The newest rumor about Clive’s pick for Archie is “Go the Distance” by Michael Bolton according to some insider in Archie’s camp, via the Knoll thread on TWoP. And something about Archie’s pick being Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” but no word on whether it’s been cleared.

Clive David is going to pick songs for them? Oh, jeez. We’ve already seen how incapable the producers are in picking songs for the contestants, and now we’ve got Clive picking some new crap. Great.

The Jonas Brothers will be appearing. Finally, something the kids will love. According to recent Nielsen data, the kids havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been loving much about Idol these days.

Well, I, for one, have floved Idol this season. That said — eww, the Jonas Brothers? You have got to be KIDDING me…

I GET TO GO! I GET TO GO! The lovely and brilliant Caffiend got tickets for both nights! I can’t go on Tuesday since I’ll be out of town (she will have to be the solo spoiler for that show) but I get to go on Wednesday! They are saying to get there by 1:30 but Caff says peeps are going to be lining up at 10:00 a.m. for a 5:00 live show. That’s going to be a long day standing – but sooo worth it. I hope we don’t get stuck in the nosebleed seats and get a spot in the pit.

My guess is they loved little Archbooleta, hated everyone else, then sat down for 2 hours every Tuesday night letting their homework catch dust while managing to talk to their friends about how “cute” and “awesome” and “amazing” little D was that night via landline phone in one hand, and sending in texts for him via cellphone in the other hand.

“Bryan Adams is performing at the finale. his reps have been pitching him to radio stations for interviews next week.”

DA had Bryan Adams listed as one of his musical influences.

Clearing songs for a tour is way different than broadcasting it via any media. Basically the promoters have a blanket license and you can sing any published song, so Jason can sing Crazy even if it never gets cleared by AI

According to Jason, Cee-Lo Green gave AI his approval for “Crazy” and DJ Dangermouse was the holdout. Days before Jason was eliminated, the Dreadheads, Castronauts and Castrocopians began a campaign to bombard Dangermouse with postcards and letters hoping to change his mind so Jason could perform the Ray LaMontagne version of “Crazy” during top 3 week or the finale.

How ironic it will be if that campaign ends up helping ArchuD2. :blink_tb:

Uhm. No. We discussed the coronation songs. Slezak forced himself, he said, to listen to them for something he wrote. And anyway, Slezak isn’t one for rumors. He doesn’t even look at the spoilers. He asked me if the the Bryan Adams thing was true.

The fact that OneRepublic will be at the finale has made my day better. :]

That is great that you are going. Why in the world do they make you come so early when you have tickets and what would be the benefit of that?

I heard they switched peoples seats around and put the good looking people up front. I read that in an article some where.

DA (and Jason and Asiah) did “Crazy” during the Hollywood rounds and all DA’s fans have also been waiting to hear his rendition since he got rave reviews. I hope he gets to do it, and I think it’ll make up for that crappy Producer’s choice “Longer”. Yeah it sucks for the Castronaunts, but that’s not DA’s fault. The crappy themes this year really restricted all the kids.

I really hope that the Clive rumor is not true. Please let DA and DC pick their own material! They know what they want to sing. Please let them represent themselves the way they want to. Ugh.

re: D-squared duet of “Apologize”…that’s one of my favorite songs at the moment. I think that DC would be amazing on it, actually. DA has the vocal chops, but I just can’t picture him singing that. I mean, it’s about intense heartbreak…I don’t know about all of DC’s past relationships, but most 25 year olds can relate to that song on some level. Little sheltered DA…not so much. But, hey, maybe he’ll surprise us. We’ll see!

I think every year the two finalist sing a duet so I’m sure this year will be no different. The difference in singing styles and also in height will be very noticable IMO. I’m not new to the Internet and visit lots of sites but I can’t figure out what TWoP is, can someone please tell me as I see it mentioned occasionally on here. I listened to the inteview by David Foster and he seem to think DC’s performances kindof slid downward the last few weeks but feels he still might win (altho he’s for DA) I agree and hope DC kicks it up a notch this week and bring back the magic .

Well I am sitting here listening to ace young addicted being played on a syracuse station. It would be nice if idol would give him a spot on the finale. They have had others on. Addicted is climbing the charts and his album will be here in July. Perfect timing.

I have a hard time seeing Archie doing “Crazy” if it is approved. I know they say it was good during H’wood week, but I see it as another “With You” moment. IMO.

What piece of crap is Clive going to hurl at Cook? Clive’s choice could be even worse than the coronation song. I don’t think Clive likes Cook at all and his involvement in this could be very bad news for DC. I was hoping Clive had been put out to pasture but I guess not.

