Here it is…the cover art for Adam Lambert’s upcoming album, For Your Entertainment.

It’s Sparkly! Otherworldly! Adam has landed from the Planet Fierce to lay some sick beats on y’all. Heh.   I can’t wait to see where the Michelin Man fits into all this…

…shades of Blake Lewis hmm…

For Your Entertainment will be available everywhere November 23.

A GLITTERY ALIEN FROM PLANET FIERCE.

  • KenzTK

Gosh..this is bad. It’s almost satire. I hope this doesn’t reflect the music because Adam is MAD talented.

  • elw

    Not what I expected.

    Yikes!

I LOVE THIS COVER HE IS SO BEAUTIFUL LOOK AT HIS EYES.

  • amiroamor

    Sorry but I hate it

  • GlamGlitter

He looooks like a fairy prince..ss. And I love it. The whole Bowie medley was ACTUALLY a tease for the album cover! <3

  • aa618892

Wow! This man loves to stir shit up! A love it or hate it cover, nothing in between for Adam! I am in the love it camp.

  • Gigi3

    Not what I expected.

    EXACTLY what I expected.

  • sr4mjc

I’m strapped in to the roller coaster. whee!!!! This Adam ride is fun.

I love the balls this kid has. Just like on the show. Go Big or Go Home!

  • Truthiness

    Not of goodness.

No parts of that are good. Ugh.

    Even the font sucks.

Oh, I long for self-titled albums with black and white photos this point.

The only good thing I can say about this is that it’s still better than that Michelin Man Meets Bob’s Boy picture, and that’s all I’ve got to day about this that’s nice right now.

    Blech.

I love Adam. Not sure I like the cover. I think it’s a good pic of him, but not sure that it is the best face to put out to the general public. A little too androgynous for me.

  • Gigi3

When I heard they were using glow in the dark make-up at the shoot, this is sort of what I imagined.

  • schufly

Hmmmm…. Not so sure about this. Love Adam, and it is a pretty picture, but my first reaction is WTF????? So many other gorgeous photos to choose – why this one? I am afraid that it will not serve the album well from a marketing standpoint.

  • CindyM

I love this album cover. It’s Adam. It’s different, it’s androgynous, it’s ethereal, I love it. He looks gorgeous. Love the graphics for the “For Your Entertainment” title.

Album cover revealed on adamofficial.com. Glam is back!!!6 minutes ago from Echofon

    His tweet!

  • Natasha

Got to give him major props. It’s gutsy.

It’s totally Bowie-esque and actually, I love it.

  • zuper

    Nooooooooooooooo!

Please let this be the only bad decision connected with this album.

  • chjohnson34

They got the glam look down but I don’t care for the pose and not being able to see any clothes!

  • vanjess38

Oh Nooooo! Why do this to Adam? Jive did a good job this time around.
    Geesh!

  • cheese

My eyes! My eyes! He looks like a Bratz doll.

  • Niall

I keep reading that people are shocked and it wasn’t what they expected. Haven’t you SEEN the Zodiac show stuff?! I fully expected him to glam up on the cover, to go with the dance pop Lady GaGa/Madonna type music he’s probably recorded. He’s harkening back to Ziggy Stardust and 80′s New Wave. I can’t figure out what people were expecting, James Dean or something?

It does look like the same background that was used for Blake’s ADD cd. I guess Adam is going for the same love it or hate it reaction. For me, it’s what I expected and it suits Adam well.

  • Lynneville

Keep looking, it may grow on you. The more I look at it the less feminine it gets. And you know that they stared at these pics for a looooong time.

  • jpfan

Okay, now I see the Blake Lewis unicorn background. That’s a little disturbing. I kind of dig the ridiculousness of it. I’m assuming they were going for total camp.

  • mrskiddens

    Absolutely Adam, absolutely gorgeous.

I love it because I want to be entertained, not lulled to sleep.

    Bravo!!!

Yikes! I LOVE Adam, but his cover’ ¦not so much. He looks way too feminine. It isn’t the make-up so much, but the air brushing, his expression, the way his hand lays on his face, the way his lips are parted’ ¦’ ¦idk, maybe just the combination of it all. Oh well, I guess it doesn’t really matter. It’s the music that counts.

  • SparklesATL

    Helloooooooooooooooooooo Photo Shop!

That’s not an actual photo is it? It sorta looks like a piece of fan art. That’s fa-art for short.

Well, he said some of his fans are smelly. :P

I can’t wait for the album. It’s not what’s on the wrapper, it’s what’s on the inside.

  • mmb

In the immortal words of Nancy Kerrigan “Whhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyy”!!!!!

  • mgk

OMG, the audacity of this is hilarious! I love it, and it should definitely attract attention!

  • JKL

    WHAT.

    That’s not Glam, that’s…cheesy neo-disco!!

The font, the photoshop, everything is so cheap.

It’s so, sooooo bad because it doesn’t match his talent.

    What were they thinking lol????

  • girlygirl

Not what I expected at all. I don’t love or hate it. At least it’s better than that Michelin Man photo.

  • clearone

…and I was worried that we’d get the Michelin Man cover. I would take that over this.

Adam you might be gay but you’re not a woman …… sigh. Hopefully the inside artwork is better so I can switch the cover around.

I guess I’ve got to wonder why he’s afraid to put himself on the cover.

  • holeighannie

Oh…my lord. I’m sorry, but I just don’t get it…this looks like something a fan photoshopped together. Emphasis on the photoshop, cuz he barely looks human.

However, I may try and do my eyes like that for Halloween, they’re pretty.

  • saga

I laughed when I saw the picture because … I just don’t know what to think. He is balancing between feminine and masculine here. He is not just flirting with a feminine look, it’s VERY ambigious. Weird, gutsy, tasteless? I don’t know.

  • kmra

Good thing few people actually buy the hard copies of CDs these days. I like Adam fine, but this cover looks like it belongs in an earlier decade.

  • 4evrmomof4

com’on everyone, you can’t be surprised– the Bowie t-shirts, the Bowie medley, the blue eyeshadow, the glitter

I always suspected that his Zodiac show persona was the ‘real’ Adam the artist- if you re-watch CIGC on Zodiac show, not that much different

This is the essence of glam rock, plus the cover has an etheral quality to it, like he is in outer space- he captured the ‘Glittery Alien from Planet Fierce’ vibe

Not your typical dull Idol cover, YIPPEE!!!

I love artists who follow their vision….

  • oceanarose

First look I wasn’t sure. Second look I love it! It is gorgeous. Totally different which is what he says his music will be so why not the cover to match? I can see why some won’t like the “femininity” of the pic. Adam is sure going for it though and just like everything else about Adam it seems to be a love it or hate it thing. Always pushing the boundaries.

  • KenzTK

I was expecting it to be dark..not fairy-like.

  • Kirsten

Ding! Ding! I think we have a winner in the Most-Photoshopped-Idol-Winner-Album-Cover Ever award. Holy Smokes, is there anything they liked about his face?

It looks like they took a picture of Pink and photoshopped some black hair on her.

Well, Blake doesn’t have to worry about having the most mocked album cover anymore. So, Blake is doing a snoopy dance right now.

  • Niall

It also reminds me a bit of the movie/musical Xanadu.

  • Michelle

Sorry, but LOL forever. Tied w/Blake’s ADD cover (and I do love Blake, so it’s not personal)

  • Ceddies

I love Adam, but I have to say “he did a number on me with this cover”. It’s beautiful but looks like something from The Young and Restless soap opera. I hope it grows on me, as I have preordered it. Regardless of the cover, the songs are what’s going to buy me. Definitely think it will turn lots of people off unless they are heavily invested as most of us are.

  • aa618892

The anti-american idol! LOL! What did he say “I will surprise you”. I love this guy! This guy has more balls than the NFL!

  • LoveDaRocker

    Oh my. That’s … just … not … good.
Of course, the most important element is the music, and I think that will be awesome.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

I love it. Very Bowie-esque. Love the blue hair, the adrogenous face, beautifully sculpted face. I think it’s very “Adam.”

  • auntieaimee

WTF? Is this really it? ROFL!

  • sma11ie

RCA covers don’t seem to capture people very well. Can’t they make a glam cover without making Adam look so feminine? From seeing him on TV, on tour, the RS cover, etc., Adam’s always come off as glam but very masculine. This cover seems very unlike him in real life, kinda like David’s cover didn’t look like him either. Like I said in the headlines, DC looked like he wants to punch you in the face, while Adam looks like he wants to do your makeup. DC’s cover could’ve stood to be a little prettier, Adam’s could’ve been a little less pretty. That said, Adam’s cover is well done, artistically speaking, and a good pop album cover. He looks like a cross between Pink and Lady Gaga.

  • christyo

Well we will have to consider this another brilliant move by Adam. Once again he will have everyone talking about this album cover. While I LOVE Adam..I do not like this cover one bit. Why does he feel the need to look like a girl? Is he really trying to distance himself from his female fans? So disappointing, but not unexpected. What a ride he is taking us on!!

  • 4Msrmyn

I HAD TO USE MY INHALER

  • suebrody

Still not liking it, people. Will try all night, but I don’t.

And yet…I don’t care. I am buying it. Will those outside the bubble give it a chance? Dammit, I hope so.

TPTB stepped out of the way this time. Good feelings about the album, in any case…

Yeah, I wanted James Dean!Adam. That was HOT HOT HOT for me. Was that too masculine?

Okay, will stare some more…am still in shock…

Kirsten and Niall, CRACK ME THE HELL UP.

  • FifthHouseSun

    Even the font sucks.

    Totally.

    Emasculation is not sexy.

Not feeling Ziggy Stardust. Or Velvet Goldmine. Or anything other than how or why would they strip all the masculinity off such a smoldering sex symbol.

Adrodgeny is sexy. This, IMHO, has no balancing and enticing masculine edge mixed in. It borders on drag. Plus no idea, innovation, or anything. Not interesting. Or controversial. Or thought provoking. Other than: Why? YMMV

Maybe inside is the other side – The All Testosterone Adam Picture. At least that would have some concept behind it. Something.

And, really, what were they thinking with those fonts? Two pedestrian choices. Some kind of really bad typographical solution to, well, half of us wanted self-title, but then, we compromised with making his name bigger, perhaps?

    Expected so much more.

  • joeyd3164

I’ve never bought a CD because of the cover .. If I want the person’s CD I buy it .. I don’t say oh wow nice cover so CD has to be good!

And what made anybody in the world believe there was even an outside shot Adam was going to have a “normal” looking cover ?? It’s ridiculous .. it’s out there .. It’s everything I expected .. I wouldn’t care if the album was him riding a bicycle in sweatpants and a blank white t shirt smiling .. I am still buying the record. People make too big a deal about this.

  • leome

Oh no, now Blake will have reason to say he is an inspiration to Adam and that people keep comparing Adam to him.

  • Jolene

My eyes! My eyes! He looks like a Bratz doll.

    LMAO.

    Well… It’ll definitely be noticed.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/Valilac1 VAlilac

    I LOL’d. then I serioused.
Who buys albums based on their covers anyway, so why not send a message?

I love the boldness. This cover screams “Goodbye American Idol!”

  • houstonrufus

I’m not surprised so much by the style. This is always who I thought Adam was as an artist. And that’s cool. I’m just surprised this isn’t more original. It’s a little TOO Ziggy Stardust, 70′s glam. The reference and allusion feels too exact and dated to me. But props to Adam for sticking to his vision, assuming this is it. I don’t always get Gaga or like her stuff, but it feels like hers. This feels like he showed up to a retro theme party.

  • CCAdamFan

Yeah…hmmmm. My hubby is not crazy about Adam at all, but he does admit that the boy can sang! This album cover will not help matters.

  • Truthiness

Let me tell you how bad this cover is, ontd_ ai, flail central for all things Kradam, is by and large NOT feeling this cover. THAT is very. bad. sign.

    Epic. Fail.

    I can have sads now.

  • Dallas

Harken back to the gal Fuko whatever…remember her work? This is it and this is what she does.

I wish my lips were that pretty.

  • BeckyMD

It’s laughable. I hate it. period.

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

Now we REALLY know what Kris was lookiing at in that theatre.

  • Eileen99

Dang it, it’s not what I expected. I really wanted to like it – looks SO dated to me. I wanted a fierce photo a la the ones in the black outfit with the red shoes – THOSE were hot. This, not. Absolutely not. IDK – his base will love it probably, but those outside Idol, I’m not sure it’s mainstream enough. I really expected a knock-out gorgeous picture of him …

  • Niall

Not feeling Ziggy Stardust. Or Velvet Goldmine. Or anything other than how or why would they strip all the masculinity off such a smoldering sex symbol.

Who is “they?” This is probably exactly what Adam wanted. He’s the Zodiac show guy and he’s the one talking about glam. If people don’t like it, Adam’s the one to blame. LOL

  • khomphuong

oh lord, that cover makes me hate him more.

  • jpfan

Blake doing the snoopy dance. OMG so damn funny. (I actually like Blake’s recent music but nothing will ever top his unicorn album cover for hideous.)

  • 4evrmomof4

    holeighannie,

THAT was the idea, he was not meant to look totally human

Ziggy Stardust, Life on Mars- He told us he would do updated Bowie….

Check out Bowie channel on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/user/officialdavidbowie?blend=1&ob=4

This is what Adam always said he was going for, IMO

Did anyone expect safe? He loves GaGa, she isn’t exactly safe!

  • lizziegs

Amazing and I absolutely love it. Just when you think he can’t surprise us again, he does something like this. Man, he has guts!!
oh, and this may just qualify as being “outside the Idol bubble”.

  • ankapopa

He looks like a woman… or like Boy George

  • Soberba

OMG!!! I just screamed and scared the hell out of my cat when I saw this. I think is beautiful, but I gotta be honest: he kinda looks like a woman on this, I don’t know.

  • beesims

    That’s not Glam, that’s’ ¦cheesy neo-disco!!

The font, the photoshop, everything is so cheap

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It is so over-the-top cheesy that maybe I am wondering if it isn’t some kind of subversive self-parody.

  • Duke

Um. ok. I like adam regardless of any pic of him. But i think its a bit too Chris Crocker for the public.

I like it. A lot. Anything thats OTT, i like. and it fits him. Id maybe like to have had a bit more of the “rock vibe” from the pic, but its better than just a boring head-shot (ie what they gave kris’s album cover).

Let’s just remember, its about the music. let that do the talkin.

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

    LOL. I cant stop laughing.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

Fine. The thread moved. I’m reposting my comments:

    Comment #1:

If enough of us get on Twitter, can we force a do-over?

    I’m only slightly kidding.

ETA: I’m not kidding at all. That is seriously fucking bad. That cover is going to LIMIT his audience. Not expand it. No male in his right mind will buy that album. A good number of females would blanch before being seen buying that album. That choice of cover is not just stupid, its stupidity to the nth degree.

Where the fuck are his friends who talked him out of the flaming headdress?! Whichever record exec approved this should have his ass kicked.

  • mitchellvii

UM – HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT, HATE IT.

Did I mention I HATE IT?

He looks like a woman for Chrissakes! All of those awesome photos of him in that recent photoshoot and he goes with this?

Saying I am disappoimted would be an understatement. Was Adam TRYING to look like a Drag Queen?

He just lost at least 1/2 of his male audience.

Sorry, I love Adam, but this is cooked in some serious wrong-sauce.

    Epic fail.

  • Niall

Did anyone expect safe? He loves GaGa, she isn’t exactly safe!

I wouldn’t go that far. She’s a huge radio star now, which makes her mainstream and therefore, safe.

  • Renina

Can I not be shot if I don’t beat around the bush here because that cover is IMO terrible. It’s just so bad and laughable. If he wanted the industry to take him seriously this probably wasn’t the way to go.

  • adamisthemanfan

I love it…and that was my initial reaction. I think he looks beautiful and I say that not just about the cover I think he exudes beauty as a person..his voice, his physical appearance, etc…I dont find it sexy, just beautiful…I mean we all know he can be sexy…
plus what I think is most great about his cover is that he’s paying homage to the artists and period in music he is most fond of and admires/aspires to and I think its great…plus its his whole theme of being a glittery alien from the planet fierce..I also think its meant t counter-balance those pics from the magazine shoot that just came out…
and I agree it takes courage and self-confidence to use a cover like that.
    Cant wait for some music

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

    Relocated comment #2:

Wasn’t the whole point of having the album a chance to get album art?! Wasn’t the entire point of an album cover to INDUCE people to buy it?

O.M.G. There are simply not enough words in the English language to describe the idiodicy of that pictoral decision. He HAD a chance to market himself to a wide audience. He chose to divebomb for the sake of ‘art’ .

