American Idol Season 8 CD Released June 30

Two versions of “No Boundaries” on the same CD is just a crime against humanity.

Like you, MJ, the only choice I have major issues with is Kris’. “Heartless” is selling just as well as “No Boundaries” without radio play and I personally think “Falling Slowly” is the most gorgeous studio recording out there. SWHFTM falls a little flat compared to the live performance (in fact, I’d say it’s my least favorite studio recording from Kris).

I would’ve picked Falling Slowly for Kris too, probably my fave Idol studio cut *ever*. Instead they picked the one that even Kris himself disliked the studio version of? :/

Wonder if Heartless and Falling Slowly may end up on Kris album?

Well, another album I won’t get ’cause, on principle, I won’t walk into a Wal Mart store for nobody, no how, no way. We all live by some meaningless little code…and ANTI WAL Mart happens to be mine!

As I have stated many times, I will buy anything by Adam but I already bought all the iTunes. I bought a few of the others as well. Not interested in this at all. Will just wait (impatiently) now for Adam’s cd!

Can you say “redundant”? I guess it’ll move units selling to peeps who are stuck in the CD era and haven’t moved into the wonderful world of digital music yet. Or, you know, those who always figure they’d get around to downloading a song on iTunes, only to find they waited too long.

The only thing about that tracklist I’d like to comment on – Really, putting Adam’s version of No Boundaries? I figured they got it on iTunes because they had it recorded already and didn’t care as much this year about making it distinctly the WINNER’s song, maybe becuase they wanted the extra royalties for Kare, or because they see Adam as a co-winner. But to put it on the compilation CD too? They do remember there’s a reason it’s called a “coronation” song, right? Nevermind.

There is no way I’d buy this. I also agree, out of all the great songs Kris sang, why that one? He was certainly good on it, but it’s not what I’d choose. ‘Falling Slowly’ was gorgeous.

And TWO renditions of No Boundaries? Re-record it as a duet. It will still suck, but at least be something new that sucks.

IMO, 19 should have put different songs on the albums for, Danny, Kris and Lil. For Danny I think they should have put either “Come Rain or Come Shine” or “PYT” on the album. For Kris “Heartless” “Falling Slowly”, or “Ain’t No Sunshine”. And for Lil “Be Without You”.

IMO, everyone else’s song choices are fine.(Sans the double dose of “No Boundaries) “Always on My Mind” was one of Anoop’s best performances IMO, and I really enjoyed Matt’s “Human Nature”. I think that performance of Matt’s is underrated.

I am glad that it looks like the Idol contestants will make some extra money off of these CD’s sales. That’s a plus for them.

The problem with Lil is that “Be Without You” was during the semis so she never recorded it in the studio, I believe. I don’t have any of her studio recordings, so I’m not positive how “I Surrender” stacks up, but my favorite live performance from her was definitely “The Way You Make Me Feel”.

I think they should release the Season 7 version. Billie Jean and Imagine could sell them a helluva lot of units!!!

And I actually like Kris’s SWHFTM. The backing track is awful, but the vocals are awesome.

I even will buy Adam  «new/old CD » that that crap company is planning to release with songs that Adam recorded in 2007/2008, if Adam’s get any cash from it and Pop Goes The Camera, I Just Love You, Crawl thu Fire and/or Kiss and Tell are on it!

I probably will also buy Allison and maybe Kris, but the rest sorry its a no go for me, rather buy diverse people from iTunes and mix my own CDs.

LOL So true. When I saw that I was like, really? They did not have to start a CD and end it with “No Boundaries” — that’s just wrong.

This is kind of weird. I own the songs I want from there. I guess it is for the less computer savvy types.

Okay, then they could have used “The Way You Make Me Feel”. I didn’t really like that performance that much, but IMO, that’s her second best performance, after “Be Without You.”

Good on any of the Idols who make money off this. I’ve already downloaded Adam’s (all of) and Kris’s singles (including Adam’s studio version of NB, which–shock–pretty much sucks), along with Slow Ride (Adam/Allison), so I have no interest in this, anyway. But two NB’s is two NB’s too many, and Falling Slowly or Ain’t No Sunshine (along with Heartless) were far better Kris performances than SWHFTM. I mean, it was okay, but…Georgia would have been a better choice for Matt, IMO, and I think Allison’s is okay (I personally loved Cry Baby or Alone better). The rest, not particularly interested in.

Did the S5 album do well? That was the first season I watched consistently but had on interest in buying the album.

Oh, and too bad Alexis didn’t get to be on the album but Sarver did. Poor Alexis. Again.

