understand from interviews and stuff, he wants ti be the male performer that fits in the the current female pop artists who like to infuse theatricality into their music as well as their live performances. He has also said that the music business is still a business and he knows what is selling now so he has to somehow integrate that into his music without compromising his artistic goal. This is only his debut…he has to establish himself as a mainstream artist first…one step at a time like he says.
Trying to outdo everyone is too much of a risk, even for him…as of now at least ;)
I personally like what Ive heard and I cant get that damn chorus from Music again out of my head…sooo damn catchy…I think that was his goal. To create something that is catchy and fun but still has artistic integrity.
Plus these are still snippets and the audio quality is poor. The album will sound much better so Im still not making any final decisions yet, especially considering that in the past, for me, there have been some songs I didnt like at first and then eventually did.
Im still underwhelmed with Whataya want from me but some ppl really seem to like it and Adam has said there is something on the album for everyone so this makes sense…
I agree that the ballads are all KILLER…cant wait to hear those…Strut is also very, very good, Fever sounds awesome and then there are the bonus tracks no one has heard :) lots of good music. and I am probably forgetting some but oh well even better.
For me Adam is just on a different level than a lot of the buffoons that are out there today and call themselves “artists”
I find myself changing radio stations like a lunatic over and over again cuz I cant find anything I like and that fucking sucks.
The music industry was in dire need of someone like Adam.

I really like the album and wonder how driving will be with it playing. I always have a CD playing in my car. I am hoping for a few slow ones or my driving record may take a hit as it’ll be hard not to bounce all over to some of these. He’s looked so good lately(even tho he is probably a little sad) I can’t wait for his album and all the promotions. As the senior poster here(age wise) , I get great fun and pleasure following the career of this amazingly talented, fearless and beautiful singer/performer. Good times.

Wow, I love Music Again and Sleepwalker.

Surprisingly, Pick U Up and If I Had You have actually caught my interest now. I’m still not entirely sold on them but I like what I heard.

Oops, clicked submit and I couldn’t edit. Obviously I haven’t heard the rest of the album, so sorry about the “This album is meh” quote, can’t say that for sure yet.

If I Had You sounds like Katy Perry, and not in a very good way.
I swore I heard something like Music Again from a few decades ago, this is just more electronic, a little more overproduced and dull (Although those high notes, however produced they sounded, were pretty fantastic, I’ll give him that).
That electronic sound in the beginning of the Pick U Up snippet is damn painful to listen to.
    Sleepwalker is boring.

Next single should be Whataya Want From Me, that’s the ONLY song I care for from this bunch of songs. The rest of the songs sound the same, the same way some people think Kris’s music does (I hope that doesn’t incite a fan war).

But to each his own, I’m just a little disappointed that Adam is supposed to be the breakout star when he’s venturing in such a crappy direction.

I know Adam has always wanted to do electronic music, but that’s such a crappy route, IMO. He can do a million times better if he stuck with a more organic rock type like he did on the show instead of this. Hell, do Ring of Fire type music.

  • chocobosandwich

This music sounds very generic. I can kind of pick out Adam’s voice, but I mostly hear noise and lots of post processing in the mixing room. I couldn’t really tell one song from another, although I’ll have to admit I don’t like a lot of pop in general, unless its some timeless classic or has a very unique thing going for it. But what can Adam really do? He has the voice and personality, but can’t compose his own music or play an instrument. He’s only half of the equation. Writing and producing the song is far harder, and with the pedigree of the collaborators for this album being used to popping out radio-friendly hits on a timetable, I don’t think this album will be the one for Adam to shine.

Anyone who has heard classic rock: Journey, Queen, Aerosmith is familiar with stunning lead vocalists. I like a lot of current music, but I can’t think of any current pop rock male star who has a really stunning voice, good but not awesomely good. Adam fills that void. (Not counting someone like Josh Grobin as that is a totally different genre.)

  • jammasta

Sad that 5 extended snippets from 14 changed your mind that much. Hopefully you will reconsider again when the full versions of all the songs come out and that will change your mind again. :-)

    Yeah, hopefully.

On the bright side, most of these 5 songs were the weak links of those snippets. Whataya Want From Me is worse than I remembered, but still a pretty good one. But still, I remember when I asked if this album would be up for preorder any time soon, but I’m not really caring anymore :( .

Still, I hate these overly electronic types of music with a passion. They’re so bland, obnoxious, and empty. Adam, no matter how amazing a singer he is, won’t change that. I expected something a little more organic from him.

  • suebrody

So my computer is dying. So I’ll just say:

I love Sleepwalker. It has a kind of YES vibe to it, and is very pretty.

Whatya Want From Me is definitely growing on me, esp. if it has to do with his relationship with his fans. Strong vocals.

Pick U Up is good, sort of a mid-temp, Fray-like song, I think. I like it but it doesn’t really stand out for me.

If I Had You continues to be my favorite pop-ish tune. I just find it so catchy and I can’t get it out of my head. ;) I would love to see it released as a single, tho a lot of you don’t like it.

And Music Again is still not doing it for me, but I guess the falsetto in the middle doesn’t bother me as much as it did before, b/c we get to hear more of the song now.

I am beyond excited for this, and sad that some people come here solely to diss Adam and his fans. Adam NEVER EVER said he wanted to re-invent music. Quite the contrary. He wanted to entertain, hence the name of the album/first single, and also make you think at times (with songs like Soaked or Broken Open), dance or just enjoy. I think he will certainly accomplish all of this w/ this album. It it isn’t the great album since sliced bread, so be it. I just hope it finds an audience, so Adam can continue doing what he loves to do–performing. What else can you ask from him?

  • dab1234

You know, going into to this I wasn’t sure I was going to like the album. I am “older” and liked what he did on AI. But my love of his voice left me open to what would come next. Now I can say that he hooked me and reeled me in. The ‘sound’ is great and he sings with both talent and heart. It shows. It also helps that he is absolutely beautiful to look at, does great in interviews and the camera LOVES him. I am going to love this album!!! :)

  • suebrody

Everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinion. I like Adam’s take on people who don’t care for what he’s doing’ ¦..go buy the other guy’s stuff then.

I can understand preferring a certain type of music and wishing that something could be so, but if you’ve followed Adam at all, you’d have known that “organic” was definitely NOT the direction he intended to go–at least not on the majority of his songs on this first CD. From the beginning, he’s made no secret of the fact that he wanted to pay homage to the music of the ’70′s and ’80′s, but with a modern, electronic treatment.

I am loving these snippets more every time I listen. With my earphones on I hear Adam’s voice loud and clear and also all the very interesting production they used on each song. The one I didn’t like so much in the shorter snippet, IIHY, I really like in this longer snippet. Pick U Up is great and I can’t wait to hear it in the right order. Sleepwalker is thud worthy with those sexy vocals. Music Again is dynamite and WDYWFM is very catchy. Wow can’t wait to hear the rest. I haven’t been this excited about music in years.

SO called adam fans.I said from the getgo that adam has to sell his vocal(its sick). This doesn’t do that.If you want to believe it does then great.I don’t.

I think you are right, steve, in this, at least to some degree. However, I also believe, what is expected from him to sell said vocals means different things to different people.

I like Kris Allen, and after listening to album, I realized he delivered exactly what I expected. A very well put together album peppered liberally with his particular sound. Softer rock/ blued eyed soul sprinked with coffee grounds. It’s a good album and works well for him. Mission accomplished. I’m very glad:). I think he has every real chance of success.

Adam Lambert presented AIers many sounds/personas during Season 8. Something I find refreshing. I think its safe to say that not everyone else in the Idolsphere feels the same. I’m not trying to pidgonhole you, here, or state this how you, in particular, feel. I guess I’m saying, it is going to be impossible for Adam Lambert to please everybody with this album. He is doing what he has always done — offering another side himself for public inspection. Whether, it is a critical and/or public success remains to be seen, but I fucking flove it!

As to his vocals, tls62, for me, has thus far, worded it best:

“The quality of his vocals ALONE is setting him apart from other artists on the charts today.”

    ‘Nuff Said.

  • chocobosandwich

I’m sure this has been mentioned to death, but having a dedicated album to cover classic or obscure songs with an Adam twist would be preferable for me at this point. I like his Ai performances first and foremost, and he did them on a weekly basis so easily that making an album would seem a trivial matter, at least to appeal to the AI demographic. And I wouldn’t have to “get with the times” because newer isn’t always better for everyone, especially with something so subjective like music.

What happened to the clips? It says file not found on the last 3 songs.
Darn….but let me tell you I wish they would have leaked Broken Open, cause he wrote that one and it might be my favorite on the whole album. I’m not too fond of ‘Music Again’ and ‘If I Had You’ is a good catchy tune, but doesn’t sound like Adam. Pink should have kept ‘Whataya Want From Me’ ….it needs her rough and tough voice to carry it over. It’s too high pitched and makes him sound to feminine.
I wish I could have heard Sleepwalker again with the longer version. I remember I like the short clip.

The problem is , on Idol he sang these well established songs that we all knew and did an outstanding job on them. I think he has been given weak material for this new Album. Again I love Adam to bits….this is MHO on the clips I could hear.

  • Lulu2

These five seem good, but not as good as For Your Entertainment. Of these five, I like Sleepwalker best. What I hope for Adam is that he has a hit with a fun song with a great musical hook, like Womanizer or Single Ladies. I like Adam’s electronic sound, but I think that kind of music needs a great hook to really hit it big. As a former college DJ, my opinion is that electro-pop originated, more or less, with disco. What has endured of that genre are the songs with the great hooks, like Bad Girls or Play that Funky Music. I hope that Adam’s album has a song like that. I haven’t listened to any of the other, shorter samples.

‘For me Adam is just on a different level than a lot of the buffoons that are out there today and call themselves ‘artists’
I find myself changing radio stations like a lunatic over and over again cuz I cant find anything I like and that fucking sucks.
The music industry was in dire need of someone like Adam.’

So true. Season 8 had a number of kids who offer the music world a potential shot in the arm.

Sorry that the negative Nancy that I am is still here, but IMO Adam can still make something less electronic and get people entertained, on their feet, and dance. Case in point, Let’s Dance from the tour or Play That Funky Music. Adam should be doing that stuff instead of electro-pop if he wants to make something danceable.

I hear the vocals loud and clear. Live Adam and recorded Adam are different, as we heard in the studio versions of his Idol performances.

I expect live FYE to be completely different as well. Can’t wait until 11/23!

Me too,I believe ADAM is much better performing live!

And I wouldn’t have to ‘get with the times’ because newer isn’t always better for everyone, especially with something so subjective like music.

So Adam could pull his own SuBo and maybe sell it on QVC?

    I keed.

But yes, Adam could do the vocals for classic rocks songs or maybe just take a job fronting Queen if they ask, maybe Aerosmith on the weekends, or visa versa.

    I keed again, sorry.

Seriously I get wanting harder and more rock stuff from him. I would have loved him to go a more Muse route. But first off, Muse sells for crap in this country (Twilight soundtrack being the exception) and secondly that’s not the direction he wanted to go right now. And it’s cool not to dig what he’s creating. I honestly do think that Adam will have a challenge going outside his fanbase, because I think a fair amount of them will be disappointed he wasn’t more like the person they liked on Idol.

  • webster

Hmmm. I’m still interested in hearing the whole album, but….I think Adam’s a great singer, and by that I mean not just a great vocalist but also a very good musician. But on these snippets, at least, I’m not hearing anything particularly interesting.

  • abbysee

I like all of the snippets presented today. I especially like Music Again and Sleepwalker, I remember them even after I walk away from the computer. That’s a good sign for me.

I didn’t expect him to reinvent the wheel. I do hear something fresh though, as there really is nothing new in music, only how it’s presented. I remember people flipping out over rap when I was a teenager, and then my uncle pulled out a record from a group called The Last Poets, and educated me. So for all who are disappointed, sorry. I am enjoying the ride, and the genre bending he’s doing. It’s fun. I like danceable, beat driven music, with some cool lyrics. Mission Accomplished. For the record, no dude is doing this successfully in the US, so in the respect, it is new unchartered, unconquered territory.

    - Maybe. But these are just 5 songs with lots of rock beat in it. We haven’t heard the longer snippets of the ballads where his vocals will surely shine – Soaked, Loaded Smile, Aftermath, Broken Open. Just as he said, there is something for everyone. So to me everything still looks good. I love what I heard now and i’m sure I’m going to love the remaining songs.

Music is subjective. I appreciate that Adam knows he is not everyone’s cup of tea, yet seems to be OK with it. I might not feel a connection to all his music, but his voice always draws me in. I love the fact that he is “in love” with music… it’s quite infectious. I think he meant what he said (although it might not had come out quite as politely as he had wanted) – if you don’t enjoy my music, buy the other guys’. I know he would love to have everyone as an Adam Lambert fan, but I feel he really just wants people to be a fan of music. And that’s one of the many reasons why I find him refreshing and inspiring.

  • Jae

edit: wow way out of line. snipped the lecturing. please follow my guidlines

  • suebrody

Same here, Lola. I prefer songs where his vocals shine (like on Sleepwalker, Soaked, Broken Open, TfM) or where they seem less distorted to me (Aftermath, If I Had You–bouncey!, Pick U Up, Whatya Want from Me, others). I guess that’s why I do not like FYE or Music Again; I know it’s not autotune, but it sounds too processed to *me*. Just not my favorites. But overall, this album is going to be everything I could have asked for. Oh, so much fun…performances, interviews, pictures of emo hair Adam (lol), TOURING…I am beyond excited.

Ooh, I forgot about Loaded Smile. CANNOT WAIT FOR THAT ONE.

I wanna flail and squee but I will wait till Monday to do so again… ;)

Lets Dance and PTFM are old songs..too dated…that stuff just wouldnt sell now a days, thats why Adam wanted to make everything sound modern..as for the less electronic stuff…the rest of the songs accomplish that, listen to the snippets and you’ll see…I agree with the notion that some of these songs are the weakest on the album, except Music Again and Sleepwalker.
Im starting to get the impression that ppl think these five songs are like, the whole album and they are not.

