From Entertainment Weekly:

American Idol graduates Adam Lambert and Allison Iraheta are eschewing the self-titled route for their upcoming debut albums. Lambert, Idol’s season 8 runner-up, announced via Twitter that the title of his record, which will be released Nov. 23 via 19 Recordings/RCA, will be For Your Entertainment. Iraheta’s disc, slated for Dec. 1 release via 19/Jive, will be called Just Like You. Fans of both singers began buzzing about the album titles after they appeared on the artists’ Amazon.com pages earlier this evening; a spokesperson for 19 confirmed both titles exclusively to EW.com.

Adam’s cabaret-like title, For Your Entertainment,   brings to mind Pink’s Funhouse and Britney Spears’ Circus.   Allison’s title, the fun and sassy Just Like You, is the perfect title for a teenager’s debut.

At least they aren’t self-titled. Allison’s title seems kinda strange, given her debut single.

  • Cheetara86

I like the titles…They do fit the personalities of the idols.

    Glad its not self titled

  • LVanna

Yay Adam! We are definitely ready to be entertained. By the time the album drops we are all going to be old from anticipation lol. Cannot. wait. for.this.album.

  • PRMari

Allison’s title seems kinda strange, given her debut single.

Strange how? It’s a title referencing her being a relatable teen girl.

  • suebrody

I do not know about Allison’s title. I guess she means she is just a normal person, not a superstar, just someone having fun and enjoying music.

As for Adam’s title, I am still debating this. It sounds a little cheesy, BUT since the cover art won’t be (FIERCE, I predict) and the songs sure as hell won’t, it doesn’t matter. CANNOT WAIT FOR IT TO BE RELEASED. And TfM is set to be released TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT (well, tomorrow, technically).

  • iluvai

I don’t like Adam’s cd title. But I’m sure it won’t keep me from liking the cd. Someone in another thread mentioned “Who’s Crying Now” for a possible cd title for Adam. I like that a lot better.

“For Your Entertainment” sounds so Broadway and old-fashioned. Yuck!!! I super hate it.

  • adamisthemanfan

Now that I though it over…Adam’s title does sound classy, albeit still too straight forward for me (too generic)…still dont like Allisons title although if she’s planning on releasing a single with that title then it makes sense…
but I dont think either of them are even sure of what material will decisively be on their albums…
I also agree the cover art for Adam’s album needs to be and should be really good…at Amazon there is a picture already posted but who knows if that’s what he’s gonna use…he already did the shoot for it so my best bet would be the pic where he’s lying on the arm chair with the purple shirt…although all of the pics from that photo shoot are nice…
Im hoping he’ll kick it up a couple of notches for his next album(s)…but it all depends on how this one does…
MJ can you please confirm/deny the rumor that TFM is being released tonight?

  • suebrody

I would have liked just For Your… so many possibilities left to the imagination. ;) And yes, Who’s Crying Now would have been awesome, with Adam covering Don’t Stop Believing. Swoonage. Oh, well. Album will still KILL.

  • Cheetara86

I really want to see allison cover…

yeah we know adam’s cover will probably be awesome, but I want to see Allison’s cover art

  • Margie32127

Glad the CDs finally have titles. Leave it to the fans to find out the titles before any formal announcement was made. What would I do without Twitter..

For Your Entertainment reminds me of the old song “Let Me Entertain You” which I now can’t out of my head…

  • Michelle

    “For Your Entertainment” is just…bad.

Allison’s is okay though like I said in the Headlines thread I think it’s more self-titled might have been a less viable option for her (not any fault of her own.)

  • Summer

For Your Entertainment? That is so NOT cutting edge~ sounds like something out of Wilshire Records.

I would have preferred a self titled album to this. Something like….. …. ” ADAM” in FIERCE glittery letters!!

  • evanjane

I don’t have a strong opinion on Idol album titles either way. Some were total failures — Bo Bice The Real Thing was just plain embarrassing. TPTB must have forgotten that Coke Is the Real Thing. I’m more concerned with the cover art and the music. I don’t really care for either album titles. Allison’s certainly is stating the obvious. She certainly is a typical teen, really down-to-earth, but there’s one huge difference, she can sing her face off. ::grin:: I understand what they’re going for, but it doesn’t thrill me. For Your Entertainment doesn’t do it for me at all. First thing I thought of was “let me entertain you”. It really is of little consequence, though. It’s the music we’re interested in after all.

