This does not seem like a good pick for Danny. I also grew up in the 80s and know TTD, but I didn’t know this song. Listening to a bit of it, it doesn’t seem like an amazing song. Average voters in America like to hear a song that they know. If’s it’s anew song they’ve never heard, it needs to be stunning in some way – ethereal like “Mad World” or simplistically beautiful like “Falling Slowly”. I think that if Kris gets a better song choice, Danny could be in real trouble because he won’t pick up as many casual votes.

Vocally Danny ‘may’ be able to pull this off but there is no way he can approach the coolness that is TTD! Despite it being a somewhat old & obscure song, Paula may have chosen a decent fit for his voice (except for the scream of course LOL).

It got into the UK Top 20 and the album was number 1, Terrence Treng Darby was very popular in the UK so I would think that Simon’s aware of it.

“Apologize” is very promising for Kris. The first positive thing is that Kris probably already knows the song (while I’m sure Danny’s never heard of TTD before, much less the song). With some Kris-style rearranging, perhaps guitar rather than piano? — and Kris’s ability to connect organically to his material & emote — this could be really, really good.

Adam may have not received his spoiler yet. I’m sure the radio guys would have asked if he has. I know last year Syesha didn’t receive her spoiler until she was in the parade.

I always liked the song “Apologize”, but I am kinda wondering why of all songs they chose this….esp. since it was just done at the Finale last year, and the song has been worn out. However, I have faith that Kris will be able to maybe change it up or put his own spin on it…whereas David didn’t really change it up last year from what I remember. It has potential definitely…but still a tiny bit disappointed in choice.

“Stop and Stare” is familiar. It did very well on Top 40 and HAC… in fact – at least where I live – it almost reached the overplayed-ness of “Apologize”.

Yes, the penguin song was the producers’ choice. Randy chose an Alicia Keys song, which she was just okay on IMO. Slightly shouty.

mj: ITA. This is 100% about how well Kris can get into the song emotionally because his strongest weeks have been when you can see when he’s feeling the song like Falling Slowly. He’ll be likeable singing this song and IMO if he does it well he’ll make people want to throw him some votes. He just needs to take care of the vocals and if he can bring a little new twist to it that’d be even better.

I don’t see Kris making the finals even though I’d rather see him there than Danny, but I hope he goes out with a couple really strong performances.

MJ, I agree completely. Archie didn’t do well in that duet with One Republic.

I have to say though that Apologize is at least 10 times better than Dance Little Sister.

I don’t think we can realistically expect Gokey to crash and burn this week. After the Scream heard around the world, he has the huge benefit of diminished expectations on his side. He now only has to be mediocre to be consider Great!

I expect Kris to do well too, although I do not think they should have chosen an Archie song for him.

Kris is known for making songs sound completely different. So I think Apologize could work.

I do think Archie’s version was memorable though. It was the first time he sang a current song convincingly. That’s why it stuck out in my head. I had to strain to remember what the duet with Cook was, they were both kinda just there on that song IMO.

The judges haven’t really compared performances this year to past Idol performances and Apologize wasn’t even one of Archie’s MOMENTS or a performance he was judged on. I’m shocked, shocked they picked a current, well known song for him. At least it’s not a penguin song LOL

The thing I remember most about Archie singing Apologize is Sarah’s recount of Ryan Tedder’s hilarious story about singing Apologize on Idol. They wanted him to gaze longingly into Archie’s eyes or something while singing the duet.

The song Kris chose for himself will probably be a bit more interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes with James Morrison. Contestants pick songs, all the time, that have been done before on American Idol and very rarely is the fact that it has been sung before brought up. In fact on rat pack night all 4 of the songs had been done before. And Danny has been notorious at picking songs that have been overdone and overcooked.

So far, I think both of these songs, if true, should do well for Danny and Kris. I’m more interested in what they pull out for their individual songs. That should give me a hint at what kind of performer they want to be.

Besides, contrary to popular opinion not all AI fans are David Archuleta fans, most didn’t go to last years Idol tour, and most viewers don’t go to YouTube everyday like we do.