I think it’s also good to know that some will be disappointed because this is not the Adam they liked on Idol. This will mean that he will be reaching out to a larger base – outside the AI bubble. He has already has a fanbase within AI. He may lose some of them but he will gain new ones too -those who haven’t heard him before but might get interested with his music.

  • erinnthered

Well…I can’t say the longer clips helped the songs. I did not expect that.

Music Again…Mika is doing this kind of thing much better. I thought this was going in a different direction. Damn, I was hoping this would be a lot more fun.

A few years ago I would have said If I Had You would be a huge club/ dance hit, but now I don’t know. I’m a bit behind, but this doesn’t seem to be where club music is right now.

Didn’t like Pick U Up in the shorter snippet, and this didn’t change anything. Are we sure this was written by Rivers Cuomo? Then again, it may just be the difference in musical interpretations. I don’t know.

I still really like Sleepwalker. The lyrics are…really cheesy…but it’s right in my wheelhouse, so that’s good. ETA: As far as cheesy lyrics, all Idols have cheesy lyrics on their first albums, so really it’s not effecting my love of the song. I really do still like it.

Ok…so…Whataya Want From Me…this is totally the kind of guilty pleasure song I love…except the lyrics…I just wish they weren’t so…literal? obvious? something…I’m kinda pissed, because the snippet made me so happy that there might be one of those great songs you’d be embarrassed to admit you have on your iPod, but can’t take the damn thing off repeat…I don’t know…ETA: I never really saw this as a single, just a “fan fave” guilty pleasure type thing.

Not sure I’ll buy the album now. I may just get a bunch of the singles. It all depends on what’s cheaper.

ETA: I really expected to like this a lot more, because it is the kind of thing I listen to, and because the shorter snippets sounded a lot more fun.

    Nice review in Spin: http://www.spin.com/reviews/adam-lambert-your-entertainment-19-recordingsrca

“The success of former American Idol contestants is measured not only by who helps them, but by what material they get and how well they make it their own. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Muse chips in here with perhaps the strongest, most flavorful batch of tunes to reach an AI vet, and Lambert’s polymorphous vocal skills unite dancefloor strut and hard-rock pomp in a convincing glam package. Flamboyance with a fire underneath, this is mainstream glitz liberated by both guts and chops; the gay equivalent of gospel.”

  • cayman

My 16 yr. old granddaughter loves FYE, does not watch AI and when I asked her to check out Adam’s AI music was not that interested. Old music to her, this is her music, I believe he will appeal to a whole new, music buying, group of ,dance your face off, fans. At least my granddaughter and her friends now think he is DOWN! That is a good thing in her world.

  • schufly

OK, so for me, the snippets are amazing. Adam’s voice sounds incredible, and compared to most of the current “pop” male vocalists, it is SUCH a breath of fresh air. So so tired of hearing most of the crap that is out there sounding like chipmunks on helium or the rap that is being passed off as music. Yeah, we all want to hear him sing our favorite genre of music, and someday I am sure that each of our dreams will come true. In the mean time, I am sure loving what he has offered so far!!

Everything I have heard so far is better than I expected.

I can see big hit written all over “whataya want from me”. And “pick u up” and “sleepwalker” not too far behind.

  • Truthiness

    - Maybe. But these are just 5 songs with lots of rock beat in it. We haven’t heard the longer snippets of the ballads where his vocals will surely shine ‘“

Actually I was talking more about the lack of rock from these and the album that I’m talking about some will be disappointed. I think Adam has more of a chance to appeal to the MW Adam with some of the ballads/slower songs on this album. But for the fans of like RoF, WLL, his B&W, I honestly think there will be some disappointment that there isn’t enough of that on this album. And I doubt there will be any tracks that will fulfill that for them.

But I get that. I wanted some acoustic stuff from Kris, rawer rock from Allison, and again, I would have liked some more Muse-y type rock out songs from Adam, but hey, it’s an AI album and it wouldn’t be without some people being disappointed and it’s not being AS creative as it could have been. And by not serving what were perceived to be as the strengths of the idol, on the album. I personrally really like what I’ve heard thus far (Music Again aside) but I can also see the risk (disappointmen) for Adam with this kind of music.

  • suebrody

Sleepwalker (or Streetwalker, (TM) Jim Cantiello and his lousy speakers, as he tweeted) is universally praised. I am BEYOND happy for Aimee Mayo. The others have big fans and detractors. I do think that is good; I think Adam would like it that way. It appeals to a large range of listeners. I do not download singles, but a lot of ppl do, so there will be a lot of pick and choosing. All is good in Adam land tonight. :)

    Happy happy joy joy joy

  • Maddy

  • revcat

Frankly I think a lot of Idol fans like to hear covers of old songs. I enjoy that too and I like the fact that the show exposes a lot of the old classics to the younger generation. However it’s time to pass the torch once they leave the show. The AI kids can’t make a career out of covers, young artists have to make music that young people like, not just us old peace and love holdovers from the 60′s. & 70′s. I think Adam’s music has done with his dance vibe tunes, just that but also has tracks (ballads) that appeal to those of us who are in love with his soaring vocals. Those who don’t like the dance club songs are probably not going to learn to like them, but this doesn’t mean that Adam missed the mark. I really didn’t like FYE at first but I like it now. My tastes are all over the map and I am familiar with a lot of the new artists, definitely not an old fogie. I still think Adam will have 4 hits off of this CD which IMHO would be an awesome debut. People can’t expect to like every track, what album (other than greatest hits collections by established artists) achieved that? NONE!

  • dhunken

  • schufly

I think I am already in love with this album.

Can you imagine how good his next record will be when he has more than, like 2 months to pull it off. Hard to imagine what will be in store on that one.

I also can’t help but wonder, what exactly do people mean when they say they wanted him to do more rock? Where is the line between rock and pop? I also would think you’d get more of a true rock sound from a band, as opposed to a “vocalist”.

  • ljsmack

Didn’t realize there was a new thread, but I absolutely LOVE Music Again and will listen to it again and again…well you get the idea.

  • erinnthered

That’s kinda the feeling I get-maybe they’ll release longer snippets of Soaked, Broken Open, Fever and Loaded Smile.

Here’s my problem. I didn’t like the initial snippets of Loaded Smile or Soaked, and I really wish I hadn’t heard GaGa’s Fever first because she did a much better interpretation of the song. I really hope Broke Open is as good as the snippet, because that was the best thing I’ve heard so far.

Five songs is enough to make the decision to go from buying an album to buying a few singles from an album. Just sayin’

I am a part of the audience Adam is trying to attract. I like this genre in general. Adam’s album just isn’t a good example of it…so far…

You want a breath of fresh air? Try Mika, or Scissor Sisters, or Florence + the Machines, or Heloise & the Savoir Faire. There are some brilliant artists out there doing this stuff a lot better.

Wow Will’ ¦.. you must have superhuman powers

Okay, true confession time, I fibbed a little. I DID listen to about 5 seconds of “Music Again” in a rare moment of weakness. So I guess I am human after all.

  • Destry

I keep listening to Sleepwalker over and over again. Someone tell me to STOP!

  • BeckyMD

Just finished my third listen. All songs made me like them more and want more except for Music Again. Music Again used to be my favorite, but now it sounds like a different song from the 30 sec snippet. It kinda loses its edginess and cool, probably because the long clip starts with a mediocre and dated melody. I think if the actual song arranges differently and has a better intro, I’ll be more into it.

Other than that, I love what I heard. I can see myself spin the whole album in my ipod on my way to work or during workout in gym.

ETA, a print copy of RS article. I like the picture it chose.

  • adamisthemanfan

Actually I was talking more about the lack of rock from these and the album that I’m talking about some will be disappointed. I think Adam has more of a chance to appeal to the MW Adam with some of the ballads/slower songs on this album. But for the fans of like RoF, WLL, his B&W, I honestly think there will be some disappointment that there isn’t enough of that on this album. And I doubt there will be any tracks that will fulfill that for them.

OK I am a HUGE fan of classic rock (My dad pretty much ingrained it in me since conception LOL) and I FLOVE it when he does the rock wail..everything about his voice and temperament fits that genre so well…even his tone of voice…and yeah I would like to hear him sing more rock on his album but again we havent heard the bonus tracks..TFM is a rock ballad and Music Again is a rock song and I genuinely love it (or what Ive heard so far)
Also the muse song is a rock song…albeit its more of a ballad but its still within the rock vein. So we have that. Plus his style of singing evokes the rock n roll feel.
Also, Im 20 and I wanna dance LOL he NEEDS to attract a younger audience and that is what is popular now…and I love FYE :)
He said various times the album wasnt going to be all rock or all pop so we knew to expect an eclectic album, therefore I cant say Im disappointed…if he lied about the content and style of the album then I would be disappointed and pissed, but he didnt so Im not :)
ALSO lest we forget Adam is in his late 20′s. I seriously doubt he will continue with the dance-type songs into his 30′s and certainly not his forty’s. Though he is a great dancer/entertainer he aint Michael Jackson.
He wants to enjoy being young and dance and have fun..this faze will pass and then believe me, there will be more rock.
If he were in his early 20′s then Id be worried we might get a decade of ‘disco fever’ LOL but hes not so its all good. Everything happened when it was supposed to happen.

    Nice review in Spin: http://www.spin.com/reviews/adam-lambert-your-entertainment-19-recordingsrca

Wow, that’s an early review. Have there been any others? I’ve only seen reviews of the snippets.

  • Truthiness

I am a part of the audience Adam is trying to attract. I like this genre in general. Adam’s album just isn’t a good example of it’ ¦so far’ ¦

You want a breath of fresh air? Try Mika, or Scissor Sisters, or Florence + the Machines, or Heloise & the Savoir Faire. There are some brilliant artists out there doing this stuff a lot better.

And none of them are produced by 19Evil with their timeframe or their bent towards commercialism. I love the Scissor Sisters, and Muse, and they sell for crap in the US. Just saying.

One other thing about these clips though and then I really must go shop and read in that order, they’re jumbled and out of place. They’re not full clips, just bits of the song put in different ways.

Now I’m not saying I think that anyone will change their mind about it afterwards. I actually doubt it. But I do think it’s something to consider.

Oh and I disagree with you about the Weezer song, it has a pretty Weezer sound to it to me. Especially evident to me after like two or three listens.

I like the lyrics and beat of If I Can’t Have You, but agree with saga that the chorus is still problematic. So about it being a club song, yeah I think that chorus gets in the way of it. It’s a bit dated, imho.

But hey, too bad you like the album less based on hearing more of it and doubtful that will change. It happens. I’ll just hope that Adam manages to do well financially with this album, so he can do another with less time contstraints and maybe he’ll be able to make something you can enjoy. Or maybe not.

  • sdmama

I love Adam to death and don’t want to say anything less than 120% positive, but I have to agree that some of these songs are a bit too post processed to my taste and I can’t pick out his wonderful voice out of it. His voice does sound buried, sometimes in his own voice, when we have Adam over Adam over Adam over Adam. It made me wish to hear his live version, knowing that he can’t sing four parts at the same time live. (Or can he? He might be able to walk on the water… )

I agree with the sentiment about “soaring lead vocal”. I loved that, too. I feel Adam is under-utilized in some of the song production. But the emphasis on ‘some’. Some are not like that, and those shall be my favorites. And it is nice to have variety of music on one album, and I still think as a collection, this is going to be a great album.

To point out it is unfair to judge the album with only 4 songs: If I Had You and Pick U Up side by side have identical dram beat and that bothered me.. I didn’t even notice when I was listening to the entire 14 snippets repeatedly.

  • St.Lucia

Five songs is enough to make the decision to go from buying an album to buying a few singles from an album. Just sayin’

That’s exactly it. If I really and truly think about it, there are VERY few albums I truly like every single song from and there has been more than once I’ve regretted buying an album because I only liked a few songs. Before digital music was an option I used to have a “buying rule” where if I didn’t like 3 songs off the album it wasn’t worth a purchase.

Nowadays with the digital market the way it is, it is SO MUCH easier(and nicer) to just buy the songs you like versus a whole album of songs where you just get meh.

At this point I’m much more inclined to buy singles than Adam’s entire album. No that should make me any less of an Adam fan because I find the 5 longer snippets we’ve heard to be “meh” The funny thing is while some people are celebrating his diversity(and while I admire it myself) this does feel like an album made of singles versus to me a cohesive album trying to illustrate a point or evoke a general feeling. It is an album designed to produce hits and SELL. The album is all over the place, not in a bad way, but it just is. That’s just Adam though and nothing I wasn’t expecting. But the “all over the place” isn’t necessarily workin for me in the bigger picture.

And if I really truly think about it, the albums that I truly like every song on from beginning to end are few and far between and in my opinion considered the greatest albums ever, and for me usually have more of a cohesiveness to them versus an album designed to be a hit.

Those beginning to end albums are rarities nowadays.

And FYE is by no means at “Rubber Soul” status with me. :)

  • adamisthemanfan

Can you imagine how good his next record will be when he has more than, like 2 months to pull it off.

Seriously…the time constraint really worried me but he had a lot of help from really good collaborators/songwriters/producers and I think it worked out well considering.

  • erinnthered

And none of them are produced by 19Evil with their timeframe or their bent towards commercialism. I love the Scissor Sisters, and Muse, and they sell for crap in the US. Just saying.

Doesn’t that make you wonder a) if people love Adam so much for his music, then why aren’t they also expanding into buying these artists, and b) are they really interested in marketing Adam in the US?

Muse is finally selling in the US, but that’s because of the Twilight soundtrack, not Adam.

Oh and I disagree with you about the Weezer song, it has a pretty Weezer sound to it to me. Especially evident to me after like two or three listens.