  • Lyrical12

Both albums will undoubtedly be fantastic, but I’m less thrilled about the titles…

“For Your Entertainment” is okay, but I was definitely expecting something with a little bit more bang from Adam. Though it is certainly appropriate!

As for Allison’s title, it sounds too cliched… like Hannah Montana bubblegum pop crap or something. Conversely, it’s also the title of one of my favorite Three Days Grace songs, which is a rather heavy rock song. If she has a track called “Just Like You” it’ll be kind of confusing for me, haha.

  • Summer

Maybe it would work if they used a large photo from the Details shoot, with

“For Your Entertainment” in very small letters…

  • boredinschool

    Meh on Allisons’.
The jury is still out for me on Adams’, I need to see the cover and/or singles before I pass judgement.
BUT it is interesting and unexpected so Im leaning towards liking it.

  • Cheetara86

Really don’t care how awesome or bad the titles are, I just want good music

  • iluvai

I would have liked just For Your’ ¦ so many possibilities left to the imagination.

How about “For Your Imagination”. Probably a lot nicer than some other titles I had envisioned. Plus there is a little mystery.

  • iluvai

For Your Entertainment reminds me of the old song ‘Let Me Entertain You’ which I now can’t out of my head’ ¦

YES!!! I totally agree with you. It’s one of the reasons I can’t stand the title. PUKE!!!!

  • suebrody

Maybe it would work if they used a large photo from the Details shoot, with

New here…tho been lurking quite a while. Remember this is Adam, his title will eventually make great sense “in context” – you’ll see.

Also, thanks for all the info and just plain fun I’ve had on here, it’s been greatttt…looking forward to more adamstorm.

Do the Idols get much say in the title of their CD’s?

I totally agree. I can’t believe there is finally something “Adam” that is just yuck to me.

  • NewFan

Has there been much information about Allison’s sales figures? She doing ok out there? This may have been discussed on other threads but I haven’t been keeping up.

  • chessguy99

I’m just happy that they aren’t self-titled. I think both have good potential to be used creatively by album reviewers. Can’t do anything creative with a self-titled album.

  • http://www.dallascowboys.com GeminiDolly

    Yuck @ Adam’s title.

When I heard Adam’s cabaret-like title, For Your Entertainment, I immediately thought of Pink’s Funhouse and Britney Spears’ Circus. Allison’s title, Just Like You, sounds fun and sassy’“perfect for a teenager’s debut.

Reading MJ’s comment has kind of settled me down. But now it makes me envision an album cover like Adam during the Ford “Circus” commercial. IDK.

  • alxsavage

Yay! Just got my TFM download from the Mexican iTunes Store :)

  • AllenTX

At first, I was like meh…. not feeling it. Then I realized it could be worse… like self titled. Now I like it much better. LOL

  • Mary102

Really love the Adam title! It’s fun and flirty, just like him. The Allison one, eh, better than being self-titled, but kinda just boring and innocuous imo.

  • Summer

oh gah, I just had a vision of the album cover with ” For Your Entertainment” in big letters, with Adam bouncing around in the Michelan Man suit, surrounded by a bunch of little kids at a birthday party.

Gotta go look at those Details photos once more to wipe this image from my brain.

Whoa! Very surprised at the early reaction to the titles! I guess ymmv, definitely, but I think this title is WAY better than it could have been (even “Adam” – I would NOT have dug that title).

I think this title is great – it doesn’t suggest too much in any one direction, except to suggest having a good time, which Adam most definitely wants people to do with the album. IDK – I love it :-) I’m sticking with it.

  • alxsavage

At first, I was like meh’ ¦. not feeling it. Then I realized it could be worse’ ¦ like self titled. Now I like it much better. LOL

Absolutely. I’m just thrilled about the fact that it isn’t self-titled, the same old boring formulaic option that seems to be a rule for contestants that come out from talent shows.

