Sorry to rant, but it’s a touchy subject for me.

To be clear’ ¦ I have no problem with people who eat meat. Or hunters who eat their catch. I do have a problem with hunting for sport, because it serves no useful purpose. And yes, there are people who hunt (and I’m not talking specifically about deer) just to kill. I’ve known some of them.

She hunts for sport but she also eats what she kills — at least that’s what she’s said in the past. She once talked about the fact that the fee for a hunting license + bagging a deer = much less $$ spent on meat for her family than buying all that stuff from the grocery store. She never said that her family was starving or anything, but clearly they made that economic calculus and they were obviously eating what they killed so I can’t say I’d get too judgery about the whole thing. Well anyway, in my mind, that makes a difference.

I think there are laws in many states that sort of ‘guarantee’  the most humane way to kill livestock)

If laws like that exist, they aren’t always followed. I don’t want to get into it here, but the stuff that goes on in slaughterhouses can be pretty grim.

Didn’t watch the clip. I’m a vegetarian, and I’ve been held at gun point myself. Sorry, can’t see guns and killing as something to have fun with. But, this is America, everyone gets to make that decision for themselves.

And ahh…this clip reminded me of America’s love for guns…remembered Bowling Columbine…

To not eat meat is a choice but let’s remember that on the food chain we ARE carnivors (shape of our teeth proves it)

..think it would be more precise to say that we are omnivors (can it everything)

Let’s put it more precisely, our bodies need certain amino acids, among other nutrients and if we don’t get them, bad things happen, death, diseases, weaknesesses, whatever. We do not need meat and yes by our teeth and digestion, we are omnivores. So we don’t need to consume any meat at any given time ever, shape of our teeth aside because we also have many more grain/veggie ones. As long as we maintain the nutrient levels regarding complete amino acids, among many others we need, we’ll fine and don’t need to kill and eat Bambi, Babe or Roo or whomever, either. Sorry, but the whole ‘we’re carnivores,’ argument does nothing for me, because we’re not. Cats are much more so “obligate carnivores,” than we, or dogs for that matter, will ever be. So maybe Kristy is actually speaking to the TV watching, armed cat, populace? In which case I’m all for her helpful hints on killing deer! And meow meow, pass me another round, meow meow, while I make this shot!

Also, I remember reading that there are more car/deer collisions during hunting season because the deer are driven out of their natural habitats. I think it was an insurance study.