Yea! Sounds like the finales of past years, where they give the Top 5 their due and let them each have a solo/duet spot with an established artist. I hated Season 6 where they didn’t do this. Wonder who they will get for each to perform with???

And let’s hope for relevant pop artists as guests, not old has-beens like Bette Midler….. like her, but she is not relevant to today’s charts….

The only thing I’ve seen about Bryan Adams was on his website. He will be doing a concert in L.A. on Mon. the 19th so maybe he’ll stick around for Idol on Wednesday.

Ahh, from a Disney soundtrack. How appropriate. It seems slightly more exciting than Longer, but not by much. It’s still a sit on a stool, outstretch your hand and squint kind of song, but it plays to DA’s strengths.

I haven’t see any evidence or even hints about how Clive feels about either David. I know how Clive feels about units sold, and I would imagine that he would see a certain number of $$$ as far as DC is concerned. That being said, most of his picks for contestants in the past have been crap. I wouldn’t mind if he went back to Springsteen like he did for Taylor (even the cheesy “Dancing in the Dark” was pretty great compared to his picks for Kat and Elliott). “Thunder Road” or “I’m on Fire,” perhaps.

Ouch. My friend and I used that song in a power point on Oedipus the King our senior year of hs. We were trying to be funny by picking the cheesiest songs known to man. It’ll suit his voice though.

I’m really looking forward to seeing all the contestants at the finale. I think it was a good group this year, and I’m looking forward to seeing several of them. May there be many cheesy group-sings full of horrible dancing!

I really think they need to let them rearrange whatever the coronation song is, regardless of which one got chosen. Blake should’ve been more tactful when giving his opinion on the matter, but he was right when it came down to it. They harp on song choice all season long, and then they saddle them with a song that is destined to fit one contestant better than the other. IMO, the coronation song ruined the finale last year. I usually love both Blake and Jordin’s voices and I thought they were pretty evenly matched in terms of what they had done on the show. Then they bust out with a song that is EXACTLY what Jordin excelled at and EXACTLY what Blake sucked at. He hit most of the notes and belted out the whole 95% of the song that requires belting, but he still sounded strident and nasal, and he had never sounded like that before IMO. He would have been a crappy winner because of the way he interviews, but it would have been way more fun as a viewer to watch them both sing songs that they could be reasonably expected to do well on. I do think they’ll let them rearrange it this year though. They seem to like both Davids.

As a fan of Archie’s I’ve been dying to hear him sing Crazy. So I would be happy.

I will hold my nose for whatever Clive picks for either of them, but I knew that he would be involved. I said weeks ago that rumours of his demise were indeed premature, this guy is like Cher, and cockroaches, they freaking always survive. He very well may be Exec. Producer on either cd. That’s not a good or bad thing exactly as it can go either way.

I think each of them should do a reprisal, but not the one that got the best feedback as a second rendering is likely to be a pale imitation. So no Angels or Imagine for Arch, and no Hello or Billie Jean for Cook. I would actually do a song that I screwed up on and make it better. That way you would probably not get a “it sounded better a few weeks ago” comment from the judges.

It’s funny though since the ratings are down for Archie’s demographic, who the hell is voting for him? I mean I was powerful to keep Syesha in until this week, but damn. LOL!

Dang it! I was emailed by on camera audiences on the 14th evening that there were vouchers available for Tuesday and Wednesday. I didn’t check my email until late last night. Of course, they were all gone by then. I checked airlines just for the heck of it – $986.

My suggestions for AI next year? Why not film in Nashville! With so many of the contestants heading into country music, it seems to be a valid venue.
The fact I could then drive there to catch the shows, well then that would be a bonus! The Finale could be at the Grand Old Opry!

I like the idea of them being able to change the arrangement of the Idol song. It doesn’t make sense to not allow it. What’s the point in that?

It’s potentially a single for them, so they should get to do it in their own style. I thought it was completely unfair that Blake Lewis had to sing it as written.

I’m looking forward to seeing what David Cook will do with the song. It would be nice it they were doing different songs, like season five, but with the contest I doubt it. There is probably only one winning song.

I don’t like the idea of a Clive Davis pick. Why do more picks for them this week? They are often so lame. Yeah, Taylor got the best pick in season five, but there were better songs than Dancing in the Dark from Springsteen he could have picked.

Thank you, cheese. Can I ask where this notion that Clive hates David C. came from? That seems like quite an assumption to make with nothing very concrete to back it up. Is this because of the Roger Friedman articles? Because if it is even though Roger is known to be Clive’s puppet he also spews quite a bit of garbage that Clive has nothing to do with. I seriously doubt every thing he says or writes about Clive is behind.

