Thank God! I love his hair.He has the best hair and he really knows how to make it work for him. Can’t wait to see how he will ultimately get involved with fragrance and fashion, should be amazing. He has such a great sense of style. But I digress, can’t wait to see him on the red carpet—this should be much better than the last time, heh. What a great day it will be for him as well. Can’t imagine what his parents are thinking about all that is happening for him..good for them.

I never cared that much for the A M A’S before, but I do now.
I can’t wait to see Adam perform. He is going to Kill it. He is going to be absolutely amazing. He doesn’t even have his single out yet and everyone is wanting him. This is so wonderful for Adam to get this exposure. I got my Details mag. and I love it. I can’t wait for his C D For Your Entertainment. At least we have a name for his C D.

Wow first a major screen test with TII, followed closely by performing live in front of movers and shakers. Adam is the consummate live entertainer and he isn’t skeered he’s one of the few who charms us live and next week on the big screen–hopefully the first of many opportunities.

Adam performing at the AMA’s is pretty exciting for everyone. Anyone who has seen him perform and connected with him is feeling a little tingly about seeing him perform again. He’s just getting warmed up!

Can I just say how much I loved Adam’s “look” that day? His hair is a force of nature, and he just looks so pretty. My only worry is a) the AMAs producer seems nuts and b) are the AMAs considered the poor man’s Grammys and c) yeah, what others said, I’m afraid TFM will be the single on AMAs, but if it is, maybe Adam can still have his pyro with cars exploding around him. I wonder if they’re waiting until 2012 opening weekend (Nov 13?) to see how it stacks up in box office, and if it does really well, maybe they’ll make him sing TFM. Ok, that’s a couple worries.

Here’s another one – is it a concern that Adam will be missing the boat on all those jingle jam thingies? I know he’s being promoted differently that the Jive artists, but the promo level can’t just be magazine covers and ET/Extra/Access Hollywood, can it? I mean, radio would help wouldn’t it?

We have no idea what the promo plan is for Adam’s album and lead album single. But I imagine that FM Radio will be involved. And clearly TV and theater promo will be a major component.

I remembered a main character (one of the lovers) from the film footage but I just looked at the MV again and I think you’re right. Did you mean the guy with the very big fro? He pops up about three times in the MV footage. I do not believe Adam has total control — only Madonna has total control because she owns everything. Adam seems to have support from the label in his creative direction — and he also seems to know that the label has their role to play, too.

If TfM is on his album it will probably be a bonus track. But I still think there is a chance it will not be on the album — it doesn’t make sense to me — Why would the take the hit song from a soundtrack album and also put it on another RCA album? The may be some brillant strategy that we don’t know about. We’ll see.

Well, I am positive that they will be releasing another Adam single — that is his song vs. TfM. And it certainly won’t hurt Adam is TfM is on FYE.

I think that’s why Carlos Santana was so eager to shake Adam’s hand during the performance of “Smooth” on the finale. He thought Adam sounded like a retread Chad Kroeger from Nickleback! He’s probably writing a song with him in mind right now. Why Don’t You and I Part Deux. NGL, that would be epic!

But since RCA is hosing him, it won’t happen. Damnit!

We now know that it will be included on the album.

I am starting to suspect that “Time for Miracles” will eventually end up being viewed as his first single and also be the song he performs on the AMAs. I sincerely hope I am wrong and you are right.

After watching the Orianthi video….I think she would be great for Adam’s band. I enjoyed her song and she can really play that guitar! She seems to share Adam’s passion for entertaining and music. I think they’d be a great fit.

Adam said in the interview with Lindsey Parker towards the end of the tour that TFM might be a bonus track on his album. I would imagine that the AMA’s did not book Adam sight unseen or sound unheard. Since Adam has spoken on a nationally syndicated radio show and on AMA promos as well as all the entertainment shows that he would be performing a glammy dance number on the AMA’s, I’m sure it is one that he previewed to Dick Clark Productions (probably more than 1 if the single hadn’t been narrowed down yet) and that’s why the AMA’s booked him. I don’t think that plan has changed.

