Adam Lambert Endorses Chinese Video Game (VIDEO)

Check out this commercial Adam Lambert shot in China, endorsing a video game called Rift: Planes of Telara!

Defeat all the experts to be the Idol of America! You go, Adam. Overseas endorsements for the win!

Check out the official web page here.

  • bridgette12

Happy for Adam, hope this is start of many more endorsements. Hopefully them supporting one Idol will open the door to many more getting opportunities also.

  • HermeticallySealed

Rift is a bit too WoWish for my tastes, but good money for him, though.  Those Asian product endorsements are some good money.

  • Emmy

He’s so cute. And yay $$$$$$$

  • Kirsten

Teleprompters for the win! Was this filmed in a hallway?

  • suenigma

Hahaha! Adam is love, and that commercial is hysterical. The fact that he kept a straight face is a testament to his professionalism.

  • HermeticallySealed

LoL  probably.  There were several others doing the same promo, so they probably just lined them all up and shot one right after the other. Kind of surprised that they didn’t put more effort into it, honestly.  Rifts made a decent bank on it’s initial release internationally.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

IKR!? LOL!  I mean, damn, the company couldn’t bother to put together a decent commercial?  It’s so obvious Adam is reading from a teleprompter.

But good on him for landing a sweet endorsement deal.

  • bridgette12

Official Weibo: Adam Lambert has officially accepted Shenda Game’s
invitation to be newest spokesperson game’s official launch China March 6

  • YankeeFan08

It must not have been easy for him to keep a straight face.

I’m sure this endorsement put some nice $$$ in his pocket!  So YAY!

  • standtotheright

I’m impressed he managed to carry off a monologue that sounded like the prelude to some kind of spirit quest that went through a couple of cycles of Google Translate. (Baidu Translate?) Hell, maybe that’s what it was.

    Enjoy the bank, AL!

  • MellyPer1692

I think this may be something they play in the stores, looking at Dwayne Wade’s spot, much shorter and edited more:

    http://www.riftscene.com/reports/rift-china-dwyane-wade-promo-trailer/

Dang, 8 figures for Dwayne Wade…also in a plain room lol

There are three Spokespeople fr Rift, Dwayne, Maggie Q and Adam!

    http://www.mmoculture.com/2013/02/rift-china-2nd-spokesperson-revealed-as-open-beta-nears/

from the article “According to reports, Dwyane Wade represents American sports, MaggieQ represents American TV and the final spokesperson will be a singer, representing American music. Shanda is heavily relying on the awards RIFT has won in America to promote the game in China, which stays as a P2P title. RIFT China enters Open Beta on 6th March next month”

    Nice gig Adam!!

  • bridgette12

If they are officially paying Dwayne Wade eight figures to be a spokesman, Adam has to be getting seven figures. That’s good money and hopefully this is just the beginning of endorsements coming from China.

  • ANNIEBA

Lol, yeah the video is a little, shall we say, casual. But he still looks cute and I can imagine the dollar signs in his head were distracting him, haha. Hope this is only the beginning of Asian endorsements for Adam!

  • jobeob987

LOL, Adam is working that teleprompter!  Seriously, though, I love his confidence, his ease and his willingness not to limit himself.  I think the man could sell anything.  :-)  Good for him!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HWRPW434YQTROZ3J5E4BSLWEYM H.A.

Lol at Adam. He’s such a trooper. Get it Dang Dang!

  • seashellz51

Im still chuckling at the lines Adam had to say in this.  “Til I am defeated…who cares.” :)  Hey, if it puts some $$$ in Adams’ bank acct… I say go for it. I read somewhere yesterday that this is the biggest video game licensing deal in China.

  • MellyPer1692

I love the header with the 3 of them :)

    http://rift.sdo.com/web4/index/index.asp#

  • Kirsten

If they are officially paying Dwayne Wade eight figures to be a spokesman, Adam has to be getting seven figures.

If they are paying Dwayne Wade eight figures for that commercial, they are wasting their money. You have to balance the wages for the endorser with the costs of the commercial. That Wade commercial is total bush-league. Kids with a little bit of software can and do make better looking commercials than that. Look at Nike – big wages for endorsers combined with high quality advertising material yields success.

Maybe Dwayne’s 8 figures is for a general endorsement deal and that is just an early teaser. Because that commercial looks like it costs about 20 bucks to make.

