I’m so proud of Adam – and wish I’d been awake last night when all the excitement started! I wish November 22 was here already – a week of goodness coming up!

When could we get snippets of the two new songs? I am dying to hear those!

Oh, yay, another thread to squee in!!! I was there for the beginning, then went to sleep, then came back to see it go to #1 on the album pop charts (single stalled at #31, iTunes chart, NOT COMPLAINING, and album is at back at #10. SO EXCITED FOR ADAM!!! Now, RCA, some press, please. Adam can’t do it all on his own.

Kris has the podcast thing coming up for itunes so maybe that’s the different tactic between the labels, or maybe Adam will do a podcast too?

So excited and happy for Adam. He’s brought sunshine to my life every day this year. Haven’t gone a day without listening to his music. So it’s a good feeling that I can now support him and thank him by buying multiple copies of his music.

Hitting top 10 on itunes is good but you get a clearer picture by seeing the ranking of FYE since that ranking is being driven by the cd sales. Every cd purchased counts as a purchase for FYE also. So it’s very good, but not great so far. It should rise more though before it descends.

Adam’s banner is combined album/single. Thats an advantage of delaying it. Kris had banners for LLWD. I bet Kris will have banners next week too for the album.

I’m so glad iTunes finally got Adam’s pre-order up. YAY! The deluxe version has videos and a digital booklet. Can’t wait!!! Now I want to hear some new music!!!

I am not skeeered. The pre-sale hasn’t even been out for 14 hours yet. FYE has steadily climbed, from the 70s to #31 in that time. And remember, this is before ANY PROMOTION from RCA except his appearance on Ryan’s show and the upcoming Kradison concert (and now the banner on iTunes). also, a lot of people already bought FYE (from AO) or are getting it as part of the pre-order (so I didn’t order it separately, tho others are, who aren’t doing the pre-order or just want it now). I was concerned yesterday, but not today.

Also, iTUnes totally messed up the release of FYE, so that played into sales as well. The album pre-order has bumped up sales; it’s almost as if FYE single was released last night to iTunes (or at least late last week), b/c it didn’t even get added until Wednesday and it was messed up till Friday, not a traditional purchase date.

Every cd purchased counts as a purchase for FYE also. So it’s very good, but not great so far. It should rise more though before it descends.

I’m at work, so I can only squee a little bit. **squee** I am so excited for him and for us that new music is so close at hand!! I’ve played the snippets for 4 people here at work today and 2 out of the 4 pre-ordered! One wants me to gift it to him as part of his christmas present..LOL The other person wanted to think about it, but I went by her desk and the snippets were on repeat..LOL.

He is so gracious to tweet us his thanks. Adam throws a lot of positive out and he deserves to get a lot in return. I wish nothing but success for our glittered favorite!!

Kirsten has already said in another thread, that it does affect download numbers, but it doesn’t affect Itunes chart position. So you’re wrong there.

(Just a little – I’m totally over-invested in Adam and, because I am, I don’t have enough objectivity to really understand why. I think he deserves to be an international popstar because of his voice and performance skills and that he could’ve been a male super-model due to his looks, but then there’s just that heaping helping of good karma coming his way, too, I think because he doesn’t compromise and just wears his sexuality so well while he’s busy doing his thang.

I still get laughed at with my Adam, er, focus but now I don’t care.

And no, purchase of FYE the album does NOT count toward purchase of FYE the single, since the single is included as part of the album, and is just released now as a bonus (same as with Sony/AO). You can buy FYE the single separately, of course, and now it’s dropped down to .99, same as amazon, and some buyers are doing that, but a lot are not.

FYE the album has been on itune #1 pop and #10 overall for a couple of hours, which is already beyond my expectation. I was afraid itune order would hurt its Amazon number, but so far it turned out not: FYE has been and still is on the Amazon best seller top 20 for 45 days.

The people’s choice Breakout Music Artist nomination makes the day even better.

I believe #31 is the FYE single ranking. Under “Music”, click “Pop” and on the right is the FYE album ranking — #1.

I am so happy. I just looked at pop-albums and Adam is #1. you need to click on music up on top and to the right of music it has an arrow that points down, click that and then click pop. Then go to albums and you will see Adams pic and he is #1. You don’t know how long I have been waiting for this day. He deserves everything, this man is so fantastic. I am just so happy today.

Maybe a stupid question? Does Billboard mean anything anymore? That is the only place I know to check, besides here of course…which when it comes to Adam, could take an afternoon of reading through many pages.

I got so excited to see “Lambert” at the #83 spot on Billboard Top 200…. until I focused in to find it was Miranda Lambert.

alwaysintrouble, if you have an iPhone or iTouch, they have separate categories, and there is pop: albums and singles (same with overall iTunes chart). I can’t look it up on my computer’s library, I don’t think, b/c I don’t have the latest version, but I could be wrong about that. I usually am. Thwap.

I transferred the song to a music CD through my computer…I went through a program called Roxio which is on the web…blank cd’s are sold everywhere…I don’t have an Ipod, so this is the only way I can listen to it in the car

Love the album cover. I buy a lot of CDs, not by the covers but by the artists. After burning the music to my laptop and itunes I put the cds away. Never look at the cover again.
If you want you can make your own cover from numerous gorgeous pics of Adam and replace the one you don’t like.

Adam actually had a really good spins yesterday, highest to date I believe. With more spins, usually comes even more sales. Look at LLWD.

I’d personally like to see at least as many POP ADDS as we saw HAC yesterday.
So 8-10 would make me happy.

TBH – based on what has come out so far, I am not expecting many new adds this week on Top 40, which is a bummer, but again I come back to the fact that RCA seems to not be doing as much with Adam and radio promo (as in, he isn’t doing any of the interviews that Kris has done, etc.)

