Actually, it began yesterday afternoon when my site began to slow up, eventually becoming inaccessible.

After a bit of back and forth with the folks who host my website, we deterimined the site was experiencing a DDoS attack.   More about that here if you don’t know what that is.

Basically someone or someone set off a web attack to render my site inaccessible.   Isn’t that awesome?   My server guys put in some filters that shut down last night’s attack.   But this morning’s attack was different and more persistant.   I was moving to another server anyway, so the decision was made to just go ahead and move me to the new server with an upgraded operating system that could be configured to prevent future attacks more efficiently.

So. Could it be that someone’s mad at me? *snerk*.

Anyway, looks like we’re back in business.   Sorry for the interruption.   I’ll be playing catchup for the next hour or two, so watch out for more posts.

If you’re in the So You Think You Can Dance pool, don’t forget to make your picks before 9 PM ET.

Wow – an attack on this site? Any clue as to who does this sort of thing or is it just random?

  • AC

heh heh.. maybe they knew some scandalous stuff was going down and they wanted to prevent you from talking about it.. there was few good stuff that happened last night.

  • lola

I was a bit worried. I missed my daily mjsbigblog morning routine. I’m glad it’s back.

  • Squirrely

Boy was I having withdrawals. I’m relatively new here but became an addict rather quickly.

  • itsalleternal

I sure hope it isn’t TPTB that are attacking you! (Of course, they must be angry that hits on their site have plummeted lately while hits here have skyrocketed).

  • auntieaimee

Wow, there really are a lot of jerks in this world, huh? Glad you worked it out, mj. You did your thing. You made it your own. You dare to dance in the path of greatness. Many more superlatives that I can’t think of at the moment…

  • alxsavage

I’m glad to see your site back MJ, this morning when I was having my breakfast and entered the site to get the morning idol news and saw your site offline, I had a small panic attack, your blog is extremely addicting.

  • Victoria

Why would someone want to attack this site? The only thing I can think of is the Archie stuff yesterday.

Anyway, glad it’s working again! I love this place :)

  • lifeisfun

I agree w/ AC, there were a couple of scandalous articles yesterday, maybe someone wanted to stop a spread of information. This site gets tons of views and other sites use info from here to write their own articles. If they wanted to stop people from reading certain info they would start here.

  • lizardino

Wow, some people need to get a life, don’t they? I’m glad you were able to get everything resolved so quickly, MJ. Like everyone else here, I need my fix of Idol craziness!

  • Sunn

Welcome back. I’m very glad to see that all is well again.

  • leome

Uf, It’s been a busy idol week… we learnt about the scene queen sub-culture, how massages can turn into prostitution and how to trend #1 on twitter and now MJ is under attack.

Good that you’re back and that their attacks don’t create any damage!
And yeah.. I have some voting to do! Thanks for the reminder. And it’s good to have the site back. :)

  • taran33

I was having problems loading your site last night and was blaming my ISP…lol

Glad you’re back and proud that you are important enough to be hacked!

  • snood199

Glad you’re back and hope it doesn’t happen again.

  • kijico3

Phew, I was having major withdrawals, thank goodness you’re back :smile1_tb:

  • Kirsten

Why would someone want to attack this site? The only thing I can think of is the Archie stuff yesterday.

I saw some people who posted last night annoyed about what MJ had posted about their favourite (“feign-gate”). They were already busy in one bombing campaign, maybe they decided to hit her too while they were at it.

    LOL.

Who knows? Sometimes a cyber-attack is just a cyber-attack (i.e. some people think DoS attacks are funny. I think those people need to get a life).

  • cookcricket

LOL Kirsten!! I almost asked what you were talking about and then realized who posted this!

I’m so glad you’re back mj! I too was going through withdrawel! :)

  • agathe.hb

MJ, I thought I was only addicted to dry white wine :) NOT!!!

