The show was a mess last year, hope it’s better this year.

I’m also hoping Scotty and Lauren get chances to perform at this. As the most recent top 2 on AI and this being on Fox, I think they’ve got a good chance to.

The awards themselves are just an excuse to have a bunch of country acts on a show and have that competition element to get fans involved and watching.

  • everything

No nod for Lauren Alaina? I don’t think Scotty will win. The Band Perry is hugely popular, more so now with their cross over hit.

  • chearts77

Yay for Scotty!! I placed all my votes today. Keeping fingers crossed for ZBB. If they don’t get an award this year (whether this awards show or another), I’m gonna throw something.

It was a mess last year. I’m sure they’ve learned and tweaked some things to make it flow better. I hope. I like how they seperated Breakthrough and New Artists. I don’t think they did that last year.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Another fan-voted award show? lol Oh well, it’s a good place for performing and promotion for the nominees.

  • eyelinerandcigarettes

Yay for Scotty. I voted for him but I don’t think he’ll win. I think The Band Perry will.

    Good enough he’s nominated though.

  • Tess

I can’t even express how much I hate fan voted awards shows….the only thing they prove is that voting peeps are swayed by everything but real talent. I think I’ll stick with watching the CMAs, thank you very much.

  • CindyM

This is the show Danny Gokey was nominated in last year, right?

  • Oksana2000

Is this show a country equivalent of AMA’s ? With all these shows I’m losing track of what is what.

  • Pam

I don’t really like the idea of this fan generated voting for these shows either. I’ll be genuinely surprised if Scotty wins. I would rather see Lauren and Scotty get performances slots as well.

  • TylerWV

I agree the fan voted awards doesn’t show merit, just fan loyalty and persistence lol. On the other hand, from comments made by artists and label people, the CMAs, etc., award shows are giving the noms and awards to whom the label gets behind and pushes and whom the label thinks needs the award for their career the most. Thats what Miranda Lamberts label said when they pushed her instead of Carrie. So we have the political awards or the fan voted awards, neither based solely on which artists deserves it. I absolutely hate how they keep bringing other genres into the country award shows to perform or present and leave the country artists sitting in the audience.

I agree. I don’t know what’s better – fan voted awards or political awards. It seems like a lot of award shows now needs major backing from a label to have a shot at getting nominated more than talent or good music. I’m not saying Miranda didn’t deserve all the awards. She made a great album. But there was major support from her label & I think her label didn’t back other artists that were nominated as much.

I think even the Grammy’s have become political. There’s no way Katy Perry deserves an album of the year nomination. Does she have multiple hits? Yes. But is it a great album that deserves the nomination. No. Award shows have been like this for a long time. Oscars are very political & studios will only back movies or people they want.

The Band Perry should walk away with the award for New Artist. Is this one of those annoying contests where fans can vote as much as they want? If it is, then I can see Scotty winning, because I would think his fans would be more into voting multiple times than fans of the other nominees would be.

Of course, pretty much all award shows have issues when it comes to who gets nominated or who wins. There is so much politics involved, favors traded, etc etc. So this show probably isn’t really worse than any other when it comes to issues with voting.

I will add that there are WAY too many music award shows these days. When there were only one or two, the awards and nominations just seemed to mean more. But that’s just my opinion. YMMV

The Band Perry isn’t really that new anymore though. They have been around for well over a year. In fact, their first single was released in 2009.

  • LexieN

I do wonder about the definition of “new.” Ah, but it is an honor for Scotty to be nominated–and I hope he and Lauren get to perform–excited for every opportunity for them.

Will vote as soon as I get home from work:)

I didn’t watch last year, usually only watch the CMAs for the many reasons listed above–I feel they are the closest that comes to merit, mostly country instead of pop-infused (CMTs were not good to me and I only watched for Scotty and Lauren and only a little bit at that), and well run. I guess I’ll be watching more awards shows now…

  • Tess

because I would think his fans would be more into voting multiple times than fans of the other nominees would be.

Oh…Idolettes will be forever labeled because of what fans have done over the past 10 years. I don’t think there is any substantial proof that fans of idols are anymore active than fans of other artists…but it’s nice to think that they are.

  • Tess

I think even the Grammy’s have become political.

The Grammys have always been political as far as the “popular” categories that are more about sales and radio play. Deeper down they are more about awarding peeps who do an excellent job.

There’s a lot of proof, Rate The Music surveys, radio station online polls, labels having to have their artists tweet to fans to calm down and not spam the twitter accounts of radio stations, or be abusive when they request a song.

that being said, there are other overly enthusiastic fan groups. Like the Rihanna Navy, the Beliebers, Taylor Swift also has some hardcore online voting fans, and more. MTV’s O Awards is all about these groups.

No, it’s like the GAC Video countdown…you can vote once a day. This one makes you register too. I personally, am not a fan of TBP, but can see them winning. I think, though, that since they were nominated for Best Group/Duo, they should not have been nominated for New Artist. There are plenty of new artists to choose from. That’s just my opinion.

And, yes, many award shows have become political. If it came down between a fan voted or insider political maneuvering, I prefer fan voted. I’m not one that likes labels pushing talent down my throat. I’ll pick who I like, thank you.

  • Eileen99

I, for one, love all the country awards shows. I find them really entertaining & always full of good performances. I can’t always say that about Pop-leaning awards shows.
