2012 CMA Awards Nominations: Live Blog!

We’re live blogging the 2012 CMA Awards nominations straight from the press room in New York City! Come on in and see how Idol and The Voice represent!

The CMA Awards are often referred to as country music’s Oscars, and they’re typically the highest rated country show on TV (in some years, their ratings have challenged Grammy ratings!). So, the awards can provide not only valued recognition by the industry but also an important platform for promotion just before holiday shopping kicks in. Nominations mean not only recognition, but the possibility of snagging a performance slot (which can mean even more).

So who can we expect to see mentioned among the nominees this morning? Nominations announcers Jason Aldean and Lady Antebellum can expect to hear their names quite a bit, and are 2 frontrunners to be nominated for Entertainer Of The Year. Also look for Jason to be nominated for Male Vocalist Of The Year, while he may land a single in the Song or Single Of The Year categories. Lady A’s Own The Night has already won the Grammy for Best Country Album despite a very mediocre critical reception, so they are likely to appear in the Album Of The Year and Vocal Group Of The Year categories.

Voice coach Blake Shelton is the 2-time reigning Male Vocalist Of The Year, and his team snagged a LOLzy Album Of The Year nomination for him last year for a 6 song EP. If his team is still that powerful this year, he may land in the Album Of The Year category for Red River Blue, which answered mediocre reviews with 4 #1 country hits, as well as Entertainer Of The Year. The CMAs may also be unable to resist the chance to nominate Blake and his wife, 2-time reigning Female Vocalist Of The Year Miranda Lambert in the Song Of The Year category for their co-penned “Over You” ( a song about the tragic death of Blake’s brother), a #1 hit for Miranda. Speaking of Miranda, she’ll be in the running for Female Vocalist Of The Year, and has a strong chance of landing in the Album Of The Year category too, while also competing for Entertainer Of The Year.

Look for Eric Church and Luke Bryan to figure into the nominations in a big way, especially Eric for his critically acclaimed, platinum selling album Chief.

Among the Idols, look for Carrie Underwood to score her 7th consecutive nomination for Female Vocalist Of The Year, while her album Blown Away has a chance of becoming her 3rd album to compete for CMA Album Of The Year. Carrie could also be nominated in the Vocal Event Of The Year category for her duet with Brad Paisley, “Remind Me,” which peaked during the CMA eligibility year of July 1 2011 through June 30 2012. Meanwhile Scotty McCreery’s platinum-plus sales make him a frontrunner for a New Artist Of The Year nomination, where we will also likely see Brantley Gilbert and Hunter Hayes, and possibly buzzy new acts from 2012 like Kip Moore and Jana Kramer.

The 46th Annual CMA Awards air on Thursday, November 1st at 8 PM Eastern on ABC. They will be cohosted for the 5th consecutive year by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. Will you be tuning in?
