The David Archuleta fan board, Fans of David (a reliable source for scoop) is reporting that Jive has made a last minute decision to switch David’s next single from “Touch My Hand”–set to impact pop radio on 12/9–to   “A Little Too Not Over You”:

Jive decided last night to switch the next released single from Touch My Hand to A Little Too Not Over You.

David is currently working with Jeff and others to conceptualize the video for ALTNOY! The video for Touch My Hand was all planned out, so the team is very busy switching gears right now.

Are we deliriously happy?! YES!

Our lovable source said that he is very happy about this: ALTNOY is a happy song and yet still a nice contrast to Crush, and best of all, David co-wrote it.

“A Little Too Not Over You” debuted highest of the 4 songs that entered the charts this week from the new album, David Archuleta, released 11/11.

The song debuted on the digital songs chart at #79 according to USA Today’s Idol Chatter. It also debuted at #14 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.   The “bubbling under” chart tracks songs on the verge of entering the Hot 100.

Recently, the music survey site, Rate The Music.com sent out a survey to its subscribers asking them what they thought of “A Little Too Not Over You”–an indication that Jive has been thinking about the song as a possible single.

Nice for David if this is true–he has co-writing credits on the song.

I ´m really happy ALNTOY is one of my favorites songs in David ´s album…

Is not that TMH is bad, is catchy and sweat, is just that IMHO is more targeted to us his fans than the fact that he has to gaing new fans…ALNTOY has a more mature subject and his melody is really cool…

so I have oficially made peace with JIVE, we are friends once again…

  • wordnerdarchie

I must be in the minority, because I liked TMH better than ALNTOY. In fact, my favorite is actually YEDL. Love the rhythm in that song, but I’ll go along with whatever the majority of the fans like. I’m not the target demographic anyway. :annoyed_tb:

  • cruzceleste

lol Wornerdarchie… don ´t worry YEDL is really cool… but give it time…first Crush, now ALNTOY,by the third or fourth single David ´s image will be ready to do a video for YEDL… you know a little more mature…

    ETA.

Bets David is so happy that soon we will have a new blog…

    ETAA.
WNA,give him time and play ALNTOY, I bet your husband will fall in love with it ;D

  • frogcooke

lol WNA yedl is one of my top songs as well.. way way too catchy. Its my jam.
Im still a little iffy on the sudden change especially if they had TMH video planned out.. Still like the song lol But ya know.

  • wordnerdarchie

PS. I just played snippets of all three songs (that I mentioned above) for my husband and here is his reaction to them.

ALNTOY – didn’t like it all.
    TMH – was OK.
    YEDL – Really liked it.

So there you have it. My husband and I have the same musical tastes. I guess that’s a good thing for us on those long car rides across the country – we don’t have to fight over the radio dial. :lol_tb:

ETA: In all seriousness, Jive seems to be doing a terrific job, so whatever they decide with David and Jeff A. to release, I’m fine with.

  • frogcooke

hahaha WNA that works lol lol

oh btw.. supposedly David will be interviewed on Chum FM tomorrow, Nov. 21, between 2pm and 7pm

  • Duke

THANK YOU!- altho my first pick would be My Hands, ALTNOY would deff be my second pic. I just dont see TMH doing well on the radio- not catchy enough.

  • Anya

I am in a minority fer sure cos I think that ALTNOY is very similar to Crush. Also, it’s nothing like any of the Top 40 songs and not like a lot what my demo (20′s) listens to. Otoh, the Top 40 has a lot of, hmm, Lil’ Wayne kinda stuff so maybe a melodic song like ALTNOY will stand out. I like pop and also love David so I hope ALTNOY does well even though I can just hear Seacrest saying “not urban enough”. I wish, wish that Works For Me was released as a single sometime but that will never happen cos it’s a bonus track, right?

  • PCdoctor

If Jive did indeed change the single to ALTNOY, I’m happy for David. I wasn’t so sure of TMH, it’s an ok song, it’s better suited for live performances with all the girls swooning that he’s singing it to them.

  • E

I’m happy with ALNTOY, thanks Jive! TMH is ok too, but maybe 5th single, not when there’s YEDL and Barriers waiting in the wings. imo, all the tracks are worthy singles, including Works For Me probably, just make sure the stronger ones are released first, yeah I love the album.

  • dreamr

THANK YOU!- altho my first pick would be My Hands, ALTNOY would deff be my second pic. I just dont see TMH doing well on the radio- not catchy enough.

Yeahhhhh. I agree. I have to say that “My Hands” is the song that really stood out to me and got in my brain like CRAZY. It kinda reminds me of “With You” for some reason…not that that’s a bad thing. lol

Not really fond of “Touch My Hand”…in fact, it’s probably one of my least favorites on the album. The lyrics are just…ehhh.

