Catch a Glimpse of the Season 8 Audition Room – VIDEO

Here’s a little glimpse of the new audition room backdrop for the  upcoming season of American Idol, featuring Season 7 winner, David Cook.   Ohh, David is right next to golden girl Carrie Underwood–Cook must be on TPTB’s good side.   For now.

More Season 8 stuff:   In this interview with Extra, Simon Cowell says that new Judge Kara DioGuardi never lets him get a word in edgewise. He says, “She never shuts up.” Simon says Kara and  Paula Abdul are getting along fine–considering that “girls in general don’t like working with other girls.” Hm.

In case you were wondering, the seating order at the judges table will go: Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell.   During the audition rounds, Simon Cowell will serve as  tie breaker as he did during Seasons 4 and 6 when audition episodes featured guest judges.

ETA: I found a video that pans the entire back drop of the Season 8 audition room. I’ve posted it after the jump. Here’s the order of the Idols on the backdrop: From the far left–Taylor Hicks, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Jordin Sparks, The Idol Logo, David Cook, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia Barrino. Taylor Hicks, Idol’s red-headed step-child, has the tiniest picture on the far left, while Jordin, David and Carrie have prime positions. Kelly’s last record My December bombed, so she’s relegated off to the corner next to Taylor. Heh.

    I just wish that the DC pic could be one that featured his little half-cocked smile and smoldering glance at the camera. :wub_tb: But then again, I guess TPTB want their audience paying attention to the new cast members not the old!

    Heh. I saw it a video with the whole thing. He’s on the far, far, far, right (practically in the next room). From right to left: Taylor, Kelly, Ruben, Jordin,[AI LOGO] David, Carrie, Fantasia.

    Thanks, cheese, for typing out the order. I’m a little surprised Kelly and Ruben aren’t switched. Other than the 2-males-in-a-row reason, of course.

    ETA: I just checked out the video. Not only is Taylor’s face so far to the left that it’s “practically in the next room” it’s also basically ONE EIGHTH the size of Jordin’s head! (to see this, pause the video at 0:11.)

    to me, it seems like his head shot would be most fitting.
    they should at least give him the opposite end that Taylor is on, seeing that his pice is the size of a thumbnail compared to the other 5 winners. but unfortunately, of the 6 winners (assuming DC will have very prominent career ahead of him), Taylor does have the weakest post-idol career; so it not totally unjustified IMO.

    Looking at the video it looks like David and Jordin are technically in the same position, next to the AI logo. The lame thing about the way Taylor is positioned is that he’s tacked all the way on where the banner scrolls so he’s almost like heading out the door LOL Fantasia is on the end too but she’s still more prominent.

    hahahahaha. someone should make me a giant fat-head of archie so i could plaster it right over the american idol logo next year..and yes, i totally would.

    and i don’t think i am gunna dig this new judge so far. her personality isn’t clicking with me in all the interviews i have seen her in so far. but ill still give her a chance since she is on my fav show. :-)

    Like Simon, the auditions are my least favorite part of the show but seeing DC’s face up there in the bg is going to make them a whole lot easier to watch. :wink_wp:

    Damn…poor Taylor. Every other winner’s picture is bigger than his, and his is tucked all the way in the corner. Oh well. I’m sure TPTB would have left him off the backdrop completely if they could get away with it, so making his pic the size of a peanut compared to the other winners is the next best thing in their eyes.

    They basically got rid of him in the show opening last year. It will be fun to see if anyone performs songs that Cook or Archie did during the show in the audtion rounds.

    I prefer to look on the bright side. Hopefully, all the auditioners will enter and exit from the left as in past years. At least Taylor will get more drive by screen time this year.

    I typically don’t watch the auditions. (First time I did, there was a woman on who was clearly mentally disturbed, and it bothered me that they put her on.) But between the new judge and the Cookie context, they might just pull me in. Dammit.

    ITA– It’s nice to see DC up there, and of course he looks handsome and everything, but he kind of looks like he’s about to blink or something. I guess they want the photos of each Idol to be mid-sing, and the DC money note you-know-what face isn’t that appropriate for this purpose, haha.

    The “heads” are all relatively the same size until you pass Jordin, then from Ruben to Kelly to Taylor, they get progressively smaller. What’s odd about that is that 19E dropped Fantasia, so I’m surprised that she gets the full-sized head treatment also.

    Eh, well in the scale of successful winners, she’s probably right behind Carrie and Kelly so I guess it makes sense. You could argue Jordin beats her but they have the most recent winners (Jordin & David) surrounding the logo.

    If Any 2nd place finisher belongs on the banner it’s Clay. Maybe if Archie is around for 5 or 6 years then maybe he seserves to be there.

    What the hell. I think they should just put velcro on the back of all the Top 10 pictures from each year. Then they could change ‘em out on a whim to reflect whose currently making money for them and keeping the AI brand name relevant.

    Did you notice it’s Carrie’s and Fantasia’s faces on the backdrop behind the judges? They’re going to get a lot of face time back there, every time the camera pans around to see what Simon thinks or whether he’s making moose ears or throwing his pencil.

    The X-factor top 12 was leaked a few days ago when it wasnt supposed to be announced for a week or 2. Apparently Simon got super pissed (even more so because people were saying that one of his fav female contestants leaked the info)- so im sure that will be even more incentive to keep the AI8 on super-lockdown…but i have confidence in our spoilers!!!