Maybe I’m just thinking through rose colored Cooktard glasses, but I’m really not concerned about what song he is given. He’s taken songs I’ve hated in the past and turned them into songs I actually want to listen to. Catching up on the spoilers. I hope they really are having two from each previous season return for the finale. I can think of a dozen I’d love to see again, Elliott being one of them. I’m sure Jordin will be there and maybe even Melinda? They really should have Clay on what with his new album just released. This is probably what excites me most about the finale, actually!

Just want to contribute here about Archie’s performance of “Crazy-Gnarls Barkley” using the keyboard during Hollywood week audition just before he was about to do “Heaven-Bryan Adams”. Paula says you are Awesome, Awesome! and Simon says I thought…you are INCREDIBLE!! Hence, I really am curious on how he will do it during the Top 2 Finale.

Actually, after looking at his performance of Heaven (Bryan Adams) and World to Change (John Mayer-Fiirst auditio), I rather have him perform these 2 songs rather than “Go the Distance” but that “Go the Distance” sounds like a coronation song and I like that song. And yeah, the producers should have picked that song for Arch instead of that wedding song “Longer” during Top 3.

Yeah, I agree with you. I am a fan of both Davids. I am not a tweener cos I am 30. I have been a fan of Archuleta since his audition of “Waiting For The World To Change” audition than I became a bigger fan since his “Imagine”. I wept actually after he sang “Imagine”. I begin to like David Cook since “Hello” but LOVE him since “Billie Jean”. Ever since then, I think either both of them should win. Having said that, I don’t know why deep down I am rooting for Arch more even though I know Cook will win even deserve to win at this point. Arch humbleness just made me want him to win. I think their performance during the Top 2 should judge which David should win.

Actually yes Ace is getting major play in syracuse and knoxville. He is in pretty much a regular rotation on both of those stations. He is doing well and it is climbing up the charts nicely.

I suspect Ace is getting airplay in Syracuse on 93Q because they sponsor the Balloon Festival in June and Ace is performing at the event. Still, airplay is airplay.

Yes I dont care why he is getting airplay because it is exposure and a new artist needs that. Hopfully it will continue to gain spins at all the stations that he is being played on and it will continue to go up the charts

Plus it is a good song. The guy has worked his tail off for two years to pay for an album he said cost more then a label would of gave him for the production. He used no protools so when he sings live you get the same sound as on the album. He is a great guy and deserves all the success in the world. Not to menton he is also very talented.

LOL. Hercules sings that song when he’s a teenager, misunderstood and going to change his life. Much like “Part of Your World” and “Reflections” these are typical songs that occur about 20 minutes into the movie to establish the starting point of the action. There is a special term coined for these songs, but I forget it.

In any event, it’s an interesting choice for a teenager that needs to break from his parents.

And it’s also a sappy ballad which is in his wheelhouse. Perhaps, too in his wheelhouse. The coronation song will also be a sappy ballad so he’s going to have to go uptempo on his song choice.

BTW, the song was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, but lost out to “My Heart Will Go On” (so there are worse song choices out there).

How long before that American Idol exhibit supposed to open at DisneyWorld? Is this a tie in? Will Cookie have to sing one too? There aren’t too many male focused Disney musicals. Jungle Book (“Bare Necessities”?), Hercules (already taken), Robin Hood (“The Phony King of England”?), Tarzan (“You’ll Be in My Heart”?), The Lion King (“Circle of Life”? – been done), Pinocchio (“Got no Strings on Me”? – kind of seems more appropriate for another character). I wanna comment on the humbleness post, I didn’t get the point of the humbleness, first it was nervousness, then authentic and real, then shy to go on stage.

He’s a boy, he’s naturally gonna show this traits. I don’t have anything against the boy, but I’ve seen the AI marathon, and the more I realised that he really acts like a boy, I mean there were contestants around 18, like Josiah and the other kid who got it, but Archie acts like his 14 and 15, or even younger.
I guess this is because of upbringing, the other kids probably had been more independent than Archie.

But his training as performer is very evident, he goes automatic to “performing the way he does” once he starts singing. If you will notice from week 1 to top 3, it’s the same style, facial expression, intonations. I guess that’s what years of vocal training/coaching has done. Evolution as a performer somehow depended on what is taught to him and not much from what he experience I was expecting him to show some changes as the weeks progress, but watching the marathon, it’s constant from week 1 to top 3, the way he performs and sings. I also noticed that as he gets closer and closer to the finale, he became much and much more nervous, and affected. I guess that’s the boy in him as well. I hope he pulls through, maybe the producers noticed it as well, that’s why they “eased off the pressure.”