Still, though, the itunes example from last night and today just shows that with very little time and effort, Adam moves up very high on the charts (album and singles) in a very short amount of time – and that is getting publicity (Perez tweeting congrats – well, note sure if that was about the itunes #s or PCA, probably doesn’t matter , etc.)

Again, I’m going to be fully optimistic about everything, though, because these things take time, and his phenomenal talent WILL lead to more great things, of that I’m sure.

My cousin who lives in California just told me she had ordered FYE when it first came out in Amazon, then she said she ordered again at AO because of the De Luxe feature, then she just told me now she pre-ordered the album at iTunes because of the Bonus.
She said she has two laptops so she ordered download for each and the Amazon hard copy/CD is for her car so she does not have to burn the CD as she is afraid she might mess up Adam’s great vocals .

She then smiled at me and said that she gave up dessert since May so Adam is her indulgence. Cheered her on .I am all for it !

Looks like Sony/RCA took out an ad on Perez’s web site for 2012.

In the middle of EVERY page is a yellow box that is titled “Adam Lambert’s 2012 video“. Under that is the video for you to click on, then under the video is “Watch Adam Lambert sing “Time For Miracles,” the theme song for 2012, in theaters everywhere Friday!” (Kinda makes you think Adam will be singing this in the movie)

If you click on the main title, it takes you to the 2012 website.

I expect this could be driving sales of TFM.

I’m an Adam fan-atic — and I think that there is very little chance Adam’s Album will be in the Top 5 on Billboard 200 albums — look at the albums that are being released in November — it IS close to impossible. Cook hit #3 but he won Idol. Adam came in second.

My hope is that FYE [album] charts in the top 20 albums. But I also think that it will be a long-lived album — meaning it will keep selling for quite a number of weeks — like Daughty’s first album. And I also hope FYE [single] cracks the Top 40.

But I also think that Adam will be around a long time — I sure hope so!

It looks like the video of the kids dancing to FYE was taken down by Sony.At least that is what I get when I click on the link. I feel so bad for them-they weren’t even dancing to the whole song1

But what I would like to see is some capitalization of this with radio play and radio interviews to sustain this. And besides an iTunes ad, which yeah, where are the radio adds from Top 40? Did he end up getting more than 4? Doesn’t RCA know how to get these things added at this point? I mean, granted no more payola, but c’mon, shouldn’t they be trying to get the PDs to play it? I agree, truthiness. I don’t want to be bummed about this, but it’s odd. Here’s your chance–strike while the fire is hot or whatever–and what are they doing? Well, they *are* filming Adam’s video, so that’s big, but I want some RADIO PROMOTIONS. I will trust in Kirsten and Q3 and others who say RCA has a master plan, but I do feel as if we are doing a lot of the work.

Yep, right with you, Truthiness. Still wishing for more radio promo. It seems to me Adam gets out and sells well once his peeps actually get him out there and make people aware he’s selling something! Still not getting the lack of radio promo – but maybe the timing strategy is different because of wanting to time it properly with the AMAs and other big stuff. IDK. I have faith it will all work out though. FYE is a great song and will get airplay and do well.

Random other note – one thing that is weird about adds, it has so much to do with the personalities and hype around these guys too, not just the quality of the music. Rihanna, for instance, has a TON of adds for Russian Roulette, but from my pov that song has actually gotten a lot of negative reviews from fans and stations. Kinda ticks me off that songs like that do well (and this was before the whole GMA interview, too) while songs that get genuinely good feedback struggle more.)

I just got to the blog, still without my computer (fail!) but I logged on at the library and find this great iTune news!! I haven’t had a chance to read any of the Adam threads yet so I don’t know if this has been mentioned but I saw on the E channel today a show called ‘Fashion Team’ and they were talking about the ‘This Is It’ Premier and the best fashion statements of the night…they said Adam Lambert looked great! There was video of him on the red carpet. They said he looked respectful in his black attire to the tribute honoring MJ and they liked the bidazzle on his shoulder. And that his outfit totally fit his personality. Way to go Adam…already getting talked about on the Hollywood fashion scene!!!! I’m for any postive way to get his name out there! Sorry MJ..I if I’m OT.

I think that Subo will be big competition for Subo too. I appreciate that she has a lot of fans and is popular with some but her album samples are up now on Amazon UK .. and I practically fell asleep listening to them .. seems no variation in tempo or mood … just very dreary and dirge like to me … even Day Dream Believer has been turned into a snoozefest and the vibrato on her voice when she holds a note for more than one beat irritates me.

About this particular question of the day … why did they ask Adam to give advice to young artists trying to make it in the music industry … when he is a young artist trying to make it in the music industry. So far, he hasn’t shown that he, himself, can make make it in the music industry. He will, of course, but he hasn’t done it quite yet. They could have asked him about making it in the entertainment industry which would have included his stage experience … so that he wouldn’t have come off sounding presumptuous … which, in my opinion he did. So, yes, he gave an intelligent, useful, well thought out … but premature answer to a premature question. Yuck. I hope they start giving him better questions in the future. So far their questions have been pretty lame.

I’m super pleased about everything that is happening right now but I wish I hadn’t listened to this. So, back to regularly scheduled … happy … happy programming.

I find it incredibly odd that some people seem to think this is RCA’s first rodeo. They’ve been doing this shit for years. An enormous amount of planning (and money) goes into a new artist roll-out of Adam’s caliber. Believe me, there really is nothing to worry about.

I’ll keep saying it till it comes true ‘“ she and Adam SO need to be on stage together touring!!

Just finished watching the “Bad Romance” vid. I do enjoy Lady GaGa with her costumes, theatrics, etc. However (IMHO), Lady Gaga + Lord Lambert = one very wild and very scary combination!