Neither did I :-( Searched just now under both Adam’s name and the title.

  • PattyH

It’s under Time For Miracles and it came up in the 3rd row of the display, for me. It’s there! Just listened, it’s even more incredible!

  • mila3

Sorry, checked iTunes on Adam Lambert. No TfM. They’ve added some single called “Sin Synthetic”. Anybody heard of it?

  • BeckyMD

I found it in my ipod under ‘time for miracles’.

  • unique28v

does it really matter? lol Who remembers or even cares about album titles? Adam’s has the word entertainment in it, which makes sense since he always says he wants to entertain people. Allison’s I guess is trying to be relatable but it sounds like something Mylie Cyrus would use. Either way it doesn’t matter. I will forget both of them by tomorrow. lol Its the song titles that I think are more important. I dunno. Its just not that serious to me.

Plus, its hard to judge them without seeing the cover art. That is more important than the titles as well.

  • aa618892

I just bought it off of US Itunes. Someone said it doesn’t count until after midnight. Is this true? I’ll buy it again if I have to.

  • spring2009

It is also available in Canada on itunes.

  • Tess

Ummagumma, If I could Only Remember my Name, Bridges to Babylon, Play, Tales from the Acoustic Planet, Bury the Hatchet, To the Faithful Departed, Deep Breakfast, Yourself or Someone Like You, We Live Here, Made in USA…just a few titles from the first box of CDs on my bookshelf. Wonder how many people can match the title to the Artist…and the biggest point is, who cares.

Personally I’m not thrilled with either title, but after checking out box 1 of my music collection (and it goes on and on) I don’t think it matters a whole lot in the grand scheme of things.

At least we have titles…hopefully soon we will have a song list…and maybe, someday, an album.

  • Mary102

IDK – I think one has to realize that the title can’t really be too bold and brash – anything referencing “glittery aliens from planet fierce” I know would make a lot of us happy, but when we’re talking about reaching out to a WIDE audience beyond AI, I think this title, as something that will be attached to the album for the general, don’t know Adam from Eve, music buyer, is good for that purpose.

I suddenly feel really defensive of this title :-) Maybe I just need to go to bed…

  • suebrody

I just want THE FIRST SINGLE FROM FYE. (Hey, at least the acronym works–same as the record store.)

  • sdmama

For Your Entertainment was quite unexpected, but when did Adam do anything I was expecting?
It may take me a while like ROF, but I am willing to stare at it for a while to digest it. The meaning is perfect because he always says he is here to entertain, not to preach or not to whine. It just sounds, so, mmmm, normal?

It does sounds like a “sub-title” to another title like me a bit.
“Adam Lambert – For your Entertainment” (I know, I know, most of you do not like self-titled) or
“Silver Spiral – For your Entertainment” (don’t ask, I am just making up as I go) or something like that.

One thing is for sure. No matter that that is, Adam pushes buttons, and I end up with having fun talking about it. In deed, for our entertainment :D

  • Mary102

TFM is up now! Literally just popped up on Adam’s itunes page when I refreshed :-) WHEEE!!!! Good-bye the first of many $1.29′s in the name of Adam :-)

    #foryourentertainment = BEST TITLE EVER :-)

  • tootheatrical

The title along with the stare-down Seebree photo they used (on Amazon) actually works — makes it more like “Yes, you are GOING to be entertained, Bitches!” but otherwise (dare I say it?) it sounds kinda . . . “too theatrical . . .” (Damn, some Tweeter already beat me to the Bitches part . . .)

So much depends on the cover, but the cover won’t be there when people ask for it in the stores (Uh, do people still buy CDs like that?).
I s’pose it could be the case of an editor picking a headline instead of the journalist who wrote it (Override Adam? doubt it), but still — any one of the suggestions in the last Adam thread were so much better: dsp’s ‘For Your Pleasure’ got the same point across, but with the bonus of a double meaning. Even in the texts themselves, Luv wrote it as ’4 ur entertainment’ which would have given it a modern spin and Adam’s own ‘It’s Not That Deep’ (referenced by Dhunken in terms of the title discussion) would have worked for the dancey? poppy? synthy? electro? fun CD that he always talks about. (At least Allison’s could also be interepreted as “(I) Just LIKE You” — so a little bit more creative IMO . . .)