HaHa, after I posted I saw that you had posted the same type of message. To me it makes sense that Sony would want his single to be “Time for Miracles”. They get to promote Adam because of his voice by the early release of the song, then the movie with the video being played before “This Is It” and then continued promotion of Adam and the Movie by him performing the song at the AMAs.

I will cut a bitch if Adam performs TFM on the AMAs.

Maybe we should start a twitter rumor that Adam’s performing TFM on the AMAs just so RCA does something to clear it up. I’m only half-joking. Where’s suebrody when you need her?

He’s not performing TFM on the AMAs, he will be performing his new single and we will have a leak or a release very soon.

I just downloaded Hot legs’ album Red Light Fever from ITunes UK. I’m a huge fan of The Darkness but had never heard Justin’s new band Hot Leg. One thing I noticed is unlike The Darkness, Hot Leg is more Metal than Glam. I’m not a fan of metal, so the album only had a couple of songs in it that I liked, Cocktails and Kissing In The Wind. It certainly explains why a Metal Rock blog was all excited about Adam’s collab with Hawkins.
The guitar work on the album on the other hand is vintage Hawkins. The man is a virtuoso with them strings.

I find Lyndsey’s description of Music Again reassuring though. She likened the song to The Darkness and not Hot Leg, which is just fine and dandy with me.

Ditto. I have been learning a lot this past few months. I still don’t really understand the various genre but I’m getting there.

It’s a long shot to be honest for Adam to get SNL. He’s a newbie with a freshman album, who didn’t even win a cheesy Karaoke show. Won’t stop me from dreaming though… and praying.

And yes, Dec 6, right in the middle of Christmas shopping, would be ideal.

Oh, hell, gotta say something. HWC…have to agree with all you have said about Hot Legs/The Darkness. I tried…really did…made my ears bleed. Loved the guitar sound, but couldn’t take the vocals.

Can I say…nothing can compare to HBIC? Of course I can, and I wasn’t actually comparing. I love all types of music. Just couldn’t handle that.

I’ve been sitting here for almost 10 hours listening to TFM. Why?? To calm me down since my car got totalled tonight..grrrrrrr! Some old fart pulled out in front of me…kaboom!! Plus, the gal to the right of me hit him too. No one hurt, TG. So, what do I do? Come home and listen to what calms me.

I truly believe that we will have a *new* single out soon. Have said it before and will say it again. Adam said so…I believe in what he says. I’ll give it 2 weeks tops. Maybe sooner. We WILL have our Adam single from the album.

I don’t stress about all of this. I just feel it. I have never thought that we wouldn’t have a single from his album, even before TFM was said to be on it. He’s not going to sing TFM on the AMA’s….not going to happen. JMHO but I do believe that to be the truth.

ok, back to my hiding place to watch the video a few more times. The HD vid is so awesome. Have sent it out to so many of my friends who never watched AI and most have loved it. Got several hooked by sending them the RoF vid…hehehe! True story.

Here’s my take on the Darkness. I got into them(at least I made an honest attempt) early on circa ’02-03. Overall the sound was not bad to listen to them casually, but I listen to my songs carefully – breaking down every instrument, changes in guitar, rhythm section and vocal dynamics – to enjoy the full sound. But something obstructed my ability to travel through the track, and it goes by the name of Justin. That guy annoyed me with his timbre and falsetto across the song, which I can only take so much. About his guitar playing; he is technically up there, got to give ‘em that, but I always thought his solos were random without complementing the direction of the song. I always said the same about Ed. Van Halen, fast, very technical, spearheaded a movement, but his solos had nothing to do with the song – with little to no soul or emotion to his solos. Playing arpegios @
100mph won’t always cut it. That’s why Slash and Brian May are always in the top 10 list guitarist of all time in almost everybodys list. Needless to say, Im not too fond of the Darkness.

If Cavallo or the label had let Brian bust out a solo on that song I would be more excited about it.

As far as TFM, I am really starting to think they might put the VIDEO on FYE as a bonus. I think they did that on the Enchanted Soundtrack with Carrie’s song.

My verdict is still out on J. Hawkins since I have really only liked one song by him, but I only liked one song by Linda Perry too and look what that woman can do! The problem I have with Hawkins is that his glam rock comes across as a parody to me.