  • Tess

Thanks MJ….I finally got up and ran some errands. I’ll remind you next time I have things to do to make sure you take the site down so that I don’t miss anything! Now where were we?

I’m going to get all lollipops and roses here and say that I haven’t ever been to a site that is as fun and respectful as this one. It takes a bit of thought to phrase stuff so that MJ doesn’t have to scold me….but it is great mental exercise. Welcome back…even a few hours off line was horrendous.

Oh and, by the way, you’ve reached top tier when someone puts you on their list for sabotage.

  • Niall

So can Jeff Archuleta account for his whereabouts last night and this morning, hmmm? LOL

I think Idletard may have been targeted as well. From what I can tell, they’ve been down since around the same time mjs went down.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Really sorry you have to deal with that kind of crap, mj! But, thank you for keeping us up to date on the status via Twitter. Welcome back! :)

  • Kirmacat

I think Idletard may have been targeted as well. From what I can tell, theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been down since around the same time mjs went down.

Yeah, they have been down for a while, and I don’t think that they got new servers like MJ. Hope they get back up soon, but if I had to pick between them, I would definatly pick MJ. Glad you’re back up!

P.S. Idletard didn’t get attacked the same way MJ did, they’re just having server issues.

Actually my site is not down due to DDOS attack. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a server issue.

(Comment from Idletard admin on TopIdol forum things)

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

I was beginning to think my internet connection was wonky until I clicked on other links and got them to come up successfully.

When it all started last night and especially today, I figured you had gotten a big surge of hits from the Jeff Archuleta scandal and that the server was probably overloaded.

The sabotage stuff is just crazy! Some people are really pathetic with no lives.

Glad to see you back up and running MJ. :)

  • adamaniac85

i cannot believe some one tried to bring this siet down….i need this site like i need the air i breath….i must know all the latest about adam…or i cannot go on.

  • BootStar

Oh, thank God. That was an unbearable several hours to be without my fix.

Are we speculating who’s responsbible? Should we have a pool? Let’s round up the usual suspects, shall we?

    1. DCU

    2. Unhinged Glamberts who were jealous that DC’s “Scene Queen” story stole their boy’s thunder.

    3. Fans of Dadchuleta, who was jealous that Adam Lambert and David Cook were getting too much free press for their sexual escapades and figured if you can’t beat them . . .

    4. Larry Craig, who was jealous that Jeff Archuleta is getting all the press these days in Utah for sex scandals.

  • spring2009

Honestly – I used to have a life of sorts, really I did. Better get a cocktail – I have some catching up to do.

  • Victoria

So can Jeff Archuleta account for his whereabouts last night and this morning, hmmm? LOL

I was thinking the exact same thing! :lol_tb:

  • Dr. Tracey

Well phoey on those party poopers, people like that suck.
I can’t do without my daily dose of MJ’s, it’s like chocolate, i’m addicted.

  • jpfan

Wow. They cyberworld is getting a little crazy lately.

You should probably add #5, Danny Gokey’s Church. The internet exploded more about the “dannyisadouche” tweeting than it did about Archie’s dad.

  • will

At the risk of sounding dense or unhip, I have to ask — what’s DCU?

  • maturin

Maybe there’s a secret headquarters somewhere where the Cheesy Enemies Of MJ’s lurk. The MJenemies, if you will.

Scattered with tear-stained pictures of Clay Aiken, discarded GokeyGear eyewear, a local Utah police blotter, a dartboard with Kim Caldwell’s picture on it, Billboard chart print outs with scribbled calculations in the margins, a few now-faded Flat Jason Castros, some fan fiction with anatomically incorrect gay sex scenes . . . and donuts.

    Their revenge, they plot it.

  • oceanarose

Man that sucks but glad you’re back. Just found this site this season but am very addicted. This is one of the days at work where I am allowed to sit on the internet all day and your site goes down. I wasn’t sure where else to spend my internet time.