  • lexa

Just love him!  Him “speaking” Chinese had me really laughing.  But he is so cute he pulls it off.

Hope this leads to other things also!

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

When they say 8 figures, that’s in YEN, right?  So say 10 million yen would be like 1 million dollars.

  • mmb

I don’t think these videos are meant to be TV commercials.  I think they are more likely in-store point of purchase videos, or internet only things

  • Kirsten

When they say 8 figures, that’s in YEN, right?  So say 10 million yen would be like 1 million dollars.

Yen would make sense because it would actually be about 170K USD. But, why Yen? It’s a Chinese commercial so they probably would talk in Yuan (although, the symbol for Yuan and Yen are the same).

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I hope the games are not made in Chinese labor camps…

  • Aavari

LOLOLOL!! When I heard the rumour yesterday that Adam has some sort of promotional/endorsement deal for a Chinese video game, I had all these visions of an animated (or anime!) version of Adam, or some very slick live video, or…well, not this. lol, my dreams have been crushed.

But yay for more money in Adam’s bank account!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HWRPW434YQTROZ3J5E4BSLWEYM H.A.

    Chinese Publisher Shanda Games

According to additional information from website MMO Culture, Shanda Games paid an 8-figure sum in US dollars to hire the basketball player. GameSpot is currently reaching out to Shanda Games for clarification on this payment.

    http://m.gamespot.com/news/rift-china-publisher-hires-miami-heats-dwyane-wade-as-spokesperson-6404395

  • HermeticallySealed

I think you’re just joking, but rest assured, Rift is an American produced game. However, China has huge restrictions on MMO’s that require a separate launch for their country for many game companies.

  • Kirsten

But yay for more money in Adam’s bank account!

Definitely. 6-7-8-whatever figure amount, he was definitely paid enough to make that 15 minutes worth his while. Plus, it is great to even be considered a spokesperson.

  • MellyPer1692

No, the 8 figure was in US dollars per the article.

  • jammasta

I have a strange vendetta against MMORPGs, but I do like seeing Adam Lambert endorse one. I wonder if he actually played that game.

  • MellyPer1692

Lol, I’m sure that these intro vids aren’t the only things they’ll be doing. It’s a campaign and this just started.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HWRPW434YQTROZ3J5E4BSLWEYM H.A.

I bet Adam never even heard of the game let alone play it but I’m sure he’ll learn quick. lol

  • HermeticallySealed

LoL Did Warcrack take someone dear to you? I don’t really see Adam as the MMO player, myself. He seems more of a LARPer.

  • Nadine_Bitch

He’s so hot on that vid.

    Yeah, go Adam!

  • Chicagolaw

    Good for you, Adam!

Kind of hilarious and cute at the same time.

  • Miss Chaos

Ha, Adam could have been on a guyliner ad, or perfume ad, a la Adam Levin, or the Beibs, or hot stud clothing ad, or boots, or hair color, and he gets a video game,  oh Adam, you are just so cute, put that money in the bank, so you can do some US non Touring, you do have fans over here ya know!!!!!!!!:)

  • bridgette12

He looked good, nice outfit, rocking the eyeliner and hair perfect. HOT!!!

  • bridgette12

He looked good, nice outfit, rocking the eyeliner and hair perfect. HOT!!!

  • Axxxel

Visions/dreams can come true !! Adam does sometimes look like an anime character, especially in his earlier days with his spiky hair or even today with his trespassing jacket.

  • Axxxel

I remember once Adam admitting in an interview that he was hooked on Angry Birds…

  • Axxxel

Adam does things that we least expected… Remember the Idol days…when Simon was so sure that Adam was going to do “Donna Summer” during disco week ?

  • Axxxel

Then again, if this is the beginning of a campaign… then maybe we will be able to see Adam in an advertisement doing cosplay !! and we all know how Adam loves to dress up !!

  • Axxxel

” and be cuckoo on stage”   …. yeah !!

  • Bbabie

    Hi Everyone,

OK that ad made me giggle:-) Well done Adam on getting an endorsement for a video game. Its a start in this huge chinese market.

While am at it, I might as well add this: The Chinese movie market has grown by 30% and is the third movie market behind Japan and Hollywood. China is the next fronteer for the movie industry. James Cameron and co are making a go of it.