I will trust in Kirsten and Q3 and others who say RCA has a master plan, but I do feel as if we are doing a lot of the work.

Yeah, I’m stoked about the numbers today, but again, this is the fanbase doing the heavy lifting. Besides some iTunes ads or internet ones like here (which can/do change periodically) I want RCA to get out there and push for Adam. He deserves it and again, shouldn’t just be relying on word of mouth or the free media, to pick up talking about him. This I felt was the problem before, which was taking all of Adam’s generated media, and focusing it on the right things. Right now the right thing is the single, and the album, but single first.

So it just frustrates me not to see as much being done FOR Adam to sustain the good stuff for the leaner times. You know, ant and grasshopper thing. It isn’t a sprint, but a longer race, and I want more water cups being given to Adam during the marathon by RCA. Or some such Boston Marathon analogy.

Thanks debbie and universal! I’ll definitely check out Y98 FM today. I’m usually listening to my Bowie and Queen CD’s in my car but I keep switching to the radio stations now hoping to hear FYE. Once I get Adam’s album I’ll have my three all time favorite musical artist playing in my car!! I can’t wait for Adam’s album!!

Just wondering, but how did Kris’ album do the first day it was out? He did some radio interviews and a few of those radio gigs. Did those help him with album sales?

I think the video helped Kris with LLWD. It seemed to get a nice boost after the video was released. (Is LLWD still climbing?) Maybe getting a video out there is a good idea!

and since I can’t edit my previous post…. I’d rather Adam spend every waking minute working toward making his AMA appearance stunning, incredible and memorable than have him appear at some radio station to discuss some shit I really don’t give a hoot about. That AMA appearance is worth far more than 100 radio promotions. Adam will reach millions in that one appearance.

But what I would like to see is some capitalization of this with radio play and radio interviews to sustain this. And besides an iTunes ad, which yeah, where are the radio adds from Top 40? Did he end up getting more than 4?

So, yes, he gave an intelligent, useful, well thought out ‘ ¦ but premature answer to a premature question. Yuck.

I think that most struggling artists in the music industry would consider Adam to have accomplished enough to provide pertinent advice regarding this issue. Further, I think most of them would consider him to be successful compared to where they are–which is struggling.

He’s still a step down from the top rungs of the ladder, that’s for sure, but he sure is close and his accomplishments so far leave him pretty high on the bell curve compared to the struggling masses, who are completely unknown.

Whether he’ll make the next step and become a top pop artist remains to be determined.

YAY! He has 17 ADDS this week now, 9 in Top 40. Go, Adam!!! Still a couple hours left, so get busy you radio stations! So 30 ADDS for 2 weeks!

I really think the live AMA performance will help tremendously. Plus…doing Letterman etc. I had to remind myself that there is so much on the books for Adam. His numbers are going to be insane. The live performances will be the key. Right now I think the numbers are predominantly boosted by the fanbase. The best is yet to come. And if TFM gets an Oscar nod…perhaps Adam will get to perform. I am a hand wringer. This is what I do. Trust, I know, trust!

IMHO, there was nothing wrong with the short question of the day interview. He has been in the entertainment industry for almost 11 years! He has always said that you can’t make it w/out a fan base, which is why he went on Idol. He wasn’t going anywhere as a chorus boy in Wicked, that’s for sure. So he’s saying that it doesn’t just *come* to you, you have to work your butt off AND you have to be business oriented. You also have to want to be a musician and know why you want it, and that there are options. I thought this was all very sage advice, and I think he should circulate the video, honestly. It’s like what he did when he met the kids at the performing arts school in San Diego. He was still #3 in the competition, but he now HAD his base, and so he could share the wisdom he had garnered. I bet he wishes someone else had sat down with him and told him what he’s telling others.

He also looks very cute in the video, but now my favorite is how he looked in the video with Rosanna. Emo hair!Adam FTW!!!

God, I can’t wait for the AMAs…

I am not worried at all about SuBo vs. anyone.
Even if she has sales numbers like Babs (her closest genre/album to compare). I don’t remember Babs cutting anyone off at the knees sales wise the week her album charted debut sales. She did really well but no records were set.
Each will do their own sales and I believe of any 2008 idol with albums Adam has the best chance and continued/sustained sales over time. (which is really the most telling)

On the RCA/19E front they are doing better then fine. Everytime we seem to fret over what they are doing a few days go by and something wonderful happens that garners even MORE press for Adam. I am confident in their ability to sell albums and I am confident that with each opportunity Adam is going to gain more and more fans (fans=sales).

We really have to stop looking at this day-by-day and start looking at it week-by-week or month-by-month to gain a better prepsective on the great things happening.

Sweet news. I have not even gone near iTunes yet. And you better believe I will be pre-ordering the deluxe edition of this ALBUM. This is what I’ve been waiting for. If his performance at the AMAs kicks butt, maybe I’ll even give in and buy a hard copy too!!! But Adam has to work to get me to spend the extra dough.

I think this is good news. But it would be even better news if the AMA performance pushes FYE into the top 10 on iTunes. That’s key. I think. (I don’t understand how someone can not like FYE. It’s overproduce pop sure, but it has a great hook, and it’s got an Adam scream. It’s seriously awesome.

That’s a nice way of putting that. Adam seriously knows his stuff. He was quite a gentleman the day I went to the early morning show live to see his performance of Mad World right after he lost AI.

Yes, to this! With all the radio promos Kris is doing, I have not heard one except for follwing them here at MJ’s. Radio promos are local and small potatoes compared to that AMA appearance. A video is huge too and it looks like that will be coming soon according to that director’s tweet.