Yeah, the growly vocals fit Danny’s voice but he’ll have to bring the ‘tude and I can envision a lot of awkward dancing and thrusting. Is there really a scream at the end? Oh, goody. I don’t know what to think about Kris’s choice. I think he’s good at taking an older song and making it sound current, but here he’ll have to take a somewhat current song and make it sound “different.” And I’m guessing he’ll have to do his own arrangement ’cause I don’t think there are many alternative covers of this? IDK. With two songs, the home visit, the group number, how much time to these guys really have?

Lack of freshness/surprise factor for some Idol viewers, having been performed on finale and on tour by Archie. While I think the chorus of fans’ of previous Idols saying “that’s our guy’s song!” doesn’t matter much to the public, perceptions about “making a song your own” matter. The perfect judges’ choice song is generally one that is really widely known, yet seems very fresh for the contestant — a la Your Face last year for Cook

Doesn’t allow for Kris’ skill at creative arrangement. But that usually happens in the final rounds as the producers assume tight control of the last few outings. Even David Cook was only able to swing one really fresh arrangement (the beautiful The World I Know) from Top 4 to Finale last year.

Something more original from singer/songwriter land –John Mayer or a less known Mraz song like Life Is Wonderful–might have had more of an emotional range, allowing for the showstopper effect of Falling Slowly, but the odds of the judges knowing any of these would be very low, so we’ll have to rely on Kris’ contestant choice for that.

And be freaking grateful it’s not the Theme from Finding Nemo.

Well, Kris gives each song his own flair and I’m quite excited to hear how he’d make the judge’s choice his own. Though I do think needs to work doubly hard for him to secure at least a final 2 slot. Unless Danny gives us another perfect psycho scream.

I also don’t think the audience will think of Archie’s Apologize, especially when it was a performance in the finale, in the middle of dozens of other performances, that’s really not the problem.
My only concern is if they say it’s Karaoke or something like that. Or if they say something about his voice. At first glance, doesn’t seem a bad choice… but we never know what’s going on in their manipulative heads.

I’m an Idol freak and liked Archie but I never remember that he did that song. Hell, he held the hand of the girl sitting next to me while singing during the tour and I forgot he sang it then too. Therefore, I expect zero backlash; what will DA’s fans do, vote for anyone other than Kris just because he was given a song to sing? Doubtful. I think Kris will rework this and it will be awesome, because let’s face it, overplayed to death or not, it’s a good song that he can connect with.

Just a question? Why a repeat of last yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s song or weird song choices? Isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t AI getting other good songs cleared?

Although we’d all rather see our faves get songs that are good songs AND haven’t been done on Idol before, the producers don’t agree. They’ve often given even repeats to Total Chosen Ones. Cook got Don’t Want To Miss a Thing, Archie got Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me even though those had each been done three or four times before and DLTSGDOM had been one of Clay Aiken’s big numbers.

So the fact that it’s repeat is probably not a dig at Kris. The producers’ and judges have really narrow tastes. They love Ryan Tedder cause he’s written for a billion pop stars, including a lot for the Idol stable. Kind of a male Kara.

I don’t consider myself a casual viewer & I have zero recollection of Archie singing Apologize last year. I really only care about what Adam will sing. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gokey leaves this week (ooh – the shock) and then an AK finale, which is fine w/ me. If that happens, I expect Kris to win because he will inherit a lot of Gokey’s votes, and it seems to me that whoever the long-term front runner is does NOT win most of the time. So either of those two are fine w/ me.

I think Apologize is an excellent choice for Kris. It plays to his strengths (dreamy swoony intimate vocals), it’s current and it’s not in his ‘folky-Mraz-Mayer-Johnson-Castro’ box.

The local Fox station is following Danny’s day in Milwaukee, just showed him at his church. A few minutes after apologizing that he couldn’t sing because he had to save his voice for the mini-concert later, he’s leading the congregation in a gospel prayer song; the place is going crazy.