What am trying to say is China and the rest of Asia seems to love Adam. He fits in. He has the looks, attitude+Beauty. Maybe he can start a movie career from there. I see opportunities with the right project:-)

    Thanks,

    Regards

    B-Babie
    xx

  • lovetheusa1776

So funny – who woulda thunk a video game endorsement!  Never know with this guy.  Lovin’ it.

  • lovetheusa1776

His face is so perfect he almost looks like he could be a character in the game.

  • sdmama

I would not have thought of Adam Lambert if somebody asked me, who would like to get in the ad for my computer game? Why? Does game have anything to do with Adam, the singer? Arnold Schwarzenegger eating cup o’Noodle in Japanese hakama made more sense than this. This is the oddest combination of two things I have seen.

Actually, this is a great news.  I think this is a proof that Adam made a popular celebrity status in China.  Since he is so popular, just sticking him in it makes a good ad. Seen it in Japan, too.  It’s almost like a sign that you made it!

  • http://twitter.com/svmreiter Susan Reiter

    Yaya! Go Adam : )

  • roarpen

That is freakin hysterical. I’m sure he plays video games like that all the time – not. LOL

  • Miz

I cannot imagine Adam playing a MMORPG ever. I imagine he’d like some of the armor though.

Isn’t Rift a competitor of Sony?

    (This commercial is pretty cheesy)

  • MellyPer1692

Rift is the name of the game, not the company. The Company name is Trion Worlds Inc and some of their games are for the Sony PS3 platform, so I imagine Sony’s okay with them :)

What I think is awesome is that the marketing campaign was to take 3 Americans, one representing Sports (Dwayne Wade), one representing movies and TV (Maggie Q) and one representing music (Adam!!!!!). How fantastic for him and what a great opportunity!!

Just read that they just released more tickets for the Shanghai concert and they are selling fast!! So happy for him :)

  • ANNIEBA

I know it’s silly, but I really want to know what kind of money Adam is making with this deal, lol. I agree with whoever said he has the perfect face for a character on one of these games. It is so symmetrical and arresting. I would probably play that game, haha.

  • Axxxel

If there is a videogame featuring an Adam-like character, it would be called “Outlaws of Love” and he will be fighting demons and dragons to get to a beating heart that is chained in a wooden pirate trunk and hidden in a castle or on the bottom of the sea….

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R37UM43PITK7QU5SHTDWSU7SNA emme

Whatever pays the rent Adam….you do look adorable!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

China is treating Adam well! This endorsement deal is nothing but win! His promoters (Mercedes Benz & Hennessy) for this gig also put him in the Presidential Suite of the hotel he is at. 9K US dollars a night! “Livin the life!”

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_R37UM43PITK7QU5SHTDWSU7SNA emme

BTW…Chinese money is not Yen, That is Japanese money. Chinese money in RMB or renminbi.  We should know that since in they will own us in about 15 years.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

Also known as Yuan. Easy to mix up the 2 words, I think :) Then Hong Kong uses their own currency, the Hong Kong dollar!

  • Miss Chaos

Looking at the pictures again, they kinda made him Chinese looking with his eyes, especially, except for his blue eyes, and his hair.  They should have had him put brown contacts on, maybe this is why they they hired him, kind of a mystery looking Chinese person.

  • http://twitter.com/Quu3 Q3

This endorsement deal is with Trion Worlds Inc. a US Company headquartered in California — to introduce an American mega-game into China. This is a US deal, done in US dollars.

This deal is also a big deal. China is the biggest market for MMORPG games in the world — “China is home to more than 150 million gamers who collectively generate half of the global PC online games revenue, and….” Fortune est. the 2012 China MMO game market size at $6.1 billion.

    Source: http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2012/06/06/booming-chinese-mmo-games-market-forecast-to-generate-6-1-billion-in-2012/

  • MissMyEm

I might have misinterpreted this, but it seems like a pretty violent video game.  I’m sorry that Adam is endorsing something I wouldn’t let my kids play.

  • lovetheusa1776

Recommended that children not play any video games – violent or not.

  • lovetheusa1776

There are asians who, because of intermixture, have blue or light eyes.  Can picture Lambert as a Mongol war lord – in certain photos the upward turn of his brows and narrow eyes add to that.