I barely made it through two listens. It really grates. I’ll give it another listen if it will help me hear the Weezer connection because I just don’t. Maybe it’s because I actually like Weezer, and I don’t like this song.

But hey, too bad you like the album less based on hearing more of it and doubtful that will change. It happens. I’ll just hope that Adam manages to do well financially with this album, so he can do another with less time contstraints and maybe he’ll be able to make something you can enjoy. Or maybe not.

I really am sorry this happened, but I’m totally with you on Adam doing well financially. He seems like a good kid, and I do hope he finds an audience outside the AI bubble. Like Taylor Hicks, though, he seems to really stand behind this album, and like Taylor Hicks, I worry it may bite him in the ass. His lack of self-awareness is showing, and it’s not good.

    St. Lucia

This exactly. Also with you on the ‘no buy’ rule. I am so glad the music industry had to reverse their anti-single bias with the rise of digital music. Even if the sound quality still sucks.

Before digital music was an option I used to have a ‘buying rule’ where if I didn’t like 3 songs off the album it wasn’t worth a purchase.

Yes this is very true but this is his DEBUT album and I think a lot of us really want to support him…I know I do and thats why I bought everything involving his album and have loved everyting except No Boundaries. I refuse to listen to that even if it is Adam singing it.
Ive also had the experience of purchasing an album and then only liking a few of the songs and it sucks cuz you feel like you are wasting your money. I dont think I will ever feel like Ive wasted my money by helping Adam become an established artist. Even if he sings pop songs his voice is the best justification for me…a catchy melody or a good good beat doesnt do it for me. I refuse to listen to Britney Spears and the like because I know its FAKE autotuned, over-processed studio crap.
Adam even sounds better live sometimes. How often do we get that luxury now a days?
I think I can name all those who qualify with the number of fingers I have. SO.SAD.

  • Adamme

I’m a fan of RoF, WLL & BWW and I love all the songs in FYE album. I wasn’t crazy of Whatya Want For Me & Sleepwalker on the short snippets but I love them now. DEFINITELY love all these tracks. I’m still wondering why people still trying to speak for others … hhmmm..

  • Bluelens

Agree w Webster, formulaic pop rock. Look forward to the other tracks tho. For Your Entertainment stands out, it’s innovative & fresh. ‘Sleepwalker’ stands out a bit but recycled lyrics (“eyes wide shut”). In “Music Again” a stale lyric “you know what I mean”, unless it is intentionally there to show boredom before the singer gets into music again.

  • dhunken

Wow Will’ ¦.. you must have superhuman powers

Okay, true confession time, I fibbed a little. I DID listen to about 5 seconds of ‘Music Again’ in a rare moment of weakness. So I guess I am human after all.

It’s ok Will, even Superman was weakened around Kryptonite…. I take it a Miley Cyrus song was playing somewhere near you and you needed to gain your strength back.

  • jammasta

Lets Dance and PTFM are old songs..too dated’ ¦

Except Adam changed them and made them more current (Well, more on Let’s Dance). I don’t want him to make carbon copies, but I’m just saying those performances were the perfect type if he wanted to make something danceable that didn’t risk sounding over-produced.

Why is it necesssary to keep telling people again and again that you think he made a mistake and is going to fail and he sold out, etc?

Isn’t that what criticism is? I’m not saying he’s gonna fail, I think he’s gonna do great. I just think the electronic music route is a mistake (including on Lady GaGa’s part, and look at how successful she is).

I really do WANT to like these songs. I can’t. This type of electronic music grates on my ears really badly and genuinely give me headaches. Not a fault of Adam that the music is harsh, it’s generally the genre.

That said, I’m REALLY looking forward to Soaked. That was the biggest standout and may make me buy his album just for that song and maybe a few others.

  • adamisthemanfan

‘Sleepwalker’ stands out a bit but recycled lyrics (‘ eyes wide shut’ ).

Oh I didnt catch that…but thats tolerable though and not nearly as bad as one of Jennifer Hudson’s songs where she uses the line “you had me at hello”
when I heard that I was like WTF? SOOO cheesy. Shes a case thats benefitted from her movie roles but imho the music she has put out so far sucks. Ironically the tragedy that occurred within her family garnered a lot sympathy…she was presented with a grammy from none other than Whitney Houston.
Shes still a PHENOMENAL singer though and that is what ultimately counts. She rocked it in Dreamgirls and in the MJ memorial tribute…and just like Adam she can rock the classics. Everything else is just marketing, connections and making appearances. Not too shabby.

interesting, those longer snippets are even better(and attracting) than the 30secs’.
would this be released in asia the same day 11/23?

I am amazed that ‘Spin’ reviewed an American Idol CD. That is a fantastic review for Adam’s album.

3 1/2 stars is what they gave to Muse and Mika’s albums.

    WOW!!!!

Like Taylor Hicks, though, he seems to really stand behind this album, and like Taylor Hicks, I worry it may bite him in the ass. His lack of self-awareness is showing, and it’s not good

It’s funny, I feel this exacy same way about the music I heard from Kris’ album. However, I didn’t need to explain over and over and in long essay format what I didn’t like about it.

But Kris doesn’t stand behind his album completely. He wrote and include a song about he and Jive not coming eye-to-eye, remember? He shows quite a lot so self-awareness (of the quality of his album, I guess?) and have his butt saved.

  • LaurelG

Great review from Spin: Lambert’s polymorphous vocal skills unite dancefloor strut and hard-rock pomp in a convincing glam package.

Love the fact that you can hear his voice on these tracks. That voice elevates everything he sings. I really believe most of the reviews are going to underscore the beauty of his voice.

This is going to be a kick-ass album. Can’t wait for the tour!

  • erinnthered

I, on the other hand, did like the initial snippets, and was displeased with the longer versions. Seems like I’m not the only one who might want to share in their disappointment. This is where I come to do that when it’s Idol related. This is an Adam thread, not an Adam lover’s thread. Just scroll on by, and be happy.

But Kris doesn’t stand behind his album completely. He wrote and include a song about he and Jive not coming eye-to-eye, remember? He shows quite a lot so self-awareness (of the quality of his album, I guess?) and have his butt saved.

And this. Thank you, BeckyMD. I’d have loved for Adam to have hedged a bit more, but at least he loves what he’s doing, and plenty of other people seem to too.

I also edited out something I felt was inappropriate to add.

    - That’s why I don’t worry too much about Adam if he doesn’t do well in the US (as the non-fans will always declare even though he is charting better than the other guy). Simon knows what he is talking about when he said they found a worldwide star.

I just heard it for the first time and I want to writ my first impression before reading everyone else (haven’t even read what mj wrote yet):
    They are AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!
Music Again- I wasn’t diggin the shorter snippet- butr it has me now! What a badasss guitar solo! And all the harmonys…. Very Cool!
If I had you- I already thought from the snippet that it’s a great club song- but now it sounds like it’s more sophisticated than ?I thought- love it.
Pick u Up- I loved the short snippet too, so I was relieved to like the rest, too…
Sleepwalker- Okay, if anyone had any doubts- this one’s gonna be a major hit- mark my words! This will be the 3rd single- and it will do amazingly- go Teddar (and Aimee and the rest)!!! Yes I’ve become a prophet…
Whataya- Much better than the snippet, still not sure about it though- I’ll say after a few more listens….

And now I’m off to work (hopefully will be able to read other peeps comments there…)

  • Chicagolaw

Really nice review in Spin :)

  • BeckyMD

I too was more excited about the shorter snippets, but I won’t jump to conclusion or become disappointed about the quality of the whole album because 1) the longer snippets are out of right order which will distort the concept and production of the songs 2) the audio quality of the snippets is low which get scaled-up in longer version and leads to the impression of over-produced 3) these longer snippets are more middle to up tempo and therefore lose the beauty of variety that come from ballad like ‘soaked’ and ‘broken open’ and fun numbers like ‘fever’ and ‘strut’.

What I’m impressed and hope will show in the album is the sick guitar in many of these long snippets. That plus Adam’s voice is shiny gold for me.

  • Summer

Remember when that sleazebag John Hecker from Wilshire Records released Adam singing “Want”, and it was noted that the same song was streaming on Wilshire’s site , sung by an artist named Dublyn Jones, and named “December”?
Well, Dublyn’s myspace contains 2 more of the songs that Adam sang demos for, that are now being released on Wilshire’s exploitative cd of Adam’ pre idol HiFi demos.

Well hedging by Kris aside, which I gather from another thread, he was back-pedling about, all AI artists stand behind their albums. Most artists do, that’s what they’re supposed to do in the interview circuit or whatever, sell the album. Hedging about it and saying ‘well, not what I wanted. Parts of it weren’t as good as we liked, or yeah, some parts are weak,’ just isn’t going to happen. I would think Adam would be stupid to say anything like that.

I would hope that people would have an awareness about selling albums to realize that whatever any of the Idols say, or most musicans say about their album, is like an actor on a late night show hawking their latest movie.

Basically that it’s part of the game and it’s their job. Adam probably just comes across as more earnest about it, because that’s who he is, and he, foot-in-mouth parts aside, gives good interview.

  • Mtlfan

Just listened to those longer snippets and agree with what mj wrote.
I’m interested in getting “Music Again” and Sleepwalker”. I find those very good, and of the 5 heard, they stand out. Love his crazy high register on “Music Again” and the song is quite original. Sleepwalker is very catchy, love the melody and has potential hit written all over it.
Love the chorus on ‘Whataya Want From Me’ but i need to hear the whole song before to know if i connect.

  • jammasta

In case anyone still cares about what I have to say, Whataya Want From Me was my second or third favorite after the first snippets, and I still somewhat like it after the newer snippet.

  • kariann

wow I could not contain myself with joie de vivre when I heard thse longer version of these 5 songs. Amazing vocals (esp in sleepwalker) sound, hooks, beats, etc. I know the potential of a song becoming a hit when I hear one. My favorite is If I Had You. I was already picturing Adam’s song production, he dressed in leather and boots and eyeliner with the dancers.

I’m still excited about the album based on these snippets. Music Again sounded a bit different than I thought it would based on the 30 second snippet but I still love it. Plus it’s obviously weird to hear it in parts. Pick U Up didn’t call my attention to much in the shorter snippet but I actually like it now! I’m completely addicted to Sleepwalker. You miss the point. There are plenty of ways for an artist – any musician, actor, or otherwise, to hawk their product and not give it a huge seal of approval. For a recent example, see Kris Allen. He’s clear that he’s happy about the album, and that it represents him musically, but that he would’ve liked more time, and did fight to have a few different songs on the album.

No one would take that as him saying he doesn’t stand by the album, but it does give him a little breathing room in future.

Adam is doing what Taylor Hicks did, and Taylor meant every word he said. He’s going above and beyond. He’s unequivocal. Not a lot of room to breath in the PR department. Adam knows how to praise with reservations. He’s done it before. He chooses not to now. It’s what it says about him, not what he’s saying about the album.

I agree, the review from Spin is great.

I’ve been a good little boy and haven’t opened any of the presents early. Still haven’t listened to a single snippet. *pats self on back smugly*

Will! That’s why Mom likes you best!! :)

Well, I loved the cover the moment I saw it, and loved most of the short snippets the moment I heard them. The songs I liked the least just happen to be the ones that turned up in these longer clips. “Music Again” is still my least favorite. Queen meets the Moody Blues. I’ve changed my mind about Sleepwalker and now love it. I’m still meh about the Pink song. Yeah, it has “hit” written all over it.. and that’s a good thing, of course. But, I’m more interested in Loaded Smile, Soaked, and Broken Open. Pick U Up is great, and I think If I Had You is really going to grow on me – fast.

  • Chicagolaw

Seems like the majority of people are really liking the album so far, so that’s all good.

And 3.5 stars is a great review from Spin, and a pretty great review for an Idol debut album.

Edited to add: if Adam was “praising his album with reservations” that would be reason for alarm. And, I am sure they ALL would have liked more time, Adam included. And don’t for a minute think that Adam and Kris and Allison aren’t going to stand firmly behind their debut albums—they would be nuts if they didn’t. They also won’t be pointing out the shortcomings and faults as they work to promote it, or at least they better not.

  • dsp

It’s what it says about him, not what he’s saying about the album.

    What do you mean??

  • didilynn

I am now even more EXCITED for the album – I love the snippets! I seem to be in the minority but Sleepwalker is my least favorite of these.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Music Again so much – but then one of my favorite things about Adam (and there are many) is what he can do with his voice and I find the change from low to high here so exhilarating and yes, sexy.

    The order for me:
    Music Again
If I Had You (it’s staying in my head a long time)
    Whataya Want From Me
    Pick U Up
    Sleepwalker

  • http://twitter.com/glamtwinkle twinkle

i think the idea that an artist should subtly make excuses for an album is totally ridiculous. if you think there are things on there that dont represent you, you shouldnt have put it out there, and if you HAD TO, dont talk about them – focus on the good… but an artist, particularly a NEW artist, that is trying to 1) SELL an album to people, 2) impress the media and others in the industry, and 3) get people to want to work with him in the future – making excuses and blaming others would be in bad form, in my opinion.

why would i want to buy or even listen to an album that the artist, him or herself, is already making excuses for? i would rather have the person focus on communicating what is great about it and why i should be interested.

Adam knows how to praise with reservations. He’s done it before. He chooses not to now. It’s what it says about him, not what he’s saying about the album.

Yes, and what he was praising with reservations wasn’t his debut album, from an AIer. Adam is very aware that he should be grateful for this opportunity and probably very aware that pissing off TPTB responsible for that, not the best thing to do.