Don’t count Danny out… “Dance Little Sister” is a perfect song for him, his fans love him, and they vote.

Somehow I knew the judges were going to pick Apologize for Kris. I think it’s a great song for him but I would have preferred something less well known. Archie’s version, no big deal, I don’t think it was definitive. But who knows what the judges’ comments will be. (Grrr.)

The thing that worries me about the judges picking a ballad for him is that with only two songs being performed (probably one a ballad and one not), he doesn’t get to choose his own ballad. Since ballads are one of his strong suits, that’s too bad.

For the most part, only invested Archie fans are going to remember or even care that Archie sang “Apologize” last year, and there just aren’t enough of them to make a difference when it comes down to the vote Tuesday night.

If Kris is permitted to re-arrange the song, and is able to connect to the song emotionally, he’s going to be fine.

I think that Idol’s too cheap to pony-up the money to get any additional songs released, so they have to keep going back to the same selections over and over.
Simon and Randy and Paula gave David and Ryan Tedder’s Apologize a standing O last year, btw.

I’m not a Danny fan and never heard the song before, but just listening to that little clip on iTunes, it sounds totally in Danny’s wheelhouse, so I expect him to nail it.

I think Kris will do fine with “Apologize,” although I’m a little surprised they couldn’t come up with something that wasn’t just performed in the finals last season. Fortunately, Americans have short attention spans. Kris can play the piano and I’m sure there are a lot of viewers who like seeing the contestants perform with instruments now that it’s allowed. I would expect him to since I don’t think this would make a great guitar song, and it’s his one big advantage over Danny and Adam.

I don’t know if it matters much since they will FINALLY be doing more than one solo, but there’s a good arguement that Danny deserves it — he has never been last (except as last solo on Top 4). Kris has certainly gotten the worst performance order placements; and Adam the best:

Adam: Last 3 times, 2nd half 7 of 10 – After Danny 6 times, After Kris 7 times
Danny: Last 0 times, 2nd half 5 of 10 – After Adam 4 times, After Kris 5 times
Kris: Last 1 time, 2nd half 3 of 10 – After Adam 3 times, After Danny 4 times

But the producers could still give it to Adam. I think a lot depends on what they think will make the best show. When Kris was absolutely great, “Ain’t No Sunshine” on the Top 9 — he was #9.

Last year David C. was #1/#5 for the Top 4 and then #3/#6/#9 for the Top 3 night. Adam was #1 for the Top 4 show, so … who knows?

I remember last year there was lots of talk about Archie having his father and someone else (vocal coach?) helping him and doing arrangements for him. Maybe the reason they didn’t allow him was cause someone was doing the work for him, which isn’t all that fair.
So maybe they’ll allow Kris to change it up if he wants to. I think he could do really great even without changing the song… it would be an opportunity to actually show something different. If he picks the guitar and goes acoustic it will be just like what he has done before.

True dat. Its just easier to do on a familiar song, or at least one with a catchy chorus or a build to a glory note, that kinda thing. Danny seems like he has a bigger hill to climb starting with a song people don’t really remember, and that isn’t really “showy”. It sounds like it could be fun though. It all depends on how he does it.

I remember last year there was lots of talk about Archie having his father and someone else (vocal coach?) helping him and doing arrangements for him. Maybe the reason they didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t allow him was cause someone was doing the work for him, which isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t all that fair.

As I recall, David’s Dad was already banned from arrangement sessions when David had to sing Longer. Besides, going on youtube to look for other arrangements of a song to use is pretty much the same as having someone help you out.

I hope Adam and/or Simon choose something contemporary for Adam to sing. He hasn’t touched anything from the last 20 years so far.

dcmjlive: WOW, I wondered why that first line of Danny’s part of the duet sounded so effed up to me; the lyrics were completely wrong. So Kris covers for Danny completely and keeps the song together and then gets told he is the inferior singer. Damn. The guy has way more composure than I’ll ever have, haha. Off to watch the video again to catch the body language you mentioned!

