63rd Annual Primetime Emmy – Winners List – Live Blog!

The 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are tonight on FOX at 8/5p, and I’ll be liveblogging the fun right here. Most of the awards, including nearly all the the tech awards, were handed out last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys.  Glee’s Jane Lynch is hosting.

If you want to know who won for Best Reality Show Host, Acting Guest Stars in all categories and more Click This Link.

Tonight, 25 major categories will be awarded. The Gold Derby blog posted a presentation order, which I’ve posted below and will fill in as the evening progresses.

Other than Jane Lynch, maybe, I don’t expect any of our nominees to win tonight.  But I do expect stars from Glee, The X Factor, So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol to appear during the telecast, so watch out for that!

Live blog begins below.

Click for photos and videos.

  • Leonard Nimoy is the “President of Television” who host Jane Lynch her Emmy orders.  She sings  “TV is a Vast Wonderland”. Tons of cameos coming ahead. Including the casts of “Mad Men”, “The Big Bang Theory”, Randy Jackson! “Friday Night Lights”,   Jane Lynch slushies Sue Sylvester! HA.  Last year’s Glee opening with Jimmy Fallon was epic and funnier.
  • Jane’s monologue – She namechecks a few stars in the audience, and then introduces Zacahary Levi, Cobie Smulders, Taraji P. Henson, Kate Flannery, Wilmer Valderrama, and Joel McHale as a glee-like group of singers called the “Emmytones” ….and so far this is not very funny.
  • Next, a montage of Emmy nominated comedy shows
  • Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel take the stage.  Finally some laughs as they insist both will lose the category they are nominated in to Jon Stewart. Jimmy K. wrestles Jimmy F. to the ground for his emmy speech.  Jimmy K. reads it out loud. HA.  They present Supporting Comedy Actress to Julie Bowen. Wow. Modern Family is going to CLEAN UP TONIGHT!  Sofia Vegara was robbed.
  • Julianna Margulies is next. She calls herself the “funniest woman on television.” Cute. She presents Supporting Comedy Actor to Ty Burrell, who was the front runner, so no surprise there. Ty dedicates the award to his late father who passed away before he became a working actor. His speech is  funny and touching. The Modern Family men are all fantastic actors but…I think Chris Colfer is the best actor of all the nominees. There. I said it.  He’s only 21. His time will come.
  • Jane Lynch: “On the Red Carpet I said there were no winners or losers.  There are losers. I am one. And it hurts. It doesn’t feel good. And If I didn’t have to host the rest of the show I’d be home by now eating a tub of turkey meatballs in the dark. ” – Jane Lynch
  • Ricky Gervais appears via satellite “not allowed to be there in person because of the Golden Globes. I’m not even allowed in the country!  Hilarious editing. “I am an idiot”.
  • Outstanding directing for a comedy series goes to Michael Allen Spiller, Modern Family
  • Zooey Deschenal and Will Arnett present Best Comedy Writers. Zooey looks so pretty! Steve Levitan and Jeffery Richman – Modern Family are the winners.   They thank the whole writing staff, by name. Nice.
  • Welcome to the Modern Family awards  says Jane!
  • Charlie Sheen is next. Do. Not Want.  “To the cast of two and a half men I wish you nothing but the best”. Hm. The meds must finally be working.  He presents Best Actor Comedy to Jim Parsons, Big Bang Theory. Oh. Steve Carell was the front runner.  I can’t believe he’s been scorned again.
  • Sophia Vargara and Rob Lowe present Best Comedy Actress. Sophia says she never understood Lucille Ball’s accent. The comedy actresses are all taking the stage when their names are announced.  This is a very funny bit.  All the nominees should have been made to stand on stage holding hands! the Emmy goes to Melissa McCarthy from Mike and Molly.  LOL at the tiara and roses!  This is kind of an upset, no? The fat girl wins!
  • Office-centric bit featuring stars from other TV shows. Great cameos. Ashton Kutcher “I was wondering where the half man was!”
  • Reality/Variety is  next!  Jane in a pretty new dress.
  • Jane says she has a gay agenda for the show. Gay stereotypes for the win! So far, Jane isn’t as Har Har hilarious as I was expecting. Is her wit too dry and subtle for the setting?
  • David Spade and Kaley Cuoco present Best Reality Show! And it goes to…Amazing Race. YAWN. Seriously?  Idol should have won, if only for the heroic way the show managed to overcome losing Simon Cowell.