I think Adam is right in trying to do his job and sell his album as much as possible and again, I feel that most people know that is the job of these guys at this point. And Kris has expressed worries about the time, so did Adam and Allison and all three said it wasn’t a problem at the end and that they’re happy with what they did, blah blah blah. I don’t really see anything different or indeed wrong with that Adam is saying. Is it that he might genuinely like the album and you don’t think it’s worthy of being liked because it’s quality is high enough? Okay, but again, even Adam had reservations or wanted to take more time, (and he has in fact said he was worried about it and has mentioned the work/timeframe stuff) it wouldn’t matter. He could be unsatisfied all he wanted, but wouldn’t change that he wouldn’t have a choice or the time to make a better album. Adam might very well be aware of the limitations, but be happy with the results within those limitations and so genuinely likes the album…given all of that. And yeah, he’d still stand by it, as well he should.

And Adam expressing some qualified reservations? man, that would really put a damper on his sellling interviews for it. While that might make him feel better about his possible cred, it certainly won’t help with sales at all, nor would it help with TPTB he’s signed to. So there really isn’t an upside to his doing that. What really would be the point?

  • MelP75

    @erinnthered

What exactly does it say about him?? I don’t get your comment about that. If he said anything even remotely negative about it I think it would be kind of disrepectful to the people who helped him on the album. Especially since it’s his debut album.

  • Winks8

Adam is doing what Taylor Hicks did, and Taylor meant every word he said. He’s going above and beyond. He’s unequivocal. Not a lot of room to breath in the PR department. Adam knows how to praise with reservations. He’s done it before. He chooses not to now. It’s what it says about him, not what he’s saying about the album.

Actually, Adam’s doing what Adam does. I don’t doubt for one second that Adam is totally thrilled with this album. He radiates joy, comittment and passion when he talks about it. He’s told us from day one what kind of album he wanted to put out — and it seems to me he’s given us exactly what he talked about. Adam has also been very upfront about feeling pressure, having to meet high expectations, being the “new kid on the block” and saying his music isn’t for everyone.

And yes… it is “what it says about him.” It says a lot to me. A lot about honesty, confidence, and standing behind your work product. And why wouldn’t he? It’s fantastic! :-)

And not to worry… he’s the furthest thing from Taylor Hicks. That comparison just doesn’t jive.

Oh… and I don’t think “unequivocal” is really how I’d say Adam is when he describes his album… just MHO.

  • gemini1

For a recent example, see Kris Allen. He’s clear that he’s happy about the album, and that it represents him musically, but that he would’ve liked more time, and did fight to have a few different songs on the album.

No one would take that as him saying he doesn’t stand by the album, but it does give him a little breathing room in future.

See, to me Kris has never seemed excited about his single or his album. Most artist promote their product. It’s not a bad thing to feel like what you have been working on is good.

No one? Some might take Kris’ non-enthusiasm as an unsure attitude towards the product he is putting out. In fact, some already have.

Most music buyers will decide if they like the music for themselves. They might catch an interview or they might not. I’m thinking that hearing positive statements may not help, but it can’t hurt.

  • Yui

    I LOVE THESE!!!

I reallly like Pick U Up, Sleep Walker, Whataya Want from Me, and basically all… hahaahha but i guess my least favorite would be Music Again. like the chorus tho :)

Oh but yea. is anyone else a bit annoyed that sony keeps on removing all the youtube streams of Adam’s FYE??? Because i cant find one single vid anymore (all got removed) and lots of ppl like to check youtube for potential songs and now thats not an option! gahh stupid promotion >.>

  • AndreaH

Is this what we’re going to see when Adam performs FYE on the AMA show?

I love dress-up, I love costume, I love make-up and all that crap, so I have a feeling that I’m going to tailor a look for each song. I kind of think that for the first single, “For Your Entertainment,” we’re going to go for more of an old Hollywood look, like 1930s style, but influences of Berlin, kind of dark, black and white, opium den, old glam? I want it to look like Valentino, old movie star, like black and white, pencil moustaches ‘” that kind of vibe.

As a Kris fan, I think that if one followed Kris’s journey throughout this whole process, one will deduce that Kris is just not the kind of guy who is expressive in interviews. However, in the moments when he has talked about recording, to me he has come off as really happy and really content. His tweets have constantly been about how much fun he has been having recording and there’s a lot of “I love my job” tweets too. To people who don’t know him very well he might come off as unhappy with the way his album is going.

I think both guys are extremely pleased with the way their records have turned out. They have worked with some great writers and producers and I’m sure both could not be happier at the way things have turned out.

  • alxsavage

3 1/2 stars is what they gave to Muse and Mika’s albums.

They also gave 3 1/2 to U2′s latest album O_O!

I don’t know, if I was Adam, I would adore my album if it had songs by Matt Bellamy and Lady Gaga, given by them to me. Therefore, in my eyes, any kind of excitement is justified. Plus, the guy’s just positive! Seems like he works energies the right way.

  • gemini1

Absolutely! It seems that fans of both these guys are very excited about the albums that their guy is putting out! If Kris wants to shout excitement from the rooftop or just tweet that he is having fun, it all helps promote his album. The same goes for Adam. Being positive and passionate is infectious!

  • NewFan

Oh and Monte is definitely part of his new band.

This seems like a good idea from so many angles. He must be a great guitarist having worked for Madonna. And he didn’t disappear into the woodwork or, worse, get all upset in the press when Adam disavowed the projects that contained Lambert/Pittman co-written songs. I would think that Adam might have lost a friend there but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Perhaps Monte is something of a true friend who would be especially good to have around.

Question: I just checked iTunes Canada and saw FYE the single at #14 and the FYE the album at #10. But for the first time I noticed that FYE was the only unreleased album on the list; the only one that was on pre-order. It probably doesn’t mean too much but I wondered if this was also the case on iTunes in the U.S.

And while the tracklist is given, you can’t, as yet, sample any of the songs …

    WOW !!! WOW !!!

I just got here and these longer clips are awaiting !! Thanks mj.

Love, love, love SLEEPWALKER, MUSIC AGAIN and WATAYA WANT FROM ME.
I’ll go back to listen more of the clips while read all the posts.
Thanks again, mj. Really appreciate your clips and your input.

I don’t know how to undo the bold letters. Sorry.

  • jammasta

First of all, what Starr said. Both guys sound enthusiastic about their albums, Adam’s just more expressive while Kris is more low-key, but that’s for a different thread.

    Second,

I love dress-up, I love costume, I love make-up and all that crap, so I have a feeling that I’m going to tailor a look for each song. Okay, now this I REALLY have to see. I admit that I don’t like the song, but the way he’s talking about it, it sounds like gold. Hopefully he’s doing it live so the song will sound better and have an amazing visual.

I highly doubt Adam will ever lip-synch during a live performance. Wasn’t he the one who protested against the lip-synching in the group numbers on AI? If I have to eat my words and he lip-synchs on the AMA’s, it will be a sad day indeed.

  • asifclueless

    Me likey- MUSIC AGAIN.
SLEEPWALKER is my Fav. right now.
IF I HAD YOU – Hmm !!-will give it a chance- listen 5 more times.
I think PICK U UP will grow on me.

SLEEPWALKER is going to be a hit-my humble opinion.

  • grahamcracker888

OMG! the longer the sound clips, the better this album sounds. it sounds better and better with each clip. quite a few singles can come from this CD. imagine the music vids to go with each of the singles!

  • LeeTravers

Listened to these longer clips so much they’ve become ingrained in my synapses (what’s left of them). Fear I may confuse them with the real tracks when the album finally emerges from what seems the last century.

“I’m not asleep – I’m not awake.” Expresses it quite nicely.

  • NewFan

thank you but nvm … found another way …

  • will

NewFan, sorry I can’t answer your question about the top ten albums, I’d have to research each one to see if they are a pre-order or not. But it seems to be a moot point, because FYE has fallen to No. 18 at the moment.

ETA: Oops, I see you deleted your question.

  • BeckyMD

No, that’s definitely an early review of the album.

If it’s based on 30 sec snippets I can’t take it very seriously. Still glad about the positive review through.

    http://www.spin.com/reviews/adam-lambert-your-entertainment-19-recordingsrca

I am totally amazed that Spin even reviewed this album — and 3-1/2 star from spin for a pop album — and an Idol alum 19R pop album is quite good.

  • Reflections On Life

Hmmm… am I the only who likes the songs less now that we get the longer clips? Having said that, I’m sure if they got repeated radio play, I’d get used to any of them quickly.

(No criticism of Adam – he sounds & sings great. It’s just that these songs aren’t working for me as much as they did before.)

Sleepwalker – not liking it. Ryan Tedder has a habit of taking a single word or phrase that I never particularly ever wanted boomed and then booming it as the chorus. Sleepwalker, Battlefield, Halo… Pls make it stop! ;)

Music Again – I am just in LOVE with the refrain “Oh you make wanna listen to music again”, as well as the low-to-falsetto run that comes just before it! I sing it in the shower! But the rest of the song is forgettable & boring.

If I Had You – nice club song. Something safe & fun that Cher or Madonna or Kylie would sing.

Pick You Up – he sounds the most musical-theater on this song, i.e. clear as a bell, like a Glee cast member.

Whatdya Want From Me – very hitworthy. But having listening to Allison’s clips this morning, and with her emotive voice still ringing in my brain, I feel like I’d rather hear Allison or Pink sing this song. Adam sounds like he’s singing it but not feeling it. Allison would put so much emotion & soul into this. Maybe they’ll get to duet this someday… :)

I can’t wait to hear the long clips of the rest of the songs!

P.S. The Adam v Kris fanwars are really taking up a lot of this thread… Would prefer to read more actual reviews of the songs posted.

I’m sold. I like PICK U UP. I like it more than IF I HAD YOU.
But I agree with mj. IIHY is potential club hit.
I have two left feet. I can’t dance. So I’m surprised that I like this album. I guess I like Adam then he can do no wrong to me. He has changed my genre of music. I’m an uptight person who used to sit through the operas or recitals of the classical. Later on the crossover popera took over me.
And now Adam’s songs and artists he admires are the only songs on my ipod.

  • Starr

I am hoping the full-length version of “Fever” turns out better than what the 30-second snippet showcases. I was really looking forward to this song, but was kind of disappointed when I heard the snippet. Gaga’s version totally floored me. Maybe I shouldn’t have listened to the demo first, who knows if that would have changed things? Can’t wait to hear the whole track.

  • aa618892

Finally finished my homework and posted. I listened to these snippets again now without distractions and I am just blown away. I love, love, love what I am hearing and just can’t wait to hear the rest. Sleepwalker is awesome, Music Again don’t get me started, crazy about it. Pick U Up I like even better now, it has a quirkiness I didn’t expect. The one I liked the least in the short snippet, IIHY, I am just loving now, it’s just fun. And to think there are still several more songs! Just picturing any of these songs live and I work myself up. I think Adam and his team did a fantastic job with this album. Bravo!

  • Q3

I have really been trying to reserve judgment on these songs until I hear they whole songs. Plus, these clips are two fagments pasted togther — which is a bit odd. Overall all the longer clips are vocally more complex than I expected from the short clips — and I am even more convinced that it is best to reserve judgment for the whole songs.

‘Music Again’ ‘“ I think think this song may be a real treat for glam rock fans, but at the bottom of the list for people who prefer light alt. pop rock/AC.

“If I Had You” – just perfect for a dance mix. Makes me want to dance.

“Sleepwalker” – this is a great song. And the longer version is even better. Even on these poor quality samples, the vocal layering is beautiful. It is not the kind of song I usually like but I think I may really love this one.

“Pick U Up” — This is a really interesting song — I was surprised that the theatrical vocal section was here — no way to know that was there from the 30 clip. This is the clip that I have been playing on repeat for a while.

“Whataya Want From Me” – Not my fav — but beter in the longer clip. I really don’t think the instrumentation or production that much — but I am sure it will be popular.

  • Thea

Just opened the thread, and the snippets are not there any more… :(

Anyone know where I can still listen to them?

    thanks

  • madnessinmotion

From the comments it seems like I disagree with a lot of you. “Music Again” was my second favorite snippet (after “Fever”) and now after hearing more of it I LOVE it. I am going to have that one on more than one playlist for sure.

I wasn’t impressed with the snippet of “If I Had You” but I am now looking forward to hearing the whole song. It definitely had me moving my body.

“Pick You Up” has ‘Adam personality’ all over it. I just seem to sense him during that song. Does that sound wierd? Kinda, but, yeah, I feel him. :)

“Sleep Walker” is another one where I disagree with most of you. I couldn’t even listen to the whole 2 minutes so I missed the guitar solo everyone is talking about. I will wait until I can hear the whole song before I listen again and will then decide whether to include it on any playlists. I’m not feeling this one at all for some reason so far.

The snippet for “Whataya Want From Me” didn’t get my attention but this extended version did. Now I can’t wait to hear the whole song. This will be another favorite.

Thea, maybe you are on the wrong thread only listing the songs or something. Do a search for “adam snippets” and go down to the headline about the snippets. They are there and they are working.

Something’s wrong- it tells me “file not found” when I click on the songs. :(

    Oh well, I’ll survive (maybe)

Hope that we will get longer clips of SOAKED, SURE FIRE WINNERS, A LOADED SMILE, FEVER, BROKEN OPEN, STRUT, and AFTERMATH.

Are they too much to ask for?
Yes, I’m greedy. But I want something to last me till November 23rd.

MJ, please, please. I BEG YOU.