At first I wasn’t sure about the song choice for Kris, but after listening to it closely and objectively, it really has a Kris vibe to it. It definitely suggests the judges see him as a contemporary top 40 artist. I think Kris can put his own spin on it and make it his own. The majority of successful recording artists don’t have huge vocals. Big vocals seem to have become a prerequisite for American Idol contestants lately if they plan on being a contender. I believe Michael Sleazak wrote that Simon was stuck in the 90′s with Celine, Mariah and Whitney. I certainly appreciate those show-stopping vocals, but I also can appreciate an understated smooth vocal.

As far as, Apologize over Stop and Stare, I didn’t like Stop and Stare at all. I found it repetitious, annoying. I don’t care for the Jason Mraz/Colbie song either. I bought my daughter the CD and she doesn’t listen to it to often.

When Simon gave a standing O after the duet with One Republic and Archie, I truly believed Simon was giving his love to One Republic, the guy really was terrific. Caught my attention. Archie complemented him well with his vocals, but he was mostly in the background. That said, I do think Archie has a lovely voice. I think Simon remembers the song well. JMHO

I’m perfectly happy with “Apologize” for Kris. Look, I was expecting something horrible and obscure and they gave him current, recognizable and something he can put a little emotion into. I bet Randy had “Ain’t No Sunshine” in mind when he picked this.

I don’t even think he’d have to change it up very much for it to work. It would be awesome if he could learn the piano part fast enough to actually play while singing, but there’s not that much time between now and Tues and I’m sure he’s perfecting his own song choice.

I think Apologize is a decent choice, and actually quite respectful of Kris. They could have given him some old song (and, Man, nothing was worse than the songs David A got last year–I know, I know–move on). But it’s got a beat, it’s got the potential for counter-melody and generally exciting arrangement. And will actually show whether Kris has an inferno in his otherwise easy-going self. (It’s a pretty bitter song; can’t wait to see if Kris has any pissed-off’d'ness in him.)

I bet Simon picks a ballad for Adam. He loves his ballads. Haven’t most of his choices been ballads except for that random song he in Season 6? It was upbeat, but completely unknown on these shores (and frankly, a pile of crap).

The nice thing about a classic ballad is that you can make it your own.

I honestly think that Randy puts the most thought into his song choices. They don’t always work, but you can generally see where he’s going with it. Paula looks like she’s trying and sometimes does okay. Simon’s musical knowledge is about as deep as an ornamental pool in a Hotel Lobby and I’m not sure he really tries at all. I agree that an arrangement is supposed to emphasize ones strengths and downplay ones weakness. However, contestants on AI tend to just flat out copy other arrangements that they found on youtube. Why else would they get called out by the people who made those arrangements?

I’m okay with Kris doing “Apologize”, even though I loved Archie’s performance last year. I really like Archie’s version, but I’ve never thought that he “owned” the song since he never did it on a judging night, and only hardcore Idolites remember he killed it on tour. For Archie it was less of a “Omg epic performance! He’s totally going to win!” and more of a “Omg he can totally be current! Take that non-believers!” Ahem.

I think the style of “Apologize” suits Kris very well. At least it’s something he can own more so than anything he could have done last week where it was just a struggle to hold his own. I was disappointed when the false spoilers on Top Downloads week said Matt was doing the song rather than Kris, so I’m actually pretty excited. I think it’ll be great. It gives me a little bit more hope for that Kradam finale … and it’s not a song about penguins!

At this point, Adam may not win, but I do not believe that he will “fall flat on his face”. He hasn’t used his full vocal range yet, I think he may be pacing himself for the finals.

Ugh, not thrilled about Apologize for Kris, simply cuz that song *was* extremely overplayed in my corner of the world. Everyone was obsessed with it for so long, such that a song I initially thought was cool became something I dreaded hearing.

But I agree that it’s not sabotage, cuz Kris could sound really good if he does an alternate version. That song has actually been covered a ton of times on youtube in various fashions (this is typical of a lot of hit songs these days), so there’s an abundance of ideas on the web– which is a good thing, IMO. I personally think contestants should get credit for pulling off a cool/alternate arrangement of a song regardless of the source (the web, Ricky Minor, whatever).