I cannot believe that I am acutally PISSED by a piece of ‘album art’ , but that is my only emotion right now. My only desire right now it to kick his talented but STUPID ass.

  • butte009

    Reminds me of Boy George back in the 80s. BTW I loved Culture Club back in the day. {sings Do you really want to hurt me?….}

  • lola

It’s different – That’s Adam. It will survive despite the negative posts of some Adam fans.

  • Teri63

I truly, truly love it. I think it’s so OUT THERE, and, therefore, SO HIM! It makes me even more excited to hear the music that promises to be befitting of such a risky, androgynous, sexy and fiery cover. This is why I became enamored of Adam in the first place. He dares to be different and is proud of it!

  • 10DogMom

The only thing I’m excited about is the fact that his AdamOfficial finally scooped everyone else…

  • Niall

Just when you think he can’t surprise us again, he does something like this.

I can’t figure out why people are surprised and I still haven’t seen a post explaining what else was expected, with an explanation why that is in line with Adam’s post AI career and his own statements since.

  • Mila

Well, Blake doesn’t have to worry about having the most mocked album cover anymore. So, Blake is doing a snoopy dance right now.

Everything adam did was always a little ridiculous, but it always worked for him. So for this is just like him dancing at the tour, his antics, his OTTnes. I like it, its very him.

Of course some people may only find it ridiulous.

I am sure he will be mocked if he has dismal sales or a flop single. Otherwise, he will be fine.

  • ptslittlecomment

I expected glam, but not quite like this.

It’s more OTT than Bowie’s take on a similiar pose.

    http://becooling.co.uk/assets/images/1971_DavidBowie_HunkyDory.jpg

As I said in the other thread, I don’t think the cover alone will win him any non-fans. It is already winning him some pretty derogatory comments from outside the bubble and lots of disappointment from even uber-fans.

He’s very handsome, but there are soooooooooooooooo many photos of Adam that are better. Including many, many glam shots. It’s rather elementary in its production. Glam on a budget by the numbers. I guess its “Idol-glam”.

Hopefully folks can get past the CD and listen to what’s inside. But its going to prove to be a barrier that folks shouldn’t have had to cross.

  • clearone

Well’ ¦ It’ll definitely be noticed.

…and not for the right reasons.

Think I’ll make my own hot CD cover with pics from the 2012 video.

    FHS…….very well said.

Just wow……and not in a good way.

  • Ladyguard

    Well I love it.

As to all the complaining…….people are so negative on the internet. In two days all Adam’s fans will be raving about it.

  • 4Msrmyn

    Audio Day Dream v2.0.

    Oh, I don’t think it’s that bad.

(Goes to look at the A.D.D. cover again for reference)

Nope, when it comes to horrible Idol album covers, Audio Day Dream still wins (IMO).

  • wrigley

oooh, dear! I love Adam-the voice, the attitude, the honesty… but that looks like like it was shot by someone who does glamour shots of middle aged housewives.

Well, if he had to make a mistep, it seems like a minor one.

  • suebrody

See, I love Adam’s look on:

    BTBW
    RoF
MW (deux, so mournful in coat, emo hair)
    Crying
    Hollywood week
    Tour with emo hair
front page of AO (the one I was SURE they would use)
    Details pics

Now, you can’t say that he looked like a wimp in these pics, right? Especially not on the Tour. I don’t know if he looked FIERCE, but he looked sexxy. This does not scream sexxy to me. I really DO NOT CARE what ppl inside the Idol bubble think. They will buy the album b/c they like/love Adam or they will not. I CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT IN THE IDOL BUBBLE. Will they think, Oh, cool, this is like Ziggy Stardust glam? Or will they think, WTF is this and not buy it? I want ppl to buy the goddamn album b/c Adam deserves to be heard.

Dammit, I loved Adam’s look in TfM. :(

Yes, and hello folding and selling jeans at Macey’s again!!

    OK just kidding guys!!!

We all know his music wil be awesome and that is what really counts. But why Adam…Why!!!

  • heartforadam

I am still buying the album, but I might want to put my own Adam’s picture over it. :) But love those piercing blue eyes, though.

  • IdolThoughts

It is GORGEOUS! It’s totally Glam and awesome! I love Empire of the Sun…don’t know if you’ve ever heard of them. But they have the same glam-rock fabulocity going on. LOVE IT! Yay Adam! Can’t wait to hear the music that accompanies this beautiful piece of art!

  • adamisthemanfan

That cover is going to LIMIT his audience. Not expand it. No male in his right mind will buy that album. A good number of females would blanch before being seen buying that album. That choice of cover is not just stupid, its stupidity to the nth degree.

Where the fuck are his friends who talked him out of the flaming headdress?! Whichever record exec approved this should have his ass kicked.

LMAO…you make a good point about the male audience, but hey if the music is good then he will do well…plus I think he wants to attract a younger audience that is PERHAPS more open-minded…well I guess Im biased cuz Im a female, but everyone already knows hes gay so it shouldnt come as a shock to anyone….
if anything itll give some ppl a good laugh..in a good way though :)

Love the album cover! Very nice how the color theme was pulled from the Triffid Nebula. Adam the star-child has arrived.

Yep, peeps are talking about it. And you KNOW Adam is laughing his ass off. The thing is, and I think it’s a valid question, is if will affect sales. Because IT MIGHT. It just might.

I wonder if his mom is having a heart attack. ;) I bet Laura Saltman is happy dancing and laughing. I bet Lyndsey is dying to interview him. I bet Cantiello is thinking of snarky remarks and Slezak is pointing out to his mom how much guyliner Adam is wearing. :)

OMG! Wow…I am speechless. Not what I was expecting at all, but I ..I think I like it…

  • Margie32127

I think it’s damn gorgeous, just like he is. :)

  • Squirrely

    moved from the headlines -

Seriously the ‘fans’ who have not been feeling anything Adam has done since he left AI ‘“ I think it’s time to exit the bus because he not going to go in your direction. I’m really starting to love the cover ‘“ it’s a ‘what the heck’ then a ‘damn I like that’ feeling.

I’m actually proud of him for being so out there and not conforming to the norm, will it win him new fans *shrugs*

  • LindaT

I really like Adam, but this cover is a misfire to me. What happened to all of the photos from the shoot at the castle (the one that produced the Michelin Man photo)? I expected something more like a cool cross between glam and gothic. Instead, this cover looks cheap and cheesy — like something I could have photoshopped on my laptop.

Also, I’m concerned that he looks more feminine than androgynous. Before I looked at the headline I thought I was looking at a picture of Pink with dark hair. Is this really the way Adam’s team wants him to be presented to the marketplace for his debut album?

Has cover art ever sunk a debut album? If so, it may be time to get worried …

  • dv

And the photoshopping continues with the Idols …… and well everyone in the industry.

eh not liking it, but its the music that matter. Can’t wait for the single.

  • hwc

I would remind everyone that 19/RCA signed off on this cover. They have their reasons for gong with a ‘bold’ cover. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the music probably won’t sound like retread corporate-rock Nickelback covers. This is clearly a cover designed to be ‘too much for parents to handle’ .

    hwc (aka ‘blowhard tard-in-disguise’ )

  • ladymadonna

Wow. Idol has produced some shittastic album art in the past, but none that I recall could be included in this gallery of hideously bad Glamour Shots. Obviously the cover is not going to deter Adam’s hardcore fans from buying the album. But I have real trouble imagining this playing well to the casual Walmart big-box shoppers that most Idols need desperately in order to sell their records outside of the internet-driven Idolverse. This is going to be reeeaaally interesting….

  • CCAdamFan

It totally does remind me of the Xanadu album cover of Olivia Newton-John. Which I absolutely LOVED, still do to this day (the music, not album cover). But, I am afraid that this may severely limit his audience. Maybe something like this could be done for a second or better yet, third album cover, once the fanbase is well established.

  • Gigi3

We knew there was day-glo makeup, we knew he loves the androgynous look of Bill Kaulitz (Tokio Hotel), we know he loves Velvet Goldmine, we know he idolizes David Bowie, and we know he wants to bring glam back.
Have you seen the Diamond Dogs Bowie cover Adam mentioned as a great influence?

I have to ask, have you not been paying attention? LOL
It is EXACTLY what I expected.

  • holeighannie

    holeighannie,

THAT was the idea, he was not meant to look totally human

    Yeeaahh, I don’t buy that.

It’s funny to compare this picture to Kris’s cover and think of all the “he is SO overly photoshopped!!” comments…

And I really want to quote Top Idol right now, because she echoed my thoughts exactly in her latest posts, but I don’t wanna get called a homophobe or whatevs…hmm… “This shit is the gayest damn thing I’ve seen since Wham’s Wake Me Up (Before You Go Go) video.”

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

HoppersSkippersMiners: No male in his right mind will buy that album

Tess: No’ ¦no middle of the road AI fan will buy this. Adam just divorced himself from AI in one final blow. And kudos.

I wanted Adam to SELL ALBUMS!! I wanted Adam to be embraced by a wide range of listeners up to and including the metal lovers who would normally NEVER give someone like Adam a chance (yeah, put whatever damnned gay joke you want here). I didn’t want Adam to give a big ** FU ** to people who would be on the fence about giving him a listen.

He *said* he had a businessman side and an artistic side and he was trying to balance the two. There’s no freaking balance here. He decided to “damn the torpedos!”, and I think he’s going to get damnned in return.

  • k4dc

Is that a black headband? I can’t quite figure out what that black area is on his forehead.

  • Truthiness

It’s tragically, laughablly bad. Not even ironically funny/cool/bad. Just no parts of goodness with this.

    Oy vey.

Today is NOT a good day to be an Adam stan.

  • beehiway

I posted my views on the other thread… but to reiterate.

I love it. I look into his eyes and I feel they really look into mine. Yeah corny, but I really love Adam and having this cover art on his cd, being able to look into those eyes, makes me happy. I see real innocence in this depiction. It is the glittery alien theme and I love it.

He probably said make me look like blue glitter. :)

  • dyg1

Not sexy at all for me. I love his voice.

    I need a drink.

  • JosieX

It’s not what I would have chosen, but I didn’t really expect it would be! It’s pretty, but it just doesn’t fit my image of Adam. I think of him as being powerful, kind of a “force of nature” effect when he performs. This wispy, languid pretty person in the photo just doesn’t match that. I don’t really know how much effect the album art has on how well the album does, but I assume that the music is vastly more important, so I am not going to worry about it.

  • tierbee

Oh, wow… well… he’s pretty? I don’t know what else to say. He looks like P!nk’s sister. I mean, it’s definitely out there… it just reminds me of like a Flashdance soundtrack cover or something. Something I’d find in my vault of 80s albums. Not feeling it. I mean, won’t stop me from buying his music if I like it, it’s just… You know how you can change the cover art for songs on iTunes? I’d be changing this one for sure, lol.

    (Runs off singing… What a feeling…)

  • http://www.myspace.com/gundomom CarieB

So androgynously sexy and Bowie-esque (Ziggy Stardust circa 2010). I love it! Can’t wait to hear it!

  • mitchellvii

    Question:

Can you imagine a straight male walking into music store and buying a CD with THIS picture on the front and not being laughed out of town by all his friends.

Whoever made this marketing choice for Adam should be fired immediately. Hell, it’s not even done well.

Adam went right past androgeny into full-on drag queen.

Again, I almost have to believe this is a JOKE And NOT the real cover. It is so amateurish and hideous and just awful.

  • julieitis

Well, it coordinates very nicely with MJ’s banner.

  • girlygirl

I think that if people want to buy Adam’s album, they are going to do so even if they hate the album cover. After all, if you get a hard copy of the CD you can get rid of the cover just by removing the cardboard/paper insert.

So it shouldn’t hurt Adam much, if at all, in terms of sales.

  • Squirrely

Is that a black headband? I can’t quite figure out what that black area is on his forehead.

it’s a shadow of the hairline

  • leome

I don’t really see anything out there, different, non safe, non idol about this cover… I only see a lot of Photoshop and 80s inpiration. It’s kinda ugly, but ugly doesn’t mean innovative or anything.

  • Keel

RCA doesn’t do wishy washy and just goes for the extremes? DC looked like he wants to punch you in the face on his cover, while Adam looks like he wants to do your makeup.

Moved this from the headlines thread. DC looked like he just smelled a fart on his cover and Adam looks like he just stepped out of the Human League’s Don’t You Want Me Baby video, playing the part of the girl. There’s a very ’80s vibe going on there.

  • christyo

Not a freckle to be had!!! Bummer!

  • http://wwpv.smcvt.edu VAidolFan09

ok as a straight guy I totally am not looking forward to going into a store to buy this…seriously this album cover is awful…I’m a hardcore Adam fan but this…this is horrible…

  • isidra

I’m sorry, but it kind of looks like the Lisa Frank graphic I used to have on my trapper keeper when I was twelve.

It’s pretty, but definitely not to my taste. Maybe it will attract the teenaged girl market, though?

  • SashaB

I love the boldness. This cover screams ‘Goodbye American Idol!’

I actually thinks this screams “Hello American Idol” and pass the PopTarts. It buys into the stereotypes that have been associated with AI as cheesy and uninspired karaoke. I am surprised by this and think this is unfortunate for Adam. Let’s hope the content makes up for the exterior. Sadly, missed opportunity RCA. Wow.

  • SybilTrelawney

I honestly don’t know what to think of this. It reminds me a bit of Aladdin Sane (Bowie), which is an expected influence but … I don’t know whether I like it or not. I think part of what is unsettling to me is that the picture is so airbrushed. It barely looks like Adam.

Well, in the end, it’s the music that counts. T4M grew on me, so maybe the album cover will too.

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

julieitis: Well, it coordinates very nicely with MJ’s banner.

Oh God. [holds head in hands]

  • Michelle

I have to ask, have you not been paying attention? LOL
It is EXACTLY what I expected.

I expected someone at his label to inject some common sense into the decision.

  • Starlight Lady

I suddenly have the urge to dig out my old Xanadu LP and do some roller skating in the front driveway!

  • Kirsten

No male in his right mind will buy that album. A good number of females would blanch before being seen buying that album.

Maybe people will have to buy a few camaflouge CDs with it. You know, like when guys have to go to the store to buy certain products for their wives and put a bunch of other stuff in the basket to cover them? This is RCA’s way of moving more units this winter? LOL

I think they even used the same purple and star background as Blake used. WTF? I thought I was told that they had a decent designer for this album cover (who was that again?). Fan art indeed. It’s so cheap looking, I’d expect the average fan to do better than this.

Just keep hoping that Adam decided he liked Kris’s vocal coach prank so much, he decided to prank his fans. No matter what the real album cover looks like, people will be pleased.

  • Truthiness

He *said* he had a businessman side and an artistic side and he was trying to balance the two. There’s no freaking balance here. He decided to ‘damn the torpedos!’ , and I think he’s going to get damnned in return.

And this isn’t even going to play to the regular and non-AI buyers because it’s just bad art. Laughably bad art. It’s too cheesy, too femine, too dated, without being a cool retro thing.

This cover isn’t just damning the torpeos, which is fine, it’s just not well done! I don’t know WTF the cover artist was trying to do, or why anyone at RCA and Adam thought this would work, but it doesn’t. It sucks.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

ok as a straight guy I totally am not looking forward to going into a store to buy this’ ¦

Well…um. With all due respect, you can always download the damn thing. People still buy CD’s? *stunned*

  • jammasta

I’m not gonna be a fan of this album (after hearing what everyone else says will be on it, including Adam), but I think the cover is pretty sick (good sick). Adam looks a bit too womanly, but I like it.

  • mitchellvii

I just looked at it again to hopefully like it better the second glance.

Nope, he doesn’t even look like a man! And ALL of those awesome photos he took and he goes with this? Epic epic fail.

I hope this is a joke and not the real cover.

P.S. Adam has been so brilliant in dealing with the press and appealing to everyone. Why the hell would he do something so polarizing as this cover?

I mean, the Michelin Man would be 10000% better than this. Maybe it’s a fake.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I expected glam, but this somehow doesn’t quite work for me. Won’t stop me from buying the music.

The concept could have been executed much better. It’s not even that edgy… just cheesy. Oh, well.

  • mmb

I expected glam, i expected wild, i expected cool makeup, i expected something waaayy out there…but i wasn’t expecting unattractive/ugly….i just think this was a good idea that was executed poorly and in an unattractive way….but i still can’t wait to hear his music

  • bench

    whoa. mascary.

  • HermeticallySealed

Question, why is everyone griping at Adam? He’s not the one who get’s the final say, even if he does get to inject his opinion towards the final decision. He’s not the one that did the layout. he’s not the one that took the picture nor likely the one that picked which photo was used.