I hate the studio version of SWHFTM. The live version was great and like most of the studio recordings, it managed to suck the soul out of the live performance. See also; If I Can’t Have You by Lambert, Adam.

Kris’s best studio songs were Falling Slowly and Aint No Sunshine. I didn’t like his studio verison of Heartless as much as his live performance, though I know it’s very popular. I just really liked his live performance so much more.

I really wish they hadn’t chosen Mad World for Adam. I mean, overkill much? At least it’s one of his better studio versions of his songs. Though I think Feeling Good is actually the best studio of his, and of anyone’s actually, and I wish they had chosen it. That or One. I really didn’t like his live version of it, my least favourite performance of the series* from him, but the studio version rocks. It’s what I wish he had done on the actual show. Oh Adam, bad choice.

*No Boundaries doesn’t count, the song sucks and both Adam and Kris sucked singing it. I don’t blame them for it.

I think they should continue to release a physical compilation cd every year. I have a few from the past. Season 5 was my fave. Season two did an xmas one, with songs from Kelly, and Tamyra included I think. I don’t do xmas cds, so I passed on that one. I also purchase season three as well. I believe Bo’s Vehicle was on that, but since I use it as a coaster…..well it’s a nice momento for idol nuts.

Thankfully I downloaded all the songs I really loved, and since only one of them is on that CD, I sure won’t be buying it!

Thruthiness: I agree  «One » from Adam is the most radio friendly, cross charts and beautiful recording as it even could even be a hit on the  «Country » radio stations (My ex was a country freak and some old country songs had the same beat. I am talking about 8 tracks tapes, that’s how old I am, and some sounded just like it!

It looks like Access Hollywood filmed the tour rehearsal and will be airing at least part of it. Dont’t know when, though…

It’s a disgrace that 19 still can’t get things right. 2 version’s of the winner’s single. Ridiculous. Adam has much better, interesting studio versions that weren’t so overdone as Mad World. Why pick the one song pretty much most people would have already?

And the pictures?? They look like High School portraits. Adam doesn’t look anything like himself. What’s going on with Anoop? I mean, if they were going to do a cd, a little creativity wouldn’t have been so hard.

somewhat off topic but we were talking about singles and albums and stuff, and I just read at Hits Daily Double that the record labels make 90 cents from a $1.29 download? Now methinks many downloads are actually around 99 cents but the bottomline is the labels make massive amounts on digital download and HDD poses the question, how much does massive single sales by an artist affect their album sales, and of course album sales in 2009 are clearly not not what they once were…..not even 2008 sales levels.

I was just shocked that the label’s cut was that huge…….doesn’t leave much for anyone else does it?

Well here is what I think. Kris’s version of No Boundaries should have been last on the album. They are still pimping Adam even in the retread album of season 8. I really like Kris’s version of this dreadful song in the studio version which I assume this one will be and I didn’t care for Adam’s take on it. To be honest other than Allison, Adam, and of course Kris, I wasn’t all that impressed with anyone else this season, maybe Matt and Anoop a little bit and I liked Danny’s voice, just could figure out who he was as an artist. But, Michael, Scott, Lil, Megan, all are completely forgettable to me. I would actually prefer a top 5 album to a top 10.

I love the song they selected from Allison. It was one of two that I downloaded of hers and think she did a really great job on it, although I also loved Cry. I would rather have had Tracks of My Tears for Adam, but Mad World is good, too. It’s funny that they have a couple of songs from the country week. I do like Anoop’s song, but there were others I liked better and to be honest I don’t remember that song from Matt. Kris’s She Works Hard for the Money had a really cool vibe to it. I liked the kind of reggae sound, but would have preferred Man in the Mirror, Heartless, Falling Slowly, amd the Garth Brooks song or any of the ballads that he sang to this one. I even liked Come Together better than this one, but to be honest, I like everything he sang all season so it is all good. I do agree with Randy Travis, though. He is a balladeer. Actually, I am happy they are putting this CD out at all. I kept looking for one from season 7. Over all, I think season 7 had the best 9 of top 10 ever. This season there were a few singers that didn’t make top 10 that I would rather hear on the CD than some of the ones who did make it. Ricky Braddy comes to mind.

I’ve already downloaded all that I wanted to get. However if a person had a few extra bucks and was going to the concert, it would be neat to get the cd cover autographed. I bet that is where they will make a lot of their sales. Nice for the idols to make a few extra bucks from the proceeds.

johanna ITA about the country thing. That’s what struck me the first time I heard it, though I liked it despite that. Not a huge country fan, sorry, but I liked the country-ish feel that the song had. And it was just really…pretty, all the way through. Again, I wish Adam had done that in his live performance and hadn’t gone all crazy in the middle. Oh well, bygones.