  • mr

I agree with Studio57′s words (and not for the first time, Studio!) a few pages back- that these are the songs I least liked in 30 sec snippet format (except for Sleepwalker and Pick u Up, which I already liked) , and this made me like them much better!Music again sounds MUCH better than the snippet, and IIHU sounds great! Whataya is the only only one I’m still not feeling- but, hey, I’ll pass final judgement after hearing the whole thing- you know, context and all- especially since this one seems to be very lyric-focused, so I’d like to first hear all the lyrics in the right order, at least, lol
And that’s very exciting news, because I am almost certain that the other songs are even better- Broken Open, Fever, Soaked and Sure Fire Winners made such a HUGE impact on me that it’s hard to imagine they could come out bad in the end (ofcourse nothing’s for sure- but this is my feeling before I can know for sure).
And I also thought Loaded Smile and Aftermath have great potential.
Actually, the ONLY song (along with Whataya) that I’m still not really feeling is Strut, which by the 30 sec snippet sounded a bit too artificial for my personal liking- but, again- we’ll see how the whole song is- and I also see that many people actually like the snippet very much- even the best- so I aint worried about bb too much!
BTW- for the people talking about it not being “a new era of music”- well, it may not be a new era- but it’s definitely fresh and “Sure Fire Winners” sounds like such a perfict mix of rock and electronics (and the combination is definitely still evolving and thus a little groundbreaking, yeah! I said it!) that even the 30 sec snippet has my heart racing! For a rushed production- things sure sound sweet!

  • mr

I guess everyone in the States is asleep right now…

I’ll patiently wait till everyone wakes up… :-)

  • alxsavage

It’s 4am around here, and I just had some time to listen to the snippets.

It’s really hard for me to judge based on them. I still like Music Again a lot, and I need a better quality clip of Sleepwalker, but I’m liking what I’m hearing from it.

The other songs have sounded like album fodder for me since the first snippets came out.

I’m getting the feeling that his voice got drowned just like every freaking idol debut album does with their voices, but I guess I’ll have to wait 11 more days to really find out.

  • alxsavage

Comparing Kris and Adam is truly yawn worthy. It couldn’t be any clearer that Adam and Kris are in different sides of the spectrum musically. I actually really believe that Muse and Gaga have more in common than these couple of guys do. Life gets more interesting when you stop worrying about comparing them.

O.M.G! I need SLEEPWALKER on my ipon NOW!!!!

  • justjude

Yeah, what is with all the sleeping beauties below the 49th. Up here,North of the 49th…..Well I’m never gone till at least two hours from now. Course it helps that I worked the nightshift forever, and, that I must have reset my biological clock!!
So Happy to hear the longer snippets but they are all rather oddly pasted together. Maybe that was the only way to get them(if they were changed????).
Anyway I have to admit I like these better now than I did the short snips.
I previouly thought there were 4- 7 possible hits. I now think Music Again is very good,as well as IIHY and PYU. Already love sleepwalker ,
Aftermath, Fever, Broken open, Loaded Smile(devine) Soaked (devine)
Sure Fire winner(definitely is) FYE (Club hit), Strut (club &pop hit).
Whataya want from me( will get pop play)
Huh, I can’t even remember that I did say “MEH” to one…? loaded smile,
and ,I now recant!!! either that or I just have night brain!!!LOL

  • mr

Justjude- I know, right? I can’t make up my mind (as if I’m his stratigist in any way, lol) which song he should choose for single no. 2… there are sooooo many options. I have this gut feeling that it will be another up-beat song (Fever, Strut or MA or SFW) and that no. 3 will be Sleepwalker and will be a smash.
I agree with you that Broken Open and Soaked sound DIVINE- I’m just wondering if they’ll let him (or if he will want to) release them as singles…

  • japadamania

    I love sleep walker.
But I recommend MUSIC AGAIN for single NO.2

  • saga

Ok I am REALLY liking Pich U Up, especially the bridge! I think it’s a fantastic song! I would definetely release is like a single because it is kind of crazy but I still think it would be a hit. You know, not like everything out there but still good. And did I say I love the bridge?

I agree with some here though that the sound is VERY electronic over all. I think Muse for example makes electronic rock that still feels mainly acoustic, like the electronic parts are special effects in the overall acoustic musical picture, whereas Adam is more electronic with some guitars and drums put in as special effects. And yes, count me in as a liking WLL, ROF, BTWB and missing the acoustic musical focus.

  • mandabutter

real vivi — i want an **iPon**. it sounds fun!!! sorry just had 2. ;) i love the extended versions as well. my fave is ‘if i had u’ and ‘music again.’ the weezer track will have to grow on me. I just get the feeling like someone else could be singing it… I wanna hear the Fever track as well cuz I was slightly irked by the Amazon 30sec tease. I’m sure it will build and be awesome! I prolly shouldn’t have listened to Gaga’s version as much as I did. :l Aimee Mayo did a great job as well w Sleepwalker. And Pink’s track….ahhh too much to love. Nov 23rd can’t come soon enough!!!

  • fluffybunny

I can’t understand Adam has not yet begun promotion. Kris has been doing promotion over a month and already released a music video. Do RCA think Adam will have a strong first week of sales without promotion?

  • universal

Another song that seems to be stuck in my head is If I Had You (in addition to Whataya Want From Me), and that really surprises me. Because it’s actually one of my least favorite songs based on the 30 sec. snippets and these clips.

But here I am at work and not being able to listen to the clips but IIHY seems to be on repeat in my head… I agree with Saga that the chorus is too europop to my liking. Heh, maybe we Europeans don’t like europop? ;)

ETA: Okay, the jukebox in my head just changed to Pick U Up. Much better

  • cmc25

Hmmm…too short and audio quality not good enough to judge. Need to wait for the CD.

  • justjude

mr- Nothing wrong with a little armchair stategy, I say!! I agree, the second single should be another upbeat song, and, I’d like to choose
SFW, a celebration song, I think, to be followed, and then, balance out with sleepwalker, and start over again with Strut, then MA and, well,
the next strategy when we really see what happens. I am so excited to finally have this music!!!!
OK, I may be shallow but I would just love to see him do a song named Strut Live…..Chuckle!!!

  • mr

Ooooh- SFW would be the most ballsy choice, wouldn’t it? Because it’s much more innovative than the others- and that’s why I’m loving it (based on the 30 sec snippet, ofcourse…sigh…)! I think Fever would be a much safer choice- but if he chooses SFW I will worship him and his courage :-)

  • glitter
  • Thea

…and he links to MJ ;)

  • 4Msrmyn

I was born with glitter on my face
My baby clothes made of leather and lace
These are my favorite lines as of now. My favorite things about these songs keep changing. I can see SFW as second single. As much as I love the ballads, Adam needs to keep reaching for younger fans. Why would Fever be safer?

  • mr

    4Msrmyn-
It’s all a hunch ofcourse- but Fever sounds much more mainstream to me ( and I don’t mean it as a put down- because sometimes mainstream can be good- and I really dig it), whilst Sure Fire Winners is just… different, you know? The beat changes three times in 30 secs and it just sounds a little whacky- moving from Queen-ish to Britney-ish to Robot to something completely Adam… and I’m not mentioning the awsome (but again, a little out there) lyrics because for that I really need to listen to the whole song to know… Anyway, it’s just more of a risk. Then again, if he does it, than we can say he has something out there that sounds like nobody else except Adam and his unique new style! With Fever- people will like it, but will ultimately always be linked or compared to GaGa… JMHO

  • mmb

Did anyone already post this (sorry if they did) — Spin Magazine review of album:

“The success of former American Idol contestants is measured not only by who helps them, but by what material they get and how well they make it their own. Everyone from Lady Gaga to Muse chips in here with perhaps the strongest, most flavorful batch of tunes to reach an AI vet, and Lambert’s polymorphous vocal skills unite dancefloor strut and hard-rock pomp in a convincing glam package. Flamboyance with a fire underneath, this is mainstream glitz liberated by both guts and chops; the gay equivalent of gospel.”

    Woo hoo

  • lorismile

Sure Fire Winners’ sounds like such a perfict mix of rock and electronics

Love SFW!!! I am singing the 30 sec snippet at work all day long! It makes me want to start head-banging and dancing at the same time. I wish I could time travel to Nov 22nd already.

  • asifclueless

Adam is very good at LIVE. He will sing his face off.
    A girl can dream. :)
I Imagine he performs SFWINNERS, STRUT, FEVER, AFTERMATH, FYE, and WHATAYA WANT FROM ME. I can see Adam-himself, and Queen, Bowie, Pink and Lady gaga all over the stage.
Then the sitting down set of SOAKED.
BROKEN OPEN will be like RING OF FIRE. I love ROF and didn’t understand why Simon wanted to throw the TV set out of the window. I wanted to kiss the TV set. I thought it was genius, brilliant, and sensual.
A lot of songs will make people get up and dance.
And it’s only November 12th now.
Back to listen more of the clips.

  • http://www.photographybytracyt.com adam_lambert_rocks

I cannot tell you how excited I am about this album. I love every single song but so far , Music again & soaked are my faves. WOW I CANNONT WAIT!! Is it Nov 23 yet???

  • Kath77

Sleepwalker is going to be a monster on the charts, imo. I can tell even from the chopped up sample. It’ll crossover between HAC and CHR. I’d even bet that this is the second singles release. People bag on Ryan Tedder, but the dude knows how to craft hits.

There are easily 4-5 Top 40 hits on this CD, and the Mika/Darkness inspired Music Again should do well internationally. That’s pretty amazing considering the time constraints and the fact that it’s a debut from an AI alumni.

  • brittneybabyy

Unfortunately, I feel that Ryan Tedder has pulled another Halo/Already Gone. “Sleepwalker” sounds incredibly similar to One Republic’s song “All the Right Moves.” I’m not sure if I’m the only one who thinks it, I kind of hope I am.

  • jpfan

I think I liked some of them better in the shorter clips. Why do I hear a Blake Lewis vibe in so many?. Something is missing for some reason. Personality, edge. I can’t figure it out. Anyway, I’d pick Music Again as my favorite.

  • kitkat973

I don’t like Pick U Up. Whataya Want From Me is too mild for my tastes.

Music Again, Sleepwalker, and If I Had You are exactly what I’ve been wanting to hear from Adam, and they’re the persuasion that I’ve needed to actually pick up his album.

  • JazzRocks

I wasn’t sure how much I was gong to like this album as I’m not much of a fan of electro-pop stuff. But I guess Adam gave me something I didn’t know I wanted. :)

My favorites are not here (Soaked, Fever, Sure Fire Winners, Loaded Smile) so I’m a little surprised at how much I like most of these. Love Pick U Up!! I can’t wait to see live performances of these songs during the tour. EPIC!

  • mr

And may I add that I too love the theatrical bridge in Pick U Up! Seriously- who does this? It’s so great to see him unafraid to have a little bit of musical theatre in a current song! Love it!

  • Studio57

What’s so cool to me is that none of these are my favorite songs on the album, but when you take them away from my personal favorites ( Soaked, Fever, Loaded Smile, Broken Open, Strut) you can judge them better. I am really glad that these snippets got leaked- it just really proved to me there isn’t a stinker in the bunch.

mr- I KNOW! The GLEE crowd is gonna LOVE that! I cannot wait to see that on stage. It’s like a rock opera or something!

    When’s the tour? !!!!!

  • justjude

Hmmm, I think there are more hits here than blips!!
I just believe Adam has such good instinct about what will take off, and
in different directions…Celebration SFW & MA……Club & dance FYE, strut
fever, and IIHY….Drama ballads Sleepwalker, BO, LS, aftermath, Soaked…..pop WWFM,& PUU!!!!!!
It’s going to be interesting to see how they do, and how well they wear,as in what will be on repeat over and over.
In aftermath the short clip, I was reminded of inxs for just a moment?
Hmmm, I think I need to sleep now!!!

  • DLee

Does anyone know where the clips came from?

  • Studio57

Dlee- they were from a site called Hitpredictor:

    http://www.hitpredictor.com/

They stream clips and their members rate them for some kind of marketing reasons, I guess.. People were signing up last night as soon as the word got out, lol.

  • mmb

And may I add that I too love the theatrical bridge in Pick U Up!

that bridge does sound a bit like it was lifted from a bway musical (and not in a bad way)…it actually reminds me of a specific show tune but I can’t place my finger on which one (I’m almost thinking about the very beginning of Cabaret, where she sings “when i die I’m going like Elsie” — sort of has that vibe)

  • mmb

flurry of posts before i leave for work……I think you also hear more of the rock influence in the longer posts — you hear the heavy guitars etc…as dancey and poppy as this stuff is, there is a definite rock undercurrent that you can hear

  • mr

    Good morning, Studio57!
I was waiting for all of you guys to wake up already (it’s already 3:15 pm here)!
I think we’re kindred spirits. Seriously, I quoted you (well, not word for word) a few posts ago in saying that some of these were also my least favourite, and these longer (even if somewhat distorted) versions got me really excited, because I’m already pretty much sold on the rest! Whoohoo!
The only point I don’t agree with you (and that too might change after hearing the whole song) is on Strut. Don’t know, something about it seems a little forced… I can’t help imagining Kara thinking she’s gonna be really cool for writing something like “I’ma let it all hang out…” (yeah, I know- it might actually have been Adam’s lyric) and the guitar solo doesn’t sound anywhere near as good on the one on Music Again or Sleepwalker…
But other than that- I read ya!

  • DLee

Do they do that to help them choose the next single based on people’s response?

  • mmb

ok final post…i thought it was interesting that in the rolling stone interview adam talked about lady gaga herself wanting to update and make fever more electro/dancey…..so i’m not sure that it is correct to take adam to task for changing it (i like both versions)….sounds like this had a lot of gaga input and she suggested going in this direction

  • lucy

I feel really let down. I thought Adam was bringing in a new era of music? I thought he was suppose to be creating a new genre of music.

Yeah, because it’s so likely that someone could create a new genre of music in four months, during half of which time they’re performing a daily live show.

Plus — Ask the people who *have* created “new genres” of music. Nobody *liked* their stuff at the beginning. They didn’t *sell* at the beginning. People were outraged and pissed off and didn’t play their stuff on the radio at the beginning — for, like, years in many cases. … And that’s not what RCA wants from an American Idol alum!

I’m not ruling out Adam creating something very very fresh someday — although, frankly, all it seems to me that *he’s* ever said is that he wants to be entertaining and put a bit of a new twist on some older things — but expecting it out of somebody’s first album…somebody’s incredibly rushed first album…that they’ve made under the aegis of the very give-me-the-profits-now-and-screw-tomorrow 19/RCA? Sorry, but that just doesn’t make any sense at all.