At most he said “I want something OTT glam! Something 70′s, disco-y, Bowie!” And the art director went from there. Even then, it probably had to go through further approval from management.

I’m not saying, “Don’t you dare not like it!” Just aim the ire at the right target.

Personally, I love it. I am also male and considered fairly sane.
It’s very glam, very unsafe, very polarizing, very Adam. No real surprise here. Had it been tamer I would have been disappointing.

  • dreamfly

So I just want to say that I love Adam and I can’t wait for the album (hello SINGLE!) but I am so disappointed in this cover. I will be makin my own cover for the album for my iPod. I don’t like the fonts and I don’t like how fem he looks. I’m all for him being who he is and being glam, but I don’t know what they were thinkin in the design of this. Just odd. Hope it grows on me…Maybe?

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

VAidolFan09: ok as a straight guy I totally am not looking forward to going into a store to buy this’ ¦seriously this album cover is awful’ ¦I’m a hardcore Adam fan but this’ ¦this is horrible’ ¦

    Knew it.

My husband, or frankly any other straight guy I know, won’t touch this thing in a million years either.

  • ptslittlecomment

I got it! He’s trying to prove that its what is on the inside that counts! It is a morality lesson! Good job Adam.

  • Chicagolaw

I still say bizarre decision by RCA. They must be feeling confident. Obviously, I will buy it (probably 2 copies), but I sure hope the music is good.

Adam, you are a brave, brave boy.

  • sidewalkstory

    My fav comment on Twitter:

The 80′s called. They want their album cover back.

  • lorismile

As I said on someplace else it screams “whatever you were expecting of me, erase it, because you have no idea what you are in for..”

Adam definately has some gigantic sized balls. That’s for sure!

  • jonsdol

Lurking since Feb… WOW. All I can say is WOW. Love, love, love Adam. But this? Eew. My whole family thinks I’m crazy… Now they will know for sure! Even the Michelin Man picture would be better.

  • Niall

And the chops begin…I think this person also saw the resemblance to Blake’s cover:
    http://i35.tinypic.com/347w6xu.jpg

  • Duke

I think if there’s a debate on whether or not a pic of adam is too gay/OTT, then it probably is….haha.

I like it now that i have stared at it for 5 minutes.

The thing we have to keep in mind is that the pic is not predictable! Something Adam thrives on.

He stated before, and so have the producers that have worked with him on this album, that his music is like NOTHING HEARD BEFORE. So why would he want any kind of picture/symbolance that is out in the current music market right now? He’s trying to be unique. And when we are thrown out of the norm, we tend to react strongly. I think it’s going to grow on all his fans by the time his album comes out.

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

hwc, as always, is on to something. Ask yourselves why RCA signed off on this? They are going in a particular direction with Adam and they are not pussy-footing around. Swinging for the fences. Skipping the pit stop. Long bomb. Pick your metaphor — they are going for it.

Now, like Hoppers, I may regret that no one who reads Rockstar Weekly will like the cover. It may limit his potential in certain areas — but — it just may vastly expand it in other areas. Adam may be about to explode all over the Top 40 music scene. Pink with dark hair is right, and that’s no insult.

  • unidentified

I just don’t know what to say about that picture. His skin looks nice. I don’t really like it though. If it didn’t have Adam Lambert on it, I would think it was a girl.

I think I will be getting my CD off of Itunes so I can change the picture myself.

  • SparklesATL

Don’t know why, but I immediately thought of this.

Uhhhh. Notice any similarities in the font? Also I noticed the Adam cover has one light green eye and one blue eye, just like DB. For those who don’t know Bowie’s eye was injured when he was young and the pupil was paralyzed open. In the album cover of Adam, the colors are reversed.

  • claudette

    Allison wins the cover round!

I’ll go with “Why Adam Why?”. Not a thing sexy about this and I was always intrigued by his ability to be sexual to many people regardless of orientation.

  • jersey

This cover is what I expected from Adam. I don’t think it’s well executed though. It comes off as meh. And as I said in the other thread (in agreement with someone else) I absolutely HATE the hand on the face.

  • LeeTravers

Now – EVERYONE who has seen this cover will want to hear the music. (If parents are outraged, kids will think it subversive and buy it.)

Adam’s probably laughing his ass off.

  • kmra

I’m sorry, but it kind of looks like the Lisa Frank graphic I used to have on my trapper keeper when I was twelve.

Good call, isidra. So Lisa Frank. Complete with those glittery unicorn stickers.

    Still not feeling this.

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

    LMAO – I LOVE IT!

  • rattleandhum

ok as a straight guy I totally am not looking forward to going into a store to buy this’ ¦seriously this album cover is awful’ ¦I’m a hardcore Adam fan but this’ ¦this is horrible’ ¦

order it off Amazon and ask for the brown wrapper LOL..

I actully thinks this screams ‘Hello American Idol’ and pass the PopTarts. It buys into the stereotypes that have been associated with AI as cheesy and uninspired karaoke. I am surprised by this and think this is unfortunate for Adam. Let’s hope the content makes up for the exterior. Sadly, missed opportunity RCA. Wow.

LOL sorry… have you seen the other album covers from previous idols? This in NO WAY screams cheesy and uninspired….

It certainly is getting reactions.. just like everything Adam does. He’s gonna love that.

  • Sassycatz

This is clearly a cover designed to be ‘too much for parents to handle’ .

It’s not threatening at all. The cover would probably appeal to young girls because it *is* so non-sexual.

  • Keel

    Is he punking us?

  • luvadamlambert

OMFAAAA thank god I got here before the thread exloded.

I’m not omg that’s perfect on it but I

    doooFLOVE IT!!!

plus it makes a cool wallpaper for my itouch

    awesome…

  • clearone

eh not liking it, but its the music that matter. Can’t wait for the single.

Now I’m really worried about the music as well. If RCA signed off on this for a cover, what have they signed off on as music?

  • erinnthered

Um…I see no shades of Blake Lewis on that cover…Blake’s was miles better…I…yeah…he wants to appeal to a mass audience with that cover? I know drag queens who wouldn’t buy anything that looked like that (I do mean that literally).

LindaT, I agree he looks a lot more feminine than androgynous. I’m shocked the record label approved it. I know Adam loves Bowie, but I can’t believe he would think he could emulate him.

I’m confused and really disappointed. It’s just lacks self-awareness on a level I never would have expected from Adam.

Seriously, I want him to succeed. This is not helping.

    Not. Fierce. At all.

  • sunny2

Whoever said that this is like Audio Day Dream is absolutely right, except it has a glittery alien on the cover.

I guess Adam’s going the Lady Gaga, Madonna route by being outrageous and a spectacle. He really doesn’t need that since he has so much raw talent.

I don’t know why he photoshoped his face like that. He is beautiful. I’m sure the grannies like him because he reminds them of Elvis, but this picture makes him look like Boy George.

  • BCU79

Well, it coordinates very nicely with MJ’s banner.

LOL! I don’t even know what to say. I know everything gets photo-shopped these days. But good grief!

What happened to all those shots from the photo shoot with the red shoes? They were excellent.

  • adamisthemanfan

He HAD a chance to market himself to a wide audience. He chose to divebomb for the sake of ‘art’ .

I cannot believe that I am acutally PISSED by a piece of ‘album art’ , but that is my only emotion right now. My only desire right now it to kick his talented but STUPID ass.

LOL! I understand your point but what will really determine his sales is the music…nobody buys CD’s based on album covers..I certainly dont…people now a days dont buy music period…dont fret, just wait for the single..this is for his fans and for himself…his performances will make the difference, especially the AMA performance and the single…
and maybe there will be a deluxe edition with an alternative cover…artists do that all the time and his website did say there was going to be a deluxe version…
    just stay tuned :)
and I agree it is fun to be an Adam fan.

  • mandalay

When was the last time anyone bought an album for the album cover? I’ve never known anyone who did anyway. Unless they wanted a full size classic vinyl cover to frame. Saying no men will buy it. I guess Bowie, Prince, Queen et al didn’t have any male fans. Not to mention the fact that a damn cd cover is too small to look at anyway. It’s Adam Lambert people. It’s about the voice. It’s about the music. It’s about…well shit. It is pretty. AND I don’t see the cover affecting who will buy the thing anyway. Can you picture anyone who never heard of him saying “well gee, that’s a pretty picture – think I’ll buy that album” or people who know who he is but aren’t quite yet fans saying “well gee, I kind of like Adam Lambert, but I don’t like the album cover, so I’m not buying”.

  • suebrody

HSM and Truthiness, we need to form a team. ;) And SashaB, I think it is ballsy but to the extreme. It’s like, I am not *him* (we know who *he* is), I am *me*. Only the me that was in the Zodiac Show and not on Idol and who was the runner-up. The one who was a chorus boy in Wicked. And THIS is what saddens me. Walmart shoppers are NOT gonna buy this album.

Alright, Adam, you have about 150 posts on your thread in about 20 minutes. You got your attention. Is the kind you want? Maybe so…and, okay, let me tell you, GaGa did pretty damn well with THE FAME BUT GaGa isn’t going that route for album #2 (tho I still don’t think her album cover was nearly as out there; she was clearly a woman, not a glittery alien from planet fierce).

It remains to be seen what will happen…it should be VERY interesting…

  • dyg1

It’s pretty, but it just doesn’t fit my image of Adam. I think of him as being powerful, kind of a ‘force of nature’ effect when he performs. This wispy, languid pretty person in the photo just doesn’t match that

Exactly my feelings. I see the cover and I don ´t feel Adam. That pretty picture of him does not go with his powerful voice. The Zodiac pictures do. He is TOO beautiful to be hot.

Of course I will buy the CD, but I might cover the cover with another pic. :-(

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

Put this next to the Details spread and tell me you can categorize Adam Lambert. He defies being put into a nice, neat little box.
Not gonna happen. He is a thrill a minute :)

This is subversive, this alienates the parents, it intrigues, it shocks.
It challenges you- maybe it challenges you to like it, but it certainly is provocative!!

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

LMAO – I LOVE THIS MAN SO MUCH (the typeface not so much)! And lmao at the reactions here.

If you are expecting mainstream, best move along now before you get your feelings hurt.

All aboard the crazy train. I’m not giving up my seat for anything.

  • elw

Wow, what a chameleon Adam is. He can go from hot ‘heterosexual’ pictures in Details magazine to this totally feminine picture. He kinda did the same thing on idol, changing and surprising us each week.

  • Teri63

I have to ask, have you not been paying attention? LOL
It is EXACTLY what I expected.

YES to THIS! And I’m so freakin’ happy I can’t see straight. To me, it signifies that he’s successfully broken out of the Idol mold on this CD. He’s a risk taker, and RCA is obviously along for his wild ride. Me, too! What fun this all is!

  • http://twitter.com/Shantilux Lux

Well, I love it and it will definitely be noticed, it ´s so Adam, what do you expected people? Velvet Goldmine, Bowie, The Zodiac Show, Glam rock ,the 70 ´s talk, didn ´t all those things rang a bell? now we are going to see who really is a fan, this is Adam!! he likes the androgynous image, get use to it ´cause I think this is only the begining, I can ´t wait for the music!!

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

RCA signed off on Blake’s album art, too. Just sayin…

  • sidewalkstory

It wouldn’t be Adam if he didn’t cause controversy. Is America ready for this?

I don’t know if I was ready to see a girl on the cover of his album, lol.

  • Mtlfan

    I’m quite surprised here
it’s a pretty picture but it seems to have been produced by American Next Male Top Model

i was so not expecting the dreamy, soft pic for the glam rock album. I think a much more energetic picture would have been better for him

  • LaurelG

When I heard they were using glow in the dark make-up at the shoot, this is sort of what I imagined.

Does anyone else think the album will also glow in the dark? Cool.

  • jinxx315

Woe that cover is amazing! Can’t wait for his album to drop! Me and my mom were watching some of his videos today (and my mom used to be the one screaming for Elvis way back when) and I still get chills watching him perform. I can’t wait! uuuuugggh! :)

  • larc

    Bummer!

If Adam had a sister, maybe it would look like her. It certainly doesn’t look like Adam.

I hope this is somebody’s bad joke.

  • koshka

I think I like the FU this is my cover attitude. Starting to dig the shock factor.

  • tiger92

Ladies and Gentlemen…we have left the idol bubble!!! Way to go, Adam! Ballsy and Amazing!

  • jpfan

Nobody buys an album for the cover but a bad cover can turn people off. I’m not saying this will do that. I’m really not sure how most people will react to this.

  • FifthHouseSun

Also, I’m concerned that he looks more feminine than androgynous.

It is not adrogynous, LindaT. Adrogeny has mystery and intrigue and both sides. Disturbingly appeals to everyone. Inspires a sexual response in all takers. This is a girl shot. Over air-brushed. With wretched, really embarassingly wretched typography. Such bad and useless typography that as Truthiness says, it’s not even bad enough to be a kind of cool joke.

There better be masculine pictures to make George Clooney jealous on the inside. So that some inkling of thinking or creativity is involved. “I know, let’s show both sides to the extreme.”

I think of him as being powerful, kind of a ‘force of nature’ effect when he performs. This wispy, languid pretty person in the photo just doesn’t match that.

    So true, JosieX.

This isn’t risky or controversial, IMHO. It’s just, no, why, what were you thinking? Risky and controversial have concept involved. Newness. Something you’ve never seen before.

But, again, if they do something to create concept on the inside, then it’s just back to stunningly dreadful typography.

  • mrskiddens

I don’t understand at all those who say it will limit his audience. It will do just the opposite. Lady Gaga, Prince, Madonna, Bowie, none of them would have fared on Idol, but they were and are obviously embraced by buyers.

Hello! Idol fans are NOT the majority of music buyers (thankfully, for those of us with tastes outside the mainstream!)

  • Kirsten

This is clearly a cover designed to be ‘too much for parents to handle’ .

Except that the parents did in fact handle it, 20-30 years ago. LOL. The parents are going to see this and start having flash-backs to their highschool years. And spontaneously start singing songs from Xanadu until their kids run screaming in emberassment from the room.

  • houstonrufus

To the Adam fans who don’t like it, welcome to the wacky world of post idol careerdom where you will pull your hair out trying to figure out what they were thinking.

To the Adam fans who love it, enjoy! Sooner or later you will be in the first group. :) Peace.

  • erinnthered

One more comment…why the low end typeface? I don’t understand why the label couldn’t spring for something less…1987. It’s not retro, it’s like bad neon spandex 1987.

Adam deserves more than this. He needs someone around him who can tell him “no.” I can’t say enough how shocked I am that he already doesn’t.

Except that the parents did in fact handle it, 20-30 years ago. LOL. The parents are going to see this and start having flash-backs to their highschool years. And spontaneously start singing songs from Xanadu until their kids run screaming in emberassment from the room.

Thank you, Kirsten. You said it so much better than I ever could.

  • 4Msrmyn

    He’s very pretty.
    I can’t believe this was RCA’s idea.
    This couldn’t be anyone’s choice but Adam’s.

  • mitchellvii

I just figured it out. It is like a bad glamour shot pose incredibly over-airbrushed. With someone as photogenic as Adam, why the need for air-brushing?

First Adam is horribly directed in TFM and now this. Ugh. Words can’t express my disappointment.

  • suebrody

Where are his beautiful green eyes? What’s that thing on his wrist? Is he wearing a blue wig? WHY IS IT SO GODDAMNED PHOTOSHOPPED?!

I bet Walmart DOES cover it with brown wrap. lol

Nope. Don’t like it. Am buying it. Whatevers.

  • houstonrufus

Oh, Kirsten. You said exactly what I was thinking but I didn’t know it until I read your post.

  • IdolThoughts

I don’t think he is catering to Walmart shoppers or conservative middle Americans…so I think it’s great. He’s a gay man who wears make-up and likes to play dress-up! If the music is good people will buy his songs on iTunes or wherever. The album artwork is not going to make or break Adam’s cd. But for the record…again…I love it and I get it! Glam is back!

  • HoppersSkippersMiners

hwc: I would remind everyone that 19/RCA signed off on this cover. They have their reasons for gong with a ‘bold’ cover. I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the music probably won’t sound like retread corporate-rock Nickelback covers. This is clearly a cover designed to be ‘too much for parents to handle’ .

I think the suits at 19/RCA got overwhelmed and started smoking crack.

I’m an Adam stan and this piece of crap is “too much to me to handle”.

I cannot believe I’m this angry over an album cover. Yes I do, I’m angry because I think Adam just screwed up a major opportunity and – for some stupid reason – I like this guy more that I’ve liked any singer in the last 20 years and I suddenly think that he was a moron. Which probably puts my own judgement into question.