Wow. Pauler didn’t do Danny any favors with that song. That is a pure funk song in the James Brown/Parliament/Prince mode. Danny’s got a fine voice. I’m sure he can sing the notes. But, funk is all about the rhythm and synchopation. I think the white kid from Milwaukee is going to have a really tough time making that song cook.

I really like the songs selected so far. I think both are excellent choices.

Kris will have no problem making that song sound great, and my bet is that is will be uniquely styled to his voice.

I really don’t hate him, how can you hate somebody you don’t know. I just don’t like his vocal style. I did love his version of Black or White though.

That’s an interesting thought about Simon picking something that will stretch Adam out of his comfort zone. He’s got a huge range, but from what we’ve heard so far, it’s in the counter-tenor sphere, so I submit “Ol’ Man River.” Show tune but definitely not in Adam’s comfort zone. :mrgreen_wp:

But hasn’t Danny been trying to make a song “cook” all season. I’m really trying to think about his song choices and I have yet to recall anything that has a moment or pulled me in emotionally. From what little I know about what he “likes” to sing it seems he likes the rockin and a rollin get the congregation jumpin type of songs. It’s a real shame that he doesn’t have the “it” factor with the dance moves and the body movements to fit his choice of song to the performance. His voice is good but I have yet to see him move outside that Gospel rock genre. It would be really interesting if he would, for his personal song choice, just sit on a chair and attempt to emote a song and not sing in one decibal level.

The Fox16 Arkansas website has a clip of him doing Falling Slowly playing the guitar part himself. It’s awesome! Judging from some of these off-show performances, I think his musical ability and talent is still grossly underestimated by both the judges and the viewers. I hope someone who is at the Little Rock concert can post video clips of all the songs soon.

I’m in-between. I don’t enjoy his tone when he goes really high and I don’t enjoy the visuals when he sticks out his tongue or sneers at me, BUT I think his lower register voice is not bad, and the sneer-less Mad World was perfect. Also, I like that he seems like a really nice guy. He seems smart, grounded, and has yet to say anything that has made me dislike him, which is great. I don’t mind if he wins even though I’ve only enjoyed 10% of his performances, but then again, I don’t have a favorite in this race so that might be it. Thank you for jogging my memory! I did remember Archie killing that song but when I went back and listened to the youtube version of the show performance with One Republic, to my ears neither singer sounded that good (although Archie was defiitely better). But I did go to the Idol tour and Archie was fantastic singing this song and it did cross my mind that it was one of the few times he really sounded current.

Personally, I think this will be a difficult song for Kris to sing. As I said, after listening to that youtube version of the (semifinal?) performance with One Republic? A lot of pitchiness dawg.

TKat, I think you’re exactly right in that, at this point in the show, style is at least as important as vocal ability, if not moreso.

Danny’s got the evangelicals – who gather thousands at a time to sing gospel; some who like his ‘sexy’ voice and possibly a few country fans who don’t get Adam or Kris. Adam’s got the glam-rock, musical theatre and GLBT crowd, in addition to those who find him fresh and exciting. Kris has the folksinger and young, modern-indie vibe crowd.

At this point, the contestants’ vocal abilities are taking a back seat to their real or unintentionally-cultivated images.

All three finalists will go on to some level of success, as will Allison (the teen crowd) and Matt, who will pack in dueling piano bars and the Chicago R&B clubs (in my neck of the woods.)

I know I cant change someones mind on that, sorry for trying but there actually is a term for what he does and it is not screeching – the term is passaggio, the reason his tongue goes out like that is to open his throat in order to be able to actually reach those notes.

It was randy, and the choice does seem randy-ish to me.

I think Kris can make it work. If he lowers the key he doesn’t have to go up into falsetto. Or he can just practice his falsetto REALLY REALLY HARD the next few days, lol. If he can manage playing the piano while singing I think it will be killer.

