I juust saw Adam in the Donor’s Choice vid. So much for the facial hair being a weekend disguise. I guess I’ll have to learn to live with it. Not willingly, of course.

It was mentioned above that some may have put their donations on credit cards. Those donations would not be tax deductible unless the credit card charge was paid by the end of the year. Individuals (as opposed to corps) are cash-basis taxpayers. Which means you can only get a deduction for that which you have actually paid.

DonorsChoose was a great choice! I was impressed with their website and how they made sure that monies donated were actually used to purchase what the teacher requested.

Just another 2 cents and personal view on Q3 and NewFan‘s posts about different ways of learning:

My family has a lot of very intelligent folk in it, but there’s a lot of dyslexia and some of us have NO innate memory skills. Pretty much everything I needed to know for biology I memorized by setting to music. I learned fractions from piano notation, not from stupid class drills. My dad taught me how to estimate distances and understand physics by pictorial visualization. To this day, I have to draw scientific concepts to understand them. Presentations, new research proposals, and reports *start* with my crappy artwork. If I can’t put a concept into pictures, all the equations and math in the world won’t pull it together. It’s just the way my brain works [shrug], but its been pretty successful for me.

Hence my reasoning for why music and art is as important as science and math. For me, at least, the fields feedback upon each other and I need both the left and right brain input to be successful. Probably TMI, but its why I’m such a proponent of the arts in school.