I seriously cannot look at this thing anymore. I’ll check back on the thread later.

  • aa618892

This thread will be up to 1000 posts by morning. LOL! Go Adam!

  • Keel

Geez, my husband would probably kick my ass (figuratively) if I ever gave him this album as a stocking stuffer. The cover would seem to narrow the gifting possibilities.

  • blmetsfan

one of the worst covers I’ve ever seen

  • Starry

Well, I’m totally Entertained, Adam is absolutely gorgeous, no matter whether he’s with no makeup and a white tee, or totally glam ~ not what you expected? he said I”ll surprise you” gotta love his fierce, fearlessness, he will never be the same old thing, makes me feel like the album will be Totally Out of This World Awesome! Adam is the perfect Androgynous Being, more beautiful than most women, but that nose is totally masculine, love how the pale green shadow makes his eyes look violet blue. I’m going to dress up, pour something elegant, lean back and be Entertained when ADAM’S music arrives! Love you Adam- don’t you think he knew it would be controversial? Relax and enjoy the show!

  • jersey

I don’t think it’s subversive at all. I can’t see parents “hating it”. If anything, I think parents might get it. My 17 year old has way more “subversive” album art in his collection. I would never “not allow him” to buy an album because of its cover art. And yeah, he still buys cds. He’s going to go to college for contemporary music and he wants his hard copies! All that said, I still don’t love it. It’s too, “clean”.

  • lola

One thing for sure – Adam is loving the controversy. Love it or hate it, it’ still being talked about. People will definitely stop and look at it.

  • http://www.noahsarkworkshop.com/tammyluebrecht_s9189 tammyinohio

This cover is absolutely gorgeous!!! It’s exactly what I was hoping and expecting from him. I love Adam and he did not disappoint this fan whatsoever! Just my opinion but if people don’t buy his album based on this cover then they aren’t really fans to begin with. For those who weren’t fans in the first place but were willing to give him a shot but now won’t based on this cover, are really losing out on a wonderful thing. Damn, I just realized that was really wordy and probably made no sense at all!! *lol*

  • Truthiness

eh not liking it, but its the music that matter. Can’t wait for the single.

Now I’m really worried about the music as well. If RCA signed off on this for a cover, what have they signed off on as music?

Agreed, I’m worried. As I mentioned before, Adam clearly needs people to tell him when to put the flaming headdress down sometime. He needs some honest people who can tell him “no,” and get him to think.

Someone should have been telling him a big fat, flaming headress will kill you NO on this cover.

I really do need a Snowcap or three for this. I mean if even the majority of Adam’s stans don’t like this…oy vey. I hesitate to think outside of that.

  • becausehelives

speechless here ! I don’t know what to think yet but it does seem like he can’t be bothered abt winning new conservative fans. i don’t see them casually picking up this album in the stores.

  • beesims

And the chops begin’ ¦I think this person also saw the resemblance to Blake’s cover:
    http://i35.tinypic.com/347w6xu.jpg

This actually makes it better. It would go from being just tacky and cheesy to something Weezer or Gaga would do.

  • jmg887

“When was the last time anyone bought an album for the album cover?”

When teenage boys started buying Britney Spears albums…lol. Sorry, this is either a big joke or marketing ploy to start conversations (it will). Love it or hate it (I am personally laughing at it), people will talk. If the music speaks to his fans/new fans, the cover is of no consequence anyway.

  • yinyang

Wow, I’m surprised at all the negative comments- I didn’t expect that. I totally LOVE the cover. It’s perfect for the glittery alien. And it sure beats Michelin Man. LOL. And, uh, I’m partial to blue, so I love the colors.

Now I’m even more excited about the album.

Is it Nov. 23 yet? No? Sigh. I’m getting tired of waiting….

I was dragging around in our dreary weather, but the album cover sure perked me up. No fiery headdress, hehe, but I really love it.

  • Daniel B

Wow… that’s very very different… I think it’s a tremendously bad call to use that pic and will substantially hurt album sales among undecided buyers (though honestly that may be a pretty small demographic, I think most people already either love or hate this guy).

I’m not an Adam fan, but I hope the marketing wizards take this back to the drawing board for a better approach. I want Adam to have his shot, just like all the other Idols, and marketed right this guy could be the next pop sensation, but this is wrong on so many levels it feels like they are unfairly handicapping him. That is just… bad. Give the poor guy a chance, and use a different cover.

“I think it’s pretty safe to assume that the music probably won’t sound like retread corporate-rock Nickelback covers.”

I’m always confused by the term ‘corporate rock’. Every major act in music you have ever heard of is still part of a business and usually backed by a corporation of one sort or another. Nickelback is a great example of how working hard and having a distinctive sound plus talent can turn a small-town group of guys who no-one ever heard of into major international superstars.

But in any case I completely agree with the sentiment you are expressing. You have to be living under a rock not to have a fair idea of the kind of music Adam will be making, and in my opinion it isn’t anything close to Rock. He has the potential to be the next Pop king if he does well, but there isn’t much Rock to him.

  • alaadam

I don’t think peeps buy an album for the cover but the problem is that some peeps already thought Adam was weird/drag/etc. I think the cover DOES put him in a box. More peeps are gonna see the cover than the details shoot. I want to cry. This is going to go viral in minutes…overshadowing the details shoot.

  • rattleandhum

Nobody buys an album for the cover but a bad cover can turn people off.
I’m not saying this will do that. I’m really not sure how most people will react to this.

inside the idol bubble where everything is white bread and vanilla this album cover is shocking. In the REAL WORLD, where album covers are seen as ART, this will be praised.

I just find it hysterical that people are so shocked and outraged by this cover. Did you expect him to pose in profile with his mouth hanging open like a dope? seriously.

This is adam we’re talking about… haven’t you been paying attention? He’s pushing the boundaries. He doesn’t play it safe EVER.

Think about what this album will look like sitting on the same shelf with the other new releases? It will POP. It will draw the consumer’s attention…. they will pick it up… they will possibly preview it on one of those handy dandy headsets that stores provide now… and they might actually LIKE what they hear and buy the album.

Adam never wanted to blend in….

  • gangreen29

This album cover is not a “ballsy” decision, it is a stupid one. I have no problem with a glammed up dramatic cover, but this is just crap. It looks nothing like Adam. It looks cheap and tacky. It is very dated and reminds me of the horrible covers of the 70′s sci-fi books my dad has in the basement. Blake’s album cover is 100% better than this. In the long run it really doesn’t matter too much, but it certainly is not good publicity for Adam.

  • suebrody

BTW: you can love Adam and not love the cover. They are mutually exclusive. Just sayin’. Please don’t hate those of us (like me) who aren’t digging the cover. I wanna hear the music. I don’t need to look at the cover.

  • Niall

Except that the parents did in fact handle it, 20-30 years ago. LOL. The parents are going to see this and start having flash-backs to their highschool years. And spontaneously start singing songs from Xanadu until their kids run screaming in emberassment from the room.

Exactly. This is NOT controversial because parents of today who grew up in the 1970′s and 80′s have already seen this before. Adam is borrowing from another era, not doing something subversive or original or challenging of the status quo. Anybody who worries about that needs a calendar. LOL

  • Miss Chaos

I just clicked on and saw this, HOLY BATMAN, I dont even know what to say, going to read all the posts!!!!!!!

    That’s a VERY conservative estimate!

  • mgk

I can’t wait to see what he looks like when he performs his single on the AMAs! lol I think I’m still in shock.

  • cilady

I would be too embarrassed to be seen in public with that album in my hand which is its biggest problem.

  • IdolThoughts

I wanna hop on his white unicorn right now off into the prismatic, glittery sunset. FIERCE!!!

  • jersey

Again, I don’t agree that it’s shocking. The original cover of “Yesterday and Today” by The Beatles was shocking at the time – they even recovered it for the US version.

  • LaurelG

I don’t really see anything out there, different, non safe, non idol about this cover’ ¦

Um, leome, have you noticed that he’s a guy made up to look like a girl and his hair is electric blue? LOL.

I mean, you can like it or not, but the reality is this is a very non safe, non idol cover. Carrie Underwood has a flower in her hair, she is not sporting a beard.

  • 4Msrmyn

    YEA!

  • http://mamadeb.livejournal.com mamadeb

It’s beautiful. Adam’s beautiful. He’s always embraced his feminine, but for this he chose to let it take the forefront.

Yes, it’s photoshopped to a fair-thee-well, but that’s what they do. Look at the Sebree photos we’ve been seeing forever. And it brings out his gorgeous eyes and that intensely sexual look on his face.

This isn’t supposed to be safe or merely pretty. It’s supposed to be out there and garner attention and make us think a little bit, and to talk a lot. In other words, it’s a representation of what he hopes his music will be, too. It’s not like Adam has ever wanted to be safe.

He’s our glittery alien, being exactly who he is. I wouldn’t change him for any conventional cover anywhere.

  • mitchellvii

God help me, I just looked at it again and it is starting the grow on me. Something strangely hypnotic in his gaze.

I dunno. I HATE IT but can’t stop looking at it. How weird is that?

  • cookcricket

Wait, has Rolling Stone weighed in on this yet? I know they’re going simply flove it! I wonder what kind of spin they’ll give it for the hard core rockers…*shrugs*. Adam has the media backing so I really don’t think anyone needs to worry.

This is a photo-shopped joke, right?

  • FifthHouseSun

If you are expecting mainstream, best move along now before you get your feelings hurt.

Just the opposite. Who wants mainstream? I was expecting great. I was expecting risk. I was expecting something like no one else alive could do. And recognizing that was over-expecting, my fallback was interesting.

What I got, IMHO, was just nothing. Over air-brushed picture of Pink’s sister. A face shot. With some half-gloves. That’s artistic and innovative, how?

Velvet Goldmine had some interesting shots. David Bowie did some art. This is none of the above. There is no edge. What’s the glamour? Make-up and a glove ornament?

This isn’t ballsy. Ballsy inspires. Photoshop is not ballsy. Or courageous. It’s the opposite. ROF was ballsy.

Unless there is a pay-off inside, this feels as self-indulgent, and really not a good idea, as his head on fire idea for the Zodiac show. Adam on AI tour was fascinating. This is so not interesting.

Perhaps there will be a fuller concept with the whole album.

  • sevenstar

I think it’s brilliant. If I didn’t know who Adam Lambert was, this would grab my attention in one second. It will definitely get people talking. And since there are so many comments re the photoshopping, I have to comment that a friend of mine is the one who airbrushed it. The work she does is very high-end and expensive. Nothing cheap about it. The look here is definitely intentional. Androgynous, pretty alien.

That is what he going for. Dorothy, we arern’t in Kansas anymore.

I give the guy credit. He ain’t lacking cajones. He has a vision and he is going for it. Let’s see what happens.

  • SpenserJ

It’s weird for sure, but I guess that’s the intention. It doesn’t bother me though (admittedly, I never actually give a crap about album art). It definitely gets your attention. I find the angle of the head tilt a bit extreme, but that won’t make me not buy it.

  • IdolThoughts

mamadeb… YES! I love everything you said. Perfectly stated.

The “For Your Entertainment” font harkens back to the Purple Rain album cover, no?

Hey – Adam’s going GLOBAL – this is a perfect pic for countries like Japan – they’ll LOVE it.

A word one reviewer used to describe Adam – and I’ve mentioned it before – fits him perfectly: ENIGMATIC (absolutely)

  • leome

I just find it hysterical that people are so shocked and outraged by this cover. Did you expect him to pose in profile with his mouth hanging open like a dope? seriously.

I’m not really seeing much shock in the idol bubble. I think most people’s reaction is more “cheesy” “cheap” “photoshoped” “looks like Blake’s” (which in idol world means it’s bad)… it’s more a surprise that the cover looks bad than “omg that’s so out there”.

  • Izzie2

LOL! Two days ago I was pissed about the article in Details magazine because I thought they were trying to portray him as some hot hunk to every woman in America instead of the Glam Rocker that I had loved from AI. Now it seems I have my wish..

eta: but not crazy about this cover. However it IS going to generate some controversy so maybe not all bad?

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/voronas-ontario-american-idol-tour-recap.htm vorona

The cover might grow on me, but that font on the album title is extremely cheesy, and I won’t change my mind on that.

I don’t see it as risky and out there, either. Just seems retro. I grew up in the eighties, so I’m seeing hints of Nagel prints, Boy George, and Purple Rain or something.

I’m still looking forward to the music that comes with this image.

  • readon

Let’s see if there is a pay off inside. It’s a WTF album cover. Does it completely turn you off or do you want to see if there is a payoff inside?

  • Duke

Are people surprised that the cover is photoshopped a lot? Have any of you seen a pop-album cover lately? Anyone remember Kelly’s? It’s a necessity now-a-days.

  • Truthiness

BTW: you can love Adam and not love the cover. They are mutually exclusive. Just sayin’. Please don’t hate those of us (like me) who aren’t digging the cover. I wanna hear the music. I don’t need to look at the cover.

This cover needs to be mocked and mocked often. And that doesn’t make someone less of a fan. Unless this cheesfest of a cover really did cause one to turn in their fan badge. In which case, okay den.

I mean I’m still going to buy this album without hearing a track on it (or one I like) so clearly still a supportive fan.

But when Adam does things that aren’t good, I’m not going to not say something just because I’m a stan. In fact it’s because I’m a stan that I worry so much for Adam and dislike this cover so effing much.

If I didn’t want Adam to succeed, his making craptastic, cheesy, laughably bad covers wouldn’t bother me. My lulz would be unimpeded. As it is I’m LOLing than SRSing.

  • Michelle

It’s not polarizing, everyone seems to agree it sucks. or edgy/subversive/whatever. It’s just a bad glamour shot with dated font and the same sparkle effect they used on Kelly’s covers. At least Blake’s was stylized so you could see there was something artistic being attempted.

  • Planet Fierce

What’s up with you guys….everyone looks like this on my planet. I would have expected no less from him. LOVE IT!!!!! He looks so pretty and I hate to tell ya’ll…he wants to look pretty, so we best be dealin’.

  • mitchellvii

Hey folks, the cover show here is WAY MORE SHOPPED than the actual cover I am seeing elsewhere. I like the REAL COVER much better. Check it out:

    http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/adamlambert_foryourentertainment_cover__oPt.jpg

It is more “grainy” and less shopped looking.

The OP needs to post a better pic. The one you are using is wrong.

Late to the party as I’m still at work…actually doing work!

Put me in the “I LOVE IT” camp – he’s a beautiful, ethereal, mystical sprite.

Blake Lewis? No way. But thank you for playing!

  • http://www.facebook.com/officialbjones smiles

You know, after the first look I got over all of the extreme airbrushing and I decided I actually like the cover. It’s not exactly what I expected but I think it fits Adam’s vision pretty well. And he did warn us about taking risks…

But who the hell picked the font for “For Your Entertainment?!?” It reminds me of metallic sharpie. It just jumps out everytime I look at the picture…which I guess could be the goal of it….but still….ew.

  • 4Msrmyn

    Take another look.

    He’s naked.

  • alaadam

Twitter seems to love it. .

  • neverland

I absolutely LOVE the cover. To me, it speaks to who Adam is, and who he has repeatedly described himself to be: over the top, shocking, glamorous, retro, electro…it has all those elements, and he’s described that again and again when discussing both the image he wants and the music he wants to create. Perfect cover, Adam!!

  • luval

    LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS COVER!!!!!!

Adam, you are a genius! Never expected this. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

  • adamisthemanfan

Does anyone else think the album will also glow in the dark? Cool.

    THIS..love that idea…yes!!

I don’t know if I was ready to see a girl on the cover of his album, lol.

LOL yes it is more feminine than androgynous

I don’t understand at all those who say it will limit his audience. It will do just the opposite. Lady Gaga, Prince, Madonna, Bowie, none of them would have fared on Idol, but they were and are obviously embraced by buyers.

Hello! Idol fans are NOT the majority of music buyers (thankfully, for those of us with tastes outside the mainstream!)

    AMEN to this.

  • JudyOhio

Dunno, to purple/pink or something. Looks more like a painting than a picture. They could have at least had a shirt on him. The cover as a whole?…..Do not like.

Hmmm, just scrolled up before hitting the submit button to be sure I saw what I saw. Ok, feel the same. They should reconsider using this. The hand at the side of his head, the pastel lip color, the contrived at silly pose. Hope they scrap this.