Hey Studio57, I don’t want to come across as anti-Eddie. After all he gave us tapping. I like Eddie and Van Halen, and like you said, early with Eruption. I remember those 20+ minute solos that culminated in a guitar clinique that is “eruption.” My interest in them diminished after the critically acclaimed 1984 disc. My feelings on speed guitar licks changed some what after Appetite for Destruction. Granted I was real young, I knew a change had come with Slash, and there will always be a place for Van Halen in my music library.

A little late to the discussion, but I think Adam decided to change the direction of his sound a bit after the tour. He has mentioned he was struck by how well WLL worked on tour and he has also mentioned having an identity crisis when the tour ended. I think he decided to infuce more rock elements in the stuff he recorded after tour. Maybe he was much more electronica oriented before the tour?

I’m inclined to think that the opposite is true, that they have so much from which to choose that they’re taking their time to make the best decision. Also, we’ve never really been given a definitive release date for a single, so while it all seems to us like it’s taking painfully long, everything may be going perfectly according to their schedule. RCA has put out a lot of records, so I’m sure they know what they’re doing in terms of timing. Having the TFM opportunity come up right at the time Adam’s debut album was due probably created a little strategical challenge for them, but I truly think, based on how much support they seem to have put behind Adam, that they know what they are doing to give him the best opportunity for a successful single debut.

And probably some Sophie’s choices as well. All the tracks can’t make it and they are trying like hell not to accidentally leave out something truly outstanding. As they are all outstanding, I can understand why it is taking so long.

That’s a pre-Idol track that Adam collaborated on with J. Scott G. He worked out some sort of arrangement to hold off on releasing until Adam’s debut album is out. He caught a lot of flack when word of it first surfaced right after the Hi-Fi records fuckery, and more recently when a lo-fi clip of it leaked onto the web.

My sense is that while he is a bit self-promoting, he’s held off so far and not stepped on Adam’s debut so I don’t think he deserves some of the crap he’s taken. This is not someone that is using an old demo, this is someone Adam proactively contacted on MySpace to collaborate with.

Is it the best song ever? Maybe not, it’s actually pretty similar to a lot of Adam’s other pre-Idol work, lyrically (short, staccato verses, occasionally lulzy phrases). That said, I downloaded the lo-fi version when it leaked, and I’m a little surprised how much it’s grown on me. If he improves that version with the creative remixes he’s blogged about and more polished production I’ll probably really love it. But then I secretly adore a lot of Adam’s pre-Idol stuff, so maybe I’m not the best judge.

You’re welcome! He talked about releasing in January, but he hasn’t said exactly what his deal with Adam’s people entails. Although I suspect if there was a way to release it earlier and have the fans know that Adam approved it, he’d try for that.

I don’t hate it but it’s not what I want his new music to sound like.

I think the song doing well but not OMG fantastic (so far) just means the song counts. Adam can’t put something out and immediately have it go to #1 because of a huge Idol fan base. At least not with some soundtrack stuff like TFM. He needs a song in a current genre.

I thought songs on iTunes cost at least $1. And Idol fans are supposed to gift the song not just listen to it. That’s the tradition anyway.

It slowly became a radio and video hit (featuring scenes from the movie) and was not only added to her second album track list, but they ended up calling that album “Breakaway”. The Album went on to sell over 6 million units.

RCA even pushed back the release of “Breakaway” to make room for the song.

Interestingly enough, the song was originally co-written and recorded by Avril Lavrigne, but was cut from her album. You never know where a hit song will come from.

Interesting point but the timing is different.

It TfM is on FYE, it will be on two albums released within 2 weeks of each other:
2012 Soundtrack releases 11/10/09
FYE releases 11/23/09

“Iris” was also on a soundtrack and the Goo Goo Dolls album, but the Goo Goo Dolls album was released 6 months later.