We really need to rein in our expectations here, seems to me.

  • oceanarose

Ok, so seems like I’m in the minority here but I’n not really liking Pick U Up. I don’t care for Weezer either so…. I am also liking Whatya Want From Me. My musical tastes seem to be different from alot of you on here as I like country (and yes Taylor Swift) and Nickleback so I guess it’s not a suprise that I would like different songs on the album. That’s the nice thing about this album is that is really does seem to have something for almost everyone.

  • Studio57

No, I see that mr- I like Strut so far but I am not entirely sure either- only because it’s Kara- BUT i really really think she wanted to redeem herself with what she did with NOBO and what better way then with AL debut album? We’ll see.

Didn’t that guitar on Sleepwalker suprise the hell out of you? Like mmb said- there HAS to be more rock influence there then they are letting on, and I am still dying to know which one Orianthi is playing on- now that I heard the guitar on Sleepwalker- it just might be that one ( cuz we all know it’s Hawkins on Music Again)

DLee- alot of people thought that last night, but I don’t know if I agree. I think they knew these ones were getting less feedback and maybe they wanted to test the waters or something, but I am certainly no expert, nor do I pretend to be :)

oceanrose- i don’t think I have ever seen people have such a differing opinion about favorite songs like people are doing here, but that’s Adam for you- he is multifaceted and people differ on what they like from him- it’s all good!

  • lucy

I thought those snippets earlier had changed my mind. Listening to these ones, looks like I’m back to my old ‘This album is meh’ self. Ugh.

I have to say, though, when I look for something really new, fresh, fascinating, out-of-the-box musically, I don’t look to people signed off American Idol by 19; I don’t look to music that’s trying to get played on HAC and CHR radio; etc.

I really don’t look to pop at all, frankly, for the really new and stunning because to me, pretty much by definition, *nothing* poppy will be that. Because if it was, it wouldn’t be popular. The alternative, the brand new, the indie only gets “popular” after it’s been around for a decade or longer or, in many cases, never ever gets popular at all.

So I don’t really get what people are saying when they criticize an Idol’s pop album for not being something stylistically and substantively brand new. Pop music never ever ever is that, so far as I can tell. If we’re looking for something very new and startling, we really need to go someplace else than pop, and definitely someplace else than fresh-off-AI pop.

  • abbysee

Very well put Lucy! Trying to find alot of weight and substance in pop music is like finding a needle in a haystack. But if folk want to keep looking, that’s fine by me. But to use that as a criticism makes me lol.

  • lucy

You want a breath of fresh air? Try Mika, or Scissor Sisters, or Florence + the Machines, or Heloise & the Savoir Faire. There are some brilliant artists out there doing this stuff a lot better.

But RCA/19 would not support a just-off-Idol person trying to make such an album. (not that I know that Adam is capable of ultimately producing stuff — he may or may not be. I *think* he probably is, given time, but whether he actually would want to work with the more cutting-edge collaborators rather than just going the pop route, I don’t know.).

In any case, though, these folks do *not* get top play on pop or HAC radio in the United States at this point. And whether we like it or not, that’s what 19/Sony expect of *any* Idol that they sign (well, they’ll accept top play on country radio also…). But anybody who looks as if they’ll go alternative or have to go indie for a while to get accepted, even somebody who might be a major major hit on urban radio or in Germany or Japan or something — They will not sign that person if they can help it. Period.

That said, I too prefer the artists you mentioned! … But if we’re looking for that off AI — Well, I’m pretty sure we’re going to have to look to one of the lower-finishing contestants who do *not* get signed by 19/Sony!

  • mr

Yep- sure was surprised about the many fierce guitars- in a great way!
I don’t know why the excitment just up and jumped me today- maybe it was waking up to these extended clips first thing in the morning- but it’s not going to be easy to contain this for about 3-4 weeks more (I pre-ordered the album- ok- 2 copies- but by the time it gets shipped here to the Middle East it’ll probably be mid-December… boohoo)
I just have this fantasy to already open the hard copy, put it in the player and listen to the whole album in high quality!
About Kara- No Boundaries will NEVER be forgotten, but for what it’s worth, I would probably be hating her much much more for that one if were a Kris fan… poor boy… Adam came out pretty unscathed, I thought, relatively speaking ofcourse :-)

  • selena

I love these new longer snippets. Actually the song Pick u up, is becoming my favorite. ( along with Fever Music Again, and Soaked)

Its an awesone song that really get you pumped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Studio57

Adam came out pretty unscathed, I thought, relatively speaking ofcourse

It still confuses the hell out of me that Kris fans even bought that record. It was kind of funny seeing his version on the charts because Adam fans were like, “Um. No thanks!”

I am so bummed too that I can’t get the album just a couple of days earlier because I have to go on a 6 hour road trip to pick up one of my kids from college and now I am going to be stuck listening to Lil Wayne and Drake on the way home. I can seriously only take them in small doses.

  • jamesd

Adam F***ing Lambert rocks my world. These longer snipets are blowing my mind. His voice, the arrangements, the lyrics are incredible.

I can’t stop listening to them. the only one I rate as just ok is IIHY-

  • aa618892

This album is turning out to be so much better than I expected. My main concern was that it would be bland and generic (it’s not, it’s exciting) that I would only like a couple of songs ( I actually looove most of them) so I am soooo happy about this music. I can’t even decide what I would love for him to sing at GMA. Can’t wait to have this album in my hands.

  • Mary102

Ok, I see we’re talking about innovation. This is my take on it – in the context of pop music and especially AI music, Adam’s album is 1000 times more innovative than most of what I hear. Seriously, previous albums like Cook’s, and even Daughtry’s were so bland and “safe” that I didn’t even buy Cook’s (and bought Daughtry’s but don’t listen to it very often). So from that standpoint, Adam’s is far more eclectic, new (mixing the old and new sounds) and dynamic than previous efforts.

That said, the last thing he really should have tried to do at this very early stage in his career is try to create something completely new and ground breaking. Even the most iconic acts often started out in a more pedestrian fashion (think the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan etc.) before really starting to experiment more and create some innovated music. Going that route would have been foolish – it’s much smarter to create some interesting, modern, potential hits. Sure they might be safer and less “out there” – but they’ll sell more units, and give him a stronger fan base for future years and albums.

  • Studio57

Oh, and mr- this should only have to contain you for 10 more days- don’t forget the AMA’s. BTW- read over on Planet Fierce that Janet Jackson is opening the show.

Ten days is not far away. I am more conviced than ever that they are holding off on promo until then ( or at least until a couple of days before). Maybe we will get little suprises like these leaks every few days to sustain us!

  • mr

Ha ha! I don’t even know who they are! They don’t play them on the radio here… (Drake and Lil Wayne)

On topic- Adam and his snippets Rock!

  • mr

Oh- that’s right- the AMAs (believe me, I never knew all of these awards existed last year, lol) Adam performing live once more!!!!!!!! Remember the time when he did it every tuesday? Me so excited!

  • Maddy

    I totally agree with Mary102 and aa618892!

  • http://littleglitterlittleglam.blogspot.com TheSpindleshay

Judging by the snippets released to HitPredictor, it seems these are the songs that they’re a bit “iffy” about – otherwise we’d have longer snippets of Soaked and Fever. That’s my guess. And if these are the weaker links, I’m prepared to have my face blown off.

And while some peeps are bemoaning the opinion that there’s nothing new or fresh about these songs, I don’t get it. This is very fresh. Fresh for a female, maybe not. Fresh for a male singer? Absolutely.

Adam is absolutely moving in a new direction – maybe not as far as some of us wanted him to take it, but he’s very gently guiding us into his new take on pop music.

I think I’ll be able to wait approximately three months for his second album now, lol.

  • becausehelives

I was reading the comments at the rolling stone article and many non AI folks are beginning to like Adam. infact some hated him just for being on AI. silly I know. so I agree with the person that said this album will not get him more AI fans but it will get him more non AI fans. Also it’s pretty clear to me that at this point Adam is trying to get these fans , not the same AI fans that have seen his pre idol, idol, and tour performances and still don’t like him cos i think he knows he’s never going to please them anyways. so good job Adam.

and yay for that spin review from reding the comments there i gather that 3 & half stars is a big deal. some killer fan is like no way he has the same rating as the killers. so way to go bb

  • universal

I would have agreed with you otherwise but then why include Music Again? All the reviewers/bloggers who have heard the entire song have loved it. Or maybe it’s because it could be a song that divides the opinions. Some fans seem to love it the most but there are also those who rate it quite low on their list.

ETA: But then again, there doesn’t seem to be a song that everyone agrees on… People seem to have very differing opinions about the favorite songs.

  • Studio57
  • Mary102

Wow – really digging Pick U Up – that one is very catchy and fun. Also really like Sleepwalker even more than before (but I liked it a lot before). I have a feeling Music Again will grow on me (not my fave now). Whataya Want and If I had You both sound better than the 30 second clips, though they still fall more in the low range of my faves from the album (though that doesn’t mean I don’t still like them!)

Very cool that all of these songs (except Sleepwalker), were my least favs from the 30 sec clips, and now they’re even better in the fuller versions!

  • Studio57

That’s the point- only people who heard the whole song said it was the best one on the record, the ones who heard the snippets have been very mixed.

  • suebrody

Morning, all. I do think that these are the songs that RCA wanted feedback. V surprised on Sleepwalker, not so much the rest (tho Music Again seems very popular). I like the others a lot or quite a bit, but I can see why they are up (the snippets weren’t very clear on what the songs sounded like). Funny with my favorite, If I Had You, was really chopped up, but I still like it a lot. I did not expect this to be a ground-breaking album. I expected it to be a solid effort, w/ lots of different sounds of songs, and that’s what we are getting. Some seem to showcase his voice more (e.g., Broken Up, Aftermath, Soaked) and some not so much, but they are, I believe, what he and the producers wanted. I hope so, anyway. I think the album will do well, and that’s all you can ask for from a first time artist, right? I am excited, at any rate, and hope the non-Idol bubble fans will be as well. I finally hear FYE on the radio, on Pro FM in Providence (seems to be in regular rotation, along with LLWD), and it fit right in. We’ll see.

And for a male artist? Yes, I think this is fresh (I mean, you have Pink, Christina Aguilera, GaGa, Katy Perry, but but what guys? I can’t think of one), at least with the dance music and the slow ballads. Maybe not the more main-stream ones (e.g., Pick U Up, Whatya Want From Me), but I like nearly all of them. And Adam was just mentioned (along with Kelly Clarkson) as being one of the starts of the AMA, so that means he *is* getting attention.

I am very hopeful this will do well. I am satisfied. I cannot wait till it’s released.

Yeah, Studio57, that pic is from his interview with that funky guy (name?) with the nail polish who talked about Guitar Hero v Rock Band. Best line: Adam doesn’t do well playing Rock Band b/c he likes to sing songs *his* way. Yep.

  • becausehelives

music again is totally ROF again. in the sense that it’s going to be love it or hate it. no in middle ground. that falsetto wail is like what he did in the middle of play that funky music. u don’t see it coming haha. it took me a couple of listens to like it then too.

  • Mary102

Oh, and also very happy that we can hear so much of Adam’s distinct voice in these songs! Sigh! I hear it and I immediately think “THAT’S ADAM!” Love it.

  • Squirrely

Whataya Want From Me has been running through my head like crazy.

Also I have been at work for 2 hours before I logged onto MJ – that is a record.

  • tinawina

Wow. Whenever I take a break for a couple of days I miss all the action!

I’m on the fence with these clips. Music Again sounds super cheesy to me, on the other hand Pick U Up might have a some promise. Still not felling the Pink song… the song is good but it sounds too much like Pink should be singing it. The whole thing sounds like a soundtrack to a Molly Ringwald movie so far.

Totally agree with lucy about pop radio… I really just expect something catchy I can sing along to. Hopefully it won’t be too cookie cutter. To me, good pop has lot of hooks, fun to sing along to, follows the basic pop formula but inserts little bits of personality and creativity somehow… but I don’t expect it to be earth shatteringly innovative.

That said, I think Adam is trying to do something different, and I respect the effort. I don’t know if it worked, but I ‘ll wait to actually hear the whole album before I decide.

  • universal

Any guesses why they would want feedback on these songs? Just to promote the album? I don’t think they are yet picking the next single? Songs for possible appearances? But if these are the ones considered “iffy”, it wouldn’t make sense to pick any of these.

  • Studio57

Countless times I screamed “Oh Brother”!

Adam’s new clips make me feel like strutting!

(By the way, the above makes me feel strange…and kinda happy!)

  • Mom in the Suburbs

Longer is better…er, I mean the song snippets, ladies! :-) They sound even better here. Love how rocked-out Sleepwalker sounds in the longer bit. Love the theatrical section of Pick U Up, can really hear the Weezer in that. Love Music Again even more every time I hear it, but I did love Queen. Love chair-dancing to If I had You. Too bad I’m way too old to ever hear it in a real club, lol.

For the next single to go to radio, I still vote Fever. That one sounds like a hit, and can you imagine the performance/video?

  • selena

I have to post again since I am absolutely loving these snippets.

My guess is that all the songs on the album were tested to a target audience, and these were simply the ones that leaked. Having worked in Marketing for a large corporation, we would NEVER conduct market research on a few select products. All were tested- how else could you determine preferences??

Pick U Up, and Music Again are my favorites from these new snippets:

  • Chicagolaw

Still so much fun! Loving the clips—especially Pick U Up! Also really liking Sleepwalker, and Music Again is so fun. Now I just need to hear Fever, Broken Open, and Soaked.