Jolene. I completely agree with you. It is disrespectful to Kris Allen of AI, once again, to put Adam’s version of the coronation song on the compilation tape. I’m sure Adam would have been fine having a song he actually sounded good on appear on the CD rather than this awful version of this awful song, and then to put it last on the CD is insulting to the winner, who in case AI has forgotten was Kris Allen. I don’t remember ever hearing Archie’s version of magic rainbow, as it should be.

I am glad they chose Matt’s “Human Nature”. All of his recordings are great but this studio version is amazing. Also I think his live performance was underrated, I think he was so relaxed, cool and smooth that night.

I am still waiting for Matt to get signed. Oh well. I hope after the tour he gets some offers.

Call me crazy but I LOVE Adam’s version of No Boundaries. It sounds great!

While the live version of “She Works Hard for the Money” was incredible, the studio version pales in comparison. It is nice, and Kris sounds great, but it is just not as special as what Kris did on the show. Maybe it was too late to include Heartless, but there were better choices than SWHFTM, I think they made their choice based on the response that people had to the live version.

There are some other iffy choices, like Gokey’s song. His best performance was Come Rain or Come Shine, the others were pretty mediocre, but again, maybe there was an issue of time, and they didn’t have the chance to include that track.

Given that the show ended almost a month ago, and that some of these tracks aren’t that great, I think this cd will be a hard sell.

Lastly, I’m just glad that Kris Allen is classier than the people at 19E/R. As Adam said, more people need to be like Kris.

Also I think his live performance was underrated, I think he was so relaxed, cool and smooth that night.

IMO that performance of Matt was underrated, and it was my favorite performance of MJ night. I also liked Danny’s PYT, and I thought that Alexis and Allison did a good job that night as well.

I’m so glad that Matt’s Human Nature is on there. Kris was my boy, but that is probably my favorite recording that I bought this season. I also really liked the Part Time Lover recording.

I love love loved Kris’s live performance of She Works Hard For the Money, but I HATE the studio version. I ended up buying the video because I wanted that version. His arrangement is what made it great and they completely scrapped that for the studio. Same with Heartless, I like the studio ok, but I like the live version better. My favorite studio recordings from Kris are To Make You Feel My Love, Falling Slowly, Come Together, and… All She Wants To Do Is Dance (ducks and covers head)… Seriously, I think I’m the ONLY person who likes it.

I think most of the other picks were right on, except I would’ve picked Cry Baby or Give In To Me for Allison. I never bought I Can’t Make You Love Me though, so I can’t say for sure.

Love the idea of a season 7 cd. Agree with Imagine and Billie Jean for the Davids. Jason’s Hallelujah, Michael’s It’s All Wrong, Chikeze’s She’ A Woman. Those are the “moments” that pop up first. Probably Blackbird for Carly and Every Breath You Take for Brooke. Not sure about Syesha – Long Time Coming or One Rock and Roll Too Many maybe. Ramielle and Kristy Lee should just give up their spots for an extra song by one of the guys.

ITA on S7. Aside from Kristy Lee and Ramiele, I liked every other singer (okay, KL did sing country decently), and wish I had downloaded their songs (especially those by Cook and MJ, if MJ’s were even available). As much as I love Kradison and Matt, I will take last year’s Top 10 over this year’s Top 10, if we are looking at the group as a whole. Except for Adam. I will always take Adam. And my Trifecta: Adam, Cook, and Kris, who, not coincidentally, will be part of the GMA music series in August.

Seems like just a weird selection of tracks. I could pick better performances by pretty much all of the Idols than the ones they chose here. I wonder though if in Kris’ case he is thinking of putting “Heartless”, “Ain’t No Sunshine” and/or “Falling Slowly” on his own debut album (probably not all 3) — so he wouldn’t want them on this compilation thingy?

Not sure where to put this. I think Lyndsey Parker, who’s doing the AI video interviews for Yahoo Music, has gotten lots of tweets about how she didn’t like Kris during the season. Check her recent tweets out (and it wasn’t even Kris fangirl me who was making Ms. Parker so defensive — since I don’t actually HAVE a twitter account – LOL!). Anyway, glad to see she actually liked Kris during the year and he’s won her over even more after their interview…(KRADAM RULES, people)

That’s certainly a distinct possibility, however I’m hoping for an album of all new songs, and not just because I already have Kris’ Season 8 Favorite Performances compilation.