Sauer, do you mean the Office Pool stats on the right? The higher percentage = person that those participating in the pool think will get voted off next based on where they are putting their points. So right now, people think Kris is next likely, and Adam is LEAST likely to be voted off. Though the stats always change pretty heftily on performance night because most people don’t go in and fiddle with their points until that night.

Also… I’m sure this was said earlier this morning, but is it jinxing it if I hope that the curse of Paula remains intact. If Paula picked for Danny, then Danny doesn’t win… Eeeeeeeeeeep.

All of the top 12 -13 are under their control I believe until the end of the tour. Other than the top 2 who are automatically signed. Then 19 has the first option right to sign any of the rest. no one can sign them unless Idol does not want them up until that point. That is the way it was explained to me once.

I missed that! Kris a soul singer? I think the jugdes have only mentioned like that to Danny and Matt. I believe if he changes the song he may sound better, but last week makes me remembered how avarage his voice is, or probably just because it was rock week.

The “wicked” could also mean it comes from the Broadway show “Wicked.” It’s an odd word that doesn’t pop up in a lot of song titles, so this makes some sense to me. Unfortunately, I’m not familiar enough with the show to know what songs might be candidates.

Going off topic from the thread, but I am responding to the previous post about Adam auditioning for Velvet Revolver. Its possible, but I think more likely Slash wants Adam to sing on his solo cd. Slash’s solo cd has a variety of singers. Adam is likely to continue to be a huge name and Slash is going to want that free publicity. And it would certainly not hurt Adam’s cred either as a rocker to sing on a Slash solo cd.

Well, I’m back from the radio stations where my daughters and I got to see Adam. We were in the studio for the Jeff & Jer part. He was so nice and polite. The handlers rushed him around so much that he didn’t get to sign autographs (except for his elementary school year book), but I did get to talk to his mother. She was so thrilled, as you can imagine. She’s very small.

Adam looked great. The TV definitely does add weight. He’s quite tall, and was dressed so cool. He’s just adorable. His hair had blue tips.

He was asked who he’d vote for if he wasn’t in the final two! LOL. He said he’d base it on that performance because Kris and Danny are both great singers.

He said we’d love the song he picked for himself.

My girls are actually in the youtube video where he does the weather! It was a really fun experience. San Diego is definitely going all out.

The producers probably want Adam to wait to announce the song to draw out the drama. If they could, they’d probably not have him announce at all so his could be a surprise. It’s all about the drama.

I’m starting to wonder if it will be announced at all. Adam has been all about the surprises this year. Simon is quite often surprising – his pick for David Cook was way out of left field. Put these 2 guys together and I’m wondering if the PWTB want to keep the surprise right up to the finale night.

Yay, I knew San Diego would come through for Adam!

I’m telling you, at least where the caucasian population is concerned, it’s like everybody from the midwest moved to the beach. It’s not like L.A. at all in that sense. At least it wasn’t when I lived there in the early 90s. They love all the “hometown” stories.

Went to MCHS to see Adam!
I headed over to MCHS at about 9am and had to park maybe 1/2 mile away. They were letting people go into the visitors side of the stadium and when I got there the side was almost 1/2 full. The stadium seats about 2,500 to 3,000 per side. By 9:15 the visitors side was full. Very warm at Sundevil stadium, in the high 80′s low 90′s. At about 10:15 we see the white stretch limo pull into the parking lot but I am guessing Adam is doing the school tour first, because the students are not in the stadium yet. The middle school students start filing the stadium at about 10:20 and it takes them forever. The HS start filling the stadium at 10:30. Cheerleaders are doing their thing. The dance crew does a routine to a medley of AI & Adams songs. Cute. They announce that there are over 2,300 students there. Probably twice that on our side (no room to move, even exit rows are packed). There are probably 100 people or so lining the hillside. A black SUV enters the stadium and everyone goes nuts until the doors open and it is mayor Jerry Sanders instead. At 11 am they finally start the parade around the stadium with the MCHS 100 piece band leading the way and Adam riding on a red mustang convertible that is swarmed by cheerleaders, dance girls, etc. He gave a short talk, inspirational really, telling the kids it is an example of what you can do if you believe in yourself and don’t quit…and if you feel you can’t because you are weird or different then “screw that”. He sings “Black and White” and “Mad World”, but you could not hear very well, the PA system being what they use for football games. When he finishes, some girl pulls off her shirt (revealing a turquoise bra)and throws herself up on the small stage where one of the Red-shirted MCHS Security guards (not the 400 lb AI bodyguard) catches her in midair and flings her around off the stage. They begin to escort her out of the area, but they have her put on her shirt first and then calmly walk her out of the arena. So while everyone is focused on the girl, mayor Sanders starts talking and presents Adam with a plaque, but can’t hear a word being said so I do not know if he was told his song or not.