And yes, “Override Adam” is my gift to you ;)

  • didilynn

I think it is a perfect title for his first album. It clearly states his goal for his music, and fits with everything he has been telling us he wants to do.

My hope is that this album appeals to the widest possible audience, thereby insuring a second album (which could then have a more “cutting edge” title) – not that I believe a title is all that important.

I think I hit upon what I don’t like about Adam’s title, besides the lack of edge. It’s too long. I wanted something snappier. If it was gonna be long, I wanted it to be something profound or unique… “Entertainment,” I don’t think that’s worth the extra letterage.

Allison’s title is appropriate. They’re def. taking her in the Demi direction, not the P!nk direction. It’s short and fits Allison. It’s not terribly interesting/memorable to me though.

Wow, am I a Debbie Downer in this thread.

I’ll just go flail over TFM instead…

Wait a minute. Who here buys an album based on its title? Don’t most people do so because they like the artist or have heard a few songs and think it’s worth the investment? Even back when I was buying LPs at the record store, I don’t remember browsing the racks, thinking, “Hey. I don’t know who this group is, but since the title isn’t lame, I’ll buy it.”

BTW, if you are buying Time For Miracles from iTunes, you have to do a search on the song title. You won’t find it under Adam Lambert.

  • Adamme

okay .. I found it.. do I have to wait till midnight to buy it?

  • Mary102

For Your Entertainment reminds me of the old song ‘Let Me Entertain You’ which I now can’t out of my head’ ¦

Went there, too. Gypsy. Strippers. Broadway. Burlesque. Also sounded like a good title for Barry Manilow’s greatest hits. Or a Liza Minnelli box set. Or Gene Kelly doing That’s Entertainment. And the chain store having the same name would have ruled it out right away IMHO.

Not the shimmering wordsmithery one might have expected from a guy who likes Muse. Nothing innovative, mysterious, or pioneering about it.

Hoping the album art redeems it. Of course, titles don’t matter. But was hoping to be impressed. That the title’s uniqueness would match the singer’s.

  • jammasta

I think it’s kinda sad that for a moment, I thought Kris’s is probably better than both of these and it’s self-titled >_>.

    Not that they’re bad, though.

  • Mary102

What I like about the album title is the fact that Adam is about more than just the singing, but really about the whole performance, putting on a show, etc. I really think the title speaks to that.

I may be putting words in his mouth, but tbh, I feel the title is something he’d like too, as in, he’d get a kick out of using that phrase to explain what he wants the album to do (entertain people), with a nod at showbiz and grander performances, which he, most definitely will be all about. That’s one reason why, from the very first time I read it, I really really liked the title and thought it suited him well.

  • Sherena

    You put it perfectly.

But do titles really not matter? I would think that they do, although the album art probably matters more.

I may be putting words in his mouth, but tbh, I feel the title is something he’d like too, as in, he’d get a kick out of using that phrase to explain what he wants the album to do (entertain people), with a nod at showbiz and grander performances, which he, most definitely will be all about.

Yes… the redeeming quality of the title for me is that it’s so ADAM. It’s something he loves. It’s something he would get excited explaining. That’s just too cute and endearing and it’s why I think it will eventually grow on me. But for now, I’m not sure whether I prefer this over self titled. I definitely would’ve preferred, say, Strut, over this title.

FifthHouseSun – You pretty much expressed exactly how I feel. Like you, I’m now hoping for album art that reflects something more innovative that will make the title feel better.

I just don’t like the way the words sound against each other.

Maybe it will grow on me.

Sorry if this is OT, but they just used Adam’s version of Mad World at the end of General Hospital on soapnet tonight. Never get tired of that vocal!

  • JohnM

tootheatrical: At least Allison’s could also be interepreted as ‘(I) Just LIKE You’ ‘” so a little bit more creative IMO

Or it could be — and I hope this is what it turns out to be — “I don’t wanna be Just Like You”!

Bad news — I just checked Amazon to see if her single is back on sale now that it’s October 20, and it says “Not available until November 3″. WTF??