I thought that Kris said in one of his interviews that he hadn’t been too happy with how the studio version of “She Works Hard” came out, but I could be mixed up about that. But the kids didn’t get any input I guess. My favorite studio version from Kris is “To Make You Feel My Love” . It was funny, I didn’t even remember him singing it when I did my first round of buying so I skipped right over it. When I did another round, I gave it another listen and just fell in love with it.

I wish they would have used “Feeling Good” for Adam. For Danny, I really like his studio version of “Stand by Me”, I know the judges didn’t like the arrangement but I like it a lot. For Matt I like Human Nature well enough but I like “Let’s Get it On” and “My Funny Valentine” better. The other choices seem fine to me. Too bad about the No Boundaries thing.

That’s the photo that they have on his official website. Isn’t it horrible? He is such a beautiful young man, he doesn’t need to be photoshopped to look like some teen idol vampire (I assumed that they were going for the Twilight look).

Oh good…I thought it was just me who hated that picture of Adam. Who the hell had final decision on that one? He looks like a black Q-tip.

Nope, I remember someone had reported that Kris was disappointed w/the studio version of SWHFTM cause they screwed up the instrumentation. It was sort of a secondhand report tho, so I suppose grain of salt.

I don’t know how I feel about putting Idol covers on debut albums, I’d rather have a new song instead of a retread, and that post-Idol careers should be about “cutting the cord” from the show as quickly as possible — doubly so in Kris’ case.

Just think though, maybe now Kris wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have to have No Boundaries on his debut CD, cuz ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s already on this one!

I think the only reason anyone will buy this CD is to just have the idols sign it on tour as a souvenir … and then sell it on e-bay years and years from now when Adam/Kris/Allison are superstars

It appears that many Idol fans do not care for No Boundaries regardless of who sings the song. I’m an avid Adam Lambert fan and I purchased all of his songs and videos from iTunes, but I will admit that No Boundaries was the last song that I downloaded. I am like Simon, hurricanes and mountains should not be included in the same song..gee! Adam did a great job with NB in the studio version. It’s one of those songs that has to grow on you.
I went to YouTube and checked out the studio version of the other contestantà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s songs. I will give a shout out to Lil Rounds in her studio version of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I Surrender,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  she killed that song. It was the bomb! Next to my surprise was Scott Macintyreà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s copy of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Just the Way You Are.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  I then could not decide who I like best, Allison or Anoop it was a tie.
This American Idol season 8 CD is more of an easy listening laid back type album and I probably would buy it. IMO, season 8 was the best season ever of American Idol and I think it would be worth the money to have it in my collection.

OMG ! 19E should be ashamed of themselves. Who the hell is the winner of American Idol 2009? They never cease to amaze me with their constant trying to make A co-winner scenario. They should show a little bit of respect to Kris. For God’s sake he didn’t just walk into the finale and grab the prize? He worked his ass off throughout the whole competition to win the title. Throughout the whole season, thry made the other contestants feel like they were just there to make up the number by declaring a winner from the word go. America proved to them that they cannot shove any thing into our throats and they will still not learn. I will ask this question, if Adam were the winner, will they create a co-winner scenario, will they put Kris’ version of No Boundries on itunes and this CD?

I am indeed very disappointed in 19E. They made a lot of people believe there was an ordained winner and because of that, especially the judges. Due to this a lot of people cannt even come to terms that Kris won. He himself didn’t expect to be named the winner looking at the way he was underrated all the time, poor boy ,he couldn’t even enjoy his victry moment. How could he, when all he was told all the time was howhe lacked star power, how puppyish he was etc. Shame unto 19e, Simon, Paula, and Kara. Randy was the best among them. At least he was impartial.Kris will suprise them again. Shame ! ! !

whoever designed the cover of this cd should be shot. I know I’m a dork when it comes to pictures but this is awful. If it isn’t a rule it should be……you don’t put someone facing outward like Megan at the end of the line. She is staring out into the distance wondering where her voice is. When you only have three girls, you spread them out. I’m offering my assistance for next years cd. lol.

Okay, why does the usually very good looking Adam and Anoop look so shot? Michael and Scott look kinda dopey but at least if (when) Megan’s music career does not work out, she can be a model! She looks the prettiest here.

