82-year-old America’s Got Talent contestant, John Hetlinger lived out his dream on Friday performing Drowning Pool’s “Bodies” live onstage with the band at Chicago’s Open Air festival.

You may remember the Navy veteran and former aerospace engineer from his AGT audition. Proclaiming himself to be a karaoke fan, the crowd was expecting the senior citizen to croon a little Frank Sinatra, perhaps. Instead, much to the shock of the audience and judges Howie Mandel, Mel B., Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell, Mr. Hetlinger launched into a screamo performance of Drowning Pool’s 2001 single “Bodies.”

Needless to say, Hetlinger didn’t advance to the next round, but his audition has had more than 8 million views. I imagine the band is grateful for the surprise exposure, so why not invite the man on stage for a performance?

Drowning Pool guitarist C.J. Pierce talked to Loudwire about Hetlinger’s performance. “I am so entertained by it. It’s awesome to just see an 82-year-old man get out there and just belt out some metal — whether it was our song or any song, it was just killer to see him do that.”

Apparently, Hetlinger was set to perform with Drowning Pool again when they returned to Clink Fest on Saturday.