  • blmetsfan

it’s so bad, i can’t take my eyes off of it

  • sylvanaire

You know, I expected Adam’s cover to be out there, I even expected there to be airbrushing. But this is just cheesy. I really hoped for something a lot more professional and artsy. Like others have said, he’s too feminine looking. I love all the glam makeup he wears at times, so I’m not opposed to that, but maybe they’ve just airbrushed the life right out of him. He looks more like a cartoon, than a real boy. Sorry, not feeling it. It’s too bad though, because they had a great subject to work with. TPTB could have done something really amazing with him. What a missed opportunity. Yes the music is what will matter in the end, but they could have had both, not just one or the other. I love P!nk’s Funhouse album, so I have high hopes I will like his single, but I too will replace the album art if I buy it.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

I’m LOLing at the drama’ ¦

I know- this is just so much fun!!

You don’t think this is risky? It’s a huge risk. Just read this thread, there’s your evidence. People are stomping around and threatening to pack up their tent and go home because they don’t like it.

  • Dallas

I’ll tell you what bugs me the most. It looks like a Vegas drag queen. I wanted wild, OTT, glam, fierce, whatever, to match the wild new music inside. Not drag queen.

  • LaurelG

I actually thinks this screams ‘Hello American Idol’ and pass the PopTarts. It buys into the stereotypes that have been associated with AI as cheesy and uninspired karaoke.

Could you elaborate on this, SashaB. What stereotype are you referring to? The blue-haired, androgynous glittery alien type that they keep recasting on this show year after year? :)

  • IdolThoughts

I don’t really see it as dated or cheesy…it’s an obvious throw back to glam. They didn’t have the modern fonts and backgrounds etc. It’s supposed to look retro and airbrushed and whimsical.

  • rattleandhum

But when Adam does things that aren’t good, I’m not going to not say something just because I’m a stan. In fact it’s because I’m a stan that I worry so much for Adam and dislike this cover so effing much.

and saying we love it isn’t just because we’re stans.

the opinion that it sucks is no more valid than the opinion that it’s fierce and fabulous.

Adam hasn’t made a mistep yet. I think this cover was meant to ignite both positive and negative feelings.. in fans and non fans alike… just like the details shoots when Laura said some conservative people would be offended and Adam said GOOD….

  • JR Labrador

Can I hire to be my spokesperson because you nailed it. I wanted creative and thought provoking. This? It just seems like they banged it out in an hour after a few bong hits.

  • nora

Of all the gorgeous pictures we’ve seen of Adam, he had to use this one? He looks ridiculous. So disappointing.

  • Truthiness

Twitter seems to love it. .

We must be looking at different Twitter.

  • ptslittlecomment

I just find it hysterical that people are so shocked and outraged by this cover. Did you expect him to pose in profile with his mouth hanging open like a dope? seriously.

No, I wanted him to have a CD cover that didn’t look like he went to the Glamour Shots booth at the Mall for a quick lunchtime photoshoot.

I am not shocked by the cover. I am disappointed. I would have loved to see him in something of quality – whether it be glam or emo or Elvis or something that was captivating and thought provoking.

As I said before this looks elementary. It’s Idol-glam.

Adam has said he doesn’t want to be put in a box or labeled. Well someone just shut the lid and re-capped their sharpie..

  • Esqt

never thought “pushing a button” feels like a big “shove”. i hope i’ll recover soon.

first impression: the pose is awkward; don’t like the hand placement. where’s the “fierce” look?!!; it’s too charmin ultra

    ……….*closes eyes, then open*………

second impression: ok, he looks pretty despite the photoshopped maximu; luv the eye-makeup –so gorgeous; not feelin’ the “i have no clothes on” look. he should have worn something on top to off-set the “nekked” illusion.

he looks like the “Blue” version of Ms. “Pink”. BUT I STILL LUV HIM no matter what. not cancelling my preorders. LOL. geez, Adam!!!

    bring back the michellin man!!!

  • adamisthemanfan

I would be too embarrassed to be seen in public with that album in my hand which is its biggest problem.

    LMFAO…seriously too funny…and I kind of agree

  • Jae

so best debut Album Cover goes to…Allison Iraheta!

But seriously, I really don’t hate this cover. I like it the more I look at it. And it makes that silly title, FYE, really work. That image, like the music is FYE. He is having fun. He wants to make you dance, enjoy yourself, feel sexy as he was obviously doing in that image. The uber photshopping, the dreamy expression, it’s FANTASY. Kudos to him for having fun and not pandering to people who wouldn’t get him anyway. JMO.

  • mikeyb

Oh man, I hate that cover. Oh well, it’s not like he’s a painter or photographer.

  • dyg1

Where have the good times of Micheline Man gone?

I am trying hard to like this cover, but the more I see it, the more wrongs I find.

  • leome

Um, leome, have you noticed that he’s a guy made up to look like a girl and his hair is electric blue? LOL.

And this is new where? Not in my world. I wasn’t even alive and covers like this were already being made.

  • christyo

The one thing that people have said about Adam that seems to bother him the most is when they refer to him as a drag queen. I have heard him tell us to get our definitions straight etc etc that he is not a drag queen. Why then is that what he chooses for his album cover……him looking like a girl. Though by definition he might not be in drag, so to speak, there is no doubt he looks like a woman on this cover. Instead of an opportunity for him to gain some respect and some new fans, he has put himself in a box and yes many will call him a drag queen. Such a wasted opportunity to win over some new fans, but Adam probably doesn’t care anyway.

  • rattleandhum

it’s so bad, i can’t take my eyes off of it

I made it my desk top LOL.. it’s beautiful

  • HermeticallySealed

One thing I’m going to add, I think people’s age group will determine a lot of how they react. I can certainly see guys in their 30′s or 40′s getting their knickers in a bunch at the thought of being seen with this album, but my experience with teens and early twentysomethings now days shows that they won’t generally care.

Sure some will, certainly the self stylized thugs and gangbangers won’t be caught dead with it. But you know, we actually get a lot of straight teen boys at the gay youth center my boss runs. They come to the dance nights with their friends, they watch the drag shows and have no real hangups about it all. The center deals with youths 14-20 btw, just for reference, and there are usually 2-300 kids on the dance/drag nights with about half being straight.

So I’ll shrug my shoulders at the hoopla. I’ve seen plenty of covers on albums that have been marketed to the “straight” male demographic in the past that were more questionable than this. Edgar Winter and twisted Sister come to mind.

    Rolling Stone Magazine weighs in-

Do not adjust you computer monitors: the above image of Adam Lambert is in fact the cover for his post-Idol debut album For Your Entertainment, due out November 23rd. The album cover was confirmed by Lambert’s Adam Official website today, and judging solely by the art, his debut is venturing to a glammed-out galaxy far, far away from his image on his 2012 single ‘Time for Miracles’ ‘” probably landing someplace where there are Spiders from Mars. From his bright blue hair to For Your Entertainment’s straight-off-Purple Rain font, this album looks like it’ll live up to Lambert’s Twitter promise that ‘Glam is back!!!’

So how do Lambert’s fans feel about this striking cover? Apparently, the commenters on the Adam Official Website love it. One fan compares Lambert to a ‘Glittery Alien from Planet Fierce,’ which could be the best comparison one can make when discussing this cover. Elsewhere, there’s tons of ‘OMFG’ and ‘GLAM’ in the comments.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, Lambert’s debut LP will feature production work from Dr. Luke, Howard Benson, Rob Cavallo, RedOne, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, Claude Kelly, Linda Perry and Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. For Your Entertainment may also feature a Lady Gaga-penned song that Lambert recently recorded in the studio.

I think everyone likes the cover on Twitter but me.

I’m with you on this one Sue!
I could pick any one of the dozens (..hundreds?) of photos from my ‘Adam folder’ that I’d prefer. Elvis, emo, sexy, boyish, WLL, ToMT, Sebree ..hell, even NoLO ‘stache (I actually love those). I have always loved that the looks can be soooo different ‘“ but Adam still shines thru. Hate to say it, but my first impression of the cover was Glamour Shots from the mall.

It has NOTHING to do with sex fantasies or if he looks gay or not. It’s about marketing decisions. And flat out bad Photoshop. This look like fan art. A 14yo fan, btw. I’m sending the picture to my IRL friends online on MSN and they ALL agree it looks like a teenager fan messed around with Photoshop and cheap fonts. Where is his right shoulder? This is a joke. Bad cover is BAD. And I’m a fan, just for the record.

  • http://www.twitter.com/lambritta Blondie

Wow, how do any of you know that no one outside of the Idolsphere will not buy the album just because of the cover?

I’ve got a shitload of albums with unimaginative cover art and it didn’t stop me buying them. I bought them because I heard the music first and loved it enough to buy.

I love it, it’s mesmorising. The Alien Who Fell To Earth.

  • Jolene

I would be too embarrassed to be seen in public with that album in my hand which is its biggest problem.

That is a problem. I don’t know how big of a problem it is, that has to do with whether or not this photo reflects in any way the intended marketing direction for Adam. If it does… Goodbye to some of his potential casual fans.

  • jersey

Well, RS didn’t really weigh in. They just reported the comments of others. They didn’t indicate if they thought it was good or bad.

  • mitchellvii

I think the thing that we as his fans forget is that Adam Lambert isn’t just kinda gay, he is really really really gay.

That being said, the overall response I am reading around the web seems to be positive. Also, shots from other websites don’t look so shopped.

  • Studio57

This isn’t ballsy. Ballsy inspires. Photoshop is not ballsy. Or courageous. It’s the opposite. ROF was ballsy.

This is ABSOLUTELY ballsy. No one was expecting this. People were thinking her’d look all Fierce Alien, not pretty girl. There have been thousands of messages on Twitter already- most of them loving it. It has evoked heated discussion already- THAT is art.

I do agree with the naysayers about one thing- this will turn some people off, but I think Adam knows what he wants his target audience to be and fuck all the rest that can’t hang. Career suicide? maybe. But didn’t he say something about not getting anywhere unless you take chances? That kid has never strayed away from the path he set for himself. Ya gotta admire that.

  • Truthiness

  • Tess

I’m sure a psychologist would be having a field day on this thread. But I must admit that I’m a bit offended with people saying that WalMart needs to cover this with a brown paper bag. There is absolutely nothing offensive on this cover and to allude that there is, is pretty revealing, not about Adam but about the prevailing thought processes that still prevail in this country.

And to insinuate that no male would buy it, is also saying much more about the perceived narrow thinking that equates all men with beer guzzling, football watching, poker playing primates. I think the world has moved beyond that. And I also find it appaling that, because this does not fit into the narrow concept of what is masculine and what is feminine it is being held up for instant ridicule.

You can hate on the cover as much as you like…but by making broad social statements you are only falling back on old stereotypes that really need to be left behind…and many of them are very very offensive to people who have moved beyond this kind of muck.

  • beehiway

I printed it out on our big xerox copier and the skin color tone looks more normal. The colors on my PC gave it a redder hue and more of a “covergirl” feel than the printed version. So IDK. I turned the picture so that his head is not at a tilt and it looks a bit different.

RCA signed off on Blake’s album art, too. Just sayin’ ¦

pj, Blake’s may have been meh, but I’m not sure anyone would have been embarrassed to pick it up in a store. It won’t make me not listen to the music, but I’m not the one they need to appeal to. Plus, Blake’s album didn’t do too well by the Idol scale.

Also, I honestly think Blake may be the one contestant in the history of the show who really didn’t give a shit. I don’t believe that of Adam.

ETA: Blake’s also didn’t look cheap and thrown together. Can we count the number bad cliches on this cover? It’s astounding!

  • 4Msrmyn

Good art may evoke heated discussion at times. But not everything that evokes heated discussion is art.

  • beehiway

Well said Tess!!! Exactly what I was thinking.

  • Daniel B

“Plenty of guys bought this album, and this one too. ”

Hmm, interesting point, but I don’t think the comparison to Poison stands up. For one thing, Poison rocks, lol. Your other link I couldn’t follow or see what band you were talking about, but Poison is in a whole other genre and in a whole other timeframe, and musically sound nothing like anything Adam would ever do. The look is completely different too, but I’ll grant that it’s a least an interesting comparison, and as a straight guy I had (and have) no problem at all picking up a Poison album… but then I guess if I were a hardcore Adam fan I wouldn’t care that this album looks weird either, I would just overlook the fact.

It still looks extremely weird and offputting to me.

  • Crayonas

And just to add, it’s not the hardcore fans who need to like the cover. Of course most fans will LOVE it and think it’s ~art~(lol). It’s the random buyer who needs to like it (or at least not be terrified to pick up a hard copy).

Again, bad cover with cheap fonts is bad cover with cheap fonts.

  • jtoms

lol, there is nothing risky or provocative about the cover (umm…it’s just his face). it is very reminiscent of blake’s cover.

they both look like pictures you make at mall photobooths.

  • mmb

its the HAND! I just can’t stand the hand on the face…ruins the whole thing for me….the hand makes it look a little too feathery and cheesy….i get was he was going for; i expected something glam and OTT…but the haaaannnnnnddddddddd (and the tilted head)….a straight on shot with no hand and no tilt with everything else the same would have been fierce

  • LoveDaRocker

I feel uncomfortable looking at it. I just can’t explain why.
In my opinion, this cover is an EPIC FAIL.

  • weese

I didn’t expect the extreme feminine slant for his first outting. Thought they would ease the public into it–maybe second or third cd. I agree with those who feel there is nothing edgy or innovative about this and it is too photo-shopped, too perfect to even say he is beautiful. An album cover never stopped me from buying music I liked.

  • sanduskyday

First I thought the title sucked, now this photo. It screams of Culture Club type music, not the fierce rock, electronic, never before heard music Adam claims to have included on his CD. There is a disconnect between the cover photo and what Adam has been talking about for months.

Adam is a good looking person. This looks indulgent and cheap.

  • abbysee

Wow, I guess Adam fans aren’t just blindly loving every little thing the glittery one does. Refreshing. The hysterical gnashing though, not so refreshing. It’s a freaking album cover when people barely by records. I couldn’t tell you what the cover of the last cd I purchased looked like. It’s really not the end of the world……that’s not until 2012!

I think he looks beautiful. The font is a little ridiculous, but then so is Adam, self-admittedly so. I think this cover reveals a lot more about his fans than it does him. For those who wonder why he didn’t use something like from the Sebree (sp) photoshoot should wonder why he would be conventional. I bet however, that there will be some payoff for those who wanted something more ‘masculine’.

  • iFly55

    Guys!

Just look @ the font & color, this is poorly done and fake!

I’d bet my left sac that this cover is fake

  • Jae

I am betting VFTW is having a feel day with all the “disappointed” fan posts as well as with the cover itself! LOL!

  • alaadam

Twitter seems to love it. .

We must be looking at different Twitter.

I’m looking at the ones that say @adamlambert. What are you looking at? I want to see what they have to say about it.

  • Duke

God. My friends are going to make fun of me so bad when they see this in my car.

  • FifthHouseSun

But when Adam does things that aren’t good, I’m not going to not say something just because I’m a stan. In fact it’s because I’m a stan that I worry so much for Adam and dislike this cover so effing much.

I’m standing in the shadows of love, too, Truthiness. And feel the fire in your comments.

Yes, people of taste and talent have expressed liking this photo. And more power to them. Must be nice to feel good about this long awaited moment.

But those in the outrage camp, also not lacking in an eye for detail and delight in innovation, aren’t outraged about doing something risky. We love risk. Many of us are “outraged” about him doing something so nowhere. (And the type!)

“Let’s be really feminine, almost drag”. Again, unless there is an offsetting idea inside, that’s a meeting where I would have stood on the table screaming: NO! NO! NO!. That’s a possible, really self-indulgent, idea for a one-off, beautifully shot and choreographed video, down the line. Where you can really homage Velvet Goldmine and Bowie. That would create interesting publicity. And no fan let down.

People who love you being really dissappointed, creatively, in your album cover because they don’t think it has worthy artistic merit is not controversy.

Agreed, he really is costing himself from the beginning, and I agree with someone else here, putthing himself more in a box with this, than without.

    What a wasted opportunity.

Oh and I agree, if you’d be embarrassed to be seen with this album, and I would with this cover, not a good sign.

I shouldn’t have let myself hope with Allison’s excellent cover and Kris’s relatively good one. sigh. So disappoint.

  • soccerboi

Im not in love with the cover but I am in love with Adam’s voice. Let’s get real people more music is downloaded these days than bought via CD’s anyway.
Anyone embarrassed to carry a CD cover I would ask you when do you ever carry a CD case around anywhere. LOL.
I still do buy CD’s because I like to feel like I am still buying music and like to feel it but once I buy it I rarely see the case after I download it into my iPod.
All this discussion over the cover I find really hysterical because anyone anyone that would let the cover art affect their decision to buy it was not going to buy it in the first place.