City of Angels soundtrack album released on 3/31/98
Dizzy Up the Girl by Goo Goo Dolls, released on 9/22/98

If TfM is on both albums, I can’t see how it is a problem for Adam, but I don’t know what it does for Sony — unless they believe that including TfM on FYE will increase FYE sales. In any case, I assume if it is on FYE, it will be the “bonus track” since it seems all Idol alum debute albums need to have bonus track. Personally, I would put Adam’s “Mad World” on the album as the “bonus track” –

Breakaway is also the first track on her record.
I can’t see TFM starting Adam’s album or occupying a center place on the tracklist if it is totally different from the other tracks on the album.
It would need to be a gigantic hit (I think Kelly sold like 2 millions copies of Breakaway) and I don’t think TFM has that kind of potential as a pop hit.
I definetly believe it’s going to be a bonus track like they did with Heartless on Kris album.

I was very suprised by Kris small idol fanbase and that his single didn’t do better early on. It’s not a bad single so I don’t think the reason is that people hate it. I am also suprised that Adams AI fan base is not bigger, seeing the buzz he is getting and from the tour responses and the donorchoice campaigne. If it was huge and his fans would buy whatever he did, TFM would have gone higher. The fact that his fans didn’t buy NoBo in large quantities is also interesting.

Adams AI fanbase is definetely bigger than Kris’ but comparing to S7 it seems smaller. Maybe this year the fanbase was more spread out between several contestants? I wouldn’t be suprised if Danny still had a large following.

Having a large fanbase is good but it is not enough to propell you into the current music scene, you need songs that sell. In my opinion the two Davids are doing very well but they haven’t broken into the top40 yet.

I think Adam’s fanbase is not a typical Idol fanbase. Yes, there are the hardcore fans, but I also think he has attracted alot of music lovers, who, perhaps are more logical in their purchasing habits than hardcore idol fans. Why purchase TFM when it is going to be on the album dropping next month? Or why purchase TFM if you don’t really like that style of music? Or why purchase TFM if you have already pre-ordered the movie soundtrack? Money is tight these days so why purchase the same thing three times?

I believe Kris’s career will be like Jordin’s. The singles will slowly build. I think TFM will probably get alot of radio play after the movie hits. It may also get a bounce after it premiers at the Michael Jackson movie. If the song gets nominated for an Oscar, you can bet it will get a bounce from that as well. I also don’t think you can compare TFM to LLWD because Kris promoted the single, went on radio stations etc. There has been no radio promotion of TFM at all.

Well, there were other factors at play with NoBo. I love Adam but NoBo sucked generally although his version was good. I refused to buy it because he didn’t win and why should I buy a sucky winners song when he didn’t win?

For all we know, the core of the album has been decided and what’s taking so long are the handful of slots that aren’t the obvious choices. For example, there are some big name collaborators who might be jockeying for a spot on the album (i.e. Lady GaGa, who perhaps threw a last minute monkey wrench into the process). You could also have some really out-there tracks that might not fit with the vibe of the album but which Adam is lobbying for simply because he likes to change things up. Then you have certain FOA (friends of Adam) for whom a song on this album could represent a huge break.

It’s true we’re not privy to RCA/19′s timetable, but based on the public tweets of certain of these songwriters it does seem as if they keep expecting to hear something and that decision keeps getting pushed off. That sounds like a certain amount of discussion/negotiation to me. But don’t get me wrong, that’s probably a good thing.

Well, it only proves that you have to have the goods to get out of the idol bubble. I am cautiously optimistic though since I think Adam (and Kris and Allison) is much more top40 friendly than many previous idol alumns. Allison depends a little on how disney they market her.

For the record, the one put by AdamOfficial on YouTube is actually better in quality at 35 mb (as opposed to 28 mb) with higher screen resolution. But the official website’s version will have to do for international fans who don’t know how to use a proxy

Or perhaps S8 has less hardcore fans? I think Adam has had alot of media and industry attention, more than Cook or Archie, but perhaps his hardcore fan base is not as deep as Cook’s. Both Adam and Kris are unlikely sex symbols, Gay and Married, where Cook and Archie easily slid into their roles of cougar bait and teen heart throb.

Also have to add, we are a year into the recession now. People don’t have as much energy to put into fandom. Things aren’t as carefree as they were when Archie and Cook’s singles dropped. I think that is a huge factor in all of this.