I hate to break this to some of you, but the reason Adam sounds as good here as he did during his “Idol” performances is because he was obviously lip-synching. Listen to “Mad World” again; notice no background noise travels into the microphone as it typically would on most live performances. In addition, the track here sounds damn near identical to his studio version. For the record, I really don’t blame the guy for lip-synching here; he needs to rest his voice up for Tuesday.

I would think judges choice would take precedent. And it wouldn’t hold up the announcement. Adam would change his pick, but we would not know about it.

I’m thinking they are holding the announcement for the drama – and our thread alone is over 400 posts big. Just imagine all the other boards out there. Either they will announce later, or they won’t announce at all (for the surprise).

I’m thinking they will announce today though. It would get a lot of people talking negatively about AI if Danny and Kris’s picks were announced and Adam’s was not.

Yeah… that wasn’t the studio version of “Mad World”. I own three versions of that song – Tears For Fears’ original, Gary Jules’ Donnie Darko cover, and Adam’s. Adam drops certain notes lower on the studio recording, and in the video I just watched, impspouse and I noted that he sang it true to the Jules version for the first half of the song before interjecting his own version later.

Um, just a guess, but I would frankly guess that the reason the judge’s choices were being texted is because they weren’t SUPPOSED to reveal what their songs were (I learned a long time ago why two teenage girls text each other while sitting on the same sofa…it’s the closest they can get to telepathy and telling secrets without Mom and Dad hearing), and Danny and Kris screwed up…which means what? Either that or Adam is being sly and is not revealing his on purpose.

The judge’s choices are always revealed at homecomings. It’s no secret.

Well, what can I say? I never kept up so closely with the show background goings-on online until this season. I was always a watcher and became a fangirl for Cook last year, but never ventured to MJs, Rickey’s, TWOP or the fansites til after! So for instance when they said on FoxKC that David would sing Roberta Flack, I knew it had been on KC television but didn’t KNOW until I saw it on performance night. It just never registered with me, “oh, people in KC have known for almost a week he was going to sing this!”

So until I hear something I’m gonna go with my second instinct…that Adam’s keeping it a seekrut!

Interesting that two songs were picked in which the original artists have vocal styles very similar to Danny and Kris respectively. Rather obvious choices in that respect and not doing the contestants any real favors, because it will be very difficult for either to make the songs seem original or fresh.

Of the two, Kris got the better sounding song but, yah, he is gonna have to watch that falsetto.

It was a really fun experience. San Diego is definitely going all out.

Before texting, they used to FAX the judge’s choice to the mayor/govenor/grand poobah and have them read the announcement of the song. Part of the intro real for the “judge’s choice” has always been the Idol finding out during their home visit what they will sing. If they didn’t want anybody to know, the judge could simply have told them that before they left or when they got back. The only reason to tell them during their home visit is to get their reaction and the fan’s reaction on camera.

I think this woman may be a little confused. I’m not buying it.

There is no way AI is going to give Adam three choices while Kris and Danny get only one. They aren’t that blatantly biased, or that stupid. I am sure he will announce at some point later today. Adam knows show business, the element of surprise and the publicity it generates, look at the hoopla here about it.