I liked this too, you don’t have to like everything he does. I liked how they expressed their dislike without being snarky, bitchy or snotty.

We hadn’t loved the two songs we’d heard from Lambert so far: ‘ Time for Miracles’  from ’2012′  and first single ‘For Your Entertainment,’  but we’ve now gotten to hear the album and it holds together well. He can really sing, as anyone who has watched him on ‘Idol’  knows, and his fans from that show aren’t going to be disappointed by the sides of himself on display on ‘FYE.’  To his credit, he seems very serious about staying true to himself. He knows he may not go over well in some red states, but it’s much more important to him that he can sleep at night with the choices he’s made.

Yes!!!! This is exactly how I feel. I really think that when you’re given an opportunity like Adam has to perform in front of cajillions of people on a music awards show, THAT should be first priority. It’s only a couple of weeks away, and his single will still be there to promote more locally on radio stations after that. Many of us have seen how fabulous Adam is live, but I’m excited that a lot of people who may or may not have even heard about him will be given this treat for the first time November 22. I can’t wait to hear the buzz afterward! Also, yay to his I-Tunes successes today!

Then yes!!! You must not have completed the pre order purchase. Try Again. It will only come up if you have a pre order on file. My feeling is you may have only approved the purchase of the single. When you go through the process it will ask you if you want the pre order say yes then it will say something about ordering the single. I think you have to say yes for the pre order to be complete. If this does happen you can contact Itunes tell them you only wanted the pre order and not the single too as you already purchased it and they will credit you. It take about 2-3 days for the process of the credit.

Im really happy for him he totally deserves this, he worked very hard on this album and the tour and everything…
Things take time and its difficult to break out of the Idol bubble and go mainstream but hes totally doing it…
now all he needs is more radio play and everything will be perfect…esp since album sales look good.

Suebrody….Hi buddy…Go to Itunes and get to the single fye. Next to the purchase button is an arrow button that if you click it on will have a drop down menu the first item is gifting. click it on. You can only use gifting with a credit card. You can not gift with a gift card. Or a itunes card. Hope this answers your question

If I’m reading it right FYE got 21 combined adds this week. Is that right? I’m also very new to all these stats and things but it’s fascinating!!

Still can’t get my head round all the different radio formats though!

That is the way I read it, too, for a total of 34 adds in 2 weeks. Pretty good.

The decision has been made and I think that people have accepted it or have beeen accustomed to it. I don’t like that they put glampira, big boy, fugly Adam in the banner. Be bold. Put the glam album cover out there in all its proud androgeny. I think its pretty.

The only thing he said was in that recent interview is that he was disappointed that it didnh’t happen.
Maybe time constraints and Redone just not being available?

9 adds is okay but I expected RCA to get more. The song isn’t being played on any major markets in Top 40 yet. I think a St. Louis HAC station has the biggest market so far.

I thought Kiss LA was playing FYE? They would be a great add as would Z100.

I love it, too. Actually, I showed a picture of it to my mom, who’s a senior citizen who has never watched Idol and only knows about Adam because I can’t stop talking about him (I have played her songs he did on the show, and she thinks he has a fabulous voice), and she said that she thought it was “cool” and that he’s “…really pretty” in it. She totally got the kitschy vibe he was going for, so I don’t know why more people don’t like it!

Be bold. Put the glam album cover out there in all its proud androgeny. I think its pretty.

Well I am all sorts of confused because I count 19 but when I do a view history on all adds up to this point the total is 32. Which means then it would be 19 because I believe up until last week it was 13.

I would much rather have seen the puss/boots picture cause I like fantasy.. But the Cover has flare.

FYE is getting played on two formats. Top 40 where they play Britney and HAC where they play Nickelback. So the spins get counted on separate charts. Adam is getting a decent start but Jive is just better at working radio than RCA.

As I had stated before I find this to be great surprising news almost a good as the Itunes showings. I thought he would go down in Amazon as people would be wanting the Itunes extra songs so canceling their Amazon orders….but hopefully it’s because people also want a hard copy. Speaking of extra songs has anyone figured out any info on the bonus track Master Plan (really love that title)

About the radio adds-didn’t it say 23 before Adam started to get adds today? Or did it start at 13? I’m just confusing myself. Help!

I want RCA to get out there and push for Adam. He deserves it and again, shouldn’t just be relying on word of mouth or the free media,

As I understand it, most of the push goes on behind the scenes where fans are completely unaware of it. I don’t believe for a second that they aren’t pulling many strings that we don’t know about.

Adam’s Question of the Day today

About this particular question of the day ‘ ¦ why did they ask Adam to give advice to young artists trying to make it in the music industry ‘ ¦ when he is a young artist trying to make it in the music industry.

One thing we know about Adam is that he never rests on his laurels –he is constantly growing and learning and my take on his answer is that he is also talking about himself. Does he want to be rich and famous, does he want to entertain, or does he want to just make music? I think we all know the answer to that, but with all that his swirling around him about fame and celebrity, about CD numbers and sales (which he specifically mentions), about his choices in music, I think he was not only giving advice those who aspire to be where he is (so far), but also reminding himself how important it is not to be distracted and to focus on what his real goals are in the midst of all the chaos.

Adam has 4 songs on itunes pop chart – not to shabby.

LOL…just kidding. I’m honestly a little surprised Adam is doing so well on Itunes though because I don’t like FYE at all. My main complaint is that he has these huge MAD vocals, and this song has so much production in it that his voice gets lost. Adam is a super nice guy, but this style of music is just not my thing. I do wish him well, and I agree with Jamie Foxx…he’s gonna be stratosphere successful.