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

And to insinuate that no male would buy it, is also saying much more about the perceived narrow thinking that equates all men with beer guzzling, football watching, poker playing primates.

Such a wasted opportunity to win over some new fans, but Adam probably doesn’t care anyway.

The same people that are ignorant and bigoted enough to call Adam names such as “drag queen” would say it with or without this cover. Adam is reaffirming who he is and what his idea of beauty is. If I were to have a cd cover, I would want to look as gorgeous as possible. This is how Adam sees himself and wants to be seen. I think it’s great and I accept this beautiful image! Adam is polarizing…that’s just how he likes it. He has made that very clear. He’s not trying to win people over or adjust his image for ANYONE. Kudos to him for backing up that statement with this cover.

I’ve bought albums by the covers, and they are some of the best ones I ever bought, if you don’t know the artist and your eye is caught by something fanciful, why not? Its called ‘intuitive buying’ I really don’t think he’s aiming for the Walmart shoppers, but, who knows all kinds shop there, come on, lighten up a little, it’s supposed to be fun, I’m sure the powers that be at RCA and the likes of Simon Fuller see something fantastic in this marvelous being – as we all do. The one thing i have to agree with Kiss about, is he’ll have to be tough, cause the fans will leave no one standing!! anyone remember some of the old pre AI pics, the one where he looks totally girl and his eyes are reflecting golden orange, then the one where he’s all blue with the skulls on his head, he couldn’t look more yang! • Cate

Today is NOT a good day to be an Adam stan.

It’s a GREAT DAY for this fan. Love it, love it, love it. Adam, keep on surprising us.

  • babybelle32

So, either there was a contest where RCA allowed fans to come up with their own fan art for the cover, or RCA ran out of money, and somebody came up with this on their home pc using photoshop.

All jokes aside, I think the picture does suit Adam and the over the top image that he’s trying to create for himself. Just like the title, it works for someone who is always trying to bring attention to himself, and who has created this image that he’s some over the top and out of this world figure.

I do wonder if this “image” will carry over into the music, or if it’s just going to be the same pop music that’s currently on the radio. The image on the cover is glam, but will the music also be glam?

  • LaurelG

As for the outcry over the photoshopping … yes, they smoothed out his skin and there is nary a freckle (or stubble) in sight, but you know what? His nose really is that straight and symmetrical, his lips really are that full and his eyes (enhanced by make-up, of course) really do look like that. He happens to be a very photogenic guy.

I’m a little amazed the suits let him do this. But it’s his life, his career and his future. I honestly do admire his courage.

  • Ex-lurker

Ah man, I was hoping for something fierce. What’s with the hand on the side of his face? It looks awkward like the Photog said “Tilt your head to your left.” Adam, “Like this?” This is just so not Adam. :(

Edit: See mmb’s comment now. Nearly comment twins.

I will echo some other posters here—you can love Adam and still hate this cover. I think the cover is kinda awful, and it’s a questionable decision by RCA. I don’t even see Adam, it is so, so airbrushed.

It is a cover. I will try to let it go (nothing I can do about it). I just really, really hope that the music is something awesome.

  • tiger92

I would be too embarrassed to be seen in public with that album in my hand which is its biggest problem.

You could always buy it off iTunes or Amazon!

Me- I’m going to walk to the audio section of Target, grab Adam’s cd, and proudly walk through the store with it! I’m only buying it at the time of purchase-that way everyone will know I made a special trip just to buy Adam’s cd!
Wut? That’s what Adam would do, too! I’m ballsy like that!

  • Crayonas

It’s totally like laughably bad fanart.

He could be in drag for all I care. This cover ISN’T risky. This is just bad fanart. TERRIBLE fan art.

    EPIC FAIL. I’m pissed.

  • MellowLE

Its laughable how people here think an album cover will have anything to do with increasing or decreasing his fan base. Really laughable.

That being said, when I first saw this cover I actually laughed out loud, and then sent it to all my friends so they could laugh at it too. And I love Adam’s music.

But this cover is just so bad and amateurish looking. I’m more surprised they went with this than disappointed. Its only album art, after all.

  • ESW

I’m coming out of lurking because this cover seems to be evoking a lot of strong reactions in people, myself included. I feel like the cover doesn’t work because Adam’s got a very masculine bone structure, so pulling off a sexually ambiguous gets a little more tricky. Makeup works on him well, but feminine posing seems to make him look drag and therefore more fringe and camp than trend-setter.

I would have much rather seen him wearing more make-up and glitter in a strong confident pose than with the toned-down make-up and feminine pose. Some people can get away with certain looks and others cannot. I don’t think this look works for Adam in a way that benefits him. I hope it’s not too late to change the cover.

That being said, if his music is great will people still care what the album cover looks like?

And to insinuate that no male would buy it, is also saying much more about the perceived narrow thinking that equates all men with beer guzzling, football watching, poker playing primates.

I resemble that remark and have absolutely no problem with the cover. When I buy it, I’ll plunk it down on the counter in front of the biggest male cashier I can find and tell him to keep the fucking change, bitch.

LMAO. well at least the cover’s contreversial….

  • suebrody

I meant that Walmart would cover it b/c of more conservative (NOT PRUDISH) buyers. I did not mean that they should, just that they might.

I am not sure why it’s a problem to dislike the cover. I haven’t heard one bloody single from it yet. NOT ONE. No leakage. No final track listings. NADA. And that’s what *I* am waiting for.

I have lots of pics that I would have preferred on the cover. So they aren’t there. The only reason I care at all is because I think he is HOT and I do not think this cover is HOT in the slightest. (I mean James Dean hot, I mean Adam on Tour with emo hair HOT, I mean Adam on RS hot.) I don’t see the hotness here.

Ppl give Kelly a hardtime b/c of photoshopping. Well, this is one big example of photoshop, and it doesn’t mean his album won’t kick!ass, b/c I think it totally will. I just don’t like the cover, and I really thought I would, since, aside from the YM pics (icky), I’ve liked every other pic, MM exempted (tho not a big pompadour fan). So I’m surprised (and the eyes–aren’t his green?). I would not be the slightest bit embarrassed to be seen w/ this album. I just dont’ like it.

Someone on Twitter said, the 80s want their era back. I thought that was funny, b/c I do see shades of Billy “Dancing with Myself” Idol in it.

I want to know what Adam is gonna wear on the Red Carpet tonight and whether or not Alisan or Ferras or Aimee made the final cut. Because that is more important to me, and hopefully to others. But as I’ve said, I want this album to sell like crazy, and if doesn’t because of the cover, that would be unfortunate.

    Guys!

Just look @ the font & color, this is poorly done and fake!

I’d bet my left sac that this cover is fake

I know! I feel like this is some bad publicity stunt, and the label will come back in a week and say that they made a mistake, and here’s the “real” cover.

I don’t think so though. This was released on adamofficial.com. If it is a publicity stunt, I hope it backfires in their amateurish faces.

On a related note, I’m disgusted that Rolling Stone et all aren’t openly calling Adam out on this cover. They know how bad it is. How much did RCA have to pay them? There has to be a trade off.

  • SpenserJ

I resemble that remark and have absolutely no problem with the cover. When I buy it, I’ll plunk it down on the counter in front of the biggest male cashier I can find and tell him to keep the fucking change, bitch.

    Hilarious.

Poor Adam, no one likes his idea of art. Or his preferred fonts for that matter LOL.

That said, I feel icky being in a thread where people keep referring to Adam as a drag queen. So, I’ll see ya’ all in the SYTYCD thread :)

  • Dallas

No one loves Adam any more that I do; no one loves his wild side more than I do.

But I am disappointed (again after TBD to FYE) that this album cover looks like a huge advertisement for a Vegas Show where there are beautiful guys dressed up like beautiful women and dancing.

Face it, it is not wild child fierce off the wall crazy Adam. I LOVE the makeup and the glitter eyeliner. NO problem. But I do not think it was smart to use a cover where he looks like a drag queen. It is offputting rather than glam.

  • greeneyedlady

That’s for sure. 1,000 posts within two hours is more like it.

I’d love to be in a room with Adam reading through these comments.

He’s no doubt laughing his ass off, and having a great time!

When I buy it, I’ll plunk it down on the counter in front of the biggest male cashier I can find and tell him to keep the fucking change, bitch.

    Seriously, halfie, you’re my hero!

I waited a while before posting, because I wanted to spend some time figuring out what I feel about this cover. Because at first, I was honestly kind of stunned. And I really really like it. In time I may come to love it. His eyes are mesmerizing, and there is an enchanted ethereal mood that comes across very well.
I love that Adam challenges me every step of the way. Being his fan is not for the faint-of-heart. But it’s endlessly rewarding!!

  • Duke

    tiger92

hahaha. i just got the best visual of that and i don’t even know what you look like. awesome.

  • AnninSD

    Not what I expected.
I’m strapped in to the roller coaster. whee!!!! This Adam ride is fun.
    Glam is back!!!
Keep looking, it may grow on you.
He is balancing between feminine and masculine here
First look I wasn’t sure. Second look I love it! It is gorgeous.
    The anti-american idol!
    Bowie-esque.
Well we will have to consider this another brilliant move by Adam. Once again he will have everyone talking about this album cover.
It’s more OTT than Bowie’s take on a similiar pose.
Well’ ¦ It’ll definitely be noticed.
I love the balls this kid has.
I look into his eyes and I feel they really look into mine.
I still say bizarre decision by RCA. They must be feeling confident.
They are going in a particular direction with Adam and they are not pussy-footing around. Swinging for the fences.
Well, I love it and it will definitely be noticed, it ´s so Adam
Ladies and Gentlemen’ ¦we have left the idol bubble

All of the above – Wow! rollercoaster is right my stomach flip flopped and then righted itself and now I kinda LOVE IT!
Push all the buttons you want Adam – I love it
I am having so much fun!

ETA: I think some of the f’eminine’ can be atributed to ‘he looks topless’
Beyonce for expample appeared naked on her cover and I think it would have been a little closer to what we’re used to for Adam if he wore a shirt…

  • beehiway
  • St.Lucia

    Holy Airbrushing, Batman!

    Its…its…pretty….

Adam totally is working that androgynous angle, no?

It is a little OTT for me, even if it is Adam and Adam is normally very OTT, but uh, the airbrushing, the AIRBRUSHING!

Sad to say, I was hoping for something “edgier” instead of “prettier”

Oh well. As long as the music is good, no one says I have to carry the CD case around, and I won’t.

    That’s what ipods are for.

  • lifeisgood

With all the sexy – hot shots of Adam…..they actually thought: Yes! This is the one? The hand….just no, the bad photoshop/extreme airbrushing…no. Someone said Glamour Shots at the mall – that nails it.

I have seen so many fan shots of Adam that were better than this. It almost looks dull to me – like a shot of a mannequin – where’s Adam’s spirit?
Oh well – I’m looking forward to hearing his album.

  • mmb

Well, The Wall Street Journal seems to like it:

    By WSJ Staff

Sony The cover art for Adam Lambert’s debut album ‘For Your Entertainment’ has just been released, and in typical Adam fashion, it’s glamtastic (As Lambert himself tweeted: ‘Glam is back!’ ). The ‘American Idol’ runner up is pictured with blue hair and hyper-colored lime and navy eye shadow, and a finger-less glove adorns in his left (black nail-polished) hand. Oh yeah, and his head seems to be floating around in space. David Bowie would be proud.

‘For Your Entertainment’ drops November 23 via 19 Recordings/RCA.

  • http://www.twitter.com/lambritta Blondie

Tess – thanks for your post. Well said.

All the photos we saw from the Seebree shoot were also photoshopped/airbrushed. And many people complained about those. All photos are shown this way nowadays.

Adam’s cover is face on at close range so of course it will look over-airbrushed.

If his face wasn’t so full-on and close range there’d still be complaints about the airbrushing.

  • Mainegal

“I would have much rather seen him wearing more make-up and glitter in a strong confident pose”

    Yes ESW — exactly!
That’s why the Sebree photos (esp. the hands on hips, staight on pose) work so well.

  • Destry

its the HAND! I just can’t stand the hand on the face’ ¦ruins the whole thing for me’ ¦.the hand makes it look a little too feathery and cheesy’ ¦.i get was he was going for; i expected something glam and OTT’ ¦but the haaaannnnnnddddddddd

Exactly! Weird how he usually makes aggressive, OTT, lust-loaded androgyny look so seamlessly natural, and yet here he’s in this awkwardly contrived pose. Nothing natural about it.

Oh how I long for the Rolling Stone pics. THOSE were edgy, daring, and artistic. They captured that dark edginess to him that is so spectacularly beautiful.

  • BestAI

Why would anyone be embarrassed to walk around with this cover? I’m really trying hard to come up with one reason, and I can’t.

  • http://tenuousatbest.blogspot.com imyourmom

Really? People actually buy music based on the album covers? Never in my life have I bought a record, cd, whatever because of the artwork. I don’t think I’m in the minority on this one.

With I-tunes, I would think objectionable artwork would rarely be a reason to pass up some good music nowadays.

  • Duke

Why would anyone be embarrassed to walk around with this cover? I’m really trying hard to come up with one reason, and I can’t.

I think it’s safe to say that for straight dudes, it’s really, really gay.

  • Tara

I had no idea that a CD cover meant so much. For the record I just don’t see it as being over the top. Not for Adam. Seems right in line actually. He looks beautiful… and yes…wish I had those lips too..I’ll take the eyes too if they’re up for grabs.

Boy George? No way. Boy George wore far more colorful makeup. Adam’s makeup looks pretty standard for him really, outside of the tiny touch of yellow/green on the eyes. It is actually pretty subdued and nice (the makeup).

I like the shadow around the forehead. Makes the hair kinda look like a feather hat tilted on his head. The airbrushing on the hair looks like feathers.

My one small wish: I would like to have seen some blended areas (Adam) into the background. He looks like a cutout with all the hard lines.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

10 minutes and 205 comments later, I still love it. (Sorry to disappoint you Michelle.) I think it’s very much a cross between Bowie’s Aladdin Sane and Hunky Dory covers. It never fails to amaze me how much less uptight we were in the 70′s about things like this. I mean, East Jesus, Nebraska! People are actually freaking out because it’s a “girl shot” and “straight men won’t buy it!!!” Oh. My. God. That’s fantastic! That’s exactly the kind of response I think Adam would expect from middle America. I really don’t think the guy trudging through Walmart buying a new pair of hunting boots is exactly Adam’s target demographic.

As for women who are too disappointed that the picture isn’t butch enough – Ladies? Adam is gay. And he might be tall and handsome, but he’s still pretty femme. This is Adam. If you need him to look a little more hetero, whip out your copy of Details.

  • 4Msrmyn

I never thought I was buying art. I’m buying a cd with Adam singing.

  • molls

    rattleandhum:

I just find it hysterical that people are so shocked and outraged by this cover. Did you expect him to pose in profile with his mouth hanging open like a dope? seriously.

This is adam we’re talking about’ ¦ haven’t you been paying attention? He’s pushing the boundaries. He doesn’t play it safe EVER.

Think about what this album will look like sitting on the same shelf with the other new releases? It will POP

    AMEN!!!!

Wow, I’m clearly in the minority, but I LOVE IT!!! It’s a work of art to me, and like someone mentioned, even if I didn’t know who he was, this would grab my eye in a heartbeat. The colors are lush and Adam looks ethereal…

    I’m surprised people are shocked…

  • lorismile

This reminds me of when he did ROF on Idol. Everyone freaking out, taking sides. LOVE IT!

  • gangreen29

HAHAHA art? No I don’t think so, this is about as high art as a Thomas Kinkade painting. Fake, tacky, cheap looking.

  • Kanadie Bonttell

no straight males would buy this’ ¦..

I’m a straight male, and I will be buying it, and have no problem with someone seeing it in my hand. If having this cover in my possession makes me gay, then so be it…what a sad world we live in!

  • Elspeth

Well, I think the picture of Adam and the colors are absolutely stunning. That being said I totally think that they should have stuck to the rule of thirds when composing the image. Or if they have to put him smack in the middle like that to make him recede a bit. The fonts don’t work well together, in my opinion, and with his name being over his head and the title of the album squeezed into a corner it looks a bit slap dash and crammed. You can bring life and movement and glitz to an image without creating a jumbley mess.

But I have to say, photoshopped or not he looks stunning! :)

  • Maddy

m coming out of lurking because this cover seems to be evoking a lot of strong reactions in people, myself included. I feel like the cover doesn’t work because Adam’s very masculine, so to successfully pull off a sexually ambiguous look he needs to work with his bone structure and not fight it. Makeup works on him well, but feminine posing seems to make him look drag and therefore more fringe than trend-setter.