  • Miz

These games are all rated 18 and older. However, many kids play them and nobody checks IDs. I’d be less concerned about the violence and more the interactions with other players. Some players are downright raunchy and cruel.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

Their parents should be the ones who are watching what they do, then. Just like with anything else that is available on the internet or to adults in general, parents are the ones who are responsible for making sure young children aren’t participating in things they shouldn’t be involved with.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

Good for Adam. If he can manage to make it big in places like China and continue to get these types of endorsement deals, he will be set for years to come. I bet he is making way more on this overseas tour and with the private events and endorsement deal, than he could have made on another extended tour in the US.

This way, Adam gets back in the studio faster and he’s had the unique opportunity of expanding his fanbase and source of income in areas that will continue to help him in future eras.

  • lovetheusa1776

“back in the studio faster” – ah, music to my ears – both ways.

  • MissMyEm

I kind of disagree.   I think there are video games that are acceptable.  Not all are violent.   I just feel that there is enough violence in the world without video games sanctioning that.

  • lovetheusa1776

Yes – there are video games that “are acceptable.”  The question is should children be wasting time on these as opposed to doing something better.  Like reading a book.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

Yes, there are video games that are violent. There are also TV shows on regular networks that are violent, not to mention what you can see on cable or the premium channels. (talk about graphic violence!) There are songs and mvs from artists in every corner of the world that are violent. The nightly news is violent. Many of this year’s Oscar nominees and winners were violent movies.

It’s up to each individual to decide which forms of entertainment they are comfortable with and it is up to the parents of young children, preteens, or even teens to monitor what type of entertainment they are being exposed to. As an adult, you have a choice. As a parent, you have a responsibility to your children.

  • http://twitter.com/shoriagirl Shoriagirl

I don’t think Adam is in a position to choose what to endorse. Gotta make money somehow.

  • MellyPer1692

Lol, everyone is in a position on what to endorse. Considering he’s playing for great crowds overseas, I think he’s doing alright lol.

  • http://www.facebook.com/barbls23 Barbara Schneier

I love how Adam frames in terms of music! I bet he plays the game! He loves a challenge!! So happy for him that he got this endorsement and hope there are more to come!! Adam is so adorable!!

  • milwlovesadam

Whether Adam plays it or not, whether video games are violent or not, I’m not gonna say anything.

As a mom who resisted getting games and who eventually realized that they would play them, if not at my house, but someone else’s house, it is a tough thing in this technology driven world these days.

I’m just glad to see Adam being embraced by Chinese media and having the opportunity to make big bucks.

  • mmb

Actually Adam has specifically stated that his team regularly fields lots of endorsement and other offers but that they turn lots of stuff down because its not “right” for him. This is not the first endorsement Adam has had. He and his team do, in fact, choose what to endorse.

  • LC Newengland

Adam must be raking in the dough! He is always getting endorsement deals and he’s doing arena sized venues internationally. Good for you Adam! So happy he is doing so well.

  • bridgette12

I love the Miami Heat and Dwayne Wade, he’s having a great year, hopefully repeating as NBA again. Happy that Adam has been asked to be part of such a lucrative enterprise. The most important thing, he keeps on making music and traveling the world.

  • Miz

Of course it is the parents responsibility to monitor what their children under the age of 18 are doing. The raunchy and cruel players are often in the 14 to 18 age range, btw.

I know some very good parents who play WITH their children but don’t allow them to communicate with anyone but an approved list of people.

  • Tess

Parents should monitor and guide their own kids and they shouldn’t expect the “world” to do it for them.  If Adam, or any adult for that matter, likes what they are endorsing they shouldn’t have to think beyond their own personal scope of reference as long as what they are doing isn’t illegal or downright immoral.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_S3ZGXZCUE2YYOS7QV6QSTKM4SA buffynut2001

So OT, but since I didn’t start it, I will contribute. The key to any child’s activity is balance. I am a teacher & I think video games are fine. I think TV is fine too. But they have to be balanced with other activities for the body, mind, & spirit. All 3 of my kids grew up watching TV and playing video games. They are wonderful adults. My son, is now a video game producer for a large, well known company. Doubt he would be doing this if it hadn’t been that he’s been playing since the 4th grade.
As far as Adam’s endorsement, Asian endorsement deals are big. It’s where the money is. It’s hard for us to imagine the size of the population of China. I mean just that figure for the audience of the TV show he did was mind boggling. Adam is an adult, the game is for adults, I see no problem with this endorsement. It is 100% win!

  • Roger Richard

a masterpiece both in written form and meaning surely has a price. but keep working. move on ..