I do like those! People went crazy when Daughtry did his version of Power Face, these type of guys deserve the same kind of credit, IMHO; I know it’s not an extremely hard thing to do, but it’s cool, and the description of the video by the guy is nice.

Still, fye is just not an easy song to cover. Wouldn’t be my first choice on a karaoke night for sure.

Why would Adam want/need to sing songs on tour that didn’t make his album? Even if he wanted to (which I doubt ) if they aren’t his songs there are issues. And simply because someone plays the guitar it doesn’t make it easier for them to “arrange” songs. Some of the worlds greatest singers play one instrument – their voice. The arrangement of a good, memorable song relies more on artistic vision, creativity and a musicality that is almost impossible to teach.

I’ve heard a couple of interviews where Gaga has been pretty snarky and defensive. Not that the interviewer didn’t deserve it for asking ridiculous questions. I believe one of them was a German interview. I think she straightened Seacrest out too. Gaga has no trouble letting her NY tell-it-like-it-is attitude show.

Jive appears to be much better at radio than RCA and Kris has been working his butt off. I don’t understand why Adam isn’t doing radio promo. All artists, especially new ones have to do the things Kris has been doing. RCA is damn lucky that Adam attracts so much hype and has a big enough fan base that his album will sell pretty well even if they can’t push FYE up the charts before the album drops. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t try though. Someone needs to get off their ass.

Just got here. Reading through the thread. Was going to comment on the insecticide/firefly comment but I see everyone thought it was as funny as I did. Who sings about fireflies? Raffi or Barney, they are the only ones that should be singing a song about insects. I can’t think why it is so popular. Makes you wonder.

Just watched Michael Buble’ (?) sing Feeling Good on Dancing with the Stars and boy did they need Adam there to sing it. Adams version was way better.

Ah man it was such a calm day. But Gene was an ass.

I just pre-ordered the album in case that was necessary for getting the bonus tracks, but I haven’t been keeping up with the gathering storm. I’m assuming there’s not a video for the single yet, or remnants of the explosion would be visible. But does anyone know if a video has been shot, or planned? I’m really not impressed that Adam has called Gene a dick, even though Gene IS a dick.

I’m also a little disappointed that Adam doesn’t like Dylan’s voice, although I can understand that coming from someone with a perfect voice. I’ve always liked gravelly voices; I even liked Danny at the beginning of the season.

This is off topic a bit for this thread, but, when does the voting start for People Choice Awards?

Someone answered this, but word to the wise, you don’t have to vote for ALL the categories, just the ones you are interested in. I voted for all and in some of the categories I really couldn’t have cared less so it was a crap shoot.

Good news though, you can vote more than once so I’m going to go back and just vote for Adam in the breakout music star category. How many times, well I’m not going to go crazy, but a few.

You know, I have been thinking about the concern expressed over the fact that Adam is not doing a lot of radio interviews. I honestly think some of that will be happening after the AMA’s. If I recall, David Cook , Carry Underwood, or Daughtry did not do a ton of radio promo for their singles and their first albums did fine. And honestly, i don’t think those interviews do a lot as far as radio play. I mean I think Adam meeting the DJs for the bigger markets would be a great idea– like Gaga said in her excellent interview with Kidd Kradick, the DJs spin your music, but not a lot until the songs are added to the playlist. So I really think the way Adam’s peeps are doing things is OK. I think FYE will continue to get adds and spins and then Adam will do the AMA’s and his song will explode along hopefully with his album. And to compare,I didn’t hear Owl City doing radio promo a lot for his CD/single and he is now number one. I ddin’t hear Iyaz doing any radio promo…I could go on. I did hear Bieber doing some. So I think the labels think it works better for some artists than for others.

So if Adam doesn’t do the radio tour thing, I am ok with that. I don’t think its a key to his success as an artist.

One other thing. I think what bothers me about GaGa is that she is very pretty, but we rarely see that under her wigs and makeup and bizarre visual effects, etc. Once in a while, I would like to see HER sing and play piano, b/c she did so on SNL about a month ago and was terrific. So it’s fun when Adam plays dress up, but I feel a lot more connected to the Adam in the TfM video (forlorn!Adam) than the one we will probably get in the FYE video. Both are just fine, but I like balance, and I do not think we get any with GaGa, whereas on Adam it ran the gamut from RoF to WLL to MW and ToMT. It was so cool to see where he’d take us every week, and I hope that will be the case on his Tour as well, whether he is opening up for someone or touring alone with a band (and dancers, I am sure ).

DLee- He said Gene was BEING a dick when he spouted all that stuff about Adam not having a rock voice, that he should concentrate on Broadway, that he should not have come out because he had ruined his career. Gene said all this after having complimented Adam when KISS performed with him. I think that really smarted for Adam and he can hold a grudge apparently. I like that he is not afraid to speak his mind. He was asked a question and he answered it.

Adam will have plenty of songs for his tour because his albums will have at least 16 new songs. David Cook is doing a solo tour with less than that and just adds 2-3 covers each night.

And he performs songs from both most concerts. (Also, I believe his tracks add up to 16 if you add all hidden and bonus tracks too, don’t they?? But anyway…) He’s also performed songs that didn’t make his album…

Now, Adam does have his soon-to-be “prior album” Take One, but I don’t really see him performing any of those. Citizen Vein stuff though is possible, particularly if Monte Pittman is joining his band.

I don’t see it as an impossibility that Adam could perform songs that were not yet released. But I think a few choice covers are more likely.

Watching that “Bad Romance” video it occurred to me that Gaga is going to eventually run out of variations of ugly headgear, skintight see-through panties and bra outfits, gross-out visuals that are included for no reason except to come off as daring and risque and pa-pa-pa Poker face rip off choruses (i.e ra-ra-rama rama gaga gaga).