As for David Cook, in his early performances, it is obvious that he really is comfortable performing, it’s like his nature. Maybe because of his experience already, going out on his own, pursuing his dream. He is a bit “playful” at first and childish in his early numbers, but he gets more serious and have this air of professionalism as he nears the finale.

I wonder how will the Nokia Theatre, affect each of them and their performance levels, Who will be the amateur and the pro?

DA is a pro because of his training since 11, and star search.
DC is a pro because of his exposure in bands.

DA is amateur because of his age.
DA is amateur because this is his first time joining a TV contest.

I think the producers want DC to win. A “rocker” Idol will be good for the show. And I understand – even though I want Archie to win. The producers/judges have always manipulated the show in some ways. I accepted that years ago. Which is why I don’t put a lot of stock in who wins. Both will be find after AI is over.

Wow, maybe there was something wrong with my television, because I saw no “pimping” of Cook. His second song was panned. Randy hated everything he did. Really, I am baffled. Simon said he won the night. This is not unusual for Simon on final 3 night, in fact, it is what he almost always does.

I am a Cooktard for sure, but I think Archie will win. He has the little girls (read: my nieces. !@@#$) and the bluehairs. Do NOT underestimate the bluehairs. They will vote you into submission.

No. First and foremost, they are in it to make money. TPTB will not do anything to devalue their investment in DC during the finale. They know what he’s worth, and so do we, thanks to Itunes charting. He has already demonstrated that he will sell records so they are going to take very good care of him. No doubt about it.

Again the idea that Jason was treated horribly. As an objective viewer, I didn’t see anything bad except Paula gate. Jason had no complaints. He was relieved to go…..Jason was treated pretty darn well.

Well, here’s to David winning AI! I’m glad I’m not voting next week. I have forgotten how long that 4 hour voting period is.

And, I have to disagree. Jason was NOT treated very well. But, please, let’s not rehash this again. As I look back, Carly was pretty much thrown under the bus as well. Even though I’m not a fan of hers, she got some really bad critiques nearly every week from the judges.

There are so many Taylor fans voting for Cook You cannot just lump into a group. I have never liked rock music but when I heard Cook I was entranced. He is an emoter and makes you fall in love with him. I have loved everything he performs and to my amazement he changes undesirable songs and makes them into current hits. What more could the producers want than that. That is a guarantee of sales. Also there is such a buzz on all the international sites about Cook. He could be an international star. That is what America wants.

Interesting spoilers ,I am a former Taylor fan who happened to like Jason this year .I wished he could have made it to the finale probably with DC .Anyway I unsure if I am going to watch on Tuesday .The thing I hate it that this finale was basically called from the get go .I really wished Simon and company would refrain from stating favorites and the like on all these talk shows .

I am just floored with reading that David A was incredible singing Crazy. That song just doesn’t seem to fit him AT ALL. I think my boo fits him more than that! I guess I’m in the minority but I don’t like that song. When it came on the radio, it made me feel creepy. I just wonder if he sang it, it would go over the granny voters head. It just seems weird for him to be standing there asking ” If that makes me crazy?”

The Idol pool pick and the winner pick are two different things. Players had the ability to change their Idol winner pick until the Top 12 began. If you choose that pick correctly, you get 40 points. The weekly pool pick can be chosen up until the finale begins at 8pm ET. If you get that pick correct, you earn 20 points.

That’s what I originally thought, however the weekly pick is telling me to assign 40 points, so I’m confused.

I’m sorry to read that 2 from each season will be back. How can there possibly be enough time for this season’s idols? Maybe they’ll just do a group sing. :laugh_tb: I guess it’s okay that the top 5 will be teamed with someone but hope it’s better than Meatloaf with Kat or whoever was with Elliott that sang over him. It happens all the time. DangerMouse may not want his song as part of the auditions (especially since AI prefers to show the awful auditions…who wants there song to be used to mock people?), but a Finale is an entirely different thing. Presumably, the two best singers of the year are there and they might do the song proud.

Crazy is an interesting song. It sounds so funky in it’s original form, but it’s actually quite a chamaleon song. I’ve heard so many different versions and it seems to work in so many different styles (although, I must admit I haven’t heard the Paris Hilton cover). In it’s short life, it has been covered from everybody from Nelly Furtado to Ray LaMontagne to Prince to Beyonce to Billy Idol to Shawn Colvin.