  • selena

That a good point koshka- you could be onto something….
Hell, I’ll take any of them (except IIHY)

  • alaadam

Loved Sleepwalker. Keep repeating it. I also like Pick U Up and What Do You Want from Me. I don’t really like Music Again as much. It is probably my least favorite. Can’t wait to hear Strut, Fever, and Broken Open. I wish they would leak soon!

  • suebrody

Does anyone like IIHU or just me? :(

BTW, MA doesn’t sound like RoF to me, but YMMV (and seems to. ;) ). WWFM (trying w/ the acronyms) and PUU sounds much better than before, and Sleepwalker, of course, still rocks my little world.

  • unique28v

  • CCAdamFan

Seriously, Slezak said Pick U Up was his *least* fave snippet (from the shorter ones)? I LOVE this song!!! LOVE it! Maybe Slezak will like it better with the longer clip. And I really like Music Again. I can hear the Springfield, MJ! lol! I saw Rick Springfield and Cory Hart in concert back in, like, 1984. Can’t wait to have the whole album (11 more days!). And dangit, my hubby WILL like some of these songs! lol! Even if he does not want to admit it!

  • Studio57

suebrody- I love IIHU! That and PUU I totally changed my mind on with the extended clips- still iffy about WWFM.

  • 4Msrmyn

suebrody-I’m with you! Why is everyone else dising it? Have we really heard enough or is this provisional dislike?

  • Chicagolaw

While I was liking the 30 sec. snippet for PUU; the longer clip makes it seem like a whole different song in the absolute best way. Now you can totally hear the Rivers Cuomo vibe, and I seriously love the bridge.

The only song I don’t really care for is IIHY, which is exactly how I felt after the short clip. But, strangely, a couple people I know who aren’t huge Adam fans are really liking it, so, who knows.

Another thing that strikes me is just how awesome these songs are going to sound live.

  • mr

Oh I know I know! The bridge from PUU- isn’t it a little “Sweany Todd”ish??? Can’t put my finger on which song exactly, but it sounds like Zhondheim (spelling?)- who says Adam isn’t innovative? I dare you to say it to my face! Ha! Kidding, kidding…. I’m a little over enthusiastic today- I’ve posted 10 times more than usual today… Well- the weekend’s about to start for me, so that might explain it also (our resting days are Friday & Saturday, not Sat&Sun- so my weekend is starting in approximately half an hour, hee hee)…

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

I just read through this entire thread, which these days is unusual for me, but I love Adam and wanted to read others’ opinions about these five longer clips. I love how many different opinions people have about the same songs. I think that bodes well for sales for him. I love that Spin mag took the time to review his stuff. I love the latest RS interview and his conversation about how he and Gaga recorded Fever with some whiskey thrown in for good measure. I knew there was a reason I liked that song the best. I’m sorry it wasn’t included in these longer clips, but oh well.

So, I think Adam delivered on what he said he said he was going to do. If anything, I’m excited that each song sounds less like FYE than the last. I do not like electro-pop. But there is FYE stuck in my head, along with IIHY and that tiny snip of Fever. I also really like Music Again and SFW. Actually, surprisingly, I like all of them to varying degrees.

And , because his voice is the unifying thing on this album, I will thoroughly enjoy my collector’s edition when it shows up on 11/23. I think this first effort has exactly what it needs to take him to a place where he can create his next album, with more time to do so.

I may not absolutely love every song on FYE, but so what? I love Melissa Etheridge, but I do not love all her songs or even all of her albums. Same for every musician or band that I adore, even the Grateful Dead, and I’m pretty hardcore when it comes to Jerry Garcia. Expecting to love every single song a musician puts out just because I love his/her voice is expecting too much, I think.

I love the rides in AdamLand and I intend to stick around for more of the fun. Thanks for posting the clips, MJ.

These are awesome! Love his voice on the lover note Studio57! The lyrics on this CD seem to fit Adam to a T! I am thankful everyday that I went channel surfing last March! Adam Rocks!

  • mr

And i also love If I had you, Suebrody! I can def. see myself dancing to it in various clubs and parties… It totally rocks (dances???) If it has success here, something tells me I might actually agree to go out with my friends to clubs when they ask me- I might even start dragging THEM at some point, lol!

  • GaGaGlambert

…that pic is from his interview with that funky guy (name?) with the nail polish who talked about Guitar Hero v Rock Band.

Terrific interview. It’s Steve “Frosty” Weintraub from http://www.collider.com http://www.collider.com/2009/11/10/adam-lambert-exclusive-video-interview-2012/

ADAM LAMBERT: [sings awesome music awesomely. sings awe--]

M* F*ING MONTH OF NOVEMBER: Yo, Adam, I’m happy for you, an Imma let you finish, but first Imma drive your fans batshit crazy by leaking awesome snippets that DON’T finish just so they’ll salivate all over me. That’s just the way I am.

  • listen

Pick U Up has become a new favorite, I think because Adam’s voice is more prominent in this than the others, more “singing” is going on in this clip….
He gets to show more of his “voice” in this and users a wider range than in the other clips (lower range especially)

    Sleepwalker was always a favorite

  • Maddy

Love his voice on the lover note Studio57! I love that part too. I like IIHY. I didn’t think I would from the 30 second clip but it’s fun and catchy. I forgot to blockquote that first sentence.

  • Mary102

Oh I know I know! The bridge from PUU- isn’t it a little ‘Sweany Todd’ ish??? Can’t put my finger on which song exactly, but it sounds like Zhondheim (spelling?)-

Hmm – well I may be one of the biggest Sondheim fanatics EVAH (will seriously go all the way to NYC just to see revivals of Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park, Company, etc.) I didn’t hear ST when I first heard PUU (hate that acronymn btw ;-) ) But let me listen again to see if I get that feel too…brb.

ETA: mr, I can definitely get a bit of ST vibe now in the “theatrical bridge” – especially how it slows down a bit. Really love it :-)

  • aa618892

I am just loving (and hating at the same time) that we still have all the ballads to look forward to coming out in longer snippets. Oh, and there is still Strut, SFW, Fever and the bonus tracks.. SOOO much Adam goodness to look forward to.

  • 4Msrmyn

I missed most of the excitement over the longer song clips yesterday. I killed my second laptop since May. Family members don’t like sharing, you’d think I asked to share their toothbrush!
I still like all the songs. I’ve tried to think of a song he sang I don’t like. Nope, there isn’t one. Does anyone not like any of the old songs? Just wondering, if you are really are going to dislike any of these songs.

  • Mary102

Does anyone like IIHU or just me?

I like IIHU way more in the fuller version. You know, I actually prefer the verses in this one to the chorus. The chorus is fun and catchy, don’t get me wrong, but the verses kick it up a notch for some reason.

  • 8sourcandy

I would have assumed that on the heels of the up tempo “For Your Entertainment” dance track, Adam’s next release would have been a ballad. Judging by the leak of these songs, and ONLY these songs, I suspect Adam wants the second release to have a more mainstream vibe with its roots and credibility firmly planted in rock/pop. I would have liked “Soaked” or “Loaded Smile” to be the second single. But if he plans to release it before the holidays, something more up tempo would probably be better received. Saving the darker, more introspective songs for after the new year seems like a good strategy. My pick (out of these) would be “Pick U UP,” it has a lush, sweeping vocal balanced by an infectious beat. The Rivers Cuomo connection lends “cred” and the over-all sound is very radio friendly.

Wow, Adam songs are amazing, I love his voice!!!

I love them all, but from these 5, my favorite is SW :-)

Listening one after the other while working.

  • Winks8

Speaking of releasing the next single…. what’s “normal” for number of single releases from a successful album? And how often?

It seems different artists are all over the place in terms of realeasing singles, but I just feel like there are so many hits on this album that he could be releasing singles every couple of months for the next year or longer. Is that realistic?

On another note, I put the longer snippets on my iPod and listened to them on the way to work. These five longer snippets are very anthemy and it was fun to have them blasting out of my car speakers. Beautiful morning, windows down, felt like I was 16! :-)

Does anyone like IIHU or just me?

I do- to a ridiculous degree.
And that fact both baffles and amuses me as I have always been a rock person- I hear this one termed europop which is totally something I wouldn’t think I would like.
    But I do :)

I like them all- none that I hate. Some are currently “less favorites” but in my experience those can be some of the ones I grow to love the deepest.
    Musical taste is wacky!

  • Oksana2000

I absolutely love, love, love Sleepwalker.
I hope that I am not the only one.
This could be a mega hit.
    (Please, God if you make it a #1 I’ll quit smoking..:(o )

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

Well, I’ll admit it. The chorus to “If I Had You” has been playing in my head all friggin’ morning. Last night it was “Whaddya Want From Me.” And I only listened to the snippets once – last night!

While I can appreciate the music not being everyone’s cuppa, I’m finding the songs to have definite hooks. I could see “Sleepwalker” as a single – whether next or third, not sure. But it clearly sounds like a Tedder production (TM) and since that seems to be a successful formula for the other artists he’s written for, I’d go with it. I’m stuck on predicting another single though…”Fever”? WWFM? IIHY? Not feeling “Music Again” as a single – too polarizing. “Pick U Up” is growing on me, the bridge now gives me the Weezer feel that was missing from the 30 second clip.

Gosh, I like them all just like Buderschnookie! 10 more days…10 more days…10 more days…

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

    Musical taste is wacky!

Lol! Yes, ma’am! It’s almost a shame that, in this age of digital downloads, people aren’t listening to entire albums like they used to. I remember buying CDs because I loved the artist or loved one or two of the singles. It was always a surprise to find other tracks that really grew on me, to the point of obsession.

Anyway, I’m loving Pick U Up even more this morning. Oh, and that’s my 6 degrees separation to Adam! Scott Shriner’s dad owns a drum store in my town, and my son is a drummer. Over the years, we’ve been in the store quite often. So, let’s see: Scott’s Dad-Scott-Rivers Cuomo-Adam. 4 degrees! Whoohoooooo!

    Carry on.

  • lucy

For more evidence — if needed — that Jive and RCA handle rollouts way differently — Adam’s album now has clips up at Amazon, while Kris’s, due out a week earlier, doesn’t yet. …. I wonder whether the companies have actually thought through their strategies or whether they just throw stuff at walls to see if it sticks, lol.

  • lucy

I would have liked ‘Soaked’ or ‘Loaded Smile’ to be the second single.

Am I missing something? Because I can’t imagine pop radio playing either of these. Like, ever. …. Or is that just me?

  • Bowie1

Suebrody I like IIHY…it’s catchy and makes me want to dance to it. I’m loving ‘Music Again’….I’m hearing some Queen sound in it and I wanting to hear more of the guitar (love it!). I love all the song snippets but wish we could have heard the longer verisons for ‘Fever’ and ‘Strut’. Maybe will get some more leaks soon.

I’m going to go back and read comments now. The guys coming tonight to get my computer running again…luckily I could get my Adam news (thanks MJ) here even if I had to go to the library computer to log on!

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

You know Zsus, I must be that rare bird that actually makes playlists on my iPod consisting of…albums. LOL. The only playlist that isn’t an album is my Adam collection and only cuz he doesn’t yet have an album. It’s always been my preference to listen to an album all the way through, even if there are songs that are so-so.

  • miss_marisa

I think making Soaked the single would be very dangerous …..

becuase of people getting in car wrecks when it came on the radio. People are not prepared for that kind of awesomeness when driving!

  • lucy

I remember buying CDs because I loved the artist or loved one or two of the singles. It was always a surprise to find other tracks that really grew on me, to the point of obsession.

I still do this. Even do it frequently when I buy digitally, lol.

I guess i should change my name to pterodactyl or something. But I like to give artists a chance to take me someplace that they know about and I don’t know about yet.

Buying only singles all the time would be like picking what chapter of a novel I want to read and ignoring the rest of the book, to me. I don’t like this world of disaggregated media where you never look at something unless it reflects what you already knew you wanted to see or hear or what you believed already. Seems to me that I would still have the exact same tastes and mindset that I had at age seven or thereabouts if media had been that way throughout my life. I’m glad there are Adam songs that I’m not sure I’ll love yet. I look forward to having him show me those songs in full, actually.

I love Music again. He does make me want to listen to music again. I am so glad. I love the guitar in this song.

Pick U Up. All my life Iv’e been waiting. WHERE ARE YOU, I NEED SOMEONE TO BE MY LOVERRRRRRRRRRR. I just love this song.
Sleepwalker. Eyes wide shut.. This has a great beat. And I love the guitar in this song also.

  • lucy

I think you are missing something but that is just me, Soaked is my favorite snippet!

Oh, I *love* Soaked … I just can’t imagine hearing it on any radio station that I’m familiar with…. Do you think they’d play it on pop radio? HAC? AC? Rock? Where?

I’m aware that the DC radio stations are very very crappy and narrow-minded, I must say ….

Here’s how Supermassive Black Hole (okay, I know it’s not just like Soaked, but both have that Muse vibe, seems to me) has charted, from Wikipedia:

    Chart (2006) Peak
    UK Singles Chart 4
    Australian Singles Chart 34
    Danish Singles Chart 7
    Dutch Singles Chart 39
    Finnish Singles Chart 10
    French Singles Chart 51
    Irish Singles Chart 16
    Italian Singles Chart 9
    Swiss Singles Chart 33
    Chart (2007) Peak
US Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks 6

So, I ask again, where would be the U.S. radio play for Soaked, other than a handful of alt stations somewhere?

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

“Buying only singles all the time would be like picking what chapter of a novel I want to read and ignoring the rest of the book, to me.”

I agree! Now, I admit to doing this with artists I have no real interest outside maybe a peppy little song I happen to catch on the radio that would be great to run to. (*sigh* Yes. I actually bought Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” just for that purpose. DO NOT MOCK ME!! :) ) Most of the time, particularly with quality artists who don’t get a lot of airplay because they aren’t single writers, I buy the whole album.