Just watched Michael Buble’ (?) sing Feeling Good on Dancing with the Stars and boy did they need Adam there to sing it. Adams version was way better.

I doubt Adam is a blip on Kanye’s radar so I doubt he’ll say anything. Gene Simmons loves the free publicity so he’ll def respond. But this story is old news. I’m surprised Adam brought it up again.

I think Adam was probably interviewed soon after Gene Simmon’s call-in interview with Howard Stern on October 9th. The issue was dead, then Gene brought it up again, not Adam. Here’s a summary of that interview:

Howard asked Gene about how he has managed and discovered bands over the years. He also claims that Adam Lambert has killed his career by coming out of the closet too early. Gene said that you have to take it off layer by layer and not just come right out and do it. Gene said it has nothing to do with being gay either. He said that you have to take the people through the process slowly and come out later in your career.
Gene said that Adam Lambert could have been in the band Queen and he would have been great as the lead singer there. He said that he turned it down though and that’s just a ”Duh” in his opinion. Gene said that he told the kid that he’s very talented and he should really just be quiet. He said the next thing he knew he was coming out of the closet and doing Britney Spears poses.

He didn’t say anything about Kanye on a personal level just that his kind of music isn’t his thing. He said he liked his visual style. I think some people make way too much out of these comments.

As for the Kanye thing, he was just expressing that he doesn’t like his type of music. And he did make sure to say something good about both of them also. I don’t think that is too open or wrong for him to say.
FWIW – I don’t like Kanye or rap either so it gives him more points in my book. At least I won’t have to worry about him going that route.

It’s a really good comparison because Cook’s a recent Idol alumn and so is Adam. Cook is finishing his first tour and Adam will be starting. Cook does 13-14 songs a night (I have setlists) mostly from Declaration. The purpose of the tour is to sell his current album.
Adam has 16 songs on his new album. So, Adam has more than enough songs for his tour.

I don’t know how easy it is to break out on your own, tho, and he doesn’t have any sort of band yet, unless he chooses peeps from Citizen Vein or Zodiac. Kris has Cale; not sure how the others came about, and I don’t know if he’ll be touring alone or not, but his is going to be, I would suspect, far more low-key and inexpensive (think back to the Tour AND to Idol) than Adam’s.

Exactly and what Adam said was mild in comparison to what Kelly and Pink said. I think Kayne at this point would do well in not responding to anyone who had a issues with his behavior. He was wrong and he knows it.

Gene deserved that.

His homophobia was really, really showing. At one point he even made an implied comparison between homosexuality and bestiality. His backtracking/explanations? Yeah, pretty much transparent.

But my first reaction to the Gene and Kanye comments was a bit of a cringe too. Kind of like… ohhh, that’s a bit too open for a guy just starting out. But eh. What can they do to him really? It’s cool that he doesn’t feel the need to filter himself, especially when his comments about each weren’t over the line in content.

I agree. I liked her earlier work when she was still novel, but for her to keep outdoing herself is going to become tedious. I think some straight singing and dancing is good too with a crazy video here and there, but all crazy stuff is just plain crazy!

That’s really why I don’t want Adam to tour with her. Danger of being too OTT. Ya gotta mix it up IMHO.

Regarding the GaGa video I actually like the song, although she is starting to sound a little repetitious. The visuals were striking and thought provoking but I get distracted by the fact that she can’t really dance. She shouldn’t rely so heavily on group choreography because it only serves to highlight that her dance movements are somewhat clunky and, frankly, the cat claw movements aren’t working for me.

ITA, revcat. And it’s been brought up before, but I do not want Adam seen as Mister GaGa. Srsly. He needs to break out on his own. He is doing one of her tracks (and one of Muse’s…oh, Muse, he could tour with Muse, lol) and one of Pink’s, and that’s totally cool, but he needs to establish his own identity. A one-off would be fine, of course, at a musical event, say (same with Queen, Aerosmith, if asked, etc.), but this is Adam’s solo effort and a chance to establish himself as a unique artist, not a clone.

I’d be willing to bet money that Adam would sing Boot Scootin Boogie before reprising any of demo songs the Hi Fi people are cashing in on.

Realistically, if Adam needs more songs to round out his sets on tour, he’s much more likely to do a handful of covers of better known songs rather than songs that didn’t make the album. His concert is much like his album, it needs to be a cohesive whole and it’s much easier to slot a reworking of a known song in the right genre and vibe to get the crowd going than something they’ve never heard of that wasn’t right for the album. Like David Cook and Little Lies.

But who knows? Adam could turn around and do something totally unexpected. It wouldn’t be the first time.

To be clear, I did not say there were no similarities, just that imo it’s not a good comparison. Cook has only duplicated a handful (or less) of set lists, now going on nearly the 10th month of this tour. And, he doesn’t sing all the songs from his album, David Cook, at every gig. He includes his past works and some covers.

Sure, if Adam wants to sing every song released and recorded for FYE every single time his performs, he can do that. But, I’m betting that he won’t.

BTW, yes, Cook is selling his album, but imo, he’s selling himself as an organic rocker first and foremost. Again, my opinion. YMMV.

All I can say to this is that Adam had the exact same “props” that Kris had on the Idol tour, no more, no less. Okay, okay…he did have the f***ing!!! Jacket, but nothing else. Adam didn’t have dancers, didn’t have flames, didn’t have anything extra than the others, yet still got 50 out of 52 tour reviewers talking about his visually and vocally exciting performance.

No, I meant that they have set up a band for Kris, that’s all. I dont’ know that Kris could actually sustain his own tour, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he toured as an opening act for someone like a Mat Kearney. I don’t know. I think Adam could certainly go out on his own in mid-size venues (2000-5000, b/c I think smaller wouldn’t work), but I don’t know how it usually works. And honestly, I haven’t been following what’s going on with Kris, and how his band formed. I don’t think he got to pick anyone but Cale, did he?