  • Variety Series Writing.  The writers’ montages are always a highlight. Too bad they were cut to 15 seconds this year.  SNL – all the writers are pictured as Justin Timberlake. PUPPIES! John Stewart wins (I stan for him HARD).
  • Jane introduces Andy Samberg and the Lonely Island men who sing a medley of their SNL hits, featuring Micheal Bolton.  Nice that Bolton doesn’t mind being the butt of the joke.  Oh look. It’s Akon. Random. Ed Helms, Maya Rudolph (playing the Lady Gaga bit in 3 way) and John Stamos (even more random) also appear.
  • Lea Michele and Ian Somerhalder present Variety Directing. Idol is in this category, and they lose to Don Roy King, Saturday Night Live
  • Variety, Music or Comedy Series goes to The Daily Show – Shot of Jimmy Fallon‘s fake bitch face is awesome. HA!
  • Drama montage commences.
  • Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher “I am that guy from Pretty in Pink…I’m that guy who is not Charlie Sheen” Ha.  They present Drama Writing to Jason Katims for Friday Night Lights.  A show that was under-appreciated during it’s entire run…gets its due after it leaves the air.
  • Drama supporting actress goes to…Margo Martindale for Justified.  She was interviewed on Fresh Air recently. She’s got a long, impressive resume of great character roles.
  • Paul McCrane and Loretta Devine present Best Drama Directing to   Martin Scorsese for Boardwalk Empire. It’s Marty’s first Emmy!
  • Kerrie Washington and Jason O’Mara present Drama Supporting actor to the little guy,   Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones.  He’s kind of hot! He thanks his dog sitter back in New York.  I might be in love.
  • Anderson Cooper! I want to hear him giggle like a 12 year old girl! Unfortunately, he introduces a  lame Jersey Shore skit. Please. Go. Away. Oh Jane. There you go slumming.
  • Bryan Cranston and Katie Holmes present Best Drama actress. Katie is so wooden. Have the Scientologists stolen her soul? Creepy.  Julianna Margulies wins for The Good Wife.
  • Minka Kelly,   Annie Ilonzeh, Rachael Taylor and Drew Barrymore take the stage. Drew says she’s passing the torch to the new cast of Charlie’s Angels. Oh. Something to be proud of. The present Best Drama Actor to Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights.  All four scream his name so it’s unintelligible.  Kelly Clarkson is flailing! Heh.
  • LL. Cool J sings with the fake Glee kids to introduce Movies and Miniseries. This fake Glee bit is NOT working.
  • Jane Lynch:  “People ask me why I’m a lesbian. Ladies and Gentleman, the Cast of Entourage.”  Ha! Miniseries writing goes to Julian Fellows, Downton Abbey.
  • Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries Movie  goes to Maggie Smith, Downton Abbey.
  • Jane Lynch and Paula Abdul, in costume as accountants,   introduce the Ernst and Young accountants! Jane “Me an accountant? I can barely balance my checkbook” Paula – “I can barely balance!”
  • Melissa McCarthy and Amy Pohler tell the guys they need to show a little more skin! Lead Actor in a mini-series movie goes to Bobby Pepper, The Kennedys
  • Outstanding Directing goes to Brian Percival, Downton Abbey
  • In Memoriam.  The Canadian Tenors sing “Hallelujah”.  Was anyone left out of the montage?
  • Mini-Series Supporting Actor goes to Guy Pearce for Mildred Pierce.  He makes sure to mention the many many times he had sex with Kate Winslet. I don’t blame him for bragging. I’d do her.
  • Hugh Laurie and Clair Danes present Best Miniseries Movie Actress to Kate Winslet for Mildred Pierce. She dedicates her award to her mum.
  • Don Cheadle presents Best Miniseries Movie to Downton Abbey
  • Maria Bello and William H. Macey presents Best Drama Series to Mad Men. Not shut out after all! Thought Boardwalk Empire or Friday Night Lights would take it.
  • Gwyneth Paltrow presents Best Comedy to Modern Family. No surprise there.  The producer thanks the kids. No really, the young actors on the show.  MF has made the world more tolerant of…an older man marrying a hot young woman.
  • And we’re done, right on time.
  • Quick assessment. I was expecting more from Jane. There were some good jokes, but there were no GREAT jokes.  Next year, bring back Jimmy Fallon. Or better yet…Ricky Gervais (as if).

According to Deadline, Alex Baldwin pulled his bit out of the telecast after a joke about Newscorp and the hacking scandal was pulled. Leonard Nimoy will take his place.