I would have much rather seen him wearing more make-up and glitter in a strong confident pose than with the toned-down make-up and feminine pose. Some people can get away with certain looks and others cannot. I don’t think this look works for Adam in a way that benefits him. I hope it’s not too late to change the cover.

I think this is how I feel about the cover. He wore more makeup on tour but there are some amazing tour pictures out there that I think would have looked awesome. Or the Sebree pictures. I definitely am still buying.

  • MellowLE

also I love how Adam coming out with a badly photoshoped album, causing a good number of people to go “uuh that looks dumb” is this huge OH LOL THAT ADAM FOR PUSHING BUTTONS! moment for others.

  • Starry

Sorry if i’m being long winded, but, just read the “drag queen” stuff, Adam does NOT look like he’s in drag, he looks as naturally feminine as any woman would, just like he can look totally masculine when he wants to, he is a WHOLE being – Drag queens look a little sad, and definitely like men dressing up like women, this is soooooo different in Adam’s case, he is not Drag! He’s an Aquarian, this IS the 21st Century, and I think he’s the First male that is representative of a new energy for a New Millennium. I’ m going to be proud to carry this cd around…

This album cover is the most: TRASHY-GLAM-CHEESTASTIC-OTT-RIDICULOUS-ANDRONGYNOUS-70′s/80′s THROWBACK I’ve ever seen!!!

I adore this man. I adore the album cover. I adore the ‘Dirty Dancing’ font. I adore people with balls of steel!

Everything abut this cover is ridiculous! Cannot believe peeps are surprised by this.

I sent a pic of the cover to 5 straight males’ ¦three twenty somethings; one forty something; one fifty something’ ¦they ALL got it! They laughed and said Adam is a hoot and he has more chutzpah than any macho man.

This cover was NOT done on the cheap. Everything about it is supposed to look the way it does’ ¦from the cheesy font to the air-brushed out of control ridiculousness.

This will keep peeps talking for a long, long time. Well done, Mr. Lambert! For our entertainment, indeed. ;)

I just cannot think of a single time when buying any of the 300 plus albums and 100 CDs that I have accumulated in my 43 years that I ever had a prolonged thought about the cover. Or debated buying an album because of the cover. Or was inspired to buy an album because of a cover.

No, for me it always has been the BACK of an album or CD where they put the track listing that determines whether I am buying it or not.

After all, it isn’t a poster…it is an album of music!

I’m tellin’ ya — you may not PERSONALLY like it, but I think it’s ingenious. The boy wants to stand out, to reinvent pop/rock, to appeal sexy to both sexes. You can’t do that with an every day, ordinary pic. Now, I know a lot of people feel this pic is more feminine than androgynous, but it certainly does it for me! Those eyes, those lips, those nose (line from Gilligan’s Island … now I’ve dated myself!). I loved it at first sight, and I love it more each time I glance at his glamourousness!

I don’t give a crap that it’s Adam Lambert – he could be as sparkly and alien-like as he’d like to be.

It’s just a really, really, really poorly designed cover. Looks like a total, complete amateur with no taste at all designed it.

  • luvadamlambert

well I’ve been DYING to know what his album cover was….

    ….now I know

    it’s slowly growing on me….

When i used to buy more cd’s in stores, i rarely really looked at the covers that much. mainly, made sure i got the right CD. This one, on the other hand, I am going to keep it in front of me while listening to Adam, and stare at it and stare at it. Those eyes are mesmerizing. His face is perfection.

  • adamaloha

    The cover is art.
It pushes buttons. It is true to Adam himself in its ethereal edginess.

Adam is a beautiful man. That’s how countless people have often described him– beautiful. Not handsome, not good looking, not macho– but beautiful. Haven’t many of you described him that way?

He doesn’t have to prove his masculinity. He doesn’t have to please us all. He doesn’t even have to use this cover to attract more fans. If he wanted to be all things to all people his cover would be a vanilla reflection of that.

I love it. It makes me wonder what’s behind those eyes. It ruffles up my emotions and makes me realize there is still much to learn about the man, his spirit and his art.

    Beautiful.

  • Kate8

This cover is really not what I expected, outside of having great vocals you never know what to expect with Adam. I like that he takes risks with the exception of safety ones like the flaming headdress.

  • Destry

Well, one thing’s for sure, I can’t stop laughing. Guess it’s better to have a very strong reaction than to have no reaction at all.
    And mine was as follows:
    WTF!!!!!?
    Is this fan art?
Can’t believe just how horrendous the cheesy photoshop is
I really want to kiss his mouth when it’s parted like that…

  • koshka

People are being upset with you because you don’t like the cover? You are a HUGE flaily upbeat Adam stan, just because you don’t see the magic of Lisa Frank doesn’t mean you don’t still love Adam.

Twitter is the devil. Oh and yeah, not to Adam, but I am seeing some fairly negative reactions online about this album cover. Not Michelin Man Meets Bob’s Big Boy levels of derision and mock, but a majority amount. And yes, even from stans. Again, if even the majority of ontd_ai doesn’t like it, you’re in trouble.

  • Duke

I just realized adam and his team accomplished their goal: they got everyone talkin. genius.

  • anthrogeek

The more I look at it, the more I don’t mind it, and frankly, if I totally disregard the amateurish fonts and the FYE title, the glammed up portrait and space theme of the background is probably pretty much exactly what I expected to see had the title been PLANET FIERCE, Welcome to Planet Fierce, Glittery Alien from Planet Fierce, or some variation thereof.

That means the only part that does not work for me is the title! Once the title was announced as FYE a week or so ago, my conceptualization of the cover completely changed, but now I see my original visual concept came to fruition…. but with the WRONG TITLE.

  • suebrody

Just think of the possibiities. For the first time in Idol history, the street teams of other Idols may flock to WalMart to turn Mr. Lambert’s CD around front-ways instead of backwards and move it out of the Neil Sedaka section to a visible rack.

Damn, I better get home b/f the Red Carpet events start. You may resume posting. ;)

One more thing: I never liked the name of the album particularly. And now it just seems…like he’s putting on a show…but I want music first…oh, never mind. I need to think some more about this. I know, it doesn’t matter in the long run. I just love certain pics of Adam; this ain’t one of them. Not going on my wall.

Has Michael weighed in yet? :)

  • Starr

I like Adam, but I think that this is a terrible cover. It’s so old-fashioned, retro and yes, glam, but I don’t know if he is updating glam instead of trying to emulate it. I was expecting an edgier cover, not something that is super glossed over and glowy and with a ton of make-up and purple and the stars in the background are cheesy…Okay, sorry I will stop.

I wish one of the Details pics ended up as the cover. But if Adam is happy with it, who am I to whine?

  • St.Lucia

We are going to buy the album as Adam fans no problem….

But the casual fan seeing this in the store isn’t going to make someone want to pick it up.

    Sorry.

If I wasn’t an Adam fan and I saw that sitting on a shelf somewhere I’d burst out laughing in the store.

  • yinyang

I bet Walmart DOES cover it with brown wrap. lol

If so, I suspect Adam would enjoy that. Get people talking, do something outside what was expected. If Walmart chooses to cover it with a brown wrap, that would certainly get people talking. LOL.

I already printed it off so I can enjoy it while not on the computer. So, the cover made at least one person happy. And, meanwhile, it’s got lots of people talking, so it’s a success.

  • SparklesATL

Drag queens look a little sad, and definitely like men dressing up like women

And how many drag queens have you seen? I’ve been friends with drag queens for over 30 years and I’ve yet to find one who looks sad or looks like a man dressed up like a woman.

I feel the same way about those “Ladies Night” male strippers as you do about drag queens. To me they look a little sad and like they feel stupid dressed like a cowboy in Velcro pants. LOL!

  • suebrody

People are being upset with you because you don’t like the cover? You are a HUGE flaily upbeat Adam stan, just because you don’t see the magic of Lisa Frank doesn’t mean you don’t still love Adam.

Yep. And yep. And that makes me sad AND pissed off at the same time.

  • Glamour

I absolutely love his album cover! It’s so eye-catching. How can someone walk by that and not notice it? Bravo Adam! Great job!

  • sunchick

I like glam. I like Adam best when he pushes the envelope. But this is more glamour shots than glam. He looks decapitated. And for someone who is such a clothes horse, the super duper close up giant head seems like a weird choice. RCA need to fire their photoshop people. I swear the graphics person who puts together these album covers secretly hates AI and laughs their asses off as they distort the suggestions given by the artists to cartoonish proportions and choose the silliest pictures from the photoshoots (see: Blake, Cook, Jordin, Adam.)

just saw and laughing at this thread. My first reaction to the cover was disappointment because it was so bland and boring. I love Adam’s eye makeup: Great colors. Adore the shock of blue hair. The chains against his wrist are great. The photoshopping works for me. I expected that as this is Adam. It just seems like a boring pose and background. Some context or shock value would have been nice.

Then I come into this thread and see that Adam just being himself in make-up with a boring glamor shot pose seems to be enough to have given quite a few people shock value. And now I’m not sure what to think….except I really do wish he’d pushed boundaries a bit because despite people’s shock and dislike of the feminine aspects to the shot I think long term that it’d be better if they’d gone more artsy with the context and used thought provoking and interesting background contrast and pose.

  • RONTEX

Are we really sure that this is the actual cover and not some fan made art?

These things always “leak” and often end up not being legit ( Brittany anyone)

  • Ceddies

Half an hour has passsed, and I’m still not feeling this cover. It does not in any way remind me of a glittery alien from any planet. Just another airbrushed female model–probably a blonde with a blue light reflecting on her hair.

That said, I will say this. I have liked all of the photos of Adam when he was made up as a woman and have saved all of them to my computer along with my many other favorites. I just don’t like that he/they chose to present him as a woman at this time. Do they think appearing as a woman would help sell to the straight males? I don’t see androgeny here at all.

I have a lump in my throat right now, think I feel that something has died in me. Thought I was ready for whatever ride he took us on, but I wanted him to be Fierce. Lady Gaga and Pink are feminine/female–but fierce. I wanted and expected OTT, not some wimpy female model!!!!

Doesn’t dampen my desire for his music though.

  • Mark

It’s not that I’m shocked about the album cover. I know it’s Adam Lambert, and I know he’s going to try to take it to the edge. It’s just a bad cover. It’s shockingly bad.

I basically agree with this. It’s not that it’s “edgy”, because the cover is anything but. It’s just… dumb. The color scheme reminds me of those quick spray-paint pictures you can get on city streets, and about as artistically made. Like it cost 2$ or something.

(That said, I’m not buying into the gender-bending of any of this. It looks, to me, basically like Adam, and I don’t see it being “too feminine” or any such thing.)

Not, mind you, that I really care about the cover (it’s the music that will make or break for me, and right now I’m actually looking forward to the tracks that Lindsay sampled), but it’s just like… really? I thought he could do something really cool and interesting (and maybe even edgy) and this isn’t any of the above.

“”just cannot think of a single time when buying any of the 300 plus albums and 100 CDs that I have accumulated in my 43 years that I ever had a prolonged thought about the cover.”"”

Neither can I come to think of it until this cyber world popped up in the last couple of years, for me, at least – I just look for the artist name, grab the cd , rip it open, put in in my cd case and the cover usually gets lost somewhere, never to be seen again

  • aa618892

This is sooooo entertaining…….wait, oh yeah!

  • progression

While I completely agree that what matters is the music, I am shocked at how bad that cover is – clichd, outdated and really amateurish looking. I don’t see it as edgy at all – it reads very young and very feminine to me. Is the target market tween girls and only tween girls? I’d hide it under the tampons at the cash register personally.

RCA didn’t do Adam any favors with this one IMO.

  • LeeTravers

Mischa’s take (last page – 7:06 p.m) was the best yet BY FAR. Congrats.

I’m now studying to try to figure out what the humongous glowing head is floating on. It kind of looks like he’s bare chested but deformed? Is that just a random mountain of glowing pink sparkly flesh that his giant head is growing out of? What IS it?

I still think it’s funny and I hope Adam doesn’t attempt album too many covers like this in the future (dude’s not getting any younger and at some point, this look will become tragic).

  • greeneyedlady

The other cool thing about this cover, for those who don’t like it, is that we can be sure that the cover of his second album will be completely different!!

it`s so adam, i love it!!!

  • listen

Haven’t read all the comments yet, but wanted to share what my guy said when he saw the cover (after he got over his WTF moment).

Point of View from my guy: (a liberal and not homophobic, middle-aged male who tends toward Rock music and likes Adam):

…… My guy said he actually would think twice about buying this at the sales counter. And he owns plenty of Bowie, Elton John, etc. He thinks this cover is really going in the wrong direction to capture the male audience. Yes, my guy knows the cover doesn’t mean much with regards to the music inside BUT, he is kinda shocked Adam went for that look. My guy said he thinks the cover is ‘ill-chosen’ . He said the photo with the hand on the side of his head looks like Adam is posing for a ‘prom-type’ photo. LOL
And as I said, my guy likes Adam.

I too, am hugely disappointed. This cover takes all Adam’s edginess away, strips him of his masculinity and there is no fierceness in that photo. Adam has so many amazing, fierce-glam photos that could have been used instead. And besides all that, it is way too photo-shopped for me. And what a boring composition, no intrigue. Adam is such an interesting person and none of that is captured in this cover.

His eyes sure are pretty, though. :-)

If the Wall Street Journal endorses it, how controversal can it be?

Again. don’t think it is shocking. Just poorly produced.

except I really do wish he’d pushed boundaries a bit because despite people’s shock and dislike of the feminine aspects to the shot I think long term that it’d be better if they’d gone more artsy with the context and used thought provoking and interesting background contrast and pose.

All aboard the crazy train. I’m not giving up my seat for anything.

^THIS^ Couldn’t have said it better myself. I was laughing out loud in the bus reading the comments, for some reason even the negative ones made me happy !
I LOVE the cover, it’s like a love child of Kris and Allison’s albums (the covers, the photoshop) but with a dash of Adam – I love the space thing, the de-sexualized (but Oh so pretty !) art, yup, a throw back to the 70′s and 80′s but Adam’s nonetheless.
The cover makes me happy, almost as if the alien has arrived and we have lift-off…
I am not sure who Blake is and can’t be bothered to go and look up his album cover, so not sure about that comparison, but it is interesting how much controversy Adam seems to ignite, the Details cover was too hetero and masculine, this is too feminine, whatever.
This is actually better than I expected and it certainly ties in with what he has been saying, but I guess we only hear what we want to hear, nothing wrong with that ! :)

  • adamaloha

    This is a great day.

I finally have Details mag in my hot little hands. Adam looking hot and making out with a woman.

And I have a gorgeous, otherworldly androgynous beautiful alien gracing a cover of an album that’s sure to be just as entertaining and controversial.

    Love it!! Love Adam!!!!!

When I buy it, I’ll plunk it down on the counter in front of the biggest male cashier I can find and tell him to keep the fucking change, bitch

Bwahaha! You know, I’m going to use this album cover for leverage in our household. I’ll threaten my husband that if he pisses me off in any way between now and November 23, I’m going to make him run into Walmart to buy this CD for me. Then, I’m going to tell him he’s got to carry it all the way back to the car without putting it in a bag. He’s a straight guy, and based on what I’m reading here, that would be the height of mortification.

  • Truthiness

Yep. And yep. And that makes me sad AND pissed off at the same time.

Well I’m pissed off and sad for you.

Almost as pissed off and sad as I am about this atrocioius cover. And yes, it’s offical cover. I know it would be nice to think if this was a punk, a la Kris’s phone call, but nope, this is really the really bad cover.

And yeah, Jem is a reference I thought of, and oy, much as I would want my hair to look like Jem, it’s not a good cover art for a new artist.

  • HermeticallySealed

You know, I keep seeing people saying “Cheap” “Amateurish” and such. To me, that seems to be the point; a silly homage to ridiculous covers of the 70′s and 80′s. It’s the love child of a Duran Duran Nagel cover and Linda Ronstadt, married off to Prince.

  • tootheatrical

This thread is moving so fast I’m sure others have already made a lot/all of the same points that I’ve been trying to figure out how to express, but here goes:

My first thot is “right picture, wrong placement.” From a marketing perspective, a sexy/masculine (but still outrageous, edgy OTT) cover with this on the back cover would have inspired the same reaction as he voice does on everything he sings, i.e “Wow! Is that the same guy?????” . . . which is exactly what you want it to do. It’s a case of draw them in first, then surprise (or even shock), after rather than alienate and try to win back later. Then again, he did sing RoF before he pulled it back with ToMT and that worked out ok.