ETA: Maybe it just always felt different to me, b/c Adam’s performances have often been bigger (in a great way–sound, lighting, choreo) than Kris (pretty much Kris at a piano or with his guitar).

If Adam has Monte in his band, then he has one of the best guitarist in the music business. I don’t know a thing about Cale, but I have read about Monte, plus heard him play, he’s fantastic.

True, he doesn’t do the same setlist every night, but he only varies it by 2-3 songs. Some nights he does “Hot for teacher” some nights he doesn’t. His show is about 1 hr. 20 minutes long and he does 13-14 songs a night (some are covers and not from Analog Heart.)
Adam has 16 songs on this album, some old songs, and covers he’s been doing for several years in his cabaret shows. I am just saying Adam has plenty of songs for a solo tour or as an opening act.

And why even fuel this fire at all when the focus should be on his music? Being defensive like Adam did, does nothing, but make him seem defensive and him as the arrogant one. And frankly at this point, people are going to say there is a pattern of his being arrogant and snarky. Which why bother? Why feed into that? Why not just shrug the shoulders and go ‘whatever, and I’ll let my music do the speaking for me.’

Adam does things like this, sometimes the mouth doesn’t fully engage to the brain. While most of the time he’s very articulate and in the moment, sometimes he doesn’t seem to think before he speaks and creates more drama for himself than need be.

LOL well it’s been a half a day since the wonderful euphoria of the iTunes charts this morning, and I see that Adam is already endangering his career again by speaking his mind about that absolute prick Gene Simmons.

Adam has come through a media blizzard the last several months relatively unscathed, plus I’m not sure who would actually stand up and take Gene Simmons side on this. I mean, can you imagine someone saying, “Yeah, Gene was right, Adam should have kept his mouth shut and pretended to be straight” or “What are you talking about, Gene Simmons has one of the finest voices in rock!” Seriously? I think these is yet another tiny little Idol thing that gets blown out of proportion in The Bubble.

I don’t understand why Adam always has to be PC. He didn’t say anything wrong. Can only anonymous people have opinions? Gene was being a dick. Adam can call him on it. Gene won’t have any impact on his career, as he doesn’t have that kind of power. Adam is extremely deferential to a fault. He doesn’t always have to be. I respect Dylan as a songwriter, and as an Icon, but his voice sometimes either makes me laugh, or makes me cringe. I frankly don’t think that Dylan will give a flying fig what Adam has to say. I also don’t think that Kanye will be upset that one AI contestant doesn’t appreciate rap. For the most part, I don’t either. If I can say it, so can Adam. He doesn’t have to bow to people just because he is beginning his career. Furthermore, he was complimentary to both Kanye and Dylan, Gene deserved no such treatment.

Now if he went around saying one of the Simons was a dick, or that Freemantle was the devil, then I would worry for his career. I frankly appreciate some candor, tired of all of the stepford idols.

We worry so much about every step Adam takes, that we forget that one of the things that many of us like, and come to expect is that he is honest, and forthright. That isn’t a vice, it’s a virtue, imho.

Actually, that was someone else’s point. My point was, much like yours, that he’ll probably draw from other sources — prior work and covers, and maybe an unreleased work would not be out of the question, though less probable than the former. I think we’re saying the same thing, just differently — perhaps diverging on opinions about whether he’ll reach into his bag of recorded but not released songs for this album.

I did take issue with comparing Cook, and still do, for the reasons stated. Cook has more work from which to draw, imo. But, since we’re both big Cook (and Adam) fans — I too have seen Cookie in concert YAY, though I’ve not been afforded the luxury of multiple concerts just yet — all’s good by me!

Well if he is just the guy who finished second on AI. Why the heck would Kayne care what he said. Adam is human, he is not perfect. (NO Really) He will not always say or do things that I think are appropriate but I have the choice not to listen to him then. I love Adam’s voice and because of that I will take the occasional objectionable human behavior that I don’t agree with. But that is just me.

Nothing is bringing me down from this album high. It is too satisfying to be able to say he got so high on iTunes after all the unwarrented negativity yesterday. Gene said nasty nasty things and got what he deserved. I put this in the other thread, this is something I read somewhere, “Adam is like those plush velvet curtains that are so soft and pretty until you rub them the wrong way”. LOL!

I don’t understand why Adam always has to be PC. He didn’t say anything wrong. Can only anonymous people have opinions? Gene was being a dick. Adam can call him on it. Gene won’t have any impact on his career, as he doesn’t have that kind of power. Adam is extremely deferential to a fault. He doesn’t always have to be. I respect Dylan as a songwriter, and as an Icon, but his voice sometimes either makes me laugh, or makes me cringe. I frankly don’t think that Dylan will give a flying fig what Adam has to say. I also don’t think that Kanye will be upset that one AI contestant doesn’t appreciate rap. For the most part, I don’t either. If I can say it, so can Adam. He doesn’t have to bow to people just because he is beginning his career. Furthermore, he was complimentary to both Kanye and Dylan, Gene deserved no such treatment.

Now if he went around saying one of the Simons was a dick, or that Freemantle was the devil, then I would worry for his career. I frankly appreciate some candor, tired of all of the stepford idols.

Kelly and Pink are well established in the business and can get away with certain things. Adam is far from established. Right now he’s still ‘that guy who finished second on AI’ He can’t be pissing off people at this point.