Were the previous idols’ singles released worldwide near simultaneously? TFM was available in multiple countries within 3 days so the sales you’re seeing are only for the US version. Looking at my stats for my TFM 1:26 min promo video (which unfortunately got yanked by Sony), interest in Adam’s video is quite well distributed over the globe. This was the popularity distribution of the file (with about 16K unique views)

I have to agree with this. Like I said upthread, I think the core of Adam’s fanbase is made up music fans who are discerning in what they purchase as opposed to hard core idol fans. I think that is why Adam lost AI. The music lover fan would never consider power voting or buying multiple downloads to propel an idol’s career.

I do, however, think TFM is a type of song that MANY people will like once they hear it. The public has had very little exposure to this song. Good power ballads usually are popular so I wouldn’t be surprised to see TFM take off. Some people may not like this style of music, but as far as power ballads go, TFM is a good one.

I believe the S7 and S8 live tour attendance and gross sales numbers are nearly identical. This is considered good because other tour numbers dropped by 40%. Many believe Adam Lambert is responsible.for keeping the numbers up.

fluffybunny, I am comparing them coming right off AI not how they are fairing later. In my opnion, though being so popular, the both Davids haven’t really hit it big yet. They are big, yes, but not hugely big. I think to hit really big you have to have the right material.

I thought the core fan base actually campaigned against buying “Want” because the guy who released it was taking advantage of Adam? Certainly, I got the impression that some people felt actually guilty about buying it. I’m not sure we can measure the size of Adam’s fanbase based on the performance of “Want”.

“For the record, the one put by AdamOfficial on YouTube is actually better in quality at 35 mb (as opposed to 28 mb) with higher screen resolution. But the official website’s version will have to do for international fans who don’t know how to use a proxy.”

Terra, you are our expert and I bow to your superior technical knowledge. FWIW, on my computer the AO version is good but still a bit grainy, whereas the Sony version is super clear so I prefer the Sony version. Don’t know if that depends on my video board or if some other factors are in play. Nice to have choices, isn’t it!

I voted for Cook, didn’t consider myself a fan of Archie, although I recognized his talent, but I bought Archie’s Christmas album. I think it’s going to be really a nice album. Christmas is still aways off, so I think the numbers will go up.

There are so many variables at work here, I don’t know how anyone could draw conclusions from the release of these singles — at least in terms of comparing TfM to either TOML or Crush. TfM has received practically zero airplay or promotion whereas TOML was DC’s coronation song and is associated in everyone’s mind with a single poignant moment. Crush was released during the tour and got airplay even before it was put up on iTunes.

Once the albums come out, let’s see how they do.

As for the cute AMA promo leading this thread… I love that the back ground music sounds like low-rent porno tracks …seriously, I love his outfit, I really like his hair and I guess on the 22nd I will be watching the pre-show for the interview/outfit/hair and the show itself for the great entertainment/outfit/hair.

I think TFM will move up and down in the top 20 as the TII movie is released around the world.
I think the official single will be out a week into the TII release and do extremely well as people are clicking around the world on ‘anything’ Adam on various download sites like itunes/amazon.

Until Adam gets what he considers a really commercial song out there (which is what he knows he has to do), his future success is impossible to predict.

Or perhaps S8 has less hardcore fans? I think Adam has had alot of media and industry attention, more than Cook or Archie, but perhaps his hardcore fan base is not as deep as Cook’s. Both Adam and Kris are unlikely sex symbols, Gay and Married, where Cook and Archie easily slid into their roles of cougar bait and teen heart throb.

I don’t think the argument that Adam has less of an “hardcore” fanbase makes much sense. He is an OTT performer that provokes extreme reactions, Mj has said that in all these years following AI she has never seen such activity and most of it are Adam fans.
David Cook and Archuleta both have a style of music and performance much more mainstream and thus should have a ratio casual/hardcore fans superior to Adam.

Also have to add, we are a year into the recession now. People don’t have as much energy to put into fandom. Things aren’t as carefree as they were when Archie and Cook’s singles dropped. I think that is a huge factor in all of this.