I do like “A Little Not Too Over You,” though. And I can see it doing well. *nod*

  • hypertwink

Yay, my ears thanks you, Jive. I actually don’t like TMH. I realize from listening to my mixCD of The Davids that amongs other tracks, Not Over You was my fave…maybe more than Crush.

  • Lexus

I’m loving David’s album, but have to confess that YEDL was my very favorite from the beginning….and still is by a very long mile. I’m surprised reading the various boards that some have not warmed up to it. Personally I think it’s the song to turn the naysayers around.

ALTNOY is nice, but I prefer others (Let Me Go, Works for Me, Barriers) before it. That’s not a slight to David’s songwriting abilities because Falling absolutely blows me away. This kid has so much talent. If he’s this good now at only 17, I can’t wait to see how he develops over the next few years.

  • soundscene

ALTNOY is more rhythmic than Crush, that’s for sure. Crush is a blend of R&B vocals in the verses and a pop-rock chorus. ALTNOY is more R&B-pop. It’ll fit in fine, and I can see it doing better than Crush on CHR.

  • ozarka

See, Celeste? Didn’t I tell you so? I’m very happy for this change of heart on Jive’s part. I’m impressed that this record label actually does its homework (doing the surveys and stuff) and actually listens to the fans, as well as the sales. TMH is an uber catchy song and very solid. I would have been happy with it as the next single, but ALTNOY is a smarter choice, imo. The fact that Archie cowrote it is a big plus. They can capitalize on that when promoting it. Go Jive! Go Archie!

  • houstonrufus

I think this is a very smart move. As much as I love TMH, I was feeling nervous about it. The chorus is pure pop genius. But the verse is, well, not. I can see that song coming on the radio and listeners changing the channel before the song gets to the chorus. David still faces a lot of skepticism. You gotta hook the ear fast. And ALTNOY does that. It’s the perfect choice.

I’ll also admit to becoming a big fan of YEDL. Initially, the song threw me. But it is addictive. And listening to David step ever so slightly out of his comfort zone is fun. I think it would surprise people. I wouldn’t mind seeing it released as a 4th single.

  • Carlaria

    Yes!!!!!!!!!

    It’s a hap-hap-happy day!

  • cruzceleste

lol… yeah Ozarka you were right all this time… Go Jive, Go Archie…

  • Carlaria

A popular soap opera uses it on the show, thousands of people download it (more than the next projected single), iTunes selects it as the number 2 song in their Best of the Week section…what more did Jive need as proof it should be the next single?

Good to know that Jive is not inflexible!

  • Aladdin88

I’m very happy about this! I’m in the minority, but I never saw the appeal in TMH. I literally cringed when I heard it would be the second single. ALTNOY, on the other hand, is one of my favorite songs from David’s album. I can see the song getting a lot of airplay and it has already proven to be a nice little seller on iTunes. Maybe Jive knows what they’re doing after all. :)

  • cruzceleste

Carlaria where you can see the best of the week..????

  • JudyOhio

Glad that they changed it to ALTNOY. As much as I like TMH, it seems it would appeal more to the females. Can’t imagine guys would like it, given the lyrics to a gal in an audience. Therefore, limiting.

I was at Fans of David last night and listened to “Falling” along with reading the lyrics to it that they provide at the same place where you listen. That grips your heart and is sad but has a positive last verse. It’s pretty deep, and I found myself liking it quite a bit.

I, too, love YEDL. It stands out as “different” if you will.

Works for Me is catchy as all get out. Hope it will get some airplay eventually.

I’m wondering how many single releases he will be allowed, It seems DA was saying something in an interview to the effect that they will release the first and second and that will decide if there will be a third. Hope I didn’t missunderstand that, but that’s what he seemed to say.

  • ozarka

    duplicate

  • ozarka

Actually, what I heard was that they’ll release a second single (Crush was the first) then a third. Depending on how well those do, then they’ll maybe release a fourth.

  • frogcooke

Evidently David was at one of Carrie’s concerts, from idf(from carriefans):

Carrie Put on a GREAT show and she looked amazing and david archuleta was at the concert to like 5 rows behind me
(salt lake city, so I guess he’s in utah then lol)

  • soundscene

^^ Hope he got backstage to talk with Carrie. I guess concert-going is his new favorite past time.

  • RV65

It would be cool to see Mr. David Archuleta sing Your Eyes Dont Lie live.
Works For Me fits in my playlist that includes Mraz Mayer and Legend Music.
Waiting for Yesterday has become a favorite…
Somebody Out There is becoming a favorite
You Can and To Be With You…….do I have to say anything more……..
Barriers, My Hands………ALTNOY, Running, My Hands, Dont Let Go…Love all of em.
    Desperate, TMH…getting there.