I agree its not the best thing to start off your career with negative comments about other artists, but at the same time you dont want to be perceived as a liar or a hypocrite who sucks up to other performers just because they are more famous…Adam was answering the questions honestly and I totally agree with what he said…
IMO Gene Simmons is a dick who cant sing to save his life, Bob Dylan is an amazing singer-songwriter but his voice is not all that thrilling…its all about style for him…I only disagree with him about Kanye West…I do like his music and his visuals…its his attitude I dont like but thats just my personal taste and Adam has his..

1) Adam was asked the question about Gene, he didn’t just bring him up out of nowhere.

2) I think it is also important to include that adam explained his feelings in terms of Gene’s hypocrisy that talking about his sexuality would kill his career when all Gene does is talk about HIS sexuality.

Beautifully said! Gene is trying to play the “i’m a big-ass rockstar” card, and Adam gave back to him as good as he got. I admire Adam for standing up for himself and being a brave fierce guy and NOT a hypocrite. He wants success on his own terms and isn’t going to roll over and allow himself to be stepped on just because he’s new.

Who really cares if Adam called Gene a dick? He said what a lot of people actually think about Gene. It’s a non issue and as for Kanye, compared to what a lot of famous people have said about Kanye, Adam was being nice. If anyone get’s pissed off at Adam for “supposedly” insulting more famous people, they will simply have to get over it. I doubt a lot of Gene’s and Kanye fans, was actually going to buy his music anyway.

i can see how it MIGHT be a distraction… but i think it might actually be a productive comment… i think he is establishing himself as a really nice guy that is incredibly articulate, charming and smart… but he is also not one to be pushed around. because he is a little “out there” in many ways… it might be a good thing to make it clear you wont let people be assholes to you. if he starts seeking out opportunities to bitch about people, THEN we have a problem. but if someone says something shitty about him and he is asked about it (e.g., clay & gene), i see nothing wrong with him putting his snarky snakeskin boot down. especially when there is truth in his comments – gene was being a homophobic asshole, and clay was bringing him up to get attention.

Gokey is in a league of his own, where for the most part, he is not particularly intelligent enough to pick his spots. Sad, but true. I wasn’t one of those worried about RCA dropping the ball, they have been doing pretty good so far.They have helped him put together a great album and now we are all seeing the fruit of their labor. His album has been doing great on Amazon and now it’s been released on itunes, with wonderful presales so far. All they need to do is set up interviews so he can talk and then just let him sing. I think all of us have seen how great he is singing live, from watching the show and then the tour. I can’t wait to see him on the AMA and then Ellen and David Letterman.

Yes, HAC stations add on Mondays and Top 40 on Tuesdays.

It didn’t just happen months ago. Gene Simmons called into Howard Stern on October 6th and trashed Adam again for coming out. I posted this upthread:

The issue was dead, then Gene brought it up again, not Adam. Here’s a summary of that interview:

Howard asked Gene about how he has managed and discovered bands over the years. He also claims that Adam Lambert has killed his career by coming out of the closet too early. Gene said that you have to take it off layer by layer and not just come right out and do it. Gene said it has nothing to do with being gay either. He said that you have to take the people through the process slowly and come out later in your career.
Gene said that Adam Lambert could have been in the band Queen and he would have been great as the lead singer there. He said that he turned it down though and that’s just a ‘ Duh’  in his opinion. Gene said that he told the kid that he’s very talented and he should really just be quiet. He said the next thing he knew he was coming out of the closet and doing Britney Spears poses.

Thanks gemini1 for the info. I know everyone is really excited for the AMAs and I am too but I am even more excited for the GMA concert. Since it is just Adam, this means he will get to sing several songs right? And this means he will perform more stuff from his album. The thought that he might sing Soaked, Loaded Smile, Sleepwalker or Broken Open is so exciting! Can you imagine these songs LIVE in a couple weeks?

I do not understand wts all the fuss about Gene Simmons’ remark. It probably would have been better to Adam’s career has he done it gradually, and he did do Brittany poses and music (FYE). That Adam has a great voice is not questionable but the way he came out, although politically important might not have been the wisest thing. and it’s not even the way he came out– why would a gay man shoot racy pictures on details which is a gay magazine?!! of all things, that was just out of place.

The photos of Adam and his gorgeous partner are well, just gorgeous. It’s beautiful and provocative art. I think Adam came out before Details though.

I may be biased but I don’t find Adam’s take on Gene offensive. Huh? Adam came out at the very end of his senior year in high school, and has lived as an openly gay person ever since. There was no closing that door , even if he wanted to! He had nothing to hide , and no reason to hide anything!
As for the Details shoot, what does it matter if he is gay or straight? It is a editorial photo-shoot, not candids from his life. It’s like saying it was out of place for Tom Hanks to play the gay man with AIDS in Philadelphia.
As for being racy? I’ve seen clothing ads that were a lot racier than the Details shoot!
Adam is being true to himself, which is one of the reasons I like him so much! He may be a beautiful glittery alien, but he is also so real!!!!

Those are some of my favorites, I hope he will get a chance to at least sing three songs. If I had a choice, Sleepwalker, Broken Open and FYE.

Gene Simmons has no right to dictate to Adam or the media how Adam should handle his career…furthermore, I dont think it was a surprise to most (it certainly wasnt for me) after having seen the pictures of Adam kissing other guys that he was gay, so for him to claim otherwise would be a blatant LIE to the public and to his fans…
and Gene did at one point say Adam is not a good rock singer which is complete bullshit and he knows it…
I for one care mostly about the music and the artist that creates it…Adams personal life is none of my business.
Having said that, I do think laying it all on the table was a good decision because now no one will keep speculating so the focus can and SHOULD now be focused on the music…
I admire him for his honesty and for not manipulating the situation in order to profit from every angle even if it did mean lying to his fans, which is really what Gene was suggesting and that to me would have been a sleazebag move…