PS.. I agree that one of the reasons I come here is because it is well monitored and for the most part intelligent and respectful discussions. Keep up the great work and thanks!

This week is really bringing the snark!

  • weareallinnocent

LOL at all the theories of who’s responsible!

Sorry that happened MJ. I’ve not been around much lately, but yesterday when it was so slow to get on, I started running scans on my computer convinced it was my issue! :-) Good to know it wasn’t. And great that you’re back up and running.

    BTW, what’s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ feign-gateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? (I’d hate to miss a funny!)

  • will

    BTW, whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ feign-gateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ? (Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d hate to miss a funny!)

MJ wrote that Adam “feigned surprise” when told by Nancy O’Dell of Access Hollywood that he was on People magazine’s list of Hottest Bachelors. Some people thought that was unacceptably cynical.

  • weareallinnocent

LOL Thanks for filling me in.

I guess some peeps are a little sensitive? I dunno. I love the heck out of Adam, truly, but I saw that piece when it aired and I remember thinking, “He doesn’t really seem too surprised (like he knew about the article already) to me.” Seriously! Oh well…

  • http://twitter.com/nokking nokking

I’m an Adam fan and I’m not at all offended by the feign-gate thing, so wasn’t me, haha.
Glad you’re back, love you and your site :clap_tb:

  • BootStar

DCU = DavidCookUnhinged, er Uncensored (?), I thiink.

Some crazyass David Cook fansite I’d never heard of until the hysterical Lana Jade nonstory “broke.”

  • SybilTrelawney

MJ: DDoS attacks may violate federal law. If you know who was responsible, you might want to consult a lawyer.

As for the question about DCU: it stands for David Cook Uncensored, which was involved in releasing the pictures of David Cook not having sex with Lana Jade earlier this week. Once the pix were posted there, the members went nuts because the pictures, although not showing David Cook and Lana Jade having sex, suggested that they might have had sex at some point in time when photographers were not present.

Warning: if you go to DCU to check it out, bring your bottle of brain bleach. These are people who “feign” love for David Cook, and then talk about how horrible he is for allowing himself to be photographed not having sex with some bleached blonde bimbo, and they still haven’t forgiven him for Kim Caldwell.

  • tierbee

DCU = DavidCookUnhinged, er Uncensored (?)

    LOL! Same thing :)

I’m glad I am not the only one who freaks out when I can’t get on here. Refresh… oh no!… refresh… gah!… refresh refresh refresh… DAMMIT!

    I need help :)

  • noctem seizure

DCU = DavidCookUnhinged, er Uncensored (?)

I’m not defending DCU by any means (I hadn’t even heard of it until yesterday), but I could probably come up with a few new names that the acronym “DCO” could stand for too.

Fan sites all contain their own variant of evil….

“Hey kids, noctem says “just say no” to fan boards!”

  • Tony

That sucks, MJ. It was probably Mario Vazquez. Still pissed that no one’s talking about him.

  • http://topidol.wordpress.com TopIdolBlog

Mario Vazquez is pissed off Lambert stole his boyfriend and Matt Giraud stole his entire collection of fedoras.

  • sneezepaddle

Anyone who would shut down MJ’s is an ass and a terrorist! Stop trying to spoil the enjoyment for thousands of people who visit this site daily! To the culprit: I hope you get an all over body rash and develop chronic Halitois! I also hope you get caught! :furious_tb:

  • tinawina

Damn, I miss all the fun! Site outage? DDoS attack! Le scandal!

I’m glad you made it through okay, mj!

  • oceana

MJ wrote that Adam à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“feigned surpriseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ when told by Nancy Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Dell of Access Hollywood

I doubt it was a condemnation of Adam, not even an insult, probably just an accurate description of what Adam did. Darn, now I have to go watch the video in case I’m all wet here. But feigning surprise could be done for politeness, or for comedic effect, or because maybe he thought he was supposed to feign surprise. That’s not anything bad and I’m sure mj didn’t mean it that way either.