Nice album to have on long trips………or while doing just about anything.

    GO LETTUCE BOY!

  • LK08

For what it’s worth- I have always loved ALTNOY and “My hands”. YEDL has really grown on me. “Touch My Hands” is great and I could see it as doing well with younger kids and of course fans, but I think ALTNOY will do well with all different ages, etc.

When I told my 20 year old daughter, who is in college, that they had changed the single to ALTNOY, she told me that ALTNOY and “My Hands” are her favorites and that she often puts both of them on repeat and listens to them over and over.

  • qbaloo

Gotta agree with Houstonrufus here. I really love TMH, but you need to get to the chorus and latter half of the song for it to hook you in. And I think the song seriously grows on you after multiple listens, which I suspect most radio listeners wouldn’t get the chance to or take the time to do. The lyrics also don’t help.

I’m in the happy camp with those who are thrilled to pieces that ALTNOY will be the second single. It’s different enough from Crush and it will still appeal to a broad audience. I couldn’t help but feel that TMH would have been like taking a step backwards after such a strong start with Crush. Sort of like going back to the Idol season and the tour and singing on the big stage. I think the timing for TMH as a single will be better once David has been on his own tour so that the song would be associated with him as a solo artist.

Also..thinking wayyyy ahead here, but there’s a chance that David might be asked to perform on the AI Season 8 show. The timing could work out well for him to perform his second single, and ALTNOY would really show the AI audience (and the judges) a very different David. TMH, not so much.

  • E

LOL I was wondering which concert David is going this week haha! Looking forward to his next blog, he has lots to talk about :D

  • E

Glad there are many YEDL fans here, that needs to be a single.

  • Carlaria

Cruzceleste, It was #2 on best of the week for the week of Nov 11. It changed this week. I think that was part of the reason sales were so good for ALTNOY last week.

  • Caffiend

Barriers is one of my favorite songs on the album. I think it could be huge.

  • JudyOhio

Heck…….ya know what……..they’re all good. What can I say.

    Great debut work Archie!

  • hardkandy

I think Barriers should be the next single. Or be a single at least. I absolutely love that song and I think it’ll do fantastic on the radio!

  • primeminister

THANK YOU, JIVE! I’m 19 and found Touch My Hands boring. Crush, My Hands, and ALTNOY (and Works for Me) are the only ones I listen to regularly.

“My Hands” was my pick for the next single, but ALTNOY would have been my second choice, so I shall breathe a sigh of relief. :)

  • spencer

Love, love, love Barriers!! Hope it will come out as a single. I do like TMH and can definitely see David singing it at a concert but when I tried to imagine it as a radio play…it didn’t quite work. Think ALTNOY will be great as will all the songs on the CD. I hope My Hands will also come out as a single…. sorry, rambling haha

  • mrcritic1980

Good move. “A Little Too Not Over You” is my favorite song in the album and probably my 2nd favorite song from an Idol (first still being “Since U Been Gone”)

  • Virgii5

ALTNOY is a great 2nd song choice. The others they ought to release are (in no particular order) My Hands, Barriers, and possibly You Can. TMH is a good song, catchy, etc.. but I have never considered it good enough for radio and can’t hear it on any of my local stations, it doesn’t fit in anywhere. So I’m breathing a sigh of relief over this news.

  • abbysee

What I like is that there isn’t a consensus as to the next best choice. It bodes well that many people think different songs are good. I love YEDL, I think that is a song that could cross over, if Jive wanted, into urban territory. I also love Barriers….and it took me about 4 days to fall hard. None of them are my favorites though. Works For Me is at least for now. I have played that song so many damn times it’s insane. It’s just a great kinda eff you song, well at least eff you according to David Archuleta! Haha.

  • E

imo songs that should be released as singles that would show the different sounds of David are YEDL, Barriers, Don’t Let Go. Works For Me too, though not a single from this album since it’s a bonus track. ALNTOY is good but not the strongest single, that would be YEDL and Barriers imo. and somewhere down down the line, Desperate.

  • shell29

Jive made the right decision in my opinion. I have always been skeptical about TMH as a single (2nd, 3rd or otherwise), so I’m glad they made the change to ALTNOY. I think it’s a much better song with more crossover potential. I think it will do well for Archie.

I think Barriers should be the next single. Or be a single at least.

Barriers is the song that I really wanted to be the next single, but as long as they do release it at some point, it’s OK. I really think Barriers could be Archie’s “No Air”-the 30 second preview clip doesn’t do that song justice.