  • deshae78

    For Your Entertainment??

On first hearing it, I don’t like it. Yes, it is classy…but that’s kinda the problem. It sounds very Broadway, very old-fashioned. If Adam was making an album that fit those themes then it would be a fine title. But he’s not…or so he says. According to Adam, his album is rock with an electronica or dance edge…I don’t get how that title fits in with the type of music he says will be on the album. On a positive note, I don’t think it’s cheesy at all. It just doesn’t feel right for Adam’s album…based on what he has been telling us.

Pink’s title, “Funhouse” imo could fit any type of music. Funhouse could mean anything or reference a lot of themes or feelings. But “For Your Entertainment” is straightforward Broadway-ish.

  • deshae78

    Back with more thoughts…

I also think Adam’s title is a little bland. I guess I was expecting something a liitle more “fierce.”

Allison’s title is fitting for a young woman, but it is also generic. How many times have we heard the same theme??

  • Truthiness

Not the shimmering wordsmithery one might have expected from a guy who likes Muse. Nothing innovative, mysterious, or pioneering about it.

I was hoping for Splunge! myself. Now that would have been creative and unique! Well okay, not creative, but unique as an album cover and very wordsmithery and pioneering.

  • springboard

I didn’t expect anything creative from RCA. ‘For Your Entertainment’ is not bad..

  • glamatheart

I’m not loving this title at all. Maybe with the artwork it will grow on me.

  • mmb

for your entertainment is a bit odd, but it does make sense….in interview after interview Adam has said that the purpose of his album was entertainment and to entertain you….this picks up on that theme….and i suspect that it will also make sense with the cover art…but i’ve never bought an album based on the title

It’s an ok title and a common phrase. But if I didn’t know Allison Iraheta, I would expect a cover of one of those three.

Adam’s ‘For Your Entertainment’ just lays flat for me. I had to keep going back to remember what it was. Even being away from the computer, what came to mind was ‘Sanitized For Your Protection’. I have no idea why, but it did.

What may have worked and been a ‘wink’ of a title might have been: Adam Lambert – For Entertainment Purposes Only. That’s a title I could get behind.

Well, I’m not really feeling either album title. First of all, Allison isn’t just like me, but then I’m old. She isn’t at all like either of my two kids (18 and 20 years old). My daughter got over multi-colored hair at age 14…granted hers was way scarier than Allison’s. My son told me when he was 16 that if I ever texted him or chatted with text speak, he wouldn’t answer. I’d bet $100 neither of them know who Allison is. I’d be surprised too if they knew who Adam Lambert is. They don’t follow reality shows, they don’t follow mainstream popular culture, and they definitely don’t listen to pop music. I don’t talk to them about it because they don’t care. Ultimately, I don’t think that anybody is just like anybody else.

I find Adam’s title hilarious. It’s so Broadway/Burlesque sounding. I was thinking, from everything his fans said he said (sorry don’t follow him), that Adam was wanting to get away from that identity. Anyhow, It may be for my entertainment, but I’ll be the judge of whether I’m entertained or not. In that respect, I find the title just a bit presumptive.

I’m starting to like self titled albums more and more…

Do the Idols get much say in the title of their CD’

I wondered about this, too’ ¦.did he pick this title, or did some one else and he agreed to it

I’m fairly certain they have a strong hand and have final approval on album title. Kris said that he felt all the titles they were kicking around seemed forced and nothing was grabbing him. He decided, rather than pushing it, to go with self titled.

Someone asked if people buy something they’ve not heard based on title. Count me as a someone who has and does. I definitely did as a teen and young adult, and I still do as an older adult. I discovered some fabulous gems I probably would not have been exposed to otherwise. I also became an early adopter of some artists who went on to be phenomenal successes.

Titles and cover art should grab you and draw you in. Make you want to hear, read, see what is inside. Best case scenario is the ‘what’s inside’ is as good or better than what drew you in.