But, I admit that I miss the days when FM radio was about albums, and not singles. You could turn on your AM station and listen to top pop hits all day long. But, FM was where you went for the really cool music. Now, FM stations have gone pop/Top 40/Oldies and even – *gasp* – talk and sports. One of our best alt-rock stations in our area suddenly switched to Sports talk radio without warning. It was like WTF!!! But, I have a few friends in radio, and they say, “That’s where the money is. Talk, oldies, syndication.” *sigh* (Of course, our one good friend has been in sales and marketing at our local KIIS for years, and he REFUSES to acknowledge that radio is dying. He’s always all, “You need to take a look at our ratings! And just wait until everyone gets HD!!!” Okey dokey.)

OK. Back to Adam. I think Loaded Smile might end up being my favorite, but I’ll have to hear the entire thing. But, no way is that or Soaked Top 40 material. Those are songs, as I said upthread, that people who buy the album, will listen to and say, “Wow! Love this!!”

  • saga

Still loving PUU, especially the chorus and the bridge. Sleepwalker seems like a favourite. If they released these to get a feel what to use for the second single then I am disappointed they didn’t release STRUT and FEVER. From the snippets I would have picked STRUT as a second single and maybe sleepwalker as the third. PUU and Fever seems to be possible single choices if you wanna play a bit out of the box.

Hey executives, leak Fever and Strut and we’ll decide for you!

  • josielord

Bwaahahhha just for that YOU ARE BANNED

  • JAG

Coming out of lurkdom to add my two cents. I’m blown away by Sleepwalker, Adam’s vocals are stunning and the guitar solo is out of this world. So far I love every track on the album,a first for me . The fun,the funk, the glitz and the glamor is back . As soon as I have the album in hand I’m going into hibernation ,just FYE & me lol !

Very much do I like IIHU and I am surprised. I love the melody, lyrics and the do di di ditta ditta do.

I really need a lesson in some of these newer acronyms. Haven’t been able to figure out YMMV and now what is WWFM, please tell? Thanks :)

  • Maddy

Beehiway- I think YMMV means Your Mileage May Vary WWFM is What Do You Want From Me.

  • beehiway

So sorry but I can’t read through the whole thread. Of course I love Adam and I loved all of the 30 sec snippets. The longer snippets have not changed my mind at all, love the songs even more. Can’t pick a favorite. Each one has a verse, melody, chorus, or hook that stays with me.

Cannot wait for the album to listen to the full HQ production on a good stereo system.

  • beehiway

Thank you Maddy. I didn’t read it carefully enough to realize she was talking about one of the songs.

I wonder how that works, zzatrms. I think labels know that there is going to be a certain amount of idl going on, no matter what they do. I guess it’s the nature of the business, now, and they must find new ways to make a profit off of their artists. But, it’s way beyond me what they can do about it. I’m done scolding my nieces and nephews (and my own son) for idl. They honestly act as if it’s no big deal. There seems to be this whole generation of music consumers who will be damned if they’re going to pay for the music they put on their iPods.

If by “clips” you mean samples/snippets you’re mistaken. Kris has them too under his album photo. This is the first time Adam had ANY and Kris had them a couple weeks ago streaming on AOL and Adam didn’t.

Adam’s album shot to number one on pre order at Amazon so it makes sense that he’d have “clips” but he didnt’ either until actually today.

However it is fun for me to read all of the critiques and descriptions of these songs that I haven’t heard. I have little imaginary versions of them running in my head now.

But see, now you won’t have the joy of re-learning all the songs! I can’t believe you have the fortitude to hold out like this…very admirable, yet in some strange way indicative of a serious illness (which one, I’m not yet sure, but that you have it is certain). ;)

I love everything that I’ve heard so far and am really looking forward to this album. I like but I think that I’ll be somewhat less enthusiastic about Sure Fire Winners and Aftermath but I’d be hard pressed to pick any favorites from all the rest. This is shaping up to be an excellent album. And not just by “bubble” standards. The bubble has definitely burst. (Sorry for the cliche. God I really hate that “idol bubble” phrase and now I’ve just gone and kinda used it… twice)

But I’m with beehiway … hoping that people won’t get too carried away with the acronyms. Thank heavens for one word song titles cuz there are gonna be sixteen songs from this album, there are fourteen from American Idol, two more from the tour and about five from the days of almost total obscurity. And that’s a lot of song acronyms to digest alongside a sea of internet slang. I can figure it all out but it slows down my processing (brain and thread), if you know what I mean.

  • beehiway

Will: However it is fun for me to read all of the critiques and descriptions of these songs that I haven’t heard. I have little imaginary versions of them running in my head now

I too am impressed and yet concerned about this ability to stay away from the snippets. Although, this ability to “delay gratification” is a predictor of academic success. Hmmm. Serious illness and academic success … there are some unsettling correlations in there.

  • will

I have actually never before been aware of this “snippets” phenomenon before following MJ’s. I guess I can see the value of it for somebody who is really doubtful or on the fence about purchasing an album, but not for those who know they will be buying it or have already. The first snippet I ever listened to was the one for TFM, and that experience convinced me never to listen to one again, since it really gave a very skewed and inaccurate first impression (it was mostly of the subdued opening verse).

It kind of disappoints me that Slezak and Cantiello wrote full-fledged reviews of the snippets. I think it is likely to unfairly color their upcoming reviews of the album, since they’ve already basically committed themselves to to their opinions of these songs based on random 30-second excerpts. It’s human nature that they’ll want to hang onto and justify those opinions once the album is released. The whole thing seems slightly insane to me.

  • http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com rowenaaine

I really don’t want FYE to stream. But if it does, I will resist. I am off the whole week of 11/23 for Thanksgiving anyway, and I intend to dedicate 11/23 to listening to the album over and over and over and…well, you get the idea. After the AMAs on the 22nd, maybe I’ll start listening at midnight when FYE becomes available on iTunes (is that when you can download your pre-order?), but then I will run like a banshee to my mailbox around 10 AM to rip off the celophane to listen to my CE! More bonus tracks! Pictures! Oh, it’s gonna be a happy day!

ETA: Will, I totally understand where you’re coming from. Not sure I’ve listened to snippets other than on a couple of tracks on iTunes when I was trying to decide if I wanted a whole album from someone or just a couple of songs. Never listened to clips from an unreleased album before. Didn’t even know you could until now!

  • NewFan

  • wand3rful

Sleepwalker sounds like a big mess. And yup, i do hear faint similarities of the track to Halo. Ryan needs a big vacation from himself, imo. Music Again is the only one that stands out of this particular bunch. the rest arent catchy enough and his voice (again, my main issue w. all the recordings) gets lost in the production.

Hmm, they are pretty clear about what they are reviewing…the snippets only. Thus when time comes to review the album, they are free to differ from their “initial” reaction. I just dont follow your point. This is nothing new to the world of music or Idol….journalists have been reviewing snippets, then albums for some time. And their opinions sometimes do ochange and sometimes they are reaffirmed.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

I always listen to snippets before I buy an album. They’re standard at iTunes and Amazon (once the album is actually released). They aren’t perfect, but it’s a good way to gauge if I really want to invest ten bucks or if I just want to buy that one single that I love from the radio. However, as I said earlier, sometimes, you miss out on some real gems – the music that can’t be captured in a 30 second snippet and the song that grows on you with repeated listenings.

I’m really pleased that Adam’s getting solid reviews.

  • JulesJules

Just got in from work and haven’t caught up yet but the first thing I look at now in Mediabase..I think I’m addicted!

It says that up until yesterday KLLY in Bakersfield had given FYE the most spins to date at 45 with WPLJ in second place with 38. Where’s Bakersfield? Is it a big place?

My first weigh-in on the longer snippets. The only song I wasn’t too crazy about from the first snippets was Music Again. I like it much better this go round. Definitely reminds me of Queen, and that’s a good thing.

I think my favorite of the non-ballads) has to be If I Had You. I was big into Disco (telling my age now) and still listen to Dance Music a lot. Just wish there were people/places near to me where this is popular. To me, If I Had You should be the next single. It is infectious and is a feel-good, happy-sounding song.

But, FTR, I love, love this batch of music!!!! Not a bad one in the bunch.

If by ‘clips’ you mean samples/snippets you’re mistaken. Kris has them too under his album photo. This is the first time Adam had ANY and Kris had them a couple weeks ago streaming on AOL and Adam didn’t.

Adam’s album shot to number one on pre order at Amazon so it makes sense that he’d have ‘clips’ but he didnt’ either until actually today.

Wow, I didn’t even see that teensy little thing under Kris’s photo! For both of them, I was looking for the big old honkin’ list that Amazon usually puts up right smack dab in the middle of the page where I can’t miss it …. And, as you mention, I saw that for Adam for the first time today. ….

But now I’m still wondering — Why don’t they put Kris’s in the usual old obvious Amazon spot instead of just giving you, like, three words to click on way up by the picture. I have totally missed this until today! And I still think that it might be a difference between the labels — like Jive and RCA sending them the snippets in a different format or something. I really totally missed Kris’s and I’ve been looking. Is it usual for some artists to have only a link to click on to get the snippets? I thought there was always a big section on the main page … Is this a new thing?

(P.S. Is “clips” really the wrong word to use? I thought I’d seen it used a lot more often than “snippets” and about as much as “samples” (which has another musical meaning as well, of course…)

There seems to be this whole generation of music consumers who will be damned if they’re going to pay for the music they put on their iPods.

Wonder how they’ll like it when nobody ever writes a song again but only writes ringtones.

This is nothing new to the world of music or Idol’ ¦.journalists have been reviewing snippets, then albums for some time. And their opinions sometimes do ochange and sometimes they are reaffirmed.

Like I said, it’s new to me. I’m really not that much of a pop-music person in general, so I guess I’ve been sheltered. To me, it’s the equivalent of a movie critic giving a film a thumbs up or down based on the trailer. Some bloggers and writers do review trailers, but it’s done mostly tongue-in-cheek.

They aren’t perfect, but it’s a good way to gauge if I really want to invest ten bucks or if I just want to buy that one single that I love from the radio.

I totally understand that point. But Slezak and Cantiello aren’t consumers who need to make that decision. And a good many of the peeps here are die-hard fans where that isn’t a factor either. But hey, I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer here. Glad you’re all having fun!

I purchase most of my music through Amazon (and sometimes through iTunes — but I like the physical CDs) and I’ve always “previewed” an album if at all possible. I even go to the extreme of searching high and low on youtube to listen to entire songs to make sure I will like them. Of course with new albums that doesn’t work. But all that being said, I’m with you on critiques being written up based on samplings. It’s pretty unfair to judge a song based only on parts of it. Just the difference between the 30 sec clips and these longer ones is really huge — like who knew there would be an awesome guitar solo in Sleepwalker? (Personally, FWIW, I think the whole album will be epic, but that’s just my opinion of course). I’m also not big on surprises, so I like having a good idea of what I’m buying. :)

Of course to each their own, and really I do admire your “will”-power and hope you didn’t take my friendly ribbing the wrong way!

Oh, good! I have the most difficult time being serious, especially about music and other forms of entertainment, but not everyone gets my twisted sense of humor! LOL

But Slezak and Cantiello aren’t consumers who need to make that decision.

Oh, Will! I totally agree with you here. I know that real reviews are based on entire songs, not snippets. But, if you don’t have access to them, and you write a column that’s to do with Idol, I guess you need to take what you can get.

I’m not sure how others use album reviews, but in the entertainment magazines, I tend to use them only as a source to see what’s available out there. I don’t care if People Magazine gives so-and-so 5 stars, and this other artist 3 1/2. It’s too subjective. In fact, I rarely read the reviews. I just flip through the pages of EW, People, or Us and get a quick view of what the music world has to offer that particular week. I have a feeling I’m not alone, and that the reviews are, in the entertainment magazines, more promotion than anything else. Now, if an album gets universally panned or is winning high praise all over, I might take more notice. So, I guess in the case of Slezak or Jim, 30 seconds snippets? Full songs? Makes no difference to me.

BTW, per Twitter, Adam is shooting his FYE video on Sunday at The Alexandria in Hollywood. If that’s true, here’s the locale:

Will…I just want to tell you what a great asset you are to this blog. I want SUNN back. If you read this SUNN I want you to know you are missed. On another note, while my husband was in Africa there was a Portugese commercial on and guess who was singing in the background….Yep….Adam Lambert…Mad World. Love every one of the snippets on this album. Music Again is my favorite.

  • will

Thanks so much flashus, that’s very flattering.

Wow, now that you mention it, Sunn is MIA. Hope all is well with her.

I listened to the longer snippets last night and no surprise, I’m happy. His voice is front and center, even through the distortions of the snippets (I guess to make them not easy to pirate.)

Music Again – I loved the original snippet. Love the longer one even more. Can’t wait to hear the guitar work when I get the CD. The sound was a little fuzzy to me due to the medium presented, but Adam’s voice was fabulous. The song made me bop my head up and down and got my ass moving. Love it. Definitely seems like our Adam.

Whataya Want From Me – Love his voice in this song. The short snippet seemed too much like Pink, but this longer version seems more Adam-ish to me. I really like it and think he could have a hit with this single. I love the lines about not giving up on him and he won’t disappoint. Since he said in the EW article, that this song resonated with him as also a message to his fans, it meant even more to me. Love it.

Pick U Up – LOL, another one I love the longer snippet of than the short one. I love this part of the lyrics the best:

    Tiny-minded, two-tone suckers
Same old faces make me shudder
Countless times I’ve screamed, ‘Oh, brother’

I sometimes resemble those sentiments completely and want to sing (say) them too. His voice when singing that segment is theatrical and I love it.

Sleepwalker – I loved the snippet, love the longer snippet. I don’t hear the Tedder stuff you referenced, but then again, I’m not as familiar with One Republic and his stuff as you all are, apparently. Adam’s voice makes this song unique, IMO, but I understand mileage varies. I think this song could be a hit and I love that Aimee Ma