  • ggdoorsfan

I like, nee LOVE ALTNOY as the next single because David co-wrote it, which should benefit him in 2 big ways – gives him artistic cred for songwriting, and he stands to make more $$$$$ for the royalties he will receive with each purchaseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

IMO, Jive has always had their eyes on crossover appeal as one long term strategy for Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ After listening to the album numerous times, 2 tracks always stood out to me as potential crossover market MONSTAHà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢S for Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ ALTNOY, and Your Eyes Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Lieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I see and hear H-U-G-E potential for both of these songs to be played not only on Top 40 stations, but on Urban and R&b stations as wellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ WIN WIN for the artist, the label, and the fansà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. and with ALTNOY selling pretty darn well on Itunes for an unreleased single – ahead of TMH, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure this definitely factored into the equation to go w/ALTNOY.

My respect for Jive has increased in their willingness to make the switch – shows that they are paying attention where it counts, and are willing to be flexible enough to adjust their strategy, when need be, to best serve Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    ALTNOY FTW!

  • Jabkmc

    Abbysee – ”

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just a great kinda eff you song, well at least eff you according to David Archuleta!

For real! Only David Archuleta could be so nice about telling people to F**k off. haha!

  • RV65

“Works For Me is at least for now. I have played that song so many damn times ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s insane. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just a great kinda eff you song, well at least eff you according to David Archuleta! Haha.

Im in dense mode at the moment so it took me quite some time to get this…LOL….that’s a good way of summing up that song’s message. I do like Works for Me a lot.

  • Deejay

Sounds like a good move to me. I think ALTNOY will have more mainstream appeal.

  • cruzceleste

For real! Only David Archuleta could be so nice about telling people to F**k off. haha!

Certanly, I dreaming with day that he can sing that song live to Simon Cowell…

Of the songs that I thing should be a single are Barriers, My Hands and YEDL… of the thtree Barriers will be my pickfor the thord single, is a really cool beat and the message is great, I already thinking in the video for that song…

I love the bonus track Waiting for Yesterday, Works for Me and Let Me Go (I can see a scene from Gossip Girl using that song) and Somebody Out There are right now the most played song in my iPod (I still can ´t believe this songs didn ´t make it to the original album)

    Thank you Carlaria…

  • JudyOhio

    Doesn’t anybody like “Falling”?

  • MJack

Delighted with the switch. That’s pretty much it.

  • E

Judy, I love Falling, but it’s heavy stuff, can’t listen often to it :D

  • abbysee

Judy I love Falling too, it’s beautifully written and sung. I see it featured during a slowing down the pace concert song. It shows more of David’s depth.

Cruzceleste, I love your list of favorites, and the idea that he should sing Works for Me for Simon, lol.

  • augiedog

Hey, don’t post often, but I’ll add in that I also like the switch. TMH has a kind of plodding back beat that I don’t love. ALTNOY has a more radio friendly sound like Crush, but with a little more pep. Barriers is one of my favorite songs. I really love everything about it. I also really love Works For Me. I love the words to that song and it has a crossover sound that could hopefully be played on a not strictly pop station. I have always preferred independent radio stations, but have been subjecting myself to the pop station in hopes of hearing Crush. My 13 yr old daughter likes the switch to the pop station, but I sometimes have to change the station and have a conversation with her about the raunchy stuff they play. For instance, that awful song that sings about being butt naked banging on the bathroom floor all to a catchy beat. It makes my poor ears bleed.

  • frogcooke

David is going to Toronto on the 9th. for Chum-fm’s Christmas Wish Concert (morning concert) Tickets I think are on sale today at 10am for $10

  • cruzceleste

^Ok someone please refresh his scheaduale for December because now I think is crazy….

    Thank you Frog

  • frogcooke

Evidently Theo tams and some other person will be there too but they just adversting david on the station lol

  • Anya

I don’t post here often but love reading your discussions. Always learn something new about the record business.

Maybe they think it’s too early for Barriers in a progression from a crush to breaking up. Being jelaous about seeing your boo with someone else is the next logical step. Bariers has a phrase about lying here aka in a horizontal position am guessing which may be too racey, lol, given the skittles vibe of the album. Personally, I don’t think the album is skittles at all and is relatable for many age groups. I hope they release Barriers at some point.

  • cruzceleste

Bariers has a phrase about lying here aka in a horizontal position am guessing which may be too racey

About that line I don ´t think the “lying here” is about what we all, dirty minds, are thinking about… Is Skittles,I mean David we are talking about, surely neither Jeff nor David will have record the song is they have found something R rated in it..

Many of his fans have being creating escenarios for that line to work, I picture them lying in the grass looking on to the stars… ;D

  • leome

I think it’s a great decision, if anything because I’d rather catch this one on radio.
It can do even better than Crush. Good move!

  • Skylark

Brilliant decision. Back to back smash hits.
    Go David!!

  • JudyOhio

I hope they change the little snippet of ALTNOY they have on itunes to listen to. It doesn’t grab attention imo. Would rather they choose another part of the song for the sample before it releases.