As a kris fan, I don’t mind that both him and adam gets 2 songs (even though that has not happened before) since they’re probably trying to milk the crappy No Boundaries. The only thing that bothers me about this is that the put She Works Hard for the Money! The live version was amazing but recording was not his best.. especially since a lot of his other recordings were pretty awesome. Also, why put Mad World in there? I really think everyone has that 1 Adam song! hehe

I guess I’m into the teen idol vampire look because I honestly love that picture of Adam But damn did I crack up when someone said Anoop looks like he’s listening to No Boundaries haha. (Although as much as I hate to admit it that song *Adam’s version* has gotten stuck in my head). Other then Anoop though, I think everyone looks decent, but it is kinda brady bunch-ish. Not sure if that’s always how they do it though as I’ve never watched AI before this season or bought any of the records. Not crazy about the track list though, too laid back for my taste.

This is pretty interesting Adam performing I Can’t Make You Love Me” pre-Idol, but not by much so it appears.

There is absolutely nothing worth buying that CD for, thank God for iTunes.

Jolene: I guess ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll move units selling to peeps who are stuck in the CD era and havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t moved into the wonderful world of digital music yet.

I would think it would appeal to the more casual fans who weren’t interested enough to download stuff during the season but are interested in a sampler. Hey, the “Now series” sells like wildfire, so I guess people like compilations.

Also, in defense of CDs, the sound quality is better. I still buy CDs, not because I’m “stuck in the CD era” but because of the sound quality. I also buy downloads, but only individual tracks when I’m just not interested in the entire album or when the download version of the album is priced extremely cheaply. Fortunately, the quality issue is diminishing with iTunes’ move to the iTunes Plus format (which doubles the sample rate). Hopefully things will progress to CD-quality downloads within several years.

No–I liked it too! The staging of the performance was the problem, but even then, I thought Kris sounded great and that the arrangement was inventive (it was good that he didn’t just stick with the synthesizer sound). Sadly underrated, as usual (same with “Come Together,” as JohnM said).

Who’s the winner this season? Kris? Oh, I’m sorry, I got confused thinking it was the guy who sings last on this record. *rolls eyes*

I have absolutely nothing against Adam, even tho I don’t like his voice. I do think he’s really talented and deserves all the praise he’s getting. But I am tired to see him pimped over the winner, Kris. Really tired. I don’t hold him against Adam, it’s not his fault… But seriously, TPTB should stop this pretending Adam won.

As for the cd itself, meh. I won’t buy it as I bought the downloads I wanted throughout the season. But I guess some people will buy it as a souvenir, or to have signed at the shows this summer.

I’m also one of those who is disappointed that Kris song is “She Works Hard For The Money”. The live performance was amazing – the acoustic feel to it, the slightly latin flavour, etc… It was great. The studio recording sucks all the novelty of the rearrangement out of it with cheesy strings and an old fashion feel to the song. Definitely not the studio version I would have put on this cd. Heartless, Falling Slowly and Ain’t No Sunshine would all have been better choices.

As a Kris fan I think I see something knollish in everything surrounding AI, but putting the one song that Kris said he didn’t like on the album? Real nice.

I’d like to think it was the awesome live version, or that they’ve reworked it, but doubtful. Kris said he wasn’t ~completely happy with the studio version of Falling Slowly, but I think that was just the perfectionist in him speaking. By the sounds of it he wasn’t happy at all with what was done to SWHFTM.

Not surprised Adam gets two songs as well. They clearly see him as the co-winner when it suits them.

I think it was silly to put both Kris and Adam’s versions of NB on the same album when a lot of the fans of both already own one if not both versions. I agree that it would have been better to have replaced “She Works Hard For The Money” with “Heartless” or “Falling Slowly”.

Actually, I would say exactly the opposite. A lot of times, people will play only the first however-many songs on an album and then go off to something else — and Kris being first means he gets heard every time those people play the album.

And I think that’s supported by the overall track order — the first 5 tracks are by the top 5 finishers, and the bottom 5 are grouped in the later tracks. You might say that Kris’ second track, at #6, might be intended as the final track before the “partial-album listeners” will quit and switch to another album.

I bought these the first couple of years and then I wised up and stopped wasting my money.

I remember analyzing where they put Clay and Ruben on the cd cover, lol. Those were the days. I can’t get worked up about Adam and Kris, thank goodness. (But if it was David Cook, okay, I might get defensive about his placement.)

Well John, that is certainly one way to see it! The eternal positive in me should have seen it that way, too. I’m just bit tired and a tad irritated that Kris can never seem to get the recognition he deserves as far as AI/19E/TPTB is concern. I really should get over it – it’s not worth worrying about it, since it’s out of my hands…