That said, I don’t necessarily think that if Simon loved Archie doing “Crazy” in Hollywood, that doesn’t mean he’ll still love it. The finals at the Nokia are an entirely different vibe. It must be a nightmare for these guys to select just the right song. I wish they got to pick two of their songs so that they could show us more of who they are.

My TV Guide says the finale is 8:00-10:00 PM EDT. I think the voting is 4 hours — not the finale.

Never have you written truer words, Kirsten! It wasn’t until Season Five that I discovered female fans were unworthy and I’ve been trying to solve this puzzle ever since. As far as I know, my money is just as green as any male’s; I am more loyal than most young fans I know; and I am perfectly capable of mastering the ability to vote via multiple media methods. So why does no one want me as a fan?

(I’m saying this in jest, but I do think the attitude kind of stinks!)

Late to the discussion but I agree with Kirsten and Bobbi! Why aren’t my votes and my money just as good as a males? Why are only males 16 – 30 desired as a fan group? In my judgment, that’s actually a pretty fickle group. I really prefer not to be catagorized thank you very much!

And, how about a visit from the “So You Think You Can Dance” dancers? They’ve worked up a routine for the finale of “American Idol” and they’re going to show it to us first.

Ooooh yay! I figured the SYTYCD dancers would be back for the finale, since they were on IGB – and as promo for the new season of SYTYCD, which starts the next night.

I have to say, I loved the SYTYCD dancers on IGB, so I’m greatly looking forward to it – especially after I’ve been watching the reruns of last season’s shows on MTV today.

I don’t watch the show so have no interest in seeing the dancers again. They just annoyed me last time because they got more camera time than the singers.

Talking about Adam does bring up how expensive it is for the families of the idols. I remember Brooke’s husband saying that different ones including Syesha’s fiance stayed at their place. I’ve heard that in previous seasons, too. Carly’s and Michael’s families had very long and I’m sure expensive flights. I don’t have an opinion about David’s brother coming. I guess I feel it’s up to him and the family what’s best for them.

I was never into watching SYTYCD but today I was going thru the channels and saw the reruns of it were on, on MTV. WOW – now there you have some real talent. It looks like these guys and girls were allowed enough time to get a lot of practise in. Now, I cant wait to see Danny, Neil, Sabre and Lacy in the finale on AI too, on this show there were a 1/2 a dozen “moments” per show!!!. Please, though – I hope they dont take time away from my favorite Idols – they would be a nice accessory to them I think

I have nothing against these talented dancers, but this is a textbook example of how to alienate viewers, especially that younger demographic the show is losing in droves. It was bad enough when AI was merely a scouting tool for Sony/BMG. Now it is a scouting tool for Sony/BMG and cross-promotion for Nigel’s other conspicuous investment.

Regarding the spoilers, at this point in seasons past we would know a whole lot more about the finale, even if the info was couched in riddles. Maybe there’s no there there. Between the dancers and the “unfortunate” hometown viewing parties — nice understatement, MJ — and the self-congratulatory retrospectives and the completely unnecessary Idol chatter among the host and judges, that doesn’t leave much time for the actual contestants, does it?

I’m sure Chris Sligh is too low on TIIC’s totem pole but, ever since he blogged about his dinner with Jason on Friday, I’ve been craving a duet between the two of them.

I’d love to hear Archuleta sing “Crazy”. I mean I dont understand the hype about him…but if he could sing this song and move me….then I would finally understand why he deserves to be in the TOP 2 (meaning…based on talent not because of the craziness and passion Archuleta fans seem to be putting into voting plus the VOTEFORTHEWORST.COM contribution)

As for David Cook, I like his creativity and artistry. I was also impressed when he sang Music of the Night because it showed that he could actually sing.

I was just slightly disappointed over these past few weeks because he seemed to be building a cheesy rocker image. A la Randy,.,,,I know he could rock it out. I feel like he got vacuumed into becoming a rock balladeer when he could show more range

The biggest star in the world? In their distorted brains that could mean Whitney Houston … or most likely Miley Cyrus. Who else could fit that description in their minds … it used to be Michael Jackson b4 all the controversy. In Simon’s mind it’s Leona but she’s already been on, as well as Mariah. Britney might have been considered the brightest star in the universe once but now she’s the dimmest and the dullest. Who then?? Or maybe is the second coming of the already DEAD Elvis?

Just figured out the the biggest star coming to the finale may be Alicia Keyes but I was figuring she was the duet with Syesha. You would think the chosen one would get the biggest. Maybe Beyonce is making an appearance … with little or big D. haha!