I know in my industry, we didn’t feel the effect until the Fall of 2008. So yes, paperwise you could say Summer of 2007 but as far as consumers being hit…more fall of 2008. We are down 30 percent this year compared to last year and our first layoffs didn’t come until January of 2009. So the reality of the recession didn’t hit consumers until later.

Oh, I agree, I think Adam is very sexy. And I think he is considered sexier in RL than in the AI bubble…otherwise he would have won AI. I don’t worry about Adam in RL. The AI demographic, to me, doesn’t represent RL. Or at least my RL here in Los Angeles. My discussion was based on the idea the recent ITUNE sales are fueled by AI fans. Adam lost AI to Kris. So Kris should be leading in ITUNE sales. Since he’s not, I would have to say non AI fans are purchasing Adam’s music.

But having said that, IMHO, non AI fans do not have the same purchasing habits as the hard core AI fans. Non AI fans will not bulk buy just to drive their idol’s numbers up. So considering the public has had limited exposure to TFM, I think the single is doing fairly well.

Edge is what makes him the artist he is. What makes him thrilling. And the businessman in him will moderate his excesses.

Did the title of the Pink song get changed at some point?. The EW article said it was called “What Do You Want From Me?”. At the same time as I read the EW article I went to a website somewhere, that described the original song, how and when it was recorded, and how it was not used for the album coming out at that time, and was being “saved” for future recording, or as the B side of a single. That song was called “What Ya Want From Me?” I have seen the song for FYE listed both ways.

Why is there a need to freak out at all? As far as I can tell, Adam is doing great. TfM was a side project. It obviously turned out better than expected and got more buzz than expected so the producers of the movie decided to make the song and Adam more a part of the promo. The record company decided to include it on his album. It has not been pushed to radio, Adam hasn’t been doing much promo for it (the Details stuff was in connection with his cover — did it even focus on Tfm?), altho it has been featured on entertainment shows Adam hasn’t been going around to radio stations etc. It went to No. 9 on itunes and No. 1 on Amazon. It is unclear what Sony/RCA’s plans are for the record…i guess we will see over the course of the next month whether they intend to promote it widely as a single, or if once the movie opens they plan to let it fade away and focus on Adam’s new single and album….afaic all is good

crazylady, over on the headlines thread someone said that a poster on AO contacted GMA and spoke with someone (lots of third hand info, but…) there who said Adam’s appearance is still scheduled although the schedule is no longer on the website. I don’t know if they asked about Kris.

Peeps, keep in mind, fewer ppl (about several million) watched the AI S8 finale than S7, thus to begin with, there were more ppl devoted to S7 than 8. Also, this season, clearly had more splitting of fandoms than last season (the entire top 4 was signed for a reason and I don’t think 19 cares about their talent.) Presumably, Kris, Adam, Danny and Allison were splitting votes the entire time (especially the first 3).

Of course, as a huge Adam fan, I am hoping Adam can sell to the masses. My mom who loves DWTS, and is an AI watcher since S7, is someone who would never invest time in voting or reading blogs on the internet, had a listen to Tfm and thought it was solid. She also is of the opinion that Adam is the most talented contestant that she’s seen on AI. And she actually called in for him a few times for the finale. And my mom does not vote in reality TV contestants, EVER.

Q3: …If TfM is on both albums, I can’t see how it is a problem for Adam, but I don’t know what it does for Sony ‘” unless they believe that including TfM on FYE will increase FYE sales. In any case, I assume if it is on FYE, it will be the ‘bonus track’  since it seems all Idol alum debute albums need to have bonus track. Personally, I would put Adam’s ‘Mad World’  on the album as the ‘bonus track’ .

Either that or “Whole Lotta Love”. {grin} Actually, I would hope a bonus track would be one of the TOUR versions of WLL!!

Of all of the songs associated with Adam I would be most surprised to see “Mad World” on his album just because it seems contrary to the mood he has in his mind for the album. He has said all of the songs will be upbeat and for all of its beauty (when sang by Adam) the song is really moody and dark in meaning. I like the idea of “Whole Lotta Love” or “Let’s Dance” being on there though.