Without over-analyzing it (too late!), this seems to be a case of “Flaming Headdress Adam” getting his own way when they probably should have talked him down from the ledge again. As much as Adam loves being stunning and gorgeous (in his androgyous, yet somehow masculine way), the feminine, ethereal artist side of him has always wanted to be pretty and beautiful — especially in contrast to the “Ugly Duckling” image he had of himself in high school. And we know how he likes to push buttons just to push them . . . (And since he always does the opposite of what we expect, he was probably just going thru the previous thread about him being such a masculine alpha male underneath it all that he thot “Oops — they’re on to me — time to mix it up again!”)

Happily, this won’t stop any of us from buying it, but we’re not the ones he needs to appeal to. He could have easily brought in a whole new market with a more “mainstream” cover — which in Adam’s case actually means edgy, unpredictable, and more ambiguous. This actually narrows his image, limits rather than expands his appeal, and puts him in a box (albeit a glttery, beautifully wrapped one), but a box on the outside is still a box and a shiny label is still a label. I don’t think any of us hates the picture — just not as THE definitive, first time out of the gate, introduction to “everyone else.” This is not just another magazine picture soon to be replaced by a polar opposite one in the next layout. (And almost worse than the fans who are disappointed are the ones who like it and say it’s exactly what they expected — regardless of the reason behind what they’re saying, that in NOT a phrase any of us has EVER wanted to hear in the same sentence as Adam Lambert!)

  • rattleandhum

I can’t wait to see the pictures inside the CD!

  • Mark

I just realized adam and his team accomplished their goal: they got everyone talkin. genius.

Not really. I don’t think people are going to be talking a whole lot more about it than would otherwise be the case, and it’s just kinda embarrassing and amateurish. It’s not the kind of buzz that Adam might have gotten out of a more interesting cover. Even the Michelin Man cover would have been at least evocative in a kind of “WTF?” thing on its own terms, not its ineptitude.

  • sunchick

Someone needs to tell Cantiello that the artists do not make their own photoshop choices for the cover art, LOL. I think Cookie and Kelly both confirmed that fact in interviews.

    The cover is art.
It pushes buttons. It is true to Adam himself in its ethereal edginess.

Adam is a beautiful man. That’s how countless people have often described him’“ beautiful. Not handsome, not good looking, not macho’“ but beautiful. Haven’t many of you described him that way?

He doesn’t have to prove his masculinity. He doesn’t have to please us all. He doesn’t even have to use this cover to attract more fans. If he wanted to be all things to all people his cover would be reflect that.

I love it. It makes me wonder what’s behind those eyes. It ruffles up my emotions and makes me realize there is still much to learn about the man, his spirit and his art.

    Beautiful.

OMG: Beautifully stated and totally agree.

  • Cindij

will de-lurk, a few of my artist friends are over painting and we took a break so I could check up on Adam 2 guys straight 1 guy gay, me female – all 4 of us agreed immediately we liked the balls of Adam just don’t like the composition of the frame – hand on face takes your eye to his face-blue hair falling down then the name of the album FYE keeps the eye from falling off the page – the down side is his face on a bare shoulder and the angle of the harsh black shadow, then the bare forearm -totally distracts from the composition and it justs glares at you and doesn’t keep the viewer on the focal point which is his face

  • fanaround

Well, it wasn’t what I was expecting, but I guess that being surprised is part of being an Adam fan, no?

I was expecting more of the Adam looking tall in a fierce jacket, being smirky/snarly screw the mic stand screw the world fierce, rather than Adam looking like he was being pulled into space sort of dreamy.

I think I am also distracted by/ don’t like that even his chest hair is photoshopped out…

  • zippo

    BIG MISTAKE…

‘For Your Entertainment’ drops November 23 via 19 Recordings/RCA.

That’s because it’s a great cover. It does what an album cover should do…. stop you in your tracks and make you wanna sample the music. It’s striking, intriguing, delicious, sinful and above all artistic.

Whether you love it or hate it, this cover will make you reach out for that album and flip it over to read the tracks.

It’s the kind of cover image that will stay in your head after one viewing, more so if you hate it, and eventually it will intrigue you enough to make take a listen. That is all a cover should do, and it does it beautifully.

Whether men buy or not because of the cover I can’t tell. I know this cover will not hinder males buying in Europe or in Asia. In the States I think it will depend on the music.

This cover does it’s job, and it’s beautiful to boot.

    Squeeeeeee.

    ETA:

This cover also speaks Adam perfectly. It is a brilliant cover.

Exactly. It’s not genius to be create a huge amount of buzz by being disappointing and amateurish when people were expecting otherwise. That isn’t good buzz, and yes, there is such a thing as bad buzz. This cover has it, imho.

Point of View from my guy: (a liberal and not homophobic, middle-aged male who tends toward Rock music and likes Adam):

‘ ¦’ ¦ My guy said he actually would think twice about buying this at the sales counter. And he owns plenty of Bowie, Elton John, etc. He thinks this cover is really going in the wrong direction to capture the male audience.

Totally not surprising. On other boards I am seeing a lot of negative reaction from the middling, willling to give Adam a chance people, much less, again, the disappointment within even stan world. The haters have just been given tons of ammuntion.

So not seeing how this cover does Adam any good whatsoever. If he thought the Michelin Man picture and mocking was ‘taken out of context,’ because it wasn’t finished…well dude this is finished and it’s baaaaad.

regardless of your personal opinions it might be wiser to not proclaim doom on this album just yet.. wouldn’t want to have to wipe egg off your face later if it sells like hotcakes.

  • FifthHouseSun

I would have much rather seen him wearing more make-up and glitter in a strong confident pose than with the toned-down make-up and feminine pose.

Which would be what he has been preaching up until now. Sexy is sexy. He’s said “sexy” about this album as often as he’s said “modern feel” and “electronica”.

He could have worn a dress, and still have flaunted his smoldering masculine edge. That would have been controversial. He has always worked the “you know you want me” edge. And now, suddenly, he’s not.

This is a debut album. There is nothing here market-expanding. No originality. Nothing to ignite the minds of people who remember him from Idol. The casual Idol fan is the low-hanging fruit of the torpedoing downward record business. Especially for a holiday season release. You have to think about them. Now. Not be uncreative. Be very creative. But give them the excitement they remember. Not some unrecognizable feminine someone.

People who saw him on Idol, but haven’t followed him since, remember insane talent. Startling range. Originality. And red hot sexy.

Zero of those things are on this cover. This is his debut. This is a wasted, frittered opportunity done for no pay-off. Unless the pay-off is inside. Which is hard to know if you’re a casual fan. Who Adam needs. So we hope the music brings them in, and they download, and who cares about the cover.

Twitter counts not at all tonight. Not one person on Twitter making “I love it!” tweets about this album cover is anything but an inside the bubble Adam fan.

The corporate media are not going to print: “He’s airbrushed and made-up to look as feminine as possible” about the first possible mainstream gay sex symbol. (An angle he chose not to play on his debut album cover.) Again, where is the artitistic reasoning in not maintaining the heart palpitating sexiness on your debut album cover? There is certainly no marketing reason. This is not album number 3. This is his introduction.

And not once, not ever, has Adam said: I’m going to look as girly as possible, that’s who I am.

He has, in fact, said just the opposite. Balance. Androgeny. Mystery. Sexy is sexy. Starlight and WLL. The full spectrum. That’s Adam.

  • Gigi3

    Adam’s pushing buttons BIG time.
    I think he’s happy. 8)

Sad some people think it’s too gay. WTF? You want Adam to stifle his vision to appeal to Wal-Mart shoppers? LOL

FYI, my teenage son said he wouldn’t buy Adam Lambert’s CD, but not because of the cover. He thought the cover was cool. It’s the Idol stigma that is a dealbreaker for him. Snob.

  • suebrody

I totally beat you on THAT tweet, sidewalkstory, BAWAHAHAHA.

Well, as expected, Lyndsey loved it, Cantiello is making fun of it, and Slezak’s being Slezak. ;)

  • adamaloha

The more I gaze at it THE MORE I LOVE IT!!!! Adam truly is the fearless glittery alien so many of us have known him to be.

I can’t wait to see the rest of the art included in the album!!!!! I’m sure they’ll be edgy, beautiful, spacey and weird— and will have people loving or hating.

    Way to go, Adam!!!!

  • luvadamlambert

    awwwwww adam’s going w/Katy

    take that drake;p

tooo much drama I’m going to watch sytycd then see the YouTube of tii laterrrr

  • bootslacrosse

Holy photshop batman. Thankfully, I can download some select songs off of iTunes and skip the cover.

  • Starry

SparklesATL – sorry, if you took it the wrong way, not ALL Drag Queens look sad, some look very blissful and happy. I have seen and known many Drag Queens being a native of San Francisco, Ca – Love them, but many do look like men dressed up as women, which they are – Adam just doesn’t come off that way to me, plus he doesn’t add bosom or tuck, just the makeup and his Natural beauty blazing through ~ so imo, Drag is an inaccurate description.

  • dcglam

Just keep hoping that Adam decided he liked Kris’s vocal coach prank so much, he decided to prank his fans. No matter what the real album cover looks like, people will be pleased.

Love this and so hoping this is the case…….. :)

  • Tara

I keep looking at the CD cover, trying to see a woman. I don’t see it. He looks like a man with very tastefully done makeup.

His lips are parted, his eyes are asking something. Kinda sexy.

I am laughing at myself right now. I sound like a romance novel, lol. or just a “fantard”…

  • birchtree

I`d love to hear Adam`s un-edited take on this cover. Me, I expected something more risque, edgier, more challenging… but perhaps I am just not getting it. But then, `perhaps its just not that deep`. If it is all for our entertainment, then maybe this fluffy air brushed image reflects that. Just have fun. Hmmm.

  • unique28v

Ha. Adam sure isn’t conventional, and I personally love that about him. His music is going to be out of this world too. Hopefully we will get a leak of his first single this week so we don’t have to wait until Monday!

  • luvadamlambert

    tii is at 8:30 right?????

how long will the red carpet thing be????
    ill stop by 8:45…..

  • hollygo9

    In a word: gross.

  • 4evrmomof4

I showed the cover to a hetero late 20 something young man who buys lots of music Kayne, BEP, etc who does not watch idol.

    He said wow, nice cover!

I said idol fans are not liking it..

He said, you know in the music world, idol isn’t cool– this does not look like idol . He said all his friends know an idol cover from miles way, they have a certain look…

I told his fans say it is too feminine & many peeps will not buy it

He said, wow this is cover art– Cover art is not masculine or feminine, it just IS– it is not supposed be how the artist looks walking down the street, it is a fantasy, if his idol fans don’t like it, the rest of us who buy music WILL like it…

Hesaid, this guy is talented, shame if he gets boxed into idol box, would kind of prevent him from being as big as he could me, I think..

Personally, I think this is how this may be received outside of the idol bubble.. I love this cover.

  • IdolThoughts

I am so intrigued to see the rest of the album art!!! And a million times more intrigued to hear the tracks. I think I’ll get a set of giant headphones…buy a thick shag rug and lie on the floor staring at this cover while I listen for the first time!!! Sounds perfect!!!

  • http://www.twitter.com/halfie6 halfie

Going to the premier of a documentary about an androgynous mega-star the day you release your OTT androgynous album cover while taking the “Kissed a Girl” singer as your date?

    Genius.

  • HermeticallySealed

so imo, Drag is an inaccurate description.

I agree whole heartily. This is not Drag, certainly not like any I’ve seen (and i have been to several shows). Androgyny is not the same as Drag.

  • luvadamlambert

    now? FLOVE IT!!!!!

  • 4evrmomof4

If you go to http://www.thisisit.com, it is on now– 8:30 is only mtv/vh1 1/2 show, this show is 1 1/2 hours–I am watching it now

  • AllenTX

Damn, I missed the party. It’s already 400 comments, wtf, lol.

It’s another typical Adam reaction from me. WTF? …….LMFAO……OK you did it again Adam!!!…..Luv ya just for that!

  • http://youtube.com/user/ConcertCameraCat Sparkles

This is the “No Boundaries” of American Idol CD covers.

  • Natasha

And not once, not ever, has Adam said: I’m going to look as girly as possible, that’s who I am.

You do know that before Idol on his myspace he had his gender listed as female, right?

  • ilovenpt123

Huge, huge, huge, huge Adam fan…HATE the cover. Disappointed. Big. Time.

  • dcglam

    I love your friend, 4evrmomof4!! :)

Wow 4evrmomof4 that is great to hear and makes me feel better.

Is it just me or does the font look like the font in Prince’s Purple Rain album cover?

  • suebrody

This is the ‘No Boundaries’ of American Idol CD covers.

    HILARIOUS!!!

I wonder why Adam took Katy and not Drake. Too much “in the spotlight” for Drake? Not that it matters…I just wanna see the livestream. :(

  • alaadam

anyone have the link to the live feed for the red carpet?

  • Truthiness

My last unhappy comment, before I guzzle yet more Snowcap and try and do something less full of pfffft as this cover.

    Adam’s going to the prom:

Well he had the Glamour Shots already done! Oh wait, that’s his album cover.

Fail-y fail that fails a lot.

Oh no, he might be dressed horribly as well! Yikes. Could my day of sorrow as an Adam fan get worse? Magic 8 Ball says Signs point to yes. Sorry, feeling kind of pessimistic right now.

  • rblaha1234
  • hypnoticwhisper

Adam is a gorgeous man, but the picture doesn’t do it for me. I wish he would look more intense rather than feminine and soft. I like it when he’s a bit edgy and masculine.

  • alison8701

    Dude looks like a lady.

I just skimmed and I reckon I’m not the only one.

  • Tess

I just don’t get this I’d be embarrassed to buy it and carry it to the check-out counter. What does everyone think…that some minimum wage sales person is going to equate their masculinity based on the fact that they are buying an album with some person’s face on the cover. Balderdash…and if someone is that insecure they have the problem not Adam.

And if you are embarassed to have his picture on your i-pod then change it. Put some picture of some burley middle lineman on and call it good.

If you hate the cover because of the graphics, or the title, or the color, or the pose, or the photoshopping that’s great…hate on. If you hate the picture because the guy looks feminine…then you were expecting something else. The picture was Adam’s choice and if he wasn’t and isn’t embarassed putting it out there good enough for me…I don’t believe in second hand embarrasement…never have never will.

  • JenOhio

Not what I expected but beautiful.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I don’t like it. But, I’ll probably just be buying a couple of songs, so it won’t be something I have to look at. I’m sure many others will love it.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ Zsus

Wha…. He took Katie Perry, halfie? That’s darling! Can’t wait for pictures.

  • luvadamlambert

    bye guys:)

  • rayni

Don’t like it – reminded me of Boy George. But in the end, what I think matters not one whit.

  • Glamour

As for women who are too disappointed that the picture isn’t butch enough ‘“ Ladies? Adam is gay. And he might be tall and handsome, but he’s still pretty femme. This is Adam. If you need him to look a little more hetero, whip out your copy of Details.

I could not have said it better myself.

Is it just me or does the font look like the font in Prince’s Purple Rain album cover?

You are correct. That is one of the reasons I see this as a very intentional look.

  • FifthHouseSun

I too, am hugely disappointed. This cover takes all Adam’s edginess away, strips him of his masculinity and there is no fierceness in that photo. ….And what a boring composition, no intrigue. Adam is such an interesting person and none of that is captured in this cover.

Yes, and why? Art is not achieved. Marketing goals are not achieved. What expansion of the future is brought by this Pink Sister moment?

My first thot is ‘right picture, wrong placement.’ From a marketing perspective, a sexy/masculine (but still outrageous, edgy OTT) cover with this on the back cover would have inspired the same reaction as he voice does on everything he sings, i.e ‘Wow! Is that the same guy?????’

This would have had some idea at least. Much more interesting publicity. Twice the length of segments on the entertainment news show. Would have created intrigue.

  • jack5791

    Ew

  • Kipper

YIKES! Whoever said it looked like GLAMORSHOTS is right on! Can’t believe this is what they went with!!!

  • adamlover

i adore adam, i will buy his cd no matter what the cover looked like…he has more talent than anyone in my opinion. However, i cant help but be disappointed in this cover, i just dont want to be disappointed in the music.

  • SparklesATL

Adam just doesn’t come off that way to me, plus he doesn’t add bosom or tuck, just the makeup and his Natural beauty blazing through ~ so imo, Drag is an inaccurate description.

    Well, when you put it that way :D I totally agree with you. Most of the guys I know tape their pecs together for cleavage; a more natural look. LOL;

Drag queen is not what Adam is. I think he would say, “I like to dress up pretty”