Personaly, I am thrilled their albums will not be self title. Not that a single name would be bad, followed by a title phrase. I remember when albuma came out and, we would actually wait for them ,Wait for the free art work on and in them.
“WAH”, that they pobably didn’t get a chance to see mine. I find this title somewhat pedestrian…..No real flare or thrill to it. It will be fine but as a brainstorming session….Sad.
    a couple of mine
    A D A M A man his vocals and his mic/ or love affair with a mic & song
    A D A M Came To Sing
    A D A M My lips to your ears
    L A M B E R T Invasion
    L A M B E R T Ride the music
    L A M B E R T Time to listen and then dancebitchesdance!!
I really like alli’s smart, short cheeky and age appropriate title”just Like you”!!!!

    “For Your Entertainment.”

I can just picture Simon kind of going, “eep. Cabaret.” … Probably his worst fear for Adam’s future, lol.

That said, I don’t think anybody buys an album based on a title.

And, that said, I wish Adam were as good at titles as some others have been. Like the Stones et al. But I have to remind myself that they’ve done these albums in a couple of months. And they’re all brand-new pop artists, when you come right down to it. Nothing wrong with “For Your Entertainment,” or “Just Like You,” or “Kris Allen,” under the circumstances.

Most album titles that are short and simple have been done before, it’s even harder for song titles, so I don’t think one should focus on if it was done before or not when choosing the name of the album.

I don’t really like either of them beyond the fact that they are not self titled, don’t think it really matter tough.

The title, For Your Entertainment, does nothing for me by itself. Maybe it ties into one of the songs on the album and will make you think of the song when you hear the title. It doesn’t sound like Adam….nothing about it says SSSIIIIICCCCCKKK…..

Adam has said he wants to entertain us so his album title reflects as much. It’s an album title, not rocket science. It’s supposed to be fun. I don’t care what he calls it. It’s going to be entertaining and fun and I will buy it and so will millions of others, based on the early numbers for Time for Miracles.

My main objection to the FYE title is too many syllables. It just doesn’t roll easily off the tongue.

My suggestion: For Me (For You)

You must have loved Fables of the Reconstruction!

  • counselor

Love ‘will’s’ suggestion for a title: For Me (For You)
Sounds more like Adam than FYE

  • counselor

However, I’d buy the album no matter what it’s called!!!
I even buy his music on iTunes even when I already have a copy that’s downloaded for free (i.e. ‘Time for Miracles’ was downloaded and then last night it became available legally on iTunes for $1.29 – don’t want to cheat Adam out of his hard-earned dues).

LOL, that was the first thing my husband said when I first told him about Adam’s album title. AND he was very impressed with Adam on AI.
He sings himself so he knows that Adam has an impressive voice and control.

  • Nico

Both titles are cliche to me, but I do get why they chose them

For Your Enterteinment. Adam enterteined people all his live and he keeps doing that. He’s controversial, likes to be in the spotlight. The title reminds me of Robbie Williams’ song “Let me entertain you”.

I think you understand it the wrong way. Everyone is one of its kind. Her saying that she’s just like you doesn’t mean that you have red hair, are a teen and listen to the same kind of music. It’s more like, hey I might be on the radio, but you know what – I am a normal human being just like you. At least that’s how I understand the title. There are some celebrities for whom being seen in the same clothing twice is the end of the world – and you can see Allison in the same stripped sweater on many many photos. There are celebrities that won’t come out of their apartment without tons make-up and perfect hair – and Allison usually doesn’t were any make-up and doesn’t care if her hair are a mess. There are some celebrities that behave and speak differently depending if they are on or off-camera – and Allison talks to you with her goofy teen talk like you were her school buddy. I think that makes her just like us, normal folks.

Titles and cover art should grab you and draw you in.

I’m not really feeling the album title

I agree with those you have said the title represents everything Adam has said since we first met him. He wants to entertain. That said at first glance I did not love the title but I can imagine with the cover art and font (which will be great/OTT/very Adam) the title may be the most ‘normal’ thing about it. Think of it as a pallet cleanser. I can’t imagine the VISUALS anything less than stunning.
Next year when we recall the back and forth on the title we will all wonder “why did we even discuss it , For Your Entertainment is so natural now” … and *Snicker, Snicker* “How could we have ever wondered about it and now its earning all these awards!” ****
